A man who stole a woman’s bulldog, demanding pills and $1,000 for his return, was sentenced to 3 ½ years in prison, the Longview Daily News reported.
The saga of Jagger the English bulldog began on Oct. 4, when his owner, Jennifer Thomas, of Woodland, Wash., offered to give baby clothes to Johnny Lee Jordan, 39, and his pregnant girlfriend, Ivy Rose Svaleson, 24. Svaleson was days from giving birth.
Thomas, who is wheelchair-bound from an accident and relies on pain medication, last saw her 2-year-old pooch in her driveway, KATU News in Portland, Ore. reported. Three days later, she began receiving threatening photos of Jagger by text message, accompanied by threats.
“If you don’t do exactly as you’re told the next few messages will be of your friend slowly getting tortured to death,” the person wrote, according to KATU. “And do us both a favor, keep this to yourself, no cops.”
But Thomas relied on her medicine, KATU reported, and she did not have money to pay the thieves.
Investigators became involved, but turned up little. Then, on Oct. 24, Jagger the bulldog was found dead on railroad tracks. Officials believe he died before being tied to the tracks. Thomas’s veterinarian concluded that the dog had been tortured, although a Human Society investigator did not find obvious torture wounds, the Daily News reported.
Svaleson has admitted to sending the text messages and tying up the dog by the railroad tracks, the Daily News reported. She and another accomplice will be tried next month.
A witness pointed police to Jordan, who has an extensive record in Washington State.
Thomas, accompanied by her husband and daughter, watched Friday as Jordan was sentenced to 41 months in prison for theft and extortion. Thomas said he showed little remorse for stealing her dog.
"He supposedly was apologizing but he didn't look at us," she told the Daily News. "He tried to blame it on somebody else. He said, 'I'll admit to my part of it but there was another person.'"

How awful! How could they? That poor little dog. Tie them to the railroad tracks, beaten and tortured.
How in the world are animal abuse charges NOT added to his sentance?!
If he had done this to a Police K-9 he would be charged with killing a police officer.
Same should go for a dog stolen from someones home. I'm pretty sure the Railroad could have added
some tresspassing and public endangerment charges to boot. They should sell off everything that guy
owned(probably not much) and use the money to cremate the poor lady's dog and help her buy or rescue
another dog if she's ready.
Sounds like they didn't own anything of value if she was doing them a solid by GIVING them baby clothes for their soon to be newborn and they were ransoming her dog for money and pills...some people just have no decency. Why on earth would you do such a thing to a woman you know is in a wheelchair and whose dog is probably one of the few sources of constant companionship? That sucks. Think of the life their child is going to have and how she or she is going to be raised. Sad.
3 1/2 years? He got off easy. I think when you hold someone or something for ransom, it should be treated like any kidnapping and get the appropriate LIFE sentence.
And are you willing to pay the taxes that life sentence will cost?
Yes. GLADLY. Evil like that needs to be removed from society permanently. This time, it was that poor dog. Next time ......?
I would...better that than have these joes breaking and entering, and God forbid killing. They don't call them "repeat offenders" for nothing!
People like that are pretty consistent about escalating so YES I would gladly pay to keep them off the streets. I pay for people to be locked up for things that worry me a lot less. Who knows maybe next time it will be your kid or mine. Dirt bag druggies who will kill and torture for a fix basically have a social form of rabies.
I too would happily pay the taxes to keep scum like this away from any living creature for the remainder of his miserable life. This sentence is a slap in the face to the family of Jagger, basically saying that his life really wasn't worth too much when to them he was a beloved member of the family. I truly believe that people that hurt and kill animals should never see the light of day again because it is clear they put no value on life. Even worse he valued extorting pills from a woman who needed them so he could get high over the life of another creature, he is the worst kind of scum and would probably have done the same to her child had he been able to get his hands on him/her.
what the HELL is wrong with people....seriously, what the hell! What a senseless, cowardly act upon an innocent life. Sorry excuse for a human being he is...
Absolutely I'd pay to keep this monster off the streets forever. We need to keep anyone who is convicted of a violent crime out of society. Why give them the opportunity to do it again? I can tell you if this monster did this to one of my animals, he wouldn't be in jail right now, but six feet under. My heart goes out to this woman and her family. RIP Jagger:(
Police routinely execute family pets during drug raids, where is all this outrage and calls to "get them off the streets" when that happens?
I love my dog as he loves me unconditionally
hang em' from the highest tree we can find
POS LOSER
Wow, that is about as low as you can get. Doing horrible things to kids and animals is despicable because they can't defend themselves. Scum, scum, scum! 3 1/2 years is too little. A lot of people (including myself) believe their pets are family members too. He's just taken away their family member and has probably caused them a great deal of pain and suffering, let alone the pain and suffering of the poor animal. He should go to jail for a looooong time.
No animal cruelty charges to top that off? I agree, 3 1/2 years is waaay too light of a sentence...what's to stop them from kidnapping and holding someone's child for ransom? These people are beyond corrupt, and should have been jailed accordingly.
Hi all, we have an OLDE ENGLISH bull dog, slightly taller than the traditional ENGLISH BULL DOG. Same gene pool, very loving, loyal sweet as ever. These "kidnapers", as part of their punishment should be sent to an animal shelter to treat and care for the abused and dying, above and beyond their meager 3 1/2 year sentence.
Hey Mit Romney, you lucky Shamus did not get an attorney.
I don't know about that animal shelter idea. I certainly wouldn't trust this garbage around animals, even supervised.
Don't let him anywhere near animals, unless it is in cage with some hungry wildlife.
DRUG HEADS ARE HEARTLESS ; listen to rush limbaugh , he's one , and man , he'd talk about your greasy ,greasy grandma for another oxy-cotin hit !!!!!!!!
Unless there was an -R or a -D after the bulldog's name, don't bring politics into this story. It's sad enough as it is.
Michael Vick was sentenced much more harshly and millions was taken from him, seems to be a big difference in these 2 sentences.
Michael Vick had millions of dollars and was a high-profile NFL quarterback. This mutt (and I'm not talking about the dog) is a dopehead with probably only the pitiful contents of a singlewide trailer to his name. You can't get blood from a turnip, but you can throw that turnip's heinie in the clink.
Your right but the point I was trying to make was it seems that if your responsible and make good money the courts strip everything away from you, yet if your a dopehead and have nothing then you spend a couple of years in what is probably better conditions and get free medical and dental care. For one the penalty is much more harsh, for the other its like a vacation. Also the hate and publicity directed at Michael Vick was very strong, this guy barely got mentioned, PETA isnt going to demonstrate at his trial. Guess life isnt fair.
So wait square dude, you just now figured out that "life isn't fair" and that rich and poor people are treated differently and could view punishment in a court of law differently? Congrats and welcome to reality (and in case you haven't heard about other stuff - watch out for that y2k thing and they invented a new thing for music, it's called a CD)...though it's funny that you referred to Mike Vick as "responsible" - hahahahahhahah.
This guy and Michael Vick are not in the same league at all. Michael Vick allowed numerous dogs to be tortured and killed on his property for the entertainment of his friends. He is a sick, sick man and he got less than he deserved and his career back to boot. This idiot kidnapped a dog to extort pain killers from a helpless woman who needed them for a legitimate reason, then because he did not get his way he tortured and killed the dog, not for entertainment but for a high; personally I think a slow, painful death is too good for this scum and I would petition, march or do whatever necessary to see a much harsher sentence, but at least I know when he gets out of jail he'll still be poor scum with nothing and the reputation in the area as a dog killer; no NFL career and million dollar contracts for this jerk.
Michael Vick was responsible in that he worked hard at his profession and was very successful. This guy sounds like he never worked a day in his life. Please dont think Im defending Michael Vicks actions, yet this reminds me of a person I knew who spent his life working hard yet accidentally injured someone, being sued for millions. Another person who did nothing with his life living off his parents and the govt will get a free pass for the same accident, its almost like we want to discourage success and responsible people. But like I said life isnt fair.
Do you think people are going to choose not to be successful because they would lose more net value than the guy living in a singlewide trailer if they pulled a Michael Vick or Bernie Madoff? Aren't success and responsibility their own reward?
The bad guy in this case is really going to need those pain killers when the people on this board get done with him. Just an observation.
.."if your responsible and make good money the courts strip everything away from you"
Uhh, Michael Vick, who tortured and killed multiple dogs, seems to be doing just fine right now...
This is why there should be a three strikes law...in this case, the casualty was a beloved pet. Tomorrow it could be your fellow man. You can make excuses for addicts until Judgement Day, but the fact is that junkie is responsible for what he's putting in his or her veins, and should face their consequences accordingly.
It burns me when people say "legalize it" like it will be a magic wand that will suddenly end such problems. I would love to see them have one of these fine, upstanding joes living under their roof, helping themselves to their stuff. I'd be curious to see if they would still hold to that line.
The fact this scumbag didn't even mean he was sorry says it all...
I grew up around drug addicts and have to agree with you. Few people get to see how bad it gets with them.
Having lived with a pill addict and a guy that smoked weed I say legalize weed and stop making pills. The guy that smoked weed never hurt anyone, was caring, considerate and held down a good job while his father, the pill addict tried to kill his wife, burned down the house, stole from family, neighbors and whoever else he could get things from, lived on disability and contributed nothing good to society at all.
Today the guy that smoked weed back in his younger years no longer does so, nor does he drink or do any other types of drugs, he is a productive member of society, donates his time to charitable causes such as the Special Olympics and the SPCA, has a great job that he loves, is happily married and has a great life. The pill addict last I heard was either homeless, in jail or dead, no one is certain but not a single memeber of his family would take him in because he is a danger and a threat. His pills are legal, prescribed and ruined his life. Before pills he was a great person.
DRUG HEADS ARE HEARTLESS ; listen to rush limbaugh , he's one , and man , he'd talk about your greasy ,greasy grandma for another oxy-cotin hit !!!!!!!!
Why do people feel that they need to bring their retarded politics into stories like this?
People who do things like this should be removed from society permanently. I feel sorry for the child they have spawned and hope that baby will be removed from their custody before s/he becomes another victim.
They should kick his ass into a pit of dogs trained to fight, like that wheelchair freak from the "Hannibal Lector" movie and those wild boars of his.
This guy has a long criminal record and he's still allowed around normal people? America treats criminals like royalty and always giving law-abiding citizens the shifty eye like the pedophile-worshipers they are.
I'm sickened to hear this. That poor little dog...:(
This guy will be trouble for all of us till the day he is put in the ground.
WHAT REALLY SUCKS is That we all pay for this. We pay taxes that house, heat, feed, shower and entertain the bastards. We rate ourselves on a higher standard of deserved punishments because we are what? Civil People? This is NOTHING civil about the treatment the dog endured let alone its beloved owners anquish. I vote we stop tending to these discusting excuses for humans and stop making us all pay for them. Designate an island in shark infested waters and dump them ALL there. Then its every man for themselves and we are rid of them for life. Society needs to GROW A PAIR
twistmy its been done in the past, Britain with Australia, and France with Papa New Gina, temporally solves some problems but I notice Britain and France still have crime today.
I would love to do the very same thing to him. May he burn in hell.
Our animal cruelty laws need to be tougher. These people who hurt, maim and kill animals are not people that should be out in society. If you can stop them when they are young and put them away forever the crime rate would go down drastically IMHO. People who would do this to animals would not hesitate to do it to a human. 3-1/2 years is not long enough and I think maybe if they started putting the death penalty on the table for these sort of crimes that would also ebb the cruelty status quot.
Kathy please dont we have enough prisons in this county, is it always our first response to throw them in jail? Besides penalties are already stronger than just about any other country in the world. Suspect this guy needs thousands in dental work and medical issues, druggies usually do, they dont take care of themselves. Would be nice if prisons could pay for themselves but federal law prevents prisons competing with private business. So your answer is to execute them, well now the bill to taxpayers just jumped to millions instead of thousands to prosecute this sentence.
Penalties may be stronger but we don't carry them out for 20 years, giving people the chance to life with parole on appeal...thus making jail time not as scary as it used to be and not the looming threat that it used to carry. I say if we ant to deter crime, we set a maximum number of years a person can be on death row who is unequivocally guilty and a limited number of appeals and it would cut down on the taxes we're paying to house and feed people who don't belong in society, and it would strengthen the idea that crimes against other people are not to be taken lightly. That, and I'm personally not a fan of giving someone a drug o they don't feel as much pain with lethal injection...if they're getting lethal, chances are the crime they committed included inflicting pain and torture on someone else. Why should they get the easy way out?
Take the dog out of the equation and you still have a couple of tweakers who will commit crimes again to fuel their drug habits when they get out. It happens time and time again, these people go back into the same crowd and same area they came from, and the cycle replays itself. I'm not talking about pot, that should be legalized and most of the b.s. with that would stop anyways, but people who sling pills and sell meth should get the same punishment some overseas countries do. Death penalty. That would discourage every local lowlife from turning their house into a meth lab.
I hope someone pops him the day he walks out of prison. he doesn't deserve life.
They should have tied him up on the railroad tracks and let the train run over him. Poetic justic
I feel so bad for the dog and the owner. A innocent person with legal prescribtions taken advantage of by scum...He choose drugs she didn't and to loose her beloved pet over that so sad thats all she had ...tougher laws
never trust a junkie. the woman tried to do a good deed for a couple of low lifes and her dog was killed for her kindness. junkies are scum. they only care about themselves & getting high. throw her & him off a cliff. worthless losers. jail is too good for them.
This his some Jerry Springer @!$%#..
What a mean creature. No humanity, whatsoever, left in him.
The drugs already destroyed him. What a mess.
Hope they don't release him and his cohorts early.
There are so many like him across our country,
they are zombies, the liviing dead.
If they can't get the pills, they go for cheap heroin.
They can't think right, they fried their brains.
They are starving creatures, needing that next hit.
They are desperate, and mean.
They will do anything. They are Lost.
Their minds are gone.
If this happened to me I would be facing Murder charges at the very least.....possibly some torture charges too.
Dont mess with my dogs, I consider them a part of my family and will protect them as most parents would protect
their own children. The scumbag would receive no quarter and neither would I.
