Did 'Heart Attack' burger claim a second victim at Vegas diner?

This time the double bypass was blamed.

That’s a Double Bypass from the Heart Attack Grill in Las Vegas, where a woman -- eating a double-patty beef burger mashed between two lard-covered buns -- suffered an apparent heart attack. She was unconscious as she was rushed to the hospital Saturday night; she is expected to recover, KTNV.com reported.

To be fair, the burgers themselves may not be the culprit. The restaurant owner, Jon Basso, noted that the woman was also smoking and drinking a margarita.

"I would say the woman gave her body every single thing it could handle and it finally gave out," Basso told KVVU-TV Fox5.

This is the second time in three months that someone has collapsed while eating a burger at the Heart Attack Grill, where the motto is “Taste worth dying for.” Guests are described as patients in the restaurant’s stated quest against anorexia.

In February, a man in his 40s was eating a Triple Bypass when he began sweating and shaking.

Man stricken while eating Heart Attack Grill burger

"I actually felt horrible for the gentleman because the tourists were taking photos of him as if it were some type of stunt. Even with our own morbid sense of humor, we would never pull a stunt like that," Basso told Fox5. He said he heard the man had been hospitalized and getting better.

The restaurant doesn’t try to hide that it serves up fatty fare. A sign there reads, “Caution: This establishment is bad for your health.” Patrons who weigh more than 350 pounds eat free (and yes, there is a scale to catch the skinny minis angling for a free lunch.) The restaurant has explained that yo-yoing weight is unhealthy, so why not keep guests steadily obese?

The burgers range from the Single Bypass to the Quadruple Bypass, which has four half-pound patties and eight slices of American cheese. Add 20 slices of bacon (dripping in its own grease, of course) for $3.69. The quadruple has nearly 8,000 calories.

For good measure, the restaurant parks an ambulance out front.

If you're having a heart attack while you're eating something, obviously there is an underlying problem because it just can't get into your system that quickly. Anybody who can read knows exactly what they're doing in that restaurant. Funny how the word "choice" is optional these days. I do hope that the two patrons make a full recovery. But the operative word here is "accountability." It's time to stop playing the blame game.

If we stop selling items that cause foolish and irresponsible people to hurt themselves, we would have to get rid of food, alcohol, chainsaws, hiking shoes, cars, bikes, scissors, refrigerators...

You don't eat a single burger and have a heart attack while eating eat. It takes a history of eating habits for something like that to happen. This burger, nor any others, is going to clog your arteries while you are eating it. The idea is absolutely absurd. Only a clueless consumer would think otherwise. Sadly, one of the few things america has plenty of.

Well, you never know what might *trigger* the heart attack. Anxiety, exercise, stress, sex, and yes, eating, especially a huge meal. When your body is that close to the edge, you *really* need to watch what you do. You're right, the single burger didn't *cause* the heart attack, but it certainly could have been the reason it happened *then*. Obviously, though, the correct method of prevention is to not get that close to the edge in the first place! And avoiding massive meals like this helps in that regard. :-)

Does anyone ever take into consideration that it may have been one's last meal by choice?

The person probably got tired of eating rabbit food and practicing self denial that he could not endure and finally said, "That's it!" and went for it. It does happen. To some people it is like leaving this life D.O.T. What a way to go for some.

Wait, what if the government gave us all food stamps to be used to eat there? Think how much it would lower healthcare costs through all those assisted suicides!

Looks delicious. Wish they had one here.

I wouldn't eat it regularly, but once in a while can't hurt. People probably eat more at Thanksgiving. Maybe that should be outlawed too.

Why don't we here about the heart attack on a bun that Micky D sells billions of all over the world? I personally don't like their greasy meat like substance, pressed out so called burgers on a bun! Give me an old fashioned home made burger made from real beef. I will take my chances!
