What can a lesbian teach normal girls about life? The lesbian cannot and will not know anything about boys, men, dating, life's future or how to interact in society. She cannot be a life model for the girls. She can only show how to interact with other girls to be a lesbian. A lesbian represents less than 2% of the female population and should not be allowed to demonstrate why her tendencies should be a leadership model for girls.

The girl scouts need role models that are real women and girls who have experience and life's account of what it is to be a heterosexual as nature intended women to be.

Nature intended humans to be heterosexuals not homosexuals. As these were boy scouts, a group that she was helping out and participating with her own son, I'm sure there are a few things a lesbian might be able to help educate youngsters with. Can lesbians tie knots? Willing to contend they can... Can lesbians make pinewood derby cars? More than likely. Again, one's sexual orientation doesn't dictate the abilities of a person. Also, cub scouts are young, my own son is also a Tiger Scout, and he's seven years old. Scouts (at least the one's I have experience with) don't talk about dating, girls, etc., so that also should not be an issue. Dating, fortunately, is not the only aspect of a person's (gay or straight) daily living, or the only part of how the interact in society. Respecting others is, and something that the scouts DO teach (and lesbians should be able to teach that, right?)

Lesbian women, gay men, and other folks you deem as not being 'normal' can certainly be leaders. People like yourself, who would rather dictate what they think is normal, however, are not. You are the sort that would restrict people based on your own inabilities.

I have no problem with adults being Homoseuals but I definantly have a problem with them teaching small children and I am against it 100%. If a young girl ask her a question about a young boy what is she going to say, I do not know because I like girls. Not for mine.

Well Joe, you obviously don't know much about Scouting. Being a non-christian, I can tell you that you are sorely mistaken. While Christian values are a large part of Scouting, they are forced on no one. They due require you to have faith. Most all religions have a religious award available in Scouting (mine is currently an exception). The first non-christian group to start a troop were the Budhists, and it wasn't recently (try the 1930's). Faith is considered one of the most important parts of scouting. There is a reason only 6 countries in the world DO NOT have a scouting program. And remember, we are not the largest. That would be Indonesia, where the vast majority are Muslim. Please check your facts before assuming you know anything.

As for this leader, the BSA rep speaking clearly said "OPENLY HOMOSEXUAL". We know there are homosexuals (and no doubt things much worse) in Scouting, as well as any private organization would run into. Everyone seems to be missing the point of why they are the Boy Scouts of AMERICA. In this country, a private organization has the right to discriminate in membership. As long as they remain private (not taking public funds or government money), they have the FREEDOM to do so. The second they take a dime from government funds, I will be the first to stand up and cry foul. There is no perfect system or organization, but I can promise you there is no other mentoring program like the BSA in this nation. And remember while "Boy" may be in the title, girls are not excluded. Am am the Advisor to a coed crew with 5 boys and 5 girls. My job is to mentor them to be our next leaders. I don't know of anywhere else any adult (short of those convicted of sexual crimes) is welcomed to have the opportunity to directly mentor youth and make a positive change in there lives no matter what their experiences may be. Everyone has a value to the program as long as their willing to participate and follow the guidlines (specifically YPT (youth protection)). The organization is over 99% volunteer led. Take a look around you at work, your neighborhood, your children's schools. Find out just how many of the people you work with and depend on in a daily capacity are envolved in Scouting. You will be greatly suprised.
