Subscribe to RSSPolice are asking the public to help identify suspects involved in an Inglewood shooting that left a 28-year-old father dead after he shielded his 8-year-old son from the barrage of bullets.
Fredrick Martin and his son, Tre, were in front of their garage Tuesday night when gunfire broke out, police said.
When he heard the shots, the man pushed his son to the ground and covered him with his body. Martin suffered gunshot wounds to his abdomen and upper torso and later died at the hospital.
'Ultimate sacrifice'
"The investigation is not going well," Lt. James Madia with Inglewood police said, adding that detectives are working on a few conflicting descriptions of the possible suspects and their cars.
Martin’s son, who shared a home with his father, mother and grandmother, suffered only a minor graze wound, Madia said.
Martin's wife Amanda is five months pregnant, according to a family friend.
About two dozen friends and family mourned Martin near his home Friday night.
"We know that there was an ultimate sacrifice made on the other night," one said during a prayer.

On Tuesday, another man, 29-year-old Joseph Hickman, sustained minor injuries when he was shot in the ankle.
The shooting that killed Martin was one of three unrelated instances in the area that night, police said. Shortly after 10 p.m., officers arrived to find a car crash and a shooting victim in the 3500 block of Victoria Street.
About one hour later, a 31-year-old man was shot in both legs in the 500 block of N. Marlborough.
Police do not have suspect descriptions for any of these shootings.
Detectives are urging anyone with information on these incidents to contact the Inglewood Police Homicide Section at 310-412-5246, or anonymously at 888-412-7463.

Gangs, rap music, keeping up with the kardashians, jersey shore and anything else that grabs the attention of our youth and sends them down the wrong path of life needs to be taken out of our eqasion of society. I hope the responsible parties are found and prosecuted appropriately, they need to pay for this murder and also the dammage they have done to this poor little boys mind when he watched his father courageously die in front of him.

When will gun haters like YOU realize that guns don't kill! They are an item that just lays there until a person picks it us - guns don't kill people - people kill people USING guns, BUT they also use other types of weapons! Knives, rope, hands, hammers, rocks, clubs, baseball bats, etc. It's the PERSON that needs to be put away that uses a weapon meant to defend yourself in the wrong way - but are you gonna outlaw all hammers, too, because many people have been killed by a hammer!
Ron - In your case that's probably true. I suspect however, if Mr. Martin could do so this morning, he would argue that guns don't belong in the hands of CRIMINALS. But of course they still have them. I suspect even more that as the CRIMINALS bullets shattered his body, sucking the life out of him, Mr. Martin wished that HE had a gun. Could the outcome have been worse?

maybe outlaw gasoline? The fact is people will kill people, guns make it easier, but then so does a car, a knife, or even gasoline. I believe in gun laws, there is not a NEED for average citizens to carry fully auto guns. however I also believe outlawing guns will allow criminals to have power.

My prayers go out to the entire Martin family and most specifically to the 8 yr old who may encounter emotional problems besides losing his Dad , and also to the unborn child who never realize growing up with or sharing any time with it's Dad. Again, my condolences to the entire family. I pray the idiot who shot the gun is found and justice is served.
Fredrick Martin made the ultimate sacrifice for his son. If I were in his shoes I couldn't imagine doing otherwise.

They need to do something, but with budget cuts and the police force taking cuts along with everyone else, there is just so much you can do. It only said he covered him with his body, not that he was facedown. He may have wanted to be able to keep an eye out for some kind of escape, or to see who it was. The man was a man in every sense of the word when it came right down to it, so what does it matter?

Have you ever wondered why anyone would attach any gravitas or related credibility to the remarks of someone who can't so much as use the language correctly? Might be going out on a limb here, but whites seem to go the murder suicide route, or picking specific targets. If they are involved in drive-by shootings it doesn't make the news. Not that it doesn't happen, I just don't know.

Maybe some do, but not on the grand scale of blacks! 83% of ALL crime is committed by blacks. Latino's are famous for gangs and gang activity and maybe in your area of CA. they do the drive-bys but around here it is not the norm - blacks will shoot anyone just for kicks - doesn't have to be gang related! In St. Louis, MO. every 5th. citizen living in the city limits are members of a gang - there are over 1000 gangs in that city - and most d. by's are committed by the black - usually black on black. But we don't really care because you see that is just that many LESS than any one else has to worry about. We think there should be a stockade fence put around their community, AK's handed out, and just let them kill each other off! Unfortunately they breed like sewer rats so for every one wiped out several more grow up to take their place! The other groups don't commit this kind of crime in this area like in CA. There is a larger latino population in Calif - maybe that's the reason.

I hope his wife is able to afford to move out of the gang infested neighborhood. It is a sad situation that in some neighborhoods people are so fearful they have to live with bars on their windows. It is easy for us to say...step forward and say who did this...however if it were our own families being threatened I doubt we would do any different.
I agree we need more gun control but most importantly we need MUCH more LAW enforcement. Heck cops should be patrolling those streets 24 hrs a day. This type of crime doesn't happen in Beverly Hills. I think anybody who has children living in GANG land should MOVE.

You are right about that. The cops need to be where the problems are, and if it means hiring 100 more, then find the money to do it. Crime is everywhere, but in some areas we still manage to find the guilty and bring them to trial. Some areas are so fearful they don't dare say a word because they simply can't afford to move. At least don't be having babies and subjecting them to the same future.

In Indy they have Black Expo every year, which is an event to honor all the contributions and businesses the black community brings to the city. Shootings there last year, shootings there this year. I mean, what is the deal? Why not take pride in your accomplishments? Why bring this to an event held in your honor, to showcase your accomplishments? That is the mentality I don't get.

California has more anti gun law than any other state 46 pages the last time I counted several years ago. The next closest state was Massachusetts with 19. California also has more victimless laws than any other state. with all of these laws the law has to waste time and money that could be better used looking for these cowardly drive by shooters. I have said for some time that there should be an automatic death sentence for drive by shooters.
Every body, with the "Brady Bunch" line of thought, tries to blame the NRA. Why would the NRA be blamed for something they are fighting. Every incident like this drives another nail into their side and negates all of the good efforts they have spent fighting for the rights of the law abiding. I think it is the "Brady Bunch" that finds and encourages these people so they will have something to use in their fight against rights of the law abiding citizens of this country.
Once these people are found, most likely you will find that they have a record a mile long and shouldn't be on the streets in the first place. Show me the statistics that prove the anti-gun countries are safer. Number one, comparing any country to the US is bogus. Comparing any country to a single state would be more accurate. Facts are that given the same are and population as the us, these countries have more mass murders and violence.
Another thing you have overlooked is that facts show CCW holders have a much better safety record than law enforcement. I have a CCW but do not carry usually because I am more afraid of the law making a mistake than I am of the bad guys.

This is California, you know, where all you can do is what Martin did. In the most socialist (New York, of course, can lay claim to the "title," also) state - who sends Nancy Pelosi, Barbara Boxer, and Dianne Feinstein to Congrees to represent them - you are denied the most basic of all rights, a right granted by the creator to every living thing, that of defending you life. And when you must protect one whom you love, the most you can do is offer your life as a sacrifice to both murderers - those with a gun and the state that provided for them alone to have it.

Maybe the man was acting suspiciously there and the shooter was just "standing his ground". Self defense. No, that doesn't make any sense at all. Neither does Zimmerman shooting an unarmed teenager. This story presents itself as a senseless tragedy. My thoughts and prayers goes out to this family.
These anti-gun folks may not have seen the latest from the Windy City.. Chicago. Where gun ownership is made very-very hard. In fact since the Supreme Court ruled that Chicago's gun law unconstitutional. Chicago has passed laws that do everything to hamper gun ownership in the home. So guess who has the illegal guns? You guessed it......... the thugs, and they didn't bother to obtain a "Illinois FOID" (Fire arm Owner Identification) card either.
So far the Windy Cityhas managed to count at least 110 murders from thugs with illegal guns so far this year. Last weekend, 10 human beings lost their lives to thugs with illegal guns. Why don't we hear those kinds of reports out of. Dallas Texas, Nashville Tennessee, Atlanta Georgia, Minneapolis Minnesota, Denver Colorado, Miami Florida, Milwaukee Wisconsin, Boston Massachusetts, Raleigh North Carolina, or Philadelphia Pennsylvania and other states? Because they all have the same laws on the books. Their called "Shall issue Concealed carry laws".
The anti-gun crowd, would have folks believe that by disarming the law abiding American citizens is the only hope. But the truth is. The folks who can legally carry guns in their states. Don't have the kind of issues that the "Windy City...Chicago" does.
As long as there are two folks left on planet earth, there will be differences of opinions. Someone may pick up a baseball bat, a brick, or a rock to settle their differences. But being able to defend themselves and their families gives the law abiding citizen the upper hand, against thugs, and those who have no regard for human life.
