Georgia Senate OKs banning illegal immigrants from colleges

Georgia's Senate on Monday overwhelmingly approved a bill to ban illegal immigrants from attending any of the state's 60 public colleges.

The state could join Alabama and South Carolina as the only ones with such a law, provided Georgia's House also approves the bill.

The outlook for passage there was not clear, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported, as the bill has yet to pass out of committee.

Georgia is among six states -- the others are Arizona, Alabama, Indiana, South Carolina and Utah -- that have passed broad laws cracking down on illegal immigrants.

yes about time we need to stop letting illegals from having the same rights a LEGALS. Deport all Illegals that have not started their way to being legal. No excuse, no exception. They all cry but only if they get caught or think they will get caught, i would too. is there an excuse if i rob a bank, i think not. If they want to stay then they will have to pay back ALL OF THE COST OF THE EDUCATION AND ANY PUBLIC MONEY THEY RECEIVED IN ANY FORM SUCH A HOUSING,FOOD, HEALTH, EDUCATION then we can talk about a way to being a citizen. If they use someone else social security number and caused any problems then will never be allowed to have citizenship. They would not be allowed to use the excuse that they did not know it was someone else number because they knew it was not theirs, so again no excuse.

this is utterly absurd!!!

more signs that the fabric of society is crumbling;

this country was founded on immigrants; everyone in this country is an immigrant except for the native americans.

how dare this so called great democracy<that we force on other countries>, even consider such things?? what happened to equal rights???

this is why i dont vote & i get reminded each day of the reason

our ancestors were told lies of this country and its opportunities & the lies continue until this very day.. marine corps veteran/ there was no one more red, white & blue than me; i loved guns unconditionally; but all this changed after combat/ i dont want anything to do with guns or this country for that matter;i have given everything up for the Lord God with no regrets and i haven't looked back..

certain times like this i just want the Lord to come quickly because i'm getting homesick & just in case you read this and are not spiritually sound, i dont mean my house with walls, doors, ceilings; i originated with God and soon i will return in His time

praise God in all that you do// inner peace before outer peace // shalom

Close the border to Mexico now.

      Deport all illegal aliens now.

Ban all illegal aliens from ever becoming a U.S. citizen.

Jealously protect our border to Mexico now.

End all government benefits and programs for illegal aliens now, we can't afford it.

Allow the border patrol to return fire when under attack, even from across the border. Use our military to back them up, and to pursue into Mexixo whenever we are under attack.

Execute those smuggling drugs into the United States.

Make English the official language of the United States.

Detain illegal aliens who return illegally offshore on islands separated by gender for no less than 5 years, no visitation, no communication, no medical or dental unless life threatening illness should occur.

Meanwhile, on the jobs front, they've done exactly nothing.

I sincerely doubt that any other country would allow illegal immigrants to attend their public or even private universities. Illegals pay no proper taxes, keep wages low for low-skilled jobs (thus keeping American citizens and legal foreign residents from having decent pay) and use many government services without paying for them. In addition, many illegals bring illnesses into the country (in order to legally immigrate, one must undergo a very thorough medical examination) and often are criminals (again, legal immigrants must provide police records).

The taxpayers, both citizens and legal foreign residents (who pay the same taxes as citizens) are sick of these people breaking our laws and getting away with it and taking our money.

Like we all say...take their "freebies" away and they will go away too!!! Congrats to South Carolina and Alabama for having the guts to stand up for legal Americans rights.....Illegals really need to understand that they have no rights in this country....keep taking away their freebies.....everyone....

if we could just get rid of all the illegals then maybe the unemployed american citizens would have a chance at finding work.

Too little too late. Illegals are here to stay until the next amnesty (then they won't be illegal anymore). Then several million more illegals cross the border in anticipation of the next amnesty. Then the US can make Spanish the official language! Neither democrats nor republicans are willing to enforce the current law let alone pass any restrictive new immigration laws so don't expect anything to be passed and actually enforced.

Republicans talk a great talk but nothing was done under a republican house or republican presidency other than the failed "amnesty bill".

What can you expect from a bunch of senators, most of whom share the same last name? They don't want too many educated Latinos in their state. Next thing you know, Billy Bob and Cooter will be out picking watermelon instead of hanging out at the gas station.

Well at least ONE state has the right idea!!!! Here in CA "Gov Moonbeam" is not only letting ILLEGALS into the tax funded colleges---but giving then scholarships!!!

As a CITIZEN--my kids don't qualify for anything---decent grades---but no scholarships, not particularly athletic--no scholarship there and I make enough to just be above the "cutoff" for financial aid. Oh ya and I speak ENGLISH, have a drivers license with my picture on it and have insurance on my car.

I wish Michigan, and all of our states would do the same. It is unfair that my tax dollars support illegal immigrants when United States citizens are turned away.

I think we should do everything in our power to insure that the undocumented folks are as uneducated as possible. Make sure the only things they can do to make a living are picking our food crops and crime.
