Subscribe to RSSMIAMI -- At least one gunman opened fire on a crowd or mourners gathered at a Miami-area funeral home, killing two people and injuring 12, authorities said.
The shooting happened Friday night at Funeraria Latina Emanuel in the North Miami area. More than 100 people were gathered outside the funeral home when a car drove by and at least one person inside the vehicle fired shots, reportedly with a high-powered weapon, the Miami Herald reported.
"Horror, it was horrible and it was sounds of horror," said pastor A.D. Lenoir of Westview Baptist Church, NBC 6 Miami reported.
Lenoir had just finished officiating the service for 21-year-old Marvin Andre, who was killed in a March 18 shooting, according to witnesses. He was buried at nearby Southern Memorial Park Saturday morning
Among the injured was a 5-year-old girl, McKayla Bazile, according to authorities.
"I grabbed her so we could go and she was screaming and I'm like 'why are you screaming,' I thought she was scared," said Someta Etienne, WSVN-TV reported. "Then I saw the blood coming from her pants."
Alvaro Zabaleta of Miami-Dade Police said that it is too early to determine the motive for the shooting.
"Whenever you have these types of services, you have a lot of people present, they all become witnesses," Zabaleta said. "Too early to tell what the motive may be and if the person in the viewing has anything to do with it."
An eyewitness told NBC 6 that a suspect in a white Pontiac opened fire on people as they waited outside for their turn to view the body.
"I was in the foyer, shaking hands, galvanizing with the people and shots were fired," said Lenoir.
Police were looking for six men who were in a white 2006 or 2009 Pontiac or Impala, according to WSVN-TV.

No, what Congress needs to do is pass a law that requires every citizen to carry a weapon. Every citizen at some point will need to defend him/herself, so Congress should compel everyone to be ready to do so. I don't remember where I heard this logic recently, but it certainly made sense.
Constitutionally, there are several places that give Congress the ability to do this: Article I, Section 8, Clause 1 (The Congress shall have Power To ... provide for the common Defence); Clause 15 (To provide for calling forth the Militia); Clause 16 (To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the Militia...); and of course, the 2nd Amendment.
My condolences to the families involved. How sad a gang, thugs, whatever they want to call themselves....can get by with this type of crime. And here it goes...we DO need the death penalty for heinous crimes against children and others, as well as what these types of "people" I would call, a terrorist gang. Color of skin makes no difference...shooting into a crowd from a drive-by shooting is terror to those being attacked!!
"When there's no doubt...just take them out..." and that's obtained by a court trial within 3 months of being arrested for the crime, then one appeal within another 3 months, and then if convicted....the death penalty. But it doesn't stop those crimes. The DP was once more widely used in the US than now, but it didn't stop the crimes that fit the DP request. And, we all are (or should be) aware that totally innocent men have been on Death Row for years prior to their being found not guilty by means of DNA testing that wasn't available at the time of their trials.
I will never be convinced that the DP does anything other than make us legalized murderers.

There are actually several organizations... NO NOT THE NRA... that propose those of us who legally carry, actually have a civic duty to do so in order to not only protect ourselves and our families but those other people in the population who chose to be victims by not carrying a firearm.
To be honest, I was in that situation one time. I came to the aide of an elderly man (not that I'm young by any stretch of the imagination!!) who was being kicked viciously by several "youth". When I intervened, they turned their attention to me, but chose to run when they saw I was NOT going without taking one or more before they could get to me. The victim AND police thanked me for getting involved.
Works for me! My friend and I were told by some gentlemen in Boston that they wanted our money. Needed help now, and the police were minutes away. My friend reached into his jacket and pulled out his .357 Magnum; LOL, what a surprise for the bad guys!
I later thanked my buddy, and I reckon Fruit-of-the-Looms had a stimulus that night when the gentlemen replaced their undies.
For the record, my friend told the knuckleheads to "run". Duh.

Actually, local and state funds for emergency response systems took their initial hit from the Bush adm., when it needed funding for the illegal Iraq war. The gov't. had to shrink money amounts previously given to states (which, in turn, gave to the local municipalities), because it no longer had it. Local and state taxes have attempted to replenish the lost funds, but they have not been able to do so.

We used to have a nice law abiding neighbor who owned a gun. He shot and killed his wife over a dinner he didn't like, many years ago.
It would have been much better had he had no gun. Or don't you think so?
It would have been better if the wife had had the means to defend herself and had not been unlawfully killed.
You seem to be claiming that the wife might still be alive had the husband not had a firearm. He would have used something else; knife, hammer, fist. She might have survived that attack, but he probably would have eventually killed her.

I'm beginning to think the 1800's are on the way back based on all the shootings taking place. Before long people will want to pack a weapon wherever they go because of all the crazies out there- at least have some chance for survival. In my city there were a little over 100 homocides in '11; As of the first quarter of '12 we already beat this statistic and shows no signs of letting up!

Been in several countries when I was in the military. Gun control did not stop the criminal if they wanted a gun. However, gun control did place the citizens at the mercy of anyone who had a gun.
That also included their own government. Syrian citizens are not supposed to have side arms or semi-automatic rifles. Look how many "armed (with rocks) insurgents" were-gunned down by their government.
In Germany, the Jewish people were "unarmed" and butchered.
We can even look at South Africa and several other countries today which are killing "unarmed insurgents/rebels."
