Cops return stolen wedding dress in time for nuptials

A couple from Iowa who got married Saturday remain grateful for two Chicago police officers who found the bride's wedding dress.

Officers John McKenna and Paul Sandoval pulled over a vehicle on the west side early Saturday morning on suspicion it was stolen.

It was, and in the trunk of the car was a wedding dress.

The officers tracked down the owners and received permission to personally deliver the car and the dress back to them in time for the wedding.

"They didn't care about their belongings. There was other stuff missing from the vehicle, but as soon as she saw the wedding dress she was ecstatic, so it was a nice feeling. It was a nice end to a good story," said Sandoval.

The officers arrested the man driving the stolen car and discovered that he's a career criminal from the near west side.

I live near Chicago and I have found that 99.999% of Chicago Police are very good, indeed. They truly do work "to protect and to serve" the public.

How nice that the officers involved were willing to literally go the extra mile to deliver the wedding dress. Not everyone would do that. I hope the bride gave them a hug and a kiss. They deserved at least that much.

When I heard career criminal, I was thinking that our elected representatives must have adjourned earlier than expected from Washington D.C.

It is great to have a happy ending story every now and then! To much negative in the world. May their marriage last forever!

To much negative in the world.

This is why spelling is important (and I don't intend this as an assault on you, Judy). However, this looks like a toast rather than a complaint. What a difference an "o" makes, eh? :D

"To, too, two, or ballet tu tu," no one gives a crap, haaaaa! The English language should be simplified and and 2s should be just plain old "2". And with that said, I think you missed the point of how Judy is happy for a great ending. Internet ediquette also dictates that one can write as one texts, so she could have even written "2". XP!

Such a nice story.....very nice Christmas present for the happy couple.....too bad a few had to ruin the story by making it into a race issue....a criminal is a criminal.

Oh yeah kudos to the cops? Really?

Look at it this way as the story is lacking much detail, no surprise MSNBC.

The cops more than likely still "On Patrol" so still getting paid and the trip most likely put them into overtime. I doubt they waited till there shift was over and then drove it over on their own time, which a REALLY UP STANDING INDIVIDUAL WOULD DO. So lets see, that trip cost the tax payers how much-fuel, vehicle and police insurance, 2 officcers time(maybe even overtime-most likely) and who knows what other fees. Yeah it is nice but instead of apprehending more criminals now they are acting as a free(to dress owners) delivery service. A phone call coud have done it, the family could have sent someone to pick it up

Gosh fishman, stop being bitter for a second to be happy for others. Oh and the cops were doing their job, arresting a criminal. Just because he will probably be back on the street tomorrow is not the police's fault. Blame our system for that stuff. Some people are so ready to put down all cops until they need them. No where did I read these officers got overtime to deliver the dress.

As a matter of fact, the couple received the call at 1:30 am about the dress and they received it at 2:30am, one hour later. At 1:30 in the morning, I would have been very grateful they took the time to bring me my gown. Who cares if it was used for PR. Good for them. If you want to read more about this story (I can't put up a link) but just look up... police return wedding dress and WGNTV.

A nice story in the news. I wish we had more.

Well, it's obvious that the democrats are 100% to blame for the dress being stolen in the first place!!!

and though it is nice for the cops to return it, they did it on the tax payer dime and only for the PR op!!!

      Reply#12 - Sun Dec 11, 2011 10:20 PM EST

Mitzy, YES they PROBABLY delivered it on "the dime" but, I would still like to hear about "Sheriff Andy" over "Training Day" stories ANYTIME!! P.S. As a Conservative I take umbrage at your political remark, and to you and your family, Merry Christmas and a Happy and Joyful New Year. Shalom.

My step brother is a cop in Chicago and I for one am thankful he is there and he is GOOD at his job. There is good and bad amongst all people no matter what you do....Let's be happy for this couple that there was a happy ending for them.

Oh yeah great cops, instead of doing their real job apprehending criminals they are now a delivery service.

How much did this cost the tax payers of Chicago? Most likely put cops into overtime also. I'm sure the cops were real happy to "get permission" to delivery items. I'll even bet the family said they would goto station and the cops say " Oh don't worry we would be more than happy to delivery" Would you like us to pick up some pizzas or donuts on the way

Fishman, really? how hard is it to mail something? I'm pretty sure it didn't take much out of their day. And if they drove, Iowa is 2 hours from Chicago. Maybe one of them did it on their time off.

        Sheesh.

I think it's time for every state to adopt the 3 strikes you're out rule like California did. There should never be any "Career Criminals".

We should award medal for Chicago police officers as good model. Excellent job. American cops are spending too much time to generate revenue for cities, evict people from their home, pepper spray innocent victims, or working for the Riches, politicans, and their union.
