Self-declared Mega Millions 'winner' Mirlande Wilson: I lost the ticket

A Maryland woman who says she purchased one of the winning Mega Millions lottery tickets now claims the ticket has been misplaced. WRC's Shomari Stone reports.

A mother-of-seven who claimed she was one of the winners of the $656 million Mega Millions lottery told NBC News on Thursday that she has lost the ticket.

Mirlande Wilson, 37, claims she bought the winning ticket at a 7-Eleven in Baltimore, but so far none of the three winners -- the two others were in Illinois and Kansas -- has actually come forward to claim the money.

Asked by NBC Washington’s Shomari Stone whether she was going to ask for her share, Wilson said, "if I find it [the ticket]."

Stone then asked Wilson if she had lost the ticket and she replied, "I misplaced it."

She was reportedly responsible for a McDonald's employee pool of Mega Millions tickets, but has said that the winning ticket wasn’t part of the pool.

On Wednesday, Wilson’s lawyer Edward Smith Jr., asked the press to leave her alone. Journalists gathered in his office and were then told to go away.

"That's really it … to ask you to go back to your places," Smith said.

Woman who claims to be Mega Millions winner: Leave me alone

Wilson, a Haitian immigrant, told Stone that her situation was "really stressful."

Amid continuing doubts about her story, Stone asked her if she had made it up.

"I didn’t make up the story," Wilson told him. "I did not make up no story to get no attention."

Maryland Lottery director Stephen Martino said the winner has until Sept. 28 to claim the prize. The winner has to do so in person, but doesn't have to make their identity public. Two other winning tickets were sold in Illinois and Kansas.

Stephen Martino, Director of the Maryland lottery, tells reporters that as of now, no one has approached the lottery claiming to be the holder of a winning Mega Millions ticket.

Martino said the winning ticket was sold at approximately 7:15 p.m. on March 30 -- less than four hours before the drawing -- at the 7-Eleven on Liberty Avenue in Baltimore. It was a Quick Pick ticket, and was the only one purchased at that time.

Martino said that officials have looked at surveillance tape at the 7-Eleven, but that there is an issue because the timestamp on the tape does not exactly match the timestamp of the lottery ticket machine, so they can't be exactly sure who bought the ticket from that video.

Because of all of the rumors swirling around who possesses the ticket, Martino is urging people who bought tickets at the 7-Eleven to check their tickets again to make sure they don't have the winner. He said he hopes that people haven't thrown out their tickets thinking that someone else won, only to have had the winning ticket all along.

This really has nothing to do with how many kids she has or being on birth control. It does have allot to do with how delusional she has been. If I won the lottery I would not be calling my place of employment bragging that I won. What cracks me up is the fact she has a lawyer but no winning ticket in hand.

Earlier comments were that she would not share the money because she purchased the ticket independently from her co-workers. Karma's a b**ch, maybe a payback for her selfish attitude? IF she ever had the ticket to begin with. Like other posters, I think she needs to be evaluated for mental problems. i think her co-workers know where she's coming from now and I would hesitate to include her in with theiruture lotteries.

She lied. Plain and simple. She may have just wanted attention. She certainly got it and now it's her responsibility to climb out of the hole she dug. I am curious though why everyone is making such a big thing out of truly nothing. There are people like this everywhere so let them live their silly fantasy and get on with your lives. It is rather embarrassing for her family though. she does seem like a narcissist. Shame on her for her ridiculousness.

Funny, I had the winning ticket too and lost it also. Now I have to wait for the next mega jackpot to win and lose my next fortune.

She made a claim that she won and when the real winner steps forward, she is going to say that person stole it and wants to split it. Unreal!!

Nothing to see here folks, keep on moving. Just anther piece of ghetto trash that mistook her food stamps for the winning lottery ticket. Too bad she didn't win, getting 7 kids off welfare and foodstamps would have saved the government a bundle.

Just her look in this photo & now, "Ummm I lost it" claim is EMBARRASING. Lady you are the poster child of what Chris Rock was talking about in his HBO special "Bring the Pain". I won't repeat it but jeeeeeeeeeezus!!!!!!!

People who repeat what black comedians say- like its wisdom or gospel - are foolish.

These are the same men who go bankrupt, become druggies or alcoholics, pcik up trannies, father illegitimate kids, or- in Chris Rocks case- get caught more than once cheating on his wife with s*kanky, low grade Tiger Woods level white women who milk him for loads of $$$$$ to keep quiet or raise mixed kid that wasn't his.

Google: Chris Rock -Monika Zsibrita and Kali Bowyer.

Chris Rock IS more of a stereotype than this lottery woman! Get it straight or don't go racial with this story.

she just wanted her 5 minutes of fame. I doubt she ever had the ticket to begin with. I hope she feels like a fool facing all those folks she works at when she bragged that she had one of the winning tickets.

This woman is too stupid to even breathe. Why in the name of God did we allow someone this dumb, who has seven kids, is unmarried, to be allowed to immigrate? You can't tell me she supports those seven kids cleaning tables at McDonald's. I'd be willing to buy her plane ticket back to Haiti and she can take her rugrats with her.

From what I have read, she has more than one low wage job (immigrants usually do). But the lottery pool was only with the McDonalds co-workers.

I had a winning ticket too. It got taken by a hawk that was flying by when i was walking to my car to cash it in and must have dropped it in someone's yard. I can't find it right now but i will keep looking.<sarcasm>

can't wait for the lawyer's reaction when she can't pay him.....

She is one greedy woman. As I said in a previous post, if she was in charge of the office pool, that ticket is part of that pool as well, because evidence it was separate from is absent. How much would it be if it's split? A hell of a lot more for her and a lot of people than they are getting playing this game. She has seven kids. What can she give them that's greater than integrity, and a strong sense of right and wrong, by doing what's right, now?

oH she's got the ticket I bet, but in the background her Lawyer is twisting the other mcDonalds people to either

drop any claim, or they will offer them a pittance to settle. This lawyer wouldn't be working for this lady unless her saw the ticket and knows he's gonna get paid..probably a commission based on how much he can screw the others out of.,,

The old expression goes, "NO TICKIE NO SHIRTIE!" I believe she has one year to produce the ticket, if not,oh well one less winner.

She has 6 months from the date of the drawing to claim her prize, but yes no ticket no winner and the money doesn't get redivided between the remaining claimants.
