So far, we've found four different spellings in public documents for the name of the suspect in the serial stabbings. Most news outlets — including msnbc.com — are going with Elias Abuelazam because that's how it's spelled in the arrest warrant.
Michigan records list his name as Elian Abuelazam, but the Flint Journal reports that he changed it to Elias Abullazam in 1995. An expired Michigan drivers license, however, makes it Elias Abu Elazam.
We're going to follow current official documents until something clearer emerges. For now, he's Elias Abuelazam.

Doing searches, I've also seen it spelled Abuelezam and have found that name associated with Arab congregations of Orthodox Christians in Israel.
what's in a name he's a killer. Why is it too hard to belive that he's Israeli jew and not a Muslim?
Not all Israeli Arabs are violent or are terrorists, first of all. However, that being said, this guy happens to be an Israeli Arab, not a Jew. What is more important than any of this is that he was a racist monster, and killed several innocent African-American people.
Here's a motive: After living in this country for a long time you realize some people can't live without racism. It's like a security blanket. Things don't go their way, they go to their racism to make themselves feel better, cause as much hurt as possible, etc.. People from other countries and more importantly our enemies think this is funny. They also see this as a big weakness. Right now tension is already high (politics, economy, etc.). What a perfect way to stage another attack. Get the whole country distracted with racial tension and then go for it! We would never see it coming because we would be too busy bickering. Wake up people it's 2010! I know good and bad people of all colors. It's been my life study. United we stand, divided we are a sitting duck! Mark my words!!!!!!!
If his name originally had "Abu" in it, that's not Jewish; like Abu Nidal, e.g.
