Ariz. sheriff quits Romney campaign, says: 'I'm gay'

Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu speaks at a news conference on Saturday in Florence, Ariz. Babeu was forced to confirm he is gay amid allegations of misconduct made by a man with whom he previously had a relationship.

A sheriff has stepped down as Arizona co-chairman of Mitt Romney's presidential campaign amid allegations of misconduct made by a man with whom he previously had a relationship.

At a press conference Saturday outside his office in Florence, Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu called the man’s allegations, published Thursday in a Phoenix New Times story, "completely false."

He said the only information mentioned in the article that's true is "I'm gay," The Arizona Republic reported.

Babeu, who is also running for Congress in Arizona’s new 4th Congressional District, quit his position as Romney’s Arizona co-chairman but vowed to stay in the congressional campaign.

"Sheriff Babeu has stepped down from his volunteer position with the campaign so he can focus on the allegations against him," Romney spokesman Ryan Williams told The Arizona Republic in a statement. "We support his decision."

Babeu, who was elected in 2008 as the first Republican sheriff of Pinal County, has gained national media attention for speaking out against illegal immigration and the unsecured U.S. border with Mexico.

The difference is that Repubs will deal with lying, cheating, hypocritical members of their party. Unlike Dems who will vote unanamously to support their lying, cheating, hypocritical Presidents (Clinton) and attack anyone who dares question them.

What Babeu has done is UGLY and he will lose everything.

It's nice to see that good liberals, like Marlen, who will defend Barney Frank's right to let his homosexual boyfriend run a homosexual brothel in his DC townhouse, will make fun of Sheriff Babeu for being homosexual and having an ad for same. I guess if you are going to be a ridiculous hypocrite you might as well go all the way.

Freedom, Republicans are called hypocrites because they don't agree with democrats. If you would ever come down from your throne of purity and open your eyes, you would see there is plenty of hypocritical thinking and acting on both sides of the aisle. You pointing the finger at one side without looking on the other side is in itself hypocritical. How about looking for something positive to do about the things you don't like. If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. While I may not agree you you concerning anything at all, I really don't need to call you names. What you are is obvious to everyone. LMAO Freedom,

Really? So you mean that Marlen's post had nothing to do with making fun of a homosexual man and his ad, and was only intended to reveal me, a person who doesn't give a rat's rear who the sheriff sleeps with, as a hypocrite? Help me understand, you complete tool, just how this was supposed to work?

Marlen supports liberal homosexuals, but ridicules conservative homosexuals...Marlen supports corrupt liberal homosexuals, but condemns corrupt (assuming the charges are true) conservative homosexuals. I, on the other hand, don't care that one or the other is homosexual, and condemn corruption regardless of the bed it makes. Now I get your point! Geesus you are as stupid as I originally thought.

We did deal with Clinton. He was impeached and was found not guilty. Stuff it. First off, him having sex with Lewinski had nothing to do with the Whitewater investigation. Nothing. That the repubs replaced the original prosecutor with a religious zealot was just a chance for them to pry into an affair that had nothing to do with the Whitewater land deal, a deal in which the Clintons LOST money. Love you holier-than-thou repubs who care more about what people do in their private lives than what the could be doing to improve the bush-crashed economy. Repubs preach family values, then go hide being gay. Dems don't.

Conversely, Clinton was charged with a crime, disbarred, and impeached...Liberals rallied around him and hold him up as some sort of false idol. Libs voted him the 18th most admired person of the 20th century..lol!!! Compared to those standards, I don't think libs have ANY room to criticize how Repubs deal with their "house cleaning."

I just wish the congress had appointed an "independent" prosecutor to investigate the Bush administration as vigorously as the "independent" prosecutor Kenneth Starr investigated the Clintons. Now there would have been a story worth reading. The only reason it didn't happen was the Republican House and the Republican Attorney General protecting the Republican president. And actually Kenneth Starr was about as independent as Karl Rove.

What ever happened to Paula Jones and Linda Tripp after the Republican accomplished their mission? I believe they were dumped like trash never to be heard or seen again.

Also "accounts of rumors that have been swirling for months". I suggest folks go check out the news stories for themselves before passing any judgements on this guy. Man! You repubs are quick to kill one of your own who doesn't fit the mold. That Sheriff didn't do anything wrong legally, at least not yet been proved. May just be a made up charge. But he admitted to being gay. That's it. Yet you keep saying that he is DONE! Just because he's gay you say he's done? What a sexist, homophobic thing to say. He was doing a good job as Sheriff? He was accused of something that's not good, but he hasn't been proved guilty yet. But you are all set to crucify (wait, don't do that, it didn't turn out good the last time) him for nothing? Nice way to stand behind your party. This man is one of yours! He is a lawman and a republican, and probably some kind of christian. But you want him gone. You suck. I have some HYPOCRISY for you

How about in 2008 when Obama challenged McCain to take public money, and limit the amount of campaign spending?

As soon as McCain did, Obama did an about face, and announced he would not accept public money, so he could spend as much as he wanted?

Sure enough, another election year, and more of the same from Obamney.

How about scolding the SCOTUS live on national tv over citizens united?

And then deciding he will now take superpac money?

And then trying to lower taxes on corporations who fund superpacs?

That's some HYPOCRISY for you.

For the record, I don't care if the guy is gay, it's not really relevant to his performance in my point of view. As far as whatever went on, and wether or not it was appropriate, there is not enough info in this article to form an intelligent opinion.

There's a big lie out there that all republicans hate gay people. Check out the Log Cabin society some time, it might be a real eye opener for some of you people who still buy into all the stereotypes.

Skrewed -- you don't get what "impeachment" means, obviously. There would never have been a Senate trial if there had not been House impeachment, as it is like "indictment" in that it means only that there is grounds to have a trial, as grand juries do in more typical cases. Most U.S. states function the same way. President Andrew Johnson suffered the same fate in the aftermath of the Civil War -- he was impeached, but never actually convicted and served out the rest of his (Lincoln's) term.

Democrats for the most part will do anything to support their fellows, regardless of what they have done. When have you ever heard of the "Rev." Jesse Jackson being chided as a hypocrite by fellow Democrats? Most Republicans are apalled by Larry Craig, John Ensign, etc., and couldn't wait for them to leave office. Now it will be exactly the same with this guy.

Why, yes. That just means that the House of Representatives filed charges. However, he was acquitted. The charges were without merit and it was really a case of malicious prosecution.

YEAH! your 1st collapsed post!! WOOHOO something to be proud of indeed!!! Sounds like your only intent here is to be an antagonist.

No, that one seems to me a recognition that the "community" will collapse any post that they think is persuasive against their prescribed views. As his viewpoint is consistently contrary to the majority of posters here (most of the posters here are lockstep Democrats and do not think for themselves; several others are lockstep Republicans who also let others do their thinking for them) the fact that his comment was collapsed is testament to him having produced an argument that the community found persuasive and so didn't want seen.

Alil:

How about in 2008 when Obama challenged McCain to take public money, and limit the amount of campaign spending?

As soon as McCain did, Obama did an about face, and announced he would not accept public money, so he could spend as much as he wanted?

Yes, that was wrong of Obama to do.

That's probably a bit of confustion caused by the fact that it is part of the Republican platform to persecute gays.

The fact that Sheriff Babeu is gay is irrelevant, or at least it should be. Babeu is also a fierce & vocal supporter of tight illegal emigrant control, again no problem there.

What is relevant, & what this poorly written article failed to mentioned, is that he had a long term relationship with an illegal emigrant & when the relationship soured, he threatened to have his ex-partner deported. That is where the highly questionable morality comes into play.

Impeachment is a political--not a legal process. It has the veneer of a trial, but in its essence, impeachment means whatever those who seek to impeachment think it means. The constitution provides grounds of impeachment as 'bribery, treason or other high crimes and misdemeanors" which gives a lot of latitude to Congress as to whether actions taken by the president can be impeachable. If you look closely enough, just about every president in our nations history has taken actions that could be impeachable--but few do.

It is telling that we've only had two presidential impeachments (plus Nixon's resignation), and that the two impeachments were largely political. Andrew Johnson was disfavored by Congress for his conciliatory attitude towards the south, so the House impeached him. The most specific and valid allegation was that Johnson fired his Secretary of War, in violation of the Tenure of Office act, which required Senate approval for the removal of any cabinet official. This act was later repealed, and would undoubtedly have been found unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.

Johnson managed to survive with only one vote less than the 2/3rds needed to convict, then remove him from office. Many believed the impeachment trial to be a one-side presentation of the evidence. On the other hand, there were rumors that several acquittal votes were essentially bought and paid for through patronage.

As far as Clinton's impeachment goes, there doesn't seem to be much dispute that Clinton broke the law by committing perjury in his testimony to the grand jury. What was in dispute is whether that particular charge rose to the level of impeachment, and thus removal from office. Is "perjury" a high crime" or "misdemeanor?" Does the subject matter (his personal life) mitigate the circumstances?

Of course, much of the public didn't see it as a trial over perjury or obstruction of justice; they simply thought that Republicans were persecuting Clinton for having an affair, particularly since House Republican leaders didn't even consider a censure vote, knowing it would pass overwhelmingly. It didn't help that several Republicans then and since were revealed to have had affairs in their recent past or even in the present, including Gingrich, Henry Hyde and potential speaker Bob Livingston. This only angered the public further, as they saw it as rank hypocrisy.

I do not think that whatever a person's sexual preference is has any thing to do with his discharge of his sworn duties, if he handles them according to the mandates of the job. It is like criticizing a man for being a Catholic, or a Mormon or a Lutheran or a Baptist. We would no more label a public official with any of these religious preferences as being unfit simply because of his religion. I have worked with many people, some I knew who were differently sexually oriented, some I suspected who were, but by and large they did their jobs competently. They knew my sexual preference so I had no problem with them on this score, none of them ever made any overtures toward me. We should look on people with different sexual preferences not in the light of it, but in the light of can they handle their job effectively. we are all free to have political opinions about what ever policies are in force, and this too depends on whether any person can divorce his political opinion from his appointed duty. I have met many police officers who wrote tickets for not being buckled up because it was the law, but they said they didn't like the law also.

Darlin, if you were a gay republican, would you want it known if you were running for office? Ummm, I think maybe not. The one thing we can all agree on is; Newsvine and MSNBC are for the most part considered liberal - so why would a conservative even both to visit these sites? Those who go looking for fights, are sure to find them.

I can't think of anything more futile than if I went to Fox News forums and tried to argue liberal points.

Larry Craig was charged with a crime. He was forced out and never heard from again. David Vitter, was not charged with a crime, but did have a moral failure that was between him and his wife.

Craig's "crime" was a seductive act in a public restroom - not much of a crime, but enough to end his political career - he didn't resign, he decided not to run for re-election. Vitter's case involved a prostitute, the only reason he wasn't charged is that he wasn't actually caught "in the act", his name was on the Madam's contact list. I'm still amazed that Vitter got re-elected, apparently the Religious Right only condemns sexual sins if they involve the same sex or Democrats.

Babeu committed a crime, he lied to his constituents numerous times, and lived a double-life...he is done.

What crime? He hasn't been charged with anything yet. Being Gay is not a crime, nor is having a gay affair with another man. Keeping ones private life private isn't crime, either. Now there have been rumors that he threatened an ex-lover with deportation. Unseemly if true, but I'm not sure if that rises to the level of "crime".

        Insoc,

Get your facts straight. Craig plead guilty to a lesser crime and NO ONE forced him out. It is common knowledge that he never resigned but instead finished his term and just didn't run again. Anthony Weiner, on the other hand, resigned almost immediately. GOP has plenty of judgement, but very little shame.

You are dead wrong when it comes to the difference in Repubs "dealing" with their politicians in sex scadals. Do us a favor and actually Google the repub sex scandals vs dems. There is a great imbalance of dems resigning vs repubs who glue their asses to their congressional seats until their terms are over. Sorry but the stats don't lie.

Well, if he admits he's gay, that should be enough for the Republican party to have him stoned to death. Never mind whatever other misdemeanors or felonies he may have committed.

This is the stuff which explains why GOPpers keep after PresidentObama, they can not accept the fact that there is nothing bad to find on him - because he hasn't done anything that they can hang on him,and make it stick. He's not a Saint, just a decent human being - think hard, somewhere in your GOPper hearts you must have met someone who was genuinely decent and honest?

So, they are left with having to fabricate issue - which everyone sees as what they actually are - transparent fabrications.

You all are a total bunch of fools! There are gays in the Republican party and gays in the Democratic Party. The difference is that the gays in the Republican party are masculine and butch and believe that what they do in their private life or behind closed doors is nobody's business, while the gays in the Democratic party are the ones that are feminine acting and not so masculine. They are the ones you will see going on gay cruises and the gay party circuit. They are the ones who are heavily into crystal meth, promiscuous sex and the ones that believe that everyone should be outed. So there are two very different categories that separate gays.

I'm glad that we have you monitoring the gay community so closely, but isn't this a form of voyeurism? Being gay, your word, is something that passes through my mind about once every blue moon, and then only because someone else mentions it in reference to somebody. I could have gone on for years thinking Rock Hudson was the all American macho male but somebody had to tell me he was more fruity than the fruit cake. The fact that he was "gay" didn't detract from the roles he played. I'll bet the producers and directors who worked with him in those days knew it too, but they still made movies portraying him as the man many men wished they could be. How many of your heroes are "gay". I'll bet you don't even know and for the record I liked it better when they kept their sexual preferences private also. I'm just not interested in who is doing who, I'm bust trying to find my own who.

Wrong, Ryan. The difference is gay vs closeted homosexual, not gay Republican vs Gay Democrat. Gays are open and honest about who they are and do not hide it. Closet homos are often married to cover it up and play Conservative Christian on the side..... Dem or Rep.

The issue wasn't so much that Babeu is gay; it was more about allegations that he was threatening to abuse his powers as sheriff against his boyfriend. Also, if it is true that Jose is indeed an illegal, well, what does that say about a law enforcement officer who has tried to build up an image of being aggressively for illegal immigration enforcement? Finally, how prudent is it for an elected official to post suggestive photos of himself on social media sites? Whether or not he's an appropriate (GOP) candidate, because of his sexual orientation, is another matter for the right wingers to gnash their teeth over. It does make it, uh, awkward, for a party that claims to be for family values and is against gays/lesbians. But then, they have Newt Gingrich runnning as a presidential candidate, so you can't put much stock in GOP values.

Gumps, I read on another article that Jose has a valid VISA and that the sheriff was only threatening him with deportation. Jose's lawyer claims that he is here legally. We just had a local mayor, a Republican Conservative Christian come out of the closet over improprieties in his expense spending and a particular receipt for a gay sex toy shop in Canada. Greg Davis had campaigned against gays during his whole tenure as mayor and during his run for congress.

These things happen in stages. First the rhetoric and homophobic speech and big talk against gays while spouting your family values and love of Party and Jesus. Next comes the moment of insanity where they make a mistake and expose their secret lifestyle. The final stage involves a public speech (with scarf-and-glasses-hidden wife at side, children in background optional) and talk of rehab. The outcome is either another gay person who is happy or another incongruous enigma of the Human Race- a 'reformed homosexual'.

Jakrabt, it will come out soon enough as to what Jose's status actually is. Personally, I suspect that he is here legally, otherwise he would not have hired a lawyer to protect him from Babeu's alleged threats. Were the threats real or a fabrication, perhaps to derail Babeu's political ambitions? We'll have to wait and see. But one thing appears to be clear: Paul has exercised extreme poor judgement in what he posted on social media sites.

There is also the issue that should be resolved amongst members of the GOP: What exactly is the party's stand with regard to gays/lesbians? It's clear that the GOP is against gays in the military and allowing gay couples to enjoy the same rights as straight married people. And of course, one of the GOP's well known spokesmen, Rush Limbaugh himself has publically made statements such as:

When a gay person turns his back on you, it is anything but an insult; it’s an invitation

Democrats will “bend over, grab the ankles, and say, ‘Have your way with me’” to African American and gay voters.

Comments such as these don't exactly suggest an acceptance of gays. All of this suggests, to me anyway, that the GOP has an image problem. No surprises there.

What about his National guard record? What about all the good he has done these years he has been in office? All of the people who stood for him all this time and ONE-1 Illegal states something about him,Do we know if this is some kind of a Smear tactic? Do we know for sure, beyond a doubt any of it is even True? NO! It seems silly that he would take such a stand against illegals in our country and how we need more troups along the border if he was not against this. Come on. You're buddy, KRedcorn, above, asks "where's the proof?" Babeu was named "sheriff of the year", and we should take his word over the claims of his boyfriend? Obviously, somebody is lying. The only opinion I've expressed on this matter is that if the allegations are true that Jose is indeed an ilegal immigrant, then that says a lot about a sheriff who is all about enforcing immigration laws. Do you disagree with that?

Insoc, that's really funny what you say about Republicans because they DON'T deal with people. Example, Senator David Vitter is still in office who refused to resign after he got busted in not one but two prositute stings. This is after he went after a fellow republican in the state of Louisiana, Bob Livingston who resigned after it was discovered he had a child out of wedlock and then Vitter went after Clinton. He should be out of office, and let's not talk about all the other republicans who have been outed and still in office.

I don't care if this guy is gay, that's none of my business nor should he have to announce it to the world. It is in situations where people will use your personal business against you if you have hidden it from the world which is dangerous. I guess the former lover was angry about something, or he really did tell him he was going to deport him, I don't know if it is true, but it is enough to get him dropped. I don't have a problem with this guy being a republican, but I don't understand why you would align yourself with someone who hated your guts for being yourself.

He is the first elected Republican Sheriff of Pinal County? Man, I would have missed that one on Jeopardy.

The first thing the illegals do in Pima County is buy an Arizona Wildcats shirt and shorts, so they look like the legals. Half of the Valencia Walmart customers are illegal - why do we even bother with a Border Patrol?

My brother loves Joe Arpaio - he lives in Texas. I love it - my brother who hated cops all his life - becomes a conservative and suddenly starts sending emails telling everyone how great Sheriff Joe is....that boy is messed up...lol.

PantomBeast, you're delusional. First of all, Paul did not use "BlackMail to Extort Sex from an illegal immigrant". Supposedly they had a relationship for some time - met via some online gay dating site. Jose has a visa. Paul wanted Jose to keep his mouth shut about their affair, and when he refused, Babeu's attorney contacted and told him that his visa had expired (untrue). When all of this came out into the media, Paul had to admit he was gay - afterall, there are all those photos of him out there on those social media sites.

redcorn, it makes perfect sense to say you're against illegals being here even though you are dating one the same way closet gays are the most repressive of other gays. for proof simply look at what gay politicians do against gay rights before they come out and say they are gay.

Ok, in that case let California keep their 1.98 trillion GDP (largest in the nation) to themselves and for themselves. We're sick of funding red state welfare programs with the higher share of taxes we pay. I totally agree with the wall idea too. So tired of rednecks wandering across the border and blathering about how bad CA is. If you don't like it here stay the hell out and let us have our paradise to ourselves.

I hate to burst your bubble, but we don't fund the red states. We can barely fund ourselves. Scratch that...we can't fund ourselves. Those programs you think are so incredibly important, like farm subsidies, well those don't go to the state, they go to individuals. Some things do go to states, like transportaion funds, but I doubt it makes it on the list of important things to consider. Why not get a grip on reality and end this political circle jerk. No homosexual pun intended in a story about a homosexual sheriff.

Actually no Rich. We had a net deficit with the Feds one year (2008.. most states had a deficit that year because of stimulus spending), but overall we're one of the most net positive states in the country (meaning that we always give more to the treasury than we get back from it).

We may have had our own budget problems, but, as a whole, we still do more from the US than the US does for us.

I found a chart, doesn't say what year, that shows how much a state receives for each dollar paid into the federal government. Interestingly 17 states pay in more than they get back, 33 and dc get more back than they pay in. Seems a bit lopsided. I didn't use my calculator but I suspect that california is the biggest donater.

Yes guys, this particular article did not mention anything about the status of Jose - that was reported in other articles, such as the Arizona Republic. It's quite likely that Jose is not an illegal, afterall, he did hire a lawyer. There is the possibility that Babeu may have threatened to abuse his power - we don't know at this point. It's a matter of he said, he said.... Still, there are a lcouple of things that cannot be overlooked:

                  1. Paul exercised poor judgement in posting photos of himself on social media sites.

                  2. Paul must have been dreaming if he thought that he could run for Congress as a member of the GOP and not have the issue of his exual orientation come out into the open. It is widely known what the prevailingo attitude is in the GOP towards gays/lesbians.

They must of had an all out scratch your eyes out fight, a hot blooded Mexican and a hard right tea bagger, must of made for one passionate relationship. The Mexican should take the sheriff to court and sue him for spousal support. The Mexiacan just probably wanted to help out with his lovers campagne and the sheriff couldn't handle that and look, divorce court. Theres just no place in a relationship like that for politics. The Mexican probably thought he'd be going to all the big gala dinners together with the sheriff at the WH and look, poof nothing now. Spousal support would be the way to go for him now, his dreams are shattered, no chit chat with the congressional wives at the parties, exchanging different ideas on how to decorate the living room. His dreams are shot.

Ohh well... i think people worry too much about others sexual life's and forget about their capacity .

Many people when feel pressure or unhappy... they just use what they have on hands to mess up the others life's. Maybe, and just maybe all this it's just a pay back...for something made the other one unhappy.

And just a comment: A valid visa doesn't mean a person it's legal or illegal, just mean they have rights to try to come in here, and if they are allowed to be inside USA they can stay for a period of time...this period of time it's called PERMIT to stay, and can be for days or months. But expire one day.And after expire if they don't have the permanent resident card... they became illegal in here. it's little complicated...

I feel bad for both of them...

Since you think that all Californians are "illegals" I'm sure you won't mind if we keep our revenues for ourselves, instead of doling it out to all the red conservative welfare states. In fact, that goes for all of the other blue states as well. Lets see how well you bible thumping little welfare queens do without us.

Since states don't pay taxes, individuals do, it is certainly fair to look at all the funds that come back from the federal government when calculating net donor/receiver states. The fact is that the conservative states, full of people demanding a balanced budget, tend to be the ones that benefit the most from net federal spending. It is "liberal" states such as CA, NJ, NY, CT, etc... that is providing the funding. Perhaps there's something to be said for liberals, after all.

His affair was with a possibly illegal Mexican immigrant. The Mexican claims that the Sheriff threatened him with expulsion from the US if he told anyone about the affair. The Sheriff, an anti-immigrant Teabagger, was blackmailing the Mexican. These are the kind of people who Romney is most comfortable with.

If you had you wouldn't be spewing the things you are right now based on rumor and non-proven allegations and other posters citing links that I couldn't find. I e-mail the Foreign link cited by a poster asking to be sent whatever story they have and if I do hear back from them and this story is still up I'll let you know Marlen. It's an election year and both sides are determined to play down and dirty and both sides fully intend to drag anybody they can into this viscious cycle with any rumor and inuendo they can find. Hopefully the majority of people don't beleive everything they read especially on this comment site. Folks like Rserp1 obviously believe what they see here cause this man is openly gay, it's old news.

Again, it's not gayness, it's the hypocracy of being anti-illegal immigration on the one hand and having a sexual relationship with an illegal immigrant on the other that is the story. I'm thinking it would be considered, illegal entry of an illegal immigrant. Some things are just too funny. Over 60yrs of failed policies and people are just now realizing whom they voted for. I guess the lessor of the two evils is all were ever going to get!

Free this nation from all the bull****. VOTE RON PAUL. Time to get the monkeys off our backs.

Ron Paul is just another Republican in disguise. His only purpose in running for office is to draw away votes from certain other candidates. It is the oldest political trick in the Washington circus. Throw away your vote if you want to, but I am voting for OBAMA 2012!

Nothing wrong with a conservative law enforcement being gay or in the closet. Just ask the still closeted ghost of J. Edgar Hoover. (It's hard to heard him though with all that taffeta muffling the chains of his mortal sins.) But what I do want to fact check is the correct pronunciation of Pinal County where this dude works. You can't make that stuff up. And speaking of law enforcement officers with romance on the brain, check out this funny YouTube video about "Obama's Secret Service." Enjoy:

All your "documentation" can be tracked back to the early christian leadership. No independent historian has ever confirmed the man's existence, let alone his deity. Your statement is simply false. He may well have existed. Many people spend their lives as unknowns or as unknown outside their little group. But it is safe to say that, if he existed, he was no deity. And there is nothing verifiable.

Honest - this looks like a relationship that went bad (Jose accused Babeu of cheating on him). Jose gets his revenge by posting pictures and tweets from their time together and outs the sheriff. Jose states the sheriff's attorney threatened that his visa was expired (not true, Jose says) and the attorney could apply pressure to have him deported if he talks about the affair. To me it just looks like a case of a scorned lover out to make the ex look bad.

I don't think this is going to affect the Sheriff's election campaign one bit. It might even enhance it -the" look this proves we're not homophobic" angle.

I may have a few things I agree with him in politically...but his credibility is shot. Heck, maybe he lied about his political ambitions just to win the election in the first place. His ethics are in serious question right now.

I guarantee there were plenty of repubs who voted for him the first time who didn't know he was gay.The repub party and voters will abandon him like rats from a sinking ship ONLY because he's now imfamous for being the gay, republican sheriff...Plus, it's Arizona...he'll be lucky if he doesn't get shot by some righty nut-job.

Here is another, yes another example example why I make this claim. First the GOP/T-Pers are against immigration and also being gay. Yet now this "Sheriff" an officer of the law (Arizona at that). Threatening deportation to an illigal immigrant if he doesn't keep quite about their secret love affair. Boy oh boy, talk about twisted right wing-nuts... This man here is a perfect example.

Hollywood should be taking cues from this stuff. I certainly enjoy stories driven by character conflict like this a million times more than "reality TV" which isn't even real but scripted.

It is simply wrong for you to state that the teaparty is against immigration. They are against ILLEGAL immigration, and allowing those who willfully did not abide by US regulations and illegally entered the country or illegally overstayed legal visas to be given taxpayer funded government services and be allowed to remain in the US.

If my hubby dies ,I am out of here!!Arizona ,that is! He just loves the weather and his backyard too much.

                                      Nice post, Independent.

My husband and I love to visit the Southwest. However, since AZ has gone over the deep end, we just visit New Mexico. I just can't support what your leaders are doing at this time.

So, none of our tourism dollars are coming to AZ. I will be glad to come back when AZ's elected leaders stop their insanity.

I find the lies of most of you just what I would expect from Liberals. It is NOT Republicans who have pushed their agenda on America. It IS the Liberal left who continually has pushed their AGENDA on the rest of us. I am an Independent and have become more against Democrats than Republicans for just that reason. Most of us just want to be left alone to live our lives as we wish. If you want to be gay and kill unborn babies and spend your state into financial ruin, but don't push that agenda on the rest of us. I don't wish to push my belief in God on you. If you wish to think that Jesus was a fairy tale, then find do so. Just don't tell me how to think. For one thing the Bible is documented proof that he was not a fairy tale. That is more than can be said for the Left's belief in Evolution. Not only have they been unable to make the case for the connection between ape and man in the evolutionary process, but they have not make any scientific connection throughout the process. Just ask yourself one question. How many apes have you witnessed becoming a human in your lifetime? The answer is none and why is that. We still have apes and humans. The fact is that it just a limp baseless theory and not a scientific fact as the left asserts. Believe in your fairy tale and I will stay with something more plausable like their is a God. I would rather believe I came from something more devine than an ape and it was through a plan and not just an accident.

                                      My, what a hypocrite, Bobwhite!

"Most of us just want to be left alone to live our lives as we wish." But if a gay person wants to serve in the military, well that's a different matter, right? Oh, and if gays/lesbians want to get married, well, that shouldn't be allowed either. Because you are an avowed Christian, who thinks gays are perverted, right?

"Just don't tell me how to think" But we should abide by your religious views. You should be asking yourself who is really telling you how to think?

I dropped my subscription to "Joke of the Day"- the big government, anti- Constitution bunch known as the Republican Party provides a daily giggle, and each day's joke is more outrageous than the last.

BTW- where does it say in the Bible- "Thou shalt campaign for Republicans,in order to remain in ignorance and denial, take many pictures of thyself half dressed, and invest thy money in the Cayman Islands"?

Christianity and Islam are just derivative religions, copied from Judaism-I am neither of the three, but Judaism is the original-if you really believe in the Bible, you would know that the Hebrews are God's chosen people -so shut the f up with the "I am better than you" rant!

Bobwhite - very well said regardless of the usual moronic comments made by droids of the left and those that can't separate sh— t from shinola. Lets see, what do most Republicans and Conservatives support? - 1st and 2nd Ammendment rights, religion, moral values and moral behavior, a strong military, small government, traditional values, natural relationships, traditional marriage, hard work, self-sufficiency, strong work ethic, the Bill of Rights and constitutional law as it is written and NOT activitst judges distorting the law Many liberals and many Democrats support exactly the opposite, and THIS is what is tearing this country apart right now. Gumps - gays ARE perverted when compared to natural and normal behavior as defined by most cultures. They are also psycho-emotionally impaired with ego dystonic sexual identity disorders regardless of the garbage that the gay intimidated APA says, and they have three times the mental health related problems, sexual partners, suicides, and STD's as straights - even THEY admit that. Anybody can tell someone what to "think", except in North Korea, but nobody can make someone think unless they can apply a Vulcan Mind Meld. Cultures however have every right to negate or separate any type of behavior deemed detrimental to the culture or society as HOMOSEXUALITY has been in most societies and cultures for the last 3000 years. True, there has been a great deal of "accmodation" for homosexuals throughout history, but in most cases it was more like finding ways to deal with the weird kid in the neighborhood. Some societies just used them for entertainment or sexual gratification, others gave them colored triangles before they put them in gas chambers. Even the ancient Greeks considered homosexuality devient behavior, and don't give me the Spartan Homosexual argument; their man-love situations were merely to form bonds (kind of like circle jerks before gays started saying that adolescent boys exploring their sexuality with each other made them all gay). Most americans would breathe a sigh of relief if gays went BACK into the closet. Ok, lets start with the name-calling and usual BS attacks by those who still don't know what genitalia and reproductive systems are designed for and choose to be dumbed down, but please try to articulate drivel more intelligent than homophobe, bigot, racist, blah blah blah. There's an old saying, "the truth will set you free-but first it will make you miserable". Gays in the last 50 years or so have refused to accept the truth and instead have been trying to make everyone else miserable. They're doing a great job in that respect. Enough said.

People already know in their hearts that MOST "R's" are gay, look at their draft dodging history, it is probably how they got out of the draft in the 60's but it was easier to tell the public they had a pimple on their butt. ROFL!

We should ALL be sickened by the sheer amount of distrust that MANY of our leaders ON BOTH SIDES have fostered. I really thought this guy was legit. Its disheartening to find out that he was basically a COMPLETE lie from top to bottom. Isn't it about time that WE stop making excuses for failed political leaders just because they said a few things we agreed with politically?

(Of course, if he had meant that, he could've vetoed the bill, explained that he would never sign any law with those provisions for adminstratively detaining U.S. citizens, and found another way to have paid the troops in the interim and the American people, for the most part, would've backed him IMO. If some civilian employees had missed a check, it just would've emphasized how civil liberties are IMPORTANT, and naturally it would've been made up. Even some fairly decent members of Congress have given the lame excuse that they had to do this or the troops wouldn't get paid. Isn't that the best [worst] way they've ever devised to pass UTTER CRAP?)

I wholeheartedly agree with you. Although his veto would have been little more than a gesture (I believe over 95 senators voted for it and therefore his veto would have been easily overturned), it would have demonstrated to the American people where he stood vis-a-vis the constitution.

I was very disappointed he signed the bill.

I don't mind reading stories about GOP politicians good or bad. we're humans, we make mistakes and it happens. However, the left wing bias towards certain politicians that are not called Obama or a democrat is just pathetic. We are smart enough to draw our own conclusions about what's going on in this country. WE don't need networks like NBC to sensor it or control it for Big Brother.

I still cannot find an article on this site criticizing or even reporting on Obama for adding another 1.3 trillion to the deficit. I still haven't read that in less than 3.5 years of his administration Obama has added more to the National Debt than Bush did in 8 years. It took this network over a week and some others over two weeks to report that Obama was forcing the church to provide contraception. But the minute the GOP does anything remotely controversial, it's reported immediately and most of the time is not even correct and they do not retract it. Say what you want about Bush, he took a beating in the press and still handled himself professional. Obama actually whines about the press when they talk about him and just like Bush they are right on the money. Obama won't allow Fox News anywhere near him. That's pathetic. When the President of the United States chooses who will intimately report 'his' news... we're in trouble.

Maybe if NBC went back to actually reporting the news and stopped promoting their liberal agenda they would move out of last place in both the network ratings and cable ratings. CNN started out reporting the news and then went left and watched their viewership leave, now they are back to reporting 'the news' and are coming back.

                                                  Dangerous Mind

That's exactly the left wing liberal mindset. If that was true then how does FOX NEWS crush every other cable news program on TV. They've done it for years and have done it consistently. More people watch FOX NEWS then any other cable news channel and recently The Factor beat a network news broadcast...NBC Nightly News. Hannity = All left wing nuts. Cannot watch his right-wing bias either.

So your theory/reply is seriously flawed, inaccurate and without merit... it's an opinion without any facts whatsoever to back it up, like the reporting by this network.

                                                  BuddyThisToo~~

I agree with you on that 100%. I voted for Obama because I believed his lie and like the rest of the country was tired of 'Bush-like' politics. However Obama has made his share of mistakes that quietly and quickly get swept under the carpet. Obama's never held accountable for his actions when (as the leader of this country) he should be.

Say what you want about the war and the recession under Bush. Obama did not have to increase our deficit and introduce ObamaCare at a time when this country cannot afford it. He did not have to bail out companies with taxpayer money that are now bankrupt. We will never get that money back.

Remember Bush started the bailout of the auto industry... that was his deal, not Obama's. Obama didn't stop it or stand in it's way. That is the only thing he has done correctly in his administration. In fact, his economical policies have all failed. Yet these networks fail to report it. We are not in a turnaround when major companies are declaring bankruptcy and closing stores. 100's of stores that employ thousands of People are closing this year... more people will be out of work.

Let me copy what unbiased sources say about deficits and let me explain first, although I voted for Obama for president, I think, if not for the skin, he would be another retard pervert from Texas. That said, here is what other sources say about your "deficit." In Fact, Experts Attribute Deficit To Bush-Era Tax Cuts, Wars, Economic Downturn." Here another: "CBO Projected $1.2T Deficit In January 2009 Based On Spending Bush Authorized; Actual Deficit Was $1.4T. In a January 7, 2009." Other sources put deficits in this order, the king of deficits? Ronald Reagan with his taboo economics fo "trickle down economics." Guess who number 2 is? The retard pervert from Texas. You can have your opinion, but not your own facts. BTW, the whole media can't be trusted to tell the truth or practice Viet Nam era true journalism, they all are scady cat scared of the truth, and the only thing they care for now is bottom line, a la your buddies at the fixnews network.

Bman, you forget O'Rielly (FOX) interviewed President Obama? Maybe that doesn't count. Fox News(Entertainment) draws the lowest common denominator; the grocery store Enquirer mindset, which was shown to have a lower intelligence factor. What do you expect President Obama to do in 2 years of Democratic controlled House/Senate that President Bush had control of for 5 years straight? That is equivalent to standing in front of a new microwave oven after years of cooking on a malfunctioning stove and yelling 'HURRY UP!' No different than the GOP blaming President Obama for TARP, when it was enacted by President Bush. No different then the GOP screaming about the ending of the Iraq War to President Obama following the timeline for the final withdrawl of troops in Iraq. Maybe because the GOP's hand in the Military contractor laundry scheme would be drying up? Of course the Iraqi Government WANTING the U.S. out made no difference to the GOP. Not to mention the foreclosures going over the cliff in 2007 and the blaming of the Frank/Todd practices, when the ACTUAL fault was 80+% of the PRIVATE Mortgage companies and banks, NOT Fannie/Freddie. 23 straight months of economic UPSWING is not failure, unless you are from the GOP, then you start picking fights concerning Women's Rights, because you want to move back to the 1812's, instead of looking forward past 2012. Nothing like making women angry to change where the vote is going to go. THANKS GOP!!!!

Buddy, First off Rick Perry is so kinky he could hide behind a cork screw. Second, Perry has been having homosexual relations since his college days and was even caught in the act with the Texas Secretary of State in his office by his wife Anita. He followed the path of Texas's other gay governor George W Bush. In defense of Perry he was coked out of his brains in that debate to try to get through it without his usual stupidity. Bottom line is that every top ranking member of the Republican party is homosexual. I did not use gay because they are closet homosexuals who believe that being honest is wrong and that if you keep it in the closet it is not a sin. If you don't believe me just ask any gay Baptist preacher.

Whatever happened to unbiased Journalism? This headline is intentionally misleading, I feel sorry for those who let it set the mood for the article. At first glance, it appears to be about Romney's campaign. On closer inspection, it's not. The connotation is another blatent, biased, muckracking attempt to cast the republican candidate in a poor light. Hence the coupling of the words 'force' and gay in the caption of the picture. How is he 'forced' to admit he's gay if he voluntarily stepped down to deal with the allegations? Obviously, the liberal media knows the public isn't buying the democratic snake oil the way they did four years ago. If Babeu's stepping down, there's possibly some truth to the allegations.

I'm not for either side politically, I'm neutral as regards politics, from what I have gathered from reading the news for years the people this gay guy was promoting are generally anti-gay. I don't believe that men should smoke other men's cigars or play with their dice, but I believe God is allowing them to do so until he says no more smoking other men's cigars or playing with their dice. He put a stop to it at Sodom and Gomorrah and he will stop it again on a global scale in the future, in the mean time, men smoking other men's cigars and playing with their dice is only on the same plain of sin as women and women, and all other gross sins, it's not the only sin, even unmarried men and women is called fornication, if you care about the Bible's viewpoint, it isn't vague about such things, it states God's view of such things very clearly. But, God is allowing people to do as they wish for now under Satan's rulership. His son Christ's Jesus' disciples are not political, they tell people about God's Kingdom that Christ taught about that would solve the world's problems, Christ didn't get into politics although he was offered all the Kingdoms of the World by the Devil (showing who owns and runs all the governments of this world) after he was baptised and went into the wilderness to fast for 40 days and 40 nights, he had the free will to accept that offer if he wanted to do his own thing instead of his father's just like Satan chose to rebel against God and by getting Adam and Eve to follow him he became ruler of this world we live in therefore, Christ's discipiles do not involve themselves in the politics of this world either. I understand that what people are most upset with is the hypocrisy, because this guy's political group is very anti men smoking other men's cigars and playing with their dice and they keep catching them doing it. The people that are upset however think it is ok for people to do anything with their bodies. People who excercise the many different views on these things will eventually answer to the one that Christ looked to please, the Creator of the Universe, all of the inteligent angels who have been faithfull to Him, all of the rebelious angels who run this world with Satan, and us, intelligent mankind who have the capacity for thought, reason, love, hate, peace, spirituality, to the point of eventually being in God's image like our forefather Adam was created, and living forever on this earth for most who lived in human history and eternal death for most now living who will die at Armagedon. In the future the earth's population of people who live forever will be made up of those who survive Armagadon, their offspring, and the people who lived throughout human history, who are brought back from death, and desire to live by the standards of our Creator. So you see your petty little political arguments will after making people suffer for the time period Satan will have been allowed to rule, will all come to an end.

Amazing similar that is to how EVERYTHING that has happened the last three years is still GWB's fault, isn't it? The only think BHO is apparently responsible for in that time frame is the death of Osama bin Laden.

Everything good that happens = Your political party

The truth is lost on probably 95% of the public who are incapable of actually understanding it but fully capable of going to their favorite Soros-funded blog or right wing radio show host....Even the Paulbots have nutty Alex Jones for their "truth". Scary!
