Megachurch pastor Eddie Long's wife to seek divorce

John Amis / AP

Bishop Eddie Long walks to the pulpit with his wife, Vanessa Long, Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010, at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Atlanta.

The wife of Bishop Eddie Long, the Georgia megachurch pastor once accused of coercing four young men into having sex, has told her lawyers to file for divorce, according to a statement issued Friday.

In the statement, Vanessa Long said she had decided to "terminate my marriage" after "a great deal of deliberation and prayer."

"It is my sincere hope that this matter can be resolved expeditiously, harmoniously, and fairly," she said in the statement.

"I ask that you respect my privacy and that of my family, as my attorneys and I have agreed that we will not try this case in the media, and I do not intend to make any further statements concerning this matter," she added. "I also ask that the public pray for my entire family during this difficult period of transition."

In May this year, Bishop Long settled lawsuits filed by the four men who once attended the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, in suburban Atlanta.

Four sexual misconduct lawsuits against Bishop Eddie Long are expected to be dismissed by the end of Friday. Rev. Irene Monroe talks about the situation.

Days later the congregation cheered Long as he took the pulpit, while the choir opened the service with the hymn "Moving Forward," which began: "I'm not going back, I'm moving ahead. Here to declare to you my past is over."

Opposition to gay marriage
Long gained a reputation as a spiritual leader after turning his 150-member congregation into a following of 25,000 people and a televangelist empire, partly based on the idea that God would give wealth to the faithful.

He has been a vocal opponent of gay marriage.

The allegations by the men were not investigated criminally because Georgia's age of consent is 16. The young men were 17 and 18 when the alleged sexual contact occurred.

After the out-of-court settlement, Jessica Gabel, a Georgia State University law professor who specializes in trial strategy, told The Associated Press, "Nobody wants their dirty laundry aired in court. Every day there would be fanfare. This is not something you want in the media."

Gabel said that attorneys try to keep the terms of any agreement confidential, but added that it was noteworthy that Long was not required to apologize or acknowledge any wrongdoing.

The dismissal of the lawsuits was first reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. It said the men alleged that the bishop used his influence, trips, gifts and jobs to coerce them into sexual relations.

So what else is new in the land of "goobers galore"? Find the right way to do it in the bible? Sit back, relax, and read one of Newt's books? Tune in to "fox and friends"? Watch an episode of the "Survivors"? Become really informed by watching "Morning Joe"? Listen to "tea party" congressmen tell us what "Rick Perry" really meant to say? Damn!, I miss looney tunes. Um, "the state" was not involved. This was a civil suit. It was settled out of court. The settlement did not require any apology or admission by the bishop. He is like many of those who set their spittle flying over "the homosexual agenda." It looks like he is on the down-low.

The past is over but never far behind. I'm sure she is praying that she will get millions in settlement, he is praying that he won't have to pay millions in settlement and the flock is praying for whatever he tells them to pray for - which is usually material wealth. I'll tell God to grant everyone's prayers, for me, well I'm happy with what I have.

I don't feel sorry for this woman. I suspect she has a belief that homosexuality is a sin and against nature, and that homosexuals should do everything in their power to NOT BE GAY - which means, pretending they arent and marrying someone of the opposite sex in order to be as good of a christian as they can be.

Sucks she ended up with the gay guy...but when you a belief like that, well...you're the one who SHOULD end up with the gay person pretending they arent gay.

Should I care more about the fact that he "cheated" on her?

Nope...because christians dont seem to care more about adultery, than they do homosexuality...

Otherwise, a guy like Newt would never stand a chance as a GOP Presidential hopeful.

But there you have it folks...christians would rather have a serial adulterer, a guy who would cheat on his cancer stricken wife...than a out gay person.

You cant make this kind of crazy up...so all we can do is sit back and enjoy the sad spectacle.

beyond disgust...did YOU read the article? It said the state did not bring charges because 16 is the age of consent in Georgia and the boys were 17, 18. The suit was a civil suit brought by the boys against Long (or the church) and did not involve the state. His guilt or innocence was not involved in the resolution but he did pay them off. I vote "Guilty" as sin and I think his wife believes he is guilty also.

This man paid his accusers to say silent. He must have offered them enough money so that they settled out of court. It is a shame because this means that more young men will be abused by this man. It is a shame that money usually wins the truth. This man has plenty of money which is being given to him by members of his congregation. His church is basically a business and they need to protect that business so I bet they pay a great of money to keep these men to stay quiet. I hope some of the money can get them help for what they had to go through.

This man is not gay, he is a predator who likes young boys. It is very different from being gay, gay men usually seek other gay men within they own age bracket. They don't victimize young boys. Shame on his congregation, they continue to support a predator.

Maui2, not sure what you're talking about, sports coaches and spanish teachers.

As for your faith not including Jesus, what faith would that be? And I must point out, that if your faith is in yourself, well, I hope you never let yourself down! j

And as for the lessons of life leading to the conclusion that it's not Jesus, but us, sorry you missed the train. I'd say try to catch the next one, but since you think standing on the platform is the end of the journey, you probably won't catch that one either. The lessons of my life point explicitly to the conclusion that God is, and I am not Him. Also, that Jesus, born of a virgin, died on a cross for the sins of all mankind, and that those who cling to Him and love Him, born again of the Spirit, may escape the coming judgement. This is not by our works of righteousness, but because we have been born again into the family of God, which is a family of faith. How it's designed is that you can identify those who are of the family of faith by their conduct. That's why the devil works so hard against us. he doesn't want you to realize that you have believed a lie.

Maui2, I gotcha. Arghhh...it creates such a train wreck in a person's life. I too am a survivor of a young childhood being used for someone else's pleasure. Unfortunately he committed suicide before it ever came to light what he had done (finally some good judgment on his part?) and also, as a consequence for the wickedness, the family line ends with me, and not by human design.

As for the religion aspect, the truths of God are revealed, and not learned by rote. Yes, we read the Bible, and the Spirit helps us to understand and apply what we read. But that is not the whole of it, not by a long shot.

JS in SD, this is the most intelligent comment I've read here so far on this matter. It's always the militants that have something to hide, though honestly, I doubt the gay community would be accepting of anyone who coerces others into sex. That said, if he's gay, he needs to come out of the closet and be who he is without the dodgy/sick behavior that no one, gay or straight, would approve of. He'll be a happier person, and he will not hurt the next woman that he convinces of his heterosexuality.

Jessica- Its simple the reason you and everyone else gets confused about that is media and gay community spin. the facts are christians are commanded to hate the sin not the sinner. So the way i view it is when someone like this does these things he's accused of or other sins, and he or she askes for forgiveness, christians are to give it. How ever to me that dosn't mean we have to allow that person the same position of stature or power. Sure we have to forgive Sandusky, if he were to ask , but wouldn't it be stupid to put him back at Penn St. football much less let him stay involved with at risk children or any children? But the christian bashers always say aren't you supposed to forgive, but then its just a bunch of sick S.O.B.'S or people that put their beliefs above the innocence of a child. Jessica, I am a former Christian, and while my reasons for abandoning religion are without malice toward those that choose to keep it in their lives, I have to say admit that I am so glad to be far removed from the hypocrisy that emerges each and every day. I know that this does not apply to all religious people, but it seems that the moment anyone is given power and authority, particularly in matters of religion, they let it get to both heads.

But I went on a tangent. I don't believe that the attacks on homosexuality by Christians are really about religion so much as they are bigotry disguised as religion. After all, the same book that condemns homosexuality, also condemns the eating of shellfish, the shaving of beards, and a few other things that no modern Christian gives a toss about. Cherry picking at its most pathetic. And it is stupid because it is just that transparent.

What's worse, is that tools like this guy, who prey upon the young, get lumped in with homosexuals in general and held up as an "example" as to why homosexuality is evil. The fact is, I don't know of a single homosexual that wouldn't want to punch him in the mouth as much as the rest of us do.

@Jessica (#2.5): Obviously I can't answer for the entire Christian community but I can answer for myself. I can forgive a person for adultery because it's an action that is the result of a conscious choice and has its own effect of hurting someone else. I can't forgive a person for being gay because that would be like forgiving a person for having two eyes or a particular skin color or a certain height measurement. Hope that answers your question.

          #2.13 - Fri Dec 2, 2011 2:41 PM EST

Hey Jessica: Here's my opinion; true Christian's don't bother with homosexuality period, a true Christian knows it isn't their place to make judgment (as there's a Higher Power to do so). Pseudo-Christians 'can't forgive' because it's their way of believing that's a way into heaven or forgiveness or something. There's a WHOLE generation of people assuming it is on them to forgive or not to forgive, but a real Christian simply does not judge. Forgiveness was given to us by said Higher Power, both adultery and homosexuality can be forgiven by a Christian; not judged. However, no one actually reads into Christianity they just claim it :p

George, good words on deaf ears. There is an agenda above truth and those who care not for truth serve the agenda. It's not theirs, but they heard it whispered, or read it "somewhere", and it sounded good. They have therefore taken that agenda as truth. But keep on trying to talk reasonably. Those who "have an ear to hear", will indeed "hear".

EvilBeagle: Attacks about homosexuality are caused more by the media( MSNBC) than it is about christians attacking homosexuals on the street. The matter is simply because its good for their business. Why else would MSNBC constantly keep posting this crap if they did not want to start an argument? Truthfully, I'm tired of this news site if this is all they have to offer.

After all, the same book that condemns homosexuality, also condemns the eating of shellfish, the shaving of beards, and a few other things that no modern Christian gives a toss about. Cherry picking at its most pathetic. And it is stupid because it is just that transparent.

The fact that you mention these things; as a former christian, you would have already known the answer to these questions, so I suspect you are lying about being a former christian. Those questions are pretty clear in Acts 10 and Hebrews 10 as well. You are very transparent when you pretend.

And for the record, I don't agree with what Eddie Long did as well. I don't think anyone should be allowed to abuse children.

There is nothing that wars against the truth and well being of a people like willful ignorance. If you are going to make commentary about the Bible, try gaining some understanding of it first. I know it reads like a history book until you get to the geneologies, which can be boring unless you know what to look for. But throwing the whole thing out because you fail to understand the purpose and message of the Bible as well as the age in which we live reveals ignorance based on an agenda. Fact is, the God who inspired Moses to write down the Law of Moses, wherein contains the declaration of death for homosexual acts, the dietary laws, the marital laws, laws of slaves and so on which are NOT part of our culture today...this Law of Moses was "fulfilled" when Jesus died on the cross. That means it is complete. Now we have the age of grace, and God does not deal with us as servants, but as sons and daughters of God, born of the Spirit. There are wolves in sheeps clothing just as Jesus said there would be. His laws are written on hearts of flesh, not on tablets of stone, and by it we know right from wrong. To declare the Bible invalid, or somehow offensive because you have read isolated texts in the Old Testament is ridiculously idiotic. It's on you if you want to wallow in the false. But don't paint us with that brush. And people who make such statements about the Bible want it to be false, or else they would have to take it seriously and realize how utterly lost they really are.

Unhappy, please don't give up! It's by patience and constant reasoning some will understand. Even the scribes, Pharisees and Sadducees heckled Jesus and sought to trip Him up so they could accuse Him, yet were never able to do so. This is why He constantly said, "He who has an ear to hear, let him hear." Many do not have an ear to hear, which has to do with their inner selves that are willing to learn the truth, and seek after what is true.

Ahhhh.......so what you're saying is that at one time it was ethical to murder your disobedient children, stone gays to death, and force women to become the property of their rapists. Equally, it was appropriate for your imaginary friend to slaughter all the innocent first-born of Egypt, including the first-born farm animals.

Sounds like your imaginary friend is rather violent and psychotic, and that you have a disfunctional and immoral belief system.

                Unhappy,

It is no secret that those behind the discrimination against homosexuals couch it in a twisted version of Christianity for the sake of justifying bigotry. While MSNBC and other media outlets are guilty of all sorts of sensationalism, it does not invalidate that simple fact because it is something that plays out in politics, schools, and all spheres of daily life, and it doesn't always make the news. Some of the comments here reflect that with painful clarity.

I wouldn't lie about once being a Christian because if I had my history to rewrite, I would prefer to never been Christian, and I don't normally admit that I ever was outside of faceless forums such as this one. Everyone likes to put their own spin on the Bible to make it fit their world view, and in a set of books so open to interpretation, it has been used to justify the subjugation of women, slavery, war, halt scientific progress, and finally to justify discrimination against the "hated group of the month". Sadly, it's the people that use it to those purposes that get all the attention. When I mention those passages, I mention them because they are the ones used by those desperate to demonize the way a person is born and lives their life and condemn them. A person that is truly Christian should not be so concerned with human law that they would try to bend policy for discriminatory purposes as so many do, particularly when it has absolutely no impact on their personal lives.

You want to denounce Christians, Christianity and the Bible because of a different culture over 2000 years ago? How shallow and pitiful is that? And according to your estimation, it was wrong for the US to fight against Japan and Germany in the 2d world war. I mean hey, women and children died as well. You understand so very little.

Levi, just in case you haven't noticed:

                  Non-believers have great mental limitations.

See they can only be taught the physical and tangible things of this earth that can be proven by scientists. They always go around claiming how stupid believers are but it is their minds that are the ones limited to what only two year olds and dogs can be taught. If you can't hit them with it, it doesn't exist.

Don't be too hard on them, it is just how they were raised. One day they might become mentally and spirituality enlightened.

... and well she should! If you're gay, then be gay! Why drag a woman into it? Tell her up front, and maybe she'll go along with it, but to deceive her and pretend to be something you're not is unforgivable. She's taking back control of her life. I wish her much success!

Sorry, I wish her the best, but I don't feel sorry for her in the least. This woman is one of the many people who is against homosexuals being who they are. It's that kind of societal pressure and fear of being openly gay that causes homosexuals to pretend to be something they're not in the first place. If anyone's going to end up with closeted gay men as husbands, it should be the very people who contribute to the atmosphere that leads them to be closeted.

                  Jessica and Closeted:

Again, the media is the one that focuses on homosexuality and makes it the "big sin". All sin is wrong and shouldn't be overlooked by anyone claiming to be a Christian. Your attack against us by putting words in our mouths is wrong; just as much as I would be if I attacked you for being what you are. If you're not a Christian, it's not anyone else's problem what you do. But, when you step on this side, you will be held accountable for your actions- if not by other Christians, certainly by Jesus Himself.

Bishop Eddie Long is wrong if he did those things to those boys, first because homosexuality is wrong and he committed adultery against his wife. Don't judge us because we happen to believe what the bible says. Take it up with God. But if you're not a Christian, it doesn't concern you or the media any way. Do what you want to and live any way you please. Nobody's stopping you because it's up to each of us to believe and follow. That's the beauty of the "Jesus" way- it's not forced on you- you make the choice.

I don't know, Holy, it certainly appears as if Christianity considers homosexuality to be the biggest sin of all, especially if you pay attention to the recent electoral issues concerning gay marriage.

I used to be in a men's Christian study group, but decided to leave after the pastor leading the group sent me an email railing against gay marriage and what he considered was "an abomination to God". Those were his exact words. I sent him a response letter asking the purpose of church-sanctioned bigotry, and all I got in return was a long diatribe about "God's Will" and "God's Holy Word" and a bunch of other crap that he felt was necessary to put in all caps....

So my question to all the conservative, literal-translationist Christians is this: What did Jesus have to say about homosexuality?

It's simple..............He said nothing at all.

Wrong. The book of Leviticus chapter 18 verse 22 (Holy Bible):

"Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination."

From The book of Romans (Holy Bible) chapter 1 verses 24 through 28:

24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves:

25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshiped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly , and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.

                  28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind to those things which are not convenient;

I got that from the King James Version Bible. I don't like them other Bibles because they cut out or add to the Bible.

Would you like to try again?

Oh, and the KJVB is actually just one of many versions of the Bible that have been produced throughout the centuries. To state that the KJVB is more valid than any others is simply your personal perspective, not evident of any "true" form of the Bible. In fact, ALL bibles we have today are a product of the canonization of the books that have been written. The Bible we have today (in any version) is a collection of hand-picked books that resulted from the separate Councils (such as Nicene) of authoritative leaders who decided these for us all. Just thought you should know.

this goes for all the megachurches, and any church that is preaching a message that "faithfullness brings wealth"

Considering the bible is pretty clear that RICH MEN do not enter the kingdom of heaven, I continue to wonder HOW ON EARTH churches, spirtual leaders and folks like Dave Ramsey can continue to make people think that chasing and admiring and desiring WEALTH (not just being comfortable, but WEALTH) is not a spirtual death sentence, if they TRULY BELIEVE the word of the bible.

I understand, they are just picking and choosing what to believe...and what to discard because it doesnt fit what they want out of THIS LIFE.

Just like gay christians do...they believe the word of the bible, except for that little bit about gays...and im being honest, it's truly only a LITTLE BIT in the bible.

Which begs the question, considering how little GOD paid attention to homosexuality...why do modern christians focus on it so much? Surely, Adultery, Murder, Rape, Child molestation/abuse are much bigger things to worry about...than gays having the right to marry, and not be kicked out a job/military (and yes I know that has been done away with, that doesnt negate that many people will actively try to reinstate it once they gain political power).

Jessica, thanks for sharing the hidden knowledge that Christians are not perfect. You're right... they are hypocrites, lesbians, homosexuals, liars, thieves, adulterers and cheats. And yet, the good news is... there is always room for one more... just like you.

It's real easy to enjoin a public discussion about another person's failings. All done without shedding a single beam of light on your own, which I assume, based upon your rhetoric are many.

I'm honored to finally know someone who is as perfect as Christ and is as all knowing as God.

Since you don't believe in Christ and that those whom early on decided to give their Pastor the opportunity of the benefit of doubt were RETARDS. Please enlighten me and the other lost souls... what or whom do you believe in that is greater than the Son of God, Jesus Christ?

Better yet... I don't need an answer since I'm doomed to be considered a fool (Retard) for Jesus Christ!

The age of consent for boys in Georgia is 16. The boys this man is accused of having sex with were 17 and 18, old enough to legally have sex as far as Georgia is concerned.

                          #4.16 - Fri Dec 2, 2011 2:53 PM EST

So does this mean its just a classic case of Homosexuality, if the boys were considered of age? If that were the case, I don't know why homosexuals would be offended by it?

                            #4.17 - Fri Dec 2, 2011 3:56 PM EST

It's offensive because even though the boys were not underage, they were coerced into sex with this guy. I don't know what "classic homosexuality" is, or even, as a heterosexual, what "classic heterosexuality" means, but the vast majority of people, regardless of their orientation, finds people like him abhorrent.

Weird. Something is wrong with this dude (gay I guess). I'm getting tired of hearing about men and their gay sex needs. This guy is a preacher to boot. Oh well...the Catholic Clergy seem to get away with it. Sick behavior....

And it's worse to be a baptist than catholic? Seems like there's division in the ranks.

Luckily for the world, Baptists don't have a massive hierarchy to cover up the paedo- and epebo- philic misdeeds of their representatives.

It's always the ones who are so ready and willing to cast stones at others who end up being guilty of the actions that they condemn in public. The wife has made the right move.

The church is a sham, read an article earlier about another chruch which banned inter racial couples, now this. Christianity is a scam for money, he increased his flock to 2500 preaching if you Believe you can get rich lol apparently his personal belief only led him to humiliation and disgrace but rich he is indeed, want to make easy money open up a franchise church, hallelujah. Hey man Worshipers stop molesting children, stop being adulterous , stop being nothing but materialistic, stop looking down on others while you do all this evil all day long you damn hypocrites. And this is just your leaders the cream of the crop, one can only wonder as to what filth fills the pews.

The church itself (Christ's body that he died for) is NOT A SHAM. It's these pastors, layleaders and such that are given the Church a bad image and name. NOBODY IS PERFECT. Even christians, like myself, make mistakes, but it's through Christ's Blood we are forgiven. WE CHRISTIANS ARE NOT ALL LIKE THIS. Yes, we sin. But we (everybody that is a christian) is the ambassador for Christ. We represent HIM. There are some megachurches that mislead their congregation because of greed. Their not the real churches. The ones that preach what Jesus did on the cross, now they are the real Churches. The ones that stick to the Holy Bible only and not what this person or that person said. You want to know if their really preaching the gospel? Well then pick up the Holy Bible and read it for yourself. Don't take no man or woman's word, read it for yourself.

I guess people want to believe they are on the path to righteousness. Churches that continually ask for money are crooked. Where do you think it goes knuckleheads? Right in child raper's pocket!

                                            Darrel,

A church with 60 people that won't allow inter-racial couples to marry, (the new pastor welcomed them back) and you use that as an excuse not to go to church. In my humble opionion, you are either fooling yourself or trying to fool the people here.

I can understand that some have doubts, some don't believe, and thats fine. Just be honest.

There's nothing wrong with what David said. As christians, you represent your god to everyone - you are an example. When those examples are caught being hypocritical (and some times over and over again) it's a valid example of the belief/god christians serve.

Are you suggesting that if you find one bad cop, one should infer that all cops are bad? If you have soldiers defending the United States all over the world and one is bad, does that mean the United States is bad? If you can extrapilate that all are bad from one being bad, you do an injustice to all the good ones.

                                            jrl....I agree with Darrel's sentiment.

As someone who struggles to believe in GOD, and all the fairytales written about him...and then I see his examples of christianity all about (not just one, or two, but millions) and I find most if not all of them to simply be nothing by hypocrites I come to the conclusion...

                                            WHATS THE POINT?

I'll be seeing you all in hell anyway, i'd rather spend my time here and now doing what I want and having a good time...you can spend yours in church, doing your best...but we'll still see each other in hell if GOD really exists.

Americans, by default are WEALTHY...and as GOD says, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, than a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.

Therefore, being that im wealthy (in comparison to the rest of the world)...means im automatically going to hell, so my homosexuality is of no real importance at this point.

I cant change that im wealthy by comparison, so...off to hell we all go.

                                            Jessica,

I'm sorry, but I think you misinterpret that passage from the bible. I believe that humans try to put the bible in "human" terms and misunderstand what the real meaning is; but that's for another day.

I still ask the question about one bad cop or one bad soldier. If you like, make it 2 or 3 or what ever. Does it make all cops or soldiers bad because of a few? Even if you find only one good one, do you condem them because of the others? You can go through life and point out the lack of morals in any group of people, you cann't just say that all people in a group are bad.

I'm sorry you strugle, I think we all do. I think if we all stand on good moral footings and by example, help others be better people, we all get better. Mother Teresa spent a lifetime helping others. She happened to be Catholic. Would you, or anyone condem her because of her religious beliefs?

I suspect you are a good decent person and I hope I am. If my prayers come to fruition, I will see you in Heaven.

It's nonsense like this that causes people to look with disdain at the Christian faith. I would see the congregation I serve shrink and close before I would proclaim a false gospel. Salvation by faith in Christ alone. There is no earthly wealth that can match that.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's all fiction. Eternal life, "salvation," hell, heaven, talking snakes, virgin births, people turning into salt, worldwide flood, a man living unharmed in a giant fish for three days, blah blah. All made up.

People like this "Bishop" Long prey on weak-minded people willing to believe in Bronze Age mythology, even those who are so desperate to believe that they'd ignore the VERY clear teachings of the person on whom the "church" was supposedly founded! Jesus made a number of exceptionally clear statements regarding wealth and possessions, none of them at all consistent with "God will make the faithful rich."

You all get what you deserve. A life filled with delusion, and free of money since you gave so much of it to this charlatan and his "church," that life ending the same way every other living organism's life ends: Permanent death.

Given that Benny Hinn is homophobic, I wonder if he's burning his wardrobe now.

No Illinois, the idea for that outfit came to him in a dream: He was having wild butt love with M.C. Hammer and P. Diddy and when some one knocked on the door in their rush to get dressed they got their cloths mixed up!

What he likely really meant was "I also ask that the public TO SEND MORE MONEY TO ME during this difficult period of transition."

Or maybe he meant "I also ask that the public pray AND ASK GOD HOW MUCH MONEY TO SEND TO ME during this difficult period of transition."

They should lock up these prosperity preachers and charge them all with fraud. They tell their followers they will be rewarded by God but the chief rewards seem to be Bentleys, Rolls, and earthly mansions for the pastors. Yet the followers get so deluded by believing that "God" is directing those that are fleecing them that they would cheer this man over his personal failings. But is redemption really something that can be bought with cash? Where is his remorse? Where is his admission of extreme hypocrising? Of course there is none of that involved in his "redemption". No admission of anything, just that "we are moving forward".

At least his wife seems to have some sense left.

Please. Don't paint her as some sort of trodden-upon victim who has been delivered from the evil clutches of her nefarious husband.

She too has been living the good life on the bank accounts of all these brainless sheep who poured money into Long's coffers. And you can damn sure bet she'll be lawyering up to get her share of it now that the sham marriage is over, too.
