the issue I have with this is that we need to get ready for more of these types of thing, IMO. He now gets life in prison, but compared to his normal living conditions in Nigeria, our Prison is the equivalent of the Waldorf Astoria. A roof over his head, 3 meals a day, Showers, fresh linens, free medical and dental; compared to what he would have in his home country; the accommodations are not too bad considering.

There may be more of his friends that try something because they have nothing to loose. his friends may be lining up for their life sentence.

Well I agree, just further waste of tax money. In my opinion is this guy a candidate to be executed? Absolutely. Should he be? I think yes there too; his intent was to kill a plane full of innocent people including himself, he made his bed and now he should sleep in it. As much as we want to do that we need to stay above that as much as possible, and hopefully in some way that will be the difference. Everybody there is in solitary and they spend at least 23 hours a day locked in their little box alone. The only torture he will receive will be mental. He will be safe, he will get medical care when he is sick and he can sit and read his holy hate book and pray all day. That is what happens when you attempt to attack a civilized society. They treat you better than you would treat them and they keep you from ever being able to commit your crime.

These are the stupid things we spend money on. There is no question of this person's guilt; clearly this person cannot be rehabilitated. Therefore, the only logical approach to sentencing should be the death penalty. The convict will, in essence, get what he wanted, to be dead and we will be rid of him for the cost of the injection.

Think of the embarrassment his wealthy family would be spared if he was no longer among the living.

The main base station of mujahideen in Pakistan was the town Badaber, 24 km from Peshawar. The base served as a concentration camp for Soviet and DRA P.O.W.s as well. In 1985, a prisoner rebellion destroyed the base, but the incident was concealed by the Pakistani and Soviet governments until the dissolution of the USSR.

Mujahideen forces caused serious casualties to the Soviet forces, and made the war very costly for the Soviet Union. Thus in 1989, the Soviet Union withdrew its forces from Afghanistan. Life in prison without parole is the perfect sentence for this guy. He is a clear danger to innocent people everywhere, so he can never be released. But as long as he is locked up, he poses no threat. Abdulmutallab will never be any kind of a leader or able to pervert others with his vile way of thinking.

You forget keeping a prisoner on death row. That costs the feds about 8 times more. If this POS lives another 60 years, it will still cost less to keep him in prison than it would for the average time a prisoner spends on death row. All that due process tends to get in the way of a good ol' fashioned 17th century firing squad.

To the best of my knowledge no conspirator to that even was ever arrested on American soil. I could be wrong, but I believe they were all caught in the ME or Afganistan; some by friendly foreign nations. This individual was arrested by civilian police after teh plane landed. He was tried appropriately, though I don't agree with the sentence.

He was so incompetent that I think he only committed a misdemeanor. He should have only been given 11 months 29 days for each count, of course there were 300+ people on the plane and the sentences should run consecutive... :)

Actually most died on 9/11. Moussawi (sp?), who chickened out, actually did get a civilian trial AND was convicted.

Dan-- there was a photo of bin Ladin's body in a newpaper I think in Pakistan. The photo shown on the internet was of a man sitting on a curb reading that newspaper article about his death and showing bin Ladin dead as a doornail. Our papers didn't publish that kind of photo here because of the "outrage" that the hardline Muslims would show toward us. Our military dumped him in the drink somewhere known only to them, respectfully of course, so that his burial site wouldn't become a shrine. I firmly believe he IS DEAD.
