A tornado in North Carolina pulled three children from their home, flinging one onto a busy highway. WCNC-TV's Michelle Boudin reports.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A 7-year-old boy who was sucked from his home by a tornado on Friday and dropped 350 feet away on the side of an interstate is home from the hospital, recovering from his injuries.
Jamal Stevens suffered only minor injuries from the twister that demolished his family's two-story home in Charlotte near Interstate 485, where Jamal was found by his family a few minutes after the twister struck his neighborhood.
"I've never seen or heard anything like that," said Patricia Stevens, recalling the moment the twister "sucked out the walls" of the house in the darkness. "It was a terrible sound. I never want to go through that again. I don't want anyone to ever go through that again."
At the house, whose second story was blown away, little was left except for a garage and an exposed internal staircase. Pink insulation and debris littered the yard, which abuts the embankment of the interstate.

Stevens said that she had been sleeping on a downstairs sofa the night the tornado hit while her daughter-in-law and four young grandchildren, ages 3 through 7, slept upstairs.
The lightning and thunder suddenly picked up, there was a terrible noise, and then her daughter-in-law started passing the children down the stairs to Stevens, starting with 3-year-old twins Ashley and Amber.
When the mother ran back upstairs to get Jamal and 5-year-old Ayanna, Stevens pulled herself and the children behind the couch.

The Stevens' home was demolished by a twister in Charlotte, N.C.
"That's when the whole wall was just sucked out," Stevens said. "I was just sitting there and I just saw the walls get sucked out. I was like, 'Wait a minute, am I seeing this right?'"
She yanked open the bathroom door, thinking of the safety measures she'd heard on TV about gathering the children and crouching in the tub, but the door was all that was left.
"As they say go to the bathroom, I opened the door, the bathroom was gone, totally gone," she told WCNC.com, a local NBC station.
She then covered the twins and raced to find Jamal and Ayanna, both of whom had been sucked out of the home.
Little Ashley was unscathed. Her twin sister, Amber, was found under the rubble in the living room, alive but injured. Ayanna had been hurtled into a neighbor's yard.
"Then they had the flashlight out the back trying to find Jamal. He's not in the yard, but we could hear him and we kept saying can you stand up, can you stand up?" said Stevens.
Jamal had been swept onto the embankment of the interstate, Stevens said.
The children were taken to Levine Children's Hospital where Jamal was treated and released, a hospital spokesman said. Two of his sisters were held for observation and released on Sunday.
"The kids this afternoon were in pretty good spirits," said Phil Whitesell, spokesman for the Carolinas Healthcare System, adding that their mother had been weeping earlier in the day.
"She was obviously very thankful that her kids were safe," he said. "I think they were all pretty anxious to be together."
Stevens was waiting on Sunday to see her daughter-in-law for the first time since the twister destroyed the home. Jamal's biggest concern, she said, was that his beloved Xbox video game console didn't survive the storm.
Patricia went back to the house Saturday afternoon and says looking at it proves it’s a miracle they all made it out.
"I looked at the house and started crying, I couldn’t believe we got out of there," she told WCNC.com.
As the nation's midsection recovers from deadly twisters, it is now also dealing with large amounts of snow. NBC's Lester Holt reports on the tornado devastation.

That boy will always have the ultimate roller coaster ride story. His nickname should become Twister.
I sure hope he makes it. God Bless.
Lucky! Some others in their position lost their lives!
quote from article:
I think he'll be just fine... :)
WOW, that is amazing!!
Wonderful ending to a scary story........I was also thinking that he will go throughout his life with interesting nicknames but at least he thankfully will be able to continue with a future unlike that unfortunate baby that did not have the same good fortune
This young kid is truly blessed. Glad to hear he is ok.
Or LUCKY !
Lucky is not the word, that includes the entire family.. Young man is smart too, think he will get a new game console from someone?? I hope they had insurance!! These days it is getting tougher to get and more expensive to keep..
If I was that boy, I should of worn diapers. The reason is that I would of crapped them.
The last big one that came through here carried a child about a quarter of a mile, only got some scratches.
I can't imagine how little man will handle the next storm front that comes his way.. Scared for life.!
I once went through the same thing, glad the boy survived! My experience was similar, except it was at Universal Studios I believe. I was waiting in line to play a game of "twister"--you know, that classic Hasbro game with colored dots and it makes you and other people twist together. Anyhow, before I could play even one game of that, a huge tornado touched down, I was so scared!
I'd buy that kid a new Xbox
Better to give them food clothes and shelter or donate to his education..
we should buy the xbox.
With adventure like that, who needs an XBox?
Amazing that the boy survived with all of the debris that's usually within a tornado. Lucky boy!
God has reached down and saved us all at one time or another!! I just hope this young man leads a blessed life, and we all get to realize the plan our father has for him, and how great it will be! It could be 30 years from now, but there will be a time in this human's life when God will use him to save someone else from a storm(or whatever they need saving from)!!
RAY......BIG AMEN to that .... GOD has big plans and does Big miracles .....GLORY to HIM for this family miracle ......
Yes, this family sure was lucky that God created a tornado that completely destroyed their house.
Moron.
You signed it correctly, Capt Jack, MORON!
Wow
I'm so glad all survived. What stories they will have for the rest of their lives. I hope they can recover both physically and emotionally. That boy will have one heck of a "show or tell" story.
How would you liked to have been the father of these children and get a phone call at work stating that the house where they were living was half gone.. Or worse yet being out of state or deployed half way around the world and getting the news.. I have seen the results of twisters hitting farms in Texas where they find cows in trees and miles from home still alive.. Can only imagine the number of people who have been sucked up and never found in tornado ally..
Jamal only suffered minor injuries, this young man is really something special. To bad He's to young to buy lottery tickets.
@ russ...it's sleeve, just being a critic.
@Fred... God has a different plan for everyone, some are taken and some live. If you're ran over by a car and it splatters your brains all over the pavement doesn't mean if someone else was hit and lived, you were robbed. Pray to "God" you're not that unfortunate.
@magnifico... You seem to know God as if you were a relative. In a class by yourself. Give yourself a hand. (I'm applauding)
@Marlene... Say it's not so! Marlene the "Marine?" Every Marine knows it's God first, then country. I think your statement is bogus. A Marine would never call God "sky-daddy." Are you serious?? An old Marine once said, "God was here before the Marine Corps. So you can give your heart to Jesus, but your ass belongs to the Corps." This one's for you fake Marine..... "WHERE'S YOUR HONOR, DIRT BAG? YOU ARE AN ABSOLUTE DISGRACE!!"
@Ed....you are a big silly billy! I like how you tell people they are wrong and you are right....as if you actually know the truth. You know only as much as the rest of us do...big poppa.
ed---. You seem to know God as if you were a relative. In a class by yourself. Give yourself a hand. (I'm applauding)
i could not find magnifico post...but he is a relative of god if he knows him...being he is a child of god. i hope at your demise god doesn't have to say "i never knew you".
ed----
sorry i just came across magnifico lame post. so i got my last post backwards.
My God! The little Guy has already been released from the hospital! What a Trooper, he is going to have some stories for his schoolmates! Jamal can FLY!!! Well all I can say is thank God the little guy is well and with his family, God has plans for this kid.
what a nightmare these folks lived through
must think of ways to protect people!
@Sylvia,
Storm Shelters??
really daniel - gods plan -what about the whole family that was blown to their deaths - and the dozens of others who were killed not to mention the victims they have not found yet - he was fortunate , he was lucky , which is great , i know it gives you the warm feeling of exalting a god but please saying a god saved this kid while he tore others limb from limb is ignorant and insulting to the victims who lost their lives - give it a rest
What should we say?
@Fred,
What Daniel says doesn't affect you in the least, now does it? You might give it a rest?
Number 1, Jamal can't fly...that is a physical impossibility. He was lifted and sucked out by a tornado! Secondly, God had nothing to do with what happened, so God does not have plans for Jamal. Again, it was the laws of physics that lifted Jamal. Will you please get real and come back to earth?
Lighten up Fred. It's nice to hear a good story after all the horrible ones we've read about.
@Daniel Amenl!
@dano I agree!
It's great to read about happy endings during these unfortunate tornadoes!
At least keep the preachin' in church. If your gonna wear your religion on your sleaves then you have to expect a few critical remarks. Deal with it....
Really? Why? I thought the thing was to be tolerant and open minded? Respectful of others and their beliefs.
Did you forget that part?
To Russ, Fred, and Magnifico the Great!
The comments above that you made are uncalled for. Some people believe in God and some don't. If you don't then keep your comments to your self. For those of us who do we will pray that all of these families get through this tough time. God does have a plan for us all. Sometimes we don't understand why things happen the way they do but if you trust in the lord you will have the strength to get through the tough times.
I pray for you non believers, that one day you will give your life over to Jesus Christ. I am not normally one to spread my beliefs on the internet like this but its not right for you to make these comments.
It is so much easier to believe that God does exist and science is not the answer to everything. My family was affected by the tornadoes Friday night here in Alabama. They are all OK but very grateful that it is in GODS PLAN for them to stay here for a little while longer.
God Bless!
terry -im annoying to you because i do not believe in your silly fantasies - ok - they still are made up fantasies - if the boy is muslim or a muslim boy is saved , is it still by the hand of your boy jc - oh and wait a minute dmanuel agrees with you - so you must be right - but lets be clear if jesus is who you say he is - he caused these storms , you want to argue that point
@Russ, we live in country where people are allowed to speak of their religion. It's not like they were trying to push their views on you. It's a free country so deal with it...
Fred, I never said I believed in anything. I just think you are a total a-hole and you should keep your mouth shut. By the way, I'm not really religous at all but I don't mind or belittle the people that are.
I find it amusing that non-believers seem to feel threatened when we invoke the blessings of God. What are they afraid of?
For those who believe, no proof is necessary. For those who don't, no proof will ever be enough.
God had his eye on this boy. Great things are in store for him
Janine,
I love your post and agree 100%...I'd much rather believe in god and be wrong, than not believe and be wrong?
terry- if i am an atheist and these religious zealots are running and ruining this country by stopping stem cell research ,gay marrige , womens reproductive rights , teaching science in school ,deny climate change and believe it is justified because the silly book they believe validates it - then bite me.......... i will push back and expose them as the delousional , hypcritical , lunatics they are so they are less relevant and are not to be taken seriously in the public arena - putting it another way if the same belief allows them to proclaim this boys survival as the works of jesus allows another nut to kill an abortion doctor well the that belief is just a crutch to pass judgement and lets them use that belief as a scapegoat ,and in reality lets them spew their own personnel prejudices- sorry you do not see that or feel that way but ..... too bad and once again bite me - the same way they can call every tender moment a miracle and ignore the horrors , i can call them insane for doing so -peace
Whatever. Take a toke or have a drink or something. You need to calm down a little. As I said, I'm not religous but I think people should believe in whatever gets em through the day.
I can't tell you if God saved this kid or if it was just dumb luck but either way it gives me a smile knowing he did survive. Thats good enough for me.
fair enough - as long as someones else's belief does not interfere with my day and left un checked i strongly feel they would want/do just that - thats all ( my rants) are about - apologize for the bite me remark - could have made my point without it -
@ terry amen
@ fred you need to get laid man!!! talk about disrespect!!!!
So it is God [pick one] when it is good and Satan [the one and only] when it is something bad that happens.. Or better yet it is Gods plan, I like that one as it covers all bases.. Believing in God [the creator of the universe] as a higher power is what I do, but to say everything is a direct result of his hand is extremist thinking.. Beware the cult of religion, Muslim or Christian or Hindu or whatever because your leaders can and will lead you astray because every worshiper knows theirs is the true religion all others are false.. I know a guy who believes the world is barely more than 5000 years old and will argue with you for hours about it.. Why does he think this way you ask?? Well he was taught this by the Shepard of his flock as he interprets the bible.. So many bad things have been done in the name of religion but the faithful either ignore them or blame the other guy...........
Hey Fred, the United States of America was created so that people could worship, and believe in whatever the f' they want to!! I served in combat to ENSURE we all continue to have the freedom of that choice! I don't pass judgement on you, and I'm seriously glad that you have an arena to voice your feeling's!! I believe in God, everything beyond that is still up for debate in my life!! One thing I'm SURE OF, is people like you should be glad people like me, with an extensive military background do believe in God! Otherwise, we would just take out big mouths who never have done anything, take your posessions, wife, house, and make you our slave b*&ch! Just go across the land taking, abusing, slaughtering, everyone, and everything!! Fortunately for you, you live in a country that is predominately built under the belief's of God! You are safe for now, go ahead and say a prayer,.........it's ok.......we won't judge you!!!!!!!!!!
God has nothing to do with this. There's no reason to apologize to people who spend so much time shoving their mindless BS down other people's throats. When christians learn how to respect others, they'll start getting respect. Until then, f*ck 'em.
Stonedog34-how exactly did the orginal poster show you disrespect or try and shove their beliefs down your throat?
Ray,
Great post, and thank you for your service.
dano
I also served as a Marine, and I do not believe in a magical sky-daddy. If that gets you through the day, fine, but civilized people CAN behave decently because they wish to live in a world where people behave this way and NOT because some "god" told them to do it. Overall, I find atheists much more tolerant and less hateful than so-called religious people who want to denigrate women and tell people whom they can and cannot marry.
Ray, thank you for your service to our country.
Stone, WHO on this blog tried to shove their beliefs down your throat? I haven't seen any of that. Sound a bit paranoid honey. Seems to me it's been the non-believers who have been shoving their (non) beliefs down our throats here as they say that it wasn't God who saved this child.
Personally I don't try to force my faith upon anyone. I feel sorry for the non-believers. I have felt the "touch" of God in my life many times. I'm sorry that you and others have never had that experience.
FRED....? DANIEL praises who he believes in ........YOU praise who you believe in .....SIMPLE as that.....
GOD works in misterious way ....we as believers have un explanation even in a sorow. Those who lost their battle on this earth, they are in the right place .....if they choose to before departure.......SO think about it.....now.....GOD bless you 'cause LUCK.....? I'm not sure......
marlene - cool zonnia -how you make the jump from my beliefs and thoughts on beliefs and how they impact our/mine lives to ones sex life shows you do not understand the importance of this issue - do you see what is going on out there these religious nuts who praise miracles are the same people that will outlaw birth control if the could - i want my daughters to have access to birth control - i do not want them to detour their lives because they get pregnant when they do not want to - that is my /their right - so if i can contest aand show how totally ignorant and out of touch these people are with reality and how extreme they are i will do so - dont care what they believe - they have no respect for what i believe what they are on the side of a silly cult so that makes them right - no sorry
OOh I forgot that escape phrase " God works in mysterious ways" when a whole bunch of people die and destruction is everywhere..
I'd like to send this kid a new Xbox.
That would be awesome if someone could actually find out where he was staying and send him one!
@Hank I'd chip in!
Sounds like he be better served if you send him a new bathroom. What the heck is he going to do with a new XBox now???
Great! A new X-Box. Now if he only had a wall socket with electricity to plug his X-Box into. And maybe a T.V. to hook it up to. And perhaps a couch to sit on. And a refrigerator to keep some cold drinks in.
Idiot.
I took the XBox comment to be facetious, thats why i voted for it.
I have been wrong on many occasions.
All that comes to mind right now is...Wow
It's so uplifting to hear these wonderful stories. We've been surrounded by too much negativity lately. I'm so happy that you're going to be okay, Jamal, you little cutie!
God was with him! Great to hear he is OK....he has a purpose that he is meant to complete here on earth.
jesus just spared your life young man
haleujah.
I'm guessing Jamal has a greater awareness of what was going on between him and God or Jesus or whomever at that point in time than you do. By all means, keep Jesus in YOUR heart but let others have the same freedom of choice and judgement over themselves. I'm so glad the whole family is ok!
@ Moses
jesus just spared your life young man
...and took the lives of those other, apparently unworthy, people.
They weren't unworthy...they had done what they came to do, and went on to their eternal reward. They are in a better place than they were before, most likely. Or, they rejected God and went on to a worse place. Death is not a punishment, as long as you're headed the right direction!
For you, though, Fred...I can understand why you fear death and consider it something bad! You should do some studying on near death experiences...it might bring you comfort and acceptance. God is there, but He doesn't force you to believe...that is your decision. You have free will.

@Sylvia,
Storm Shelters??
I live in this area and what the story does not tell is that there were no sirens that sounded to inform the area that there was a tornado forming. The national weather center said that the reason was that the tornado formed too fast to issue an alert. God took care of that family despite not having a warning issued.
juneclco - i do not know what to say ,IF I feared death then i would find something to believe in so i would have an eternal life as you call it - you and your buddies are the ones who fear death because you latch onto fairy tales and books wrtten thousands of years ago that gives you that so called salvation - thats why you believe to give you that hpoe of eternal life - i do not fear death , i will live my life the best i can not knowing, caring,or understanding what happens ......... because not my concern , not under my control , was not my choice to be here was born like the rest of us . do i hope we go to a another place a better place , of course i do - but not going to live this life worrying about it - i believe it is no way to actually live this life , simple as that - then you are living by the beliefs you are told - and things happen, a god is not pulling any strings, something or someone started this ride 14 billion years ago - im afraid they just stepped back and now are just watching the show
What happens is God's [pick one] will.. Great all occasion catch all phrase.. So if this young man Jamal [an Islamic name] is raised Muslim and his "special purpose" is to detonate a nuke that kills millions of Christians or Jews would that still be a good thing or just God's will??
What if God decides your stupidity is worth a tornado that doesn't drop you off unharmed. And the sooner the better I might add.
"Oh BTW, yeah, here's little Jamal; he was just sucked up by a tornado last weekend." Say hi Jamal."
Huh???
I'm still amazed.
May I just say , that you are all being very disrespectful of Jamal and his family who just escaped a possible death, What is wrong with you people just be glad the are unharmed and get off your soap boxes!
jesus just spared your life young man
haleujah.
moses - if you get a chance scroll up and read 5.3 - think you will see where i stand - but since you brought this savior of yours into the picture - so let me gets this straight - your boy jc sat in his mighty perch watched or caused this horrific event - then decided to land this boy safely WHILE killing other kids and namely having that little girl survive enough to give hope , when actually there was none and then let her die - that would have been a nice miracle too - one question, well actually i could propose many questions but do you ever stop to think how totally insane and out of touch with reality you sound ?
Shut up Fred, you're annoying and an a$$hole.
@Moses & @terry - Agreed!
Praz da lawd, praz da lawd....
@moses, terry, & dmanuel: Ditto !!
Fred and Russ would be what I define as TROLLS. They go around to the interne and jump on everyone that doesn't believe as they do. If you'll notice, they are pretty much the first to start with the negative comments. They begin to to stir the pot. As people begin to speak against them, they then begin with the name calling and potty mouth language. You know what guys, you go right ahead and say what you want, because the way the present yourselfs will NOT make me change my beliefs. In fact, I feel sorry for you because you are so full of hate and angry. I would be miserable if I had to live your life.
@Amanda,
I believe you just nailed it.
Dopes.
It's good to see all the positive comments but when I see the word lucky, it's still amazes me that people never give God the Honor, Praise, and the Glory. How many terrible things will we have to go through before we recognize him for who he is. Every coin has two sides, and so is life, some of us are still alive and some are dead. Luck has nothing to do with these things. God is able to defend and he is able to destroy and he says so in the scriptures. I'm not trying to preach or anything but these things happen and there is nothing man can do about. I just thank God for saving the lives of the whole family and I am awe at how he took up this young boy and sat him to safety. That's just how awesome God is and I love him more and more everyday. So those of you who have to always say something negative, You need to give God thanks cause it could have been your family.
you know i was not even going to waste my time with this group , but what the hell , marlene and all - you believe and put your faith in a book that is fantasy - you may believe in it , but its not real, because i see that as clear as day i am a dope - i have no negative comments that this boy survived that is wonderful just that some of you think a god did it purposely ,which is impossible to be a good thing - for for you all to consider this a miracle ,so your god killed dozens you dont see that, not to mention the missing they will eventually find you dont see that ,the towns the homes the lives ruined forever you dont t see that - the child that they found alive only not to make it and you dont see that - you see the one single bid of good news out of this disaster and scream praise jesus - i call you on it and im the devil - priceless - you people only see what you want and call it what you will.... thats why your religious fanatics - man back in biblical times you guys got thrown to the lions for you faith , now a little friendly discussion and yiur cracking up - surly you can do better then calling me names - come on jc is watching
What a miracle, however, what about all those people who died, god does not love them, or loves them too much, or god wanted to teach them a lesson. what a bunch of baloney, get over it, if there is a god then pray to god to stop sending tornadoes.
For in the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, The just shall live by faith. For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without EXCUSE, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of God into an image made like corruptible man- and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.
all you said was blah-blah-blah-burp.
Donna, is that you preaching again???
I live in the area where these tornadoes decided to terrify us... it was horrifying to say the least. We were lucky though. I'm glad some of you hang onto your beliefs but I don't think religion had anything to do with this. It was just the way the cold and warm airs collided. We just happened to be in the path. Some people weren't so lucky, but a mobile home is NOT safe, and the family who elected to stay in theirs lost their lives. We had sirens blasting all around us, and the news coverage in the Tri-state area is the best in the nation. We had the warnings and some folks just didn't heed them. They paid with their lives.
Lucky, lucky boy!! What a miracle!
Oh, that poor little boy! It's nothing short of a miracle that he's alive!
Must be a special boy! Has a mission left to fulfill. Our prayers are with you--
He will grow up to become the President !
Or maybe just cause a bunch of teen pregnancies who knows.. Mom has several with no mention of Dad other than her dad.. Hallelujah....
People say that miracles do not exist anymore...well here is your miracle. Among all the tragedies and God bless those poor souls...God interceded and showed his hand. God does not perform chaos bout in the midst of chaos he sheds his light to give us hope for a new tomorrow!
“You KNOW it’s a myth. This season celebrate REASON!”
lisa marie oh lisa lisa lisa - where do i begin, firstly read 5.3 and 12.1 - a god did not intercede - dont tell me, fox news ,rick santorum , sarah palin fan- all delusional , brainwashed , narrowminded human beings holding on to and creating fantasy to deal with life -its not your fault ,some of us have evolved to common sense and reason and some have not - your post does not give you virtue like you think, it makes you look silly - in the mist of your chaos as you call it - he got lucky - good for him , but bad i guess for the ones who had their limbs ripped off - fyi your god is responsible for that as well - what a guy
So who's making the terrifying tornadoes, if not the omnipotent god?
Does he make them just to kill off a few of us and make the survivors more subserviant?
Does he enjoy a bowl of popcorn while doing it?
Please.
This kid was in the right place at the right time and he's a brave and high-spirited young man. He should be praised.
Fred you soud like you might be 13 years-old. Your statements are stale and unoriginal and yet you think you are being philosophical and wise. You aren't pulling it off well at all and just sound silly. You should be embarassed for yourself.
dave - wait ok you believe in taking snakes , men walking on water and coming back to life from a book written two thousand years ago ................... and i should be embarassed - priceless -not trying to be philosophical at all ...............just practical- if you believe all those things actually happened then you are insane simple ,end of story - you are living a lie
@Fred,
Please go Troll elsewhere now. We all know what you believe and what you don't. I won't make fun of you as you have others, I simply just pity you.
God Bless you and your family.
so i have to troll elsewhereas you say - but you get to post your lunacy why ? listen crazy person as much as you say you believe in this jesus guy and is the son of god - i feel just as strongly he is not.. and dont bless my family , you can call me a troll but blessing me is an insult ,you are not a human being with magic powers that has a direct line to some super spirit - you just think you do - you're no better the me you just think you are - ........ and thats why you believe - it makes you special doesn't it
Poor Fred. You have no clue. Yes, you have to go somewhere else now. Try 2nd grade.
God Bless you Fred and your family.
dave - you are amazing - so you are saying because i do not believe in talking snakes and people coming back from the dead i have to go back to 2nd grade - and in what grade or should i say what school did you learn all knowledge - because i believe in facts i need to go back to school - you believe in fairy tales and you are so much smarter then me -how about evolution how do you feel about that wacky concept - or does the magic garden make much more sense to you - how about global warming , the cause of all this weather in the first place , yoour going too deny that and all the science , scientist , and data and photos of the ice caps melting , to far fetched for you davey - gods up there watching over you pulling all the strings isnt he .what a tool - you are just one of the sheep my friend lost cowardly lowly sheep with no mind of your own - dano no god is blessing me , he does respect me though because im not buying into all this man made bs - and ill take my chances where i end up - peace
Fred -- I'm also an atheist, but you know what? It's not okay to mess with the things that are meaningful to other people. I'm not sure why some atheists are as evangelical as Christians. You and your attitude are just messed up.
kj - are you personelly going to speak to this bunch and tell them to stay away from stem cell reserach ' stop denying climate change , stop interfering in womens health care , stop hating gays , let science be taught in schools- they do these things carrying their silly cross and i am not alowed to question ? excuse me but i think killing a doctor because he provides leagl health to people is to use your words pretty messed up - what do you think kj - never heard of an atheist killing over their belief never heard of an atheist as a terriost car bomber have you- you're an atheist , why , there has to be a reason as far as im concerned your not living or acting like one , believe in evolution kj ? well if they had there way it would be illegal to teach - ok with that bunny
350 feet is longer than a football field. Amazing when you think of it in that perspective. Lucky little guy!
I wouldn't want anyone to go thru it either. But we do need to balance that thought with remembering people will go thru it again. And attempts to 100% eliminate the possibility of it happening to someone again are futile. So sad that this is the world we live in. I'm glad that in this story everyone was ok.
One of those rare and amazing stories that come from disasters like this. Great to hear that not only the little boy, but the rest of the family is ok!
He'll have something to talk about for the rest of his life.
Be sure to continue giving thanks to our almighty God, because your grand children, your children survived. Please give forever thanks to him, through Jesus christ perfect name. Remember to pray for the other familys who were not so fortunate across this nation.

Apparently Christians can spew anything they want anywhere. But if I were to say "im hoping for the people affected by the tornado" some idiot Christian would pipe up and go

PRAY YEW STOOPID EDDITET
If your god is so good, why did he let all this happen? BECAUSE HE'S A FAIRY TALE!
Zeus God Satan are all fairy tales.
The magical pink pony is the best ever though, ALL HAIL THE MY LITTLE PONY SERIES FOR TELLING THE TALES OF THESE BRAVE CREATORS OF OUR UNIVERSE.
I pray for all of you who do not believe in Jesus!
I know that you can not see the truth now but one day you will. God created us all. For some he has plans for us to stay here on earth and for others it is to join him in heaven. Everyone has been given the opportunity to have eternal life in heaven one day through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. It is your choice to accept it though. If you do not then you will surely burn in hell.
It is terribly hard for me not to believe there is a God. Sure I have many questions and one day all of those will be answered.
For you who don't believe stop and take a look at our society. Everything is based on the bible. Laws and government are constructed from beliefs in the bible. It is the absence of the church in this world that is causing all of the terrible things to happen. God does have wrath and shows it from time to time. If you do not believe in God and are still living then there is a reason for that. He has a plan for you!
There I have said my piece and done my part to share the truth about Jesus with you. What you do now is up to you. I pray that you make the right choice!
No, the bible is written by people, and most laws were established by our founding fathers, which were agnostic.
PROVE your god exists. THAT'S ALL IM ASKING.
If you take a look at all of Shut's posts you will find he/she only posts negative comments to other peoples posts. Never does he/she originate a thought. My opinion of this is he\she is the definition of a troll. It must be a lonely life when the only way a person can get attention is to constantly berate others with trite and threadbare comments that are being parroted by a troll. We should have pity on this person as the obviously negative posts are most likely the result of a lonely person who feels powerless in their world. We should pray for this person that they learn the virtues of tolerance, understanding, humility, and forgiveness by the time he/she grows up and joins the real world.
@vet airman,
Nice post. Thank You. God bless you and your family. For me life is just much easier to believe, rather than question everything that is good or bad that happens in this world.
This article was about a young man that had his life spared. I never understand why the God haters are so uncomfortable with that.
America has been given a great gift, Obama. If God had a hand in it, thank God.
What I don't like about people saying God saved him, is that by doing so, you are basically telling people who have lost loved ones, that God didn't think their loved ones deserved to be saved. Now, how would that make you feel?
Showing compassion does not equate with such a negative concept as yours. Each of us finds ways to deal with grief and loss. If you've lost a loved one I pray you're able to find peace in what ever way you see fit.
I've lost many, many dear loved ones. I did not blame God for taking them. One dear niece died in a car accident, with one survivor. So, we should assume the four dead were not worthy of living and praise God for the life of the survivor? I think not! If He decides, how does He choose? Eeeny, meeny miny mo? One potato, two potato? Maybe rock, paper scissors? What if Jamal is a Buddhist? Would not Buddha have chosen then?
Ironically god discriminates just like man!
'Not in Kansas anymore...' grab those ruby slippers!
God creates all, like it or not. You can believe it or choose not to believe it. Just because people died doesn't mean God didn't love them. We don't always understand why things happen. Why did some die and some not? We don't have that answer; only God does. God is the one with the plan even though we may to understand it at times.
Who would want to be such a control freak?
It isn't being a control freak. It's the way it is!!!! You don't have to believe. No one's asking you to either.
That's such a blanket statement, I want EVIDENCE that your incarnation of 'god' creates everything.
Even if we ignore all scientific evidence for things like evolution we're still left with one question.
Why YOUR idea of god? Why not zeus, or a magical floating lawn gnome? Or the magical pink pony.
The magical pink pony is way cooler god than yours by the way.
My vote is for the Mighty Lawn Knome, Hail.
The idea that God is a worthy recipient of our gratitude for the blessings of life but should not be held accountable for the disasters is a transparently disingenuous innovation of the theologians. And of course it doesn’t work all that well… All the holy texts and interpretations that contrive ways of getting around the problem read like the fine print in a fraudulent contract — and for the same reason: they are desperate attempts to conceal the implications of the double standard they have invented.
Too bad you feel that way Master Bob. I don't need to prove anything to you. Neither of us will change our minds anyway. I have all the EVIDENCE I need and that's what I care about in the end. So glad that Jamal is okay. I hope we can ALL agree that his survival is the important thing.
Oh master bob, such a foolish thing you say. Why would anyone need to prove anything to you, especially a god? You, of course, are like all the other atheists, that carry an air of superiority. You may not even mean to, but the who "show me proof" argument is enough for someone to think that.
A few billion people believe in a being that has a similar properties to each of the other gods being worshiped, but all of them acknowledge a holy entity. Albeit, each have their own image, which is giving to the entity to what they believe easier to grasp. Because there is no way for a human to have such understanding what lies beyond.
You want proof that a magical pink pony (see what I mean by the arrogance you atheists have) created anything, look around you. Everything in existence got it's start from a moment in time that cannot be explained. By all means, begrudge the bible for inserting text that may not be historically accurate, and decry religion. However, we are in a mass of life (the universe) in the middle of an enormous black emptiness for no known reason. The absence of any reason, or proof, should be proof enough that there is something greater than us (I know that may be hard to imagine, for an atheist) that is at work, and we won't know it until we are gone.
Hopefully, there is some point between now and then in which we discover why are here, but I'm sure we will never know. We can just keep the faith, and move ahead.
