Subscribe to RSSMINNEAPOLIS -- Nine suspected gang members and associates were charged Friday with taking part in a sexual attack on a 14-year-old girl who was forced back inside an abandoned St. Paul house and raped after trying to leave a party, authorities said.
The girl and her friend were picked up at school by one of the men and lured to a party with suspected members of the TB22, or True Blood 22, street gang, prosecutors said.
"This crime was every parent's nightmare," Ramsey County Attorney John Choi said in a statement. "Crimes like these shock the conscience of our community."
According to a criminal complaint, the girl wanted to leave the Nov. 17 party at the abandoned St. Paul house but was pulled from a car and carried back inside.
"The victim reported grabbing whatever she could, including door frames, to stop them from bringing her into the bedroom," the complaint said. The girl told a nurse that once she was forced onto a mattress on the floor inside the bedroom, a group of men held her down while she struggled and yelled for help.
One of the defendants told police at least two men raped the girl, according to the complaint.
Citing complaints and petitions filed in Ramsey County District Court, the St. Paul Star Tribune reported the alleged victim heard one suspect say, "Are you in? I call second."
The girl told the nurse that when she asked the man who brought her to the party, 24-year-old Mang Yang, to help, he said he had to go, according to the complaint. The assault stopped when one of the men yelled "police" and everyone ran, the complaint said.
'Get them drunk'
According to the complaint, Yang told police he knew the others planned to rape the girl and that "is the gang's intent every time they get girls to a party with them to get them drunk and rape them."
One of the teens told police that Yang told him to hold the girl down. But the complaint said Yang told police he went looking for the girl after she was carried from his car and that he heard her screaming and saw teens run out of a room.
Yang said he asked her if anything happened but she was crying and didn't answer, according to the complaint.
Yang is charged along with four other men, ages 18 to 37. Four male minors, ages 15 to 17, also are charged. They each face four counts: aiding and abetting first-degree sexual conduct, conspiracy to commit first-degree sexual conduct, kidnapping someone under age 16, and committing a crime for the benefit of a gang.
All nine defendants are suspected gang members or associates.
Yang and three of the other adults charged made their initial court appearances Friday and were appointed public defenders.
"This is a very serious case involving many co-defendants and we look forward to providing the best defense possible in each case to reach a fair resolution," said Kelley Malone-O'Neill, managing attorney at the Ramsey County Public Defender's office.
Speaking to the Star Tribune, police spokesman Todd Axtell added: "We are looking for other potential victims to come forward."

The miners will get a slap on the wrist and told don't do it again. The other 2 18 years old might get a couple years and the 37 year old may get five. That will be considered harsh punishment. Out before long to rejoin the gang and do it again.

Sad thing is at 14 yrs. old she was more than likely not a virgin, can't say for sure but the stats will show it. The other story I heard was that she was asking for it. I really don't understand that one; how in the heck do you ask to be raped? Ding Ding Ding, we do not have a winner choose the wrong door!

We're going to find the homeliest man to play a liberal protagonist for Gone. That way he'll seem better looking and smarter. A regular contributor is going to go by Rash Limpbaggs. Rash will be talking about patriotism and family values. The fact that he has been married 4 times, and had 5 draft deferments doesn't seem to bother our market. For a joke Rash is going to talk about personal accountabilty and self control. We hope to keep Rash on the radio since he weighs 400 pounds. His well known drug abuse doesn't seem to bother our market or sponsors either ! Besides we're going to hire a hack ex-congressman who goes by Nut Gangrape. Yes, almost all violent crime is committed by black males. Look at the stats. Look at the demographics and crime rates of flourishing cities like Detroit, Camden, Chester, St Louis, Memphis, etc. Look at the demographics of the prison population.

You say "look at the stats" (I assume you mean arrest stats, which doesn't speak at all to the rates of criminality in individual groups, only those arrested or convicted of particular instances of crime) but provide none.

A fair resolution would be to let the father of this girl give the command of fire at the firing squad. These gangsta's have no place in society.
If she is a kid who will go off to a party with gang members, I would suspect that there isn't even a father in the picture.
And I am NOT blaming the victim, she is only 14. Just saying that she wasn't brought up to be careful about who she hangs with, and her parent(s) weren't paying attention to what she was doing either.
I agree she probably has no father (and or mother) active in her life and I would suspect the same of all or most gang bangers. No male role model at home to "raise" their sons and daughters is a detriment to our society.
Generations of children are being raised by parents who aren't fit to be parents let alone single parents.

Can't we put all of one gang in a particular prison and one by one send enemy gang members to that prison? After they've all been taken care of, send THOSE prisoners to an opposing gang. Keep going until there is one gang left at an old prison where a "fire" will kill them.

I noticed he said "girls" in his statement to the police. Were they raped as well?

I have read this article several times and nowhere does it mention the race, color, religion, etc, etc, etc, of these gang members. From some of the comments that were made, it is "assumed" the gang members were african american. The bottom line: They are all useless as well as losers. I hope the judicial system works and the book is thrown at each of them. This makes me sick to my stomach when I read about these things happening. It makes no difference whether they are 37-years old or 15-years-old, no one deserves this kind of treatment, especially from losers like this.

Uh, if you read the article you would have notice the name of the guy who brought the girl to the party is Mang Yang......pretty safe to say it is an East Asian name. And if he doesn't have a Western first name, he is most likely either an immigrant or the son of immigrants.
And not being White on black crime it will fade into the sunset with no outcry from the negro agitators looking to get their mugs in the news.

Wow, you almost never hear about white-on-white crimes... outside of 20/20, Dateline, 48 Hours, Cold Case Files, Nancy Grace, Disappeared, To Catch a Predator... hell, if you park yourself on ID television for a day you can see white-on-white crime 24/7 with commercial interruptions.
Some folks are still conditioned to focus on certain traditional images of crime because those pulling your political strings want you to. It was that way during the Reconstruction backlash when the black codes that established our modern conception of what a criminal looks like were formed, it was that way when the composition of the political parties changed with the passage of civil rights reform, and its the same today when the prison industrial complex grows faster than the size of our military despite the fact that the crime rate has, in actuality, gone down across the board.

Managing Public Defender, Kelley Malone-O'Neill should be fired immediatly! first for being so insensitive and second for her remark "fair resolution". what was fair about this young girl being gang raped and tortured? yes tortured, thats exactly what this was. "fair resolution"....., that made me sick. as for the gang members, set them as examples to all other gang bangers that this crap will not be tolerated. mandatory 10 yrs each in full, with parole to follow after said 10 yrs. and other stipulations carried out.
