SAN ANTONIO -- Authorities say a 12-year-old girl shot by her mother during a standoff at a Texas welfare office has died.
Laredo police spokesman Joe Baeza said Ramie Grimmer died Wednesday at a San Antonio hospital. Her 10-year-old brother was in critical condition.
Their mother, Rachelle Grimmer, was found dead Monday inside a state welfare office in Laredo. Authorities say the 38-year-old killed herself after shooting her children during a seven-hour standoff with police.
The girl's Facebook profile had been updated to read "may die 2day" just hours before the shootings.
The family had been denied food stamps. The Texas Department of Health and Human Services says the agency rejected Grimmer's application because she did not submit enough information.

What a sad, sick thing to happen over a couple hundred dollars a month in food stamps in the wealthiest country in the world.
We can do better.
Anyone who has ever been in a welfare office, especially a Texas one, knows how many hoops they put people through. It's just not coming in and getting your stamps. Far from. As for the woman missing information. Very possible. The welfare office by here is very good about 'losing' paperwork.
As for this lady, she had issues. Hunger can do that to people (hint to congress). But I wouldn't put it past the system to drive this woman to do what she did. It's just sad that the kids had to suffer for this woman's insanity.
What a load of crap that is! Really? You would listen to that idiot from Florida? Who is gone now? And, by the way, we are no longer the wealthiest country in the world. We are over 15 trillion in debt with no end in sight, thanks to the Democrats, who brought us the welfare system in the first place. Welfare needs to be a temporary bridge to work, not a way of life. 47% of the people in this country pay absolutely no income tax. How is that fair? When people get a free ride, they never appreciate what they have. There is a loss of pride in dependence on the government and we have not helped people by making it easy to get and stay on welfare. If we continue the way we are going, there will be no workers, just takers. Where will the money come from then?
and so our humanity is less important than filling in all the proper fields on a form...........
how callus............how heartless............we used to be better than this.
Someone at the welfare department will have to explain to the one surviving child why the state wouldn't feed them...why their desperate mother did what she did.......
mankind will never evolve unless we start putting people, ALL people, before money..profit..
this did not need to happen.
Lily's Mom -
The 47% percent of people who pay no income tax make under or right around $15,000 per year. That is at Federal Min wage of $7.25 per hour and 40 hours per week. These people do still get taxes out of their check, but they just get it back at the end of the tax year. Think about what you are saying.. How is that a free ride? These people who do not have to pay taxes, but work are working their butts off for skeevy Wally and friends so those rich bastards can milk the hard working American people. Yet the people who are working to make the 1% crazy wealthy do not deserve some help in return? If these coorporations do not want to pay a fair wage to working adults with families then they need to cough up the taxes to supplement the income. Furthermore with this economic climate, we have people with BA, BS, MS degrees also working at places like Target and Walmart - making no more then 10 to 12 per hour MAX. Why don't they deserve help? The 1% stole everything they had. They need to pay us back by paying higher taxes so the rest of us don't have to decide what is more important - feeding our children or keeping our children in safe neighborhoods.
I am assuming that you lean towards the right politically - Tell me this - How is it right to disallow abortions, but when people have the children that they otherwise would have aborted because of lack of finances the children are not taken care of?
How is it right for the wealthy who own our as5es to take everything from us but not give anything back? How is it right that the backbone of America supports these people - yet all we get in return is a refusal on their parts to pay their fair percentage in taxes - and while they are laughing at us idiots who they blatently stole EVERYTHING WE HAD IN THE BANK from - then send our jobs over sees. Yet we should not try to get handouts to stay on our feet.
This lady needed to feed her children - she was denied food for her children - that is NOT right. There is nothing indicating that she was trying to live off of welfare indefinitely. She just wanted to feed her kids. With a high percentage of unemployment rate - sometimes we just need a little help.
Get off your high horse and god forbid you never have your savings stolen from you and your job cut with three mouths to feed...
here -here
Lily's Mom - our $15 trillion debt is not because of
Our country was not in debt when Clinton left office.
This may be true for some, but overall I think that line is utter BS & quite offensive. There are plenty of people who have needed welfare, used it & went back to work. My mom needed food stamps years ago & that's exactly what she did. And let me tell you that it was greatly appreciated.
I agree with mhp in saying you need to come down from that high horse of yours.
How about the first question from welfare should be 'are you and your kids hungry now!' How about we ensure that you and the kids are not hungry while we help you get the rest of the information needed.
Lily's Mom: yes, there is 47% of the population out there that doesn't pay income tax. The vast majority of those people are working poor. Was the mother right to shoot her kids and kill herself? Of course not, but we are going to see that type of situations happen more and more now because there are no jobs out there. You are right though, we are no longer the richest country in the world, but our downfall started long before Obama. Do some searching about the Reagan area, and many of the polices and people he had at his right side to run the government. It all started back then many people say. Some say it started with Lindon Johnson, he did his damage to the Social Security by transferring funds to the governments general fun to balance the budget.
"Lilly'sMom", I cannot believe the total lack of compassion from a woman, as the GOP rheteric you are spouting. The wast majority of your post is a total LIE, and what is not a lie has been twisted by the Repblithug party & tea Nuts.
An 18 page application! WTF. Lilly's Mom, I hope and pray that YOU someday need assistence and have to go on food stamps. YOO personally are one of the worst types of americans there are, greedy and selfish.
F-u and your GOP/TP loving type.
G
Lilly, you my dear sister lack compassion. Lilly, when was the last time you helped somebody in need?
You're an idiot.
:'(
That struck me with such a hollow feeling...Makes you wonder what exactly did these children suffer at the hand of their mother. Prayers for the young girl and her brother as well.
Rest in peace little one, my heart bleeds.
We have allowed a heartless Republithug establishment to do this kind of damage. We will change this in the elections of 2012 with the removal of as many GOP/TP traitors as possible.
G
I agree it brings tears to my eyes just to think the one person this little girl should have felt safe around and to have protect her was the one person who brought her little life to an end. It is an unfortunate but true statistic that according to the NCVS 1 out of every 5 violent crimes is done by a family member. May God's angels bring her to peace and comfort her little brother.
Critical Thinker with that kind of talk it sounds like you create problems. Are you sure you're not on that mothers side?
this is so sad. She did not provide enough information. She should have just said that she was in the country illegally and that the kids are citizens and she would have been approved on the spot. Texas is doomed with this problem.
Well, Texas is doomed...period.
You are a sad case. Hope you get help.
Did the article say she was here illegally? I missed that part, but I understand how one could assume illegality from the name Rachelle Grimmer...not. Fact is that Texas has more people making minimum wage than anywhere else, so a full-time week gets you $290 less SSA & medicare, if you are fortunate enough to find a job in fast food. How does anyone live on that? And yes Texas has this problem, and the Republicans for a time wanted Rick Perry for president. It's good they came to their sens---scratch that.
SanityCheck,
they were not here illegally. the point of madcitizen is that illegals do not need to fill out nearly as much paperwork or forms as legal citizens to do in order to get assitance, and get it faster.
(Although, from what I found, you get assistance in under 7 days if you file correctly)
Over food stamps! That mom must have been starving.
or feeling very entitled
Sad that we have to work hard, pay taxes, and then when we need help then it's not easy. No one likes to go to welfare for help. But life has a way of playing hardball. Just hope you're not there someday.
No one is immune from poverty. Remember that.
We have no clue what her actual financial status or job history was. She may have been a deserving poor who was temporarily down on her luck or a leech. The story didn't say.
Do you honestly believe, that someone that was just scamming the system would go to that extreme?
For the negative folks: Does it really matter? It's food. Desperate mother with 2 children, needing food. Can't imagine (thankfully!) the shoes she was walking in. Was she crazy as a bed bug? At that moment in time, absolutely. Doesn't matter. It's food.
A lot of whiny, entitlement things I don't agree with. However, nobody in our back yards should go hungry.
I agree with SomewhereinIdaho, we are turning down americans in need. The arguement of "entitlements" just absolutely pisses me off to the bone. The heartless republithugs and teanuts should be tarred and feathered, then run out of this nation.
G
So these admisistrators could not give a lousy hunded bucks or so of food until she could file the other papers. I guess for them this was a good trade-off, 3 deaths for a lousy hundred bucks or so in food stamps. That family must really have been desperate, and this clearly drove the mom over the edge. Expect more of this if the Republicans/Tea Pary has its way. A society is best judged by the way it takes care of its most vulnerable.
Critical Thinker (Maine)
"I agree with SomewhereinIdaho, we are turning down americans in need. The arguement of "entitlements" just absolutely pisses me off to the bone. The heartless republithugs and teanuts should be tarred and feathered, then run out of this nation."
It would be a lot easier on you if you just left. Your critical thinking skills are lacking. Maybe some meds will help you to calm down.
Elect Rick Perry and he can do as much for the whole country.
poor little girl, I was hopping she was gonna make it. this is so sad !
One thing is certain. Something was dreadfully wrong and the underlying cause couldn't be food stamps. I don't understand why she'd shoot her children if she was upset with the people at the welfare office. I wonder what kept her from shooting the people in the office. Yet, that same thing didn't prevent her from shooting her own children. They weren't the ones denying her the stamps. Her children were probably on her side. It's just a wow - difficult to processs.
Her family says she was mentally unstable. That I believe. I'm sorry for her daughter. She already knew her mother was going to do something extra crazy when she posted the FB message. What a way to die - last day on earth - watch your mom unpeel like an orange in a public place (7 hours of unpeeling) and then watch yourself get killed by your mom as she completely unravels. My, my. What's it all coming to?
You've never been hopeless, frustrated, and without options have you? From her point of view she was probably "saving" them from Child Services and/or not having a mother, which I can tell you is no picnic.
I'm sure she had underlying mental disease. However, why didn't anyone help her with her mental problems?
You see, you can easily try to put the blame on this woman, but the reality is that it is a reflection on our society and our priorities.
DocThomas---- This case is not about hunger. It isn't about frustration. It wasn't about "saving" children. Are you serious? This case is about psychoticism, period. The only scenario that I can imagine is that she shot her children to make a point with the welfare folks for denying the stamps.
However, the real point is the woman was clearly mentally unstable. It's too bad she wasn't arrested before she shot her children. The article says it was a 7-hour stand-off. Why did it take so long for the proper authorities to handle this one woman allowing her to shoot her children? Society cannot take the blame for this one. Something's been amiss here for a long time. That situation didn't begin in the welfare office, and society has nothing to do with it.
Actually, society has every role to play in every human act. To deny such is to deny responsibility as a collective. I hate people who try to deny responsibility.
The problem started with the economy, people's mentalities towards the unemployed and the poor, and ultimately, politics.
We, the citizens, are but a stepping stone for Corporatist politicians to use and abuse. That needs to change.
Mental issues are not to be taken lightly. People that don't have any mental issues will never understand the full scope of the effects of a mental condition.
I agree with you, SeattleDolt. The economy already has put a strain on people. Add that on to a person with a mental condition, and you're throwing gas on the fire.
SeattleDolt----
From where are you getting these rules? People are responsible for their own actions, period. To reiterate, this woman's problems didn't begin in that welfare office. She, herself, knew that she was mentally unstable. She should've given her children to her family, their biological father, foster care, something. If she shot her children in the welfare office because she was upset with other people, how was she treating them at home?
Here's my real point, though. People are responsible for their own actions - not society. If you believe your own logic, then that means you're responsible for every gang member, every rapist, every murderer, every adulterer, every anybody who's bringing harm to others - your'e responsible - if you subscribe to your own logic - every thug, every drug dealer - every child molester - you're the cause. Are you still there SeattleDolt?
Tortcots is absolutely correct. Quite frankly, it's frustrating to see people constantly blaming their own mistakes on others. We have to take responsibility for our own actions. It doesn't matter what upset the woman-- violating the rights of her children puts her, and her alone, 100% in the wrong.
Unfortunately, as long as our society expects some public entity to take care of the sick and poor, those who really need help are not going to have many of their needs met. The government cannot and should not take care of everything-- they're too large and incompetent. Private organizations and charities with hardworking and dedicated individuals who actually care about a given issue are the only ones who can actually make a difference.
Every dollar of my income that our politicians blow on wars, socialistic programs, fascist tariffs and idiotic financial schemes is a dollar that I could have used towards an organization that may have made a difference in a persons life. The day the IRS and federal reserve are gone will be the day that private organizations are finally set free to change the world.
For those wondering about why SWAT took so long to storm the building; breaching ANY building in a hostage situation is the LAST thing any SWAT Team wants to do, since it not only puts officers at risk, it puts the hostages at risk as well.
They sure as Hell couldn't get a sniper shot on her, since she was INSIDE, and the sniper would've had NO CLEAR LINE OF SIGHT. They tried to talk her out of the office, but she hung up several times and wouldn't cooperate.
Come on, people! This situation isn't about the bankers, the economy, the debt, or the welfare system! It's about ONE woman and the choices she made! I've yet to see ANY of you question WHY she moved from Ohio to Laredo, or how she got a hold of a gun to begin with! I can tell you she most likely got the gun off the street, since the gun shops here wouldn't have sold her a weapon on the basis that she didn't even appear to be of sound mind.
But, can you still blame the workers? The system? Remember, the workers have their hands tied by the law. They just can't give foodstamps to anyone that says, "I'm poor and I need foodstamps," because if they did that to one person, they'd have to do that for EVERY PERSON THAT WALKS THROUGH THE DOOR. I'm fairly sure NONE OF YOU would want to pay MORE taxes just to cover the cost of foodstamps.
It's sad that this little girl didn't survive, but now, her brother could be following her very soon.
As desperate as this woman may have been, it was NO EXCUSE for her to have done what she did. No excuse at all.
Wow, there are some very apathetic people on this vine. I wish everyone of of you hateful GOP/TP, all for me, none for you types find out what it is like to be denied assistence. Sure, there are a lot of unanswered questions, but your display of apathy turns my stomach.
G
It's rather sick that we can find the money and time to bail out banks but not take care of the most vulnerable of citizens.
Yet I hear screams and shouts about how we're a Christian country. No, we're not. If we are anything, we worship Satanism. Satanism puts self and material gain ahead of all other priorities. If you don't like that characterization, then you need to quit whining about taking care of the poor and vulnerable.
At state level - think of the States and cities that pour milions upon millions of taxpayer funds into building stadiums for mega rich team owners. Those mega millions would buy a lot of food and much more
So true, and it sickens me that the GO-P/tea nuts shroud themselves in their bible thumping. They particularly are the WORST kind of christians.
I will remind those thumping their bibles of the good samaritan story or jesus saying that anyone that reaches out to help the least of his people is helping him.
DOWN with the Go-P / Tea Nuts
G
Things like this can be expected to happen more often if anti-choicers and republicans in general get their way.
Certainly is no excuse for her choice to harm innocents, though. If you're suffering and you feel like you have to end your own suffering, that's understandable. But you don't have the right to take others with you.
agreed dubbleyew. One thing I don't understand at all. The children are 10 and 12. Old enough to be left after school for a short time. I imagine she ruled out "work" as a way of getting money.
When someone commits suicide, people ask why didn't they seek help. When they kill others instead of themselves, society asks why they didn't commit suicide instead. You cannot win.
This article is a prime example of sh(it) journalism, only a smattering of detail on a very politically charged subject.
Given the few facts that ihave read, to me it looks as if this woman was running from something or someone. Abusive relationship? The question that is bothering me is why run to texas? Texas is a GOP, all about the rich types state so why the heck go there? Did she have family there or was she trying to leave the country to get further away and got turned back at the border?
Way too many unanswered questions.
I still cant get over the 18page application for assistence. that speaks volumes that this state does not want to help those in need.
G
Neither do I- nor would I care to learn. Because you and I would have WORKED
I've heard of many people denied food stamps in TX who really need it and deserve it. It seems you can only get them if you're badly disabled, haven't worked in years, or declared by a doctor to be mentally incompetent.
I've also seen too many in TX that can work but are comfortable getting as much wellfare as they can and won't look for work because then they'll lose thier benefits. These people are messing things up for those who really need it.
that is crap! As if all states don't have freeloaders? Texas isn't any worse than the other states, for some reason people seem to think it's so bad; you should try living in California - I was there for 7 years & saw more people in fancy sports cars & living off goverment welfare, it was disgusting! I was so glad to get out of that state & to a place where people are actually proud of their religions (all faiths, not just christian extremists) and utilize their resources to build a better community and helping neighbors. Yes, that place is TEXAS!
What's amazing to me is the amount of posts I've read where people are not outraged at this so-called "mother." You are sitting in front of your computers and coming up with every rationale in the book for a mother shooting her own children in a welfare office because she was denied food stamps. Are you listening to yourselves?
You have almost transformed this woman into a martyred saint. She shot her own children - killed one - because someone else told her no, and you're behaving as if it's merely nothing - blaming society - blaming anything - and not even attempting to peep below the surface and see the real issue that's lurking beneath this totally, unnatural act. There's nothing even remotely "motherly" in this behavior.
No one - no real mother - MURDERS her children that easily. And, some of you are willing to wave it away - just excuse what's happened as if it's mere chafe blowing in the wind. What is wrong with some of you? You ought to be ashamed of yourselves. Seriously!
Denial is not a river in Egypt. If we denial that we are not part/all of the problem than it will happen again. Another mother will felt hopeless and want to commit suicide; and No mother will want her children to be shuffle within the Children Protection Agency.
This is a reason why corporations are not human. Any poster in this forum, well-off or desperate, will gave this wretched mother ½ of the bills in their wallet once we are aware of the outcome. But if I were to told my boss about this situation, I'm sure he will need to call a meeting.
BTW although we won't give this family money for food. We are giving the money to the farmer right outside of the welfare office not to plant food.
Low wages are the real culprit of this dilemna in TX. Why look for work when you'll make probably less than you'd get from welfare? This is the trade-off of too many buis owners in TX doing whatever it takes to join the super-rich. It overburdens the welfare system, cutting off those who really need help.
This woman was obviously unstable and was seeking help. She got a whole lot of nothing. She hadn't filed the proper paperwork, ie proof of employment. Apparently in Texas you need to be employed to get food stamps. Isn't that a little moronic? Not everyone who is denied food stamps will go this far but once is more than enough. Food stamps were created for people just like this woman. Hungry people. People who need a bit of help. She wasn't out stealing food, she was asking for that help. I don't know if she was a single parent, but a great many people don't know how difficult it is to find yourself in that place. Most people learn to cope, she wasn't able to. My husband left me and my two children when my youngest was six weeks old, two weeks before Christmas. It was devastating. If it weren't for the help I asked for and GOT, I don't know how I would have gotten through it. Most average people in this country are only a few paychecks away from a really bad place. I wouldn't be so quick to judge this woman. Her actions were horrible and criminal but she was a desperate and sick woman.
You don't have to be employed to get food stamps. Many are getting food stamps because they *aren't* employed. You can be working and collect food stamps, but you have to earn under a certain amount. And they don't take into account of your bills that you pay.
Where are you getting your information?
@DaveT:
While one might expect that anyone who needs help with basic nutrition should be able easily to get help anywhere in our great nation at the dawn of the early-21st century, this is not the way it works everywhere . . .
These are the facts in the "Lone Star" state for folks who are applying for SNAP food benefits, where "SNAP" is the patently surreal acronym the Texas Health and Human Services Commission coined for what used to be called "Food Stamps":
[NOTE: And what better possible name could there be than "SNAP" for a program that is quite likely to be used by mentally ill people in a state which has more weapons and ammunition per capita than the Marine Corps Recruit Depot at Paris Island, SC . . . ]
[SOURCE: "Your Texas Benefits: Getting Started" (PDF, 18 pages), https://www.yourtexasbenefits.com/ssp/SSPHome/ssphome.jsp ]
P. S. No doubt, your perspective probably is the same as my perspective was until I decided to do a bit of fact checking, at which time I realized that what any gracious and reasonable person should expect to be the case simply is not the way it actually works everywhere, so please read my comments in the gracious way they are intended . . .
And technically, I think that you are correct about not needing to be employed to get food stamps in the "Lone Star" state, since the SNAP application instructions also include this clue:
[SOURCE: "Your Texas Benefits: Getting Started" (PDF, 18 pages), https://www.yourtexasbenefits.com/ssp/SSPHome/ssphome.jsp ]
The problems are (a) that this sentence is embedded in 18 pages of information, (b) that it tends to require a high degree of literacy to connect the dots correctly without any confusion, and (c) that it requires the applicant to be able to make the inference that the no information required rule for "not being employed" is the same as the no information required rule for "not having a bank account" . .
At minimum, it has great potential for being confusing, especially for folks who might not be thinking so clearly due to being hungry, really . . .
Really! :-o
Thank you for the fact check. As I orginally thought, an 18page application is intended to keep people from obtaining assistence. It has become the GO-p's M.O to make things so complicated as to discredit any and all of our government.
In your write up of potential problems is also (d) a new or less knowledgable person at the DHS, reading the rule differently or not knowing it at all.
G
@Critical Thinker (Maine):
You wrote this, which certainly needs to be included in the list:
And this is what I like to call the "CYA Rule", which might not always work for maintaining one's full employment status but is golden for being able to sleep peacefully at night . . .
I would rather (a) grant someone a few weeks or months of emergency food assistance by mistake at the risk of being given a demerit, being castigated, or being fired by a jerk supervisor than (b) deny someone emergency food assistance only to discover that the person and their dependents actually qualified for help and that in response to being unfairly denied emergency help the person then went patently berserk . . .
I can deal with being fired or punished for acting as a merely decent human being, and I certainly enjoy being able to sleep peacefully at night, for sure . . .
For sure! :)
As a bit of follow-up, there is more vastly disturbing information about this incident and the way requests for food assistance generally are handled in the "Lone Star" state . . .
It was not simply a matter of a mentally ill woman going berserk during an argument with welfare workers, because as reported by the UK "Daily Mail", the shootings occurred after the SWAT team fired teargas into the building . . .
[NOTE: One of the things I discovered years ago while doing a bit of research on the February 1993 Waco incident where then Attorney General of the United States Janet Reno ordered a full assault on the so-called "Branch Davidian" compound that resulted in a massive fireball that killed 74 people, not including all the other people who were injured or killed earlier, is that in addition to being highly flammable, some types of teargas have significantly adverse mind-altering effects on human thinking, which is one of the reasons that some types of teargas generally are not recommended for use in hostage situations. Whether the local SWAT team used approved teargas is difficult to determine, but based on the outcome it does not appear to have been an optimal strategy, approved or unapproved. Nevertheless, based on photographs of the front of the building, there appears to be only one way to gain entry, which is through a glass door, and this makes it significantly more difficult for a SWAT team, but whether this is the case for the entire building (back and side door entrances, hallways, and so forth) is another matter, but there certainly were employees available who knew the layout of the building, and there certainly are other options than teargas, as explained in the post script (see below) . . . ]
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2070815/Ramie-Grimmer-12-shot-mother-food-stamps-stand-loses-fight-life.html
Yet another vastly disturbing bit of information was provided by Salo Otero, director of marketing for the South Texas Food Bank, a local food pantry that provides food for the needy in Laredo separately from the Texas Health and Human Services Commission but never was contacted by the mentally ill woman, where Mr. Otero indicated that their food pantry has 50 pound boxes of food readily available with no questions asked, but someone needs to let them know that there is a need . . .
[SOURCE: http://www.chron.com/news/local_news/article/Laredo-shooter-fretted-for-kids-2376457.php ]
http://southtexasfoodbank.org/
In other words, in just Laredo alone the Texas Health and Human Service Commission returns 40 million dollars of unused federal food assistance money to the federal government each year, which is so completely and totally egregious that any words which might be used to describe it cannot be used in a Newsvine comment . . .
As gracious as I try to be, failing to use 40 million dollars of federal food assistance money in a town where 30 percent of the people live below the poverty level allows no other inference than the bureaucrats at the Texas Health and Human Services Commission are a bunch of f-----g a-----s, really . . .
Really!
P. S. And the SWAT team should have used a combination of concussion or stun grenades and flash grenades hours earlier in a temporary version of "shock and awe" to allow a few additional seconds for the SWAT team to get inside the building and to gain control without permanently injuring anyone, for sure . . .
For sure! :-o
Some of you are still missing the point. You don't kill your children because someone tells you no. That woman has a family and a husband. I saw a video clip of the news story on another site and a neighbor spoke about how she had a party a few days ago and the husband brought the children over but the mother didn't come because she was so-called depressed.
So, at some point people have to take responsibility for their own mental illnesses. If people are feeling suicidal or feeling as though they might kill their children or their mates, they know how they feel, and if they really love their family, they need to remove themselves from the scene.
This case is not merely about what happened at that food stamp office. I'll say again, if that woman MURDERED her children that easily in public, how did you treat them at home, in private? I don't feel sorry for her. There was no good reason for that woman to murder her innocent children. None - her actions are totally inexcusable.
How about the a site to substantiate your claim. All we on this post have is what is written. To the rest of us, you appear the most heartless TP person around, spouting the GO-P line.
G
This is what happens when people are so addicted to welfare dole outs. They lose their dignity and are totally dependent on the government for their very existence. Ask obama why he not only support but actively promotes welfare addiction that a very large segment of the American population is totally dependent on the government? Is this his vision of America? Income distribution and a welfare state? It is time for him to go. We need an America whose population will work for food, not dole out from the sweat and blood of other citizens.
So you have other information not supplied by this article, perhaps you would like to site your source.
So this poor lady is now being branded a welfare addict by another GOP troll. I support mr Obama, because he IS trying to help the people, unlike the GOP field trying to destroy what's left of this once fine nation.
OBAMA in '12
Working towards the elimination of all GOP senators and congressmen in '12.

RIP Little one ...
Good job Texas government, you have cost this child her life, how many more have you put to death that we are not aware of?
Since when is denying help to a family considered the 'Godly" thing too do. Be sure to go to church on Sunday and wash your hands of this...Then you can leave with a clean conscious..
How disgusting, and this mentality is what drives the Cult Republician / TNutbaggers parties...
If there is a God trust me those that deny help for others will be the first to be sent to hell..
She didn't have the proper paperwork so she was denied benefits. Should the govt just hand out food stamps to anyone who shows up? If so, I think I will go down right now to the welfare office to get my free entitlements, regardless of my income or need.
Texas did NOT cost this child her life----her pathetic mother is responsible for that.
I suppose this will work out just fine for Texans - if they had it their way, the poor and disenfranchised would simply be left to die on their streets. Welcome to the new third world. Thump your bibles and lock your closets, hate and greed are fashionable no matter what you say.
Can a brother get an Amen! [Sarc]

This woman threw a temper tantrum and killed her own child. Only monsters will kill their own children.
Where did you get this information? Her actions represent a frustrated desperate person (male or female).
Another heartless Go-P post. Your lack of empathy sickens me!
G
She made the choice to shoot her own children. That makes her a monster.
My family and I send our deepest sympathies to the family of this tragic situation. People in Texas are just as entitled to help from our government and state as anyone else in the United States. Your governor should realize that and take the help when he can get it rather than turn the government down and run for president on the idea that people don't need help once in a while. He should be ashamed of himself for letting this happen on his watch. I don't want that kind of person as my President.
I live in Texas and am a Republican but I do NOT support Rick Perry, and I pray that he will not become a candidate for President, we need someone other than Obama, but Perry is NOT the man for the job! Bashing the people of Texas because this mentally ill woman happend to live here when she killed her kids and herself is stupid. Texas didn't create her problems & neither did Rick Perry - he creates all sorts of other problems though. If this woman had gone to a church and asked for help she probably would have received it! Our community is very involved in helping others, our churches of all faiths band together to provide assistance to those in need, including food, medical assistance, mental health assistance, housing assistance, etc. Texas is full of wonderful people of many faiths who believe in supporting a strong community for those of all income, race and age. You crazy Obama fans (yes, I include you, Critical Thinker) have put the most incompetent, inexperienced man in an office of power - you should be ashamed of yourself!
To be clear on how welfare and food stamps work, they have implemented enough anti-fraud systems to ensure that regular people, who don't have money for lawyers or gathering twenty different kinds of documentation, then making 10 trips to the city to meet with people, don't get aid... pretty much the only people left on public assistance are fraudsters, those who need it most just can't get it any more.
Only in rick perry's Texas!
One might guess that at the dawn of the early-21st century, this is the reason Texas continues to be the "Lone Star" state, because apparently there is only one person in the state who is not a complete and total jerk . . .
On the good side, at next week's Texas Health and Welfare Commission executive team meeting, the local department heads will be able to report that they have been "successful" in their efforts (a) to reduce statewide welfare rolls, (b) to protect children and infants, and (c) to eliminate fraud and abuse of the system by the mentally ill . . .
And what possibly could make more sense than requiring a mentally ill person who does not have enough food for basic nutrition to answer 18 pages of gobbledygook questions devised by a team of bureaucrats?
The metaphysical perspective here in the sound isolation studio is that Dante reserved a special ring in his "Inferno" for bureaucrats who value paperwork more than human compassion, dignity, health, well-being, and life, really . . .
Really! :-o
P. S. For the curious folks, you can review the application in PDF format (18 pages) by clicking on the "Get a paper form" at the bottom of the Texas Human and Health Services Commission website "Welcome to Your Texas Benefits" page, which without doubt makes it so much easier for starving mentally ill people to get all the information they need on their iPads and iPhones, all in the comfort of their cardboard box dwellings underneath bridges, for sure . . .

For sure! :-o
Conservatives and Liberals need to cool down. This is a tragic, isolated event. Not a national epidemic by people on Welfare killing their own. No welfare system will ever be perfect for every need. This mother obviously needed mental help. There is no way to help or avoid every single bad incident in a country of 300 million people. Tragedies will happen.
