MILWAUKEE - Some kids ask for Legos, others a train. But Dustin Kruse, 4, of New Berlin, Wisc., wanted something extra special this Christmas -- a toilet.
Dustin Kruse loves toilets so much that it prompted one local company to grant the child's wish for a top-of-line, double-flusher.
"They did it right after his fourth birthday. Delivered, installed it, everything," said Michele Kruse on Newsradio 620 WTMJ's Wisconsin's Morning News.
Kruse said her son is so fascinated with toilets that he wanted to ask Santa for a particular type of Kohler toilet, a dual-flush brand that allows people to either make a full or a half flush.
According to the Journal Sentinel in Milwaukee, Dustin encountered his $380 porcelain dream during a trip to the Kohler Design Center where he was able to touch the high-end model.
"He flushed it," Michele Kruse told the Journal Sentinel, "and he's like, 'Mom wouldn't that be great if I could have this? Could you imagine all of the things I could do?' And then he's looking up in the air and he's thinking. He's like, 'I am asking Santa Claus for this.'"
Dustin's mom said she didn't want to flush away her son's hopes, so she wrote to Kohler, explaining her son's interest -- and Kohler obliged.
Michele Kruse called her son's fascination a mere interest and far from an obsession.
As she put it: "It's fun."

It's great to be a big boy, isn't it Dustin? You are perfectly adorable.
A young Al Bundy in the making.
That's going to be one embarrassed kid when the parents dig out the video in his teanage years. ;)
I don't know, his last remark, "It's going to save water." That's very insightful for a little boy. Methinkgs we have maybe a scientist in the works? or an engineer? I'll settle for a wise Democratic that votes at every local, state and national election. Great job, Parents of this little boy.
This isn't news lol
SuperNova: Beg your pardon, but there's a lot in this article, maybe you should look closer. That little fellow showed no embarrassment for something as personal as bathroom activity, he looked, acted and talked confidently - no giggly idiocy one would expect in a toilet environment. He showed pure enjoyment at somethng so common as a toilet - that itself was refreshing. Parents: just from that short video I'd say, as a Mom of 4 and Grandma of 3, You both are doing a superb job with your little boy. He's Aok.
Flush away, Dustin!
At least you DO flush - I have a boy at home that doesn't!
Odd for a young guy to ask for a toilet..but its his life...Mom make sure you keep an eye on him..he might need to see a doctor too.
Because being an imaginative child means something must be wrong with him... If only more parents/people let kids be who they naturally are.
"kids be who they naturally are"? ...hey c'mon use a little logic. If that were true, parents wouldn't be needed at all except to keep the fridge full ... unless the kids "naturally are" able to forage for themselves .... enough with the fuzzy feely good stuff.
I don't think I'm the one in need of utilizing logic to be able to comprehend what I said and what I did not say.
e.g., don't push your interest in model airplanes on your kid if they prefer tractors. Don't treat your daughter like a princess if she's a tomboy.
So the boy likes toilets, let him enjoy his toilet. You never know who is going to be the next greatest mind or inventor. Being eccentric is a sign of creativity and potential.
So sorry I stepped on your liberal toes and voiced my conservative opinion ... please don't tell Pelosi what I did or I'll be under attack on CNN. And by the way: your warm and fuzzy mode of child rearing is what contributes to our entitled society ... "I was never allowed to be what I can be, so it's not my fault I do these bad things". KIDS DO NOT AND CANNOT MAKE WISE DECISIONS ... WISDOM COMES FROM YEARS OF EXPERIENCE!!!!!!!!!!! The airplane and princess thing is something that I agree with you on, PLAYING WITH TOILETS IS NOT LOGICAL (note playing)
Look John and Bump, I think this was just a misunderstanding of words. I agree with you that parents need to help monitor and raise their children. But honestly, that isn't really much of an excuse for insulting liberals. I AM A LIBERAL, and frankly I AGREED WITH YOU! The moral of the story is just to not make generalizations. Look, I was interested in Engineering as a kid and so my parents got me stuff that fit with that theme. If the kid is interested in Toilets and wants to be a plumber someday, then I don't think its wrong to curb the kids enthusiasm about the subject. Sure its a little bit odd, but that doesn't mean they're bad parents. It wasn't even the kid's decision, he just clearly showed an interest in something and his parents supported the interest. I'm an Engineer today, there is nobody who thinks more logically then the people I work with, and frankly while playing with toilets isn't exactly logical, fueling a child's interest in a subject is.
Ok rant over, now can we stop bashing liberals and conservatives and get back on topic?
I'm NOT a liberal, my politics (and I'm sure, yours) are far too complex to define to a political party.
I think John misunderstands that I'm not talking about if a kid behaves or misbehaves, I'm talking about freedom of self-expression which isn't always about good or bad behavior (I'm not going to allow my child to color on the walls because I think he's expressing his innate artistic talent, but I will let him decide if he wants to play with a doll or a car).
Any given day I can read stories about death, destruction, depression, and depravity. This sweet little boy has an unusual interest in toilets and while it's odd, I don't think he needs a doctor as Mike277 suggested above. I read a similar story about a little boy who was fascinated by vacuum cleaners. It's also pretty great that Dustin has such understanding and patient parents!
Flush on, Dustin!
I'd say at that age such an interest might seem odd but is far from unusual. It seems little boys like stuff like that, stuff with some kind of a function. I used to be fascinated with the conveyor belts at the airport.
I thought phonebooks were a good read. Now I have to explain what a phonebook is.
papag: There were a series of videos one enterprising dad marketed many years ago that just showed big trucks, tractors, lawn mowers, dump trucks, etc. He found his very young son mesmerized in front of the window one day watching a big earth mover. I understand he was very successful with his videos...all because he understood that what fascinated his own son would likely fascinate other boys too. BTW, my son loved electric fans....thankfully, he still has all his fingers!
peanutGalleryTheatre: We still get a phone book dropped off at the front door every year. It's the little 6" version and the font is so tiny that it's hard to read. What isn't hard is the decision to walk that tiny phone book directly from the front door around to the side yard and straight into the recyling bin! As a kid, it was fun to find our family's listing in the phone book and count how many people shared our name. It was useful to search for businesses in the area too. Those days are gone and Google lives on!
"Imagine all the things I could do"?? I can only think of 2 things. After that, better have a plumber on speed dial.
"Imagine all the things I could do"?
I think its called "Do Do" right?
You have to love a kid with such a fascination at such a young age. Heck when I was his age I was afraid of toilet! Nothing I ever put in the darn thing ever came back, (it ate it I figured) lol... Boy did I flush a lot of things down our poor toilet back then, until i got caught! Mom sure was pissed. (pun) lol.
Three, laughing at the porceline god.
There are no other comments so im first. A poop with this toilet must hurt, lol. Just a little rap
Maybe this kid will be inspired to become an engineer! Who knows?
LOL this is cute! Maybe he'll grow up and invent something even better than the toilet! Way to encourage him parents!
Have there been any big advances in toilet paper?
Well... just wait til he discovers bidets...
My kid is obsessed with sweeping, mopping, vacuuming and dusting at four years old hes getting pretty good at it! I just wonder if it will last. None of my other kids did this and I have wondered if it is an early warning of OCD. I can think of worse things to be obsessed about!
Hydraulic Engineer
I wonder if I wrote to Porsche and said the same thing- if they would "install" a new car for me at my home too!
hmmm...
Ok, next toilet I buy, will be a Kohler. Dustin sold me on it, and Kohler for their good deed.
Hey Michele --
Ask Dustin what are some of the things he can think to do. I'm dying of curiosity here.
Cute kid. Nice story.
I'm a little pissy about how crappy this story turned out to be (ok, I just wanted to poop...pop that out)
Ah...obviously a gifted child: a future general contractor or engineer.
Wow, maybe this kid will end up being the next Thomas Crapper!
I thought it was Sir Thomas Crapper.
With his fetish about toilets I would wash his hands thoroughly when he says he's been playing with Playdo ! He might want to keep this little side of behavior to himself, when he starts kindergarden. Oh I forgot his folks put the story on the internet. Well, with his love of toilets maybe he won't mind swirlies ! Maybe for Old Times Day they can get him an outhouse. You know how collectors all love antiques.Which nickname do you think he'll get stuck with ? Colonel Urinel, the Toilet Tot, the Poddy Animal, or my favorite The Kohler Kid ?
I thought that youtube video was a joke...
Bizarre kid.., but I guess it takes all kinds to make the world.
Dustin is awesome! I'd be proud to have a son or daughter like him someday.
Soooo, what can you do with a toilet other than go to the bathroom or clog it with toys and TP? He must have some great imagination.
Perhaps I don't think the duel flush toilets are fun because we have them at the building I work in. I imagine to a 4 year old it would be fun.
Go Mr Joe Kohler the sweetest news this side of the Mississippi
My nephew had a fascination with vacuum cleaners! I wonder what it is that catches their attention?
That seems to be a normal thing for four year olds to want to flush the toilet. And who wouldn't want a double flusher? way to go kid
