Obama: 'We're all in this thing together'

Huddled under two umbrellas outside in the rain, President Obama and Brian Williams are talking about the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

Obama says Katrina made it clear that "the real protection for New Orleans and the coast are the wetlands." The oil spill — and Obama says he's convinced there's still a lot of oil out there in the gulf — is a new "opportunity for us to take a look comprehensively and ask how do we do things better and how do we do things smarter than we've done before."

Rejecting critics' characterization of the oil spill as "Obama's Katrina," the president says flatly, "That is not accurate."

"We've got to put all that stuff aside and come in and make sure we get the job," he says.

JAC, you may not think we're not in this together, but we are. If the US suffers, most of us will suffer too. If Obama is eating Caviar and Lobster and others Beans and Weinies, this isn't his fault. He worked hard to get where he is today and to eat as he choses. Should he feel guilty for this and others' shortcomings?

Well said, JAC... Many people have worked hard and do not get 6 vacations in ONE YEAR like he has had.

I am working 6 to 7 days a week and will not get ONE vacation this year. HE is in this for HIMSELF!

AKRandy,

Well said. Many people have worked hard and do not get 6 vacation in ONE YEAR like he has had.

How many vacations did Bush take while he was in office? He spent 27%, over 500 days, on vacation while in office. Every time I looked around, the man was in Texas. He exceeded Reagan's record by at least one-third. Thus far, President Obama has taken the least amount of days for vacations out of all Presidents and he inherited the most problems seem like. I don't believe he accumulated 50 days yet. I much rather he take a vacation here and there, because we need a relaxed President.

I am working 6 to 7 days a week and will not get ONE vacation this year. HE is in this for HIMSELF!

That's not Obama's fault you're not going to get a vacation and have to work 6 or 7 days a week. Speak to your boss or someone in your HR department. Better yet, find another job if you can. Otherwise, don't complaint for having a job when many do not and would love to work.

Your username sure is a FAR cry from what you really stand for...

You're mischaracetrization bush 'vacations' - most of that time was spent in the 'second white house' as it came to be known where Bush was still at work with most of his staff, not golfing and spending our money at expensive restuarants.

However, you miss the point - this is NOT about Bush vs Obama. This is about socialistic politicians vs true Americans. This is about those who want to destroy the constitution vs those who respect it. It doesn't matter if it is the Republicans or the Dems or whoever - the point is that RIGHT NOW Obama is pulling off a huge scam on the American people and not only abusing his powers, but is downright insulting us all by living an extravagant lifestyle while we work 20hour+ days to make a living.

He got elected by claiming he was anti-establishment and would 'change' things, when instead he has magnified and escalated the same problems he was elected to fix.

AnnForTruth01,

I think you are missing the point. There are countless people that have worked hard for what they have. The liberal position is to take what they have and give it to those who don't. Steel from the rich and give to the poor. They have more than enough and can do without. Yet Obama is immune to this because as President, his lifestyle is being subsidized by the American people.

SleepzZ,

Personally that's how some of the rich folks became rich...off the hard work of the poor and helpless. Not every rich individual is rich because they worked hard themselves. As far as Obama being subsidized by the American, who were the other Presidents subsidized by or does your criticism apply to only President Obama? Let's have some fair criticism here.

On the third anniversary of Katrina, we can look back on a city and region whose citizens have bravely cleaned up and rebuilt. Today is a day to celebrate their resilience and pledge to help them finish the job. It is also a day to remember the disastrously inadequate response from the federal government and pledge that never again will we let bureaucratic incompetence leave disaster victims stranded and alone.

SENATOR Obama

Glad he didn't have to re-write his speech................

Thank you for getting this country on the road to recovery, and ending a useless war, and passing health care legislation, lowering taxes, etc. You have truly saved our country and we will re-elect you by a landslide! What a pity...glad that most of America has awoken from the lieberal coma and IS together with our desire to get rid of B.O. and his evil minions....Everything listed above has HUGE costs...many that these people do not have the desire to grasp. Sometimes it seems that if a huge boulder was in the path of a liberal they would just deny that it is there.

The only way to change history is to repeat a lie until it is accepted as truth. Exactly what you are doing. Bush tried to stop the housing meltdown, but his efforts were shot down every time by Barny Frank and beans and congress. Barny said everything is fine, don't worry. Oduma voted for that deficit that he inherited and then voted to expand it four-fold. He voted for it before he was against. Also, his stimulus cost 15% more than the entire Iraq war.

    Mmm mmm mmm.

Obama was left behind a country in disaster. He has removed us from the war in Iraq, he continues to fight against job loss. He is not perfect, but he is learning to work with his team to improve our situation in this country, despite the hatred being spewed from every direction. There are still many of us that support him.

He vacations in Martha's Vineyard while the rest of America swelters in a heat wave and the economy goes to hell in a handbasket. He is so divorced from the rest of us that he doesn't know what a po boy is. Obama is the worst president in our history. If he is elected to a second term, this country is surely doomed. How can anyone support this moron any longer? Only those with an ideology for a welfare state can be in his corner. America must wake up or there is absolutely no hope.

How useless is Obama's words, if individuals like you took time out of their important day to read or listen to them and then post ridiculous remarks on the Vine afterward? It could not have been that useless. If I don't particular care for what someone or a group represents (like Palin, Sean Hannity, OReilly, the Tea Party, etc.), I wouldn't waste my time listening to them or commenting on their useless words.

There is only one messiah in American Politics. At least that is what his supporters claimed. Great job he is doing so far huh?

On the other hand Sarah Palin and Glen Beck see themselves as part of something bigger. They are not solutions in and of themselves. The seas won't start to lower themselves and the planet won't start to heal just because they have influence. Jobs won't spring out of nowhere and those parts of the world that hate us won't stop just because they are alive and speaking. No they and people like them have something called humility. Humility in knowing that they are part of the great American Experiment where ordinary people do extraordinary things. Contrast that with the pathetic piece of socialist excrement we have in office right now. Contrast that with the outlook of the self appointed American ruling elite. Neither Beck or Palin will be the nominee in 2012. Regardless your cultlike devotion to the Alinskyite in Chief won't be enough anymore. You are he are going to get crushed in 2010 and 2012. Eat it.

Was that humility that made Palin call on the president's lack of "cojones" to enforce the border protection laws? What is it that that has given persmission to so many people to talk down to our president and speak to him and about him as if they didn't owe him any RESPECT? It wouldn't...couldn't be because he is...black? No, all of you are too "model citizens" for that...it must be something else. I tell you this LLH, this ordinary citizen will do great things, it's only been 20 months and the best is yet to come. Just watch.

                            #15.2 - Sun Aug 29, 2010 6:23 PM EDT

What is it about the left that makes them grab for the race baiting card so quickly? No one speaks down either to or about the president because he's black. I'll tell you what the reason is, and it goes back barely 20 months. People didn't talk down to or about W. because he was white, but because he is republican. And they (read MSM and partisan hacks who called him "the worst president in the history of the US") talked down constantly. People (the other side from MSM and dem partisan hacks) talk down to and about O because he is a democrat.

If you want to defend your precious, come up with a counter argument that meets the logic head on and shelve the ad hominem attacks. Until then, you are nothing more than an ignorant partisan hack too ignorant of what is going on around you.

I didn't like it either when Bush was vilified by the public, the man deserves respect. Disagree? Hell yea, but keep the respect. After all, speaking in such terms about our leadership is like spitting into the wind. You think we are the only ones reading this? I think he is an intelligent President who really has tried to pull us out of the deepest economic whole we have seen in our lives (And that is what he inherited taking office). The only thing he did that I think is wrong, is to try to reach across the table to the Republicans. It was a waste of time because they do not seem to even want to try to listen. So Obama ignoring Glen Beck? That is a step in the right direction!

                                      Obama 2012: Hilarious!

If Obama was reaching across the table, then he sure as heII has very, very short arms. Remember his comment to the republicans, when they tried to work with Obama? He said "we won!". So much for cooperation.

Corsair and LLH, get used to it...the Reps aren't getting the White House in 2012...and they aren't getting majorities in congress in 2010 either...no matter how you'd like to rewrite history, all these problems were inherited from the Bush administration, Bush spent more money in "stimulus" than any other president in history...Clinton handed over a huge surplus and a balanced budget and Bush threw both away in months...a war we didn't need in Irak, another trillion dollars plus, a war that's still going in Afghanistan...what's the matter with you people?

Alfredo...who was controlling the congress from 2006 onwards? Who has failed to pass a single balanced budget since being in power?

Let's end with the Bush vs Obama for a bit, k? how about we evaluate the core ideologies and policies of these people?

Is more tax, more welfare, more government control, more government employees going to be our pick? OR
less tax, more personal responsibility, less govt. control, fewer government employess and more private sector employess our aim?
I don't care if it was Repubs or Dems who the media was fawning over - let's evaluate the actual policies and politicians who bring these policies in, shall we?

Sane, I agree with you...the issues are the main thing. I would love to hear your viewpoints on all the subjects you brought up and then I'll respond to them without any partisanhip, I promise. By the way, am a lifelong Republican that's just tired of how the private sector screwed everyone over with the investment tactics, the real estate bust, etc, etc. How do we bring the private sector to be honorable, trustworthy people? On their own?

Can I tell y'all something? I really don't pay attention to this phony baloney fork-tongued product of academia elite anymore. He's unqualified, tentative, back=stabbing and quite frankly, repulsive in virtually all that he says. Other than that...no, he may not be that nice either. He's cold, hollow.

Actually, Michelle prefers Lobster while Barack would rather eat a $15.00 hamburger with Mustard.
