Couple lives in fear after their address tweeted as George Zimmerman's

A couple in Sanford, Fla., is afraid for their lives after people posted their home address on Twitter and said it was that of George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch captain who shot dead Trayvon Martin.

The mistake reportedly has forced David and Elaine McClain, a couple in their 70s whose home is about four miles from where Martin was shot, to flee to a hotel.

"My youngest son, his last name is Zimmerman and his middle name is George," Elaine McClain told ClickOrlando.com, but that's all they have in common.

Among those retweeting the couple's address was film director Spike Lee, who has nearly 250,000 followers on Twitter.

"He definitely owes a big apology," McClain added. "All this is really scary and it's a shame. There's no reason they put our address out there without checking to see who lived there."

On Monday, the McClains called police after receiving an envelope with writing that tied it to the Martin case.

Police promised to increase patrols in their Sanford neighborhood, the McClains said. But as a precaution, they have fled to a hotel, Chip Humble, one of their sons, told the Orlando Sentinel.

"We're afraid for our lives," Elaine McClain said.

William George Zimmerman, the son whose name led to the errant tweet, said he wasn't sure how his parents' address was tracked down, but he noted that he lived there briefly after college and had used the address to register a car, get a driver's license and vote, according to the Sentinel.

Update at 8:30 a.m. ET Thursday: In a tweet late Wednesday, Lee apologized to the McClain family.

Tweet from 9:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday.

The parents of Trayvon Martin, the 17-year-old student fatally shot by a neighborhood watch volunteer in a gated Florida community, defend their son's reputation amid new reports that portray him as a teen often in trouble. NBC's Ron Allen reports.

Let the justice system take care of this problem. Spike needs to apologize and clear up this misunderstanding + pay for hotel expenses.. This another reason that twitter is stupid.

What does he want, for one of his tweeter followers to assault Zimmerman or worst kill him?

The "New" Black Panther Party has offered a 1 million dollar reward for the capture of Zimmerman, dead or alive. They claim that Spike Lee was one of the contributors that made that substantial offer possible. Although in my mind the offer of the reward rises to the level of a "racially motivated hate crime", I would bet that Holder and the Justice Dept. don't even acknowledge that it was made. Until all the facts in this case are made public, people just need to chill.

Good old mob mentality on the left. Also, I guess Spike like most of the liberal african americans ceases to show himself when they find out they are wrong as usual.

They came out of the wood work for the Duke Lacross rape and when it was found that the woman plotted and lied about the whole thing, did you see Jesse or Sharpton show back up and apologize?

Nope.

These guys only care about the publicity and the people that follow them blindly (Spike, Jess, Sharpton, etc) are just unintelligent sheep.

Man up Spike and apologize.

Spike Lee is an accomplice to any harm that these people face and, I believe, is culpable for damages caused to them. I believe the couple has a great lawsuit against him. It's obvious that Mr. Lee intended harm to the person/s living at that address (Zimmerman) and he attempted to recruit others to do the dirty work for him. He's a baiter and should have papers filed on him. I imagine that if this couple was killed in their sleep (due in part to Lee's posting) that he'd say, "Oh s$%#" and have nothing additional to say for a while. Not his fault.....

Just imagine the outrage if someone put out an addresss with a situation the other way around. You'd be hearing constant MSNBC rants of KKK, supremicists, racism, etc.

Normally, I don't support law suits for honest mistakes. But I have to say that I think Lee should be used as an example of how public-eye individuals with a following must exhibit responsibility for making certain not to exacerbate a national issue.

Maybe he should step up, correct his error, foot the bill for these unfortunate folks, and then alter his future behavior. I've never thought of him as being a fair-minded, responsible sort of guy, though.

The McClains shouldn't worry; everyone knows that blacks only want justice through the legal system and are in no way violent. That is what the demonstrations are all about. All is well. It wouldn't be any better if it was the right address he had tweeted. He certainly knows how sensitive and potentially explosive this situation is, and risks creating a lynch mob action.

Yeah, right, a different standard of justice. Uh huh, so good ol' Spike Lee is black and therefor he is exempt from directing actions towards an innocent couple, an action that could result in their murders, but hey, Spike is black and therefor above the law. Am I reading this right? Give ol' Spike a break, he's black? Guess the New Black Panthers should also get a break, they're only calling for the Wanted Dead or Alive posters and the bounty on Zimmerman's head.

Your post is exactly what is wrong here. In your world, only white people get off and only white people should be prosecuted for crimes. Do you want to be equal or do you want special privileges?

Boycott Spike Lee, boycott Sharpton, boycott anyone looking for vigilante 'justice' because they don't really want justice, they want to incite riots. Lee especially is an idiot of the first stripe, sending out an adress for essentially calling for a hit on someone and then getting the wrong address, thus placing lives in danger and not one person in the black community is standing up against Lee for doing this. This isn't about equal rights. this is about looking to get someone killed. I am beginning to think that this won't end until someone is killed and don't feed me that garbage about Martin, this is way beyond that, this is ugly and dangerous and needs to stop now! No innocent people need to get killed, not one and all this does is set up the perfect situation to get someone killed and I call BS on this being about Martin and if only he got justice, etc. In your zeal to get 'justice' for Martin you are sanctioning the murder of more people, is that what you really want?

As to Spike Lee-- what a douche bag. This is a clear case of cyber-bullying and he ought to own up to the fact that he posted an address, without confirmation, that put innocent bystanders in harms way-- all because he's as big a racist as any. I mean, the facts in the Martin-Zimmerman case aren't even fully public, yet he is so certain that Zimmerman is guilty (based predominantly on the race of the deceased) that he would post an unsubstantiated address for hundreds of thousands of his "followers" to see, obviously in the hope of inciting a violent reaction. How is that not KKK mentality? The colors are reversed, but it's essentially the same hateful bullsh*t.

But Zimmerman family wasn't showing 11 year old pictures of their son on the media. If these loving Martin's loved their son so much.....Why was he in the morgue for 2 days as a "John Doe"???? The dad and girlfriend were in New York. How was he getting candy for the little brother? Did Trayvon walk to the store and leave the little brother home alone ???? I love how none of these people calling Spike out and calling him a racist and other nonsense know absolutely nothing about him and are disregarding that fact that he didn't originate the message.

I give him just a smidgeon of credit for that, and none at all for #1 fact-checking where George Zimmerman actually lives, and #2, thinking before he just hit re-tweet. It was very irresponsible.

I wouldn't have re-tweeted Zimmerman's address even if I could verify that it was such. If we don't let the courts at least try to handle George Zimmerman, it's hard to complain about his vigilantism.

It may even be legally actionable, and I don't have a problem with that. Spike's an adult. He should understand consequences.

However, it is (awkwardly, but not surprisingly) funny, and revealing, to see actual Ku Klux Klan posters come out of the woodwork offering to lynch Mr. Lee. I say actual Ku Klux Klan because the opinions I'm seeing here can come from nowhere else.

And it's just interesting. For years we've been told racism is dead, and no decent white upstanding Real Americans are so despicable and morally depraved as to actually be racists. Get some high emotions going here about a racially-motivated murder, and out of the woodwork they come. As if they've ALWAYS been here, and voting Republican to boot.

Just an observation I make.

Was Lee's tweeting wrong and dangerous or not? Are you suggesting he should be excused from his reckless action because of his race? Or do you think we should overlook Lee's tweeting because it was a response to Zimmerman's actions? If so does that mean you support vigilantism?

Or was this just a diversionary tactic? Trying to change topics and get everybody here to stop paying attention to Spike Lee's wrongful and dangerous tweeting of an address that's carelessly risking other people's safety.

If Spike Lee is in the wrong for retweeting inacurate information about George Zimmerman, and should be reported to the Klan and is a race-baiter, etc., etc., then if you repost information about Trayvon Martin that has been proven absolutely false by multiple news sources does that make you just as a doucebaggy race-baiter that needs to be reported to the so-called New Black Panther Party, too. If not, why the double standard?

Also, if racism is caused by people talking about race, when you stop talking about race/racism does the racism of others simply cease? How does not noticing when something is actually racist make the racism of others cease?

When whites say something they observe is reverse racism, are they in fact being racist for noticing something is racist against them, in the same way that whites say blacks are racist because blacks keep noticing examples of racism? If blacks (really most minorities, but blacks in particular) have a long history of having racist things happen to them, is it because they notice racist things are happening to them that they are racist, or are they racist because racist things keep happening to them and the say something about it (as opposed to whites who apparently have racist things happen to them everyday but are too tough to say anything about it, and are therefore not racist).

If blacks have a longer history of experiencing racism against them first hand than do whites, do blacks have a better idea of how racism manifests than whites (because whites have historically been the racists, not the racially-discriminated)? If so, should whites' perception of racism even been considered valid (much like a man who claims to know what reverse sexism is more so than women who have historically experienced more sexism than men, or able-bodied people claiming to know what its like to be discriminated against due to a physical disability more so than those who are handicapped)?

Can whites know racism so much better than blacks, despite having experienced a lot less discrimination as whites than any other "racial" group, that they can perceive with accuracy when someone is truly relating an experience of racism and when someone is merely playing a rhetorical "race card"? Why is it that only blacks play said "race card"? Is it possible for whites to play "the race card"? If so, is it worse when whites play the "race card" since they have historically made the deck, the rules, and have stacked the decks in their own favor? Is there a privilege card? Who deals, and can they play the privilege card?

Is racism an excuse not to try? Was slavery an excuse not to do one's own work? If slavery, chain gangs, and share cropping helped to build this country how come we only laud the Protestant work ethic? Does the Protestant work ethic still count as such a virtue when you also factor in slave labor?

How does the black codes, sunset laws, Jim Crow, Dred Scott, etc all fit into how we currently perceive black criminality? If all these memes trace back to Southern whites' historical fear of slave uprisings then are blacks inherently violent by nature because of these beliefs or are whites inherently skidish, anxious people who are perpetually afraid of comeupance?

Can one speak authoratatively on race without a complete understanding of American History, both good and bad, or if one lacks such a fundemental foundation is one talking completely out one's azz? If so, why should anyone take seriously anyone who decries an act as racist or not without such a background? Which group has historically had a firmer understanding of American racial history, white or black?

Doesn't matter if he originated the message or not.

He's RESPONSIBLE for his own actions...which were to use his publicity and public platform to get the ADDRESS out to individuals who might take things into their OWN hands.

I'm glad you answered that JH. Precisely how I would have answered. People speak out of hate. That's how the world works. Just read everything already posted. So many people know every detail of the situation when no one here has first hand knowledge. Murder=unlawful killing. Was this unlawful? No one has said yet so i guess until it is we'll all get to spew our hate for everyone that looks different than us.

Another question for all you haters out there. Is this a white versus black thing? Isn't Mr. Zimmerman a mix between white and Hispanic? 50/50 if you will. I don't a lot about the KKK (except their not much better than a lot of these posters) but don't they shy away from the whole mixed race thing? If this is the case why the hell are so many people bringing them into the conversation?

Don't confuse my post with anything more than curiosity with Human behaviour and the reaction you see when someone feels like they are mistreated. I really could care less about the outcome of this situation. Why? It really has nothing to do with me. There's one thing I know about this type of situation. This wasn't the first and it won't be the last. Haters will hate. If everyone was the same color they would just find something else to fight about. Just look at much of the Middle East. Oh well. Such are the times i suppose. Enough with my rant.

@Monster

Oh, final question: do you approve of murder, or not? Simple. Yes or no.

You've asked it a few times, and JH answered it, but allow me to as well:

No. Murder requires premeditation and intent.

But do I approve of killing people? Yes, I do. Self defense is a natural right that all creatures on this earth are entitled to in some fashion or another. Killing people, and animals for that matter, in defense of your life and body is perfectly acceptable--I'm reminded of the young 18 y/o mother who shot a home intruder with a shotgun back in January. Fully justified. I also approve of killing people as a proportionate response to abhorrent crimes-- i.e. capital punishment--on the caveat that the burden of proof is so overwhelming that no possibility of innocence exists. These instances are not murder, though a life is taken. You seem to want to broil all death down into a single category-- murder-- but that is completely disingenuous to the nature of human interaction; sometimes killing someone is the best thing for them.

In the case of Martin and Zimmerman, frankly the facts in the case are not clear enough to rule out the possibility that Zimmerman was defending himself at the time of the attack. It is not my place to judge him-- neither is it Spike Lees.

There is nothing like a lynch mob deciding to take the law into their own hands. Thugs like the New Black Panthers placing a bounty on someones head. To Spike Lee who blames every injustice in this world to racism. Angry mobs fueled by shoddy reporting and the very divisive nature of the country over the past 3.5 years. Washington has espoused class warfare, race warfare, immigrant warfare, religious warfare, political warfare, and now we have mobs ready to lynch someone. Whatever happened to the moral and ethical behavior expected of civilized members of society? How sad, and how pathetic.

Why would police protect them and not Martin's family from white supremacists and NRA crazies. After all, facts show a life was taken from them not the other way around. Why do the police protect people against "possible" violence from people of color and yet ignore violence against women and children and abortion providers? Better get your priorities straight. A I agree that Spike Lee's involvment in this situation completey crossed the lines with his tweet of this poor couples address. So many of the comments in response to this situation show how many racists there still are in this society. Why don't we all just let the FBI and Justice department handle the investigation now and all of us not rush to any harsh words or actions until all the facts come out. So many people just talk out of their ass on these forums. The Black Panther party leader offered a $10,000 reward, not a 1 million for the capture of George Zimmerman dead or alive which is ridiculous to do, but it was not 1 million and not paid by Spike Lee. It's going to take a couple more generations to pass by for the majority of the racists to no longer be significant in society.

MSNBC needs to be held accountable for their horrific reporting on this matter.

First they attempted to portray Treyvon as a typical kid next door and portray Zimmerman as a cold blooded murder. But now that actual facts are coming out about treyvon and Zimmerman instead of accurately reporting on them they choose to call them a smear campaign. The only smear campaign so far has been by MSNBC and to continue to be unapologetic in their actions.

The fact is MSNBC withheld details of the police report, accused the Sanford police of not doing their jobs (which it is now very clear that the police acted correctly in this matter), and dismissed an eye witness to the events. All the while they trumpeted the "connect the dots phone call" that there is no recording of as fact without question, brought forward a "witness" who admits she didn't see the events that occurred but only heard them from inside her house, and crucified a friend of Zimmermans for simply speaking to the quality of his character.

I still think Zimmerman was a fool for following treyvon but my disgust for MSNBC is far greater in the way they have handled the reporting on this case. I'd like to see one of their reporters put into the position of Zimmerman and see how they feel about it.

Check your facts please. They did not say dead or alive. They are not advocating killing him. I do not agree with the New Black Panthers (yes they do have New in their name) using monetary means to put a bounty on Zimmerman's head or their "put our name out there" involvement with this in the first place (a la Al Sharpton...discussion for another time and place...). Considering 1. the high amount of media attention, 2. the outrage that this case has brought forth and 3. the amount of um, we'll say "passionate" people in this country, I do agree with you that it is unnecessary and incredibly reckless for them to put something like that out in the universe.

At the same time, Zimmerman should be arrested and does need to be held accountable for his irresponsible actions as a "gun toting self appointed neighborhood watch officer". I'm not familiar with the gun licensing rules but, how does someone with his police record, showing assault against an officer even, get a conceal and carry permit? Anyone?

Lee raised 1.4 million for the Obama campaign, so you can bet the president will have nothing to say about this callous act. Same goes for the New Black Panthers whom were given a pass for voter intimidation by the Obama administration, so what if they are breaking the law once again. CNN, had his hands full of The New Black Panthers last night. They basically said that they will take justice into their own hands because the street law has voted. They said they do not follow white law.

Spike should never tweeted any address because that is interfering with the law. On one hand the black community wants the law to step up and better represent them, and on the other hand they tell CNN they don't have to follow white laws. Just unreal.

BTW, some years ago, a neighbor accidentally gave our home address when reporting domestic abuse by a neighbor and his wife. It was in the middle of the night when the phone number was given, and thus we were awakened by loud knocking on our front door. So half asleep we answered the door with two police officers with their guns pointed at us demanding to enter and find out what was going on. We were bewildered and scared. After a few minutes they revealed who made the call, which was a neighbor we knew, and called him and found out in his terror he gave the wrong address. The neighbor in question was shooting up the neighborhood on a drunken spree and did try to kill his wife. Awful story and lousy ending - eventually.

In all my years of living, I have had several altercations with police with none of it my fault and as in this case I was treated like dirt. I am white. The neighborhood above was an expensive neighborhood and so I certainly did not get any special treatment for being white, and living with doctors and lawyers. It as the doctor shooting up the neighborhood.

Amazing...this is all so messed up...the parents get on television and, as they have every right, are so freaking angry and disgusted and want justice. Zimmerman is starting to get his rep trashed by everything the media finds, just like they trashed the kid.

Do any of you know any of these people? I don't, so I won't pretend that this is right and that is wrong. I won't pretend that I know all that has happened.

The shooter should have been arrested. If I had done it, I would have been arrested. The same goes for all of you. Apparently, THAT is the fault of the lawyers who took this over. NO ONE knows what happened. It's all according to what the media reports and what the parents say and what people who allegedly witnessed it all say, which, of course is reported by the media.

Yet look what is happening. Black Panthers, who seem to have become the black version of the KKK, are threatening to do something, whether it's illegal or not. They even offered a reward.

People tweeted an address that didn't even belong to this man, in the hopes that someone would be ballsy enough to go there and do something. This, in turn caused a man who is well known enough to spread it even farther, a man who I thought (please correct me here if I am wrong) was all about fairness and equality in society.

WTF?

Don't you see what's happening here? All of this makes these people as bad, if not worse, than the guy who shot this kid. This has turned into a lynch mob mentality. Anyone who falls into this should be ashamed of themselves.

It shouldn't matter what color ANYONE is. Someone shot someone else, and the law should do what's right.

Stop the racist @!$%#...the reverse racist @!$%#...stop the hate mongering. People need to grow up and stop acting like a bunch of grade school brats.

Wait to find out what really happened, and let's just hope no one else gets hurt because someone thinks they're better than someone else.

Somehow these elderly people have become the only innocents in this tragedy. Spike Lee should be man enough to admit the mistake and pay for the couple's expenses! But according to the news he's not commenting, probably on advice from his lawyers.

To address some here: After reading a bit more, the New Black Panthers did not "officially" offer the Dead or Alive reward of $10K. They officially announced it for Zimmerman's capture and stated that they had posters made with the offer. When asked about it, Muhammad the spokesperson/leader said, "An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth." That doesn't sound like dead or alive????

People at demonstrations also had signs saying Zimmerman - Wanted Dead or Alive - $10,000 Reward. The media outlets have not pursued WHERE these people obtained the signs and posters, if not from the NBP then where????????? There are pictures of people at the demonstration with the signs, so it's not like someone is just making it up. The ADL and Commission on Civil Rights both consider the NBP a hate group, so even the far left distance themselves from this group.

Yet another example of racism not being solely monopolized by whites. Per capita, there are far more black racists than white racists. Spike is a good example! He also would never apologize for his mistake, because he's not man enough!

The original problem is still being investigated: now we have riots and looting in Florida, by high school students; people calling for racist groups, of both sides, to enact vigilante justice, (which is NOT justice, in any way, shape or form;) politicians of all stripes creating more problems; and the media aggravating the situation by paying lip service to ALL the hate mongers.

People: Stop, take a few breaths, and THINK. How long does it take to solve a potential criminal offense? Sometimes years. Doesn't mean it will take that long, just that it may. And all these fools spewing hatred and confusion are not making it go any faster.

And by inciting riots, as far as I'm concerned, all these big shots, regardless of who they are, are just as culpable as the original parties in the investigation, and should also be charged, at the very least with interfering with law enforcement in the performance of their duties., and they should also be charged with the felony of "Inciting to riot." Any and all rioters need to be charged as well.

FXSTC, I disagree that there are more black racists than white. I DO however feel like there are more blacks that are defensive and to some extent paranoid about what might happen next if we don't stand up for ourselves. I feel strongly that Zimmerman should be in custody, however this tweet went much too far. I'm hopeful that it was not really Spike Lee, it was a disgusting act, whomever perpetrated it! Wrong is wrong and we will never move forward by answering evil with evil.

This country is completely divided and much of that blame falls squarely on the shoulders of our Washington Elite. Obama had no business interjecting himself into this issue, it was a criminal matter that he tried to personalize. Completely out of line for any sitting president.

At the same time Washington has espoused class warfare, racism, partisan politics, and the very liberal mainstream media has been complicit. Look how far this country has fallen, when a bounty can be placed on someones head in public by a radical organization. That happens to be a crime.

Let us not forget the Tawana Brawley case with Al Sharpton and Rev James screaming for justice while inciting racial hatred. But they were wrong when the facts came out. Or how about the Duke lacrosse case, once again Al Sharpton and Rev James inciting racial hatred, and those students were tried and convicted by the media. But once again they were wrong.

So here we go again, and it is both sad and pathetic that people like Al Sharpton, Rev James, Spike Lee and especially the media is too ignorant to learn from their own previous mistakes. This is the very same type of behavior and mentality prevalent in this country prior to the Civil Rights Movement, with the only difference being the color of the lynch mobs.

Started to rain so I put on my hoodie, and notice someone following me and that's not a goodie.

Tried to run but pants all wet..so I turned around and a Latino I met.

Gave me chit and not a bit..so I slugged his azz with a solid hit

Jumped on his azz like a front door mat..banged his head until its flat

Went to reach for my skittles bag..but Latino said I'm nothin but fag

        He took out a heater..and damm I regret..rather be a fag..then having a toe tag.

Unfortunately Mike your rap is just not funny in this situation. It might well end up on a cd to make profit for TRayvons' mom as well. So you'd best run get a patent on it right now.

Every reasonable American in this country needs to immeadiately start writing, calling,e-mailing, stopping by their state representatives to Washington and the Presient as well. We need a campaign stating EQUAL JUSTICE FOR ALL, AND NO VIGILANTE JUSTICE wanted, excepted by government and the people. Politicians have to be forced to understand that their constituents will not stand for public figures weighing in on any side on this current issue. IT IS NOT THEIR PLACE, THEIR PLACE IS TO LEAD AMERICA NON- VIOLENTLY!!!! They need to also DEMAND that the New black panthers immeadiately cease and desist in any and all rewards or attempts at a citizens arrest for Zimmerman, They have nothing legal to base an arrest on and a child can figure out that its violence, harm and likely the death of this man that they really want. Politicians PUT THE PANTHERS ON NOTICE THAT THEY WILL BE PROSECUTED IF ANY HARM TO ZIMMERMAN OR OTHERS OCURRS!!!!!

FYI-Nobody has actually called the KKK to come harm anyone yet. Most are commenting about the FACT that no WHITE groups are out putting a contract on the panthers or any other black organization over this issue. However, I personaly beleive if blacks start a riot the white supremacists will come out full force. Any of this will be a major tragedy and set this country backs decades. Anybody who gives out addresses suspect or known to be Zimmermans need to go directly to jail, do not pass go and do not collect $200. SAy it this way becasue these people think they are playing a game. Well it's one hell of a dangerous game. Riots start all will come out to play and it will be worse than anything this country has ever seen. STOP IT NOW!!!!!

There is a potential for many lawsuits though I doubt most will be filed in an effort to just "make this go away". This couple, however, probably have lawyers calling them several times a day right now.

The funny thing about the law is that until someone is convicted of a crime, they are not a "murderer" or some of the other things morons are saying around the Internet.

I'm sure a bunch of idiots on a comment section will get away with saying dumb things, but there are news websites and blogs that have been extremely irresponsible.

Actually a lawsuit can be brought against any who tweeted this message and Spike Lee bears a large responsibility in this, he knows that he has many followers and he knows that his name carrys a lot of influence with them, He did not initiate the tweet but he most certainly contributed to it going viral by retweeting it , As for what color/race any of the tweeters are...Who cares, If they tweeted then the become a defendant to the lawsuit, Twitter also becomes a party to the suit for not monitoring their site adequately and shutting it down when they should have forseen a potential for harm to someone .

Don't put (Mr.) in front of Spike Lee's name. If you do that it gives him presteige in the world society which is more than he deserves after doing what he did by tweeting the wrong address or for that matter tweeting any address for "Zimmerman". It is more appropriate to put "The Racist" in front of his name! (Example: "The Racist Spike Lee")

While I don't agree with what Spike Lee did, it was completely irresponsible considering it was inaccurate information and not a way to resolve the problem, some of these comments are crazy. Lock Spike up, arrest him for attempted Murder, etc. It was an error, and thank god these people are safe. Meanwhile Travohn is deceased and it most certainly wasn't an error. Just because we want justice for this young man, it mean's we're racist? I for one am not, and hope this matter is resolved in a non-violent way. Otherwise we're no different than the a** Zimmerman.

Would you want to be called a killer or rapist just because there was one in the media who has your name, I don't think so. Oh and I don't hate, but it is fascinating that when I point the riduculous out, you resort to name calling and insults. shows your mentality doesn't it. as much as I don't like the entitlement mentality, it should never be tied to a race. that just shows ignorance.

Pun~ You lost me there with your last statement. You said that the entitlement mentality should never be tied to a race. At least that's what I get from your post. If this is the case, and I agree with it, why did your post earlier automatically tie the word 'they' (as posted by Confed) to people of color?

I'm also a little curious how you define name calling. Your thought process is slightly immature. Does this translate into an insult? Perhaps you view it as such but then that certainly verifies my comment thus making it an observation rather than a name calling.

                    Love the racist logic here:

                    1) Guy shoots unarmed black teenager for wearing a hoodie (in other words, for being a black teenager)

                    2) People get mad. Black people get especially mad, because ... an unarmed black teenager was shot for wearing a hoodie (in other words, for being a black teenager).

                    3) Racist whites then use the *reaction* to then turn around and call for violent attacks on black people. Oh my gosh, the shooting to death of an unarmed black child by a gun-wielding nut who assumed he was a criminal was bad and all, but DID YOUSEE WHAT SPIKE LEE SAID!!!!!!

Because that's the level of people we're dealing with in this country. All of whom apparently have Internet access and the time to populate every single comment page on every story everywhere.

None of which excuses anyone publishing anyone's address with the thought of directing a mob at them, of course.

And yet when a black teenager is killed by another black teenager for wearing the wrong color hoodie its just another day in the hood, right.

None of what any of them have to say, do, don't say or do...will have absolutely no bearing on the matter as it makes it way through the legal process! All it is is fuel for the fire! They, like the rest of us, were not there on the evening in question, therefore we're all a "NON-FACTOR" as it relates to the criminal case.

Too bad that's not at all what happened.

                    1) Hispanic man gets into a fight with a black man. Both are obviously to blame.

                    2) Hispanic man shoots the black man after getting decked by him.

                    3) The only verified witness testifies to the investigators that the black kid got violent first, which means that due to a controversial Florida law there is no legal grounds for charging him.

                    4) Time passes, no one cares.

                    5) Some media nut looking for cheap ratings discovered that even though Zimmerman himself and his entire family identify him as Hispanic one of his parents is actually Caucasian.

                    6) A bunch of opportunists see a chance for political gain.

                    7) People who have never even heard of the involved parties and certainty didn't witness the crime in question are suddenly outraged at the very idea that a black man could be involved in a violent altercation that resulted in his own death.

                    8) POTUS throws gasoline on the fire. Because you know global warming might not be enough to keep frost away from the oranges, and who doesn't love oranges?

                    9) Congress sees a new opportunity to avoid doing their jobs.

                    10) Spike Lee attempts to assassinate an elderly couple, because he's losing relevance and needs to cash in on this.

                    11) No Justice can ever be found, since even if the only people who should be investigating this, the state of Florida, manage to assemble credible evidence that's not based on mob justice but rather the law the morons in Washington have ensured that no impartial jury can ever exist.

After the Korean Conflict, my Father, an Army Medic over there, used his GI Bill and Graduated from St. Mary's University in San Antonio, TX, 1965. During his student internship, he joined the Brown Beret, an outspoken group that defended Hispanics from denials of economic opportunity (denial of good paying jobs and intimidation-you do this or, you're fired), at some point, the local media quoted him, and at that time, my Mother was separated from him, working in the day and going to evening Vocational Nursing School and supporting two young boys without Child support because, Welfare was not around until 1967. During that time, it was customary to list one's family name in the City Telephone Book. Even though my Mother and us were innocent and naiive of my Father's actions, AS 5TH GENERATION AMERICANS OF MEXICAN HERITAGE, WE WERE THREATENED ON A DAILY BASIS. WE LIVED IN FEAR OF WHITE PEOPLE NOT KNOWING WHO WAS GOING TO ATTACK US. That elderly 70 year old White couple may not have participated in the prejudiced ostracizing of Minorities but, they still supported the vile white behavior by living in comfort from Minority suffering and benefiting by getting the good jobs that Minorities were denied. So, Karma is kicking their assets for living in fear of blacks? Ha, ha, ha ! No mercy for the merciless. They're getting what they deserve. And for all we know, they may have been Nazi German sympathizers who immigrated here after WWII and still got the good jobs because they were white.

Wow, sad. And even if it were the real Zimmerman's address why would you put it on Twitter so people can go and do him harm? I believe he is 100% guilty of manslaughter at the very least, and probably premeditated murder, but I couldn't live with myself if I incited somebody to go to his house and kill him! Let the law get him and send him to prison. Probably a fate worse than death!

I agree 100% with your sentiment, EXCEPT... our legal system doesn't define guilt on your belief, 100% or not. Fortunately. Not only should we not lynch this man, but we shouldn't declare his guilt until it is PROVED in a court of law. Declaring his guilt only encourages those who WOULD incite others to violence.

This is why Obama has failed - nothing has changed with the Black Community, which was really the only reason to vote for him in the last election.

Spike Lee should be ashamed of himself as what he did is simply vigilantism and, as these people are afraid for their lives (which was Lee's intention), not much different from lynching. The family is trying to make a profit off of the kid. Jesse Jackson & other Black leaders are grandstanding for their own gain. Same as it ever was.

Geez that is just crazy. Obama (who as a reminder is half white) preached personal responsibility in his campaign very much along the lines of Bill Cosby (go back and read his speeches). He is NOT responsible however for changing the black community. That would be going far beyond the bounds of his job description. He is the President of ALL Americans (whether some of you like it or not). Call him the 'food stamp President" (to quote Gingrich) if you like but that is a result of the economic collapse which all rational economists have suggested will take at least a decade from which to recover. The poor are still poor and that should come as no surprise to those who will never accept any sort of redistribution of wealth.

This case is about the extremes on both sides leaping to conclusions. I heard the Far Right version this morning at my office and it is just as bad as anything I have heard from the extremes on the Left.

The rest of us will hopefully allow justice to take its course and let the investigation play itself out. And accept whatever results may come.

When all of this came up in the Media about Tavyn Martin I told my husband that I thought the media was trying the case and should stay out of it and let justice be served. He insisted the shooter was guilty and we went back and forth and agreed to disagree. Now there are additional facts that the shooter may have been attacked. I am not sure if the shooter is guilty or not..but now we have a situation where either way this goes there could be race riots. There is no justice for Tavyn or the shooter and untold damage and destruction and worsening of current race relations.
