Pit bulls are beautiful dogs that need a strong owner to train and raise them correctly, not some wishy washy fool of an owner who can't even control her own impulses. The very sad thing is, if any of these dogs are allowed to stay in her care, I have no doubt her inability to be a good owner will cause misfortune down the road for the animals and will do nothing to improve the Pit bull image.

I have a pitbull and he's the best dog I've ever owned. The thing that people don't tell new pet owners is pitbulls need training and lots of exercise, they are not dogs that do well left on their own. Also you need to show them your boss through training and positive reinforcement. Another thing to mention is never hit your pit or keep him locked up on a leach or chain for days because those are the tops reasons they go violent. If you train a pitbull and keep up on their training, they are best dog you can ever own, they are such lovers and people pleasers.

@dr. girlfriend- I think that MEL PORT was pointing out that those puppy-throwing flakes were being referred to as rednecks, thus maiming the redneck image/character being lumped together with such actions. I'll be honest, the 'rednecks' I know don't live in apartment buildings like the article describes. Far from it. Rednecks are also more honorable than 'white-trash' folks. The puppy-chuckers are clearly white-trash. 'Redneck's'-good ... 'white-trash'-bad. I hope I successfully cleared up this misunderstanding.

And the couple in question is a mixed race couple. She is black, he is white. Why slam a dog? Pit bulls can and are loving pets, as long as a person understands the breed and properly trains and cares for them. As are Akitas, Rottweilers, German shepherds and Doberman Pinchers --- all breeds that have or have had reputations as being vicious.

Seriously?!? There's absolutely nothing wrong with pit bulls. Years ago, everyone was scared of German shepards, then dobermans, then rottweilers, now it's pits. It's not the dog, it's the @-hole people who train them to fight. Stop the hysteria. These are living creatures that deserve to be treated kindly.
