CHICAGO -- Seven teens were charged early Wednesday in the attack and robbery of a teenager that was caught on tape and posted on YouTube.
Six boys and a 15-year-old girl are accused of participating in the beating and robbery of a 17-year-old male at about 4 p.m. Sunday in an alley behind an elementary school just south of the city's downtown.
Raymond Palomino, 17, was the only person in the group charged as an adult, with robbery and aggravated battery.
The other six -- two 16-year-old boys, three 15-year-old boys and the15-year-old girl -- were charged as juveniles, also with one count of robbery and one count of aggravated battery. Their names were not released.
The video posted online shows five males kicking and punching the victim while taunting him with racial slurs. The victim was eventually able to run away. He was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released.
The Associated Press reported that the victim is of Asian descent. Even so, police say the beating did not appear to be racially motivated.
The offenders stole a pair of gym shoes, wallet and cash from the victim, police said.
Palomino is scheduled to appear in bond court Wednesday. The juvenile offenders were turned over to the Juvenile Detention Center for processing, police said.

They all need to be charged as adults. These kids are old enough to know the difference between right and wrong and if not so be it. Throw them all in jail/prison and have let those grown men show them what a bully is all about. I bet they will change their ways very quick. I hate bulleys and karma is a b**ch. I saw this video three times yesterday and watched countless videos of responses from YouTube users and News Networks. It's a truly awful thing that happened to the young victim in this video and sadly that type of gang beating happens every single day around different parts of the United States. This instance in particular went on to demonstrate how powerful the people in this country can be. Via the use of the Internet and various Social Networking Services, this video went viral and helped the Police Department quickly pinpoint the culprits. In a video that makes you lost a little bit of hope in humanity, the reaction from the people in this country should've made you realize that hope should be very much alive. A couple things that I've seen asked by those who aren't so familiar with the video:
1.) What ethnicity were the culprits? Most seemed to be Asian. I believe two of the individuals were White and Indian.
2.) Could the Victim speak English? From what I've gathered in the many videos I watched yesterday, yes. But it doesn't appear that he was able to speak much of it very fluently. The victim is said to be a foreign exchange student from China.
3.) Why is this considered a hate crime? The use of the n-word as an insult towards the victim was all it really needed to be labeled a hate crime. That word was meant to be harmful and to show that the victim was inferior to his attackers. It doesn't make any difference whether the victim was black or not.
4.) What was the purpose behind the attack? Contrary to popular belief, the attack wasn't based around robbing the victim. During the video you hear one of the culprits mention that there was previous attack against him involving 20 people (including the victim). Thus it appears the motive behind this attack was revenge on the victim for being involved (according to the culprit) in the previous attack.
Unlike many, I don't hope to see these kids murdered, raped or beaten to their last breath. Do I think strict punishment is needed? Very much so. Would I mind them getting roughed up when they arrive in jail/juvenile hall? Nope. They have it coming to them. But I do sincerely hope that these kids can understand what they did was wrong and try to become better people. I hope that rehabilitation is possible. These kids involved in this attack desperately need it.
Smart kids. Record your crime and post it on youtube. Put these idiots in lockup for a looong time.
What the hell are kids these days doing? Just does not make any sense what-so-ever. They should be put in the slammer to see what life is really like when everything is taken away from them.
Will not watch this or listen to this but these people need to be charged as adults and put in prison cells with the opposite race of the one they are hollering and let that person know what they were saying! Let them learn the hard way!
Charge them all as adults. No excuse on earth exists for this behavior. Let them see how tough they are in a real prison for a couple of years. Glad the kid that was attacked is OK - hope his family hires a good lawyer.

The laws need to change so they stop protecting these 'sweet darlings' and punish them so they never again repeat the same stupidity, let alone commit any other crime. The more intense the crime, the more intense the punishment. Simple.
Expel them from the U.S.! It's time to remove violent drains from our society! This is a liberal talking by the way!
These animals are nothing more than thuggish youths that waste their lives away taking from other people, and ruining other people’s lives. The sad part is many of these “families” (almost always headed by a single mother) are so delusional as to believe they did nothing wrong in the way they raised these violent thugs. Why they are not held accountable for their kid's criminal tendencies is beyond me. They are pretty much raising criminals and unleashing them on society, and probably shouldn’t be having kids in the first place. You can try to cover up their criminal tendencies with political correctness but that won't make them worthy of life in a civilized society.
Maybe, instead of treating the children like adults- treat the parents like adults and charge them for negligence in not teaching their children in how to start acting like adults...
I agree. Charge the parents but also charge the "children". They choose to commit a very violent act and video it. They are culpable as well.
WTF is wrong with these kids minds that they believe it is ok to viciously attack let alone at a ratio of 6 to 1. They should ALL be tried as adults and punished to the fullest allowed by law.

the parents need a ass whooping to for doing a horrible job as parents, i bet there proud. Thats why i pay for taekwondo for both of my sons,i teach them at all cost to walk away but in cases like this, this poor kid had no choice.i as a parent have giving permission to my sons to strike back ONLY if they cant walk away or are hit first i would love nothing more than to watch my 6 year old son whoop the crap out of all six of these kids at the same time but my family and i are better than that.hope that kids ok
I just do not know what to say. It saddens me only one was charged as an adult. Maybe we should start handing penalties to parents. When their kids are so misguided and vile. The sense of entitlement kids have today and they fear no one. When I was kid I was told if I felt I needed to raise my hands to fight It better be worth an a$$ kicking when I got home! In a couple years we see these kids' parents on the news. I don't know why that mean boy killed my jonny he is a good kid!... Blablabla these kids are thugs and are prolly being raised by thugs, Their mom or dad prolly posted it for them.. Sickening just sickening.

If those kids were to be beat down and kicked like that would would cry like littleB******, If our country keeps discriminating against each other, how do we expect more Extreme racists or terrorists to not do the same!!!!! People around the world are so ignorant to the meaning of LIFE. Those teens should be charged as adults and locked up, they were kicking him in the head i mean come on they look like a bunch of pansies ganging up on one person because they know they are the B****. You let kids get away with something like this, could only lead to worse damages and yes i know that they could wind up worse than before going into a jail. And maybe the prisons or jails shouldnt be allowed to get so out of control. If a person doesnt know how to act. Lock them in a solitary cell, with food restroom and maybe a little light and guess what there goes your problem with radical people, if they dont get Death Pentalty the least they could get is to actually be locked away from life, even if its jail life. Point blank, give those kids something to be sorry about.
When will we STOP concealing the punks names- juvenile or not! Release the names and charge them as adults! 15 and 16 year olds are NOT children. Children would not do this. Charge them as adults and throw the book at them!

The majority of the kids that attacked the Asian kid, were Asians also.
When they committed this act they obviously thought it through and preformed as an adult would. They should all be treated as adults. Adult behavior warrants adult consequences. To often we justify these kids actions, "Oh their home life". " Oh society","Oh Drugs", bull$hit! These kids will grow up to exploit the weak. They will grow up to raise kids that may have the same behaviors. Treat them as adults. Not once did they stop to think that they could have taken this young man's life. So, why should we be so concerned for theirs? A human life for some cash and a pair of sneakers? Really? And then you post it on You Tube as if its okay to devalue someone? They have no self value.
I agree with all the posts regarding the kids and their punishment. However, I have one question I haven't seen addressed...
Why does You Tube allow this crap to be downloaded? Isn't there some kind of policy? If not, there REALLY needs to be. This crap should NOT be able to be downloaded.....Shame on You Tube.
I hope this vicitim recovers from his injuries and these fool kids that did it to him get the highest form of the book thrown at them.
These punks need to have their face pics out there so other kids on their radar can be on the lookout for them. I'll bet these punks have done this before. I'll bet they are school bullies. They should be made an example of.
I am a mother of 3 boys and this kinda of stuff is just upsetting how can kids act this way towards another individual. These kids need a hard punisment send them to jail for a month. As for the parents they need to step up and do better parenting one thing to say Karma is a bitch kids what goes around comes around and when u do something bad to someone else it always comes back to ya. Little punks
a month? that's not hard punishment. 6 months to a year at least and a couple hundred hours community service so that when they get out they don't have time to do stupid stuff like this again.

I see nothing to show that man is evolving as anything other than an animal with remorse or compassion. Yet we are expected to pay more in taxes to continue to support these punks until someday, hopefully, street violence takes their lives too.
