LAFAYETTE, Colo. – Boulder County sheriff’s deputies say a man and a woman were seriously injured after a package left at their home exploded Saturday afternoon.
Their conditions were not immediately known, The Denver Post reported.
Police say they believe there may be another package in the car and were searching it with a bomb robot.
Neighbor Tim Walker told the Post that the woman had picked up two packages left at her doorstep and was loading them into a silver Volvo, parked outside the home, when one blast occurred.
Deputies evacuated several residences from the neighborhood by using ladders to help people climb over fences, the Denver newspaper reported.
Msnbc.com staff and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

That's not good , someone must be angry at someone , I've heard of kids putting dog mess in paper bags and setting them on fire as they ring the doorbell joke.....but this is like an attempted murder type prank....not funny...
Darn right it's not funny. When some apparent passive-aggressive coward hurts others, it is really not a prank. It's just not cool to upend a person's life for the sick gratification of feeling power and control.
Whoever does something like this obviously needs help.
I hope those affected will fully recover. And I hope the perp gets any help he or she might need.
yep...l hope they get well soon...and who ever did it get's caught ...before they harm any body else...
Not_So...
How about putting him in the Bomb Disposal team in Afghanistan for the duration then move him to the next hot spot. That's the best help he deserves.
Hope everyone comes out of it ok.
MSNBC. How about some updates to this story and some more info about this incident? Five sentences and thats it? Nothing about the victims conditions or who they might be. It has been about 7 hours since I first read this story.
Something isn't right about this story. She was taking packages to her car that were left on her door step...? It is quite possible that they actually knew what was in these packages and had an accidental detonation.
read the link in this story & get more details...perhaps will change your thinking re the victims in this story
I would hardly call setting up a bomb a prank.
How awful, damn!
must of ...blowed up real good...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHkvD7-u7y8
I don't understand the purpose of your link. This is a serious crime, nothing humorous about it.
Very funny, Plain Bob. I love SCTV.
It's "must have".
Ah, Farm Film Report! I love it!
Guess we are gonna have to buy some kind of package screening device now. What ever happened to the America I grew up in?
If you think this is bad, just wait until we have strict gun control laws and Americans are not allowed to defend their homes and families! I was glad to hear the young lady in Oklahoma will face no charges for killing the intruder that kicked down her door. There is not a glimmer of hope for the future of this country with the kind of people we have in Washington D. C. right now!
It turned into Europe.
Lelia and Longfarm: It never fails, there is always some lunatic gun fanatic to bring to the fore the plans of the evil government to take away our guns, when in fact they know that nothing could be farther from the truth. But I guess that fear mongering is the best they can do for lack of anything intelligent to say.
Longfarms: What you know about Europe could fill the point of a pin. But it sounds good, doesn't it? For the ignorants who believe you.
Rasputin
I'm with you on this one..(and you know from prior threads I am pro gun, anti idiots with guns). This story has ZERO to do with gun control... Zero Ziltch NONE. Colorado has OPEN carry and people actually do carry in all sorts of places. Though Boulder is liberal as it gets... think Eastern California.
There are any number of people that might be making a statement with blowing things up from eco types to anti mcmansion. What's strange is they were putting the packages in their vehicle, as if they expected the packages...
As if having a gun was going to prevent a bomb blowing up. The mentality of some gun freaks is truly scary. What a combo, a nut with a gun, how is that for safety?
George, your probably lonesome because your an idiot. What does the story have to do with a gun?
Rasputin-2589057
Although this article has nothing to do about gun control, let me ask you a question.
When somebody is breaking in your home and attacking yourself and/or your family, what do you plan on doing? Calling the police? Yeah...good to know that they will be there to write up a report on the murder while the guy who took everything away is out celebrating. They'll probably be texting/calling friends on the way to your house instead of focusing on the real emergency.
As much as I'd hate to have to take a life, protecting my own will always be a priority.
Okeeboy, I'm not sure how old you are or where you have had your head stuck in the sand for the last 200 or so years but "the America you grew up with" never existed. Since our inception we have been fighting amongst ourselves or at war with another country. This nation has never known peace, people look back to the 50's as a time when life was better but the TV shows and movies from the time were but a subtle form of propaganda. The 50's never happened for most people except on television, we had the same violence and hatred back then we just didnt have 24 hour cable news and the inernet to keep it shoved in your face every minute of the day.
I doubt you will need to do that, Okeeboy. There is no indication that this was random. Of course, since very little information was given in the story, there is no reason to believe that these people were specifically targeted, either.
Hopefully nothing further will occur, and the victims will recover.
Why would she have been putting a package left on her doorstep into her car? There may be more to this story.
Because I live on a corner lot, I do this all the time - if I notice a box or package at the door after I drive around from the garage, I will take it with me instead of disarming the alarm and taking it inside (and because I am usually late leaving for work) - but who knows?
Maybe she didn't recognize the package as something she ordered or it was addressed oddly, so she was going to drop it back at the PO?
Maybe she didn't have time to go back inside and was nervous about leaving a package outside for anyone to pick up?
Because of the fast news cycle, on the internet, most stories come out as bulletins with no real explanations. No time to investigate, if you want to beat your rivals. And then, the follow-ups are not as nearly prominent! They will post a lame report lower in the print columns that gives the weakest answers, if anything at all! I LOVE competition, in all business, but the few news organizations that do comprehensive reports, generally lose in the ratings battle!
One thing is glaring to me. Most people take packages left at their doorstep inside to open. Not out to the car.
But, until everything else comes out, I'll reserve judgement. Hopefully they'll fully recover.
kinda what i thought to...i don't think i would load it into my rig...unless it was some thing i made to deliver some place else...
they were driving along in their car when the package exploded..it's in the link
honey, your new iraqi alarm clock just arrived !
new iraqi alarm clock made in the USA by iraqis
She may have just noticed the packages at her door when she took off from home and decided to take them with her. My house is on a corner lot, so I do this all the time - leave the garage on the side and drive to the front - if I see a pkg at the door, I stop and pick it up before leaving for work......who knows though?
Newt Gingrich left the bomb there because those folks said they weren't going to vote for him.
The only republican Bombing is John McCain, telling Mit crowds how Obama will turn the economy around. Just a Freudian slip of what John knows to be true.
I'm more interested in why the neighbors needed ladders to climb over fences during the evacuation. Were they worried that the latches were rigged as well?
It may have been to far to walk to the gate or there might have been a package there.
Police probably had them go over the fence to their neighbor's back yard where there usually is no latch.
They were probably evacuating an apartment building or condo structure not a single family residence.
Ines
they evacuated over fences, not down balconies. The explosion was at a SFR. Generally Boulder neighborhoods are SFR of MFR and are rarely mixed... Very NIMBY and that includes apartments in a SFR area.
Somebody needs to market a robot to put on the market to sell to people to open packages left on their doorstep.
That the package was left at the doorstep is a purported unproven statement, NOT necessarily a fact. That she was putting it into her car when it exploded requires further investigation...had she made the package and was preparing to deliver it when it exploded?
This is just a start to a preliminary investigation. There are too many unanswered questions that need to be asked here. To conclude anything on the basis of the information given is presumptuous; speculative at best!
Very good point.
Hey folks, don't fret about who or why, it's Obama's fault, of course!
Isn't that true, Lelia?
I was about to smack you Rasputin... At least I got the sarcasm.
So many questions. Did any neighbor see who left the packages at the doorstep? Was it a UPS delivery or FedEx or the postman. Could it be the Taliban or al-Qaeda or the Mafia? Who are these people? Are they spies? Are they drug dealers? Are they federal witnesses in the witness protection program? When were the packages left? Was is it a bomb or something else that can just explode under certain conditions? Why was the woman putting the packages in the silver Volvo instead of taking them into the house? Was it her Volvo? Was it her house? What did I leave out?
Is it a Unabomber copycat? Because, on initial view, it sure looks like it could be... then again, it's too soon to tell for sure...
I love you Leila!
ME TOO!!
Ummm,whose leila?
I'm sorry, I love you Lelia!
Aww sh!t. Really?

wow that story leaves it wide open. guess i'd have to be suspicious of anything and everything. call a bomb squad if you get any packages your not sure about.
Kind of sketchy on details. I live right here in Colorado outside of Lafayette and the local news stations are playing the game they always play with saving the segment til the 10:00 news to boost their veiwer rating. Just like when we had the 4 Mile Canyon fire they kept coming on with as few details as possible and not until I looked up at the mountains did I see for myself the red flames heading toward my neighborhood. Not only did they keep the story a secret but the weather chick wouldn't even let out the wind speed or direction of the fire. Instead we got..
"FIRE in 4 Mile Canyon!..We'll have the complete story at 10!"
That's the Main-Stream-Media for you...
Boy that really sucks. I hope you are making a real ruckus at the station. They shouldn't get away with that crap.
The politicians have sold America as we once knew it down the tube with free food , free medical, free housing, free sex with no one responsible for their own actions.
Its going to get worse because the responsible people have loss their willingness to stand and be counted or they would not put up with a president with an illegal SS Number and no legal birth certificate. I say Where there is smoke there is fire. All this being shoved under the rug. Not proven true or false.
You're on the wrong thread. This is about a package blowing up.
UMM, where is this "free sex" of which you speak? If sex were free I would be having it a lot more often than I am, I can promise you that. I guess the women in my area didnt get the memo you sent out saying they no longer were entitled to dinner and a movie first.
There is a pretty good chance that someone in this family really wronged someone who didn't take kindly to getting screwed over. Next time don't screw with a smart guy.
Were the packages addressed to her? Maybe they were meant for a neighbor and mistakenly dropped there, hence why she loaded the package into the vehicle, to bring to the neighbor.
Now it is red light to any package without addresses, from sender to receiver.
Hope that they are ok.
Unfortunately, these things happen more, and more as the population grows. When I was younger, it happened, but unless it was a national figure, it didn't make the national news. With the internet, everybody gets a chance to read about it. The population of America hit 200 million when I was a teenager, and we're past 300 milion now. More people do more things, and our media brings the news to my computer, and your's.
