Strip club donates $1,200 to keep city's Little League going

Little League baseball players from an unincorporated area of Los Angeles will reportedly get to play ball this season thanks to a charitable donation from the unlikeliest of donors.

Jet Strip, a gentlemen's club in Lennox, has donated $1,200 to the Lennox Little League, which has been strapped for cash after the Lennox School District imposed some new regulations, according to the Daily Breeze.

A call to the district was not immediately returned.

The donation, along with those from other businesses, will allow 300 little leaguers to play at least one more season, but the league's president, Roberto Aguirre, still isn't optimistic about the long-term future of the league.

"It feels good to be from Lennox when people do stuff like that," Aguirre said to the paper. "At the same time, the future is very scary for us, because [the donation] is a one-time deal."

James Wallace, Jet Strip's general manager, is also a 15-year member of the Lennox Coordinating Council, comparable to an unofficial city council of the community.

Wallace told the paper that he likes to keep the gentlemen's club's donations quiet.

"We don't really like to brag about it," he said.

The school board has also received donations of $1,000 and $600 from the little league in Westchester and the council, respectively.

But Aguirre told the paper that the bigger problem facing the league is the inability to sell food at games.

Citing health concerns, the K-8 district stopped the league from selling grilled foods, like hamburgers and hot dogs, though it has installed a drain, and a local non-profit, YouthBuild, has promised to build a snack bar for free.

"People don't want candy, candy, candy - chips, chips, chips," Aguirre said. "They want hamburgers, hot dogs and french fries."

But raising the $65,000 necessary for materials to build a snack bar will be tough for a community that is economically depressed.

Lennox is a small, mile-by-mile community adjacent to Los Angeles International Airport that is so impoverished, the league offers families a payment plan so that some can afford the annual $85 it costs to play in the league.

"We're looking up in the sky and hoping for something great," Aguirre told the paper. "If this snack stand happens, it's going to be the best thing that could happen for our league."

Was the donation made in $1 bills?

This is typical of Republican dominated economically depressed areas. They are funneling money into their upcoming holy war instead of taking care of the people. America has gone down hill in the last 30 years, mostly under Republican't rule. They want to destroy education, healthcare and physical education

420- utterly cluelless. The democratic run state of California is to blame here. Did you read the article? $65,000 to build a snackbar? Do you know why? All the dumbass California regulations. When I was kid hamburgers and dogs were sold with just a grill and a table. Waste, fraud and California!

For every "Republican dominated" economically depressed area, I can show you 20 democrat dominated economically depressed areas. Your mind games are not going to work here. Many of us are waking up and this is going to be a problem for you progressives and hard-core liberals in coming elections. Stop with the weed for several weeks, come back down to earth for a bit then perhaps we can have a reasonable conversation.

I live in California and you are 100% correct. Just to back you up:)

420freesthemind is lost in all this with his partisan rhetoric and blind hatred of a political PARTY.

One thing I might remind you all is that California has a economy larger then all but 8 nations in the WORLD today. The population to match it.. before you rip on one of the biggest states in our nation, try better to understand it.

In understanding California you have to understand the long lines at the DMV and ANY state office due to the state is completely broke. You have to understand the ENORMOUS illegal alien issue. Understand the corporate greed of the companies hiring the illegals. The tax EVERYTHING mentality and when you pass laws, to stop taxation because taxes are out of control, you just call it a FEE now and keep adding more mess and taxes anyway.

California is a bastion of liberals, pot smokers, gays and lesbians and basically most people who do not wish to work and generally prefer to live off everyone else.

Yes my friends I live in California and these are the FACTS and the facts clearly show socialism and liberal agendas = failure.

P.S. California is STILL sending me IOU's for my past tax refunds for several years now...and badgering me to send more.

I am moving from this state this year... thank god

I am moving from this state this year... thank god

...and good riddance. I've lived in California all my life. I've never lost a job to an illegal alien, I've never seen someone smoking pot in public (even though IT'S LEGAL HERE if you have your doctor's permission). I pay my state taxes and have never been audited or badgered to send more (I paid the correct amount the first time), and I've always gotten a direct deposit into my bank for any refund due. Yes, it's a "liberal" state. I don't see that word as derogatory, even though you use it that way. Good-bye, good riddance, and have a good life in Nevada or Arizona.

Geez, not sure where in CA you live, but I got my CA State tax rebate back within 7 days. Hmmm. Perhaps you are being dunned to PAY MORE because you didn't pay your fair share to begin with.

Go ahead and try your luck in another place, we don't need racist bigots living here. California has more than it's fair share of problems, it has a dysfunctional government BUT it is California, one of the most beautiful, diverse places to live in the world.

but republican states RECEIVE more federal funding than democrat states

Talk about ignorance of statistics. Did you bother to try to understand why? Heres a clue, most "red" states are sparsly populated and contain huge amounts of infrastructure. States like Kentucky recieve more transportaion dollars than anything. Funny thing about Kentucky and many "red:" states is the fact that they have more registered democrats than republicans yet are called "republican" because of voter turnout not actual demographics. Another bit of statistical ignorance liberals like to support.

does the democratic strip club give away lap dances? bet they dont last long if they do. 420 feels entitled to the lap dance so he doesnt pay, do you 420?

    420 is half baked.

    $65k for a snack bar?

my house didnt even cost me $65k!

is that a snack AND Strip bar?

good lord, what the hell type of snacks did they plan on selling?

Kobe beef hamburgers and platinum fries?

OHHHH but wait, they need the union to build it right?
the snack bar shouldnt be more than 600sq feet, the used grill and deep fry maybe $10,000, and labor will be free, so $55k for 600 sq feet?

thats almost $1000 a square foot!!!!!
they might as well look into buying a roach coach or something cheaper, strike a deal with mobile lunch truck and see if they can give 10% to the little league team or what ever!

    that is outrageous!!!!

The main snack bar at my LL probably cost twice that. It is two stories, all face brick, large picture windows on all four sides, heated and air conditioned, real restrooms, professional grill, fryer and coolers. Metal staircase leading up to second floor. It's total sq. ft. is probably bigger than my house. It sits as the hub for four playing fields. The little league association in my town did all that on their own. Parents have to work the stand 2 -4 times a year. The town bought the land and nothing else. Everything else was done by the league. They fund raise, businesses donate, and the parents do a lot of the work maintaining everything. The town does kick in some minor maint. usually just summer job kids. The Babe Ruth field is just as nice (professional lights for nite games). As are the two softball fields (12 inch) for the girls. My family never used it, my daughter didn't play. I support it because the cost to me is minimal. It increases the value of my home that is two blocks away. If done right it can be done high end at no or low cost to those who don't use it.

So laughable how that seems the best the GOP'ers can come up with lately and doubly hilarious because few on the Left goosestep to any line. Someday maybe your head will clear and your mind will expand and you will understand that.

Is it Democratic government or is it white flight and the loss of American manufacturing that has damaged these once thriving cities? But of course your simplistic non-explanation covers those issues, doesn't it?

You cite these statistics but take a quick look at the states that rank at the bottom of most quality of life studies. They are nearly all Red States.

I live in an ultra Red area and wouldn't wish this incompetent style of governance on anyone. Pledges and calls for citizens to arm themselves out of fear for their lives (although our sheriff is doing a great job! (/sarc)

Gee, isn't it interesting how a story on strip clubs really seems to bring out the conservatives. And these clubs flourish in ultra conservative areas like Dallas. Not a bad thing to someone open minded like myself but it would sure seem like hypocrisy from those who claim to carry the mantle for some obsure construct called "family values". Of course that is because like the term "compassionate conservative" which has vanished from the GOP lexicon these are just buzz words used to move the LCD's in our society goosetepping to the polls.

Wrong. Many red states receive more than they pay in but blue states receive the most welfare. Keep in mind that just about every financial transaction has some tie to New York and all of our entertainment comes out of Hollywood so that would explain why they have more tax dollars available. There is a very good chance that citizens all over the US have contributed to those tax dollars.

I just won't be a part of it. That said, kudos to the club for making the donation. You can really see their honest intent given that most of their donations are not publicly released.

The strip club probably felt compelled to donate because of all the money the fathers of the players spent at their establishment.

Sin is sin. The amoral citizens of California and America have lost their conscience. You would also take donations from organized crime and drug dealers, no doubt, since there are no ethics or morals in your mindset.

The ends DO NOT justify the means.

                      Herald,

Organized crime and drug dealing are illegal. Strip clubs are not. If you got your head out of the Old Testament long enough to read the constitution, you'd know why your comment is inconsistent.

Hearld9 - Yes, Sin is Sin. I take by your protest, you'll sit in judgment as the only lily-white, sinless person in the group? I can see you pointed finger wagging right now. - Let ye who is without sin cast the first stone. Bet you have a pile of them at the ready.

Leave judgment to God - His shoulders - His wisdom.

Herald, apparently those at the strip club still have a conscience or else they would have simply kept their money and not donated to the obviously needy charity. This Sin is Sin crap is for the hypocritically laden portion of the population that actually still believes that the Earth is 6000 yrs old, Dinosaurs and Cavemen hung out together on weekends, and that Evolution and Global Climate change are myths.

How about we go back to the part where a Strip club donated? Where was the local Churches and other "religious" pillars during their time of need? Probably trying to figure out how to get the youths to come into the back of the church with the allure of candy and Jesus juice. Once you figure out how to come back down to reality and off that fictional pedestal that you and many religious zealots believe that they are on, we may find that we have more in common......likely not though.

                          Herold,

                          Judge not....ring a bell?

Did Jesus reject prostitutes or befriend them and help them?

Did Jesus tell us to love one another (EVERYONE) as he loved us? Or did he give us a list of exclusions?

Why does the Bible call Tamar righteous after deceiving Judah by posing as a prostitute?

Why does the Bible list Rahab the harlot as a woman of faith, even though there is no indication in the Bible that she repented of her profession?

Why does the Bible refer to Jesus as a friend of prostitutes?

Why does the Bible say that many prostitutes will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, while many so-called righteous men will be cast out?

Why didn't Solomon, the wisest man to ever live (with the exception of Jesus, of course), establish laws making prostitution illegal (1 Kings 3:16)? And why were giants of the faith, like Augustine and Aquinas, opposed to laws that would make prostitution illegal?

DIRECT QUOTE: "I tell you the truth, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you" - Jesus

You dont know what the word "Christian" means and you had better read that quote over and over until you understand it because you have a lot riding on understanding it well.

I love all of the comments about California, especially the one's that sound completely ignorant to anyone who lives here. No, Lennox is not oppressed by the Republicans or deceived by the Democrats. It's a LITTLE LEAGUE organization. Its oppressed and deceived by it's local government.

You say it's sad that California has ridiculous rules about hot dogs. That's a Lennox rule. Most leagues in California allow hot dogs I live next door to the park where Huntington Beach Little League plays, you may have heard about them, they're the world champions. Hot dogs at every game!

As far as who runs California, yes, we tend to vote blue, but most of our Governors in the 20th century have been Republicans (Arnie, Wilson, Dukemajian, Reagan, etc, etc.), so think about that. In the meantime, stay in Arizona or Oklahoma or where ever you live that has such great government representation. I'll stick with the "crazies" in California. Surf's up!!

In times like these the community needs to come together and support the children. How about the community making donations to the little league. The other option is to have the strip club come out an have a strip-a-thon with maybe one dollar lap dances at the field.

Our son grew up playing Pony/Colt league baseball - now grown and married - I still miss those cool summer mornings and evenings at the field. Starting in early March, on any given evening, you can smell the cut grass and see the bright lights ablaze on the horizon. As for food - as team mom for five years - we did a lot of potlucks - although truth be told - there ain't nothing like a hot dog or a greasy hamburger at the games - each team member's mom and dad did their turn behind the counter. Lots of towns, cities are hurting - these small chunks of time are a respite from the toils of it all.

Anybody got a problem with the donation? Step right up! The hat is being passed! How about it to those teams with a bit of extra in their pockets - trust me - you are out there. It's called team spirit.

Small town americana. Boys now men from his league, we have Air Force cadets, Marines, our son in the Navy, business owners and new fathers. These events brought our town together and we are all the better for it. Each spring, I am reminder of the simple fun we did have.

As for me and mine - this former team mom extends a hearty thank you to Mr. James Wallace, Jet Strip's general manager. Hope he is able to spend time in the stands for a game or two - I'll bring the food - only to happy to share.

America has a moral problem. All the other issues are symptomatic.

While I agree that morals are sorely lacking with some in the US, there was still a lack of morals in the 1950's or whenever you look back so fondly on. The simple fact is that they went undetected and often hidden in many families. The truth is that so much now is open to the public and many are uncomfortable with that. Sorry to say that having an abusive, womanizing, alcoholic parent is painful and disappointing regardless of whether it is openly know or is kept hidden for the sake of appearances like in the past.

We as a nation have began to crumble because we have forgotten the meaning of togetherness and sharing. So many rich politicians and business people look only to line their pockets with their wanton greed, some poor families look only to their next handout without any expectation of earning it and finally many in the middle class can't help but hope that they can simply sustain their family and can't even consider helping others while they struggle mightily. That is what is symptomatically destroying our nation. A nation divided by class, ethnic, racial, and economic boundaries is no nation at all. Our forefathers left us a great legacy that we have twisted and abused to give us what we have today, a country that exports war, greed, and sorrow all the while we have an enormous share of suffering of our own that we refuse to address.

America's moral problem is that so many people want to impose their morals on others rather than minding their own lives. Seriously, tell someone who cares.

Different groups claim somebody is exploiting somebody. If you listen to the feminists it is the ladies that are being exploited but considering who comes into the club broke and who leaves the club broke I am not so sure about that.

The article stated that the town is impoverished and is located right next to LAX. There are not a lot of grocery stores or other neighborhood businesses (in the traditional sense) there. There are quite a few "Gentleman's" clubs located in the vicinity of most airports. It was nice that someone stepped up.

Kinder, I doubt any of them have heard about this. And, to be honest, where would you stop? There are literally thousands of baseball/softball organizations around the country. How do you give to one and not another? This has to either be done locally, or coordinated nationally: all pro teams/players donate to one fund, with monies distributed to organizations based on need. But that creates beauracracy and politics and old-boy networking to interfere. No easy answers, unfortunately.

The only problem I have with this entire situation is one of the bite lines of the article! Why are these ladies/this business the "unlikeliest" of donors? Good chance some of them are mothers, or young enough they are only a few years removed from playing themselves, or have brothers who played. While some may be burnt out crack heads, others may be very compassionate women who are doing what they have to in order to survive, and can certainly make an emotional connection to the plight of the baseball league. I don't think they are "unlikely" at all.

                                                                        #20.3 - Tue Mar 13, 2012 1:28 PM EDT

                                                                        Two birds........one stone!

Either way, a problem was solved that helped the kids.....and isn't that what this is all about anyway, helping the kids?

A strip club beat us out and we aren't doing a damned thing about it! Well, local churches and other organizations, step up to the plate and take a swing. Maybe your donation will make a home run.

If the name of the business was Joe's Bar and Grill, it would be printed on the back of every kid in the league's t-shirt & nobody outside of town would hear about it...this is newsworthy because a strip club owner rather than the local laundromat or car dealership wants to help kids be able to enjoy baseball?
