On first impression, Ravi being from India and the son of wealthy parents,I had thought he would be found not guilty or guilty of a lesser crime and only given probation. This verdict serves to demonstrate that the US judicial system can work.

It did this time but not for Callee Anthony. Or did you forget that already? BTW Send the Indian BACK to India. Where he can set up his next webcam in Bombay University. LOL.

I agree with Mike. Ravi and his parents probabaly thought they were in India where being wealthy means you can commit any crime and not pay for it with anything more than money.

A young man lost his life coz of Ravi. Maybe Ravi moght not become a doctor like his parents but thats a small price to pay for a man who killed himself because of this young man from India with a webcam. !0 years in prison with deportation is the right thing for him. Let him go cak to his own country and set up webcams there.

Not in my country here Mr Ravi.

Arjun Shah,

As much as it a horrible situation that someone’s life was lost, he decided based on his own shame to take his own life. Ravi didn't make him do anything. Tyler made his own choice and imagine what that must do to his family. He decided to give up on life and not working through any obstacles of being a gay man. There are many people who are ashamed and scared however, they get through and he should have tried. You never know him taking his life may set an example for some other young person who decides now suicide is the only way out. However I do think that Ravi is getting exactly what he deserves and needs to think about what he did for oh I don't know....... hopefully ten years!

As for Tyler, may he rest in peace

Arjun you seem have totally figured out how Ravi is a wasted child of rich parents from India based on your broad generalization of India. But dude be careful in such generalizations. Reading your post above many desis will think of you as an asslicker. And that of course would be a generalization too.

The defendant made two horrendously ignorant and crucial mistakes in judgment, his despicable, grossly insensitive, and immature behavior and the call to pass on the plea bargain offer. But ten years! I was not privy to all the information the jury received and if I had sat on that jury perhaps I would have been in agreement with their final judgment, but finding guilt on all 15 charges seems a bit severe. I am not in any way trying to justify the wretched actions of the defendant, but, the fact of the matter is that only the victim knew for sure whether there was a direct cause and effect regarding the defendant's actions and the victim's decision to commit suicide. Sadly, there is a distinct possibility that his apparent difficulties dealing with his sexuality (unless resolved) may have led him to that same bridge and that same tragic end, even if the incident in question had never occurred. To me that's called reasonable doubt.

The problem with your argument is that none of the charges had anything to do with the suicide, they only related to the spying. However, I certainly think the suicide was on the jurors' minds in reaching this verdict, even though by law they should not have considered it at all.

This verdict is political correctness run amok. This as nothing more than one college student playing a mean prank on another college student. If Clementi hadn't been mentally unbalanced and committed suicide, this case would likely have never even made it to court to start with. I certainly hope there is an appeal coming because this jury was way out of line. They felt the pressure to convict because the kid committed suicide. Even thought the judge I am sure instructed them that they could not consider that since it was not part of the offenses charged, I am sure that it entered into their minds in coming out with this verdict. This as a stupid college prank, not a hate crime. It was a complete misuse of the hate crime statute to even charge it as one. Ravi did not get a fair trial because of all the media coverage and political pressure surrounding this case. This verdict is a major miscarriage of justice.

Nonsense. If you're an adult, you don't spy on others in private. It's a shame that you are unable to grasp that concept. Go peep in some woman's windows and see if her husband lets you get very far with that "prank."

Anyone else find it hilarious that the one post in the article above that was firmly against Ravi's conviction was moreso against homosexuality? The fact that his spelling was atrocious makes it even more amusing. Deep south I'm guessing.

This will not hold up. The judge knows it, having practically said as much. What if Clementi had been dumped harshly by his lover? Of course, that guy would deny it. But, that could have made him suicidal. What if Clementi had unknown mental issues and was already suicidal just from going away to college? Would Ravi have secretly cammed Clementi if Clementi had been straight and seeing a buxom cheerleader? Yes, he would have and then probably sold the video to one of the online companies. Would that have been considered a hate crime? No. It seems Ravi was not repulsed by Clementi's activity, but fascinated by it. To cover up his own curiosity, he invited others to watch.

What if? What if? What if???? We're not dealing with "What if", we're dealing with "WHAT IS"! This smug little turd was tried and convicted, and now he faces sentencing. On the bright side, he has a couple of months to acquire a taste for feathers. I hope he's a** up, head down night after freakin' night!

BTW, if your going to put the "conservative-psycho-spin" on something, at least respond to the facts as stated in the article.... Your sophomoric attempt at the use of "pseudo-Freudian-psycho-babble" only makes you look stupid..

Previous news stories said the prosecutors made a much stronger case than originally expected. I'm guessing that's why he was convicted on the bias intimidation charge.

He is guilty of invasion of privacy, bullying and tormenting, and creating the circumstances causing another person's death. Aside from the obvious, I hope this will be a warning to all the MINDLESS techies running around with their latest gadgets to show how "cool" they are. The Techies with MINDS are a different breed. They have better things to do.

This verdict is a disgrace. How would you feel if your teenage kid in college had 35 year old guys coming over to bang? If ravi was a girl and clementi was a girl and he set the cam up cause the olod man made him feel uncomfortable this would have never have been a case.... Unbelievable!!!

Seems like at worst he should have gotten invasion of privacy and let off with a slap on the wrist...From what I read no reasonable person would have felt intimidated... This has felt like a civil manner from the outset, but the outcry over the bullying issue (newsflash people: the strong have bullied the weak since the beginning of civilization, we're animals, it's in our nature) caused people to ask prosecutors from the outset. Hopefully it doesn't cost him the ability to live here, as at worst he made a bunch of stupid mistakes college kids make everyday and then tried to hide them.

It really is not possible for one person (you, for instance) to tell another person (me, or Tyler Clementi) how we should feel in a given situation. I have read a number of comments that said Tyler "should not have felt intimidated" or that he "should have been stronger." No one gets to tell another individual how to think or feel or react in a given situation. Tyler checked Ravi's twitter feed 38 times in the two days before he committed suicide. Almost twice an hour. And every time he might have been wondering when Ravi was going tell people to watch the gay guy get it on. I can only imagine how distraught and betrayed he may have felt by Ravi's intrusion into his privacy and Ravi's decision to encourage others to share that intrusion. We may all wish Tyler had been stronger but no one among us gets to say that he should not have felt what he obviously DID feel. I just hope Ravi gets it some day, and understands how his callous disregard for another human being may have contributed to that person's misery and despair.

Well let’s get it straight. A college kid is going to jail because he used a webcam to monitor his own room, when his roommate kicked him out of the room to make up with someone else. If it was against the school policy at most he should be expelled from the college if any. But going to jail for it? It is funny how our justice system has become gay friendly. Remember this verdict is for using the webcam in his own room.

And the camera was pointed at his roommate's bed. You wouldn't have a problem with that if you were Ravi's roommate? I certainly would. And Tyler didn't "kick him out of the room." He asked if her could use the room in private which is pretty common in dorm rooms. Your bias is showing.

Damn. I keep 24/7 video and audio recordings going on in every room and around the outside of my house all of the time. I can see it over the web. The neighbors like it because it deters crime. Some of the cameras even track movement.

Does that mean I would be guilty if two guys across the street kissed and it was recorded?

The actions of the kid were in his shared dorm room. They were not recorded. The guy was outright gay. I don't care if people are gay as long as they are happy.

The fault lays with the guy that committed suicide. Who cares if they kissed or did whatever? The student needed mental attention regarding his lifestyle and the consequences. He did not try to get help. He took the cowards way out and ruined 2 lives.

The one guy from India should have gotten a suspension and required to take sessions on personal responsibilities.

I am sorry someone had to take the cowards way out and ruin another persons life forever. May God bless them both. I hope the guy from India gets an appeal and a fair trial.

No, not unless a crime is committed. I don't even look at them unless the dogs are barking. The neighbors are free to look if there is a crime. I don't watch them as it would be a tremendous waste of time and living. I don't care what anyone does as long as it is legal and not forced on me. The police are free to look at them if they ever want or need to.

I may invite the neighbors over to watch a dvd movie purchased from the store, but that is about it.

I do respect my neighbors privacy. There is a 14 day recording cycle on the cameras and then they record over the old data. The neighbors actually like the cameras. I purchase movies and have cable if I want to watch something. The cameras are only a crime deterrant and signs are posted with the cameras in plain view.

Oh the jurors got the verdict right. Matter of fact when they found him quilty he laugh, his att; said it would not stand up, well it did . Maybe 10years is a little much, but he got what the law said he should get. Yes I do believe it was an hate crime , as he really thought it was funny to do that. No Iam not gay I have been married for over 40 years and do have children, gchildrens, and ggkids. I say the best thing to do is to let him stay in US prison for a few years, and deport him back to India, never to set foot on our soil.
