Wyoming lawmakers reject doomsday bill

CHEYENNE – Wyoming lawmakers have voted down legislation to deal with a doomsday scenario, including plans to buy an aircraft carrier and create a state currency.

According to the Star-Tribune in Casper, House Bill 85 was rejected 30-27 by the Wyoming House of Representatives on Tuesday.

The bill was originally created to form a state-run “government continuity task force,” to prepare Wyoming for potential disruptions in food and energy supplies after a complete breakdown of the federal government.

The bill gained national attention after its sponsor, Rep. David Miller, a Republican from Fremont County, pushed for plans for the state to implement its own military draft, standing army and purchase of an aircraft carrier.

The Republicans in Wyoming, especially Rep. David Miller, don't appear to be the sharpest pencils in the box. Nothing quite like an aircraft carrier that would have cost $4.5 billion in 2000 for a land locked state with Yellowstone Lake being the largest lake at 20 miles by 15 miles.

I agree with Get a Clue -- the scariest thing is that it only lost by three (3) votes. Has America lost its mind? We used to laugh at stuff like this. Now, we're putting people in office who take these things seriously and see nothing wrong with spending tax dollars on these outrageous issues.

All I can say is, that the 1% must be looking down on the little people and laughing their azzes off at this insanity!

A national emergency, like in the event that the Yellowstone super volcano exploded? I think Wyoming need not concern itself. Allow these worries to be the responsibility of the living.

Wonder how much it would cost to ship and aircraft carrier 1000 miles over land? That package alone would fix all of the US Postal Services money issues for 100s of years.

You up north types have no clue. as far as an aircraft carrier, yeah that is way off track. the democracts and nonconservative republicans are running us into the ground.

Sorry to hear guys it sounded like a good idea! BUT the government is a bunch of pricks we voted into office... Just vote them out when they make decisions THEY want to make... Anyways the point here is that something is about to go down with our government if you look at everything they are preparing to take full control over the people... They added that the military can shoot and kill you if they feel the need.... Prices of things keeps going up there is no stop... OBAMA = HITLER REBORN....... Always remember this though.... The idiots we put into office can also be taken out of office by the people. They have no power without us..... Bear Arms and get prepared for what is about to come!

You obviously need to brush up on your history. If Obama was Hitler, then the country would be in a lot worse condition. Now granted, he has made some mistakes, but he doesn't go around with a Secret Police force at his disposal to kill people who break the law. Sounds like you're a very fascist Republican; a Neo-Nazi if you think that. So go back to Wyoming or wherever you're from and vote for Paul- I heard he had a great 8% of votes in Arizona last night!

Last time I checked it was Wyoming legislatures that wanted this ship not Obama and I don't want a useless ship in Wyoming paid by our tax dollars so I think the legislatures made the right decision. If there is a war comming, it would be of nuke, fighter jets are not going help in any way. If Obama= Hitler Reborn, we would all not be complaing about finding work becasue we would be slaving in a camp. Arm yourself to fight the government? Even if the government was turing against us in a Hitler like maner (It is against us economically, favor few over the whole), use our guns? If the government was truly against us I want to see how good your gun is against snipers, tanks, and predator missiles falling at you from the sky.

Have you been to any of the meetings for MY state about this subject? As for me, I have. It's too bad that this didn't get passed because at least my state is willing to stand up for itself against the federal government and take care of its own people. Instead of making stupid childish remarks about something you don't have full knowledge of, why don't you start asking your state what they are going to do to take care of its residents if/when SHTF?

Gil, nowhere in my comment did I state that Wyoming didn't rely on Federal government programs. No state in America runs without some form of help from Uncle Sam. I said that Wyoming was willing to stand up against the Federal government and take care of its own people. Meaning, that if or when SHTF the state would take care of its own people. Every state, in theory, should be doing more to take care of their own residents...at all times. And the backwards trailer comment, really? I left grade school a long time ago, name calling is just pathetic. I do have to agree with the air craft carrier being ridiculous. We do have some nice sized lakes her, but not for that.

I liked the idea of thinking more about state self reliance, and preparedness, for times of natural (or man-made) disasters, contagion outbreak.. Heck even something like a radioactive cloud from a reactor mishap (Japan type thing) isnt unthinkable. At 1st I thought the carrier thing was stupid... but werent carriers called "floating cities" (something like that) .... a old cheap one that would have been scrapped might be a cool thing to keep emergency stocked.. waterproof shelter w/ self contained hospital, communications, storage, mess hall etc... could be a good bug-out destination.

Actually they CAN. The slant here was based on the aircraft carrier part but a state making CONTINGENCY plans for WORST case events is part of what ALL government agencies should be doing. Someone went a bit off the deep end with the aircraft carrier but having a PLAN is better than say what happened on Katrina. Both the STATE and the FED had NO plan in that event.

I for one would like to know the reasoning on an aircraft carrier. Perhaps the idea being a portable nuclear reactor to generate power?

Agreed. Totally. Remember the Ant and the Grasshopper.

Too bad, would have loved to stop at Port WYoming to fuel up the yacht instead of having to cruise all the way down to Panama just to go from the Pacific to the Atlantic, Well maybe on next years vote this will pass when gas is at $5 or higher. LOL

Americans refuse to accept the fact that we are headed straight for bankruptcy and the collapse of the federal govt. The refusal to see what is there to be seen has become a way of life. Even basic has been rendered politically incorrect. America is a house divided into dem and rep herd intellects with a resultant impotent federal govt. America is the largest debtor nation in the wordl ai 15.3 trillion dollars. Our annual budget deficits are 1 trillion dollars per yr. Impending financial bankruptcy and austerity programs are not even a mayor campaign issue. Americans are fixated on their libido(gay marriage, abortion and contraception). If we stated that our reckless spending and borrowing involved the lidido, we would take bankruptcy seriously.

I'd hardly call equal rights for all, gays included, a fixation. Nor would I say we are fixated on women's reproductive rights. Some may be, but they are mostly men. Probably the same ones fixated on not granting equality to gays.

Most of your statements make no sense. Perhaps it 's your libido that's not taken seriously?

realistically- bankruptcy??? seems like our assets (land, mineral rights, buildings, equipment including aircraft carriers) far, far, far, far (repeat 20 or 30 times) exceed all projected debt, entitlements... regardless of what anybody says, we still have a lot more in the bank (so to speak) than we have bill due.

You are worried about bankruptcy but you support someone who wants to spend 22billion or more on an aircraft carrier for a landlocked state? Really? oh, you just wanted to bash those who are different, i see, continue on, I will just ignore you.

So you're claiming we have 15 trillion dollars in assets sitting around? Probable...if we sold them all. I don't buy that we have an aditional $105 trillion in assets to cover unfunded liabilities.

Republicans get wackier and wackier. I can't believe 27 idiots voted for the bill. They want to cut everything and foot a bill for an army.

I was just wondering. Someone said they might use the carrier for emergency nuclear power. When someone buys a carrier from the Navy, do they deliver?

Instead of wasting money on a airplane carrier, why not spend that money educating the low informed?
