Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents take a suspect into custody as part of a nationwide immigration sweep in Chula Vista, Calif., on Friday.
Federal agents arrested more than 3,100 unauthorized immigrants last week in the country’s biggest-ever operation targeting criminal and fugitive immigrants for deportation, immigration officials said Monday.
From last Saturday to Thursday, agents in all 50 states used intelligence to track down certain immigrants.
The agents started before dawn; a supervisor would brief them about the person they aimed to arrest that day. In Dallas, a video from the raid on the Immigration and Customs Enforcement website shows a supervisor describing a man who had been deported before and who had a drunk-driving conviction.
The agents then headed to the person’s home, hoping to reach them before the person could leave for the day.
The roundup was the third “Cross Check” sweep since May 2011. In last week's raid, 1,900 agents arrested 3,168 immigrants, 90 percent of them men.
"These are people we do not want roaming our streets," John Morton, director of ICE, said at a news conference, according to Reuters. He said those arrested included almost 1,500 people with felony convictions, including murder and kidnapping.
Among those arrested were Carlington David Richards, 34, of Jamaica, who was living in Federal Way, Wash. Richards had recently moved to the U.S. and is wanted in Jamaica for murder, according to ICE.
Jose Angel Duran-Ramos, 66, of Mexico, was living in El Paso, Texas, and was convicted of murder in 1984 and sentenced to 18 years in prison.
Veasna Uy, 34, of Cambodia, was living in Long Beach, Calif., and was convicted of manslaughter, attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon in 2000.
Gillian Christensen, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman, told msnbc.com that the agency has focused on deporting known criminals since President Barack Obama took office. Now, 50 percent of deported immigrants have prior criminal records. In 2008, about 30 percent had criminal records.
There were 11.9 million unauthorized immigrants living in the U.S. in 2008, about 4 percent of the nation’s population, according to the Pew Research Center. Last year, the service deported 396,000 people.

All I can say is: !
11,900,000 / 3100 = 3838.709...if this type of sweep has been conducted 3 times since may of 2011 (once every 6 months roughly)...it should only take 1,920 more years to complete the job...IF WE SECURE THE BORDERS between now and then...
Americans DEMAND that ALL ILLEGAL FOREIGN NATIONALS be deported upon being identified as such--- ALL--- not just some!
It's a good start, but still only a drop in the bucket when it comes to the illegal immigration problem. the real issue is that while Obama has stepped up deportations, his failure to secure the border, and in fact weakening of border security, means that more illegals have come into the country than have been deported by a huge margin.
AngelicaS - exactly what Americans are you referring to? Don't include me because I don't demand that ALL be deported. I have a brain and can actually think rather than simply spouting fringe republican rhetoric.
JS, there are more agents patrolling our southern border now then at any other point in our history. Please explain how Obama has weakend the border.
While I applaud the arrests they represent 0.0258 percent of the administration number of 12 million illegals. If you use the higher number of 20 million it is 0.0155 percent. I think today's birth rate among illegals just wiped that out.
????
Apparently, many of these of illegals who have been deported at least once. With all the money spent on Homeland Security, why is it so easy to get into this country in the first place?
Nothing said, of course, about the EMPLOYERS who perpetuate illegal immigration by hiring cheap labor to skirt safety, pay, and benefit responsibilities. If illegals can't find jobs, then they won't flock here.
BUT joemike sure knows how to repeat Democrat talking points like a parrot!..
Bye
Randy, what exactly did I say that's not true?
I don't see you refuting anything he said with fact though, do I.
How about allowing border state's law enforcement agents assist in enforcing federal law instead of suing to prevent states from asking for identification???
Why not show up at the rallies they hold? That should net a bunch.
How do they keep getting hired??! and now American Governers want to hire non-union, really!??
The number is closer to 20-30 million illegal aliens but the news media doesn't want to "inflame anti-immigrant sentiment".
Ah yes just what I anticipated, Anti obama sentiment even though He's doing more to tackle immigration issue with a well thought out plan. Also minimizing how significant this is the fact that we are taking out the right ones is awesome. It's not a widespread kick out of all illegals, as it shouldn't be (our economy could not take that hit, besides the fact of it being wrong and inhumane). Glad to see the xenpphobes stick to their guns in spite of facts!
Most "Americans" are not the ones demanding all illegal foreign nationals be deported. Politicians and media blowhards in desperate need of an audience are the ones doing the bulk of the shouting. I'm an American. Please do not include me in that group. I can think and act for myself, thankyou.
I have high "suspicions" on what is going to happen to these folks since Mr. Obama had the DHS implement "new procedures" for the Illegal Immigration population:
Now, why is it that the media reports this "sweep" and NOT Mr. Obama's Liberal Cabinet members "new procedures" to ALLOW Illegal Aliens (Immigrants) remain in this country bypassing Congressional legislation ? These "new procedures" were supposed to be released TODAY.
Oh, BTW....just went to my local Post Office and the "Latinos" were lined up for their new U.S. passports.
Obama has touted this statistic about border patrol agents in his immigration speeches before. In July 2010, we fact-checked the president's claim that "Today, we have more boots on the ground near the southwest border than at any time in our history." (the same phrase he used in El Paso). And last month, our colleagues at PolitiFact Georgia checked Obama's claim in a TV interview that "We have now more Border Patrol officers … than we’ve had at any time in our history."
We rated both of those claims Mostly True, noting that while border patrol manpower is at an all-time modern high, President Woodrow Wilson sent between 75,000 and 150,000 troops to the U.S.-Mexico border in 1916 to quell a surprise attack in the New Mexico town of Columbus by Pancho Villa, a military venture otherwise known as the Mexican Expedition of 1916.
Here, we decided to focus on Obama's claim that "the Border Patrol has 20,000 agents -- more than twice as many as there were in 2004."
There were 20,745 border patrol agents as of April 9, 2011; 17,659 of them stationed along the southwest border with Mexico, according to data provided by Steven Cribby, a spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security.
That's up from 17,499 border patrol agents at the end of September 2008, four months before Obama took office (an 18 percent increase).
"Jack Martin, special projects director at the Federation for American Immigration Reform, which supports stricter illegal immigration guidelines, said Obama's statistic is true but that much of the credit for starting the trend toward more border security goes to Obama's predecessor."
"There has been a steady buildup of BP officers for several years given impetus by the 9/11 attacks," Martin said. "The increase has by necessity been gradual because it is limited by the capacity of the BP training facility."
This also does not say how many are there to observe only and to do paperwork. Also these officers are not even armed.
I just googled the border patrol to see what I could find. The thing that stuck out the most was the corruption of the agents. I read that as of June last year there was 267 open investigations of corruption & 160 convictions since 2004.
That's bad when the agents are helping them smuggle people & dope into the country. I'm going to see what else I can find, it's interesting.
Joemike404, what you said that wasn't true is you can think. What you forgot is all illegal immigrants are criminals by the very fact that they are in the country illegally. Even if they were brought here by their parents and not of their own free will and they need to leave now or be removed forcibly. The President the second he stated to homeland security and ICE to not remove immigrants that did not commit crimes committed a crime himself. He is required to enforce all laws of the land no matter if he likes them or not and cannot give an order that would require law-enforcement to assist criminals to break to laws, it is know as assisting to harboring illegal immigrants. his order was Constitutionally illegal.
Now just 145 million left. I thought every "illegal " was a criminal? Need to change illegal to "just not supposed to be here" I guess.
I have yet to meet a liberal Bubba,,, just saying... Also what your suggesting would cripple our economy... Even if Obama did what you suggest you would blame him for the collapse of the American economy
I found something I can't believe on the border patrols website on page 2.
"Our Department of Homeland Security takes pride in saying that thousands of people have not been victims of terror in the USA since 9/11. The problem for them, and for us is ... that it is just not true.
Since 9/11, America's civilian terror toll has increased by over 12 deaths a day.
Our cumulative civilian terror toll since 9/11 is over 25,000 American citizens. That body count is the cumulative death toll inside this country at the hands of illegal aliens. Yes, America's civilian terror toll within the borders of the United States increases at a rate of more than 12 dead Americans a day.
It is a real surprise for most Americans until they do the math. Twelve dead a day, times 365 days, times all the years since 9/11."
I can't believe they would post such bad press on their own web site. I did the math it comes to 48,180 people since 9/11.
well joemike include this registered democrat as 1 who wants em deported! dont try acting like its only republicans!!!!!!!
nevermind I read some more I missed the disclaimer that it is not affiliated with the government.
more than likely BS, sorry for that.
stc1993....don't apologize.
The Liberals do that all the time....they go to a site which "attempts" to provide data for Mr. Obama's talking points and turns out, it is some Chinese 50 Cent Twitter Lady in Beijing who published the article.
if people could only just see the hypocracy to spend our money to make jobs, working as government security. now in case those of you who dont know, allow me to intruduce talking points. talking points, relate (not doing it from a dictionary, you people aint that slow) to what in this case the actual STORY is about. this is to include, doing a little mental thinking to corrolate with what is at hand, other than what stinking party you want your head in your darkside. allow to to break something down, so more can actually wake up and smell the coffee shall i say?
from 30-about 50% now have criminal records that they deport. ok, they NOW have this and its for the same dam thing, and getting caught, they were up to something, AGAIN, because its in most cases the only way you can send the trash back where it came from. but this is actually saying, the same f'ing people, they are sending back, AGAIN!
this is saying, that, you have 198,000 repeat offenders now, from if i did my math in my head right, up from 188,800, close to 10,000 new repeat offenders.
ok, now we all know there is no way our constitution will allow a nation wide door to door search looking for illegals, and personally i dont think i would be anything up for that personally, because that would mean we have no constitution. not as we know it as today.
That leaves sealing off the border. they say it cant be done, but i dont care when it happend, a bunch of china men built the great wall of china, without anything close to the machinery we have capable to produce such a feat, altho being done by unions, exspect welfare labor of about 2-5%. (those are the drools who watch everyone else work, untill the forman is around. thats ok tho. their time comes because its EVERYONES taxdollars. personally i am proud to be working, and yes, believe in earning my pay, and taking pride in my job. i also believe a union is what you make it. if your union supports the lazy slobs, then you can change that. its your union, and if your sick of the bad rep, do something. make your union strong, with people who work, and respect that taxpayers are keeping your @ss out of a ditch living in a cardboard box.
sry as well, back on track. this "ilegal alien" thing is nothing but a scam the gov is using to make bigger, stronger government. you have more agencies that handle weapons and types of various law enforcement that you can shake a stick at, to include 11.9 million illlegals giving people a reason, or shall i say excuse to to buy into we need all this. if we put up a wall at whatever hight you want, with motion sensors and a few patrols, how cheap would that wall need to be to make up for the cost of ICE alone? wall would be a lot cheaper in the long run, trust me.
Why is it a 5 year old can pick up a gun and kill someone and they are not a criminal yet a 5 day old brought to this country is a criminal forever?
Obama is doing more? Well i guess he is doing more than nothing but there is much more work to be done. And i fail to see why this has to be a democrat or republican issue, we have way to many illegals in this country period. This country is struggling right now and has been for the last several years and will be for the next several! The last thing our country needs are 12 million illegals draining the social services that our tax dollars go to, that money could be well spent on infrastructure which would create jobs for out of work AMERICAN CITIZENS !!!
Ido, the one about the corruption was real, the second one about the death toll is suspect.
armyofinsight, I'm not saying there is not a way to make it so that they can't stay in this Country if.
1 They have a job.
2 They pay taxes.
3 They pay their bills if they leave.
They sign up for the following program.
Here is how. A company that hires them is responsible for making sure they have good housing, medical, and if they leave the country the company pays all bills left behind. That is until they become Citizens once that happens the company is no longer responsible for any debt left behind. No the company would not pay the bills the worker would be responsible for their own bills (housing, medical) while here, but the company would have to make sure there was a place to live. The Government would have to verify the information another job or two created see I helped Obama create jobs.
So, the latest 'catch and release' program just justified a budget increase. Now, how many that are deported are back in the country in less than 48 hours? I recently sat in on a trial in federal court in Houston, prior to the trial's commencement they brought in a large group of prisoners and the judge was there to pass sentence on them. NONE of them were American citizens, all were illegals and every last one was a repeat offender. The crimes ranged from drugs, to assault, to attempted rape, to robbery and not one was an American citizen. The judge handed out jail time, incarceration in American prisons on taxpayer monies and, upon completion of sentence. all were to be deported.
One fellow in particular had been caught and released seven times. Each time he was deported and each time he returned here and committed more crimes.
Something is seriously wrong with this picture and it starts at the border. Personally, if a convicted felon returns and is committing more crimes then the penalty should be life without parole. We're paying for them anyways, might as well send a message that repeat offenders will indeed face a punishment which they will thing twice about incurring. Wrist slaps and deportations are a joke.
Please let me know where you found that fact.
In 1994 there were 11,000 CBP (customs & Border Protection)officers at the border and Bush committed 564 National Guard troops. Under President Obama the number of CBP agents has grown to 20,000+ and the National Guard troop deployment has increased to 1200, their efforts now augmented by the deployment of several unmanned Predator drones.
They are using Nogales, AZ to test a surveillance system that will continuously monitor 4 square miles or provide scanning monitoring for up to ten square miles. The technology also includes retina scanners that are reportedly accurate up to 15 feet away with the person being scanned running. Its called 'Wide Area Surveillance System'. Plans are also underway to fit the system to those Predator drones and fly that over the area in all the border states. That's partly why they got the permission to allow drones in US skies.
They have also successfully tested DNA scanning (results in 10 seconds) with portable DNA scanners at border stops in TX and are expanding that out to the rest of the US/Mexico border. By taking DNA from every person stopped at the border and logging those results and comparing that with DNA taken from everyone currently in ICE custody and everyone whose DNA was ever taken during a law enforcement investigation, they can stop at the border anyone who is related to someone who has been deported or is in deportation proceedings or has broken the law in any way or has even been suspected of having broken the law. After all, if your father, mother, brother, sister, uncle, aunt, niece or nephew is illegal or undocumented, chances are likely you are too so if your DNA is taken and it shows kinship with someone currently being held you too can be deported. They are also planning on rolling that out at airports and adding a cheek swab to the pre-flight check-in so that if you have a relative who is illegal you can be allowed to leave and not return. If you share the same name as someone on the no-fly list you could be allowed to leave but barred from returning. Eventually they want to have these DNA scanners in every ICE office, airport, police station and prison.
So tell me how that's not enforcing border security.
The largest ever sweep. Yet more evidence that the Obama administration is refusing to enforce immigration law...
KRedcorn,
"President Woodrow Wilson sent between 75,000 and 150,000 troops to the U.S.-Mexico border in 1916 to quell a surprise attack in the New Mexico town of Columbus by Pancho Villa, a military venture otherwise known as the Mexican Expedition of 1916."
Actually, Wilson sent over 75,000 troops, led by General John "Black Jack" Pershing ACROSS the border, raiding, looting and destroying much of the Mexican state of Chihuahua. None were sent to "secure the border", but to capture or kill Pancho Villa. G.S Patton received his first combat experience as one of Pershing's junior officers during this "expedition". The expedition spent about 10 months in Mexico, accomplished NO military or political goal, and failed its only charge - to capture or kill Villa. Mexico was in the middle of a civil war at this time, but the United States had no appreciable military forces, or police, located on the border. Much like the state of the US Army in 1812 when the British invaded, the US Army equaled 600 regular troops and officers to secure nearly half a continent.
Our next "Expeditionary Force" was about 10 times larger and went to France, under Pershing with Patton as a junior officer. Fighting the Germans. And Wilson received such good support at home and globally, that we got to do it again 25 years later, with even more men.
3,168 is only 0.01% of them! Sweeping? Try again!

I wish I knew the answer to that.
Although it was not my fault that USCIS lost my adoption paper, and it was not my fault that I was not told I was adopted before dad and Mom ded in a car crash, for the rest of my life I have to tell every employer I apply with that my background check is squeaky clean, no arrests, not even so much as a parking ticket, I do have to disclose that I am a 'former' illegal and I have a 3 year prison record with ICE. My youngest son is autistic and i tried to apply for medical assistance in my state so he could get special education services from his school, but they nearly denied him because they said I wasn't honest on my application. I checked off 'citizen' in the blank for me because I now have a naturalization certificate, and I checked off citizen for my husband because he's Cherokee. There was no blank for 'are you a former illegal' and since I got my naturalization certificate before I got married and before he was even born, I didn't see a need to mention that on our social services forms.
But this 'former illegal' thing is going to follow me for the rest of my life and it's NOT FAIR!!!
Yeah, sweeping. More like using a tiny brush to clean a coliseum.
Burning Brightly
"Now just 145 million left. I thought every "illegal " was a criminal? Need to change illegal to "just not supposed to be here" I guess."
So not quite half the population? What, I guess the Jews fleeing Hitler, WWII war-brides, refugees from Viet Nam, Cambodia or Iraq are all illegal in your eyes. How about all those here on green cards and visas? Who chooses 'just not supposed to be here'? You?
ldo,
Just like we haven't heard about more raids on Iowa Beef Packing plants. These are typically located in rural communities, not cities, to avoid property tax issues. But they then depend upon importing labor. One raid netted nearly an entire shift, and half the population of the town (about 1400 total). But this is Rep Steve King's area and IBP is an important constituent (can you say contributor). Oddly, we also haven't heard of more raids on Tyson plants either.
I blieve these targeted sweeps are more effective. The focuses appear to be be crime related. As for the idiotic comments in regard to "catch and release" program. I would venture to say that these criminals will most likely serve their sentence and then get deported.
If they have already served their sentence, then they will be deported. If these character returns illegally, then we will deal with it at a later time. I do not agree with spending millions if not billions of our precious tax dollars on programs that do not effectively keep out undocumented immigrants. So does this mean the cat and mouse game continue? YES, because there are more important things that require repair and maintenance.
Again, I will not allow spending tens of thousands per undocument person to keep him/her out! Are you guys nuts! Is this coming out of the same people who want to balance our budgets? and not run a deficit?.... SIGH.... Why is it that the rules only apply to others, except yourself???
Amanda, you need to check your facts about the increase in BP agents. Your right about the part it started in the 90's, but it was under Bush when the number of agents doubled. When Bush took office in 2000 there was 8,580 agents in 2008 there was 17,499. I got around the same numbers from 3 different websites. This is the one I liked best that explained it pretty good from the politifact web site.
" There were 20,745 border patrol agents as of April 9, 2011; 17,659 of them stationed along the southwest border with Mexico, according to data provided by Steven Cribby, a spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security.
That's up from 17,499 border patrol agents at the end of September 2008, four months before Obama took office (an 18 percent increase).
Singling out just the border patrol agents along the U.S.-Mexico border, the number has increased from 15,422 to 17,659 (a 14 percent increase)."
It was under Bush that most of the increases happened.
"3,168 undocumented immigrants held in largest-ever sweep"
"Federal agents arrested more than 3,100 unauthorized immigrants..."
Great job not using the word "illegal" MSNBC, we wouldn't want to inform dumb Americans of reality now would we? (sarcasm)
"held" and a"arrested" mean little.... how many will actually be deported?
P.S.
"These are people we do not want roaming our streets," John Morton, director of ICE, said"
But the other 12 million criminals are?
How is this going to do any good? The US will deport them and they will sneak back in tomorrow. What a waste of taxpayer's money. We could not possibly afford to put them all in prison. Until we are ready to make sure that they cannot possibly return after detaining them, there is absolutely no point in these roundups. How do we make sure that they cannot return? Whatever it takes, amigo...
tthurd: Yup, if they return (when) they return, we will again get to deal with them again, at a later date, over and over and over... That should indeed gladden your heart. Guess seven deportations and seven opportunities to once again, deal with the same criminal, isn't perhaps a wee mite too many 'dealings?'
Guess you don't remember 'the train killer' aka: Recendez Ramirez. Seems he got deported several times and each time he came back he brutally murdered lots of people. He's not unique, BTW.
As to rules applying to 'others,' are those 'others' American citizens?
Here's a site detailing the history of a repeat deportee, Resendez, who was finally executed. It isn't know exactly how many people he killed, however, he came back after being deported on several occasions, each time he brutally murdered people within 48 hours of his return. Guess he had the opportunity of being 'dealt with' repeatedly, wonder if your tax dollars shouldn't have been spent on his apprehension?
http://www.americanpatrol.com/CRIME/RESENDEZ/resendez-history.html
You're right in this respct JoeMike (#1.4) and GooRul (#1.17) --- I should have said "All Americans with an IQ over 100, with a conscience, with a sense of justice and right and wrong"---
There is nothing just or moral about incentiving more immigration lawbreaking by rewarding it. Why would anyone feel the need to immigrate legally (including paying the high price, waiting the wait, etc) if you can do so in violation of our laws and then receive de facto amnesty for doing so.
I AGREE WITH DM2009696 (#1.25) I am not a Republican or a "Blowhard". I am a life long progressive Democrat with a sense of justice. What this means is that I choose to reward those who play by our rules and not grant preferential treatment to the lawbreakers. I also don't want for the lawbreaking business profiteers to be able to out-compete the lawabiding businesses. That is WRONG!
What is wrong with Obama's policies is that he has openly pledged to reward the immigration lawbreakers and his decision to sell out American and LEGAL immigrant workers in favor of the immigration lawbreakers and their insufferable advocates. Based upon Obama's 2011 decision to bypass Congressoinal enactments and subvert American immigration laws, there were fewer deportations in the fourth quarter.
Someone from the DNC called me tonight for a donation, and he received an earful on this issue (and NO donation). The Democratic party has opted to sell out American and LEGAL immigrant workers and the American taxpayers who are being forced to subsidize the blackmarket labor scheme (healthcare and other social welfare costs in the hundreds of billions of dollars per year)!
As Cornell Professor Vernon Briggs as commented so eloquently:
Anjelica: Excellent post and spot on.
GTFO!
Anjelica: Agree, good post.
I would recommend you send an Email to Mr. Obama, Mr. Biden, the DHS, and the DOJ concerning your following statement:

Without securing the border, deporting illegal aliens is like trying to bail the boat with a sieve. The Feds are doing it half-ass since they would rather be chasing ragheads half way across the globe than protecting their country at home. More money in it for the military industrial complex.
ldo...
You should be ashamed. Your racist comments regarding Latinos lining up for their passports offended me greatly. I guess because you are caucasian and your parents immigrated here along with everyone else that it makes you superior. Ido - these are people - not rats or vermin. I hope you realize that you truly are a biggot and get the help you need.
People need to wake up and realize that every single one of us is an immigrant to this country (and yes most of us illegally throughout our history). Now in terms of illegal immigration I do believe the right course of action is to further secure the borders (which Obama has done) and create a path for illegals in this country to gain citizenship. I agree with many of the other posters that the economy would indeed collapse if we kicked out every illegal. However, the tax revenue from these workers "getting on the books" would be a blessing for a country with a large amount of debt.
Why does the media soften the situation by calling them "undocumented immigrants"? They're "illegal aliens" plain and simple. People not of natural origin to this land are "aliens" (not in the sci-fi sense), and if they are in our country without registering themselves through our immigration services, then they are here "illegally". It's like the media thinks "illegal alien" is the new N-word, so they call illegals some other name that is perceived to be more PC. What a load of crap.
Also, our government needs to start cracking down on those companies, individuals, and families that would harbor illegals. It's no different than if a citizen had a warrant for their arrest for even misdemeanor crime, and their friends and family were hiding them from the police, evading arrest. These flop houses, car dealerships, and real estate transactions to illegals should come under the radar. If illegals figure out there is no underground support system awaiting them in the US, then maybe they'll be less inclined to come for the free ride.
DNS could round up a few hundred thousand here in NJ/Phila area if they had a nice raid. All you have to do is go to the local gas stations on a friday night about 5 pm after they cashed their check at the check cashing hole in the wall and they are all sending their US dollars they just robbed back to Mexico by way of money wire. What is even more obnoxious is there are actual signs on these store windows advertising 'Send money to Mexico'. Yes, steal it from dumb US employers that keep hiring you and send it all back to Mexico to support the ever growing corrupt country. What a joke.
In border patrol maybe. Bush also did assign National Guard troops to the US Mexico Border--564.
Under President Obama, there have been some increases in Border patrol complement--but the President has also committed 1200 National Guard troops and has also poured funding into Homeland Security (2002=Homeland Security's budget was $49 million, in 2011 it was $98 billion) for the development, testing and purchase of such technologies as the WAASS, (Wide Area Aerial Surveillance System) portable DNA scanners, at-distance retinal scanners.
He also pushed through laws that will allow Homeland Security to put drones in American skies with these aerial surveillance systems to watch 10 square miles of land area--thus enabling authorities to watch some of the longer stretches of the border where it's not as easy to patrol. Instead of one CBP officer patrolling a couple square miles, they can utilize the drones to cover more ground with lower cost as the people of the US have been demanding. And since those drones are also equipped with MIT's Xaver 800 Through-Wall Imaging System, they'll also be able to monitor residences of US citizens along the border to see if these are smuggling immigrants in an Underground Railroad type of operation.
And since Homeland Security now classifies anything that goes against the US and its allies interests as terrorism, illegals are soon going to all become illegal terrorists ad be sent to places like Guantanamo--along with any US Citizens who helped them as soon as the Enemy Expatriation Act passes to allow the government to strip citizenship from USCs who harbor illegals and political dissident refugees from countries that are not officially designated allies.
There is a difference between illegal and undocumented.
'Illegal' is the person who hopped the border, shot a cop, deals drugs and hurts people.
The 'undocumented' are those who are simply missing a piece of paper. Not every person in the world is blessed to live in a place where records are scrupulously kept. Not every person in the world has birth certificate. It's only been in the last fifty or so years that birth certificates became commonplace--for those who were born before the civil rights movement, particularly older blacks, many of them don't have one.
And in the case of US Immigration wait times--let's take Mexico, for example. In 2010, USCIS was just getting to applications filed in 1994.That's a wait of sixteen years. And during those 16 years, their permit to live here expires but they can't leave until they hear from USCIS--unless ICE rounds them up and forces them to leave. By the time USCIS gets around to looking at those applications, the person who filed it has already been deported by ICE as an illegal because it took too long to get to the application. And everything they worked for--homes, cars, bank accounts--goes into the government coffers as 'civil asset forfeiture'. That's where some of the homes and cars in government auctions come from.
Not all who are 'illegal' came here illegally.
Amanda -
What law abiding, and law respecting American would harbor illegals? There's not a single one. Illegal aliens, and any Americans who employ or harbor them, should be charged with crimes.
Want to change the laws? You want open borders? It is your right to advocate that the laws be changed. But until the law is changed, we, as Americans, all have a responsibility to respect the rule of law.
And to the media, PLEASE stop calling them Undocumented Immigrants. They are ILLEGAL ALIENS. They are immigrants if, and only if, they have paperwork. Call them Undocumented Aliens, even, but do not call them immigrants.
Your point is taken. I'd be curious to know how many of our current aliens are undocumented, and how many are illegal, as you say. I'd venture to say the overwhelming majority are illegals, in that they hopped the border. Yes, there are probably some who fit your description of undocumented, but I'd bet they are a tiny minority compared to how many have simply broken our laws and entered our country illegally.
Haroldwolf,
You wouldn't be referring to those anchor babies, would you?
Bubba, being in this country illegally is not a criminal offense, it is a civil one. Therefore, they are NOT criminals. The President did not order homeland security and ICE to not remove immigrants that did not commit crimes. He ordered them to put a higher priority on deporting those that had committed a crime. So, your point about the President committing a crime is a false one.
With US manufacturing plants now opening up in Mexico and jobs becoming easier to obtain there than here, and as more information comes out about American deportation camps and the rampant human rights abuses plus the daunting possibility of being separated from their children, many undocumenteds are trying to leave and go back to Mexico by hiding in barns by day and moving by night. People could be harboring and not know it.
There are also USCs who work as drug mules for the Mexican drugs--they'll pick up loads dropped and bring them back in. Also there are legal USC's who will walk into a gun shop in one of the border states, buy massive purchases of assault rifles and weapons in US shops, then smuggle those guns in parts back over the border for the cartels in exchange for money and/or drugs.
President Obama tried, earlier on in his administration to pass an initiative that would get gunshop owners to report any mass sales of heavy weaponry--say if someone were to walk into a shop and buy 30 Bushmaster hunting rifles in one purchase, that should be reported because why would you need to buy that many all at one time? But the gunshop owners protested this, saying that it would cut into their profits and the NRA said President Obama was declaring war on the citizens' right to own guns and so those weapons sold in these shops are fueling the border wars and arming the cartels who then shoot at the border agents.
They aren't breaking any laws, mind you--there's nothing saying these people cant buy 30 hunting rifles at once, nothing saying they can't sell those guns to whoever they want, nothing saying they can't receive money for selling them. It's ll perfectly legal.
Have a look at this article from 2009:
An official Immigration and Customs Enforcement database, obtained under the Freedom of Information Act, showed a U.S. detainee population of exactly 32,000 on the evening of Jan. 25.
The data show that 18,690 immigrants had no criminal conviction, not even for illegal entry or low-level crimes like trespassing. More than 400 of those with no criminal record had been incarcerated for at least a year. A dozen had been held for three years or more; one man from China had been locked up for more than five years.
Nearly 10,000 had been in custody longer than 31 days -- the average detention stay that ICE cites as evidence of its effective detention management.
Based on a 2001 ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court, ICE has about six months to deport or release immigrants after their case is decided. But immigration lawyers say that deadline is routinely missed. In the system snapshot provided to the AP, 950 people were in that category.
Immigration lawyers note that substantial numbers of detainees, from 177 countries in the data provided, are not illegal immigrants at all. Many of the longest-term non-criminal detainees are asylum seekers fighting to stay here because they fear being killed in their home country. Others are longtime residents who may be eligible to stay under other criteria, or whose applications for permanent residency were lost or mishandled, the lawyers say.
Based on the amount budgeted for this fiscal year, U.S. taxpayers will pay $141 a night -- the equivalent of a decent hotel room -- for each immigrant detained, even though paroling them on ankle monitors -- at a budgeted average daily cost of $13 -- has an almost perfect compliance rate, according to ICE's own stats.
A system that housed 6,785 immigrants in 1994 now holds nearly five times that amount in 260 facilities across the country, most under contract with local governments or private companies. For this fiscal year, ICE has enough money budgeted for 33,400 people on any given night.
Immigration violations are considered civil, something akin to a moving violation in a car, so the government can imprison immigrants without many of the rights criminals receive: No court-appointed attorney for indigent defendants, no standard habeas corpus, no protection from double jeopardy, no guarantee of a speedy trial.
Okay, so where do you stand on human trafficking? Particularly children who are trafficked into the US as slave labor or, much more common, child prostitution and child porn?Is that the fault of the child, or the legal USC who brought them in? Should the child be deported, or become a ward of the state hopefully to be adopted to a USC to be raised and groomed into a productive member of society? And if there is nothing to say where the child is from because there is no paperwork except a bill of sale, what do you propose we do with those stateless children?
What about children who are adopted internationally but the adoption agency was crooked and pocketed the money, giving parents forged paperwork instead? Neither child nor pet have done anything wrong. Should hey be separated and the child sent back? Or should amnesty be granted, paperwork filed again, but this time with the RIGHT agency under the proper guidelines) and the child be allowed to stay with the parents who have chosen to include that child in their lives?
What about the child who was adopted 60 years ago and Immigration told the parents 'Great, you're done, have a nice life' and 60 years later realize they forgot a piece of paper needed to be filled out and deport that 60 year old for their mistake? Do you think there should be some kind of statute of limitations on clerical error or that the person should be allowed to file paperwork to correct the mistake before they are deported?
No, I'm not advocating for open borders. I never said that. Want to know wht i relly think, as a former undocumented and as a US citizen? Here's my solution:
1. Refine the definition of 'illegal'. Illegal should mean those who hopped the border to do drugs and shot a cop on the way, an anything else criminal. No amnesty no matter how long ago the incident occurred. 'Illegal' should NOT mean those who came here legally but ICE took 16 years to process their applications. 'Illegal' should not mean those for whom ICE lost paperwork a decade after the fact. 'Illegal' should NOT mean those who were trafficked in as children, either through international adoption by crooked adoption agencies, by legal American citizen pedophiles for child sex, by their illegal parents, or are refugees. Yes, I am advocating amnesty--for anyone under 18 or who was under 18 at the time the offence was committed.
2. Close the borders. Use the returning troops from the war to secure our northern and southern borders if necessary. Send out advance notice to the world a year in advance that we will be closing our borders. This will give everyone who wants to immigrate to the US time to get their applications in prior to the closure date. Stress to the world that we are NOT closing our borders forever, we are NOT going to become isolationists; we just need to get caught up on the paperwork backlog. Keep the borders closed for 2 years or until ICE catches up.
3. Use the time the borders are closed to catch up on the enormous backlog of applications waiting to be processed. In 2010, ICE was just getting to applications filed by Mexicans in 1994, China in 2001.
4. For those already in detention: prioritize the cases. Deport the truly 'illegal' first (see above definitions) then address cases for minor children, elderly/infirm, and terminally ill. Don't make those children wait for years in detention, it's inhumane. Offer them basic English language and civics classes while they are in detention so they will learn about our country; instead of penalizing them for their ignorance, offer them a chance to learn.
5. If you have a case of someone who came here legally but ICE has not gotten to their paperwork and time expired (undocumented), release them on electronic monitoring once they have not been deemed a flight risk. This will ease the overcrowding in deportation camps and make room for more of the truly illegal, higher-priority cases--ICE's own stats say electronic monitoring has a 98% compliance rate--98&% of people released on electronic monitoring do show up in court for their immigration hearing. A 2009 Associated Press article said an examination of ICE records showed that ICE currently asks Congress for $1.7 billion to detain 33,000 people per year ($141 per night) and 18,000 of those people were simply undocumented and had not committed any crimes. Do the math:
18,0000 people x $141 per night x 365 day a year=$926,370,000
Releasing those 18,000 undocumented, non-flight-risk elderly, terminally ill, and minor children on electronic monitoring would free up $926 million. That should be enough to hire more pencil pushers to get caught up on the backlogged paperwork and detain and deport more of the truly illegal in the 2 yr deadline above. Also add in the funds from the 'seized civil assets' the government takes from those who are detained and deported as illegal, that's a lot of money, definitely enough to get caught up on he paperwork backlog.
6. Improve conditions for those in detention. I'm not saying they should have bingo night and TVs in every cell. I'm talking about adequate food; no meals with maggots, please give us eating utensils, and please give us clean underclothes and jumpsuits; NO ONE should have to wear underclothes still crusted by another woman’s period. And adequate medical care; if someone is having a seizure don't tell them to fill out form for an aspirin. If someone is on medication for something please allow them to continue taking those meds. Look up 'Victoria Arellano' for an example.
7. Allow non-violent ICE detainees out on a day-labor program. You do it for nonviolent offenders, why should we be treated any different? Sitting for 24 hours a day in a deportation camp does no one any good whatsoever. The detainee has nothing to do but go crazy; let us out to work while we wait for the judge to throw us out.
8. If the judge says they have proved they are a citizen RELEASE THEM. There is absolutely no excuse for keeping someone after a judge has ruled they should be released. Look up George Ibarra.
9. If someone says they have proof that they are indeed a US citizen or a diplomat from another country, INVESTIGATE. The law of the US is 'innocent until proven guilty', not 'guilty until YOU prove you're innocent.' Don't automatically assume that because the person looks Latino or foreign that they MUST be here illegally. Look at Hans Keil of American Samoa.
10. ACCOUNTABILTY. If one of us dies in ICE custody our legal US citizen relatives have a right to know if we have died! It won't matter to us, we're dead, but our relatives outside the deportation camp have a right to know we have died so they can claim our bodies and take care of us according to our respective beliefs. Even if you believe the 'illegal' doesn't have a right to Last Rites, not everyone believes so and if there are relatives willing to claim the body, they as legal citizens have the right to do so.
This should have included Obama's uncle, based on their own criteria. Any bets that he was not one of the one's rounded up!!!!!!!!!!!
2012 will be the second tidal wave of change to sweep into Washington DC, Americans demand real change from all politicians currently running for office at all levels of government regardless of party. Demand that our borders will be secured once and for all and the enforcement of our laws. All illegal immigrants should have all reasons to be here removed, no jobs, no benefits what so ever, they will self deport, Mississippi proved this.
lol, you guys are complaining because not enough is done, yet where the F were you prior to President Obama? Don't see any of the bloggs nor others... Again, show me the money first then we talk about how to spend it on the border patrol. In addition, I don't see the increase of Bush's border budget help deter illigal immigration.
As for those that use specific murder cases such as Recendez Ramirez or others. It simply showed that back in 1999 and earlier that our system were incapable of cooridinating between systems. Now we have a Homeland Security system, proposed and built by Bush Jr with improved coordination, yet you are gripping, and bring up criminals caught over 10 years ago to make your case to justify more spending????
Sorry, don't buy into the emotional BS that some viners are attempting to use to stir things up. The only time that people bring this up is when election is nearing!!!! When the election is over did any of the Republican President do anything about the border securities???? NOPE!!!! Why don't any of the accusers look up the records on deportations and prosecutions???? You guys don't have the guts. The only thing you can do is to scare people with old cases and WHAT IF.
Murder will always happen, because we are people. We can not prevent it. There are more Americans murdering Americans. So you need to figure out what is your priority and what is the most effective method of reducing loss of our precious resources. If it is about a focused round up, then I am all for it. I am not into spending my hard $ toward rounding up every Illegal Immigrants. If that is the case, then we should put every freaking person who owes on parking ticket or violated law in jail. I believe over 95% of the felons violated minor infractions previously... So why don't you encourage the govt to lock up everyone who has violated the law so that you can prevent murders???
Bunch of idiots who want to balance the budget on someone else's nickle!
@Amanda-2017567
"as a former undocumented and as a US citizen"
Ok. NOW everything you said becomes clean. Now we know the rest of the story.
Sooner or later they all sip up and the truth comes out.
NO ONE should be branded as a 'criminal' merely because they hold a job.
Earning a living by the sweat of our brow is what God commanded us to do, going all the way back to Adam.
Acknowledging that ALL men are created equal, and are endowed by their Creator with UNALIENABLE rights to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness (which means nothing if it does not mean the rights to work for a living, be paid for one's labor, and spend those proceeds) are FIRST PRINCIPLES upon which this nation was founded.
Allowing EMPLOYERS (not the GOVERNMENT) to choose whom they wish to hire is a cornerstone of Free Market ecomonics. Centralized planning does NOT work.
Those of you who don't like the guiding principles that our nation was founded upon are the ones who should leave. I'm happy to keep the unauthorized immigrants who desire nothing more than to work hard, pay taxes, and raise families.
As the Bible tells us over and over and over and over and over:
"When an alien resides with you in your land, you shall not oppress the alien. The alien who resides with you shall be to you as the citizen among you; you shall love the alien as yourself." Leviticus 19:33-34 (and echoed in a hundred other passages)
What should be obvious is that NONE of the xenopathic haters is able to provide a legitimate justification for the massive expense of cracking down on people who do the same things that the rest of us do every day. We work, we send our children to school, we attend church, we pay taxes. Those things are not crimes when WE do them, and therefore, they should not be crimes when someone ELSE does them, even if those others have dark skin or speak with a funny accent.
We are spending money hand over fist to protect immigration rules that practically NONE of its defenders are even familiar with, and decimating our economy by attacking worker and employer alike, instead of adopting rules that are in our own national self interest.
Since 1986, when the current rules were adopted, American businesses have hired, trained, and productively put to work a half a million untrained, foreign born workers each and every year for the past 25 years. The QUOTA established in 1986 is 5,000 per year. How STUPID is that?!!!
And you wonder why jobs are being outsourced to China? Or why our economy COLLAPSED once the xenophobic haters took control of our national policies?
Commonsense....
I disagree...those who don't check in at the border because they are involved in drug trafficking or human trafficking are most certainly criminals. The low-life illegals who monitor and run the safe houses where cartels hold unsuspecting illegals for ransom or run brothels filled with captive women who thought they would be smuggled in to become housekeepers or factory workers. Those who don't check into the border because well Immigration would reject them for being thieves, drug dealers, smugglers or rapist.
Fair enough but those "rights" are extended to American Citizens and those guests of this country that have had the reciprocal respect to check in at the border....we should not be bound to a one sided respect for our brothers and sisters of other nations who have no respect for the immigration rules of this country. Quite honestly, for American Citizens and the registered guests in America...that promise of unalienable rights actually end at our border....Keeping in mind that this Nation was also founded on the importance of respecting the law of the land...which eventually included a rather inclusive immigration law. Unfortunate, as the uneducated masses began to import their disregard for civil laws from their home countries our laws had to become more stringent to protect those who have the integrity to immigrate legally.
See that is the premise that has plagued our nation with illegal imigrants and fed the blackmarket idustries with. They leave their own homelands instead of standing and fighting for a better life.
I have no inention of fleeing my homeland because criminals and those with low social conscious insist upon encroching on my culture. I will instead stand a speak out about the abuse of resources and society. I will speak out about the underworld activity that is imposing upon my country and our laws.
Go right ahead...I would be happy to see ICE pay you a visit, detain/deport your indentured servants and impose a heafty fine upon you....perhaps they should also hold you personally responsible for the disposition of any of your servants offspring who enjoy the gift of US citizenship. Perhaps you could pay the living expenses of the minors after their parents have been sent home.
And if you choose to balance that with our laws and the promise of our land I am sure that you pay these indentured aliens as you would pay a citizen and you offer them the dignity of a pension, medical support and opportunity to educate themselves in the culture of America....I am certain that you would extend the gift of sponsorship to receive a green card and ultimately ligitimate citizenship. Are you claiming to live by this sort of example or are you just looking for cheap disposable labor?
So I take it that you have a problem with the raids that just swept up folks with criminal records? WE should welcome those with larceny in their hearts with open arms....personally I detest the criminal citizens that walk among us I don't think we should be welcoming of those from far and wide to live among us.
I figured that jobs were being outsorced to third world countries where hungry people would work for pittance and under systems of government that had no real labor laws because the Unions and labor forces in our country got too greedy.....I didn't realize that the progressives were fostering the age old system of indentured servitude so they could pocket the excess that would go to SS or medicare, medicaid and well programs that support the needs of the poor in our country. So it isn't really the xenophobic that caused the problem rather the Progressive who wish to divide our nation between the haves and have nots feigning concern for those they wish to dominate because they believe their servants too uneducated and dependent upon their mercy to stand up and seek full membership in America.
Emma Lazarus Poem on the statue of liberty plaque. This is the basis of how we became the greatest Nation on Earth. Since it no longer applies should we just re-cycle her to pay down the National debt?
It is odd to me that the most Conservative of us (holding Christian Values) are honestly the most un Christian of all. The pursuit of Wealth is not the main objective of a True American.
Freedom and liberty for all mankind is. Or at least it used to be. So since it does not apply anymore lets just toss aside our countries founding beliefs. And do door to door sweeps and deport anyone without proper Birth certificates and Social security number. Or at least a state issued ID.
The New Colossus
Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
joeyfromcali....Did you not realize that the immigrants entering through Ellis Island actually had to sign their name into a log when they came here. Their are volumes of books that hold the names of people wishing to enter the United States and had no issue with registering their names. As a matter of fact there was a pride for those enter through Ellis Island to come to America and seek legal citizenship.
It's a good start. It should be done weekly.
For the mathematically challenged, at that weekly rate it would require 74 Years for deport 11.9 million illegals, 236 years to emigrate 38 million naturalized citizens, 310 years to emigrate people currently on SS, 372 years to emigrate those uninsured for health care.
For good results it would take 650 years to emigrate those too intelligent to stay or in equal measure 650 years for those not quite so intelligence.
This leaves us 992 years to emigrate working citizens along with their jobs.
The effect of these deportation and emigrations would done now would reduce population by 99%,
And for good measure it take only 18.9 years to return the colonial / revolutionary population back to Europe.
The 1% is just about the same as the population revolutionary times.
The possibility of just the rich people living in America is amusing, tri-corner hats and all, and don’t forget the slaves to do the hard work.
One problem: The revolution over the tea tax, has one interesting facet, the East India Tea Company (Inc., LLC) collected that tax, but it was less than the 3% that merchants pay to credit card companies to process your transactions. The coincident; continues the East India Tea Company, subtracted its expenses before paying the balance to the British Government, to pay for the war fleet. Your credit card company, does not even, ship a single tea leaf, but this would be fairer if your credit card company paid a fair share of the protection fleet in the Middle East, unstable to the point of banking on it, that would be speculation.
Note: Exported citizens many cause some settling in the cargo containers. The economy may improve to offset the need to reduce population so drastically, some new Born's will occur and over the long time spans indicated some losses are expected. Expert advisers suggest that the Economy needs to grow soon, or we will have to send the unemployed to refresh their college education, and retrain after 4 years unemployed.
The article stated that this was the most ever....I beg to differ....google "Operation Wetback" and see what the Eisenhower administration did with illegal aliens....
Blacksheep,
You might also mention the large number of US CITIZENS who were beaten, arrested and deported to Mexico without papers. This resulted in several years adjudication and rentry for the citizens. NO apologies were ever given.
Oddly, in So California and Texas during WWII, Mexicans were encouraged to cross the border and perform agricultural work by the US government. They were even promised Social Security based on their wages. This continued after the war, as few veterans wanted to return to ranch or field work. However, the Cold War, McCarthy scare ultimately changed policy-makers minds. The Mexicans were no longer welcomed by the government, but still needed by the farmers and ranchers. And the promised benefits? Were never paid.
Get rid of Mexicans! Then we have no national debt, no unemployment and a good economy.
Oh, wait...
They should be "sweeping" daily.
NVArt, some of your "facts" are so skewed. You might want to take a look at what Bush did and what Obama inherited. Vacation? Really? When Bush was gone for weeks at a time? Are you serious?
And the Republican governor of Hawaii has said Obama's birth certificate is legitimate and so has Boehner.
Stop spreading rumors. If the GOP only has rumors to base its claim to the White House they'll lose.
Oh -- and have you PERSONALLY seen his financial aid application? If not, stop repeating what you don't know.
I see they have reclassified the "illegal aliens" as "unauthorized immigrants". Change the wording if you will, but they are STILL BREAKING THE LAW BY EVEN BEING HERE!
Yes, I noticed the PC immigrants from illegal aliens. Interesting how the spin changes. These problems can be "fixed," but it would take sweeping measures to make it happen. Right now, it's a state-by-state menu of choices, none of which is being backed by the federal government. As a matter of fact, the federal government has been putting up roadblocks to avoid fulfilling its obligation.
The federal governments FIRST obligation should be to the people of the United States. Somewhere along the way, the feds have lost their direction. They need to be set straight.
I have no problem with legal immigration. My ancestors came to this country as legally as they could. (Actually, many of them came before it was even considered a country. Nevertheless, it was as legal as the times declared.) It wasn't an easy trip; many great aunts and uncles died during their travels. However, a great many came through Ellis Island--legally. And they did jobs that no one else would do. My great, great grandmother worked like a slave on her arrival in New York (from Ireland). She and her father worked to pay for the tickets to bring over the rest of our family. (Her youngest brother died on the boat on the way over.) They starved to save enough money to send for all the rest. And so they did. They didn't sneak into the USA. They came as all the legal immigrants of their time did.
Either the US needs to change the way it allows immigration; or it needs to enforce the current laws regarding immigration policy. We can't have it both ways. Being PC to avoid the truth does a disservice to all citizens of this country. I think a solution can be worked out, but it must not come at the expense of the American people.
Whoa. There's 'illegal' and there's undocumented. There IS a difference.
I was adopted as an infant internationally, legally, but my parents never told me before they passed away in a car accident. 18 years after my adoption, USCIS does a routine record check and finds they lost my adoption paper--they have the legal birth certificate my parents got after my adoption (you can't get a legal one without an adoption decree, so having the BC was proof I was legally adopted) they have the application Dad and Mom filed in order to adopt me from the orphanage for 'stateless' children, they have receipts for the $10k my parents paid to bring me here, they are just missing the adoption decree itself. One sheet of paper.
So they come to me saying 'papers, please.' I had no idea what they were talking about, having never been told I was adopted. So they decided that made me undocumented and sent me to a deportation camp. Now, since I was stateless (abandoned infant with no documents showing where she was born, who she was born to or even when she was born) there was nowhere they could deport me. So even though I had a legal BC, DL and SS card, they still considered me 'illegal' since your BC, DL, and SS card are not proof of citizenship. I sat in deportation for three years writing letters to every courthouse in three states trying to figure out where that adoption record had been filed (Dad was in the military and we moved around a lot.)
There's your difference between illegal and undocumented. The illegal have committed a crime and deserve to be deported, the undocumented came here legally but are missing a piece of paper, and many, like me, who are stuck--can't go forward, can't go back because there is no 'back'.
For those who approve of the AL/AZ laws, that's the problem with the law--your BC, DL, and SS card is not proof of citizenship, so if the cops were to stop you and ask you to prove you're here legally, how would you prove it?
Sorry
Amanda. don't believe you.
cmach:
That's fine, that's your right. That's what's so great about this country. You can choose what you believe--or not.
"Believe none of what you hear, and only half of what you see." Benjamin Franklin.
My point exactly.
So go and do some research. Look at the stats for wrongful detention of US citizens. Look at what Amnesty International has to say on the subject of American deportation camps. Look up the word 'stateless' and see what that means--and look at the controversy and the UN resolutions about reducing statelessness. Instead of attacking me personally, prove that what I'm saying is wrong.
I'm not asking you to beleve me; I'm simply trying to point out that there is no one-size-fits-all solution to the immigration problem.
Amanda, you should take the time to read the laws that you are peaking out about. Here is a list of document that would be accepted as proof of citizenship or proof that you are in the country legally under Arizona's SB1070:
1. An Arizona driver license issued after 1996 or an Arizona nonoperating identification license.
2. A birth certificate or delayed birth certificate issued in any state, territory or possession of the United States.
3. A United States certificate of birth abroad.
4. A United States passport.
5. A foreign passport with a United States visa.
6. An I-94 form with a photograph.
7. A United States citizenship and immigration services employment authorization document or refugee travel document.
8. A United States certificate of naturalization.
9. A United States certificate of citizenship.
10. A tribal certificate of Indian blood.
11. A tribal or bureau of Indian affairs affidavit of birth.
http://www.azleg.gov//FormatDocument.asp?inDoc=/legtext/49leg/2r/bills/hb2162c.htm&Session_ID=93
Jongone:
I saw that. And it doesn't erase the fact that even if you have one of the above the authorities can ignore that at will. There was a Navajo tribal member who gave his tribal identification as proof at a traffic stop for a broken tail light. The officer who stopped him declared it a forgery and took him in anyway and he spent three days until the guy's wife and tribal elder showed up with additional documents.
I could present my naturalization certificate as proof of authorization if stopped. However, if the cop was having a bad day or simply didn't like me, he could tear that up and let the pieces blow away (it's a green 8 1/2 x11 sheet of paper with my passport photo stapled to it and the Oath of Allegiance printed on it) and I could then be taken in as an illegal because I didn't have the paper. I could try telling them at the station that I had it but the officer tore it up and threw it away, but the word of an illegal is not taken over the word of a citizen. Drivers licenses can be faked, and not everyone has a birth certificate.
ICE told me that my birth certificate is not proof of citizenship or identification for who I am. AZ tells me it is. Who am I supposed to believe?
Do you drive around with your birth certificate in your pocket? An I-9 form?
Now, a copy of that certificate costs $600 and will take 3 years to obtain. If your SS card or DL cost you $600 to get another one, and three years to get and in the meantime you couldn't drive or work, would you be carrying it around and offer it up to any Tom, Dick and Harry who asked for it? And yes, I know you're thinking you'd only show it to an LEO. What if that was a police impersonator? Would you be able to tell the difference? If that police impersonator was an illegal they could take your documentation, run off with it, make copies and give it away like candy. Next thing you know you'd be up to your eyeballs in identity theft cases, your employer might be notified that your SS number doesn't match through EVerify and you can't get a job and then you'd be under suspicion of being an illegal.
Amanda, you claimed that “For those who approve of the AL/AZ laws, that's the problem with the law--your BC, DL, and SS card is not proof of citizenship.” of those only a SS card would not be accepted under SB1070. ICE may have different standards. Since Arizona is not able to, nor was seeking to, deport ANYBODY it would probably be best if you stayed within the ICE standards.
It doesn't matter how thet try to sugercoat it if they're undocumented they are illegal aliens period.
The propagandists get upset over the use of accurate terms like "unauthorized immigrant", instead of the spiteful, hateful, and grammatically incorrect and emotionally charged terms like "illegal alien".
An immigrant is a person who comes to a country from another country. If you are saying these people are not immigrants, you are saying they were born here. The government authorizes some immigrants. The rest are unauthorized. If you are saying these 9immigrants are not unauthorized, you are saying the government HAS authorized them.
On the other hand, the term "alien" merely means "not from here". It's a word of exclusion. In popular culture, the word "alien" is usually used to describe a non-human creature from outer space. "Aliens" are the enemy. "Aliens" are monsters. As often as not, "aliens" are creatures we must kill because they will kill us if we don't.
And it's just gramatically incorrect to describe a person as "illegal". Actions can be illegal. People cannot. Labeling a person as "illegal" emphatically and inherently implies that the person has no 'egal right to exist, no legal right to be alive, no legal right to breath, and that the person should never have been born.
commonsense - You are spinning nonsense again. Stop twirling it just makes you dizzy.
According to the US DHS:
Immigrant - an alien admitted to the United States as a lawful permanent resident.
Alien - Any person not a citizen or national of the United States.
An "undocumented immigrant" is the politically correct term for an alien illegally residing in the United States (aka "illegal alien"). Note that you cannot be an "immigrant" unless you are here lawfully.
@commonsense....
You really put the "D" in dumbazz. They are in this country illegally and they are immigrants.
THUS Illegal immigrants. Or as I like to put it, "They are ticks on the underside belly of America".
Applaud the effort....now keep going.
Txmom, but, but, but. What about your "the Obama Admin. does nothing about illigals? Hmmmmmmm??? Seems to me his admin is doing quite a bit. A hell of a lot more that the previous admin.
If Obama was serious about immigration he wouldn't waste federal resources having the justice dept sue every state that tries to enforce current federal immigration laws. Why have law on the books if you sue to stop people from enforcing them?
averon1,
Because the states are trying to usurp the power of the federal government and the Constitution.
The Constitution gives the power of enforcement of federal law, including citizenship, to the Execution Branch, the President. The Constitution does not give this power to the Governor of Arizona, or to the Sheriff of Maricopa County.
What if Arizona decides, as happened during the Great Depression, that lawful US citizens who were not native to Arizona were undesirable. Could Arizona then arrest or "deport" them as well?
You see only an argument about immigration, legal or otherwise, and seek a simple solution. But there is no simple solution in a democracy. Business is an autocratic system, one person makes all the decisions. Goverment, especially democratic goverment, is a bit more complicated.
Bill - Are you in 5th grade drama club?
States do not "enforce U.S. citizenship"
"What if Arizona decides, as happened during the Great Depression, that lawful US citizens who were not native to Arizona were undesirable. Could Arizona then arrest or "deport" them as well?"
Um, No. Arizona is part of the U.S., Mexico is not, can you comprehend that?
"But there is no simple solution in a democracy."
Actually there is, that is why borders and border security have existed as long as nations have. When power-hungry politicians behave so despicably that they know their only hope of survival is importing votes of foreigners the system breaks down and the host nation soon follows.
"Goverment, especially democratic goverment, is a bit more complicated"
Nope. It's the law, not too difficult to understand for most.
Only 11,504,000 to go
Bill - they passed those laws not to ursurp the power of the federal government but to do the job that the federal government was refusing to do.
Verno...you won't even let me give Obama and ICE their due...which I did by applauding this effort and encouraging them to keep going.
So if you want more here it is.....Thank you Obama for finally hearing the American people by rounding up criminals who cross our borders in an attempt to live their criminal existence off the good folks of America. Thank you for not only taking care of problems with those who cross our borders form South and Central America and Mexico and cuba but also from Asia and Africa. You go guy....keep rounding them up and expelling them from our shores. Woohoo Obama....perhaps now you can give Auntie Odinga and your drunk uncle, who both willingly and fraudulently immigrated to America, a plane ticket back to their homeland. Perhaps too BO you could stop making those American's of latin descent into criminals before you know all of the facts....perhaps next time an American of Mexican herritage is under investigation you will wait before passing judgement that they are automaticall racist. So thanks BO for, even if it is a re-election stunt, doing your job. (air fist bump)
Neither Arizona nor Alabama have anything in their unConstitutional 'laws' that enforce fedral law. Neither state has ANY provision that protects the border. Neither state regulates, or even attempts to regulate immigration. They just have mean-spirited, unConstitutional laws that make it difficult for brown people to go about their daily lives, without haveing ANY effect on immigration whatsover.
In Arizona, they passed the 'law' so that the Corrections Corporation of America (CCA) would have lots and lots of people to bill the federal government for. CCA already had a contract in place to build, staff, operate, and maintain prisons for all immigration rule violators. No bids necessary, no competition allowed. Jan Brewers top advisors were paid by CCA to make sure the new 'law' passed so that people HAD to be arrested based on nothing more than suspicion, and those people HAD to be incarcerated and held in a CCA-built, -owned, -operated, -maintained, and -staffed jail (concentration camp) at taxpayer expense until the person either a) proved their own innocence, or b) was deported.
Both state 'laws' were written by a man who lives in NEITHER state, but was working for an organization founded by Nazi-admirer John Tanton, who wants the United States to adopt the same "genetics" policies used by Adolph Hitler.
Oh yeah, so much for the liberals not wanting to do anything about illegal immigration! Obama has deported way more people that Bush.
sophie, I would like to know where you are getting your information from. Please enlighten us. Tell us where we can go to look up and verify your comment.
Sophie here are facts that show that is not true

How is it Bush gets credited with 9 years? If he gets credit for 09 doesnt that mean Clinton should get 2001? And also that would mean Obama is on pace to do more.
If you read my post it says "Fiscal Year numbers adjusted for Administration". Mr Bush was President for 3/4 of fiscal year 2001 and 1/4 of fiscal year 2009. Mr Obama for 3/4 of fiscal year 2009.
2001 Removals = 189,026

It is an election year. He will go back to suing states after that.
NH_Shellback-
Since deportations by the government fall under "Removals" in your list, your data actually shows that deportations per year under Obama are greater than under Bush.
GET THE OTHER 11 MILLION OUT
I'm sure if the taxpayers were willing to pay for the hundreds of thousands (or millions) of agents, detention facility personnel, jails, legal representatives, courts etc then the government certainly would be willing to round them all up.
Given limited resources however, focussing on criminals, dangerous individuals and repeat border crossers makes the most sense. Given, the simple presence of an undocumented immigrant makes them illegal and therefore law breakers. However, it is sort of like the decision making that goes on in law enforcement all the time: Do they spend time and resources hunting down shop lifters or murderers and drug traffickers?
Anita.. I understand your logic but when they turn loose someone already in custody it makes no sense to me.
Sadly, its time to go to the fingerprint identification...
Are you ready to pick vegetables in Georgia?
More like 20 million.
Only 3% of illegals are pickers the other 97% do jobs Americans still do all across the country. I would be more than willing to subsidize travel costs for pickers to come and go between seasons.
When I.C.E raids a meat processing plant several 100s of Americans are inline the next day waiting to put in apps. If its on a Friday they will camp out during the weekend to keep their spot.
Like 30-37% of dishwashers are illegals, my cousins restaurant took over 100 apps for 4 dishwasher jobs. Two months before the grand opening he had dozens of people knocking on his door to give him their resumes.
You need a resume to be a dishwasher, damn!
Anita - If Congress would vote on and pass mandatory E-Verify ( the Legal Workforce Act H.R.2885) most illegals would self deport themselves when they were denied jobs and a source of income.
Undocumented does not equal illegal.
Illegal is the person who hopped the border, shot a cop, dealt drugs and stuff along the way.
Undocumenteds are like me--I have no original birth certificate because I was abandoned as an infant, and didn't have parents or a birthday until my parents adopted me (the official term is 'stateless').They didn't tell me I was adopted before they died suddenly in a car crash, so when ICE lost my adoption paper 18 years after my adoption I had no idea what they were talking about and so I was deemed 'illegal'. I had a legal BC, DL and SS card, but those aren't proof of citizenship.
I was NOT illegal. I had never done anything wrong. Never been arrested. USCIS losing my adoption paper wasn't my fault, nor was it my fault that Dad and Mom didn't tell me I was adopted before they died.
Again? I don't believe you either.
Do some research on the term 'stateless'. Look at both sides of the immigration issue insted of the knee-jerk 'get them all out.' There is no 'one size fits all' solution to the immigration problem.
"I don't believe you" is weak, why don't you believe her? What is the reasoning? Simply, because it doesn't comply with your hatred of the current administration? Anyone but Obama, right?
Baloney.
First of all, those workers arrested by the government ARE American. They live here, they work here, they pay taxes here. Arresting them is stupid.
Second, assuming that hundreds of OTHER Americans show up the next day looking for work (an unsubstantiated claim), where were those guys the day before? On welfare? Getting drunk at the bar? Why weren't they looking for jobs then?
Third, when ICE raids American workplaces, jobs get shipped overseas.
Fourth, ridding the country of productive, foreign-born WORKERS costs native-born Americans their jobs, too.
You can grow the economy or you can shrink it. Asking the federal government to raid factories and arrest workers will SHRINK the eonomy, not make it grow.
Employers are better able to determine who the BEST workers are than the federal government, any day.
I don't have a problem with this whatsoever , undocumented aliens should be deported , HOWEVER .. I don't agree with separating innocent families of Immigrants that are NOT criminals or fugitives , and who's children go to school to learn the English language and obey all laws. If it was up to me i would let them stay but pay a hefty fine and make them learn the English language. If you come to this country and start committing crimes then you should be automatically deported and banned from ever applying to return , Again this is just my point of view, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
When a LEGAL immigrant is given the privilege to reside in this country, they know that certain crimes will get that privilege taken away and they will be deported. Every "undocumented" or illegal alien, KNOWS they are committing a crime by being here without the approval of the U.S. Government. There should be no difference shown between one who was approved for residency here and one who crawled under a fence or overstayed their VISA when a crime is committed.
I agree with you Jake, the family should not be broken up. They should take the anchor babies with them back to their own country.
Hence the popularity of "anchor babies". The illegals use them as human shields and welfare tickets.
why don't you people understand that none of them is innocent ? they all committed a crime as soon as they snuck into the country illegally !!
I agree, don't separate them, send them all back. They are all criminals if they are here illegally!
Okay try this.
My coworker's mother was deported two days before Christmas this year. She was adopted as an orphaned infant in 1945, at the close of World War II, from Germany. Immigration at the time made a mistake and never told her parents that citizenship wasn';t automatic with adoption. She camehere legally, was adopted legally, lived her life here legally, never drew welfare never got in trouble with the law, married an American citizen, passed eVerify at work.
60+ years later, in early december of last year, ICE called her up and said they were doing a routine record search and found that citizenship had never ben filed for her. She asked them what she needed to do and they said she was going to be deported at Christmas.
She was given no opportunity to correct the paperwork mistake. Her 90 year old parents made the trip to the local immigration office to intercede for her, confirming that they were never told they had to file for citizenship and begging for the chance to correct the mistake. They were denied and in mid-December her house, car, bank account were seized as civil asset forfeiture, and she and her son (my coworker) were left homeless for the last week before her deportation. She was deported to Germany two days before Christmas without having seen a lawyer or judge or had a trial.
A church in Germany took her in, gave her a place to stay in the convent and loaned her enough money to set up a bank account, and she called my coworker, who immediately dumped the contents of his college savings into her new German account so she would have something to live on. She's 66, in a country where she has no memory of having been, does not speak the language. She will have to stay there for 10 years before my coworker can apply for her to come back; he hopes she'll be back in time for them to celebrate her eightieth birthday.
There isn't. A US serviceman was recently deported to Mexico even after he became a naturalized citizen during his service in Iraq. He was smoking medical marijuana as treatment for his PTSD and they ignored the fact that he had a prescription, accused him of doing drugs, and deported him.
There doesn't even have to be a crime committed. You can be held in deportation if USCIS loses a piece of paper, if some poorly-trained oficial decides your documents are fake even if they are real, if you have a mental disability and claim you're from Jamaica when your birth certificate says you were born in Brooklyn.
Gee... full of stories.
cmach:
Having been in trouble with ICE for reasons that were not my fault, I started keeping an eye on other stories, wondering if I was alone, if my being detained for simply not having a piece of paper was an anomaly among millions, or if there were others like me. Yes, there are others like me:
Rennison Castillo, a Washington state man who was born in Belize but took his oath of citizenship while serving in the U.S. Army in 1998, spent seven months in an ICE prison in 2006. Castillo, 33, of Lakewood, came to the United States at age 6 and later became a permanent lawful resident. He was sworn in as a citizen during his seven-year stint in the Army, which ended with his honorable discharge in 2003.
Lack of proper training of immigration inspectors resulted in their mistaken conclusion that Sharon McKnight’s passport was fraudulent. McKnight spent eight days in Jamaica before returning to New York. While there, her luggage, containing all her money, was stolen. Airport workers contributed money so she could reach family members. Once there, her mother flew to Jamaica from New York to take her case to the US consulate in Kingston. With the help of Rep. Michael Forbes (D-NY), consulate officials determined that the passport and birth certificate, which immigration officials had declared fraudulent, were in fact real, and established McKnight’s US citizenship.
When Angela Boneva, a 34 year old went to renew her passport in 2003, the State Department told her she was no longer a citizen. Boneva's father was born in Indiana, and the US consulate in Bulgaria gave her U.S. citizenship while she was growing up in Bulgaria in 1981.The State Department said that an employee at the consulate broke a rule that required her father to have lived in the U.S. for 10 years before she was born, the Tribune reported. Her father had only lived in the U.S. for six years before moving to Bulgaria.
The son of a decorated Vietnam veteran, Hector Veloz is a U.S. citizen, but in 2007 immigration officials mistook him for an illegal immigrant and locked him in an Arizona prison for 13 months. Veloz had to prove his citizenship from behind bars. An aunt helped him track down his father's birth certificate and his own, his parents' marriage certificate, his father's school, military and Social Security records. After nine months, a judge determined that he was a citizen, but immigration authorities appealed the decision. He was detained for five more months before he found legal help and a judge ordered his case dropped.
Hans Joachim Keil was arrested in Dutton in September and accused of being an illegal alien. He was an official representative of Samoa, a current Member of Parliament and a prominent businessman with many family links. He had diverted to Missouri on the way home from trade talks in Brussels where he represented Samoa. “They were going to lock me up for five years plus five years. Five years for impersonating a US citizen and five years for using an illegal US passport. On the day of my arrest when I brought to their attention, that I served in the US military … they threw that out the window and said that I’m an illegal alien and I have no right to be in the United States. They knew I was a Samoan diplomat but they had no regard for my diplomatic passport.”
More than two months after the earthquake that devastated Haiti, at least 30 survivors who were waved onto planes by Marines in the chaotic aftermath are prisoners of the United States immigration system, locked up since their arrival in detention centers in Florida. In Haiti, some were pulled from the rubble, their legal advocates say. Some lost parents, siblings or children. Many were seeking food, safety or medical care at the Port-au-Prince airport when terrifying aftershocks prompted hasty evacuations by military transports, with no time for immigration processing. None have criminal histories. But when they landed in the United States without visas, they were taken into custody by immigration authorities and held for deportation, even though deportations to Haiti have been suspended indefinitely since the earthquake. Legal advocates who stumbled on the survivors in February at the Broward County Transitional Center, a privately operated immigration jail in Pompano Beach, Fla., have tried for weeks to persuade government officials to release them to citizen relatives who are eager to take them in, letters and affidavits show.
The assumption that every person ICE picks up MUST be illegal is like saying that every single person the police pick up MUST have broken the law. Many people are exonerated after due process. ICE's sytem is predicated on the premise that you are guilty until you prove you're innocent, and with the rush to deport, it's difficult for people who are behind bars to come up with proof that they are indeed here legally.
YOUR taxes are paying for those anchor babies to go to school to be taught in ANOTHER language on your dime. So if deported everyone goes. You wouldn't want to break up a family now would you?
Amanda - where are you writing these from?
What it all comes down to is money.
Homeland Security asks Congress for $141 per person per night for each immigrant detained. That comes out to $51,465 a year for each person.
Then a private for-profit prison says here, we'll house your immigrant detainees for $98 a night. That comes out to $35,770 a year.
DHS keeps that $15,695 per person per year. And in the meantime immigrants in privately run facilities are given food with maggots in it and are told there's no money in the budget to cook another meal. Eating utensils run out and we're told there's no money in the budget to buy more. Clothing assigned is still dirty and hasn't been washed (I was assigned underwear that still had blood from another woman's period in it because it wasn't washed before being given to me.) Physical and sexual abuse is rampant--you don't have the right to ask that a member of your own gender perfrom the strip searches and body cavity searches. Women are raped.
I'm not saying we shouldn't deport. I'm all in favor of deporting that Russian drug mule that was my neighbor on one side and who had sex with the guards in exchange for cigarettes and candy. But for me, who was just missing a piece of paper, and my neighbor on the other side, a woman who was trafficked in as a child sex slave so a legal citizen could make child porn, then was thrown out when she became pregnant and unappealing to the pedophile, there should be exceptions.
Good night!
Geee and yet another story... amanda. Good night....
I don't think deporting Anchor Babies is right, anyone born in U.S. soild is an American by brith right. Those illegals took the risk of having an anchor baby. So, if a family must split due to deportation let it happen. Knowing english is not a part of the constituion or any laws in the United States. So relax with learning english part.
Babies should leave with their parents. That's how I feel. When I was in the camp, my neighbor, a Rwandan, had been picked up as an illegal after being trafficked in at the age of 12 so a legal USC could make child porn. She got pregnant due to the child molestation and the pedophile threw her out, and she was picked up for being illegal. She gave birth in the deportation camp, and we both begged fior them to leave the baby girl with her mother--she knew if she went back to Rwanda with the baby she could be stoned by her countrymen (her village was raided and her parents killed; she and her borther were sold to separate slavers and she never saw him again) but even knowing that she would have rather taken her child with her.
ICE took the baby away a few weeks after she gave birth even though we tried to tell them the baby's father was a child molester and pedophile and would abuse the baby. The word of an illegal is not taken over the word of a USC so the baby was given into the care of a pedophile. My neighbor went into a severe depression, stopped eating, stopped going out into the yard with us, stopped doing anything, and the guards put her in solitary because they said she was displaying passive-aggressive resistance tactics. She twisted her prison jumpsuit into a rope and hung herself.
Such disgusting language. I'm surprised more of you aren't using the n-word to describe people.
All of you picking on innocent babies and children should have your mouths washed out with soap. I've never read such unChristian drivel in my life.
Babies born in the United States are citizens of the United States and always have been (with the former racist exceptions of children born to slaves and children born to self-governing Native American Indian tribes.
I'll take the hard-working immigrants and their children over the effete snobs who call others dirty names (like "illegal" human being, as though there could possibly be such a thing) and believe in hereditary rights instead of the good old-fashioned merit system any day of the week.
Good. Deport them ALL. Every LAST ONE.
They take many plane loads of illegals back to mexico city from mesa az airport every week @ the tax payers expense, Plain white jets, should have aero mexico on the tail !
captain... the sad thing is, most will be back next week to pick up their paycheck.
ICE has unlimited power to pack you on a plane in the middle of the night and ship you to another deportation camp across the country without notifying local authorities, lawyers, or relatives. They don't even have a real-time tracking system so they know who was sent where, thats why when someone gets moved it can be weeks or months before they are found again. And it's why families of people who die while in ICE custody sometimes aren't told their relative died.
If they pick up 3,100 every day except Christmas, 1,128,400 illegal aliens, all criminals for breaking U.S. law, will be deported EVERY 364 days. I wonder how many years of doing this it will take before all 11.9 million decide that it is better to go back to their own country? I am all for amnesty - you go back to your country voluntarily and we will let you fill out an application, pay the fees and wait in line - no questions asked. If you are caught here after the cut off date, you will be banned from returning to this country forever. I don't care if you have legal family here, I don't care if you were brought as a child and know no other country. This one isn't yours. Blame your parents.
NMEast - apparently you just don't care. Have you always been heartless or is this something new you're trying?
joemike404 must live in North Dakota or some such place, but certainly not in the Southwest.
I live in the Southwest and agree with Joemike... so i guess your point is moot? Too many heartless Americans 4-5 generations from now your offspring will look at your beliefs with contempt and disgust. Or they will be over nostalgic air heads, like those in the Southern States that believe the South will rise again.
Then let the border jumpers live with you and give them your job.Get them out and keep them out by any means needed up to and including deadly force.
And for those children, like me, who were brought to this country legally, adopted legally, and have no documentation in any other country other than here? What about us? Drop us in the middle of the ocean? What if our parents and homes were wiped out in a natural disaster and there is no record anywhere of who we are? If a legal American citizen wants to adopt a child from another country, should they be forbidden from doing so? Should internationally adopted children not be considered US citizens by virtue of having been adopted?
Amanda - give it a rest. And YES it does get old to try and talk to someone through their children. Try working retail. NOT many speak English. And it is NOT just mexican. That is a very small percentage of the languages spoken. What will the United States look like in 50 years? Well they won't be speaking English THAT'S for sure.
Now do it tomorrow, the next day and the day after! UPHOLD our nations laws all of them or none of them. But stop picking and choosing!!!!
God Speed, when is the last time you exceeded the speed limit. Cops pick and choose all the time because they don't have the resources to catch every illegal act. The next time you get a warning for speeding I expect you to demand the cop give you a ticket with the same vigor you are demanding that all laws be upheld all the time.
If they will sneak across the border, they will sneak into my home. This is a total disrespect for our laws. Round them up and ship them out. All of them. They are becoming more hostile all the time, with feelings of entitlement, and less interested in learning English. They are dragging our schools down with their poor grasp of English, and costing us so much money that we are having to scale back the services provided for our own children. I won't even go into the medical expenses they create. OUT OUT OUT! and take your anchor babies with you. and I am a flaming liberal, so stop with the Democrat stuff!
Becoming more hostile how so? Do you have increased crime rates/ arrest rates to back that up? Thank goodness our ancestors didn't hold such a staunch view, most of us wouldn't be here. Most of them also speak English, just because you don't hear it doesn't mean they do not.
No you're wrong. Most of them DO NOT speak English and they are too lazy to learn.
And yes they ARE getting more and more demanding and hostile. It is a fact. Where in the world have YOU been???
In my municipality there is a law that was passed in the late 1800's banning cursing in a public place. If they decided to suddenly enforce that law, everyone over the age of three is going to be in trouble.
They DO NOT speak English! Do Not. And it is NOT just mexican - Ukrainian, Russian, Chinese, Pakistani, Indian (whatever they speak)!
Nope. And they don't want to speak english...
Amanda... you are so full of stories.....
joemike404 - Ahh, there it is, the old "speeding = violating a nations border" argument. Thanks for embarrassing yourself.
Tell us joemike; When was the last time you saw someone start speeding and they continued doing it every second of every day while they were in the U.S.?
Also tell us how much lost tax revenue it cost, how much healthcare costs they incurred but never paid, how many jobs the speeder took, and how overcrowded and inefficient they made your children's school, etc.... or just repeat garbage to make yourself feel special.
Texas Grace, cmach:
I speak and write perfect English. When I was young, Dad (a Vietnam War vet) insisted that I learn Spanish and French, too--the three working languages of the world. Usually by the second generation those who genuinely want to be here and want to assimilate learn English.
Amanda - I see all the time. No they do not want to speak English.
Usually by the second generation those who genuinely want to be here and want to assimilate learn English. not want to speak English.
So what do we tell the second generation who do not speak English - like we do now - "That's okay. We'll just teach you in your language". All on our dime.
3100 caught. With the way illegals are pouring across our borders it won't take long to replace them with more. Sad.
Did Benjamin Franklin have a birth certificate?
no excuse for breaking the law that is upheld in their country
B.Franklin would have had a birth certificate-- if they were actually issued in those days...DINGBAT!
Franklin was born when we were a colony of Britian. We were under their laws.
Was he here LEGALLY? Y E S
Roger, I bet the real Americans would have disagreed with you.
What's The Fuss - who pissed in your cheerio's this morning, Sunshine?
As long as they're rounding up convicted criminals and not college students; or farm workers, all of whom bust their ass so we can eat.
College students bust their asses so you can eat? priceless.
P.S.
Plenty of legal citizens are displaced from college by illegals, and there is near 20% real unemployment, everyone who is illegal needs to go. Bankrobbers don't get to keep their stolen money if they are in school or work on a farm... neither should criminal leeches.
A couple more years and Caucasians will be the minority. (Proven Fact)
Jake, So what?
You worried Jake?
Gee, you say that like it's a bad thing.
It is a fact that most countries with primary white populations have very low crime rates.
Tell that to Eastern Europe. And also just because a crime isn't reported doesn't mean it didn't happen.
Jake's point is that we're going to look like a third world country, specifically MEXICO. Gee...doesn't Mexico have problems like high levels of crime, corruption, poverty, overpopulation, bad sanitation, pedophilia, etc?
I guess joemike, pedoinSF and heehaw can't wait to wallow in it.
roger ramjet44060
It is a fact that most countries with primary white populations have very low crime rates.
Then our crime rate should have been low form 1700s to late 1800s but our crime rates just started going down after 1990s. Check DOJ for reference.

Very true that Mexico does have a high level of crimes. However, their rate is lower than ours, again check DOJ. We here in the U.S.A. have the highest rate of crime in the world. The lowest rate of crime is in Japan, which however, has the highest rate of suicide. Which is not a crime there, or is it a crime against humanity?
Exactly, Pheno. Thanks to illegal aliens, 95 out of the top 100 most wanted in Los Angeles are Hispanic Illegal Aliens!! Go ahead and check!
Too cool, our catch and release program with a twist we catch them again! Our Federal Government once again is wasting money when they could have deported the criminals the first time they were caught!
While I applaud the arrests they represent 0.0258 percent of the administration number of 12 million illegals. If you use the higher number of 20 million it is 0.0155 percent. I think today's birth rate among illegals just wiped that out.
Why haven't they arrested Obama uncle. He is an illegal in the State Of Ma. with a drunken driver conviction, seems odd they don't arrest all illegals.
They did arrest him.... then they said "Opps, it's O.K. we know you'll vote Demoncrat, here's some free money, now get back on the streets."
Quit grumbling. It is so past time to get started on this. First good news on this subject - possibly ever.
A Funnier headline would have been "3,100 Illegal Mexicans Executed in a gas chamber."
I wish death was the consequence for sneaking over a fence like a animal and stealing oxygen that could be used by me. Filthy animals. I have no problem with Mexicans here legally. Its the illegal ones that should be gassed! They would think twice before swimming that dirty ditch.
Sarcasm or stupidity?
I don't like illegals either but this is America, not the 3rd Reich.
Obama steps up the arrest before election. Did they get his uncle. I bet not.
he scewed up he lost those votes
I'll help in Oklahoma City. Can I make citizen's arrests? (Or non-citizen's???? Non-Citizens'??)
Certify me!! I'll need some help though........
1 against 450,000 or so.
Great...... another George Zimmerman.
Yes, how dare a person actually care about the neighborhood he lives in. It's too bad more hispanics are not like him and would actually try to safeguard their streets in their countries rather than running away to the U.S.
People immigrate to the U.S. because of people like George Zimmerman who takes the law into his own hands and pretty much doesn't even have to go to a holding cell or pay bail. His father is a magistrate and is well connected. People try to escape people who take the law into their own hands like the Mexican Cartels etc. Zimmerman is the watch, not the freaking neighborhood security guard.
Everyone wants them out but the truth is the US needs the cheap labor and they also are paying into SS and Medicare in their paychecks (at least the ones not working off the books) that they will never collect. The next step in the plan is to break up the unions and create a new breed of americans that will work for almost nothing to replace them.
but taking out double that in emergency room health care, food stamps breakfast and lunch programs with several last names.
How does an illegal file a W-2 anyways? Hmmmm...I wonder. Do they maybe do it illegally? They get paychecks. lol that's a good one.
Here's your illegal paycheck 'Kevin' *wink wink*.
Obama has been tougher and removed more illegal immigrants from this country than any other president, including Bush II, who was rather soft on the issue (so as to provide cheap labor.) Now, under his command, we have the largest one time sweep in the nation's history. Yet the right has already started their ruse of misinformation.
To all of you mocking the effort by the current administration, run for office and put up or shut up!
pig... back up your statements with facts. Show me where I can go to verify your liberal comment.
Piglizard is just a lib shill-troll......it's a fact cuz' I sez' it's a fact....can't argue that because all libs are self proclaimed fact flingers who believe they have "uber-intelligence" that trumps reality.....
Look up how many Bush deported to how many Obama deported... look how many agents were on the border during Bush and then Obama.... Pig is right do some research.
It seems to me that our two most recent presidents went the opposite way of what their party affiliations would have you think on this issue. Immigration is now nothing more than a political tool to make them appeal to voters on the "other side." I don't think either one of them (Bush, Obama) have really approached this issue in an objective, non-political way. Personally, I'm pro-family, and I can't stand how the enforcement of this is tearing families apart, legal or illegal. The article presents this as though all of the people rounded up in Obama's ICE are hardened, felonious criminals, when that's just not the case.
The best method I can see is to enact strict penalties for employers, but going after businesses would have a serious, negative impact on campaign contributions, so it's very unlikely. Maybe we could get to the root of the problem and criminalize bribery (lobbying) in Washington. But then that won't happen, either...

politifact and newser.... You just proved how fictional the claims are. Thanks.
OK
I run for office. Now what?
politifact & newser? Couple of crap sites with worthless information.
pj & master
Sorry, flox news doesn't talk about things like that. I know they are the only thing u2 watch and worship.
Finish the job............send them all packing! Drain on society!
To finish the job, you'd have to remove all people with a European genes.
no actually they contribute more...
AtheistLefty
America was founded by Europeans not Indians.
We won, it's over. That's how things get decided.
Actually the original immigrants to what we now call the USA came from Asia via the land bridge connecting Siberia and Alaska.
It's a fact that MORE THAN 50% of all immigrants now have a criminal history!
http://www.rense.com/general92/dark.htm
It's time to shut down our borders because were getting killed by crappy laborers looking for work thanks to Obamanomics.
LOL. What jobs have illegal immigrants taken from you? Fruit and Vegetable picking? Car Wash Drying? Dish Washer? Ditch digger? Landscape labored? If you are born in America, you should be striving for a higher ambition.
let 'em do it in their own country, besides those were learner jobs for American teen males, it defuses the hormone levels...
"we're getting killed"?
Strange, almost all of the murders around here are done by local hopped-up never wases Caucasians.
As for Casey's "learner jobs", I don't know anyone who is an employer who can afford to be a teacher or parent for a teenager. The local fast food places employ some, but most employees are now young or middle-aged, not teen-aged. And the field work simple enough for a teenager is now mechanized. Farmers can't afford to train a teen to work four hours and quit.
Bill - Thats funny, George Zimmerman is Hispanic. Perhaps you need to look at actual crime statistics instead of what you see "around there".
This is a good start. There should be no welcome mat for illegal aliens.
What amazes me is the fact that many hispanic activists who are U S citizens are putting their race above their country. These activists have said in so many words that an elected official risks suffering politically if he / she takes a hard line stand against illegal immigration.
I believe if there were hordes of western Europeans entering the United States illegally from Canada, most whites would say "deport them."
You are really speaking as if you are well educated on this topic. Where do you live? Have you actually met an an American who has a Mexican background? They are most likely to be very anti-immigrant. They are usually the ones who say English should be the national language. Mexicans can even be some of the biggest racist there are but one thing different, they hate everyone equally-including other Mexican Americans.
I know because I can admit I've done it when I was young. Yound being the important word. I no longer think this way. I am a Puerto Rican/Mexican/Irish American Mutt!
and you left out GODless, poor thing. Anyone who refers to themselves as a mutt has inner sanctum issues. now, scurry along go now scoot
Play it again Sam, Next you should check for the million or so new immigrants/yearly.
For 2010 - 1,042,625 immigrants.
Hey Casey--you go scoot, you knuckle dragger. I have read your posts and you haven't had much worthy to contribute to the debate not to mention very "unGODly" attitudes toward your fellow man. Tsk, tsk. The nerve you have to tell someone they shouldn't participate when you won't shut your own trap is telling. Start your own blog or site and then you can tell people to go scoot!
You are the one with issues since you can't tolerate someone who doesn't think or "believe" like you. I guess a theocracy is what the European puritans, land barons, slave owners and militias had in mind as we were kicking the previous residents out. I wonder what the Savages thought about those white tresspassers?
Now, to add the the debate: I am against illegal immigration because what it has done to labor in this country as well as it hurts diversity from other countries not just sharing our border (that means you too Canada!). Yet it is a complex topic because many facets of our economy have developed around the cheap labor--just look at what happened in Alabama to the farm harvest there. This country has had several illegal immigrant roundups, most notably in the late 1950's but it usually rears its head back because BUSINESS needs a way to drive down labor costs. Cut the snake off at the head first and then worry about the border and breaking up families that are being productive members of society.
I am also a mutt of 8 nationalities. And an Atheist Lefty as well! Casey, it's ok to be a little scared that we are progressing the country farther away from your "little house on a prairie/leave it to beaver" nostalgic views. Trust me your grand children will thank us.
My grandchildren will thank me? For what? Totally ignoring thousands of ID stealing criminals, gun runners and drug mules? I think not!
lack of insight - "progressing the country farther away... Trust me your grand children will thank us"
And yet this is the first generation that is without question worse off than their parents, and mufti-generational households are now becoming more and more necessary just to survive.
You are really in touch with reality aren't you? ask your own grandchildren, they will be living in your basement, of course they will be too dumb to tell you what you did to their futures.
Rounded up fugitive immigrants !
Really? These lazy cops let this situation run off with out them. They just want to look like there doing their job. We should deport all the lazy cops to an ice flow in the bearing sea..
All you have to do is wait for the republicans to steal the next election. Me and all the rest of us immigrants will leave.
Then who's going to make mc donalds for you obese ignorant children..? I
bye Jake. GTFO
It's completely true- Most of you left wing illegal supporters have no idea and have never lived where the impact is. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, lived there over 40 years. I saw huge areas, square miles, turn into gang banging barrios where hordes of food-stamp, SSI, section 8 housing, unemployment receiving oxygen wasters hang out all day. Paid for by your liberal policies stealing hardworkers' tax money. They all pay each other in cash and don't pay income taxes and the property values too low to help pay for their hordes of "chidrens", which they know the trick of not putting the father's name on the birth certificate so they can get more freebies. I saw all the county hospitals go under as hordes of non-paying illegals drove them out of business. I saw all the landscaping and restaurant jobs turn into minimum wage jobs.
