Woman who claims winning Mega Millions ticket refuses to produce it

Mirlande Wilson, who works at a McDonald's in Maryland, claims she holds one of the winning tickets from the record Mega Millions jackpot. But while Wilson has done plenty of talking about the winning ticket, she has yet to produce any evidence. NBC's Savannah Guthrie reports.

A Maryland woman who claims to hold a winning Mega Millions ticket is refusing to show it to anyone.

"I'm so scared," Mirlande Wilson told NBC affiliate WPTV.com, as she refused to reveal her ticket. "I'm so shocked, I don't know what's going on."

When Baltimore-area resident Wilson came forward claiming she was a Mega Millions jackpot winner, her co-workers at a local McDonald's restaurant said they deserved a share of the winnings because they were part of a lottery pool

“We had a group plan, but I went and played by myself," Wilson, a single mother of seven, told the New York Post over the weekend. "[The ‘winning’ ticket] wasn’t on the group plan."

The woman told WPTV her co-workers have copies of all the tickets bought with the pool money, adding she had asked a friend to buy a separate ticket for her.

"McDonald's don't have nothing to do with this," Wilson told WPTV. "They don't have nothing to do with -- they don't even know about it and they don't even have nothing to do with this ... It's only us by ourself (sic)."

Three lottery tickets sold in Kansas, Illinois and Maryland hit the record-breaking $640 million jackpot. Each winning ticket was expected to be worth more than $213 million before taxes.

In Maryland, the winning ticket was sold at a 7-Eleven store in Milford Mill, near Baltimore. Maryland does not require lottery winners to be publicly identified; the Mega Millions winner can claim the prize anonymously.

But lottery officials say so far no one has produced a winning ticket.

"We've heard it's somebody's cousin, we heard it's somebody who works up the street, the guy who mows the lawn, the lady at the McDonald's," lottery official Carole Everett told WPTV. None of these claims matter, she said.

From her quotes in the paper, I don't think she is smart enough to know that. If she really does have the ticket, I'm betting she will be one of those stories where she'll be broke in five years. I hope someone with some savvy and intelligence helps her, if she actually has the ticket. Single mother of seven, she could use some financial help I'm sure.

If she really is one of the winners, maybe she can use some of the money to go back to school and learn to speak proper English. I also hope that she did make copies of the pool tickets and distribute the copies to everyone before the drawing. Otherwise, she is going to be sharing the winnings with her coworkers, as another recent court decision has demonstrated. I do not understand why this woman would come forward and identify herself as the winner but refuse to produce the ticket. It would be far safer to sign the ticket and turn it over to the lottery officials than to hold onto it and risk someone trying to steal it. If she were really worried bout her safety, she should not have identified herself as the winner before turning in the ticket. It would have been much safer for her to walk into the lottery office with the winning ticket before everyone knew who she was than it will be now. Of course this whole thing could also be some kind of scam with this woman just looking for her 15 minutes of fame. There have also been a few cases where people have claimed to be lottery winners and gone and gotten new cars and other luxury items on credit with the seller thinking they were good for it since they just on the lottery. Then it came out that the person had not won the lottery and had no way of paying for the items and was just scamming businesses to live it up for a little while. I am not saying that is the case here, but it has happened before.

I was going to say something similar. . .and that's probably also why she's so scared (assuming she's telling the truth, and not just attention seeking). She probably genuinely has no notion how to handle this situation, and is terrified someone is going to try to bilk her out of her winnings (and she's probably right).

Ahhhh, such in the life of a "Lottery pool" winner at the office. And why is she refusing to show anyone the ticket ? And, she is sure trying to distance herself from her work.

I can see the writing on the wall now.....COURT CASE.

Where is the Kangroo Court on this one ?

From the quotes in the article (use of language, she could be lying). There is one statement re: her boyfriend that is suspicious.

Another story where the facts are skewed. More to come---

If it is true, she's (sorry) going to lose it all, because nothing was put in place before announcing it before working with Accountants, Attorneys, Financial Advisors. The Attorney Fees will wipe her out.

A lot of her family and friends will be the ones who are rich---she could so easily be scammed by anyone who has a 'bridge to sell". Kidnapping, held for ransom may be what she has to look forward to.

Most Lottery Winners lose all their money within a few years. This is Happiness?

The lottery should also keep their mouths shut for awhile or until the winning ticket is in front of their faces. Let a person say they have the winning ticket don't have to know their name right away, but if a true winner they would know where it was sold. But the lottery in advance always states where winning ticket was sold, lottery office should wait awhile to say where sold!

I think it's about time to get rid of the damn lottery. $billions spent on a wish so a few people can get rich. That money should be out in the communties purchasing products that are sold by local businesses and generating tax revenue. Our state, Washington, lied to it's citizens about the money going to our schools, total BS. Our elected officials just can't resist taking our money in any form that they deem legal. I wonder if I could set up my own lottery? We know the answer to that, don't we?

As mentioned, if the group of them was smart enough to make copies of the tickets and give each one a photocopy, she has no leg to stand on. We do the same thing - go in on a group purchase and everyone gets a copy of the tickets so if anyone buys their own ticket, everyone knows for sure WHO won.

Yes, there are people in this country that are black, uneducated, immigrated here, and are trying to make the best of their life in America. The Right attack this woman by stating she's probably on public support, etc. due to her ethnic background and # of children. But, now since she has a job, you say that maybe she can afford birth control. Then, many people say this woman probably voted for Obama and try to play more politics into this.

It's exactly the negative, racist, POS's like you all that have destroyed any chance you will win the election this year. Your scare tactics and lies are losing their weight in Glenn Beck Gold, because even though you try and try, more and more people actually decide to listen to what you are saying and not just clap and applause when you say you "stand for American values" and continue to support big oil, the rich, health care lobbyists, and your own pocketbook. As people continue to listen to the emptiness of your claims, all we do is feel sorry for you and the sad lives you live because you think you can blame everything negative on a sole person who isn't responsible for 80% of the BS you make up. The other 20% could be debated logically, and the Right may actually have some standing ground, but they continue to rely on tactics used in the 50 and 60s because the only population left that still believes them, are the same people that don't have computers, cell phones, etc. and are stuck in the 50s and 60s. The world has changed, and we must change with it. America cannot always be the most powerful if we do not adapt and continue to become innovative. The Right is the real problem. And your comments represent that perfectly. The educated populations in this coutry vote Blue. There is a reason for that - We are educated.

It is obviously her winnings if indeed she did win. The pool tickets were in the work safe. We're not dealing with fully lit people, they hear she won so they think it's fishy even though they have copies of their pool numbers. Steve - She bought the ticket outside the lottery pool, with her own money. The lottery tickets in the pool and numbers were distributed to the others. SHE BOUGHT THE TICKET. Why should she share the money with others? There is no legal binding that would require this. If the ticket in the pool won, then yes. How can you judge this person based on her being nervous and scared? As long as she signs her name on the back, the ticket cannot be claimed by anyone else. But, you are correct to question why she hasn't turned it in. It's way too risky not to (loss/destruction of ticket).

Patrick, are you a Christian? So many parts of the bible contradict what you claim. This woman has every right to bear and care for as many children as she wants. The bible states you should always help your fellow man and contribute to their well being. Can you please point out a part of the bible that says we should do otherwise?

If not a Christian, why then cannot this woman be allowed birth control if your vasectomy is covered by insurance? What's the difference? Then maybe she wouldn't have had all those kids you complain about. Oh wait, you don't want that either. You just expect everyone to be like Santorem (spelling) and practice abstinence. How's that working with the Palin family?

You're supposed to keep your mouth shut until you hire a lawyer (or a team of such) and financial adviser.

Why? So they can get their "fair share" of your money? That "you're supposed to" is something that is said by lawyers and accountants...they're the only ones that are legally allowed to fleece you in their minds. You don't "need" to become famous for winning a lottery. You don't "need" special financial loopholes. All you need is to claim your prize, pay your taxes and live happily ever after. Anything other than that, you're just helping make somebody else get rich off of your luck.

They said the lottery number purchased for the team at the restaurant did not have the winning numbers. So what is their beef. Bet every one of them had seperate tickets.

If she does keep persuing that she had the lone ticket and it was not a part of the "pooled" tickets she will have a hard time proving, and in the end she may lose all she could have won by going the legal route. it would be better to settle up now then risk losing it all to her co-worker's who it appears would have grounds for a very expensive and favorable lawsuit.

What does Obama have to do with this. It is the same crap about what does Obama have to do with Travyon Martin. He has to put his crappy 2 cents in any where he can. As far as a voter for Obama she is perfect. Uninteligent, popping out kids left and right, and black. What a perfect Obama voter.

"Mirlande Wilson, who works at a McDonald's in Maryland, claims she holds one of the winning tickets from the record Mega Millions jackpot. But while Wilson has done plenty of talking about the winning ticket, she has yet to produce any evidence. NBC's Savannah Guthrie reports."

      So... why is this news?

      Educated

You have descibed the left perfectly. Lie after lie comes from the left. Racist comments come from the left. And you must not be very educated because a woman does not need a job to afford birth control. We pay for it now because of the stupidity of our unconstitutional ACA. You need new talking points, we have heard the ones you spew too many times.

Although your post has nothing to do with the lottery, you figure that ACA is paying for birth control now how? as that part does not go into effect August 2012 on exisitng policies that people have paid for or get through employment, and nobody has yet to purchase a policy as envisioned by the maybe "unconstitutional" mandate to have one which does not go into effect until 2014.

All these comments and arguements for DAYS and I've yet to see my own opinion expressed. I can't possibly be the only reading person in the USA (or even the world the way these stories explode) that thinks she "thought" she was funny.

        HELLO!! APRIL FOOLS ANYBODY!!?

My opinion is she thought she was being "cute" not thinking it through. Why the heck would someone call their WORK of all places and announce "I WON". Especially to a bunch of people that would expect (with good reason) that if she won, they did too? HUH?

Yeah, I bet she IS bloody scared!!

Jackieboy, you have said nothing that I disagree with. That said, I am not bragging, simply calling out a yahoo with a moniker like "educated" and replying in similar terms. As for the volunteering, definitely. As for you being more intelligent than I, possibly, but you come close to negating following statements. Doesn't matter, really, it just pisses me off when someone plays the arrogant "intellectually superior" card. Maybe I'm being immature, but I'm comfortable with that.

Obama this, Obama that! Left this, Right that! I'm a liberal, but I don't condone stupidity, ignorance, or kids everyone else has to pay for. And Bush is always putting his two cents in everything too. Afghanistan maybe? No point there. So how does any of that apply? You're obviously racist. None of you know if she's even ON public assistance and if she was, and she really won, she will most certainly have to pay them back! With all this intelligence and education on here (sarcasm), I would think someone would actually know that. Go Figure... If we spend more time focusing on ourselves, we wouldn't have this much room for hate and opinions on others business. Just food for thought....

Assuming she really does have the winning ticket, and she's lucky enough to avoid being hit with a lawsuit by her coworkers, she'll almost surely be hit with a lawsuit by the friend who bought the ticket for her.

So sad, all that money, that could be invested and put to use helping good causes, will just go to waste and be gone in a few years...

I'm not just saying this. I've seen it happen. An old neighbor of my family's won with some coworkers years ago; they each walked away with about $5 million after taxes.

They got a new house, about 2,500 square feet, on five acres. With $5 million, you'd think they'd have paid it off. Nope. House is foreclosed, and they're living with relatives, after spending it on frivolous things that were eventually pawned.

This is the American dreams, folks. Don't get an education, don't work for anything, just wait for it to be handed to you. Then, don't appreciate it.

Three reasons why she is acting sly and skittish about the ticket. One, the ticket was part of the ones she got for her coworkers and she is afraid of it showing that she bought the ticket on the same day as the ones for the workers. Two, she's here illegally and is afraid of losing the money because she's not a citizen. And Three, this woman hasn't the ticket and is attempting to scam the lottery. I believe it's the third one and this is how she would do it.

She tells everybody that she is a lottery winner and has the ticket she is about to go to the lottery place and low and behold the ticket gets stolen or destroyed. She fights with the lottery and say I was the winner and knows she won't get the jackpot but hopes to get some type of settlement. I know this sounds far fetched but look at the woman and her boyfriend, these two look as smart as a box if rocks. If she had a ticket worht 280 million dollars she and everybody in that house would be going ape @!$%# over it. She has a look that she knows she doesn't have it.

7 children? Working at McDonalds? Unmarried? I'm willing to bet that the man she's with is not the father of any of her children.

Then there's the lack of education.

I don't know why, but black society seems to scorn the opportunities that have opened up to them... it's not whites keeping them down anymore. They're keeping themselves down.

As far as the ticket is concerned, I don't think she's smart enough to know how to turn it in.

Watch for the McDonald workers who bought Lottery tickets with her, to sue the "H" out of here.

She must produce the ticket for all to see--this woman is illiterate and a Haitian. That may explain her bad use of the English Language.

If my ticket won (this much) and I was also in a pool but losing tickets and only 3 people. I would split it anyway. A shame that she (maybe) has found this good fortune and acts like an idiot.

              Re Sherrie

Even if she was provided free birth control doesn't mean she would use it---or use it properly. I base that on the fact that she has seven children already and probably counting.

I would venture to guess that a single mother with seven children working at McDonald's would already have access to FREE birth control.

She gets nothing if she can't produce the winning ticket. It would be so funny if another actually had the winning ticket and was putting together a team of consultants prior to submitting the winning ticket.

With hundreds of millions of dollars on the line, you don't walk in waving the ticket, saying "Hey y'all, I won, I won!!"

You need to get lawyers and a bunch of people to cover your a$$ and your winnings, which takes time and prep work.

                #2.9 - Tue Apr 3, 2012 2:49 PM EDT

Agreed. Anyone can say they won, but if they don't provide the proof they are s.o.l. If she truly did she needs to sign the back of the ticket, get a lawyer and show the proof. Until then she's just looking for fame without the proof that she gets the reward.

                  #2.10 - Tue Apr 3, 2012 3:50 PM EDT

I agree and also, why does she have 7 kids and work at McDonald's? How do you support 7 kids on $7 an hour? She needs to go back to school if she did win and learn how to speak correctly and maybe she can do better for herself and her children, and not lose all her money foolishly because I have a feeling she will be broke in a few years.

                    #2.11 - Tue Apr 3, 2012 3:55 PM EDT

She had those copies though. Another point that people did not talk about is how do you let this woman run your lottery pool. She is buying the tickets and making copies? Hmmm. You'd think someone with a better head on their shoulders would be put in charge. Either way, it is greed at its finest. She is trying to stiff her co-workers, or they are now attempting to grab. Bad part is she is going to get this thing tied up in court for a long time, and one of those sleazy companies that "buyout" your inheritance or annuity and give you quick cash will approach her. They will give her 50 cents on the dollar.

Hey, Steve-885087. You said you'd think someone with a better head on their shoulders would be put in charge. Did you forget these were all McDonalds workers? Perhaps she WAS the best they had. And did you notice she didn't really buy the 'winning ticket' herself? She asked someone to buy it for her. Do you think they'll want their half, if it really was the winning ticket? But, I'm with the majority here. First, she doesn't really have it. Second, if she did have it and won, it would be all gone in just a few short years. She doesn't strike me as being smart enough to find her way home from work.

I vaguely remember something similar happening to an illegal immigrant who tried to come forth and claim a lottery winning, but was denied because he was not a legal American citizen. It was 3 to 4 years ago.

There's no requirement that a person be a citizen in order to win the lottery. The only requirement is that they have the buck (or two) to buy the ticket. The case a couple of years ago where an illegal immigrant won and his boss claimed the money so that he didn't draw attention to himself and his illegal status. Then the boss wouldn't turn over the money. It went to court, and the illegal immigrant got his money - and got deported.

For those of you complaining about her gramma and lack of birth control. SHE is an IMMIGRANT FROM A NON ENGLISH SPEAKING COUNTRY. Most 3rd world counties don't have Planned Parenthoods! You all are soo ignorant.

Makes you wonder how she can afford to buy lottery tickets working at McDonalds and having to raise her 7 kids.

Makes one wonder just how many jealous posters there are here. And if she provided the group with copies of the tickets purchase on their behalf prior to the drawing, and the winner isn't one of them, they have no complaint whatsoever. Happened to me. Purchased 20 tickets for a group, photostated all of them and passed them the day before the drawing, and the ticket I purchase right before the drawing was a $2k winner. They tried the same BS with me.

No, unless she spends all the money by next week and ends up on welfare again. That would be a waste of luck.

On another site she said she was going to buy a house for herself and her 7 kids. I suggest hiring a good team of advisors for the money, and one to adivise her on birth control. The next child she has will come with a man who will want his "share" of the money!

I think the government should bill her for what is no doubt tens of thousands of dollars in aid she has received over the years.

With all the taxes she will have to pay out, I'm sure it will add up to more than most people will ever pay out to the IRS in their lifetime. Okay, she made 7 kids, but at least she was still working. No doubt she's on welfare as well, but she never received as much as what she will pay back in taxes and therefore, she is not a burden to society. I just hope she does share some of this money with her employees. To be honest, I'm not even sure she's the winner. I would have handed over that ticket as soon as possible to avoid losing it or even being robbed and I would have came forward anonymously. I would have also called McDonald's and quit. No one would have known the real story.

It's why you sign the back of it, then make copies and keep em in a safe or bank safety deposit box.

In many states, you cannot come forward anonymously.

@DesertKing - if she really has a winning ticket, the Government will take more money out of her than they ever gave her by 100x over. $216 Million = $154 Million cash option, so feds will take $38 Million off the top - and that doesn't include state and income taxes, that's just the 25% the fed takes out of gambling winnings before she sees a dime.

I bet she takes the money, throws it in a pile and takes a picture of it and puts it on Facebook. Then she will probably buy "dubs" and a lift kit for her 1986 Chevy Corsica. Then she will be rollin' down the street with hooped earrings the size of basketball hoops, high heels, and chains that go to the knees from her neck.

Although well employed, I had my tubes tied after two because I wanted to be able to feed, cloth and educate mine. What is anyone, who works at a mcdonalds thinking when they have seven children? The more you have, the more government help you get? It's not fair to the children.

Office pools risk can be minimized if.... as soon as you get the ticket in your hand, share the numbers to the pool. Ambiguity claims ended. Then, if you win on your own, be nice to share a small goodwill sum.

Cheaper than legal fees and time spent to fight off resentful ex-coworkers.

My office pool makes a copy of all the tickets and gives a copy to each person that is in the pool, that way if one of the tickets from the pool wins, everyone has proof it was from the office pool tickets.

I was in a company pool once; a coworker bought a ticket on the side. We all had copies of the pool numbers. He won $1500, we won $85. We weren't upset, even tried to give him his portion of the $85, he wouldn't take it and we didn't expect part of his money. I know it isn't millions, but I don't think it would've made a difference if it was. Just depends on the people involved. If she is telling the truth, then they should back off of her and she has no obligation to share (nor should she if they try to take it). If it's a lie, then she should have to go apply at Burger King.

If her story is true that she gave copies to her co-workers immediately after purchasing the pool tickets, then the winning tickets would belong to her. If the co-workers did not have copies of the winning ticket then this would smell fishy to me. If the winnings numbers were not on the copies given to the co-workers then the woman story is true and the ticket belongs to her.

In the first article I read about this, supposedly the manager had given her $5 more dollars at the end of the night to pick up a few more tickets for the work pool. If he did, this was really dumb, but this is why they claim she is full of it and they are owed the money. There is no way of knowing if she did pick up 5 extra tickets for the pool like she said she would because it was done after hours and with no documentation. Maybe she did buy 3 tickets for herself on top of that. If that was the case though, you're back to, how do you prove the winning ticket was one meant for the pool? It is only her word. I think in this instance they are going to get screwed. Which is too bad.

People don't know what kind of risk they are taking with a lottery pool if they don't run it to cover their behinds.

People can lie on either side.

Collect the money and the names of who donated, purchase the tickets as a group, print the names and tickets on copies to hand out, do not collect any additional funds...purchase your own tickets separately and at a different store as evidence it is removed from the group.

Do that, and you're going to have an easier time convincing a judge and civil jury that your extra tickets were yours.

If that manager gave $5 and she admits that this is true, she's probably screwed. If the manager gave $5, she denies it, and store members "witnessed this" they are biased witnesses because they'd be winning part of that money..... much more difficult to prove.

                                        Money makes people ugly.

It's won't be that hard to verify! The lotto system will show when, where and what time they were bought. If it was part of a large batch or just 1 or 2 tickets at a different time then the rest. Now if it was 5 tickets the night the manager gave her 5 more dollars then she's got a problem!

Has anybody stopped to think that she already has to split this money with a number of people. You can bet you bottom dollar that the baby daddies are already camped out on her front porch looking for their share. Deserved or not.

I believe the reference to Nigerian is not racial. It refers to the many internet e-mail scams that start with "I am a Nigerian..."

Amazing how referring to "number of kids" or a well-known scam that often is rooted in Nigeria suddenly appears racist or "racially driven" to Sdot. Lighten up a bit. Don't you think that working at McDonalds and having 7 kids might lead someone to believe she has gotten government assistance??

racism and ignorance are alive and well in the US.

                                              naturally disguised as "jokes"...

                                              so hilarious.

maybe the duggars will show her how to milk her community for free clothes and food, so she can claim to be "taking care of all her kids all on her own" just like them. no doubt she's already learned the golden rule "have lots, so the oldest can raise the youngest and you can just have a good time"

If you read those things and automatically equate it to race, perhaps it is you who has the issues with racially driven thought?

Some of the responses were meant to be funny, but many of them were totally racist and so judgmental. Geesh, if you think living on welfare is a gravy train, try doing it yourself. The amount they get is below the poverty level and does not increase that much by the number of people in the household. Certainly, each child costs more to raise than what they get from welfare. As I write this, I just happened to see Jessica1170252's response re the Duggars. Do your homework, Jessica. the Duggars were and are financially stable (and totally debt-free) all on their own -- even before the TV show.

Ok, Magmary. Then here is an idea. STOP HAVING BABIES IF YOU ARE ON WELFARE.

Because if you are having babies while on welfare, I will judge you. It's not fair to the taxpayers and it's not fair to the child. Condoms are free and the pill costs less then a baby. It's the epitome of entitlement to keep reproducing while taking government money.

You know what? I'd love to have a child. Do I have one? No. Why? Because I'm waiting until I am financially secure on my own, with no help from man or government, and married (or at least with a live-in partner). This is called personal responsibility.

Why would anyone feel this woman needs governmental help because she works at McDonald's? We sometimes get the wrong conception about people. I would be in a daze if I had discovered I had won this large amount of money. Why does she have to be illiterate? Why can't we just wish her well should it really be true? I suppose I have a lot of questions relating to this issue. Do we really know she is illiterate? Actually she could have been married and now single. About getting her tubes tied is a joke, come on and get real people. Americans can always see the worse in people as opposed to the best. It is true she should hire an advisor as how to manage her money. Even people that are literate do, right. As I said previously, let's wish her well.

I never have understood how anyone can be racist. I mean, how can you dislike or hate someone because of something that is totally beyond their control. No one has any control over what race they were born.

Racism is so irrational, so illogical, its just down right stupid. You literally have to have a very low IQ and/or psychologically compromised to be racist.

E-8989685, I wonder which stereotypes it is that we (you) are referring to? You do realize that white people have lots and lots of VERY TRUE, negative stereotypes, but you don't hear them every time something in the white community goes wrong! Maybe she doesn't speak very well because she is not originally from America. That doesn't make her illiterate tho. Did you actually test her on her reading and writing skills? I think not. Maybe her seven kids were from her husband, that was killed by rebels or had to stay back in their country, or maybe they're just divorced. Is there a possibility she's not actually on government assistance? Your assumptions are dumb, considering you are all so smart. Do not judge another until you have walked in their shoes. It's easy for white rich folk to stay rich. Kids born with silver spoons and what not... But if you are born into a poor country, family, etc, with slaves for ancestors, and racial stereotypes that say who you are before peopleeven get to know who you are... It's a lot harder to break those chains. Regardless of what you "know it alls" think. I challenge you.

                                                  @Pamela

Try reading the story, it doesn't hurt....much!

“We had a group plan, but I went and played by myself," Wilson, a single mother of seven, told the New York Post over the weekend. "[The ‘winning’ ticket] wasn’t on the group plan."

Now it you aren't illiterate you'll see what is says about here martial status...single mother of 7....and obviously receiving government assistance, a single person can hardly support themselves at a minimum wage job let alone 8 people.

I'm sorry, but this woman (if her story is true) is an idiot. Why would you go to the media first and not a lawyers office? I am very suspect of her claims. I don't believe she even has a winning ticket.

I doubt she even purchased any tickets, let alone a winning one.

                                                      @JimmyH,

Gotta say, I agree with you 100%.

If I had this ticket, the LAST place I would have gone is into some media office to get my picture in the paper.

I would very stealthily slide down to the lottery office with a lawyer and a pistol with me...

Baron, the pistol I would leave at home..LOL Smart people that win this kind of jackpot wil go to a lawyer and a financial planner and have accounts set up. Then you go to the lottery office. This process could take weeks. To go to the media two days after winning is just plain stupid. "If" she is the winner, I think she'll wind up broke and back at McD's within 5 years.

Someone said she is an immigrant, if so she probably doesn't know what the correct procedure should be. Single mom of seven, I'd say there are several procedures she is unfamiliar with: birth control, marriage, self control/discipline. She needs a lot of help, whether or not she has the winning ticket.

I don't play the lottery, but I would guess that the officials will a little help when it comes to lawyers and such. Maybe not the connection, but certainly information on the importance of representation and where to find counsel.

Which brings us to the question of whether or not people who are accepting welfare (and I don't know for sure that this woman is getting welfare) should be spending money on lottery tickets. I vote "no."

Photocopied every one and gave each one of us a copy. We then all bought our own tickets. It should be very easy to prove if she bought it alone or with many other tickets. She is lying in my opinion.

Why do you all have to pick her apart for who she is? At least she HAS a job and is keeping all her children! That says to me that she has an understanding of responsibility since she obviously isn't relying solely on welfare. She has kept her children rather than giving them to foster care and probably costing more to tax payer and hopefully because she loves them and wants them all in her life.

Seriously. Give it a rest already. We'll find out soon enough if she is lying, but who cares about what you think of the woman herself. Sheesh.
