Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents take a suspect into custody as part of a nationwide immigration sweep in Chula Vista, Calif., on Friday.
Federal agents arrested more than 3,100 unauthorized immigrants last week in the country’s biggest-ever operation targeting criminal and fugitive immigrants for deportation, immigration officials said Monday.
From last Saturday to Thursday, agents in all 50 states used intelligence to track down certain immigrants.
The agents started before dawn; a supervisor would brief them about the person they aimed to arrest that day. In Dallas, a video from the raid on the Immigration and Customs Enforcement website shows a supervisor describing a man who had been deported before and who had a drunk-driving conviction.
The agents then headed to the person’s home, hoping to reach them before the person could leave for the day.
The roundup was the third “Cross Check” sweep since May 2011. In last week's raid, 1,900 agents arrested 3,168 immigrants, 90 percent of them men.
"These are people we do not want roaming our streets," John Morton, director of ICE, said at a news conference, according to Reuters. He said those arrested included almost 1,500 people with felony convictions, including murder and kidnapping.
Among those arrested were Carlington David Richards, 34, of Jamaica, who was living in Federal Way, Wash. Richards had recently moved to the U.S. and is wanted in Jamaica for murder, according to ICE.
Jose Angel Duran-Ramos, 66, of Mexico, was living in El Paso, Texas, and was convicted of murder in 1984 and sentenced to 18 years in prison.
Veasna Uy, 34, of Cambodia, was living in Long Beach, Calif., and was convicted of manslaughter, attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon in 2000.
Gillian Christensen, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman, told msnbc.com that the agency has focused on deporting known criminals since President Barack Obama took office. Now, 50 percent of deported immigrants have prior criminal records. In 2008, about 30 percent had criminal records.
There were 11.9 million unauthorized immigrants living in the U.S. in 2008, about 4 percent of the nation’s population, according to the Pew Research Center. Last year, the service deported 396,000 people.

Bush was talking amnesty if the illegals paid a fine and back taxes. Something like Reagan did, make them all legal by granting them amnesty.

Funny, but Obama has been president for 3 1/2 years, and ONLY now, when the election is heating up, does his admin start concentrating on "proving'' how tough they are on imigration? Did they not know about ANY of these people 3 months ago? And does ANYone not think that in October, he will not be pandering for Hispanic votes by saying "I got RID of all the bad illegals (Oops, he will call them undocumented immigrants) so we need to move forward on comprehensive immigration reform. (read: AMNESTY).

I heard a news report that these criminals are wanted in their "home country' for the crimes. I don't have any verification of this but it does raise some questions. Are we acting as the world police? Or are we actually trying to clean up America? I hope it is the latter and this administration is doing something right for our country. And if YOU would get the thatch off of YOUR roof, you would get an EDUCATION yourself and encourage EVERY immigrant to the US, be they legal OR illegal, to LEARN ENGLISH. It is the language of MONEY world wide. And in the US, we STILL encourage our students to learn a foreign language, but HERE they get to CHOOSE one. They do not HAVE to learn Spanish to 'better' themselves, they can chose to learn French, or Russian, or Chinese, or even LATIN. (and I'd strongly encourage the latter!)

And who's fault is that? why don't the Mexicans do something to change it? Why don't they help themselves by fixing their corrupt government? Several states have passed laws or are considering laws to require businesses to use E-Verify. A lot of push back from businesses, especially farmers.
If all the illegals go home, wages will rise for Americans. That's not going to sit well with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce types.

When I worked at Chicago's largest bakery as a journeyman mechanic the non-union Mexican supervisor loved to fire the union workers before their 90 day supervisory periods were up and the Mexican foreman said they are going to throw the union out and save "mucho dinero" by hiring all Mexicans.

The difference is, for 230 some-odd years, the United States of America has been a country, recognized the world over, with ESTABLISHED borders. And while for many years, we had need of immigrants to come here and work the land and build the country, after World War II, we realized that we were pretty much 'full up' and did not NEED unlimited immigration any more, so we enacted RULES for who could and could not come here, for our OWN citizen's protection.
EVERY YEAR, the US admits over 1 MILLION new immigrants LEGALLY. One for every 300 American citizens. MOST of them (over 60%) come from Mexico, and 20% more from 'Latin' America. HOW is that fair? Are there NO other countries in the world that have 'hard working people' who would LOVE the chance to come here? Sorry, but we have the ABSOLUTE right to limit immigrants to the US, and sadly, many of those streaming across the border illegally have NOTHING to offer that we could not get from immigrants from Laos, Somalia, or Lithuania. And none of those are wanting US to learn THEIR language instead of the other way around.
Stop giving Mexicans the FREE education that even some Americans never got.

That 11. 9 million or 12 million figure for the number of illegal aliens in this country has been bandied about for the past decade. In actuality, the figure is more likely to be in the 25-30 million range. And, if the Obama administration was so concerned about border security, how come he's cutting the budget for ICE, cutting the number of ICE interior enforcement agents, cutting ALL funding for finishing the border fence, cutting funding for equipping border agents with the proper equipment for their safety and security, cutting funding to continue the 287g programs which have been so successful and cutting funding for federal facilities to hold illegal aliens pending their deportations? This latest "sweep" is nothing more than a political ploy by Obama to make it appear as though he was concerned about border security.
This country needs to get all these illegal immigrants out of this country. They are not wanted here. It's called tres-passing and that is illegal. Great job in getting thees illegals caught and deported.

joemike404 There are several news articles on the internet about obama ordering deportation to stop, and allowing them to stay in the country. Go look for yourself. I live in Texas where you can't turn around without tripping over an illegal. They stand in line to wire or buy a money order to send most of their paycheck back across the border. They are filling up our hospitals here, receiving the same treatment any patient would receive and then disappear without paying. They are selling drugs, shooting and killing each other on a daily basis, and reproducing like jack rabbits. They have brought down the education of our children because their children can't speak English, and don't want to learn. Their children are also entering our schools without their inoculations and bringing diseases and illnesses with them. They falsify their identities to receive welfare and other social services. My list could go on. I am not repeating Republican rhetoric. I am a former Democrat and have become just as frustrated at the Republicans. I have seen and watched all of the above with my own eyes and ears. I have taught these children. Yes I want them out of our country. They are a drain on the economy, add to the amount of crime and take advantage of the rights that we as American citizens have fought and died for as well as paid for with our taxes. All those law enforcement officers, be they border Patrol, Deputy Sheriffs, city Police, or whoever, Congratulations and keep up the good work!
So, I'm just guessing here, but if these "Ice Agents" busted into a home to get their man, and their were say 15 or 20 other people in the house at the time. I bet they didnt even check their immagration status, they probably just let them go, right !
