Louis "Skip" ReVille is accused of 22 counts including criminal sexual conduct with a child, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years, lewd acts on a child and disseminating obscene material.
CHARLESTON, South Carolina -- A former South Carolina school principal and youth coach was indicted Tuesday on 22 counts of sexually molesting boys, including some at The Citadel military college summer camp, five years after the college investigated the man but took no action.
The indictment was the latest of a string of sex abuse accusations involving university or youth coaches across the country since November.
A grand jury indicted Louis "Skip" ReVille for molesting and showing obscene materials to 15 boys in Charleston County, South Carolina, Ninth Circuit Solicitor Scarlett Wilson announced on Tuesday.
The 22 counts include criminal sexual conduct with a child, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years, lewd acts on a child and disseminating obscene material.
NBC station WCBD-TV reported that the boys claimed they were molested since 2002 while they were between the ages of 11 and 16 years old.
'Intense investigation'
ReVille was arrested last October on child sex charges in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina where he was a school principal. He had also worked as a children's sports coach at several schools and community recreation centers, police said.
"As you can see with the number of victims that were involved, the number of activities that were involved, this has been an intense investigation," Wilson said at a news conference.
ReVille's lawyer did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
According to Charleston's local Post and Courier newspaper, Reville is a married father of three.
ReVille's case first drew national attention when The Citadel announced shortly after the Penn State University sex abuse scandal erupted in November, that it had erred in failing to tell police about the allegations against ReVille in 2007.
According to WCBD the trials are expected to start by the end of June this year.
Among other sex abuse cases, a grand jury in November indicted a former Penn State football coach for serial sexual abuse of boys. A former Syracuse University basketball coach was accused of sexually abusing ballboys, and the former president of the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) was accused of abusing youth basketball players years ago.

All of the coaches have declared their innocence.
In 2007, a former Citadel summer camper said that five years earlier, when he was 14, ReVille invited him and another camper to his room, showed them pornography on his computer, and they masturbated.
ReVille, a graduate of The Citadel, worked as a counselor at the school's camp for three summers between 2001 and 2003.
The Citadel released documents on its internal investigation and the college's president expressed regret that school officials had not reported the allegations to police.
"I am saddened and sickened that someone so close has betrayed our trust," Citadel President John W. Rosa told a news conference in November.
Military college 'sorry' about sex abuse inaction
Wilson said Tuesday that The Citadel had no legal obligation to report the suspected inappropriate behavior and that its officials would not be charged with failure to report it.
"The Citadel is encouraged by the progress that's been made in the investigation and it will continue to cooperate completely in any ongoing investigation," Dawes Cooke, attorney for the college, said on Tuesday.
In 2006, the school paid a $3.8 million judgment in a civil suit filed by five former campers who said they were sexually assaulted by Marine officer and camp counselor Michael Arpaio. Arpaio was court-martialed for the crimes by the U.S. Marine Corps and served time in Charleston's Navy Brig.

Taking advantage of children (pedophilia) is a sickness unto itself; can't prove it but I do not believe it stems from other "attributes" of human personality. It crosscuts the entire human race. These folks are sick in a way that make us thankful we are "normal." how does a story about child molestation devolve into a debate about sexual orietation. Pedophilia is a sexual orientation of it's own. There is no gender identification with regard to pedophilia. It is not a gay issue so get that topic off the table. The issue here, sadly, is not the molestation of these boys, Rather it is the institutions inaction. Once again we have a man molesting children, his employers know about it, and they did nothing. Nothing. Just because a guy is married, doesn't mean he's hetro. Pedophiles may not have a gender preference, but some clearly do. Sandusky molested boys, exclusively, yet he is married. As a matter of fact, I've known three (3) men who professed to be straight, married females, and later divorced when they came out of the closet.
There's enough of this sickenss to go around for all -- straight, bi, gay, or whatever. One of my former best friends was a gay. I accompanied him to the Gay Pride Parade in SF (back in '98). What did I see proudly marching in the Gay Pride Parade carrying a huge banner? NAMBLA!! I turned to my friend asked, "WTF?" He told me, "Everybody has a right to express themselves." I terminated our friendship, not because he's gay, but because I realized we did NOT share the same values, as I thought we did.
Do I believe that all gay men share the same opinion? No, but it made me question a lot of things. I was very disappointed in the gay and lesbian community who thought it was okay for these sick people to march in their "Gay Pride Parade" and to openly express their desire to engage in sexual activities with children --- which essentially amounts to rape. Like the Balkan Wars, the Penn State case was the powder keg, it exploded and more and more people are stepping forward. Years ago, this was unheard, but men are seeing that it isn't shameful and they will demands a fair justice.

I think kids being molested has always been around. However, kids these days are being educated. Kids are told to 'TELL a trusted adult', and more and more kids are doing so. This creep needs to be put away, far away from society.
If this man or anyone else who is accused of abusing children is without a doubt guilty they should immediatley be put to death.However if he/she confesses and will tell authorties the names of all the children who they molested then they would be allowed one year of life for each confession. Then these children should receive whatever help they need to be able to deal with what happened to them, they also should be watched very carefully as it has been shown that once abused there is a chance they could become an abuser also. Well, this definitely sickens me. I have to say that if parents do their job by talking and parenting their children so that IF something happens to their child(ren) they could come directly to their parents without fear of anything and inform them of the wrongdoings. Why are these children not telling their parents? Because this generation is being left alone to fend for themselves. that is very very sad. Parents dont seem (not all) to leave the child to deal with things themselves and seemingly "dont have time" for their drama. Parents: TAKE the time to talk to your children so they will not hesitate to come to you about ANYTHING.
If the kids dont understand if something is wrong, especially if a parental figure or adult they "trust" convinces them that it was "right", then they continue to become the abused victim without truly knowing what is going on. Then when they find out, they have to live with the guilt and shame of the events.

My partner was repeatedly sexually abused as a child in the late 50s at a summer camp. There was more than one abuser and most of them were married men with kids. Multiple children were abused over many years.
Things like this happened in the 1950s too but in those days the kids were told not to talk about it or were outright called liars! Many of the kids (partner included) were to embarrassed, confused or scared to say anything.
So take off those Rosy glasses and realize much of what people decry today was going on back then too. People just covered it up and never talked about it. Everyone has a story of a girl who got sent to relatives when she got knocked up, men that cheated on their wives etc....

It appears as though we have a new generation teachers who are child molesters and our society can do nothing about it. It'sbecoming as American as apple pie - how sick is this! We have a country where you can have sex with anyone with mutual consent, and yet we have these crimes committed against under-age children. First it was all the Catholic priests and fathers, and now every week we have news about these sex addict teachers getting caught by performing illicit sexual acts on school children. If you cannot trust your child's teacher who do you turn to? Obviously, you cannot give up your career to guard your children...
I feel awful about those teachers who have dedicated their lives in giving everything they have while educating our children for decades.
Its clear now that our society is in a moral decline and there is no turning back...
Pedophilia is NOT about freedom. There are countries where children are deliberately sold into prostitution for Westerners (Europeans and U.S. alike) to use as they see fit.
Many of those countries are at best Dictatorships and at worst Military run.
There are other societies where men and women are segregated for so-called "religious" reasons, thereby leaving young boys to be "stand ins".
It's not just in the US this dreadful stuff happens - it's just that most Americans consider sex abuse of youth to be "wrong", and it hits the news. Other countries' citizens allow it to happen - or for young girls (like Saudi Arabia - that 8 year old sold by her dad to pay a debt) just marry them off. Ugh.

How does an institution like the Citadel issue the statement "The Citadel had no legal obligation to report the suspected inappropriate behavior"???? Really - supposedly a place that people REALLY want their kids to attend. Where's your morals/ethics - not to mention your conscience Citadel? MSNBC's research and reporting is of limited quality i expect they omitted quite a few relevant facts....its likely the citadels internal investigating lead no where and thus they did not report it to the authorities,..sex abuse is often very difficult to investigate because victims are hesitant to talk (in particular male victims)...it usually takes some catalyst to get things rolling....but it also could be a situation like what happened at Penn state,...a cover up,...but i doubt that...we'll just have to wait and see if are any indictments made against the citadels officials,... if there is no legal obligation on the part of the citadel to report sex abuse of children (somehow this seems factually inaccurate),...the parents and victims could file civil suit against them...if there was deliberate negligence.
Honest - It doesn't have anything to do with whether the abuser is military or not. This is an illness that can't be cured no matter what anybody says. The guilty should be given a fair trial and then isolated for life - no parole. I'm not looking for vengeance when I say that. We have to end this circle of violence that starts in our brain - not forgive - but life without parole, ever.

JerseyKat and Muddler fly are you trying to say that gay people are the ones molesting our children? Rape (that's what molestation is) is a crime of power not sex. If it was just sex you could get that anywhere and would not have to prey on women and children. It's having power over others and some people are so week a woman won't do so they seek out the most powerless person of all - a child. If what you're saying is true...that you have to be gay to molest little boys - what are you when you do it to a little girl just visiting? Maybe instead of looking to BLAME all gay people for the ills of the world you might want to figure out why so many of our men find it stimulating to hurt women and children and why our law makers (both sides) don't punish them more severely. This guy being married with kids was all a front. He's obviously gay. Gay or straight it's wrong to molest kids. He was probably abused himself when he was a kid and probably by a male. No one is born predisposed to molest innocent children, this was learned from personal experience, most likely.
Gladys: There appear to be several things you are not aware of:
1. Pedophilia has always bee a larger problem in our public schools than in the Catholic Church, regardless of the metric one uses (per Priest vs per teacher, per institution, etc.). Further, until recently the schools hid the pedophiles just as did the church, transferring them to other Districts rather than reporting the rape to the police. ABC News did a significant expose on this which I'm sure you can find by yourself.
2. Pedophilia is a far worse problem among the gay community than it is in the general population. You are correct - more child rapes are done by hererosexual adults, but this does not alter the fact that the RATE of pedophilia is 8 to 15 times higher among gays (statistically significant would be a mere 5%, not the 800% to 1,500% that is borne out in studies). It's a HUGE problem that is not helped by covering it up (just as the schools and Church used to do).
3. Pedophilia and sexual orientation are disparate issues. An adult male who has an attraction to young boys is both gay AND a pedophile. Again - covering up the problem, or denying it's existence, is no better when done by you than when done by Citadel.
4. One does not have to be gay to be a pedophile; not all gays are pedophiles ~~~ so, please stop with this diversion. It's crap. Deal with facts, please, including the fact that pedophilia is a big, big problem within the gay community.
Okay, anti-Catholic, anti-religion people, blame the Pope for this one. ALL child abuse is wrong, and ALL institutions that react to it inappropriately should be taken to task, but the rant that abuse by a priest is somehow worse than abuse by non-priests - because of the "moral" factor and breach of trust involved - is specious. Institutions like the Citadel have codes and expectations regarding morals and honor too, yet you will likely hear no one angrily suggest that it and other schools should lose their tax exemption or be shut down altogether, because of child abuse and coverup. The abuse of children crosses all lines, religious, secular, and racial, and is perpetrated by men and women. It is sick. Equally sick are some of the comments left here.
Child abuse is rooted in a lack of respect for others, and a "need" for "power" and control. The mindsets of those who advocate rape and violent death for sex offenders are part of the problem too. A mob mentality is every bit as abhorrent as is the mentality that says that the abuse of children is okay or negligible. It, like child abuse, is indicative of a widespread decline in the civility and order that separate us from other animals. The lot of us - whether abusing children, screaming for vengeance, engaging in gutter politics, or being generally unconscious of other people - have lost our way. I hope that we and our country find it again.
You also should add that the abusers start at the top of all professions and goes to the bottom. A abuser could be the judge themselves as well as the person who picks up your trash (not to downgrade this profession). Also I disagree with you about the punishment to these things called human beings who would abuse a child, I do not advocate torture but I would be the first to stick the needle in them if they are guilty, this must stop and I believe that the death of them would at least be a start.
Nik - The Citadel already got taken to task for its tax status, as they got public money - until they FINALLY admitted women. Of course, there was then a sexual harrassment issue soon after - probably by young men already abused themselves, it would appear.

Apparently these crotch-cannibals hang out in athletic departments for the opportunities it gives them to shower with prospective victims. In the schools there should be facilities for the students to use, and separate facilities for the faculty.
