Report: Bar hand questioned over missing Fort Bragg soldier

More than 100 police officers and soldiers searched the woods near Fort Bragg Wednesday, looking for clues in the disappearance of Army private Kelli Bordeaux. NBC's Mike Viqueira reports.

A bar hand who is a registered sex offender has been questioned twice by police in connection with the disappearance of Fort Bragg soldier Kelli Bordeaux, according to a report.

Pfc. Bordeaux, 23, from St Cloud, Fla., disappeared after leaving the Froggy Bottoms bar late Saturday night in Fayetteville, N.C. She was reported missing Monday when she did not report for duty.

Police said they have found evidence that has them worried about her disappearance. They have not commented further.

However, ABC News 11 reported that Nicholas Holbert, a 25-year-old worker at the bar, gave the soldier a ride home but denied having anything to do with her disappearance.

Holbert reportedly said he dropped her off at the entrance of her neighborhood at her request.

"As soon as you drive into the entrance to Meadowbrook, she said stop right here," it quoted Holbert as saying. "So I stopped and she said, 'I'll walk home.' I said, 'Are you sure?' She said, 'Yeah.' I said I figured she didn't want me to know where she lived, or somebody was there and she didn't want to be seen together."

ABC News 11 reported that Holbert, who lives behind the bar, was questioned for a second time Wednesday by Fayetteville Police.

He told the station he believed he was being targeted because he has a criminal record. The station said Holbert is a registered sex offender and was convicted as a 16-year-old of indecent liberties with a 5-year-old child.

According to her Facebook page, Bordeaux has been married for two years to her husband, Michael Bordeaux, and she attended Valencia Community College.

A friend told WESH.com Kelli Bordeaux's husband recently moved back to central Florida from Fayetteville. A U.S. Army official said the couple were separated. Officers said the husband is cooperating with investigators.

This doesn't look good. I'm not ready to convict the bar hand yet but he needs to be fully questioned and looked at. This Woman is most likely dead, we know that but will they find her body is the million dollar question. I look forward to the day when at birth people have micro implants put in them that not only trace where that are at a given time with GPS locating technology but can also indicate exactly where they have been in the last 48 hours. Of course these devices would be optional and anyone that didn't want one could turn it down. I'm sure there will be something similar within a couple of decades.

Mrmedicinebox, How can something implanted at birth be "optional?" Are you kidding? You put Big Brother to shame - why didn't he think of that?

Oh, and what about our right to freedom? I kinda like that.

Wow... just, wow... You actually look forward to something like this. You represent the antithesis of the principles upon which America was founded. People like you ending up in government is what scares me. I'll bet George Orwell's 1984 was a fun read for you. Do you fondly read it every year at Christmas and send up a little wish to God?

You can judge him because of his past! He already has been judged, he is a sex offender and a criminal.

I'd judge him as a low life scum for offending a 5 year old!

This soldier should never have been left in a position to have to request/accept a ride home from a stranger. Soldiers are supposed to look out for each other. Her fellow soldiers let her down and now she is most likely dead. They shoud have been looking out for her and made sure that she got home safely. While I agree that you need evidence to convict someone, it is a little suspicious that this bar worker would offer to drive a complete stranger home when he lived behind the bar. I could understand if her place was on his way home or maybe even a little out of the way, but to get in your car and drive a complete stranger home when you have no other reason to even get in your car at all seems a little unusual.

As for the comment about tracking chips being implanted at birth, all I can say is you have got to be kidding me. This would be the height of big brother watching and invasion of privacy. I can not believe anyone in this country could support such a concept, let alone propose it. And how could you turn down something that is implanted at birth!!! The very idea goes against one of the main principles on which this country as founded - freedom from government tyranny.

I am not judging him because of his past, but I do want to know how the f**k the father of the 5 year-old he molested has not killed this sick piece of crap? He molested a 5 year-old and he is walking the streets at age 25. Good for him he didn't have traffic tickets or he would still be in jail. I mean, it was just a 5 year-old child. No need for harsh punishment or anything.

As sad as it is, we all know that Ms. Bordeaux will never be coming home. Prayers and sympathies for the families.

I look forward to victims getting justice. A sex offender working in a bar? Not good. Criminals should not be employed at places of easy prey. Period. Implanting mandatory GPS devices in convicted criminals is more like it. Protect the USA citizens by implanting the known criminals.

Time to change the rule of law. Guilty until you prove your innocent. Giving known convicted criminals protection over a law abiding USA American is a slap in the face to victims.

Im well aware of his past. I also find it revolting as anyone else. But with that being said, my point is people are so fast to bring out the gallows and start accusing him right away. If your already influenced by his past ( when he was 16, not sure how old he is now ) Then you could never be on a jury trial to give him a fair trial if charges are brought up on him. To convict this guy , you would need hard evidence, and so far from this story there is nothing other than him taking her almost home, letting her out where she requested, and telling the cops what she said. If something did happen to her, say she was raped and killed, then a thorough investigation would have to bring up some hard evidence of his DNA or fibers being on here in places it shouldnt be. Or her blood on his clothes or home , car , ect ect things like that.

As much as you want to already judge him for this event, you need to come back to fairness of our system and let it do its work.

ok, ok, i know the implanted chip thing is a huge violation of our freedom, but with all that's going on lately with people missing and NEVER being found, you gotta admit it would solve that quickly! I don't know that I would want a chip put in my a$$ at birth, but i gotta say, if I were this beautiful girl's parents, or it was my own child, that chip locating my child would sound pretty freaking awesome.

i truly hope they find this lovely girl alive but it would seem impossible after so many days : ( still hopeful though.

Why the hell do people say that there's a number of the beast and that it's 666? I've used that number many times to prove people what is said about it is a simple myth.

Do you ever actually do any research ? You can find out exactly why the number 666 is considered the number of the beast. Atleast knowledge yourself.

Sorry I don't study religion much anymore. Reason one is I lost interest because I don't need a religion to live. Reason two is because some religions overlap whatever they say if you catch my drift. And if 666 is the number of the beast then Ronald Wilson Reagan was the anti-christ. Where is my logic flawed with my last statement?

Guilty husbands (and ex-husbands) always cooperate with the investigation when it keeps the cops off their back. Only when they start getting pointed in their direction do they lawyer up and keep quiet except to claim innocence.

Put a chip in your leg and next time the sex offender will cut your leg before raping you. Whoever came up with the chip idea is not so smart. The chip should be inside the criminal's body, not the body of non-criminals.

                  #2.3 - Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:44 PM EDT

the chip idea wasn't in my post and i believe he was saying that it would be injected into everyone body and that everyone would be able to be tracked and located to confirm or refute alibis or to even get a suspect if there were no witnesses.

Along with Holbert, they need to look at the husband. I know the article said that he was cooperating with authorities, but that doesn't make him innocent of doing something. Central Florida is not a very long a drive from Fayettville, NC. On the other hand, why would anyone accept a ride with a stranger?

This bar hand live's behind the bar.. the police have every right to search his home without a warrant due to his back ground. get to it. If she is still alive and there is any chance I think it needs to be fast.

I think the police and judiciary would do well to not take advice from anyone on this thread, as none of them know a single thing about this case, other than what they read in the article, which is lacking detail. However, that will not stop the rush-to-judgement crowd, or the hang-em-high lynch mobs, or the various other fortune tellers that will pop up here later. So have at it.

Dick, she is still legally married, so she collects Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH). If she lived in housing on base, her entire BAH would be deducted from her pay. It doesn't cost the Government anything extra.

Imagine that...A convicted sex offender working at a bar where he has regular access to intoxicated young women. What a nightmare scenario.

I agree since sex offenders seem to be 1 group that can't be rehabilitated.

I was pretty sure that the police were still looking at this guy, and I was right. The more you condemm and try to one up your fellow posters, the more you reveal just how nasty you really are. It does not look good for this beautiful young soldier, and I am a mother of a beautiful blonde 21 year old Airman in the United States Air Force who is just recently moved to her base. This story hits very close to home for me, so why don't you shut the hell up already and find another story to spew your bull@!$%# comments on.

According to the article at the time of the incident he was 16...the victim was 5. Can you really classify a 16 year old as a pedophile without a psychiatric evaluation and historical data on other victims?

It is possible for a pedophile to be a sexual predator.

They should just drag him to his surely-awesome pad out back of the bar, put him on his knees, gun to his head, and say, "tell us where the body is, or you die here and now." Then when he leads them to the shallow grave where he put this poor girl, they take her OUT of it and put him IN it. Problem not soved, but future occurrences prevented at least.

She's truly gorgeous! I can see his fascination with her. We have no evidence at all that he did it though.

And unfortunately because our law enforcement and judicial system has gone CRAZY pegging everyone and their brother as a sex offender (even people who committed very small crimes that had nothing to do with sexually predative behavior.....Like, people who peed in public when they were drunk, slapped someone on the butt while in the bar, or just something that had nothing to do with sexual predators), because the term "sex offender" has become meaningless and ends up applying to most people who've pushed the envelope in any way.................NOW, that means nothing.

It used to be being a 'sex offender' meant truly you were prpobably a rapist or pedophile. Now, if you just do something stupid as a stupid joke when you're 16 as this guy did, or if you try to date someone that western society considers too young (but the rest of the entire civilized world doesn't), or any number of other things that have nothing to do with sexual predator..........Then you become a 'sex offender' in america.

But oh yeah - we are the sluttiest and most immoral country on earth by most standards. So it is kind of a pathetic double meaning -thats the USA - go flag!

I just have one thing to say. If someone slaps your butt (in the context you are talking about) and you don't INVITE them to do so, it IS a sexual violation and should have consequences. I have had my butt slapped unvited by some stranger, and it was an invasion of my personal space as well as a violation of my body. It's not "innocent" behavior. People who think there is nothing wrong with that have something wrong with THEM. Talk about a sense of entitlement; if things like this went unpunished there would be people running around all over the place doing who-knows-what. If you don't want to be charged with a sexual offense, don't commit an unwanted sexual act. Seems pretty simple to me.

I'm not defending pedophiles. anyone who has a sexual fascination or commits anything sexual against a child (someone TRULY a child - as in, defendant is an adult, and victim is 12 yrs old or something.......NOT just that the victim is in high school and in love w/their teacher).................should be labeled a sex offender.

i'm saying that by over-over-over-using the label 'sex offender', we diminish its meaningfulness. in the last 10 yrs especially , it has become virtually meaningless because too many crimes that really have little to do with conventional sex predators get the label.

                                                    #24.3 - Mon Apr 23, 2012 12:36 AM EDT

and yes, coMommy, if someone slaps your butt uninvited, th ey did something wrong. I AGREE WITH YOU.

you aren't really understanding my post. i'm not defending them, or saying they're right, or wahtever. i'm saying they're not SEX OFFENDERS. that is just stupid.

people who steal gum are not murderers. people who mug others are not computer hackers. i mean obviously we have to choose the right label for the right person. that guy who slapped your butt 1 time, is not a sex offender. he is something else, and needs punishment, but the label sex offender...realtors look at it when deciding which house to recommend. do i really care that a guy who slaped your butt lives in my zip code? NOOOOOOO
