I don't know how they can possibly have due process in this case. We have one dead body, laying on his stomach. The only blood work was that taken from Trayvon. No photos, did not take the gun, did not test the clothes. There was absolutely nothing done for three weeks after the shooting. The night of the shooting it was raining. How much proof are you going to get at this late date. I can understand people keeping guns in their home for protection but what is someone who lives in a gated community walking around with a gun to protect himself. I thought that's why you lived in a gated community.

He should have not left his car, he should have not stocked a child. What ever happened IS solely Zimmerman's fault. Talk about not taking responsibility for your actions. Why should anyone pay his bills for him. He put himself in this situation through his own actions and only he should have to pay the price. There had been some burglaries in the neighborhood and Zimmerman wanted to be the hero and catch the thief. He played vigilante and got it wrong, shooting an unarmed, innocent kid. This is why civilians should not try and act like the police. None of this would have happened if Zimmerman had simply followed neighborhood watch guidelines. Instead, he violated the two most basic principles of the neighborhood watch program. First, the neighborhood watch is supposed to function only as additional eyes and ears for the police. They are not supposed to pursue or try and detain suspects, they are simply supposed to report their observations to the police and let them take it from there. The second main principle is that neighborhood watch volunteers are not supposed to be armed. Zimmerman was running around carrying a concealed weapon because he was a frustrated wanna be cop. He had no other reason for needing to take a weapon with him. Why did he need to have a weapon with him if he was really just out to make a trip to Target as he claims. The police already had some serious doubts about Zimmerman in light of his frequent calls to police reporting suspicious people in his neighborhood. It is also telling that every single suspicious person Zimmerman reported was a black male. People have tried to say that he is not racist because he never brought up the race of the person until he was asked. This is a load of crap. The fact that the only people he reported as suspicious were black clearly indicates he was racist or at a minimum profiling black males as being suspicious an up to no good, regardless of whether or not they had done anything to support this conclusion other than being in Zimmerman's neighborhood. The police wanted to arrest him the night of the incident but were overruled by the DA, no doubt in response to a call from Zimmerman's ex-judge father to the DA. Of course the authorities will not release phone records to confirm or deny this, because they know the records will confirm the call and they do not want to add more evidence that there was an attempt at a cover up.

Zimmerman, and only Zimmerman is responsible for the position he is in. Let him pay the price himself. People should not give their hard earned money to help out this racist vigilante who got himself into a jam.

Did you read the same article I did? I was aware of the controversy over the edit of the 911 tape and this cleared that up (in Zimmerman's favor). Also, the wet clothing, bloody nose and head cuts noted by the officer tend to support George. But why do YOU choose to ignore the testimony of experts as to who was calling for help (not George)? None of this addresses why George left his car against police advice or why he felt he had the right to stalk anyone, particularly a child, with a gun. Where is Martin's right to stand his ground against an armed stalker.

As far as 'EVERYTHING being there' I didn't read any mention of the fact that the Sanford police left Martin on a slab and made no attempt to contact his parents (they had his cell phone) to even inform them he had been killed. Nor was there mention of how unusual it was for the prosecutor to be available at that hour, to quash charges that the police wanted to bring. Where was that in the wiki article? While I agree that this is one of the more impartial articles, it is far from complete and does not suggest any particular outcome. Your assumption that it clears George Zimmerman is exactly that... YOUR assumption! You have read the parts you want to read, to come up with the idea you had before you read it. Some of us read to be informed, not supported.

Sadly, in Fl with the law "stand your ground" Zimmerman is likely innocent. If Travon had gone home and grabbed a weapon and killed Zimmerman he would be innocent as well. I would hate to live in a state in which you should truly be afraid to go out in the dark. Bring a gun, shoot and any noise that frightens you...sick.

Truth and justice do not go hand-in-hand. We are naive if we think otherwise. If Trayvon doubled back and initiated confrontation, doesn't he have that right under Florida's stand your ground law. It is hard for me to feel sympathy for Zimmerman's current circumstances. He failed to control his impulses and the situation escalated where an innocent person was shot and killed.

Purely speculation; but what if Trayvon was trying to get away and Zimmerman was still in pursuit or going back to his vehicle and their paths crossed. Trayvon is in the mindset that he is innocent and being pursued by some man for God knows what, while Zimmerman's mindset is that this young man is up to no good and now thinks this young man is confronting him. If you were Trayvon you'd most likely still be in a fleeing mode but your fight or flight instincts would kick in. If you are Zimmerman you now believe you are in danger. Both are running on adrenaline and both are suspicious of each other. Except Zimmerman has the upper-hand with a concealed hand-gun. Also, Zimmerman is the adult and all of this could have been avoided if he had just waited in his car for the police to arrive.

The standard for arrest, in every state is not "beyond a reasonable doubt" it's "probable cause".

Here is the standard for probable cause...

Apparent facts discovered through logical inquiry that would lead a reasonably intelligent and prudent person to believe that an accused person has committed a crime, thereby warranting his or her prosecution, or that a cause of action has accrued, justifying a civil lawsuit.

Here is what the FL Stand Your Ground Law says...

(2) A law enforcement agency may use standard procedures for investigating the use of force as described in subsection (1), but the agency may not arrest the person for using force unless it determines that there is probable cause that the force that was used was unlawful.

Here is your probable cause...

The 911 operator asked, "Are you following him". Zimmerman responded, "Yeah". The 911 operator than said, "Okay we don't need you to do that". Zimmerman than said, "Okay". Whether or not Zimmerman than listened, is a matter for the jury. The fact that he admitted that he was following him, is probable cause. As is the fact that he got out of his car in the first place.

Yes, Trayvon had a reason for being there. Zimmerman's job as neighborhood watch ended when he called 911. His job as a watchman (unofficial by the way, they weren't registered with the national neighborhood watch) is to WATCH and REPORT. He had done that. The fact that he continued following, watching, and eventually confronting (he did get out of the car and a scuffle did happen) is probable cause. Furthermore, it's in direct conflict with neighborhood watch rules, to carry a weapon, which is more probable cause.

He was treated by the paramedics. That's all we know, besides the fact that he DIDN'T go to the hospital and that he had a minor abrasion on the back of his head. His claiming to be assaulted so bad he was afraid for his life, but didn't need to go to the hospital is probable cause, whether or not that could still constitute self defense is for a jury.

Zimmerman's claim that he was returning to his car, yet the body was away from the street is also probable cause, because it doesn't add up with him obeying the 911 operator. Nor does his claim to have been attacked from behind, add up with his having a broken nose. Whether or not they can make a claim that Trayvon attcked him from behind while he was walking back to his car, anyway, is for the jury.

The fact that Trayvon was unarmed, is also probable cause. Whether or not that matters, is for the jury.

Finally, in FL, if you're making a claim of self defense, the burden of proof shifts, and falls on the person making the claim...

The Criminal procedure allows a defendant to file a motion to have the judge dismiss the charges against him/her. That motion, which is filed by the criminal defense attorney, does not technically characterize the defendant's justifiable use of force as a defense to the charges. The criminal defense lawyer's motion will properly indicate that his/her client's use of force renders the defendant immune from prosecution on the charges. Because the justifiable use of force defense is an assertion of immunity rather than what is referred to as an affirmative defense, the motion is made prior to the trial, and the judge will weigh the relevant evidence to determine if the defendant was justified in using such force. The defendant has the burden of proof, but the standard is by a preponderance of the evidence (i.e. greater than 50%) rather than the typical beyond a reasonable doubt standard the State has in a criminal case.

You may believe the hearsay that corroberates Zimmerman's story and claim that this looks like a case of self defense, many disagree with you. But if you are right and that is true, than let Zimmerman be arrested (we have enough probable cause for that) and file his motion of self defense.

Arresting Zimmerman just to placate the public is NOT the right approach. While it seems to us that there IS probably cause for an arrest and trial we must remember that we do not possess all of the information that the prosecution does. With 3 separate investigations I see no reason to jump to conclusions.

The saddest thing about this whole situation is that as a norm in this country, "defendants" are assumed guilty and have to prove their innocence when it is actually supposed to be the other way around. Zimmerman has been assumed innocent by the Sanford Police and the States attorney themselves instead of having to prove his innocence in court like every other American who has committed or has been accused of a crime. i still question the police actions on that day? how come on the tapes you can hear the shot and you can clearly hear the other voices in the background but no Policeman identified themselves as an officer and have Zimmerman lay down his weapon? but you can clearly hear that no yelling to a gun wielding shooter "to put down his weapon". As a son of a cop who rode on even the simplest calls, if there was ever any mention of weapons being used the police "do not approach" without making sure that any weapon is exposed and visible by yelling to see it at a distance. this would have been heard on the tapes at some point but wasn't. It is possible that one of the cops shot him and then they coerced this idiot into saying it was self defense. I guess I'm on the same train as the rest of you today and will have to wait! R.I.P. Trayvon, the truth will be revealed.

IMO, taking all the "facts" about Zimmerman and Martin, and all the facts presented by Mr. Zimmerman, law enforcement, phone transcripts and witnesses so far, THIS seems to me to be the most plausible scenerio:

Martin doubles back when Zimmerman finally stops following him. He confronts Zimmerman somewhere near the vicinity of Zimmerman's car. Zimmerman either immediately draws his gun or makes a move for it, and Martin attacks him IN SELF DEFENSE, with a reasonable fear that his life is in immediate danger.

I present this scenerio because of several things. Would Zimmerman in that situation really be oblivious enough of his immediate surroundings that Martin could actually "sneak" up on him and excecute an "unprovoked" suprise attack from behind? I think not. I would think that Zimmerman, not knowing the location of Martin, would be 360'ing constantly.

Two people touted by the news media (and this claim is basically unchallenged except by arm-chair QB's) as experts in voice detection have said that the person calling for help was NOT Zimmerman. I don't think it was the third party on the grassy knoll either. My best guess is that while Martin was trying to beat Zimmerman senseless in able to disarm him and possibly save his own life, he was screaming for someone, anyone, to help him.

And thirdly, Zimmerman called the police 46 times on New Year's Eve. This and listening to him on a couple of released 911 tapes easily leads me to the conclusion that this guy was a nut case before the "incident". I believe he was a tragedy just waiting to happen. It's not the open carry law. It's not race. It's not a (let's grant you this) muscular teen inexplicitly attacking a NORMAL law-abiding citizen for no apparent reason. Yeah, connect the dots, but do it with the way you're asking us to. With an entirely open and intelligent mind.

Okay lets talk about facts, First fact you have Florida's stand your ground law. A law that allows you to use deadly force in defending your life or to preservation of someone elses life, ie you are not the aggressor but defender. Lets look at what is known of that night, Zimmerman, captain of Nieghborhood watch...Fact... spotted Martin in gated community....Fact Martin carrying a drink wearing a hoodie....again fact....suspicious actions, walking home has now fallen into the catagory of suspicious actions, this is clearly opinion at this point from Zimmermans point of view. Zimmerman follows, thus far Zimmerman is in a vehicle that wieghs over 3500 lbs Martin weighs 120lbs, no obvious fear of life here...Fact.... Zimmerman contacts police is advice not to persue....Fact..... Zimmerman leaves his vehicle.....Fact..... Follow with me cause unless I am missing something still not seeing the threat of anothers life nor his own....Fact..... In his call to police Zimmerman is breathing hard from attempting persuit...Part opinion and part fact... someone help me understand cause if I am Martin and I have someone following me my mind clicks to defensive mode wondering why am I being followed and by whom... I know it is claimed that Martin circled Zimmerman and he was attacked then shot....this is not a fact people it is Zimmermans story, thus opinion fact cant be proven as the only witness is dead.... now lets define hunting: the tracking, stalking and killing of prey usually for food some for sport... I can see this being the definition of that evening you have Martin the prey, Zimmerman the hunter... Zimmerman persued Martin following judging keeping sight of, Sounds like hunting to me, even if Martin was able to circumvent Zimmerman and attack is it really an attack? why isn'[t Martin's action being attributed to self defense enter into evidence the fact that Martin is on the phone with his girlfriend. Now I am no forensic scientist by any means but please make me understand how can someone on the phone sneak around and attack you?? Really are we that nieve (sorry but yes sanford PD ate it up) but lets go with it the aggressor is now confronted does that now make him the defender... I think not as is well known by many bear hunters sometime the hunter can bite off more than he can chew. No matter how you try to twist the fact in this case the Florida stand your ground law does not apply. Zimmerman put himself into a position that he underestimiated he challenged an individual that was his better. He created the senario forcing Martin to defend himself then killed Martin and claims justification Zimmermans life was not in jepordy. Fact that sanford PD trying to cover itself is too obvious, how do you tell a witness the peson screaming for help survived the attact and tell the witness what you heard was wrong? it was not who you heard screaming or pleading for help? Martin was killed not far from his fathers home indicating Martin was heading home when confronted. If this goes the route of saying Zinmmerman was justified then a burglar who shoots a homeowner would be able to claim the same I killed him in self defense cause he attacked me, and would be justified. As here you have a non aggressor only becoming aggressive after provoked, in defense of himself, so why could a thief not claim the same. Cause it seems reguardless of the actions even if you are the aggressor and initiate combate you can change to the defensive end and kill your prey then say it was self defense, so what if I initiated the confrontation, so what if I did not back off, so what I did not wait for proper authorities to arrive. If this is justified then it is being said we should return to the days of being able to carry firearms in a side holster and return to the days of dueling where the faster will prevail. This case is a mockery of the stand your ground law as this law clearly does not apply here, as to Ken Trout who refers to web page for clarifcation maybe your right you do need to look at the facts. What would you do if you where persued? what would you do if your on your way home being followed and confronted? would you not fight? or lets say the unplausable story given that Zimmerman was confronted after stalking, would you not defend yourself? would you not stand your ground when threatened? Martin did just that and instead was killed, Murderd yet you think the Stand your ground rule should apply to the initiator of the confrontation. This is todays ignorance, Zimmerman was not near his home, Martin was.

I don't know about this but I have seen people brought into custody before and they never let you walk on your own,Not without being lead into the police station. Where George walked freely on his own (meaning that a cop always have a hand on them,even if you are not guilty of anything) George walks into the building like he is one of them (c'mon George, this way. Here let me get the door for you.) They never let you loose or turn their back on the one in cuffs. He just walks behind the police. That was when the Sanford police should have been doing their job. Why or for whom they didn't do their job is for speculation. But they made absolutely sure justice will NEVER be served because all the evidence is gone.

What we are left with is political expediency. The prosecutor will do her best not to look stupid in the face of the FBI investigation. The FBI will determine that the Sanford Police did not collect evidence. From a legal standpoint George should probably walk. No evidence=no conviction. At the same time the only real justice is that George will have to change his name, address, job and everything else he was when he murdered an unarmed kid. He'll have to look over his shoulder the rest of his life.

Exactly, I am white living just south of Detroit. Hoodies are worn by males of any race, but mostly by gang bangers or wannabes. Zimmerman can't get a court-appointed attorney until he is arrested & charged. If he wants to have an attorney before that, he will have to either find someone to work pro-bono (free) or find a way to pay one.

Here's the thing: the justice system didn't do its job. Police brought Zimmerman in wearing handcuffs but apparently were ordered to let him go home that night (still packing).

On their own, Trayvon Martin's parents were not able to interest the Sanford Police Department into thoroughly investigating their son's killing. When they were finally able to get the 911 tape made public, the tape revealed that Zimmerman was following Martin-- not the other way around. This was at least enough evidence to question why there was not more of an investigation of the death.

As of today, Zimmerman is not involved with the justice system. He hasn't been arrested or charged with anything. The only reason the case has been reopened is the public outcry following the release of the 911 tape. Until that point, the decision had already been made, and that decision was not to bother finding out all the facts.

Folks...As a nurse I am struggling with Zimmerman's story regarding his severe head injury...what is it his lawyers are calling It? Shaking baby syndrome?? Really? Had his head been as injured as they say, if at all, the ambulance on the way to get him for the hospital would never have been cancelled. There are liability issues here for them not to take him to the hospital had he experienced severe head trauma. He would have had tests done, been observed for brain swelling and more. Remember Natasha Richardson? The detective who questioned him at the scene didn't believe his story. He saw what the guy looked like.

Lastly, my son is a police officer. Had a police officer done this he would have been placed on administrative leave, gun taken away, and a full/complete investigation done. As it is, this civilian was able to walk away that night with his gun in tow, go home to sleep in his warm bed while Trayvon lay dead in a cold morgue. What's wrong with this picture?
