A New York City Department of Correction bus carrying 16 prisoners to a medium-security state prison has crashed on the New York State Thruway.
The bus overturned in Rockland County near Ramapo, between exits 14A and 14B on the northbound side.
Injured prisoners were being taken to an area hospital. Officials said none appeared to be seriously hurt.
Three DOC workers were also on board. The prisoners were being returned to Ulster Correctional facility after being in New York City for court appearances, officials said.
Chopper footage showed prisoners being loaded onto ambulances, while uninjured prisoners waited outside the overturned bus, handcuffed to each other.
Traffic is backed up for several miles.

Was Nicolas Cage on board?
lol!
I said, drop the bunny!
Nope. It was Eddie Murphy. " ...I been shot at, been on a bus that flipped over 17 (20) times....." from 48 Hours.
Maybe it was Chris Tucker doing a sequel to "Money Talks."
Could this be "Money Talks 2" with Chris Tucker and Charlie Sheen?
Mic,
I believe the Fugitive "Harrison Ford" was tho... LOL... O, crap that was a train wreak wasn't it ???
My first thought that was that it sounded like every "Walker, Texas Ranger" show ever made.
The bus driver looked just liked Chris Farley from "Billy Madison"
How about the "Fugitive" with Harrison Ford
There was an inmate on board named Reggie Hammond, two bikers were shooting at him according to the NY times..
"This is a bad week, to stop smoking"
Hope Tommy Lee's chase of Harrison is even better this time around.
"Every field house, dog house and out house..."
"Passing motorists were seen stopping and grabbing up fistfuls of inmates as they blew across the highway."
a little fast and furious for me!! hope dom is ok!
Were they all democrats ?
Shut up.....
Did you wet yourself thinking up that one?
Don't feed the troll.
Considering no one has gone to jail, they certainly weren't Wall St bankers..
Sorry to disappoint you but they were all republicans
no only republicans are in jail the love the money too much, you know wall st bankers, madoff comes to mind
I hope so post, I hope so.....
"I didn't kill my wife!"
"I don't care!"
"I don't care" is the best line in that movie. When someone whines at work I look at them the same way and with the best Jones voice I can muster and tell them "I don't care!"
Luckily they DID NOT end up on the tracks facing an oncoming train.
haha
everyone's a comedian, or at least they think they are
Oh great, now the con's can bring a lawsuit on the government ???
The bus driver was overheard saying, "You kids settle down! Don't make me come back there!", shortly before the crash.
Are we there yet?? Are we there yet?? Are we there yet??
"Let's sing a song! Wheels on the bus flip upside down, upside down, upside down!"
Too bad, the bus wasn't big enough to carry all of the republican criminals
Libtard.
They can't make a bus that large!
It's New York the dems have already stolen what there is to steal.
No,you guys have it all wrong!!!
It's the 5th season of Prison Break.
Michael Scofield didn't die after all.
A wild guess, that i am not suppossed to write of......jff
sounds like a good way to get rid of a bunch of criminals it had to be some liberal there to save them.
What a ridiculous, insensitive, stupid comment. You would have done what? Run them all over?
Thank you Sarasotan. I agree. That was on of the most ignorant statements I have ever read.
What do you sugggest billc, we incinerate anyone convicted of any crime? So that would be 1 in 5 males by the time they reach age 25 (2010 BCA statistics of violent crime). We just pack 1 out of every 5 men in America into a bus and drive it over a cliff? Way to think before you talk there Chief.
The visual of the prisoners handcuffed together reminds me of the time I had to tie 8 1st graders together with rope around their waists so they couldn't run off while on a field trip to the zoo.
I want you to search every outhouse, doghouse, and henhouse in a 5 mile radius
DAMM ! too bad it didn't blow up or catch on fire ! or roll off into the river :(
Really Mark? So would it be safe to infer that if it were up to you, it would be OK to just kill everyone who's in prison, because by extension, that's what you're suggesting?
Wow, the ignorance is amazing!
Hey MARK, do you have any clue what any of these people were charged with? Does it matter to you that they are brothers, sons, fathers, uncles? It says no where in this article that any of them were ever convicted of a crime. They were being bussed in for court appearances. Unless these were those rare post-conviction proceedings, every one of these "prisoners" had yet to be convicted of anything.
Do you really think it would be good to kill someone just because they've been charged with a crime? A person, such as yourself MARK, could find themselves held for a mistake like driving after revocation or failing to pay parking tickets or failing to provide proof of insurance. Would you like it if someone celebrated your death in such a situation?
C'mon MARK S, That was truly insensitive on your part! Just what did that poor bus or river ever do to you? LOL It's really too bad the bus didn't roll over a few ACLU attorney's handing the inmates business cards!
What caused the accident?
Bus inversion.
That's an elevated train.
Me, I hope the guards are o.k.
I thought this story would have a happy ending. I was wrong.
Very Upsetting story.
Wasn't that a NY Thugway?
omg these are freakin hilarious comments. thanks for the laughs!!
Yeah, hope gaurds aren't injured much/if at all. Mark S, why would you want that to happen? There were gaurds on bus also(people doing their job). Would you feel same way if one of the gaurds was someone you care about? From article, doesn't seem any prisoner got away-but sure LEO is checking area to be sure.
