Missouri mom: Kindergartner humiliated after being denied bathroom break

"You don't even treat a dog that way," said Lisa Skidmore, whose 6-year-old daughter was forced to sit in her own filth in her kindergarten classroom when her teacher forbade a bathroom break during a test. KYTV's Sara Forhetz reports.

A Missouri mother says her 6-year-old daughter was humiliated after she was denied a bathroom break in her kindergarten class and was forced to sit in her diarrhea during a test session at school.

"They didn't even bother trying to clean her up or anything. She still had poop, diarrhea poop, coming out the back, up her front, down her legs," said the mother, Lisa Skidmore of Washburn, Mo., told KY3-TV on Tuesday.

KY3-TV, an NBC News affiliate in Springfield, Mo., was first to report the story.

The incident happened at Southwest Elementary School in Washburn, Mo., where children were participating in the Missouri Assessment Program tests; the state standardized testing required by law.

While tests are not administered until the third grade, the child's kindergarten teacher was sticking to MAP testing guidelines in efforts to simulate the stringent rules to prepare students for what's to come, School District Superintendent Bob Walker told KY3-TV on Tuesday.

"Bottom line, we regret what happened," Walker told KY3-TV.

Walker, who was contacted by msnbc.com on Thursday, said he met with the child’s parents on Wednesday.

“From our view point, this is a confidential matter and in regards to the media, we want it to remain that way,” Walker told msnbc.com.

In earlier interviews, Walker said he instructed teachers to be more sensitive to situations that might arise during tests.

"I don't want this to happen to any other kid. That's the point of this: I don't want this ever happening,” Walker said, according to KY3-TV.

The child’s mother said she has asked school officials for an explanation and a policy change.

"They told me that the teacher had asked her to go to the restroom before testing time," Skidmore said, according to KY3-TV.

Skidmore says her daughter was forced to sit in the class for the remainder of test time, about 15 minutes, then she was called after the test, and it was a 20-minute drive to the school, according to KY3-TV.

No one helped to clean up her child, she said. A teacher, however, did give the child a trash bag to wrap around herself, Skidmore said.

"You don't even treat a dog that way!" Skidmore told KY3-TV.

Fired, arrested for child abuse, and put on the list of folks we don't allow within 1000' of a school. Is she still teaching that class?

What kind of heartless monster would make a child suffer in such a grotesque manner. Human descency and mercy are longer on the agenda of our soon to be communistic society. No test should ever supercede a childs right to go to the bathroom. This was a cold, heartless play by this excuse for a human being. They should be dismissed from the school and face child abuse charges. We favor and cherish Wildlife more than Human life in this country. I would hope that furthur actions be taken to prevent such a heartless and humiliating action from ever happening again.

scar tissue, are you an idiot?? More importantly it's very obvious that your only interaction with young children is through what you have read. Please stay away from mine. No child at the age of 6 should be put through that. And for the record no school in america does standardized tests in kindergarten. Assessments are not done through testing but teacher child interaction. And yes scar I know what I'm talking about with this one just had 2 go through that assessment.

There is no excuse for a teacher to shame a 6 year old child in front of other children in this disguisting and unhuman way she should of allowed the poor child to go to the bathroom someone should not allow the teacher to go to the bathroom when she needs to go and then when she craps or pees all over herself make her sit in it all day and then have the children laugh at her she should be fired and never be allowed to teach again in any school and if this was my child I would sue her and the school then make her eat her crap shes a piece of @!$%# not a teacher.

One way to eliminate things like this to happen again is to deny the teacher of any bathroom breaks and see if that goes over well? The problem with people that have a little authority start to abuse it and think they are all that and a bucket of chicken! Any authority figure that does this needs to be fired and never put in a place of authority again!

This child will never have peace in her town again. She will be teased over what happened and her name to go along with her incident; Skidmore. I'm not trying to be funny, but with what happened and her family name, kids will tease her for the rest of her days in that town.

As for the teacher, as much as we would like her to have to endure something as awful as this child did; it's not going to happen. Should she be fired from her job, well that should be considered.

But, most are more concerned with the teacher, when the one who will have to face possible hell for the rest of her life is that poor child.

I hope that her parents teach her how to overcome this incident and prepare her for what may come in the short future.

Wow, what a bunch of ass-holes. Saying the teacher needs to be fired or worse?!?! @!$%# all you morons. How many times does a kid say they need to use the bathroom but doesn't? None of you have any idea what the history is with this teacher or student. Could be a spot on teacher and a punk little kid always looking to get out of class. Could be a horrible teacher that finally got caught and a good kid. Story says so little that calling for a person to be fired is extreme. It was no doubt a bad call but be realistic.

How many of you would demand the heads of any teacher or faculty that would have cleaned up this little girl? Most you anal retentive bastards would be calling out pervert or worse if someone changed your 6 year old, do not deny it.

                It was a mistake.

Heartless, insensitive nut case that can't see whats going on here and defends the teacher for this! How would you like it if it was you that had to go to the bathroom!

Be Accountable, I think you need to check yourself bud. People aren't as upset with the teacher for denying the kid to go to the restroom as they are with the teacher making the kid sit there in soiled pants for that length of time. Infact the teacher refused the kid of going and cleaning her ownself up and made her sit there. That is why the teacher needs to be terminated. And you call other people anal retentive bastards??? check yourself!!

I don't care how many times or when she asked them to go use the restroom the girl had diarrhea and tell me which of you all can hold it when you have diarrhea. I would find a different school for my child to go to or teach them at home. Kids have it bad enough with bullinging and to have this happen. My heart goes out to this child.

I'm disgusted. The teacher should be fired and the school district sued. I have no problem making an example of this teacher. I realize teachers have a difficult job, I also realize that this experience is going to have a lasting effect on the child. Shame on the so-called adults.

So what, I @!$%# in my pants when I was a kid in school because a teacher didn't let me go. I think most people experience this before too. Nothing new here folks. @!$%# happens all the time.

At least in middle school and high school, if I begged long enough they would let me go only on one condition: I think it was a 5-10min stay after class or lunch time. Now that wasn't a bad deal.

That teacher should have enough common sense that if you have to go, you have to go, so make a little deal with that kid. Sheesh man.

The same thing happen to my daughter, but it was not during the test. The teacher told all the kids to go to the bathroom at the same time, but my daugher did not have to use it then, but about 30 minutes or so, she raise her hands to be excused and the teacher told her no. So she sat in class the whole time in wet jeans. I confronted the teacher and she said, "I would never do that, your daughter must have misunderstood me. I knew this teacher was lying, because if she ask to go to the bathroom and you see she is still sitting there, why didn't you say to my daughter, "didn't you hear me I said it's ok for you to go to the bathroom". But this will never happen again, I will make sure of that. I told her next time you ask to go to the bathroom and teacher tells you no, go anyway, and go straight to the office and have them to call your mother.

I agree completely with the advice. I would do the same if I was the parent. My child has the right to go. I am the parent. I would defend my child 100%. The teacher and the school can kiss my arse.

Unfortunately, this is nothing new. Most of the schools I attended had very strict bathroom rules. This was especially exciting when puberty hit and us girls started having periods in middle school. Teachers expected us to be able to run to our lockers in a packed hallway, then into a crowded bathroom, change pads, wash properly, and then make it to class on time-- with a load of books in our hands, by the way, because we weren't allowed to use backpacks during the day-- during a five-minute passing time. They also started restricting bathroom use during lunch because of (OH NO) graffiti, and then the excuse was, "You should have gone during lunch".

Apparently students just aren't supposed to have bodily functions at all, which is funny, because now that I'm in college I can go to the bathroom whenever I want, and the world hasn't ended yet. Public schools are run mostly by idiots and sadists.

I'd also really like to know why in the name of all that is holy a kindergartener was taking a standardized test. Nobody should be taking standardized tests, of course, they're complete rubbish, but it is especially heinous to me that they are forcing this on kindergarteners now.

So if have to "GO" and you get told no and "GO" and dirty yourself up and the teacher makes you sit in your waste, and you're humiliated. Then not only is your test performance going to suffer but so will the other students', because of the overwhelming stink which is distracting and the teacher does nothing but look stupid. It's a domino effect. Didn't the teacher pay any attention during her child psychology classes in college? This cold mechanical ice queen has no business educating young minds, she should get an "F" in job performance and a pink slip. And since this is Missouri how about ridding it of another piece of rubbish - Rubbish Limberger. You know, that obnoxious oxycontin-popping pinhead named "Rush" but should be called "Led Zeppelin" for all the hateful set-people-against-each-other hot air he spews and his lead - you know, he sits on it. Idiots like him have hijacked the AM dial and preached intolerance for too long. Hey, Earth Day is coming up. Does that put give any ideas? ; ) Have a great weekend, everybody!

well, this is what hell exists for, to punish this non human teacher in perpetuity. Shame on this school for not screening their teachers to determine that they have a mental disorder which caused them to make such a stupid decision. That would be negligence on the schools part. This i why we have lawsuits. I only hope this girl recovers from the humility. So much in the press these days about kids being buillied by kids at schools and than something like this happens from a teacher (someone they are to trust). Is it any wonder the education system in America is failing??!

My daughter had a kindegarden teacher who refusesd to let a little boy go pee after they gave them all water in cups to make sure their little brains were well hydrated. My child was told that day that if they say she can not go to the bathroom she is it oget up and go anyway and meet me at the principle's office. I have had this conversation with numerous teachers and that is just BS. There are sometimes when common sense has to over rule the stupidlty of some educators who think that they are God.

Good thing that was not my kid because I would have been in serious trouble for slapping the sh-t out of that teacher for being so damn stupid.

I was a teacher and principal for thirty five years and I used to tell the teachers to treat the kids how you would want your children treated. It seemed to work. In this case this teacher was way out of line. It not only exposes her for being cruel it says a lot about her common sense. Hopefully she is reprimanded and made to publicly apologize.
