Umar Abdumutallab, the man who tried to blow up an airplane on Christmas day two years ago, has been sentenced in a federal courtroom in Detroit. NBC's Pete Williams reports.
DETROIT -- Nigerian Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, who tried to blow up a Detroit-bound international flight with and underwear bomb on Christmas Day 2009 on behalf of al-Qaida, was sentenced to life in prison without parole Thursday.
The hearing before federal Judge Nancy Edmunds was an open platform for Abdulmutallab and passengers and crew of Northwest Airlines Flight 253 who wanted to speak.
Abdulmutallab, 25, the son of a wealthy Nigerian banker, pleaded guilty in October and admitted he was on a suicide mission for al-Qaida when he tried to detonate explosive chemicals hidden in his underwear minutes before the plane landed at Detroit Metropolitan Airport.

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab
In his court statement Thursday, according to NBC station WDIV of Detroit, Abdulmutallab praised Allah and ranted that his life and the life of Muslims has changed. He said al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden and other terrorists the government says were killed are alive.
He called his sentencing hearing a day of victory and claimed U.S. attorneys on his case intentionally misquoted him and mishandled his case "to achieve their Hebrew goals." He said the Jews need to be "ripped out of Palestine … the capital of the Muslim world."
Assistant U.S. Attorney Cathleen Corken played an FBI video to demonstrate the destructive force of explosives similar to those Abdulmutallab carried. A brief but intense flame was seen in slow motion when the explosives were detonated in an outdoor field on a sheet of aluminum sitting on two wooden sawhorses.
RAW VIDEO: The Justice Department has released video of FBI tests showing the potential explosive force equivalent to the underwear bomb device Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab attempted to detonate aboard Northwest Airlines Flight 253 on Christmas Day 2009.
Edmunds, in sentencing Abdulmutallab to multiple life sentences, said, “The defendant has never expressed doubt or regret or remorse about his mission,” The Detroit Free Press reported. “To the contrary, he sees that mission as divinely inspired and a continuing mission.”
As Edmunds said the sentence was "just punishment" for what he had done, Abdulmutallab sat quietly with his hands folded under his chin and did not show any reaction.
Inside the courtroom: Updates from NBC station WDIV
The government said Abdulmutallab first performed a ritual in the airplane lavatory — brushing his teeth and perfuming himself — and returned to his seat. The device didn't work as planned, but still produced flame, smoke and panic in the cabin.
In a defiant speech as he pleaded guilty in October, Abdulmutallab said he was carrying a "blessed weapon" to avenge Muslims who have been killed or poorly treated around the world. He admitted he was inspired by Anwar al-Awlaki, a radical American-born cleric and leading al-Qaida figure in Yemen who was killed by a U.S. drone strike last fall.
"The Quran obliges every able Muslim to participate in jihad and fight in the way of Allah those who fight you, and kill them wherever you find them ... an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth," Abdulmutallab said.
Anthony Chambers, an attorney appointed to assist Abdulmutallab, had urged Edmunds to declare that a mandatory life sentence is unconstitutional, claiming it is a cruel punishment in a case where no one but Abdulmutallab was physically hurt. His groin was badly burned.
The government said that is not the threshold.
"Unsuccessful terrorist attacks still engender fear in the broader public, which, after all, is one of their main objectives," prosecutors said in a court filing Wednesday. "In addition, the enormous cost of the augmented security measures adopted as a direct result of defendant's unsuccessful terrorist attack are borne by the American public at large in both increased cost, inconvenience and wasted time at airports."
Among four passengers and a crew member who testified, WDIV reported, was Kurt Haskell, a lawyer who was traveling with his wife, Lori. Haskell, reiterating charges in his blog, said the government conspired with Abdulmutallab to carry a defective bomb onto the plane to give the government a reason to install full-body scanners at airports.
The Associated Press reported that passenger Shama Chopra, 56, of Montreal, also plans to speak in court. She ran unsuccessfully for the Canadian Parliament in 2011, a race she couldn't have imagined joining years ago.
"I don't have to feel weak," Chopra said Wednesday. "I don't have to be scared of anything. God has given me a second chance to live."

why give him life in prison when he was about to kill everyone on board that plane?? it should be an eye for an eye a tooth for a tooth....thats what they do in their own friggin country.....
Another excellent argument for "farming out" out all our terrorist trials to China.........for a one day trial followed by 15 minute wait for an instant one man firing squad execution out back!
You know that may be what they do in his own country but aren't we supposed to be more civilized and better people? Unless you want us to be like all those "other" countries?
I mean so many proudly tout how great it is here in the USA then they say we should be just like the other guys. Yeah that makes sense.
Well... remember, it's only *life in prison* until you're dead. I doubt he'll have to serve very long.
An Al Queda terrorist in an American prison....just how long do you think he will live?
cgtrav, NOT in this case.
so many political incorrect people on the vine; we must embrace all faiths, we must learn why they do not like us, 9 it could be how we wear our clothes); we must reach out and bring them into the fold, we should not judge them by our standards; this was a well educated , Nigerian Muslim from a wealthy family, who believes it is a good thing to kill Americans, we must have done something wrong, it must be our fault, why can't we all just get along.(They are gonging to kill us, unless we kill them first).
Now we get to pay his room and board + meals for life...F that!!
Can't we just fly over Nigeria and throw him out of a plane.
Here's your trash back!!
May your knees be bleeding, lips hurting and where the sun don`t shine be sore for life! And learn how too say good morning Mr Bubba politely! Enjoy!
Saxon,
They don't like us because we exist. Convert or die. That's it. Nothing else. No argument.
I caught your sarcasm a little late.
djodjo--
Bingo! Totally agree. Should be beheaded, at the least.........
Why should we TAXPAYERS have to pay the cost of feeding him, housing him, etc.?????? We supposedly have severe budget problems in this country--why not save billions and just kill him off? There are those who would do it for free, you know.....I'd be one of them....
Jean,
We're better than the savages who behead. We're the civilized ones. Let the prison gangs use him as currency for a few decades.
Well, we would be fundamentally confused, wouldn't we, if we adopted everybody else's justice system? Thank goodness we have Due Process in our country, so he gets life in the hole. Oh, and he also gets his groin burns, which he has no one but himself to thank for and a long, long time to think about what he could have been doing with that part of his body instead of pursuing violence.
@djodjjo, the fact that they would do it their country and we wouldn't is what makes us better than them. It just sickens me to hear "Americans" talk about vigilante justice as if they're still living in a 3rd-world nation. That makes you just as bad as they are.
I'll give it two years and he'll be awarded a new laptop for good behavior!
Why did this man deserve due process, but I as an American citizen do not?
If you don't like the sentence, the lobby your congressman to have the laws changed. Whining about it here isn't going to do any good.
Not that he'll need it, but will he have underwear rights in jail?
(Quote: it should be an eye for an eye a tooth for a tooth....thats what they do in their own friggin country....)
.
If their forms of justice are so much better than ours, perhaps you should be living there. Or maybe sharia would be a good fit here?
.
I look forward to reading his Jail House originated e-mails in my in-box, telling me that I've won a Million Bucks~all he needs is my SS, MMN & Checking Acc #
Put him in the general population. He'll make headlines again.
Saxon...screw that.....a 50 cent bullet for this pant's full fool. are you his daddy?
@American Socialist
LMAO Here's your trash back!!! Too funny and true.
I for one would not want his life to end so quickly via a death penalty.
It is great that he has been sentenced to life in prison. now the prison guards and the inmates can work on getting the delusions of islamic grandeur outta his system via a baton up his butthole.
"Up against the bars with yo pants on the ground."
"Exposed and scarred up ass with yo pants on the ground."
"Yellin' out for Ala with yo pants on the ground."
"Meet yo cellmate Bubba with yo pants on the ground."
Seems like the appropriate sentence to me. I see no reason to reduce his sentence because he is incompetent. On the other hand, this guy wanted to die, for the glory of Allah and all those virgins, presumably. Why grant his wish?
the issue I have with this is that we need to get ready for more of these types of thing, IMO. He now gets life in prison, but compared to his normal living conditions in Nigeria, our Prison is the equivalent of the Waldorf Astoria. A roof over his head, 3 meals a day, Showers, fresh linens, free medical and dental; compared to what he would have in his home country; the accommodations are not too bad considering.
There may be more of his friends that try something because they have nothing to loose. his friends may be lining up for their life sentence.
American Socialist LMAO!!!! Way too funny. I agree.
Perhaps the US government should pay a monthly fee to the Nigerians to keep this POS in one of THEIR jails for life - the accommodations will be culturally appropriate and suitably miserable.
And he's only 25..damm he's going to be someones B*TCH for a very very long time.. for a carton of cigarettes!
Enjoy your time in the USA pal..LMAO!
Chris, he better brush those teeth very, very well three times a day. Life sentence is a long time. He may get free dental in hacksaw hotel, but I doubt they will spend too much time on cleanings and on fillings. Otherwise, he will be a toothless terrorist without a "bite" in no time!
Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was wearing explosives in his underwear. He detonated the explosives which caught fire and burnt his legs and his groin.
The passengers in the jet took pity on him and put the fire out.
If he ever gets out he will just do something just as evil as before.
@justBidenmytime
You realize that there is a HUGE Muslim inmate population, right? Malcolm X anyone?
This guy will find a nice niche of similarly minded radical converts/faithful that will protect him behind bars. We'll be caring for this POS for a long time to come...
My favorite part though?
Haha! His "blessed weapon" burned the living sh*t out of his groin. What do you think Allah was saying, Umar? That "blessed weapon" sure sounds like a curse to me: permanent disfigurement and life-sentence in a federal prison, no "infidels" injured nor even wounded and the stupidity of Islamic Radicals on full display for the world. You hurt your cause more than you helped it, Umar-- so just what do you think Allah's divine message was, hmm?
To Chester12: I missed the part were it cost millions to convict. Maybe you have more info than is in the article. But to answer your question succinctly, because that is how we rock in the good ol' U.S. of A. Innocent until proven guilty - or in this case innocent until pleading guilty, which means there was no trial, just a sentencing hearing.
On a semirelated note: they should tack on another life sentence just for inconveniencing the American public at the airport. Same for the other moron for having to take our shoes off.
And all you folks saying: "Oh, let's just send him to a Nigerian prison, let him rot there."
Uh, have you seen the news?
Attackers blast gates of Nigeria prison, free 119
Sounds like a bad idea...
Hope he gets to wear his panties to jail...
Chris, You think everyone form Nigeria lives poorly? His father is a wealthy businessman, described as one of the wealthiest men in Africa. The crotch bomber did not live in poverty.
His cellmates will check his underwear regularly for life .... "LOL"
I love this country to bits, but I still would have preferred they walk him out behind the courthouse after his sentencing and put a bullet in his head.
underwear bomber...must have been a stink bomb
That was funny Big Ben.
His name is Abdul mut a llab. Maybe the judge didn't give him the death penalty because she loves dogs.
Unless I am mistaken a person can only get the death penalty if they actually cause death to a person. Just the same justification that was given why child molesters can't get the death penalty.
Well I agree, just further waste of tax money. In my opinion is this guy a candidate to be executed? Absolutely. Should he be? I think yes there too; his intent was to kill a plane full of innocent people including himself, he made his bed and now he should sleep in it. Whatever the case the one thing we can't do is allow a blood lust to blind us. No be-headings, beating to death, ect. As much as we want to do that we need to stay above that as much as possible, and hopefully in some way that will be the difference. I agree a bullet to the head may not be the least blood lusting option either but better than others and it is quick and cheap. The fact that the trial and convection went on as long as it did is just a testament to the joke our legal system has become. But whatever the case he got his trial and now it is time to end him and go on. I've said before, someday maybe we can move beyond executions but for the time being and foreseeable future I see no other option as we have not evolved enough as a race and society to get beyond it. Sometimes people do things and/or are broken and there is nothing you can do it about it but to remove them from society completely. Also I will add at the end of the day at least no one did get killed and it sounds like he has a nice reminder to go along with what he thought was a worthwhile cause and the failure he was.
It is time
Poor Kurt Haskell deserves an honorable mention...underwear bomber was in cahoots with the American Gov't to get full body scanners installed. Only thing I can figure is the anger stage of PTSD...he needs more help.
It is nice to think that justice will be served by other criminals, it will not. He will probably end up at the Federal Supermax in Colorado.
Everybody there is in solitary and they spend at least 23 hours a day locked in their little box alone. The only torture he will receive will be mental. He will be safe, he will get medical care when he is sick and he can sit and read his holy hate book and pray all day. That is what happens when you attempt to attack a civilized society. They treat you better than you would treat them and they keep you from ever being able to commit your crime.
That being said, I am not that civilized. I would shoot him in the head myself if they need a trigger man.
I don't think so. I suspect he's about to become someone else's "laptop"!
I would rather not incur the costs associated with keeping this person alive. Why didn't he get the death penalty? Does his intent not qualify for an Attempted Murder in the First Degree charge and the related sentence?
These are the stupid things we spend money on. There is no question of this person's guilt; clearly this person cannot be rehabilitated. Therefore, the only logical approach to sentencing should be the death penalty. The convict will, in essence, get what he wanted, to be dead and we will be rid of him for the cost of the injection.
Think of the embarrassment his wealthy family would be spared if he was no longer among the living.
This man hesitated because there was a chance he wouldn't be killed by us. Do you really want to take that hesitation away from the next terrorist? Revenge isn't worth more innocent lives.
BRAVO to the US Court System!
They convicted him of the worst that could be done within the AMERICAN SYSTEM!
He will not see the outside of a prison in his life time, Justice served!!!!!!!
Thank God for your punishment, you silly underwear bomber.
I wish they had put his "hotpants" on him, and exploded them. He will see the outside of prison, and the way we are going in this country, he may even become a hero.
Toasty, where did you get the idea he hesitated about anything from? He blew his panties up on the plane, he just smoked his own sausage, thank god. Your far-left ridiculous liberal spin touches everything you post. Maybe he would have "hesitated" as you say, if he knew he might be thrown off the plane in flight. He is just another spoiled, misguided, rich liberal kid himself. May he rot in prison.
He deserves nomination to Darwin award. Even if he somehow gets out of prison, he will not be able to pass his genes to posterity because he burned off the means of doing so. Could be one of the rare cases of getting the award while still alive.
;-)
He's going to be very popular in prison. I wonder how many packs of cigarettes he'll go for?
PC, how can he be liberal...he is willing to die for his religion. In your mind, aren't all liberals atheists?
I take it this is the first time you've heard of the underwear bomber, PC?
Any man who would wear such underwear deserves to serve some jail time. Seeing the picture gave me an ugly perspective on ladies panties. Hope it's temporary. I loved looking at ladies pretty little panties, while on the ladies. This lasts more than a few hours I'll consider suing that court for releasing the image of that travesty. I might be traumatized! I hope no thin skinned prudes are offended by my displeasured expression. If so, I suggest you get a life!
katyhan587 your classmates ex-wife new boyfriend...said he was smoken that crack...she paid him $7174...
Who are we kidding they we put him in PC with 24 7 guards around the clock and we the tax payers will pay for it. until some good man guts him like the pig he is.I agree they should of took him out and put a bullet where he hid the explosive so he can bleed to death.Thats the message we send back to the others only then they will think twice before trying it again
Wouldn't it have been great if everyone in the court room had burst out laughing when he said that drivel?
According to an article in Wikkipedia, 80% of the inmates that find "faith" in prision convert to Islam. The majority are african-Americans. Here we go Abdubutallah a new Iman for life in prision.
Nobody in prison will have to worry about a fried noodle in the shower. I wonder if they will put him in general population or will we have to pay for special accommodations? I think we should finish what he started take him up to 30,000 ft light him up and toss him out, over Nigeria. toasty can go with him to give comfort and moral support. there is some justice thou, he gets reminded of his stupidity every time he pees I hope it hurts for life, or did the doctors have to turn him into a virgin. maybe Allah will give him to Osama. was there a video of him cooking his sausage on the flight?
I hope this rat bastard as fun in Jail. Maybe he will be someones girlfriend. I hope the prison guards line his food bowls with pork grease.
Abdullah's wife could have gotten him Off. She KNOWS he never had The "blessed weapon" in his pants. Still and all, 300 counts of attempted murder is a tough one to beat. So Long @$$H0lE.....
I like the throw him out the plane IDEA, I bet he dies before he hits the ground from sheer fright, his heart would blow up in his chest it would be beating so fast .....
I think U.S. foreign policy (i.e. unconditional support for Israel, invading muslim countries, etc) is to a large extent responsible for Islamic extremism. Israel has been involved in this, too (scroll down to bottom of my post). Here's some history to illustrate what I mean:
How the U.S. fought against democracy in Iran and helped create modern Islamic extremism.
1953 Iranian coup d'état
The 1953 Iranian coup d'état (known in Iran as the 28 Mordad coup[3]) was the overthrow of the democratically elected government of Iranian Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh on 19 August 1953, orchestrated by the intelligence agencies of the United Kingdom and the United States under the name TPAJAX Project.[4] The coup saw the transition of Mohammad-RezÄ ShÄh Pahlavi from a constitutional monarch to an authoritarian one who relied heavily on United States support to hold on to power until his own overthrow in February 1979.[5]

1957-1970
U.S. helps establish the deadly Iranian secret police, the SAVAK, who tortured and murdered opponents of their puppet the Shah
(General "Stormin' Norman" Schwartzkoff's father helped train the Savak.)
After removing the populist regime of Mohammad Mosaddeq (which was originally focused on nationalizing Iran's oil industry but also set out to weaken the Shah's power) from power on 19 August 1953, in a coup, the monarch, Mohammad Reza Shah, established an intelligence service with police powers. The Shah's goal was[7] to strengthen his regime by placing political opponents under surveillance and repress dissident movements….
….In March 1955, the Army colonel was "replaced with a more permanent team of five career CIA officers, including specialists in covert operations, intelligence analysis, and counterintelligence, including Major General Herbert Norman Schwarzkopf who "trained virtually all of the first generation of SAVAK personnel." In 1956 this agency was reorganized and given the name Sazeman-e Ettela'at va Amniyat-e Keshvar (SAVAK).[9] These in turn were replaced by SAVAK's own instructors in 1965.[10][11] Chief CIA Iran analyst Jesse Leaf in an interview on 6th Jan. 1979 stated that the CIA taught Nazi torture techniques to SAVAK.[12][13]
SAVAK had the power to censor the media, screen applicants for government jobs, "and according to reliable Western source,[14] use all means necessary, including torture, to hunt down dissidents". [15] The CIA provided SAVAK with lists of Communists to torture and murder. These lists originated with KGB defectors working for the CIA….

Afghanistan 1980's-Support for the Mujahideen
U.S. Security Chief
Brzezinski (National Security Advisor to President Jimmy Carter from 1977 to 1981)….. confirms what opponents have charged: that the US began covert sponsorship of Muslim extremists five months *before* the Soviets invaded Afghanistan. He says that after President Carter authorized the covert action:
"I explained to the president that this support would in my opinion lead to a military intervention by the Soviets."
"…The mujahideen consisted of at least seven factions, who often fought amongst themselves in their battle for territory and control of the opium trade. To hurt the Russians, the U.S. deliberately chose to give the most support to the most extreme groups. A disproportionate share of U.S. arms went to Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, "a particularly fanatical fundamentalist and woman-hater."' According to journalist Tim Weiner, " [Hekmatyar's] followers first gained attention by throwing acid in the faces of women who refused to wear the veil. CIA and State Department officials I have spoken with call him 'scary,' 'vicious,' 'a fascist,' 'definite dictatorship material."…"

Wikipedia:
On July 3, 1979, United States President Jimmy Carter signed the first directive for secret aid to the opponents of the pro-Soviet regime in Kabul.[23] The aim of the U.S. was to drag the Soviet Union into the "Afghan trap" as U.S. National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski termed it.[dubio

"To watch the courageous Afghan freedom fighters battle modern arsenals with simple hand-held weapons is an inspiration to those who love freedom."
— U.S. President Ronald Reagan, March 21, 1983 [38]
The mujahideen were significantly financed, armed and trained by the United States [Central Intelligence Agency] (CIA) during the administrations of Jimmy Carter[39] and Ronald Reagan, and also by Saudi Arabia, Pakistan under Zia-ul-Haq, Iran, the People's Republic of China and several Western European countries. Pakistan's secret service, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), was used as an intermediary for most of these activities to disguise the sources of support for the resistance. One of the CIA's longest and most expensive covert operations was the supplying of billions of dollars in arms to the Afghan mujahideen militants. The arms included Stinger missiles, shoulder-fired, antiaircraft weapons that they used against Soviet helicopters and that later were in circulation among terrorists who have fired such weapons at commercial airliners. Between $3–$20 billion in U.S. funds were funneled into the country to train and equip troops with weapons, including Stinger surface-to-air missiles.[40][41] Some media reports claim up to $40 billion.[42]
Osama bin Laden was allegedly among the recipients of U.S. arms,[43] although this view has been disputed.[44][45][46][47]
Under Reagan, U.S. support for the mujahideen evolved into an official U.S. foreign policy, known as the Reagan Doctrine, which included U.S. support for anti-Soviet movements in Afghanistan, Angola, Nicaragua, and elsewhere.[48] Ronald Reagan praised mujahideen as "freedom fighters".
Hekmatyar
More than a half billion dollars of U.S. funding through Pakistan went to the Hizb party led by Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, making Hekmatyar the recipient of the highest percentage of covert American funding through the Pakistani Inter-Services Intelligence.[60] Hekmatyar had "almost no grassroots support and no military base inside Afghanistan."[61] Hekmatyar also received the lion's share of aid from Saudi Arabia.[62] The CIA allegedly also gave Hekmatyar immunity for his illegal drug trade activities.[63]
The main base station of mujahideen in Pakistan was the town Badaber, 24 km from Peshawar. The base served as a concentration camp for Soviet and DRA P.O.W.s as well. In 1985, a prisoner rebellion destroyed the base, but the incident was concealed by the Pakistani and Soviet governments until the dissolution of the USSR.
Mujahideen forces caused serious casualties to the Soviet forces, and made the war very costly for the Soviet Union. Thus in 1989, the Soviet Union withdrew its forces from Afghanistan. Many districts and cities then fell to the mujahideen; in 1992 the DRA's last president, Mohammad Najibullah, was overthrown.
However, the mujahideen did not establish a united government, and many of the larger mujahideen groups began to fight each other over power in Kabul. After several years of devastating fighting, a village mullah named Mohammed Omar organized a new armed movement with the backing of Pakistan. This movement became known as the Taliban ("students" in Arabic), referring to the Saudi-backed religious schools known for producing extremism. Veteran mujahideen were confronted by this radical splinter group in 1996.

Post-Soviet international fighters

By 1996, with backing from the Pakistani ISI, Pakistani Armed Forces, and al-Qaeda, the Taliban had largely defeated the militias and controlled most of the country. The opposition factions allied themselves together again and became known as the Northern Alliance. In 2001, with U.S.-NATO intervention, the Taliban were ousted from power and a new Afghan government was formed. Many of the former mujahideen gradually were incorporated into the new Afghan National Army and Afghan National Police.
At present the term "mujahideen" is sometimes used to describe insurgents groups (including Taliban and al-Qaeda) who are fighting NATO troops and the Military of Afghanistan and Pakistan.
From Wall Street Journal:
How Israel Helped to Spawn Hamas
"Hamas, to my great regret, is Israel's creation," says Mr. Cohen, a Tunisian-born Jew who worked in Gaza for more than two decades. Responsible for religious affairs in the region until 1994, Mr. Cohen watched the Islamist movement take shape, muscle aside secular Palestinian rivals and then morph into what is today Hamas, a militant group that is sworn to Israel's destruction.
Instead of trying to curb Gaza's Islamists from the outset, says Mr. Cohen, Israel for years tolerated and, in some cases, encouraged them as a counterweight to the secular nationalists of the Palestine Liberation Organization and its dominant faction, Yasser Arafat's Fatah.
Israel's experience echoes that of the U.S., which, during the Cold War, looked to Islamists as a useful ally against communism. Anti-Soviet forces backed by America after Moscow's 1979 invasion of Afghanistan later mutated into al Qaeda.
At stake is the future of what used to be the British Mandate of Palestine, the biblical lands now comprising Israel and the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and Gaza. Since 1948, when the state of Israel was established, Israelis and Palestinians have each asserted claims over the same territory.

Once this Numnuts goes to prison he won't be needing any underwear because when the rest of the inmates get a hold of him, they'll make his ass explode.
Arch, you think you could copy and paste about another 20 pages of crap nobody cares about but you. You could have posted web addresses and made it a lot less boring and not taken up so much space. I almost fell asleep trying to read it. Guess I'll go to bed now. That was better than a sleeping pill.
Im not really happy this piece of crap gets to stay alive while we pay for it but hopefully he gets shoved into a Detroit prison. Hopefully the prisoners will show him some American hospitality. Lets see If Allah will protect his butt hole there.
So many comments, but so little of value.
Life in prison without parole is the perfect sentence for this guy. He is a clear danger to innocent people everywhere, so he can never be released. But as long as he is locked up, he poses no threat. Abdulmutallab will never be any kind of a leader or able to pervert others with his vile way of thinking.
Better to let him rot, unmolested, in jail for the rest of his life. If he's LUCKY, he will repent of his evil ways before he dies, because the court's sentence is not the last Judgement he will face. Hopefully, the prison system has some good chaplains who can help set this idiot straight.
As few of you noticed, the American justice system works quite well, and has proven itself ready and able to deal with the threat of terrorists, just as it has been for the past 225 years. If Guantanamo prisoners are set free, and some of them return to a life of terror and murder, which system is better at doling out justice and protecting the American people, and more importantly, the deals on which our great nation was founded?
As to some of the comments posted above:
'An al Qaeda prisoner in an American jail!' There is no more appropriate place for such a person.
'Jail is like the Waldorf Astoria compared to Nigeria!' Abdulmutallab's father is a rich banker. His home in Nigeria is likely much more like the Waldorf Astoria's than yours.
'Who wants to pay for Abdulmutallab to be in jail?!' A better question is, "who doesn't, and would you rather he go free?" Next time you're complaining about how much you pay for Abdulmutallab's breakfast, calculate exactly how much that breakfast costs, exactly what proportion of that cost YOU personally pay, realize that rounded off to the nearest penny the number is ZERO, and apply for a refund. I am personally willing to refund your entire cost, provided you first pay me the application fee of $1,000.
A lot of people are fantasizing about sexual acts with Abdulmutallab. You know that's weird, right?
I wonder if he now qualifies for a sex-change operation while in prison. I wouldn't mind it if it's at taxpayers' cost. The most expensive part has already been done by him. All he needs are kazongas and some electrolysis.
Either way.....it's the loooooooooong goodbye for you......
Should not have to make the tax payers pay for his stay put a bullet between the eyes of this worthless piece of chit.
You have a point maybe the federal Prison system should send Nigeria a bill for his expenses.
You can just go ahead and deduct that bill from the aid Nigeria will be receiving next year. No big deal...
So now countries are responsible for what its citizens do? What if other countries started sending us bills for our citizens in their prisons?
Why waste our tax payers money..... 1 bullet thats all it will take!
You mean like Iran and N. Korea? If you don't remember, we had to pay to get those people out of there...
Hope he can wear his panties there...

that's not the same as them sending us bills for keeping them in jail, and I don't ever remember us "paying" anything for their release. Do you have a dollar amount?
Rad , I believe we had to pay 1/2 million for (Bail) to get the young lady released b4 her 2 friends were released for hiking(?) and crossed the unmarked boarder of Iran. I may be wrong about the amount , It may have been 1 million but none the less they called it bail money.
Into the sweet darkness he goes. Just don't bend over in the shower.
How fitting it would be..."underwear bomber" gets its in the showers.
And he thinks his taint is burned up now! Ha! Give it a week of hokey pokey and see how that works for ya!
Put him back in his munsingwear and detonate this POS.
Usually I am not a fan of life in prison.. for the worst of the worst criminals I prefer the death penalty. But, I think this is absolutely poetic justice....life in prison and a deformed lap for a failed suicide bomber. He can live every day knowing that he failed at the biggest thing he ever tried.
Especially at the expense to taxpayer's of about $30,000 a year to rent a cell with all the related room and board expenses......a bullet costs about a quarter.............
You forget keeping a prisoner on death row. That costs the feds about 8 times more. If this POS lives another 60 years, it will still cost less to keep him in prison than it would for the average time a prisoner spends on death row. All that due process tends to get in the way of a good ol' fashioned 17th century firing squad.
Jus, I think thats up to about 43 grand a year.
he didn't kill anyone, he's not a threat to the general public (and being an al quieda member in an american prison i doubt he'll try anything) he gets life.
they ought to make him wear a pair of underwear over his head too.
And feed him pork for every meal!
Folks, read this...
The judge sentenced him to life in a room with no windows and very little light from one light bulb for the rest of his life with out the possibility of ever seeing the light of day with out anything to do except do nothing.
Why bother? More wasted tax payer dollars. Put a bomb in his underwear and ignite it, end of story. I will do it, if you'd like!
Sounds like something Saddam would have done. Wait a minute, he did do that.
Where are all of these people saying we couldn't try these people in civilian courts?? It seems like we are getting a pretty good conviction rate and a good punishment also. Let's hear the whining.
casy anthony...
...O.J. simpson
lol, just dont have trials in fla or CA
Casey Anthony and OJ Simpson aren't terrorists.
In this case, he deserved to be tried in a civilian court. He was on a civilian aircraft, over US territory.
The scum captured on battlefields, or overseas deserve no less than military tribunals.
but, so were the 9/11 hijackers and conspirators...yes ?
they got military trials, yes ?
what is different about this guy ?
Praggmattic, .... says WHO???
Keck, the 9/11 hijackers didn't get trials. The burnt up in the buildings.
keck: The 9/11 hijackers all dies when the planes crashed into buildings and/or the ground, along with a few thousand innocents. To the best of my knowledge no conspirator to that even was ever arrested on American soil. I could be wrong, but I believe they were all caught in the ME or Afganistan; some by friendly foreign nations. This individual was arrested by civilian police after teh plane landed. He was tried appropriately, though I don't agree with the sentence.
He was so incompetent that I think he only committed a misdemeanor. He should have only been given 11 months 29 days for each count, of course there were 300+ people on the plane and the sentences should run consecutive... :)
Actually most died on 9/11. Moussawi (sp?), who chickened out, actually did get a civilian trial AND was convicted.
"Actually" five of the supposed "hijackers" are alive and well in their home countries. The FBI list must have gotten something wrong.
Why doesn't someone sneak in a new pair of underwear for him and while he is in with all the other terrorist buddies being held give him what he wanted in the first place. Sure would save alot of tax dollars and his chance of someday being released even though he has no chance for paroled.
T Mel-- May the fleas of a thousand camels infest his new shorts!!
HA! Love the Corp Klinger reference!
JM--that came from Johnny Carson's "Sarnak" segment as well. lol
Great another person that's a strain on the average tax payers again. They need find a way a speed lane to death row cause now he gets guaranteed free showers & 3 meals a day for the rest of his life.
I'd rather have a slow death penalty. For every terrorist pulled off of a plane, there's far more death row inmates exonerated of their crimes due to new evidence or whatever. Believe me I want to see him go too, but it would also cost more to execute him than it would to just let the prison gangs have their way with him year after year.
feed him nothing but a pork diet and give him a bible and hopefully he offs himself.
A few days in Prison with the Aryan Nation. I don't know whatda think.
Mitch, they can send him here to Texas, We have a fast lane to the needle room.
>:-/ 5 minutes alone in a room with this POS....just 5 minutes is all I ask.
Put a bullet in him.
Gee, I wonder how many times someone is going to pee in his Cheerios while he's there? I imagine he'll have his own cell at the mercy of the guards who will be serving him his meals. It won't be pretty.
The penal system can give him his underwear from now on.
You said "penal".
That's right--keep wasting taxpayer dollars to keep traitors like this in jail. Ready and willing to take down a plane-load of innocent strangers should be treated as if he actually accomplished the deed, meaning capital punishment. The fact that he's an incompetent traitor shouldn't play to his benefit.
Sorry, but capital punishment cases cost more than a life sentence of 60 years does
The fact that he's an incompetent traitor shouldn't play to his benefit
Traitor to what country? Nigeria? USA? He is a nigerian citizen, not a US citizen.
What a brainwashed fool this guy is.
Just look at the black Muslims in Darfur.. starving to death. Where is their "Aid Floatilla" from Turkey and Iran? His fellow Muslims in Palestine that he speaks so highly of probably wouldn't lift a finger to help him because he is black...
well this guy IS a nut job.....but he's probably right on one thing.....Osama Bin Laden probably IS still alive. The world never got to see any evidence of his demise. The government thought it too much for us to handle. SO, I'm supposed to trust the governement. Not a one of them. They can't be trusted in their personal lives so why should I trust them with power and authority. Just sayin.
If that is your state of mind, that all in life is one big conspiracy, then be consistent and proclaim that Bush orchestrated the 9/11 attacks.
And I can show you where they landed on the moon in 69. Just south of where I live.
But I do believe Dan has a point. Who do you trust?? All Government officials lie. What really happened at Roswell N.M. Denial!!!!!!!!!!!
Dan-- there was a photo of bin Ladin's body in a newpaper I think in Pakistan. The photo shown on the internet was of a man sitting on a curb reading that newspaper article about his death and showing bin Ladin dead as a doornail. Our papers didn't publish that kind of photo here because of the "outrage" that the hardline Muslims would show toward us. Our military dumped him in the drink somewhere known only to them, respectfully of course, so that his burial site wouldn't become a shrine. I firmly believe he IS DEAD. If he were not, he would not already be viewed as a martyr to the cause. And frankly, I do not believe there EVER was a serious objection by ANY diplomats of Middle Eastern countries. The only flap came from Pakistan-- because we did not clue them in that we were coming so they could warn 'sin' Ladin ahead of time.
Here's the deal with the conspiracy theory about UBL still being alive: wouldn't the easiest way for Bin Laden to discredit the President be to release a recorded message or video?
I'm sure by now he would have heard of his fake death and thumbed his nose at the Infidels.
Ergo, UBL is sleeping with the fishes.
If osama bin lade was alive you would have heard from him by now, Obama wants to look like a hero. There's no doubt he's gone, his own people would be showing him if he was alive.
Sheeple! Wake up. The "leadership of Al Qaeda" works for us. They are CIA. We "killed" Usama, so he could be retired. Then we offed Seal Team Six so they would never talk.
Send his murderous ass to Florence, CO for the rest of his miserable life.
He can yell across the yard to the shoe bomber and the unabomber.
Wow, like why are we stuck with having to house and feed him? I want my money back. He is going to a "super max" prison at the cost of thousands of dollars a day. The cost for us to house this nutbag looser douche is millions.. pay up America, they got us AGAIN!
if you read the book "Inside Gitmo", yes, part of the plan by Al Qaida is to take down America by intentionally wasting our taxpaying dollars and time with all their cat and mouse games.
Well, duh...what does one expect when they shove a bomb in their skivvies????
If some other body parts down there are badly burned also, it would help explain his frustration(s).
he should have put it up his rectum....oh wait, no... then Big Bubba would have any fun...
What about the government agent that helped get him on the plane?http://www.infowars.com/underwear-bomber-patsy-faces-life-sentence-today/
The piece of human excrement tried to kill a whole plane-load of people, along with those on the ground who might have died, too. And the best we can do is "life in prison"? So we all get to pay for his incarceration? His medical care? His food? etc Just shoot the son of a bi#ch!
DrBoogie, ... NOooo yu cannot jus shoot'um!!! Yaah kin BE-Heddd' im tho, >>> caus thass thaa yeeeehaaaawdissttzz way uno. FYI = ( sides thaa, it saves on BULLETZ too).
<> .... YEEEEEEEHAWWWWDISSTZ !!! n' Shareeeeeeiaaah Law fer all'aah them foolz who beeleeve in Moohhaamudd & Co.
If we have to feed him and provide his medical services we should at least have a little fun with it. Feed him pork for every meal and have that cement injecting he/she "doc" tend to his medical needs.
Well I bet he would have been sorry when he was missing his boys ! Ha !
Well he has plenty of time now to reflect on all those Jews walking around free, while he rots.
day did not haf to give da brotha life, meng. he was jus keepin it real, noam sain?
go back to school idiot and i dont mean reform schooliot wanted to blow himself up- suggestion take him out into the woods -tie him to a tree throw some warm gravy on j=him and letr the wolves enjoy a meal
Where I am found Big Al, we got trees with big strong branches. Just try them and put them under the trees, like in a swing, except the swings ropes gets twisted and all somhow or another.
That is not a normal me. NO Visitors. He got what he deserved. Life. His god isn't worth it. His real god is Satan himself.
