My guess is that they have realized that Zimmerman is a lying sack of @!$%# and do not want to damage their reputations by trying to defend him. Zimmerman changed his story so many times that nothing he says can be taken at face value. He knows he did something wrong and has been slowly modifying and crafting his story to try and keep his ass out of prison. The special prosecutor chose not to submit the case to the grand jury because they did not want the rednecks on the grand jury refusing to indict and making it impossible to bring Zimmerman to trial. The special prosecutor knows that regardless of what ever else happens, there will need to be a trial in order to prevent accusations of a cover-up and riots breaking out. It is time that they arrest Zimmerman and let the judicial system do it's job. The more time that goes by, the more time the "witnesses" will have to rehearse their stories. I am sure that Zimmerman and his buddies have been in touch with these "witnesses" already to get their stories straight.

Thats where he was when the video of him getting out of the cop car (with supposedly no wounds on the back of his head -which turned out to be false) at the police station. But they let him go a short time later after they concluded his actions were justified. Not for nothing...the case was investigated once already. Zimmerman hasn't changed his story so far. His lawyers said they believe he is not guilty of a crime. But if you are unable to speak with your client, and your client does things against your best advice, you have no choice but to withdraw. I doubt his nose broke itself, nor did the back of his head injure itself, so something had to happen. What? None of us know. But what we should all know from so many of the people posting about what should be done in this case, punishment wise anyhow, is that society has made absolutely no progress in the thousands of years it has been trying to figure out how to deal with controversies. Change the names and locations here and you could just as well be talking about the Salem Witch Trials for pete's sake.

My whole problem with this case is this... why didn't he listen to the 911 operator? He was told not to follow and he did. If he was doing neighborhood watch, why did he have a gun, when he was not supposed to? And as for his lawyers being on tv, they are correct to resign seeing that he won't listen to him. Why do I have the feeling that this is the way he deals with his father, not listening and going off. Personally, I would not go running to the media, be it Sean Hannity or Nancy Grace. I would listen to my attorneys.

Kent, the cops almost always handcuff anyone they transport. There is nothing abnormal about that at all. And I think the facts were known by the investigating officers fairly rapidly, probably within hours, after the shooting.

Sandie, if people were searching for you, some of whom have threatened you with violence, would you simply sit on your porch and wait for them? Of course not. You'd seek to protect yourself, as you should, as Zimmerman should. How about before you determine his sentence you wait to see if the investigation reveals any crime at all, and then wait for a trial to determine guilt. Just a thought.

For the same exact reason a redneck in Texas named Joe Horn gunned down two men in Feb 2009 as\after 911 operators told and was telling him not to go outside... he had a long back and forth with the operator as he was being told not to leave his home... AND he was heard on recordings telling the two men that they "...were dead..." just before he shot them both. His next-door neighbors house was being robbed, no threat to him at all.. hell the cops arrived just as he shot the last man.

If any of you read the previous "event reports" taken by the Sanford police department regarding the DOZENS of reports that Zimmerman had called in to 911 before this tragic event occurred, this nutcase went so far as to chase a couple in their car so that he could get their license plate number to report them for no child restraints. Really? How smart is it to chase someone with children in the car who you know to be unrestrained? Luckily he didn't kill anyone at that time. Most other "reports" were him stating that there were "suspicious looking black men" in his neighborhood (for those of you who think he's not racist, never once did he mention any "suspicious white men". And to top it all off, Trayvon Martin STOOD HIS GROUND while being chased by a man with a concealed weapon that he wasn't allowed to carry as the head of his neighborhood watch. And what did he get for standing his ground? Murdered. Zimmerman was clearly told on the 911 tapes NOT to chase Trayvon, which he ignored and did anyway (he can be heard panting while he runs on the tape). So what if he got his nose broken? He was chasing someone he had no evidence against because "these a**holes always get away".

Let's get a couple of facts out there that are being glossed over by everyone in the media and the race baiters. Trayvon Martin was a 6'2" football player who just happened to be 17 yrs old. If he did in fact break George Zimmerman's nose, that would be considered felonious assault. If he then began hitting Zimmerman's head into the ground, that would be considered attempted murder. The law allows a person to use whatever means necessary to defend their lives against an attacker. Had Trayvon Martin survived the shooting, and Zimmerman had sustained the injuries that he claims to have sustained (an EMT incident report would indicate if any injuries were treated), Trayvon Martin would've been arrested, tried and in all likelihood convicted for a felony AS AN ADULT. While it is certainly possible for someone who has been fatally wounded to be capable of felonious assault, or even murder, the facts remain that anyone who is incapacitated with a single shot is not likely to do so. Therefore, the likelihood of Trayvon Martin breaking George Zimmerman's nose and banging his head into the ground AFTER being shot is unlikely. Therefore, if the EMT's report, and the eye witness both support Zimmerman's account, not only should Zimmerman be acquitted, no charges should even be filed. The initial investigation took HOURS, not a couple of minutes. Officers questioned Zimmerman for HOURS about what happened and his story never changed. Since his account was supported by an eyewitness and forensic evidence, he was not arrested or charged. I realize that facts and law won't sate the blood lust of the race baiters, but that's the law.

Now if you want to make the law be what the New Black Panther's spokesman was spewing in that they wanted a life for a life and an eye for an eye, fine. Just be careful what you ask for. Considering the ratio of blacks killing whites to whites killing blacks, the losers in the vigilantism sweepstakes will probably be the blacks and Hispanics. Of course if we started, irregardless of race, stringing up murderers, rapists and child molesters in the public square like they used to, we probably wouldn't have most of the crime that we currently have. Likewise the "wild west" would've probably been better classified the "Mild" west in those towns that had vigilantes. Not to mention that one cowboy from that era in his 1934 biography said "That there wasn't any of this calling a person a name with a smile on your face back then. How ANYBODY can identify with and defend George Zimmerman is beyond me. If George Zimmerman ACTUALLY believed Trayvon was doing anything, he could have called 9-1-1 and let the police handle it. If George Zimmerman had stayed in his car and kept his gun in his pants, Trayvon would be alive and George Zimmerman wouldn't be in all the trouble he's in today. No matter what happened after Zimmerman got out of the car, it wasn't George Zimmerman who was crying for help and pleading for his life. If it was any of your children who had died under these circumstances, you'd be calling for justice just as loudly as the Martin family and MOST of America is.

I can only hope that judges and lawyers are able to sift them out. According to Zimmerman's testimony, an eyewitness account, and forensic evidence Trayvon Martin did assault Mr. Zimmerman and as such Mr. Zimmerman did have every right to use lethal force to defend himself.

Travon was using STAND YOUR GROUND against an assailant who was coming at him with a gun, putting his life in danger. Thus Travon had the legal right to attack Zimmerman, under the STAND YOUR GROUND law.

1) The majority of those who are posting his innocence were the very same ones posting about how guilty Casey Anthony was before her trial...this type of action/reaction is called "hypocrisy"

2) The majority of citizens in this nation (and even the world now) are not stupid and are quite capable of calling BS when they hear it and see it

3) Having your lawyers leave you hanging out to dry because you refuse to follow their advice (remember they are the ones with the law degree and the experience in representing clients ) speaks untold volumes about George Zimmerman. He apparently has great difficulty paying attention when told NOT to do something, or he has a problem with authority figures, or he simply believes he knows more than anyone else and is going to do things his way, no matter the outcome

naughty: that's the thing about the FL stand your ground law, it is a defense, as in you can claim self-defense AT TRIAL. That is all the family of this kid wants, a trial. They would probably be happy just to have a judge look at all the evidence and decide that the action was justified. As it stand right now, a few cops and a prosecutor made a decision on the night of the incident without all of the evidence.

Because of the publicity, the police chief who could have made a decision to make an arrest and the prosecutor, who could have requested a warrant for an arrest, had that ability taken out of their hands.

IMO, these attorneys did the smart thing. Zimmerman is a lose cannon. He's likely to say or do something which they will be unable to defend before a judge. Attorney's have a responsibility to go before a judge and inform the judge when they become aware that their client is not listening to instructions to appear.

The fact that they have not been paid is also a huge factor. Particularly when the client has set up a website to solicit money to supposedly pay them. Bad enough to be defending a plausable case of self defense, another thing entirely when set up a fraudulent money scheme and you decide to stiff your lawyer out of the money.

There is no evidence to suggest that Mr. Zimmerman assailed or threatened Mr. Martin pr his life prior to the shooting.

By law: The degree of force used in self-defense must be proportional to the threat perceived, and the threat perceived must be something that would place a reasonable person in fear of death or great bodily harm.

A reasonable person would perceive a significant fear of death if: a stranger slowly started following you in a car, then stopped the car, got out of the car with a loaded gun, preceded to follow you on foot with a loaded gun, without having any authority to pursue you with a deadly weapon.

Thus, Travon Martin was within legal capacity to use a significant degree of force (assault) to protect himself from an armed, unknown man, displaying predatory characteristics.

A reasonable person would view an armed man, stalking you at night, as a significant threat to life or bodily harm.

Again, if you were walking down the street, and a vehicle slowed down to follow you... then stopped... and an armed man emerged to follow you on foot... you would react be defending yourself. In fact, the "stand your ground" law is based around the idea that you will NOT call 911... instead you will "stand your ground". Thus, in Florida, according to that law, Travon had legal right to "stand his ground" against an unknown, armed assailant.

Hindsight is always 20-20. What "should" have happened does not change the fact of what "did" happen. Zimmerman DID follow Travon in a car. Zimmerman did ignore 911 dispatch. Couple of things seems a lot of you have missed.

Trayvon was taken to Sanford so his father could straighten him out. Another article made this statement.

Trayvon was a teenager(a personality with attitude) and Jock(another personality with an attitude). Someone approached him and he started with, "What are you following me for?" according to his girlfriend. To me that sounds like he is defensive already. The call was cut off so the girlfriend does not know what happened after, or she is not saying.

Trayvon was not a child. Get over the fake pictures that mommy put up to win support. He was a 6'3" athlete. If he wanted to run from Zimmerman he could have easily.

You want to know if your suspicious, this is for everyone that asked, go to a neighborhood your not known, walk around with your hoodie up. See how many people stare. Or if you head into the wrong neighborhood, see if someone start shooting. You want to think about why someone would think a person wearing a hoodie was suspicious, his clothing made him stand out. You want to think about this, take any neighborhood in the world. Dress in a manner that is not normal for that area, a suit and shades in a rural area. People will notice you.

Trayvon was suspended from school, for a third time. Think about that, yes each time it was for something that could not get him expelled, but it could hamper his chances of getting a scholarship. So if Zimmerman had said, let me check about this. Calling the cops to check out his story could very possibly make his chances for getting a full ride to college impossible. You think that might make someone attack.

How about this. Zimmerman is actually guilty of doing all the evil things your saying he must have done. That Trayvon was completely innocent of anything wrong. How do you prove him wrong?

Trayvon's mom lost my respect the second she attempted to copyright her son's name and some of the slogans that the rallies are using. Zimmerman may well being in police protection for all we know. How about those shots fired at police near the scene of Trayvon's death. You think that is just some random punk shooting off a gun. No its someone interfering with the investigation.

For the record, Zimmerman was taken to the station, he turned over his weapon at that time. Since everyone thinks Zimmerman's father is protecting his son, by interfering with the investigation, please provide the evidence that Zimmerman called his father during the time after the shooting, and before the police got there. How about if he did it at the police station. Show everyone that call record, since the police would have it on record. Or did someone else make the call, then there would be a record of it.

That is the entire point. A reasonable person would assume that a strange man following you at night is a threat, and thus defend themselves. Travon was within his right to defend himself.

It's funny. I had a friend who was defending Zimmerman, so I asked what would go through her head if she were walking home and a car slowed down and started to follow her. She commented that she would be scared. I then asked what she would think if the car stopped, a man got out, and started to follow her on foot. She said that she would freak out, thinking he was going to rape, mug, or murder her. I asked if she would feel her life in danger, she said yes. When I pointed out that THAT situation is literally the exact same thing that happened to Travon, she came around and agreed that it is understandable he would defend himself.

The fact is, at the very least Zimmerman is guilty of manslaughter. He was the predator, his actions resulted in a the victim fearing for their life. The victim initiated the flight or fight response and decided to fight... which is human behavior. Zimmerman, as the predator, then killed the prey who was defending himself.

You do not get to scare someone into a flight or fight response, then kill them and get away with it. If that is legal, then it's open season on anyone you do not like. Just scare them to the point where they fight back, and kill them.

It is not criminal to ask somebody what their business is. They don't have to answer, but it is legal to ask. It is not criminal to run away if fear is in the heart. The point of criminality begins with a punch being thrown. That is assault and battery. Only Presidents and Kings have the legal authority to fight first based upon suspicion or fear. You are wrong in the way you are looking at it. The fact that Zimmerman had a gun or followed someone who he thought was trying to committ a crime is not illegal. If Zimmerman questioned Martin, that is not illegal. If Zimmerman attacked him, that is illegal and throws out self defense and stand your ground. But that is most likely not what happened.

If Martin didn't like Zimmerman following him and confronted him verbally about it, that is not illegal. If Martin didn't like Zimmerman following him and decided to jump him from behind or after confronting him verbally, that is illegal. In that second choice, choosing to become physical, Martin would have given Zimmerman the perfect self defense and stand your ground defense. In our legal system, Zimmerman would walk if it doesn't cave to mob rule.

I'm a reasonable person. I may have felt threatened. But ccording to Zimmermans testimony he was walking back to his vehicle when Martin sucker punched him. Did Martin feel threatened while Zimmerman was walking away from him?

Rich-281385, I never said that George should not have a gun and I don't have a problem with the right to bear arms. What I have a problem with is the fact that he was carrying a gun, didn't obey a 911 operator and pursued Travyon. Also he is in violation of Neighborhood Watch rules not to carry a gun while on patrol. I saw and heard one of the reps/senators in Florida who said what George Zimmerman did is not in accordance to the stand your ground law. I also talked to a friend of mine who is a former criminal judge in Texas who has a problem with what Zimmerman did. He is a republican and very very pro-gun. I am waiting to talk to cops that I know to get their opinion as well.

I had to look at your other comments to determine what you were trying to say. It seems you ridicule everyone who mentions the new Black Panthers. Apparently you haven't watched the news. They have put a bounty on Zimmerman's head. Now I will admit, I never attended any of their meetings, but when it was splashed all over the news, I don't blame Zimmerman for going into hiding.

Again, I was not there the night Martin was killed, so I don't know who is innocent or guilty, but I know this country which I have defended with my life, does not put up with people putting bounties on other people's heads. And no one is guilty until proven so in a court of law. You don't seem to mind bounties and lynchings. But from reading your posts I am certain what kind of American you are.

Stepped out for a few minutes, but I think the biggest point here is that WE DON'T KNOW exactly what happened. We don't know if Trayvon "sucker punched" him or if any of what Zimmerman said happened is true. The Police have (or hopefully have) more information than we do. Forensics can figure out what happened where....if the gun was fired up at Trayvon or horizonatally from 10 feet away. Who screamed can be figured out and if Zim weighed 100 lbs more than T (which I doubt from the police station pics). Most of those things we don't know for sure. We can only guess. What we do know is that Zim followed the kid and assumed he was up to no good...."these guys always get away" He actually wasn't up to no good, whether he looked like it or not (hoodie and being black might be scary to some, but he clearly wasn't a threat to anyone, especially Zim with his 9mm). Sure, you're allowed to follow someone unless you've got a restraining order not to, but what do you expect to happen? You're eithergetting yourself into a fight or expect to scare the crap out of someone. The scared person could run or fight. You know you've got the gun, so how scared could you be? Carrying the gun, would you be screaming like a girl? Probably not. The dot's seem to connect that Zim instigated this. My bet is that he will walk if it comes to trial. Too much reasonable doubt. So, which do you want, riots now if you don't arrest, or riots later when Zim goes free? It's not good either way. I just don't want this type of justice in MY country. Much too easy for whack jobs to instigate fights, kill people and claim they were just defending themselves. Clearly Trayvon was not perpetrating anything when Zim started his pursuit. He is why we're in this argument. I lived in Los Angeles in April 1992 during the Rodney King riots. 20 years later and not much has changed. The stakes are as high as they were then. It's not going to end well.

I would like to share some information on how I come up with my conclusions in this case. It is my experience that when the media engage in selective reporting to facilitate the public coming to a particular conclustion that the media already know that conclusion to be wrong.

The media started off by repeatedly showing that picture of Martin from when he was 12 and calling him a "child." When I think of a child, I normally think of someone around age 5, couldn't hurt anyone if he wanted to. And that is the image the media were portraying. But that image is false. Trayvon Martin was not incapable of hurting anybody.

It was not really a surprise that it came out that Zimmerman was bloody at the scene and the police had him cleaned up. I have no doubt that the media knew about that for weeks, and sat on the information until such time as people would have their minds made up and it wouldn't give any reason to believe self-defense.

Consider the taped call. The media edited it to produce an image more to their liking. In the unedited version, one can tell that, when the operator told Zimmerman he didn't need to follow, he agreed to stop following and to meet the police at the mailboxes. But the damage of the edited tapes is already done and some people will keep asking Why Zimmerman continued to follow. He didn't. But so many people have made up their minds that they are not interested in facts.

I think that Zimmerman acted in self-defense. It's not that I think the evidence presented so far is conclusive. A good deal has still been left out. But... if it were not the case that the media are convinced that it was self-defense and want the public to discount the notion, they wouldn't be being so manipulative.

Watch the spin. When the media present a spin to make it look like a conclusion is obvious, that conclusion is wrong. The best tricksters never utter a false statement. It's what they don't say that you have to worry about.

That is why you can defend yourself if a man breaks into your house with a gun, but does not pull the trigger. Or if someone with a gun comes up behind you, and points it at you... you do not have to wait for them to pull the trigger.

If a man break into your house - a criminal act has been committed.

If somebody comes up behind you, and points a gun at you - a criminal act has been committed.

Remember, Zimmerman does not have to prove a thing. That's our way. He is assumed to be innocent. Somebody else has to prove he is not. Without proof, the presumption of innocence trumps any would be theories to the contrary. Mainly because the one theory, the man's story, has precedence.

This has been our way for a couple of hundred years. We should afford the same rights to Latino's in my opinion.

How about we get the facts? Was Martin trespassing where he was shot? Lets see a current picture of both Martin and Zimmerman. Why did Martin attack Zimmerman when he was afraid for his well being? What is Zimmerman's past legal history? Did he hate blacks? Did Martin hate Hispanics? What was his past legal problems? What is the crime history in this area that put homeowners on edge to form a watch group which included guns? What do Martin's friends have to say about his personalty, habits, etc. Seems that a real news organization might have answered these questions if they were interested in facts and not splitting the country apart. Lets focus on getting the economy back so the 1%ers can get to work and pay the way for the other 99%. Arrest the New Black Panthers who have put the bounty out on Zimmerman and lets move on. Can you imagine a couple crackers putting $10,000 out for J Jackson or big Al? Why don't we have leadership in this country that is concerned with our future?

Well, here is my opinion of what is happening. I believe that the prosecutors have tipped their hand to daddy judge that he will be arrested and charge. Daddy judge knows that the pencil line statements being made will not hold up in a trial. If he takes the 5th amendment or refuse to take the stand, we will have a 15 minute jury verdict of guilty. So the lawyers come out today and talk about post traumatic stress disorder, and him being unstable, and afraid of himself and the boogieman. Daddy judge knows that the lies they have been telling won't hold water. So they are foregoing stand your ground, self-defense, and are going to try for the insanity defense. When this happens, I hope the judge declares him insane, like the judge in Arkansas did to that murdering POS who raped and killed my 16 year old sister. He sentenced him to life in a mental institution without the possibility of getting sane. Now that's justice!!!

Well, you can see this one coming. The special prosecutor decides not to pursue Grand Jury investigation. Now she says there is new information that she will release within 72 hours. That means Friday.

It takes one minute to issue an arrest warrant for Zimmerman.

But instead - new info will be released by Friday. That will give everybody time to prepare for the weekend.

Do you think she is going to sit on this new information just so Zimmerman gets some extra breathing room? Or do you think that this new information is going to wait for the weekend for another reason?

It is true that the facts of the case and the guilt or not of the offender should be determined by the courts....oops there is no offender (at this point in time), no charges have been laid for one to defend and to not have to prove their innocence, at this point in time the only one who is being asked to defend their actions is Trayvon Martin and he is not taking the witness stand. All the finger pointing by the "bystanders" from both sides of the aisle are at this point in time a waste of breath.....however there are certainly some points to ponder......

• Look what happend when no charges were filed in the Rodney King Case
• The uncharged and still amongst us survivor of this incident father is a former Judge with local connections
• Was he given a law-full direction by a police officer not to pursue the "suspect" if he had there is certainly a case to answer
• Who is most likely to be sued and would have as paramount their own interests in not allowing this case to go to a trial.... The Association of the Gated Community (most certainly), The City of Stanton (yes), Seminole County (yes), the State of Fla. (possibly) and/or their insurers.... possibly some others. Why was Trayvon screraming over and over Help me? Because tough guy walked up to him, Trayvon says why are you following me ? His phone gets knocked to ground from his head, Zimmerman is trying to order the kid down or trying to take Trayvon down, Zimmerman pulls gun out and that is when ANYONE would start screaming for help, a gun pointed at you, Zimmerman shoots Trayvon, and is immediately found sitting on Trayvons back then getting up. Indieparty wasn't attempting to use the legal definition he was using hyperbole to exaggerate his weak point. Aside from that Zimmerman was part of the neighborhood watch and even if he wasn't there was nothing "unlawful" about following Martin to see what he was doing. A member of the neighborhood watch following someone is hardly a "threat...to do violence" so I'll stand by my claim that, at least initially, Zimmerman was not an assailant.

Sir I do not think you got the point, I have for days now seen Freeman1 talk(post) of things that might have happened (which I disagree to,)but they are his thoughts and they are a little far fetched for me to believe. I think it's interesting how you insist on ignoring the eyewitness accounts and the statements of Treyvons own family.

You know, Those witnesses who stated that no one ever saw the gun that Zimmerman was lawfully carrying under his "concealed" carry permit. Obviously Treyvon and the witnesses did not know Zimmerman was armed.

And those statement that his own relatives made that Treyvon had already gone into the Condo. So he was obviously not in danger at that point. Instead of calling 911 from the safety of home to tell them that some weirdo was following him, Treyvon decided instead to exit the residence and confront the Latino neighborhood watch volunteer who had previously followed him from a distance.

And you ignore those eye witness accounts who said that Treyvon "Sucker Punched" Zimmerman when he was not even looking while walking back to his vehicle calling 911.

You conveniently ignore the eye witnesses who sated that After Treyvon sucker punched Zimmerman, he then tackled him taking him to the ground, Straddled Zimmerman's chest Grabbed his head and began bashing his skull repeatedly into the concrete sidewalk.

Years ago, I was interviewed for a dispatcher job. They flat out said at the time that it was not law enforcement and we had no ability to tell anyone to do anything.

Without any witness or proof that Zimmerman threw the first punch, the stand your ground and self defense pleas will work. According to his statement, he was walking back to his vehicle. Trayvon's body was not close to Zimmerman's car. The location of this child's body proves that this racist followed his victim for a lengthy distance. You are a lover of lies. You can't trust any information for NBC, they altered the "911 Tapes" in an attempt to make the shooting a "Racial" incident. NBC was basically "race-baiting" in an attempt to make news where very little existed. Zimmerman should sue NBC for their conduct. IF Martin assaulted Zimmerman, then Zimmerman had the legal right to shoot the 6"+ muscular person threatening him. IF Martin was not a "threat" to Zimmerman, then Zimmerman did not have the legal right to shoot Martin. One has to remember that whether or not a person is a threat, in this case belongs to Zimmerman. The contact between Zimmerman and Martin was because of Martin's actions NOT Zimmerman's. If Zimmerman believed he was going to be harmed, he a a legal right to shoot. Martin should have left the area and area where he was not legally allowed to be because he was not a resident of that community. There are signs and warnings posted that the area was private and open to residents only. This was because of a rash of burglaries by Black Males in the area., that's why there was a Neighborhood Watch. Black Males breaking the law in the Community caused Zimmerman to be armed.

The standard for arrest, in every state is not "beyond a reasonable doubt" it's "probable cause".

Here is the standard for probable cause...

Apparent facts discovered through logical inquiry that would lead a reasonably intelligent and prudent person to believe that an accused person has committed a crime, thereby warranting his or her prosecution, or that a cause of action has accrued, justifying a civil lawsuit.

Here is what the FL Stand Your Ground Law says...

(2) A law enforcement agency may use standard procedures for investigating the use of force as described in subsection (1), but the agency may not arrest the person for using force unless it determines that there is probable cause that the force that was used was unlawful.

Here is your probable cause...

The 911 operator asked, "Are you following him". Zimmerman responded, "Yeah". The 911 operator than said, "Okay we don't need you to do that". Zimmerman than said, "Okay". Whether or not Zimmerman than listened, is a matter for the jury. The fact that he admitted that he was following him, is probable cause. As is the fact that he got out of his car in the first place.

Yes, Trayvon had a reason for being there. Zimmerman's job as neighborhood watch ended when he called 911. His job as a watchman (unofficial by the way, they weren't registered with the national neighborhood watch) is to WATCH and REPORT. He had done that. The fact that he continued following, watching, and eventually confronting (he did get out of the car and a scuffle did happen) is probable cause. Furthermore, it's in direct conflict with neighborhood watch rules, to carry a weapon, which is more probable cause. Whether or not that negates his claim of self defense is for the jury.

He was treated by the paramedics. That's all we know, besides the fact that he DIDN'T go to the hospital and that he had a minor abrasion on the back of his head. His claiming to be assaulted so bad he was afraid for his life, but didn't need to go to the hospital is probable cause, whether or not that could still constitute self defense is for a jury.

Zimmerman's claim that he was returning to his car, yet the body was away from the street is also probable cause, because it doesn't add up with him obeying the 911 operator. Nor does his claim to have been attacked from behind, add up with his having a broken nose. Whether or not they can make a claim that Trayvon attcked him from behind while he was walking back to his car, anyway, is for the jury.

The fact that Trayvon was unarmed, is also probable cause. Whether or not that matters, is for the jury.

Finally, in FL, if you're making a claim of self defense, the burden of proof shifts, and falls on the person making the claim...

The Criminal procedure allows a defendant to file a motion to have the judge dismiss the charges against him/her. That motion, which is filed by the criminal defense attorney, does not technically characterize the defendant's justifiable use of force as a defense to the charges. The criminal defense lawyer's motion will properly indicate that his/her client's use of force renders the defendant immune from prosecution on the charges. Because the justifiable use of force defense is an assertion of immunity rather than what is referred to as an affirmative defense, the motion is made prior to the trial, and the judge will weigh the relevant evidence to determine if the defendant was justified in using such force. The defendant has the burden of proof, but the standard is by a preponderance of the evidence (i.e. greater than 50%) rather than the typical beyond a reasonable doubt standard the State has in a criminal case.

You may believe the hearsay that corroberates Zimmerman's story and claim that this looks like a case of self defense, many disagree with you. But if you are right and that is true, than let Zimmerman be arrested (we have enough probable cause for that) and file his motion of self defense.

MSN broke a story yesterday about a 16 year old girl who was snatched off a train station platform in Sacramento, thrown in the back of a guy's truck, was held captive and raped 3 times over a 24 hr period. She reported the crime, was medically examined and DNA was found on her to tie the crime to a 37 year old guy named Frank Rackley. He was arrested, went to trial, she didn't show up because she was terrified of her attacker and the authorities put her in juvie to make sure she testified at the trial despite a CA law that says a rape victim CANNOT be forced to testify.

As she's a foster child and a ward of the state, prosecutors said that they suspended her right to freedom in the interest of public safety-if she doesn't testify Rackley could go free. However, there was another victim who was also raped--a prostitute--who they haven't put in jail to make sure she testifies. The child has pleaded to be let out, has offered through her lawyer to wear an ankle bracelet (with a steel band that can't be taken off) but authorities have refused.

Oh, and if you want to make this about color--the child is a minority and Rackley is a 37 year old white 200+ pound career criminal who the victim identified by the huge swastika tattooed on his chest and the other Neo-nazi symbols and slogans tattooed on him. And the child is terrified of testifying against him because even if Rackley went to jail his neo-nazi buddies could attack her after the trial is over.

Where is everyone's outrage over this miscarriage of justice? How is this traumatized child going to start to heal when she's locked up with other sexually violent kids, strip-searched on a regular basis, was even accidentally pepper-sprayed by guards trying to break up a fight between two other girls? Amanda, that does indeed sound horrible. I believe the victim is 17, and she failed to show up at a preliminary hearing in February. I'm confused because why would anybody be forced to testify anyway? There are plenty of mobsters who found the state had problems providing credible witnesses.

When you call 911 to describe someone suspicious they ask some of the following questions. I find it very interesting that numerous DA's looked at the evidence and passed on pressing ANY charges. Now 7 weeks after the fact I'm supposed to believe they have a "smoking gun" all of sudden. Evidence that supports second degree murder?? Possible yes. Likely, NO.

This DA reminds me of the Duke Lacrosse DA who pressed charges and gained media attention all for his personal political gains. That DA is in jail now I believe.

George - the only rational people here have reserved judgement for if/when this goes to trial and more facts are released. Even then we all know the truth will be manipulated by each side. This unfortunate event has proven we are not much closer to becoming a color-blind society than we were 50 years ago. That's the real tragedy here - realizing just how much racially fueled hatred we all have for each other on all sides. In the grand scheme of things if I get hit by a bus tomorrow the world will be no different, just as almost any one life is but a blip on the radar...but when you have millions of people at a cross-roads of sorts you'd hope we would all work together towards a greater acceptance and understanding. I was willing to gve Zimmerman the benifit of doubt when he claimed he was calling for help, but when it was determined that it wasn't Zimmerman screaming for help on those 911 tapes I just had to shake my head. Why lie about something like that? Did he think there was no way to find out? And since he lied about that what else did he lie about? And if he's such a good person, like his freinds and family insist, why hasn't he offered condolences to Trayvon's family? A good person with a good heart who didn't mean to kill anyone would at least do that.

Self Defense is not a crime and this is what is the only thing that I find sort of scary about the whole thing. I am not exonerating Zimmerman, the prosecutor might have found something in which will make it possible to charge him with manslaughter, but what galls me is everyone jumped to the conclusion that this guy executed a black kid with no evidence out there to say as such, and that the sole witness to the incident in question back's Zimmerman's account. I also like how the race baiting Jackson ignored that Chicago has a major issue with black on black crime now. A month ago 49 black folks were shot in one weekend, 12 in one 24 hr period, with I believe 11 deaths. Why wasn't Jackson in his hometown trying to talk about the end to the violence within the black comunity, which by the way is way more deadly that white on black crime. Like I said before, we don't have all the fact yet, til this prosecutor gives us more info, but if all we have to go on is what is out there now, I think Zmmerman does deserve some benefit of doubt that he killed Trayvon in cold blood and not self defense. If he's gonna run, Israel's his best bet - there was a story I remember 10 or so years ago about some young man in Maryland who murdered somebody, then fled to Israel, where, due to some right-of-return law or whatever, he couldn't get extradited back to the US.

Long and short of it, instead of facing potential capitol charges or life without parole, he was tried in Israel where the maximum penalty is 20 years and one serves only a fraction of that before qualifying for parole.

Unfortunately, by going Public the Prosecutor is going to have almost an impossible job because the Defense can claim "Tainted Evidence" for anything after Martin's Parents went Public saying "Arrest and Conviction" as a Presumption of Guilt; and not "Detention and Investigation" as Innocent until Proven Guilty (from the Investigation(s), then Charged based on the Evidence); all the Defense has to indicate is that the Investigators heard "Arrest and Conviction" as a Presumption of Guilt (Pre Justice, aka Prejudiced) and all their hard work is negated (not admissible as Evidence in a Court of Law as "Tainted Evidence".). And by Due Process of Law, "Innocent Until Proven Guilty Beyond a Reasonable Doubt", any evidence supporting the "Accused" (the proper term unless you want Lawsuits filed, as Defamation of Character) must be negated by the Prosecution Beyond a Reasonable Doubt as part of the Rules of Evidence.

And that is only the tip of the iceberg as to how going Public has made the Prosecutor's Job and subsequent Investigations almost impossible.

When his own attorneys publicly announce that they won't represent him anymore, then you really have to wonder what the attorneys know that we don't. Zimmerman was nowhere near 250 lbs. He was back five years ago. But the media have refused to use relatively current pictures of either person. The reason being is that Martin would be the more physically intimidating individual.

Irregardless of who weighed what and who was following who, the ability to make a conviction on the law rather than mob rules comes down to what question. Can they prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Zimmmerman, who had verifiable multiple injuries that had to occur before the single gunshot that is the only injury to Martin, threw the first punch? If they can not prove that Zimmerman threw the first punch, they have to accept his self defense plea.

And then setting up his own website? They have to defend EVERYTHING that moron says or does, and by talking to the press, he's being his own worst enemy. Don't think that FOX didn't record that phone call, and that the prosecution won't obtain a copy of it to use against him. Hey L in Princeton, I don't know for sure that Zimmerman is completely innocent. But that isn't really the question is it? Not in our legal system. We don't put people in jail because we are not 100% sure they are innocent. Rather, our system is to declare them innocent unless we are sure beyond any reasonable doubt that they are guilty.

Since the whole issue is that it boils down to one thing, who threw the first punch, and no witness has come out saying they saw Zimmerman punch Martin who had no injuries from punches, it is going to be hard to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Zimmerman threw that first punch.

Some media outlets implied Zimmerman followed Martin after the police told him not to. From what I have read, this may not be the case at all. From the time Zimmerman called the police, Martin had plenty of time to get to his father's fiance's house but instead doubled back to confront Zimmerman. Before reaching a conclusion, everyone should wait until all the facts come out. If you don't, you are being used as a pawn in a race baiting game.

Did you know NBC showed a video of Zimmerman that they "doctored" to hide injuries on the back of his head. Why do you suppose they would do this other than to undermine Zimmerman's story? I hope Zimmerman sues their ass off if he is exonerated.

And to the people who are acting like Zimmerman is hiding from the law, you are clueless. Zimmerman has cooperated with the police fully and has yet to be charged with anything. Sorry folks, a 911 operator is not the "police". They don't have law enforcement power any more than someone taking calls for PBS or Jerry's Kids fundraisers.

I wondered from the first about stand your ground. Seems like that would ony apply on your ground, in your home, or at least on your property. Didn't this happen on a public street? Doesn't look like it would be a stand your ground case.

Could you at least research the case? It was dispatcher with no legal authority. I agree he should of ceased following the kid at that point, but he didn't disobey a cop...and even if he did, who died and made the cops infallible? Lat I checked they shoot plenty of unarmed black people themselves!

CET2011 & bubba-1946427 - guess you and a bunch of others here haven't listened to the 911 tape. The tape begins with Zimmerman telling the 911 operator that there had been a number of break-ins in his neighborhood and that there was a suspicious guy acting strange. Now, since 911, the gov't and HLS has said, if you see someone or something suspicious - report it! Zimmerman was doing just that!

Zimmerman was in his truck, on the phone, giving the 911 operator the location, description of the individual, answering the operator's questions. He tells the 911 operator that the individual is coming toward the truck and he has his hand in the waistband of his pants and it looks like he has something in his hand. Then Martin started to run - no provocation at all from Zimmerman - he was in his truck on the phone!

On the 911 tape you can here Zimmerman get out of his truck and start to chase Martin - still on the phone. The 911 operator almost immediately asks Zimmerman "are you following him"? and Zimmerman replied yeah. The operator tells Zimmerman "we don't need you to do that" and Zimmerman clearly replies "okay" and you can hear him almost immediately stop running. For the next two minutes on the tape you could hear that he wasn't running, or even walking, he was conversing with the 911 operator the whole time. So Zimmerman DIDN'T chase Martin down.

As a side note, think about it - Martin was 6'3" and a highschool football player, Zimmerman is 5'9" and not an athlete. Zimmerman was definitely NOT going to catch Martin!

Anyways...at 3:40 on the 911 tape Zimmerman says he doesn't know where the kid is. He was still on the phone with the 911 operator! He wasn't chasing anyone! So, this BS that Zimmerman chased down Martin, confronted him and shot him for no reason is just that - BS!

Martin was staying at his father's GF's home, which was at the far end of the row of Condos, down the walkway from where he was shot. The place where Martin was shot was only a short distance from a purpendicular sidewalk (which leads to where Zimmerman's truck was parked) at the head of the row of Condos.

Looking at the layout of the complex (you can google map it), and, knowing , from the 911 tape, that Zimmerman didn't know where Martin ran to, a likely scenario is that Martin had run to the Condo where he was staying, then, saw Zimmerman walking back to his truck, and went up the walk to confront Zimmerman.

But, hey...I'm just going by the actual 911 tape, not the made up and distorted crap that has been put out by the media. But, it's obvious that people have their minds made up and don't want to be confused with the FACTS! As I said before, Martin could easily out-run Zimmerman. Martin at least made himself a part of the confrontation between the two - if not innitiated it! Martin went out for some Iced-tea & Skittles. He got them. If he had went back to the Condo, where he was staying, after he ran from Zimmerman, and stayed there, he'd still be alive. He had a choice, but, he made the wrong one! But, a lot of people want a rope around Zimmerman's neck and what actually happened doesn't matter.

Jed.. Well said. I haven't heard it mentioned as to how many times Trayvon had visited this house. Was he familiar with the area? Was it all new to him? If he's taking a shortcut back and was unfamiliar with the houses he could have looked to be acting very strange by studying the back patio areas looking for recognizable items like a patio table, a grill, furniture etc. At the same time looking in windows for kitchen wall colors or anything that he could recognize. These would be natural things to do if one is unsure of the house he's looking for but would look very stange to an onlooker. All the houses look almost identical to me.

I listened to the 911 tape where Zimmerman called in about a suspicious black man (his 46th call to 911 with multiple reports of suspicious looking black men). When the 911 operator asks Zimmerman if he is following, he does reply "yes" and when she tells him not to do that, he SAYS "OK", but you can still hear him panting and running during the call. She then asks him several times where the officers should meet him, and he finally says "have them call me when they get here so I can tell them where I am" so that he can keep on following Trayvon. If he wasn't planning on continuing to follow, why couldn't he tell her then that "I'll meet them at the Clubhouse" as was suggested once or "I'll meet them at the mailboxes" as was mentioned another time. He wouldn't say where to meet because he had no idea where he'd be when they got there.

Why don't we get Hannity to tell us what deal he has cut with Zimmerman? His lawyers told us he has contacted Hannity at Fox??? Exclusive on his side of the story? Raising funds for his legal ? Being financial supported by the NRA through Fox? This case has lost all proportions of saneness. On both sides I think it should stop being reported. We don't spend this much coverage on any other killings in our country and we allow each group to capitalizes their own agendas and lose the fact that a child died. Sad.

Salient _known— facts in the case: Zimmerman was playing vigilante. Got out of his car and started following someone for no reason except his own fantasies. Cops told him not to.

Kid was not armed. Kid was not doing anything more suspicious than walking. Kid ends up dead.

Zimmerman _claims— grievous, life threatening wounds forced him to kill kid.

Homicide investigator does not believe him, recommends he be arrested. Higher ups in corrupt "law" enforcement regime overrule him, cite stand your ground law (opinion: demonstrably one of the stupidest laws ever passed). Fact: Higher ups cannot know whether stand your ground applies or not. Homicide investigator more likely to know, recommends arresting Zimmerman.

Zimmerman's grievous life threatening wounds do not require a visit to hospital. Grievous life threatening wounds cannot be seen on security cameras when Zimmerman taken to cop shop. Zimmerman can be seen to be acting normally.

FACT: simply on the basis of known facts, without taking into account any audio analysis or video enhancements, or any patterns of behavior, or possible racism, Zimmerman should have been arrested and charged with manslaughter as the homicide investigator said.

This entire thing blew up because the higher ups in law enforcement failed to do their jobs. Of all the actors in this mess, those higher ups seem to be the ones actions were most likely prompted by racism. The basis of their decision seems to have been: If a lighter skinned guy kills a darker skinned guy and then claims self-defense, it must be true. Therefore, we will overrule the investigator on the scene. Besides the other guy doesn't disagree, being dead.

Those of you who defend Zimmerman without knowing what you are talking about really don't deserve to be Americans. You should be deported to Mexico. You could sneak back in and get one of those fantastic, high paying jobs the illegals are stealing from good citizens.

Dispatch & Zimmerman then discuss where 2 have the police meet him, which initially it was by the mailboxes & thats where police would see his car, then GZ says, "have them (police) call me when they get here on this number & I will tell them where I am at". Why did he leave instruction for the police to call him when they arrived instead of waiting by the mailboxes?

This man is a coward and wannabe. He shot and killed an unarmed kid. If he really knew what he was doing he would have disengaged from the confrontation as any well educated gun owner would have.
