A Seattle-area corrections officer has been charged with bigamy after his two wives learned about each other on Facebook, prosecutors say.
Alan O’Neill, 41, married his first wife in 2001, when he was known as Alan Fulk, according to The News Tribune of Tacoma. The couple split up eight years later, and Fulk moved out, but the pair never divorced, the newspaper reported.
Last December, he reportedly petitioned to have his name changed to O’Neill before marrying his second wife.
The first wife allegedly learned about the second wife when Facebook recommended the two women become “friends,” Prosecutor Mark Lindquist told The News Tribune.
O’Neill, who has worked as a Pierce County corrections officer for five years, has been placed on administrative leave and is scheduled to appear in court March 22 on the felony charge.
Lindquist told the newspaper that the first wife alerted authorities to the dual marriages after he asked her to keep quiet about it while he fixed the situation.
Apparently, she wasn’t convinced.
“It’s not the crime of the century, but it is a crime,” Lindquist told the newspaper.

Since they were separated for a long time, it should just be dropped as long as the first wife and he officially divorce. As for bigamy, states are allowing same sex marriages now. Bigamy should be legal as long as all are consenting adults and in agreement and sign documentation to that effect.
TRAIN WRECK!!
He can marry another man and thats OK, but two women is a crime????? Come on.
Now he's going to have a new husband in prison. I don't care about polygamy and if it's consensual it should just be legalized but since he's a corrections officer that kept it secret, good. I just hope he has a hell of a time being locked up.
Have any of you morons considered the fact that his 'taking care of it' could have been getting rid of wife #1 or wife #2 permanently? After all of the condoning of deception here by many of you people - it is a very good thing that he is charged with a felony! The law is the law, either follow it or go to jail! And those of you who think otherwise are part of the problem in why our society is becoming more dangerous everyday. What kind of a mentally imbalanced individual goes around actually marrying other people and hiding the fact that they are already married anyway - and what kind of fruit bat CONDONES that type of activity. BTW - I am not talking about the Mormons - at least religious polygamists are 'honest' about having multiple spouses.
Our society has become too 'forgiving' and lenient on dishonest behavior and actions - we tolerate cheating spouses (and many people cover for each other even when they are friends with the cheated-on spouse) and it is okay when people lie and stab each other in the back to get ahead (look at any reality show you see). As a society we use to 'police' ourselves and socially ostracize people who had dishonest behavior because we recognized that it was important to be able to trust our fellow man. Part of being a decent human being is the fact that people can depend on you - that they can trust you to do what is right.
Is it any wonder that our divorce rate has sky-rocketed and illegitimacy is rampant, with our children being raised by one parent, and (if they know anyone at all) when they meet another child with both parents that is an 'oddity'. No wonder crime is rising everywhere - when you condone dishonest actions throughout your society, eventually it spirals downward to criminal activity.
And no you morons, I am not talking religion - I am talking morality, honor, and decency in the way we treat each other - whether it is man to man, woman to man, or woman to woman. Really, what the hell is wrong with you people?
