Serial sperm donor reveals he's a virgin

A 36-year-old California computer specialist says he has fathered 14 children -- and is still a virgin.

Trent Arsenault confirmed to CNN’s Anderson Cooper on his syndicated television show that he has never had sex. He said he “committed 100 percent of my sexual energy for producing sperm for childless couples to have babies. So I don't have other activity outside of that.”

The Food and Drug Administration, however, wants to put an end to Arsenault’s activity.

FDA cracks down on sperm donor

Through his own website, Arsenault connects with Bay Area couples looking to conceive. The website is extensive and lists his medical records, including a list of sexually transmitted diseases he has been tested for, his diet, sperm count, and personality traits.

The federal government is not happy he sells his sperm directly, but Arsenault believes he is helping couples start families.

"It is helping people in need," Arsenault told NBC News affiliate KNTV in San Francisco in December. "I don't make any money, I don't charge people anything. And it's just helping childless couples have children."

The FDA has challenged Arsenault in court, and the battle has raged on for over a year. Now he is awaiting a formal hearing from the FDA.

Until the hearing, Arsenault will continue to donate his sperm.

He has received 20,000 emails since 2004 requesting his service.

Are you saying he is a wealthy liar? I wonder if that is under his personality list on his web site.

Folks:

I understand that on his own time, when Trent is not assisting the childless of the Bay Area, he is an avid member of Toast Masters International; he has undertaken a big project and is restoring the painted and varnished surfaces of a beautiful wooden sailing boat; and when not working on the boat he loves to go fishing around the San Francisco Bay.

Obviously this makes him a Master Debater; and Master Abrader; and a Master Baiter….which seems appropriate!

Cheers!

If the government can't make money off of it they make it illegal.

I'm thinking he should promote it as charitable donations and that way he could claim expenses on his tax return.

I guess they'll just have to legalize those loving, longterm commited relationships.

Why stop at his sons and daughters? Maybe his sons can accidently marry their brothers, once gay marriage is legal. Then we can tell the kids that just because Tim's parents are both guys and his family tree doesn't branch, he's still a normal, well adjusted kid.

Gay incest is the future. Oh joyz!

Mrs. Elizabeth -- Since he seems to be working in a specific area of the country, odds of incest are not at all unlikely. When it comes to that, the only useful thing the govt could do is to require that donor identification (using a universal code) be provided to the offspring. Other than that, what does the govt have to do with this? They're so busy meddling in personal business that they forget what they are supposed to do, namely, get the country back on its feet.

So they want to regulate this mans sperm but they wont regulate Monsanto's GMO's?

Dude you need to incorporate then you will have the entire republican party screaming for the FDA's head on a platter, oh thats right they can't do that because isnt the head of the FDA also the head of Monsanto? Well at least it use to be then I think they went to the EPA and then back to monsanto and then to a lobbying firm working for monsanto, but anyway, you need to incorporate then there are no rules and no regulations, you can con people out of their money, sell them poison and tell them it's "wholesome", you can gamble with other peoples pension funds and lose billions, hell you can do what ever you want if you are a corporation but if you are just an individual citizen and you want to sell some carrots out of your garden or in your case some sperm to spermless couples then you will be, pepper sprayed, beaten, arrested, stripped searched by the TSA and then sent to gitmo for some water boarding. Dont you know individuals have absolutely no rights in a free market society.

This story sounds so phony. Either someone in the FDA is a loony or the reporter left out some relevant facts. What's to regulate? Is he selling something advertised as sperm but contains no sperm? If so, why was that "minor" fact left out of the article.

You know what they say, one person's waste, er...trash, is another person's treasure.

... I totally don't follow your train of thought... people are annoyed that the government is trying to say this dude can't sell his sperm. No where does it say anything about limiting the number of kids a person can have. Just so you know, there are no laws that say a person can't have 15..or 30...or 75 kids. And if there were it wouldn't have anything to do with this article.

Where do you draw your conclusions from? If you're against the government saying what somebody can do with their sperm, you must be ok with people having herds of kids... What does one have to do with the other?

You don't have a dog? Man, you must hate dolphins.

Hey, I can do it too. Random accusations based on nonsense are kind of fun... Dolphin hater.

to all of you who's main concern on here is "accidental incest": if you had taken the time to read the other articles about this man, you would have learned that part of the deal is that he be kept up to date on the children that he helped father. that way, he can assure that none of his offspring will have to be faced with that type of situation. this is not a blind chance thing. this man has done his homework and is keeping things very professional. i would think one would have more chance of that happening by using an "anonymous" doner from a sperm bank.

My thought exactly. Stranger things have happened. The other issue is that he's messing with the gene pool by fathering so many children. What if he's got a genetic disorder, as yet undiscovered?

If he wants to be a father, what is wrong with the old fashioned way? Or is having to raise and support a child too much of an effort for him?

this is not a blind chance thing. this man has done his homework and is keeping things very professional.

The couples who get his sperm online might know a lot about him, but what does he know about them? This could be a terrible situation.

Has this guy interviewed, visited and vetted all the people who are getting his sperm to make certain they would be good parents?

    I don't think so.

For all he knows, his sperm could be going to con artists who would use his offspring in ways too horrible to contemplate.

You do realize he's a virgin? I checked out his website and he's relatively handsome, though he has a bit of a baby face, and it seems he takes care of himself pretty well. The virgin part was unknown to the public until now, though I'm sure he's probably at least mentioned it to the couples he's met, and given his intellect and career field - he'd be an excellent candidate as a sperm donor.

His services are free and far more personal then going to the sperm bank and checking out a portfolio. The only issue I'd worry about is if he's donating too much in the same area, there could be issues of incest between his children (which has been a known issue through very other popular donors in a 2011 article I read).

I don't see why anyone's hating on him, he's done nothing wrong.

      Excellent point.

I've come to the conclusion that it is not right to sell, donate or rent our reproductive parts and capabilities.

We should be considered legally and individually responsible for our own issue, for their support, education, and development.

Plenty of American kids are neglected by their parents. There are deadbeat parents of both sexes in this country who owe $ billions in unpaid child support.

World overpopulation is the primary source of many global issues.

Why instead don't childless couples work towards the goal of emptying every orphanage in this country? Let's take care of the children who already exist before we selfishly and haphazardly create more.

Most geniuses never got married and seem to love their work so much they cant be bothered to have relationships. i bet they never had sex either though they probably would never admit it. Sex is not a basic function of life since when have you heard of someone dying from not having sex. I think it might be smarter to have kids like that then at least you know your genes move on to the next generation and you dont have to go broke trying to raise a kid or more or even really have to feel the need to worry about how they are doing since really you are not in their life like their parents. There really is no difference from him and a donor except the people know for sure what they are getting how do you know these sperm hospitals are not just using the 1%'s sperm only. I would recommend he have sex at least once before death though its better then jerking it but at the same time its really the same thing if you have sex without trying to have a baby. Really there is also no reason he should not be able to charge money for it and I think it is a little crazy to not get paid for his service if he doesnt want to pay taxes have the people gift it to him. The govt and all the media wonders why the occupy movement is so strong maybe they should stop trying to @!$%# the little guys and realize they are gonna get whats coming to them if they keep up this bs of trying to keep pushing the real power of this country around.

So what happens if two of his fathered children unknowingly marry and have children? This is so not right......

That's what I was thinking, does he have a way of tracking his offspring?

"Once"... the article says he has 14 kids, so I'm guessing he does keep track. It's possible that his offspring will actually benefit from not being born from a sperm bank, since their parents may be able to communicate more easily. Sperm banks keep everything under lock and key for anonymity's sake. It takes a lot of hard work to find your donor, or siblings. I don't know how I feel about him doing this, but... it really is NOT the government's business.

So what happened after Adam and Eve? Weren't the odds considerably higher for breeding with a family member?

It's a way to safe sex. Religious folks should be applauding him for abstinence and being pro-life. The guy is not only saving conception, but also what comes before conception. I can see pro-lifers going out and collecting sperm and eggs as a pro-life project to make life. Why should they stop going back to conception?

Are you being sarcastic? Now that's getting ridiculous.

If his only contribution to the planet is "selling his sperm" and he's a 34 year old virgin, why would any rational, informed* couple want such an eccentric fathering their child?? Think about it: the child might end up as goofy as he is.

*The sperm bank whose allowing him to donate should be held liable for allowing his sperm to be used!

RBTatt, you must not have read the article. He is not donating to a sperm bank - he is an "independent" donor advertising on line directly.

One day, when some of those children grow up, they will come looking for their biological father. I wonder what he'll have to say to them, or how he'll react. I wonder if he's thought about that. I've thought about this issue years after I tried to donate sperm to a local hospital for the same purpose... I realized it was quite a big responsibility, even though I didn't think so at the time.

On the one hand, we have people borrowing sperm from strangers or making laboratory dishes pregnant (always with a surplus--the "extraneous" humans to be frozen in limbo, experimented on, or flushed) so they can have "their own" children.

On the other hand, we have children waiting to be born being butchered by medical whores, for no crime other than innocently being where they're inconvenient.

What's wrong with this picture? Doesn't an obvious solution present itself? That this solution is rejected shows nothing more than selfishness. Meanwhile, innocents die.
