Racial slur on Mich. road sign targets Trayvon Martin

Michigan authorities on Monday launched an investigation after a racial slur targeting Trayvon Martin was discovered on an electronic construction sign along a Detroit-area interstate.

Michigan State Police told NBC News affiliate WDIV-TV that someone hacked the road sign along I-94 around 1 a.m. Monday and posted "TRAYVON A N*****".

Martin was shot to death by George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer, at a gated community in Sanford, Fla. on Feb. 26. Zimmerman has claimed self-defense, telling police Martin attacked him. Martin was unarmed.

Motorists who saw the sign heading into Dearborn, Mich., pulled over and reported the sign to state troopers.

"I feel violated by it," Elaine Bonner told WDIV-TV

Michigan Department of Transportation spokesperson Rob Morosi said someone broke into the sign’s operating system and put up the racial slur, changing the original message.

The message on the construction sign was taken down before Monday’s morning commute.

Michigan State Police and the Michigan Department of Transportation are investigating and have turned to the public for help in finding those responsible for the hacking.

"Whoever it is needs to be found. They changed the message, now find the messenger,"the Rev. Wendell Anthony, Detroit NAACP president, told WDIV-TV.

This trial is likely going to be more junk-like than the Casey Anthony trial. My best advice is not to give the trial attention. Why? Because you're most likely going to be conscious of mostly junk. James

    Society's 4 secrets for success !!

    1. Get an education or trade.

    2. Stop dropping illegal babies every nine months and 6 minutes to encrease your welfare money.

    3. Contribute more and whine less; No one OWES you anything !

    4. Learn to accept the blame for your own mistakes.

Bigotry has always been alive and well in Michigan...especially bad in the lower eastern portion of the state. Dearborn is a small white bread community but never a hot bed of any overt racial overtones. this is so sad...makes everyone look bad...find em and prosecute them to the limit allowed. This is NOT "free" speech it is "HATE" speech...a deliberate attempt to inflame the public.

Hate to burst your bubble, but there is no such thing as "hate" speech. The correct term is, "FREE speech that I don't like", since that's what it is. This isn't a speech issue, by the way- it's about tampering with the sign. The message is irrelevant.

The 'N' word is used in many, many rap and hip hop songs. So why is it okay there, but not okay elsewhere? Black people can use it but white people can't? I also hear black people calling each other 'boy', but if a white person calls a black male a 'boy', we're racists. Is it any wonder that race relations are screwed up? I need a freakin' score card to figure out what's wrong and what's okay. Honestly, I'm sick of it.

If black people want to be universally respected and not subjected to racism, then they need to play by their own rules.

So you want permission to use the N word, artslady?
            Why?

Why haven't we heard the results of the investigation?? My guess is the culprit was somebody "pro-Martin" trying to make it look like a racist somebody "pro-Zimmerman." If so, why wouldn't the investigating authorities and/or the media report it? Sadly, it looks like the course of this entire ordeal has been played out in a court of highly biased public opinion, instead of being weighed against rule-of-law.
