Evangelist Billy Graham hospitalized

Evangelist Billy Graham has been admitted to a North Carolina hospital for evaluation and treatment of possible pneumonia. NBC's Brian Williams reports.

Evangelist Billy Graham has been admitted to a North Carolina hospital for evaluation and treatment of possible pneumonia. The 93-year-old preacher was last hospitalized in May for five days with pneumonia.

Graham served as an adviser to presidents and toured the world for his famous crusades. He now spends much of his time at home near Asheville and occasionally meets with Christian leaders and old friends.

 Here is the statement from the evangelist's organization:

Asheville, NC, November 30, 2011  -- Evangelist Billy Graham has been hospitalized at Mission Hospital in Asheville, N.C., near his home in Montreat, for evaluation and treatment of his lungs. Upon admittance, he was alert, smiling and waving at hospital staff.

Mr. Graham's personal physician, Lucian Rice, MD, said that Mr. Graham's condition is stable. The pulmonologist treating Mr. Graham, Mark Hellreich, M.D., said that Mr. Graham is being tested for possible pneumonia.

 Mr. Graham was previously hospitalized for successful treatment of pneumonia in May, 2011. He resumed his ongoing program of physical therapy and normal activity shortly after release, according to his staff. This included finalizing his most recent book, "Nearing Home," published last month, and beginning work on a new project reaffirming the evangelistic message he has preached for more than 60 years.

While no date has been set for discharge, Mr. Graham is looking forward to returning home to spend the upcoming Christmas holidays with his family.

HUH? WHAT?? Exactly! HUH? WHAT?? You have no idea what you are talking about. He never took millions from anyone. He has given far more than you will ever be able to imagine. Please don't spread your lies about a man that did nothing but serve this world in the name of our Creator. It will be a very sad day when he is gone from this earth but what a joy for him to be able to be with his Saviour whom he has served with unwavering faith and commitment.

I sent him some money almost 50 years ago. It was the best money I ever spent and I wish I could have given more so he could have given to more people what he gave to me which is beyond price.

Why are we morning the eminent passing of a cult leader?

I have no doubt his son shall put his corpse up for public viewing at a price in some religious theme park.

Just as he and his son did to his mother.

Good Riddance.

I think you mean "imminent",, not "eminent". And "mourning", not "morning".

Perhaps it is you who should be consulting a dictionary.

    Soon enough he will find out God doesn't really hate gay people and boy will he have some explaining to do!!

    He NEVER said that God hates gay people. You are the one that is a liar. God hates sin...period. He does not hate people. He would not have sent his only son to die on a cross to save the world from sin if he hated us. "For God so loved the world..."

    Amazing, isn't it? How many enlightened do not know the difference in hating sin and hating sinner. Guess that is why they still walk in darkness - too arrogant to listen and learn.

    I've lost my faith in the afterlife, but he's the ONLY famous Christian Evangelist who hasn't embarrassed himself by getting a prostitute, marrying 12 year old brides, or had an eye for litttle boys.

    Whether his beliefs are true or not, he lived it with complete perfection.

    I am very sad for you, it sounds like you have a very hate filled heart. There is a heaven and a hell and it is your choice which one you choose but you have to choose the ONE that made the way to heaven possible. Please read a Bible so you can meet Him or talk to someone that knows Him before it's too late since we never know when our time is up on this earth. I hope the best for you in this journey of finding the Saviour.

    Rev. Graham,

    I am praying for your complete recovery and that you will be home in time for Christmas with your family. I first became aware of you when I was a little girl and I would sit with my Daddy and watch you on our black and white TV set. Even as a child, I was drawn to you and knew that your message was filled with truth and love as you spoke God's love into my life. I always hoped for an opportunity to tell you that. I am currently reading your new book, "Nearing Home" and finding that I am coming to an age where I can relate to much of what you wrote in that book. It is my prayer that God will be with you and keep you safe in the palm of his hand, Billy.

      Just cracks me up all the "haters" on here. You all should just go back to the miserable, wretched existence's you seem to enjoy. If you spent 1/10 the amount of time doing something worthwhile for others that you spend whining and sniveling on this forum, the world would certainly be a much better place. I submit that Dr. Graham and his organization has fed, clothed and offered aid and comfort a million times more than any of you have. So go ahead and sit back and complain. After all, the new mindset is "words speak louder than actions" instead of the other way around. Good grief! What a bunch of babies!

      what good is feeding and clothing millions while you're misleading billions?

      Also, if your family has been bilked out of thousands of dollars by "holy men", you'd might feel the same way I do...

      #56.2 - Wed Nov 30, 2011 5:33 PM EST

      @doyourhomework your family was bilked out of thousands of dollars? 1st, Was it your money or your folks, or grandparents, or relatives. 2nd Did they achieve a sense of peace from whatever cause they chose to donate to, WITH THEIR MONEY, 3rd, are you sitting in one of the OWS groups right now, complaining because someone spent their money the way they wanted to, and it left you having to earn your own money, your own property, and your own way of living, 4th, If it was your money that you donated to "holy men" Then I guess your name is rather redundant.

      This man, Mr. Graham, Is not perfect. I'm sure that his deeds, his works, and his words were certainly of a greater integrity and value to the people that it touched. On the grand scale of life, Im sure that, Mr. Graham, is probably in the 1% of the 1% who gave 99%. A rare man indeed, wishing blessings upon he and his family, whether its time, or not time, It's all up to GOD.

      @joel r kraswell

      Well if he "picked the pockets" of his "sheep", then by all means he should be prosecuted. I doubt any of the "donors" were forced at gunpoint or under any other means of duress to open their checkbooks or wallets. Hope you feel the same way about the Lottery Officials in your state as they "pick the pockets" of the "poor sheep" at a far greater scale than any of these religious organizations are alleged to do under the guise of state sanctioned "salvation from poverty"!

      @doyourhomework, America

      Lumping Dr. Graham in with whatever shyster took the alleged money from your family/relative is as sane a comment as concluding all Doctors are criminals since the LA court system just found Dr. Conrad Murray guilty of malpractice in the Jackson case!

      As for misleading "billions", I think your math is a little off there! If Dr. Grahams organization was taking in funds from "billions" his organization would be the one of the top 20 largest economies in the world. IRS documents are available on line for your review if you so choose to see how much they make and spend on charitable giving. I think you would be surprised. Here's an exercise. Compare the percentage of money that goes back to people from both Dr. Grahams organization and the Federal Government and tell me which one is a better use of money. I make my donations every 3 months as a business owner. And I don't get a choice!
