Subscribe to RSSSAN BERNARDINO, Calif. -- The man wanted in connection with the shooting of a soldier who was attending his own welcome home party Friday in San Bernardino turned himself in Monday afternoon.
The suspect, identified as Ruben Ray Jurado, surrendered to authorities at the Chino Hills Sheriff’s Station.

Ruben Ray Jurado is accused in the shooting of soldier Christopher Sullivan.
Jurado was to be brought to San Bernardino City Police station for questioning and then booked, according to police.
Earlier Monday, authorities released a mug shot of Jurado, who allegedly shot Army Spec. Christopher Sullivan. The 22-year-old soldier, who was on leave, remained hospitalized Monday in critical condition.
Family members say the Purple Heart recipient suffered two gunshot wounds, which shattered his spine and left him paralyzed.
Sullivan was at his own welcome home party Friday night in the 2800 block of North Garner Avenue.
At the party, Sullivan's brother got into an argument over football teams with Jurado, who was an acquaintance of Sullivan and had played football with him in high school, police Sgt. Gary Robertson said.
Jurado punched Sullivan's brother and Sullivan intervened. Jurado then pulled a gun and fired multiple shots, hitting Sullivan in the neck, Robertson said.
Sullivan was wounded in a suicide bombing attack last year in Kandahar while serving with the 101st Infantry Division. He suffered a cracked collar bone and brain damage in the attack and had been recovering in Kentucky, where he is stationed. He was home on leave when the shooting occurred.
The Los Angeles Times reported that Sullivan joined the military in 2009.
Fabian Salazar, a soldier who served with Sullivan in Afghanistan, said Sullivan rushed back to try to rescue other soldiers after the bomb blast propelled him several feet, leaving him dizzy and disoriented.
"I know he would take a bullet for his brother," Salazar told the newspaper. "And if you asked him again after all this... if he would take a bullet for him again, he would say yes. That's the type of person he is."

Sad to say I have seen a lot of Anti US Military Posts on Newsvine, like we are personally to blame for going where the US Politicians (that they hired) demand the US Military goes.
This is understandable since 92% of US Citizens NEVER Served in the US Military, so they really do not know much from firsthand experience what we currently do (mostly Humanitarian Assistance Missions (US Military Asymmetric Warfare), Counter Insurgency, Counter Terrorist, etc. to keep the local populations safe), and (US Military Conventional Warfare Forces) Law Enforcement like Actions Patrolling Streets, Roads, Villages, etc. to keep the local populations safe.

LOL takenaka - Who's we? I certainly won't agree to that. I think you'll find a lot fewer Americans than you think will agree to that. In fact I think you are going to continue to find more and more Americans buying handguns in the near future. I don't think the number of Americans who ever wanted to ban handguns was a majority and that number is falling. I personally know several people, who 5 years ago wanted either to ban handguns or, at a minimum, didn't want anything to do with them, who are now looking to buy one or have bought one. I get calls or e-mails from friends who I didn't think would ever own a gun calling me asking my advice on which one to buy. I think this trend is only going to pick up speed - At least for a while.

First. Having been to Southern California as US Military Asymmetric Warfare Attached to US Law Enforcement. It is not uncommon for Gang Members to execute former Gang Members that left the Gangs. The current situation at Southern California is exactly why during long (hours) layovers at LAX, I refuse to visit my relatives that live minutes away. During many heated arguements I have told my Aunt, Cousins, etc. to sell the Family Farm and move to Northern California (my Brother In Law) or out of California.
In 2004 California spent over $10 Billion on Illegal Aliens, $7.7 Billion Education of Illegal Aliens, $1.4 Billion Health Care Illegal Aliens, $1.4 Billion Imprisonment of Illegal Aliens (Violent Crimes, Murder, Rape, Armed Assault, Gang Initiations (Random Murder, Rape, etc.), this does not include the US Taxpayer Funded Public Assistance, SNAP (Food Stamps), Public Housing, etc. (Taxes collected from Illegal Aliens $17 Million). This over $10 Billion then becomes Unavailable for Law Enforcement, Fire Fighters, Teachers, etc.. Take a rough guess how much more worse this situation became as more Illegal Aliens fled to California as the other States Inacted and Enforced more Anti Illegal Alien Laws, and the Illegal Aliens stopped filling out Employer Paperwork (Income Tax Withholding, as Felony Criminal Tax Evasion) and "Work for Cash Only" (Sales Taxes are chump change, Millions USDs, compared to State and Federal Income Taxes, Billions USDs).
Second. Was this a Legally Purchased Firearm or was this an Illegal Firearm.
Third. Making Firearms Illegal has not worked very well for Great Britain, as true to the saying, "Legal Citizens will not have them only the Criminals will", why for the longest time the unarmed British Police are backed up by a full Team of British SAS in a unmarked van 24/7. Same with Japan and the Yakuza, as the younger generations do not rely on bladed weapons and hand to hand skill.
Of course Historically the Banning of Firearms worked really well for British General Cornwallis and Henry Clinton by seizing the Colonists Armories prior to the American Revolution, with the Colonists Militia (Predecessors to the States National Guard) fleeing with the Founding Fathers from the British Regulars (Military), Bounty Hunters, British Loyalists, etc.; while the "Minutemen", individuals with Firearms as farmers, trappers, hunters, merchants, shopkeeps, etc. held off the British until the First Continental (Colonist) Army could be formed as the Founding Fathers were arguing about everything including the name. This is why based on the Historical Perspective the US Supreme Court Ruled that the D.C. Anti Gun Laws were Unconstitutional (A Legal Precedent, making the Detroit, Chicago and other Anti Gun Laws Unconstitutional also).
One of the First Things that Hitler did was to make the Citizens ownership of firearms Illegal to prevent any possible Putsches (German Citizens Overthrows) against him. The Russians previously did the same thing. Currently something that the Chinese do, reason why the Chinese Government could get away with Tienanmen Square. Only with the assistance and support of the Egyptian Military and the Muslim Brotherhood did the Egyptians get away with the Egyptian Revolution, with the Muslim Brotherhood and the Egyptian Citizens turning on the Egyptian Military. The first thing that the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group, Al Quada Yemen, Al Quada, Al Quada Syria, Hezbollah, etc. seized near Bengazi were the Gaddaffi Munitions Depots at 60 bunker Hight Razma facility before the first Demonstrations started.
Fourth. You and many others would really like to believe that it is the Duty of US Law Enforcement to be shot and or killed in the Line of Duty protecting you, guess again. This is why US Law Enforcement usually shows up AFTER a "Crime In Progress", even if they are minutes away. At one City, too poor to afford their own Police Department, they asked the US Military for US Military Officers to volunteer to be sworn in as Deputy Sherriffs with the side benefit of being able to have a Concealed Weapons Permit, and yes, I volunteered we were given very brief Classes from their Police Academy, and on the weekends with a partner patrolled; after probation we patrolled by ourselves on the weekends. This particular City, State had a significant problem of twin engined aircraft crashlanding into farmers fields full of drugs, with well armed drug runners showing up, loading the drugs into vehicles and heading North (if I would have known this I would have NEVER had volunteered). You and most of those that have never had this firsthand experience would really like to believe in the US Law Enforcement Protecting you, if you want a dose of the Real World go ask the Police Unions.
For home Defense, .45 Caliber Kimber Arms. Make sure they take a NRA Weapons Safety Class (with weapon actual firing range) before hand, and if possible the NRA Police (Law Enforcement) Officer's Course. Original intent of the M1911 .45 Caliber was to put down the doped up Moro Pirates, as the .38 caliber (also 9mm) were ineffective. The concept of the 9mm, as well as the .223 caliber (5.56mm NATO) was to create wounded so that two or more Enemy Military would be taken off the battlefield to evacuate the Enemy wounded, of course this did not work very well against the VC and NVA that would just execute their wounded and bury them to prevent body counts. This idea allows the Enemy to return fire or in the case of a Criminal seize the weapon.
This is unlike the US .308 (7.62mm) and Russian 7.62 mm designed to kill the enemy, as to why our standard US Military Asymmetric Mountain Warfare individual weapons are M21s/M25s 7.62mm, and NOT M4s, M-16s 5.56mm (originally designed as short ranged Jungle Warfare Weapons). Also the .45 caliber has less penetration power, less chance of penetrating a wall and hitting someone outside the house.
Any of you Anti NRA types, guess what the NRA teaches, the Police Effective Weapons Safety and US Law Enforcement Weapons Classes.
For the old farts like me (lots of firsthand experience) Smith and Wesson Revolver .357 magnum 6 inch barrel, Model 586 or Model 686, as recommended by Ballistic Research Labs Study of the FBI, and having considerable experience with the use as previous Law Enforcement and US Military (Combat Side Arm). This (.357, .38 Super, .40 caliber, etc.) should NEVER be recommended for Home Defense to those without previous experience (Law Enforcement and especially US Military Close Quarter Combat, low light levels.).

Anyone who resorts to violence over sports is the lowest, dumbest type of mutherphukker on the planet. It's California under the new law. He will plea it down to manslaughter, the D.A. will request prison time, the judge will give it to him, but under the new law since it is not one of the hienous crimes he will get the minimum sentence, and at county jail not state prison. Because local jails are overcrowded he will be given either time served if any or probabation. In CA the new saying is Do the Crime the ain't no Time.
I'm guessing nobody gets probabation and I don't think "the ain't no Time" thing is happening either.
