George Zimmerman, center, speaks with his attorney Mark O'Mara, right, during a bond hearing in front of a judge at the Seminole County Courthouse in Sanford, Florida, April 20. Zimmerman has pleaded not-guilt to second-degree murder in the February shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.
The defense attorney representing George Zimmerman, the Florida man charged with second degree murder in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, said his client was wearing a bulletproof vest when released on bail Monday morning, due to continued threats to his client in the emotionally charged case, WESH-TV reported Tuesday.
Mark O'Mara also said he was considering seeking a taxpayer-funded bodyguard for Zimmerman if the threats continue, according to the report.
"The way this case has been portrayed, he's guilty until proven innocent, and people are so inflamed against him, he has to be protected, and that's a shame," O'Mara said, speaking to WESH, an NBC-affiliated station in Orlando, Fla.
Zimmerman pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder in the shooting death of Martin, an unarmed 17-year-old who was walking to his father’s fiancee's home in a gated community in Sanford, Fla. Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch captain, said he acted in self-defense in the Feb. 26 encounter.
Zimmerman was not charged for more than six weeks, sparking nationwide protests and a debate about race and equity in the justice system. Zimmerman, 28, is white and Hispanic; Martin was black.
An attorney representing the Martins also spoke to WESH to discourage any vigilantism against Zimmerman.
"They don't condone it. They don't want it," said Martin family attorney Natalie Jackson. "If that's what (others) are doing, please stop."
Also on Tuesday, O’Mara blasted a Twitter account pretending to be Zimmerman's for trying to incite anger against his client.
One fake tweet suggested Zimmerman was seeking permission to carry a gun, which was false, O'Mara said. "That's disgusting and should be prosecuted," he told WESH.
Twitter policies do allow parody accounts, but users are told to make it clear that they are not the real person, which O'Mara says was not done in this case.
"It's somebody out there saying, 'Let’s drum up more passion against George and here's how I'll do it'," O’Mara said.
Zimmerman's arraignment is on May 8. He waived his right to be present.

Between this if he is found not guilty and the prison population if he is guilty... He's screwed either way.
He screwed himself when he followed and killed the young man, he was told not to follow.
So because of making a mistake, like some humans do now and then, on many different levels, he should die and not have a fair trial? You know, i don't think anyone has really thought about what really happened, or even tried to put themselves in both Zimmerman's shoes or Martin's shoes that night. Zimmerman was a volunteer neighborhood watch personal, he has never shot anyone in his life and saw someone walking around in the neighborhood he had never seen before and apparently they have had issue of break ins in the area or..they wouldn't have a neighborhood watch and from his reaction on the 911 tapes, he must have been on duty when crimes have happened and i am sure got an earful from those who had things stolen or damaged. He overreaacted and yes, he should have sat there and waited for the cops to get there to help out, but if it happened before he most likely thought it would happen again that the cops wouldn't get there on time and if anything happened he would be blamed. I have been there, it sucks.
Trayvon was in an area he didn't know very well and was walking back, maybe not even sure where his dad's house was and he was told by his friend on the phone "run", 70 yards away from his dad's house would have taken him less than a minute to get to if he had jogged but he didn't and he didn't know who was following him.
They both could have made choices that would have left them both alive, they both made the wrong choices, they both were afraid and sadly a young life was ended that night.
This wasn't an act of cold blooded murder, that was two people who both made the wrong choices, Zimmerman thought he was protecting his life and the neighborhood, Trayvon thought he had to act before he was acted on. The facts are what they are, if you make the choice to ignore them fine, but that doesn't make zimmerman a murderer. Life isn't Black and White, its always been shades of grey and the only damn race on this planet is the Human race...time to grow up kids.
God would all of you get off the "he was told not to follow crap." HE DID NOT FOLLOW HIM ONCE HE WAS TOLD TO STOP. Are you all deaf or just incapable of hearing. This is ridiculous. Please take 5 seconds to learn the FACTS yourself and stop reading into the MSM crappola please..... Your all acting like a bunch of sheep who can't form an opinion other that what the mobs are telling you.
1. He STOPPED following him.
2. He called the cops remember?
3. He is not 240lbs.
Please try and learn the facts in the case... Otherwise your causing a travesty here. Can we please WAIT until the trial is over before you convict the man....
Zimmerman still made the decision to pull the trigger. He still made the decision to follow someone even when told not to. He *could* have made the decision to engage the young man in conversation, such as asking why he was in the gated neighborhood. He could have made this decision while on the phone with 911 and with his gun in easy reach.
But he did not. He choose the engage the boy in a fight instead of a conversation. He now needs to take responsibility, which means getting his day in court to tell everyone interested why he made the decisions he made.
the media, the radical black hate mongers have already targeted him for revenge, guilty or not guilty, he is a target, this racial divide is growing worst by the day, we are fast headed into a race war in this country, God help us.
If someone smashed my head in the ground, I'd shoot them, too. I might aim for the leg, but in all honesty, I'm horrible with a gun... Probably wouldn't matter where I aimed, but I'd still try to save myself.
PS weight doesn't REALLY matter. For all you know, Zimmerman's is all fat, and Martin's was all muscle. I haven't researched to see if their BMI's have been checked, though...
Bashful, do you read what you write? How does anything you say relate to any of the facts? he didn't engage in the fight based on the facts as they are. he took responsibility by waiting for the police and told his side of the story and the police believed him and he wasn't charged based on the laws as they were on the books "stand your ground"...he took responsibility when he was charged and he turned himself in and now should be given and fair trial and not fear for his life as he waits for trial while out on bond.
Of course he needs protection, a major network and the President incited a race war over this! Just the white part of Zimmerman of course, he doesnt want to lose the laaaatinowws vote!
You can thank the liberal media for that one! Way to go, now we have to waste more tax pay funds. Sharpton and Jackson and the black panthers should foot the bill
Imagine how different the results would have been for both if Zimmerman had pulled a rifle out of his truck instead of being allowed to carry a concealed handgun. Handguns are a real problem in this society. That is the real issue.
If Zimmerman hadn't approached Martin, he wouldn't be in this situation...! He played the bad ass, now let him be the bad ass, and tough it out until the trial...!
Oh but wait... now he wants a ..."bodyguard"... to protect him...?
Ok... what else while we're at it... "George"... maybe provide you with some catered meals now, since you can't go out in public to the grocery store... or... how about pizza every Wednesdays and Saturdays...? We'll charge it all to the taxpayers too...!!!
Maybe fix you up with all the cable channels available, so you won't be... "bored" ...? How about if someone comes over and reads you the paper every morning, while they peal your grapes for you... and we can bill that to the taxpayers also...!
Wow... hey... why don't they take the cost of whatever he needs out of the contributions he got from his website...??? By the sounds of it on here, there are a lot of people who support him, and will pay him to sit around for a year maybe two, on their nickles...
So who on here is willing to pay this fat demented looking slob that got himself in this situation... who is going to support this act of stupidity that Zimmerman brought on himself... who is going to step up and buy this clowns entertainment and whatever else for the next year...??? Anybody...??? Come one now... a lot of you were talking smack last week...
Well ... you know what... whether or not you want to... the clowns in city hall, will most likely spend your money for you no matter what you want... because here is a fat low expectation called Zimmerman, who found a way to not only kill someone, and who will most likely get a way with it, because he is claiming to be this poor little spic who is unfortunate.... but he is going to live off of you all also... and enjoy every minute of it...!!!
He not only begs on a website, and gets suckers to "donate"... now he has a lawyer to do some more begging for him, and not only is he asking for donations, his lawyer wants even more FREE things from ALL the taxpayers whether or not they want or feel he deserves them...! Wow... a total scam unfolding right before your eyes... it's better than scamming you through telemarketers...!
Make money off of taxpayers... after killing someone.... sit back and rake in the cash...!
hes going to walk free when its all over.. so get used to it.. and media..shut up and dont start riot's
How about a fair trial A.C.? How about the media stop doctoring tapes of the 911 call with the express purpose of causing racial conflict. "If I had a son, he would look like Travon" ...now what the @!$%# kind of @!$%# is that to say as the President of the United States????
Let the media foot the bill - they created this feeding frenzy of guilty until proven innocent.
The persecutor is suddenly the victim, eh? How convenient that the only other eyewitness is dead and buried. Don't think the media spin isn't about to do a 180 degree turn . . . and well in advance of the trial.
Next steps: wrap Zimmerman in the American Flag; demonize Trayvon Martin (he's dead, he can't respond); attack the evidence and chain of custody (never mind that the Sanford police who responded and investigated, who prepared the record and who 'corrected' witness accounts) were wholly unreliable; overplay how a 17-year old youth walking home from a convenience store posed a 'life threat' to a 28-year old who, among other things, used the moniker “DatNiggyTB” for his MySpace account; and beg the jury to put themselves in poor George's shoes.
Defense theme: "if the hoodie fits, you must acquit." [O'Mara ain't the only one who's practiced law; the best defense is always put the victim on trial (especially when they're dead!); and the NRA is right here beside us].
Verdict: Zimmerman not guilty.
Epilogue: George Zimmerman will be a candidate for public office, packaged as the last bastion of American culture and the Second Amendment.
And in the words of the old rock ballad, "the Christmas we get, we deserve."
John from Boston,
I concur with you 100%
The media is the real jerks in this whole mess... so is social media.
According to all the people here saying hes guilty or not guilty, and they have not seen ANY FACTS, just goes to show you how STUPID people are and how STUPID social media is.
The media did this and they should pay for it.
Absolutely!! Any self-appointed neighborhood watch captain who is packing heat; who's phoned in to 911 and been expressly instructed to stand down; who disregards instructions and takes matters into his own hands; who instigates a confrontation and then fires his weapon against an unarmed youth; and who takes another person's life, had every right to act as he did.
And it's just the "STUPID" among us that dare, that deign, to think someone like that should be held accountable before a judge and jury...something which never would have happened without the news coverage.
I imagine you'd be singing a little different tune if it was one of your family members on the other end of that barrel. But it's so easy to be smug and self-righteous with nothing at stake, isn't it?
We all have something at stake here, whether you realize it or not, and we will all pay for this. The cost of the trial is the least of it; and the enemy is not the 'media.'
If Zimmerman hadn't approached Martin, he wouldn't be in this situation...! He played the bad ass, now let him be the bad ass, and tough it out until the trial...!
Oh but wait... now he wants a ..."bodyguard"... to protect him...?

Yo... "Scorned"... ease off the kool-aid... !
Zimmerman isn't being denied a ..."fair trial"...!
And the clown is getting better treatment than Tryvon got... Treyvon didn't get a ..."fair trial"... now did he...?
Your hero George saw to that personally...!
And just for the heck of it... why did you quote what I said... then say something in response that has absolutely nothing to do with what I wrote...?
LMAO... at you ..."scorned"... fool...!
If Zimmerman is so afraid of being out in public, he can have all the taxpayer provided security he wants IN A JAIL CELL. If he is afraid of the prison polulation, he can request SOLITARY CONFINEMENT in a jail cell.
If he wants to be out on bail, that is his option. He is still charged with murder with pending legal actions in the process. If he is too afraid of being out in the populace, that is merely his yellow streak showing. Apparently the only way he ever felt man enough to walk the streets was to carry a gun .... his paranoia is just magnified now that he isnt allowed to carry a gun.
He is in hiding ... with strict rules for his release on bail. If he stays out of trouble and just "lays low" until his court appearances, he should be fine. Given his inability to stay out of trouble, he could have a problem. I am waiting for him to violate the judge's order to not contact the Martin family. He isnt good at following orders from someone in authority over him ... just ask his previous lawyers who quit about that one.
I give his current lawyer 5 to 7 weeks before quitting. He has already had to apologize once for Zimmerman (that psuedo-apology at his bond hearing was an imprompto act of Zimmermans without lawyer consultation). A lawyer of O'Mara's caliber will not tolerate a spoiled child who disrespects him.
He would have had protection had he stayed in jail. He chose to get out!
Trayvon needed protection........Zimmerman should stay in jail if he wants protection.
We need a fact based understanding of this situation.
Fact: Trayvon was unarmed and walking to a friend's house, minding his own business, talking to his girlfriend.
Fact: Zimmerman who was armed, spotted him and alerted the police.
Fact: The police told Zimmerman to chill and wait for the police to get there, and not to follow Trayvon.
Fact: Zimmerman ignored the police and started to follow Trayon.
Fact: Trayvon over the phone, told his girlfriend that somebody was following him.
Fact: There was some kind of confrontation, screams for help, then a gunshot.
Fact: Trayvon, a unarmed teenager was dead.
Fact: Zimmerman 28, said he killed Trayvon in self-defense. He was not arrested for several weeks, and all hell broke lose.
Fact: And people wonder why other people are so upset about this!!
Barlow; funny, I have been following this since it first hit the news papers. The police reports, paper reports, etc. all have different facts that you have stated. It appears this is a case of someone in a room full of people saying a simple sentence and have them repeat the sentence one by one until the last person repeats what he/she was told (we did this in school and was shocked at the result). May I suggest you redo your research and get your "FACTS" straight!
Let him pay for his own security. He has been collecting funds on his website. This is a personal responsibility.
Barlow, I agree. At the end of the day, an unarmed minor, minding his own business, is shot and killed by aman with a concealed handgun. Now, we don't have all the facts and Trayvon is not able to tell his side of the story first hand, but the outrage should be on how does a minor loose his life under these circumstances. Instead, I am amazed how many people on this board are outraged on the perceived injustice suffered by Zimmerman. I'm not saying he is guilty of 2nd degree murder or of having a racial motivation. But clearly, the arrest and charges are merited and so is a trial. There isn't a mother or father out there with a teenage son, black or white, that would want to see justice served. BTW, I have a teenage son.
Ironic, video here on MSNBC posted about the same time as this story. Its a video of a group of young black men and women beating the crap out of an 30+ white guy. It has 50 comments, this story just about Zimmerman needing a bodyguard has almost 380 comments. Pretty much says it all. I'm stunned any media outlet even ran the story.
Too bad Trayvon didn't have taxpayer protection from this moron.
Fine, so long as it is him and/or his family picking up the tab. No tax money should be used. Even if not guilty of murder, had he not failed to heed the words of the 911 operator, he wouldn't be in this mess, so it is now for him alone to clean up. And if he is guilty, taxpayers will be paying enough to house, clothe and feed him, possibly for life, while many of them can barely do that for themselves and their families. He chose to disobey the warnings, numerous time; he chose to carry a tool that serves only one purpose, that is to kill; he chose to do everything wrong that he could have. If he is now scared, tough. I was always thought to think before I acted - most parents tell their kids that. He didn't, so he now has the responsibility of doing what he needs to do and not expect the rest of us to pay for whatever those needs might be, such as guards or a secure location.
This doesn't excuse those other nuts who put a bounty on the head of another living person. they should be arrested and tried too. They are no better than him, as they seek to have a life ended, and as no one in the public knows all the facts (that is what the trial is for), no one should seek to punish him before then.
Now personally I do think he murdered Treyvon. He stalked him, confronted him and shot him. I want him tried for that in a court of law. I want all the evidence out in the pen. If he is convicted and sentenced to life without parole, I will be happy. If he isn't convicted, then he should be shown to have killed but within the boundaries of a very, very flawed law, and that law should be changed ASAP. If he isn't convicted because of bias by the jury, then it will be a travesty, but one I expect from anywhere people value owning guns over human life. Just because you have the right to do something has never, ever meant you SHOULD do it. A missing comma in the Second Amendment is at fault here, as I read it as clearly saying ONLY a well regulated militia should have guns, period. End of Story. Want a gun, join the National Guard or the Police and be trained and regulated. Appeal to your State Government to have it approve your group as a State Militia and have them send out regulators and trainers who will make sure you know the law and obey it, especially regarding the storage of any guns (gun safes, trigger locks, bullets kept apart from the guns, etc... you know what the NRA claims they teach). This all comes down to if Zimmerman had no gun, no shooting would have happened. Maybe they would have fought, but a bloody nose is better than a dead 17YO any day.
I've said my peace. I won't be back so flame if you want, I won't be seeing it nor will I be caring about pro-gun people's opinions. Never have and never will. I have, in the past, upon learning friends of many years have bought a gun, or have taken up hunting ended our friendship, so people I don't even know aren't about to change my views.
Hmmmm, interesting concept! Taxpayer funded protection? Wonder what Floridians think about this? The story keeps morphing into something from the 'twilight zone.' Protecting one who is out on bail; one who shot and killed a young teen on his way home, carrying iced tea + Skittles, and less than seven, yes 7, yards from the door of the house where he was staying.
Zimmerman can't have it all or have it his way! It is called, 'paying the piper,' after you ignore the 911 police operator's command to 'stand down.' Sadly, he altered the life of young Trayvon Martin that night and altered his and that of his family as well. He shall have to pay his dues.
Judging from many of the posts here, the stupidity of the general population is truly scary. How can so many people form an opinion on the guilt of a person based purely on information provided by the attorney for the Martin family and reported as fact by the media? Doesn't anyone think for themselves anymore? Don't you even notice who is providing the information that you are basing a decision on?
I agree with the idea that the media should pay for the protection. The media fed all the speculation on what the Martin family says occurred when Trayvon was shot. They don't know anymore than we do. They weren't there either. There are other factors at play here. Remember that Trayvon's name and image have been copywrited by the parents. Don't you realize that, regardless of the outcome of the criminal trial, more litigation will follow?
It appears that money, not justice, was the motivation for the news releases on March 17th after the release of the 911 calls. An effort to gain public support for the impending lawsuits got out of hand from that point on thanks to the gullibility of the American public and the ranting of the racists.
Dan,
Sorry but you only have his word that he turned around and was on his way back to his vehicle. I have noticed how people have used him acknowledging that he "didn't have to follow him" with an okay is absolute proof that he didn't attempt to continue to look for Martin. Listen to the conversation further, after they discussed him going back and meeting the police at the mailboxes. If he was on his way back to his vehicle to meet the police why would he have the dispatcher take his phone number so that the police could call him when they arrive so he can direct them to his location? They already knew the location of his vehicle. That alone should make people think twice about whether or not he is telling the truth about being on his way back to his vehicle which makes the whole of his testimony suspect. I don't know whether or not he was telling the truth but in a case where someone has been killed that is reason enough for this to be taken to trial, allow a jury to hear all the evidence and allow them to decide whether he is guilty or not guilty. Not just swept under the rug on miniscule evidence.
For all you people that say you would have done the same thing or are trying to defend him because he was a neighborhood watch volunteer and there had been several break-ins recently should remember that as a neighborhood watch volunteer his duties are to observe and report. He was fine while he was in his vehicle on the phone with the dispatcher. Once he got out of his vehicle to chase Martin he overstepped his boundaries.
What people who think Zimmerman was totally in the right to do what he did need to ponder over is what would you have done as a young adult (I will give it that as he was on the cusp of being an adult) if you were just walking down the street minding your own business and some random stranger was following you in their vehicle (he has not attempted to identify himself and ask you what you are doing in the neighborhood) and when you attempt to get away (you have no idea what that persons intentions are) they hop out of their vehicle and chase you for no apparent reason. What would you have done if you were fearful for your life?
Donna, I agree with you.
Where's all of the rest of Zimmerman's watch group? Let them watch out for him. Were they too chicken, or don't they own guns?
So, you were there? Have you informed Zimmerman's attorney so he can call you as a witness?
trm - It's on the taped 911 call. Zimmerman lost track of Martin and couldn't follow him even if he wanted to. Martin had to come back to Zimmerman for the confrontation to take place.
trm, there is a witness.
In the United States, one is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Reading these posts is scary.
I have never seen so many imagind "facts" and sh!thouse lawyering in my life.
RwEvans.what is being missed in this case is easy to see if you want to see it. It was Zimmerman who got out of his car or whatever and followed that boy. He was told not too do so, yet he did it anyway. Zimmerman would not be in the position he is in now nor would the boy be dead if Zimmerman had followed instructions given to him. Would I have gone after someone cornering me at night like that..most likely...so would most others. SO, who is doing wrong...the boy, assuming he did fight with Zimmerman..which is questionable still..no one really knows..we only have Zimmermans word. We do however have 911 calls from someone calling for help..that has already been verified that it was not Zimmerman calling out. Zimmerman was doing just what he was not suppose to be doing...and that is confronting anyone..that is what the police are for..he took it upon himself to follow that boy and killed him..the confrontation was from him., Zimmerman ,, it was he doing the following or pursuing.
The only witness is Zimmerman. Are you trying to say you get video with a 911 call?
Even his ex-lawyers admitted that Zimmerman was the only one who witnessed the start of the altercation. They said it on national television.
Sure give him all the protection he offered Trayvon that night, and we'll call it even. Bummer dude.
Why are people saying he didn't follow the "orders" of the dispatcher? Where are you getting this from? This is really making the Martin supporters look really stupid. It's obvious from the 911 call, Zimmerman lost track of Martin. If you have evidence to dispute this fact, please present it.
Maybe we should all get taxpayer-funded bodyguards to protect us from overzealous-wanna.be-unlicensed-armed-security guards.
He is guilty of shooting Martin, there is no question about that... he admits it. Once it is proven you are guilty of killing someone, it should be your responsibility to prove it was self defense. The shooters version of events must be verified. If we allow claims of self-defense to restrict or prohibit a proper investigation then EVERY future shooting will suddenly be a case of "self-defense".
Most people are inflamed against the situation, not Zimmerman. What is protecting the people from being shot and their shooter getting away with no charges as long as they claim they were in fear for their life? This is the issue, Zimmerman just happens to have been the benefactor of the situation until the media forced a more thorough investigation.
There are people on both sides trying to drum up passions. This statement in itself from O'Mara is designed to drum up support for Zimmerman.
I get so tired of this same outright lie being told over and over again. He was never told, ordered, commanded or any such not to follow. He was told he did not have to, or didn't need to follow. He was never told "don't follow". There is a difference, not that it matters to anyone that has already convicted him based on nothing other than speculation and a jaded view.
If you honestly look at the reported facts, like police reports and unedited 911 tapes, not newsvine hearsay or slanted news website editorials, you should be ashamed of yourselves.
After reading these posts here I am no longer surprised at the state this country is in. Like lemmings jumping off of the cliff "hey look, so-and-so did it so lets followwwwwwwwww (sound diminishes)"
For those that believe just the media: you get what you deserve
For those that think it is the firearm's fault: You also get what you deserve
For those that think that they should be carrying a firearm on a NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH: Dont ever own a firearm EVER. Step away from it, sell it, give it away, turn it into the police but never handle it again. The neighborhood watch has a very special word in its title...say it with me "NEIGHBORHOOD". Would you want armed civilians roaming the streets in the wee hours of the morning, while they are tired? I would not and I am a big believer in the 2nd amendment. But the neighborhood watch is not a place for someone to carry.
Now, how about you all take a step back and look at thebig picture: the media is going to write and promote the story in a way that will create the most buzz, views, money, etc. Case in point: read above, in the story where it has a type "equate" where I believe they were trying to state "equality". A different word, a different meaning.
Did the media broadcast the white couple that got assaulted by a group of black individuals? Nope, instead they keep trying to promote Trayvon as an "angel" and Zimmerman as a "WHITE" evildoer. By the way, he is white/mexican mixed. Does it matter? Yes it does...to Sharpton and JJ. How else can they get a rise out the black community? How else can they get in front of the camera for free publicity?
This country is slowly, well not so slowly anymore, becoming separated and dissention is being layed out like cement. the internal strife of the US is going to become so great that there will no longer be any law and order and you wont be able to speak up to anyone without fear of being assaulted. This is true.
By the way, if you think that I am telling tall tales, look up "the president signed a law making it a felony if your free speech offends him OR his secret service". Go ahead. Look it up. It is a video snippet of news coverage. The pres. signed it into law that it is a felony for your free speech if him or the SS feel that your words are detrimental in any facet. It also includes a year in jail and a felony charge.
Here is the link to the video: Click on the word video.
I am prepared for what could possibly be, are you? Because if you are surprised about it and are not prepared....you will not be in a good place.
Disabled_Vet - what you're saying is just not true. The president did NOT sign a law making it a felong if your speech offends him or the secret service. That is nothing but a lie. I don't know why people make up things it is so easy to dispute.
Zimmerman is guilty... If he would not have stopped in the first place, Martin would not be dead. Plain and simple. There was no defense in what he did. It was cold-blooded murder.
SeekingSanity
Not that this is the thread to debate this one SeekingSanity but.... it is now federal law to prohibit any protest on federal property,,,, be it owned or leased by the fed in any way shape or form.

Trust_verify---------What if states, cities, and towns do the same thing?
you all have thoughtful comments
You got me on the wrong side of that argument.... I disagree with that particular law. I have all sorts of issues with restriction of any Right. I may not agree with what someone has to say but unless it is a falsehood or causes undo panic it is a citizens Right to say damn near anything. Fire in a theater is a valid restriction unless there really is a fire. Inciting unrest is borderline but that is sort of what we did in 1776 if I recall history.
Right of assembly is under the 1st Amendment. So long as it doesn't block access to service by others for an unreasonable time it is a form of protest that is protected.
If this is the law now, we are very, very close to Mother Russia than we realize.

Hello comrade.
Official Summary
The following summary was written by the Congressional Research Service, a nonpartisan arm of the Library of Congress, which serves Congress. GovTrack did not write and has no control over these summaries.
3/8/2012--Public Law. (This measure has not been amended since it was reported to the Senate on November 17, 2011. The summary of that version is repeated here.) Federal Restricted Buildings and Grounds Improvement Act of 2011 [sic] - Amends the federal criminal code to revise the prohibition against entering restricted federal buildings or grounds to impose criminal penalties on anyone who knowingly enters any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority. Defines "restricted buildings or grounds" as a posted, cordoned off, or otherwise restricted area of: (1) the White House or its grounds or the Vice President's official residence or its grounds, (2) a building or grounds where the President or other person protected by the Secret Service is or will be temporarily visiting, or (3) a building or grounds so restricted due to a special event of national significance.
Trust, looks like we are there, for all practical purposes.
It's called "Neighborhood Watch Group", not "Private Security Group". Carrying a gun doesn't give you the right to stop someone you don't know, or follow them till the person gets annoyed. That's the job of the local law enforcement.Zimmerman's lucky that Trayvon didn't have a gun too, or he might not be here today. Then, Trayvon could have pleaded "Stand your ground " as well. Foolish mistake.
Trayvon didn't need a gun he used the sidewalk as his weapon, at least he acted that way..Ended in tragedy for him.
Who was stalking who? If I had a gun in my face, I'd step on his head after throwing it to the ground.

George was NOT acting as any sort of group. He was a private concerned citizen who was, and is, licensed to own and carry a gun. Correct in carrying a gun doesn't give one rights beyond anyone else. We have no evidence who stopped whom and from what we do know George was simply observing. While he did get out of his truck, again we have no evidence he did more than walk on a common sidewalk.
you need to quit throwing terms out you don't have a grasp on. SYG is a term used to support self defense. Fl statute 776 in this instance. READ the law and the requirements to invoke self defense.
What evidence do you have the the gun came out prior to the fight? Witnesses? NONE of the witlessness SAW a gun. They saw two individuals engaged in a fist fight. They didn't even see the gun when it went off as far as we are aware.
demmie1555521---------I also don't think the gun came out at first (but Zimmerman created an unsafe situation by having a gun.) ----------Maybe, Zimmerman stopped suddenly when Trayvon approached Zimmerman to ASK WHY ZIMMERMAN WAS FOLLOWING HIM. Don't forget what could have happened on a rainy night if Zimmerman was running on wet grass and stopped suddenly when Trayvon approached him. Zimmerman's feet could have gone out from under him, and Zimmerman could have landed on his back and hit his head on the sidewalk. At that point, Trayvon might have seen Zimmerman's gun, and Trayvon then realized he had to protect himself.......... (Problem is, there are many speculative scenarios out there-----that's why we need to let a jury decide in a court of law.)
Trust-verify---------On the police tape Zimmerman is huffing and puffing before and after the dispatcher said Zimmerman did not need to follow the person. Such heavy breathing makes it sound as if Zimmerman was running.
he WAS huffing and puffing. His breathing is under control as they discuss where he lives and where the police will meet him. Granted we can't tell from the recording where he was or where he was heading.
You are reaching with your speculation on geroge slipping, falling, gun showing. Again, no verbalization by the girlfriend. You are also asking us to believe George landed on his back then fell on his nose. That or Trayvon attacked George while he was down on the ground.
I already put the scenario in the category of "speculative" . I did not say he fell on his nose. But you can hear Zimmerman's heavy breathing on the police call tape. (I suspect that's what led the dispatcher to ask Zimmerman if he was following Trayvon.)
agreed on why the dispatch asked the question.
I'll bet George would have not followed Trayvon, if he wasn't carrying a gun. If he (Trayvon) was as scary as George Zimmerman had professed over the phone, then he most likely would have kept his distance. The gun made Zimmerman feel invincible. His ethnic slur, gun, and ignoring the 911 operator to keep his distance, in my book, would have been enough evidence to me, for Zimmerman to have been the instigator. Like I said, he would have never followed him without that gun. Most punks are nothing without the guns they use in crimes, and George is no different.
in my book, would have been enough evidence to me,
fortunately your "book" is not what the law requires.
Most bullies and criminals feel it isn't right that people can carry concealed.
Except George Zimmerman, of course.
Did you take a poll?
Gun debate is another thread.
You seem to know the results. Can we have them?
didn't he survive for 5 weeks without protection before he was arrested?
what he really needs to avoid is walking down the street at night wearing a hoodie with a bag of skittles and an ice tea.....he needs to be wary of "zealous neighborhood watch patrols"!
Zimmerman's attitude toward the the person he was following is what is important. It was an attitude of disrespect and prejudgment.
bdune-----By the way, a hoodie implies a sweatshirt. The police officer wrote in his report it was a SWEATER.
And your proof of that is...?
arguesforsport-----Here are just 4 things Zimmerman said on the police call tape: "There's a real suspicious guy" + "This guy looks like he is up to no good or he's on drugs or something." + "Something's wrong with him" + "These a...holes they always get away."
So, you think that he called the police to invite them to come witness a murder?...Cause that's what he'd have to be doing if we're gonna say that this is a legitimate Murder 2 case. He profiled him, and then stalked him down, huh?
Some of you are gonna be very disappointed when he walks because Corey was aiming too high. If she'd gone with manslaughter this MAY have went to trial. As it is, I don't see it happening.
I said that Zimmerman's attitude toward the person he was following is what is important. It was an attitude of disrespect and prejudgment. (comment # 2.1)
I know what you said, that's what I was referring to. To say that his was an attitude of "disrespect", really says nothing. That has no bearing whatsoever on this case. To say that his was an attitude of "prejudgment" infers that you believe he was profiling, thus agreeing with the Murder 2 charge which, like I said, is a far reach. ; ) That's all.
Tiff44----I just don't think that a person on "watch duty" should have such an attitude of disrespect and prejudgment. (Especially, his comment, "These a...holes they always get away." Such thinking could have pushed Zimmerman to have followed to the point that he was huffing and puffing on the police call tape.)
Tiff44------to continue: Think of that airline pilot who was in the news recently. That pilot's attitude (worries and negative thoughts) made him ineffective to fly the plane, and he had to be relieved of his duties. In the same way Zimmerman's attitude made him inept and ineffective to be a proper Neighborhood Watch volunteer that night.
you all have thoughtful comments
Tiff44----I just don't think that a person on "watch duty" should have such an attitude of disrespect and prejudgment.
Stop already you all have thoughtful comments. George was NOT on duty. George was not on patrol. George was not and is not a GUARD. The first headline MSM ran on this should have stated Student shoots teen while returning from errands. George was an unemployed student at the time of the incident. He at times did neighborhood watch patrols but was not engaged in that activity at the time. He was at worse a concerned citizen who was exercising the privilege of CCW under FL Law and his 2nd Amendment rights as a Citizen. When he shot Trayvon he was exercising the privilege under FL law to defend himself that existed BEFORE SYG and is a basic unwritten right even if not codified into law. He was also demonstrating what a responsible citizen and good neighbor should do when seeing suspicious activity in an area KNOWN to have had repeated property crime.
TRUST_VERIFY------He was, in fact, a member of Neighborhood Watch of his gated community. He was not on duty at first because he was going to the Target Store. However, once he decided to follow Trayvon, instead of continuing on to Target (ie-changing the target of his attention and "errand"), he in fact was on Watch. At that point, he should have removed his gun from his holster and placed it in the glove compartment of his car.
sorry yahtc but he was not on duty any more than you or I as concerned citizens. Simply being a member of some organization does not make you on duty 24/7 He is not a police officer or member of the military. As a LICENSED CCW he was under no obligation to put his gun anywhere in the setting he was in.. He was not entering a school ground or any other gun restricted area. A "watch" has a formal time and location. Usually posted. He is not and was not a GUARD as defined by FL Law. He does not have a "Guard Card" or FL eqv designation and training. He was authorized as a CITIZEN to CARRY a firearm under FL LAW.
BTW while the NATIONAL Neighborhood Watch Org has rules they are not LAWS nor was this community officially or even unofficially affiliated with that group.
Trust_verify--------By the way, you provide a great contribution to the web page by asking questions or making statements to clarify various statement of the commenters.
Trusty_verify--------Zimmerman HIMSELF put himself on duty of watch when he started following Trayvon and when he called in his watch findings. We differ, but it is good to clarify each others comments or ask questions.
You all have thoughtful comments, good posts along with verify's. I don't agree with "Zimmerman put himself on duty" just by seeing something that didn't look right. Zimmerman was just going about his business returning from Target and observed a suspicious character in the neighborhood, in his estimation. He called 911 and reported it, as most others would do if they thought that possibly a crime was in progress, whether a part of a neighborhood watch group or not. A person bent on killing someone, surely would not call the police beforehand, would he?
Thanks for your post, DASVET.------- Zimmerman certainly was not as you put it "bent on killing someone". Zimmerman just seemed to muddle (not a good word) things up so much that he found himself deeper and deeper into developing ( or the development of ) a tragic situation.
I read the transcript. And yes, he said all those things. The transcript also gives the actions of Martin observed by Zimmerman and relayed to the police Any sane person would be thinking the same things. So now it's wrong to say that someone may be drunk if they're stumbling over their own feet too? Because that's what you are basically saying. If someone runs away from you for no apparent reason, you would not think that suspicious? Keep grasping at straws. The defense is going to have a field day with this.
Thanks Dasvet. I can't understand that putting on duty either. And even if he had there are no LAWS on neighborhood watch only rules that apparently weren't followed IF they had been part of the national org.
arguesforsport
I hear you on the observation... It now appears to make one guilty of profiling if you report the suspicious activity/person because they fit the profile. And you had better wait until they give you the right ethnicity choice when you call in or you will be racist for stating the race of the person you see and are calling in about.
Even those "rules" state in the very first paragraph that what follows are "suggestions" for setting up a community watch.
Trust_verify + Arguesforsport---------------Even though there were "...NO LAWS on neighborhood watch", why do you think that the national Neighborhood Watch org. has rules that (as you say Trust_verify) , "weren't followed" by Zimmerman" ? - Do you think it was, that from the inception of the organization, they defined themselves as the "EYES and EARS" of the community? - Why would they do that? - (Could it be that approaching a person is best done by a police officer who has the special training to be involved in the situation of approaching and questioning a person? Do you think that the national organization believes NOT FOLLOWING and NOT CARRYING A GUN offers a certain level of safety for the watcher and the watched?) --- Also, do you think that most communities would rather have an untrained community watch volunteer carrying a gun follow a person (who might just be an innocent member or guest of the community)? ---------------------------------------------------------------------Now a speculative question: Do you think the national organization's "gun" rule and "don't follow" rule might be what kept the watch group to which Zimmerman belonged from wanting to join the National Neighborhood Watch organization?
yahtc
What part of SUGGESTION don't you get? What part of this gated community was NOT part of that organization don't you get? What part of while it might have been a good idea to stay home and have a beer that rainy night? What part of George not automatically being on duty simply because he saw someone. Just because your neighborhood has a neighborhood watch you don't automatically "Go on duty" every time you step out the door to take a walk around the block?
In answer to your question. Not at all. The most likely reason they were not affiliated was they didn't take the time and effort to go through the motions. There may even be some fee/dues to become part of the national group. I've been a member (owned) in a HOA community. One was "gated"(had walls around the entire place but no gate at the entrance) the other was not. Getting a quorum of members to have a meeting often required a scramble of knocking on doors. If I remember correctly the police supposedly gave a lecture in September last year. There are only two things that will get members out. Raising the HOA fees/dues and spending money. Even the annual vote doesn't get much turnout. They elect the same board members forever because NO ONE wants to be on the board. They become the target of everything that is wrong in the community.
Again, George was not acting in the capacity of a Neighborhood Watch person that night. He was a concerned citizen who happened to be legally armed. By your definition he would be "on duty" if someone broke into his home and thus could not use his gun even then.
Trust_Verify--------------The Neighbor National Watch organization (according to "arguesforsport" in comment #2.19 above) has suggestions for setting up a Neighborhood Watch in a community. The organization "suggests" that there be a rule for volunteers not to carry a gun and a rule for volunteers not to follow a person but just watch. In my comment #2.20 above I was addressing WHY the national Neighborhood Watch organization might suggest those two rules as part of setting up a Neighborhood Watch in a community.------As far as your second question--I never said that Zimmerman's community group was part of the national Neighborhood Watch organization.-----As far as your third question -- I never said Zimmerman should have stayed home and had a beer that rainy night. We differ on the question of whether Zimmerman put HIMSELF on duty that night.
By the way, I am distressed that Zimmerman has to be concerned for his safety. NO DEFENDANT should be the victim of public threats. We have a good justice system. A jury should decide the case in a court of law.
They have good protective custody in jails.
His lawyer should buy a gun and protect him.......he petitioned for bail didn't he??
And tax-payer funded at that. It should keep most of the GZ defenders happy.
Well ... you know what... whether or not you want to... the clowns in city hall, will most likely spend your money for you no matter what you want... because here is a fat low expectation called Zimmerman, who found a way to not only kill someone, and who will most likely get a way with it, because he is claiming to be this poor little hispanic boy who is unfortunate.... but he is going to live off of you all also... and enjoy every minute of it...!!!
If Martin had behaved at school, he would have been in Miami.
@A.C-1213193
It's refreshing to see someone so blatantly hypocritical when it comes to killing another person. It's wrong to kill Trayvon, but ok to kill this guy? Is it that you are fine with killing him just because he's Hispanic? If not, why mention it?
Dasvet - or he may still have been there visiting his father. What is your point?
Point is, Trayvon was something far removed from a choirboy, even if we did have to see only a four or five year old picture of him sans the gold teeth, tatoos, etc. There are many ways that this situation could have been avoided, some were the school actions of the toddler, Trayvon. If Zimmerman did have to go to the store (Target) this would never have happened, or Trayvon did't have a craving for Skittles and Arizone Tea. The list is endless concerning the what ifs.
If that's the only criteria for legal murder, a whole lot of people need to put on those bullet proof vests.
TRM2008 and that is what is wrong today: you read the first part of the post and ran with it. How about the rest of the post?
@DASVET: good post!
NO ONE forced him to bail out.. all Zimmerman has to do, is have his bailsman revoke his bond, and remand himself into police protective custody.. and they will HAVE to protect,, or he can HIRE PERSONAL GUARDS AT HIS EXPENSE...
wahh wahh wahh.. the big bully is crying because he can't take his own attutde.. effing punks like him always get away.... seems he's getting a sose of his own medicine from the public...
You mean the part where you called Trayvon a toddler or the part about the grill and the tattoos? It's sounds like you think Trayvon's decision to get tattoos and gold teeth plays some part in him getting shot. So, I did read your entire post, and I could also ask, "What is wrong with you?"
@ boom reason
It's amazing there are people like you... just asking... but do you by any chance plan on walking upright any time soon...?
It's amazing that you got that I want anybody ..."dead" ... from what I wrote... I'll bet you hear voices and see things that aren't really there too... right...
Keep up the insanity... someone, somewhere has got to be counting on you... for something... some day... !
LMAO... at you...!
@A.C-1213193
Now now child, settle down. Nobody here is out to harm you.
When you grow up and your prefrontal cortex develops a little more, you'll understand what I wrote. Until then, keep quiet and let the adults speak.
OMG...!!! .... I saw that episode too...LOL...! Tell us now... how many episodes of House did you actually have to watch before that one came up so you could pull that line out to use it here.....
ROTFLMAO...!!!!!
@A.C-1213193
Which part of "keep quiet and let the adults speak" went over your little head?
boom the... "cartoon"...seems to be getting mad now... are you getting mad...boom the cartoon...?
Poor guy, he simply stood his ground, defended himself, and now that people have a problem with it he's found himself on trial and worse being prejudged by people. Makes you wish they could respect his right to defend himself by standing his ground. He may have followed the kid, but he stopped and stood his ground at some point, which follows the law. A much needed law for a state to have. Hopefully he'll be found not guilty, allowed to live his life, and more states will adapt this law, so people won't be beating up on other people anymore.
He also admitted to the 911 operator he was following the kid and was advised not to, rather to allow the police to do their job. Was it Zimmerman standing his ground, or was it Martin? Maybe Martin stood his ground since he was being followed, but only brought fists to a gun fight.
Chirs,
And you actually believe that crap? Talking about "prejudging", wow! Zimmie saw a young black and "prejudged" him to be a thief, probably because he judges all "coons", as he called him, to be thieves. Gimme a break. You are appearing to be one ignorant dumbass, but I will not prejudge you to be so. By the way, you wouldn't happen to be white, would you?
plotinus
Just when did zimmerman say "coon"? I have listened to the 911 tapes altered and unaltered, never heard the word "coon"
I am only repeating what was reported time and time again over several news channels. Perhaps in the trial the experts can hammer that one out. You can believe what you will. Or maybe you listen to different news channels. Where did you hear "altered" and "unaltered" tapes of this, by the way?
I think some people want him to have said coon i didnt here either slodon
Plotinus
What news channels have reported the word "coon" was on the tapes? I saw a story on CNN where the reporter and a soundman tried to isolate the word in a section of the tape. They both said that they couldn't hear the word even after filtering the noise out and increasing the frequency for human speech.
Now. What other news channels have done that? What were their results?
Plotinus
here are the calls as released by the PD. Georges call is in the clear. 9-1-1 witness calls were redacted to protect them http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/03/16/trayvon-martin-911-audio-_n_1354909.html
What we know for a fact is the PROSECUTION has filed as evidence the word was "PUNK". So no matter what any of us think or believe the official word is PUNK and that can only be changed by George and the defense team and they would be foolish to make an attempt as that would only open the door to disputing the coon word again.
Stand means to not move. Zimmerman moved he did not stand he chased after and ask for trouble.
trust i clicked the link but i couldnt find where they said the word was punk
trustydude,
Thanks for that version. We can hammer this out all we want and all we are doing is showing our own personal biases probably. I just have lived in the South most of my life and seen firsthand how the blacks get treated. Interestingly though, the worst prejudice I ever experienced personally was when me, a young white boy, moved to California and started encountering the blacks out there. Many had left the south due to the racism and carried one big racist chip on their shoulder. Funny how things are when they get reversed.
Plotinus: Well, good to see you're not prejudging anything.....And I will say, perhaps too impartially for your taste, that while I also thought it sounded like a racial slur when I heard the tape, it's hard to see why the prosecution would neutralize its own advantage by stating otherwise unless it had actually determined that it wasn't.
dontjudgeme-3793665
I never claimed he said punk..I stated that is what the prosecution claims. Personally I heard "fu**ing cold" right after he gets out and starts to run/follow. It fits with him getting out a warm dry truck into the chilly, for Florida, rain. It fits more now that I saw how small George appears to be compared to other people in court.
Plotinus
I've lived in quite a few places. This will be taken out of context, but the south does their best to keep Blacks "in line" I'm not saying it is right only that it happens. I've met Blacks everywhere I've lived and some are chip bearers and others are as nice as the next person. Met Whites the same way.
When I first read this story I was very against George... turns out the reporting was very bias. I'm not so much in favor of George so much as in his corner due to the Constitution and the law as written in FL. I think what George did was STUPID in the best light. One of the things I give George credit for is keeping his mouth shut since the questioning. He gave his side of things and then lawyered up.
His BIGGEST mistake was allowing someone to get close enough to take a swing. He made others but that in my view was the dumbest of all of them.
You should practice what you preach my friend. You are prejudging his innocence when all of the evidence has not even been put out to the public. Nobody will ever really know what happened that night but two people and one of them is six feet under. I completely, but respectfully, disagree that the stand your ground law should be adopted in every state. The laws that every state already had in place were fine and then along comes ALEC and the NRA shoving this concept down lawmakers throats and, boom! As far as protection for GZ? I do not think that anyone should get tax payer funded protection while they are awaiting trial. Let the man put a second mortgage on his home or take out a loan. His attorney is playing to the media and the people to draw sympathy for his client. If his attorney is so worried about him let him put up the money for a bodyguard.
Plotinus...look up bigoted, understand the meaning and you are just another follower and only believes what other tell you to believe and unable to see the truth even when it has smacked you in the forehead. a wiseman seeks the truth and accepts it as truth, a fool just thinks he knows the truth.
Plotinus
We can hammer out all the issues you want...
Bottom line - Trayvon Martin is dead!
Whether Martin attacked Zimmerman or not..
The bottom line is Martin was "targeted" by Zimmerman for being black, wearing a hoodie, and merely looking suspious....that simple!
The courts will decide....but Zimmerman will always know he and he alone initiated this event without cause!
AlaskaGirl-759554
ummm That is sort of how the system works Innocent until PROVEN guilty. Remember the Duke lacrosse players? So far I have not seen/heard any evidence to prove it was NOT self defense.
You state that not understanding that people in FL WERE being arrested and spending small fortunes proving it was self defense... even clear cut cases of intruders into homes. I'm not saying this law is perfect but the INTENT was to keep those using self defense from going straight to jail and getting sued. One such reported incident is a criminal was breaking into a home and the home owner shot them then got sued for the criminals injuries... the suit was quashed eventually but not before the lawyers got rich.
so you don't even believe in protective custody? What if it was you being accused? I'm not saying he should get funding but if he is killed that is NOT justice and here's the kicker... if he pays out of pocket and is found not guilty he gets to collect ALL reasonable expenses and fees under FL law.
He rents, his father owns the place. They have already taken out loans to make bail.
Part of his job actually .. especially considering ALL the negative reporting and statements from the Martin camp.
He may just do that... again he is making a pubic statement which puts the state on the hook for Georges safety AND to reimburse fees and expenses should they win the case... Basically saying I gave you the chance to control the cost so you can't complain what it ends up costing.
Trust,
Could you possibly explain what you mean by "in line" ? I too have lived in quite a number of places and I'm not sure I'm familiar with the "in line" concept.
He said "these fu#$ing coons always get away". Anyone who says different either doesn't want to hear or they're lying to themselves.
hey Trust sorry i see that now your right and i totally agree with you the media made me say i want to see what happens in the courts now but no matter what happens what is a fact is that Zimm did not have to kill that boy im 25 i am a big dude but theres no way me and a 17 year old get into it and i gotta use my gun i wouldnt be able to look myself in the mirror.
Brian
You should watch this CNN video.
http://gillreport.com/2012/04/video-cnn-enhances-zimmerman-911-tape-finds-possible-racial-slur/
braincandy im black and i didnt hear coon im honestly not sure what i heard its the police job to investigate not me i know i had a incident where my gun was stolen from my home and i called and reported to the police. 1 month later i get a call saying the police recovered my gun and that i would hear back when there finish with it, im thinking in my mine when your finish with it they had explained it was used in a shooting some kid fired it at another kids hand. I received my gun by a uniform police officer 2 months later.
Wow! There's a lot of hard of hearing people out there. And plenty that are just wishfully thinking. Like whoever made the comment about him sounding like he said 'damn cold'. Really? "Damn cold always get away"??? That doesn't even begin to make sense!
and dontjudgeme, it was coons, not coon. It wasn't the clearest part of the call recording, but it was in no way inaudible. And it was right in line with how he described Trayvon. If there had been a muffled voice in the background that said anything that sounded remotely like "white cracker", you wouldn't be able to suggest anything else that it could have possibly been.
And for the reverse racism crowd, well, white folk made that bed for themselves. A lot of them on here seem to still make it everyday. White people are racist for no other reason than to just be racist. Black people have a history in this country, still to this day as you can see reading these post daily, that pretty much justifies some negative bias to most whites. I'm far from racist, but history is history and facts are facts and are large portion of whites in America are trying to bring things around to 200 years ago.
BrainCandy-3328906
hate to break it to you, but you are in fact racist.
If the kid didn't attack someone, he would be alive today.
Trust--- Don't you think Zimmerman's attitude toward the person he was following is what is important. It was an attitude of disrespect and prejudgment.
One could argue that Martin "stood his ground"....and lost. I am not one of these religious guys but I do like some passages in the Bible. The one most appropriate here is" He who lives by the sword shall die by the sword." Either way, the sword ("NRA") wins.
@B70732oC: Really? Now you are bringing NRA into it? How does the NRA win? What do they win?
Seriously? Find a hobby.
Simply put he should be found innocent. The punk attacked him. As far as gun rights go they are only for those of us that follow the law. Cam someone tell me without smiling why you would have to make a run to a store at 11 pm for some skittles?
As Tom Petty stated, I will stand my ground and I wont back down. Tell that to the race baiters, sharpton and himey-town jackson.
Funny when punks call someone they never met a punk. Maybe the "kid" was hungry or wanted something to munch on while watching TV. And as far as who attacked who, Zimmieboy's story is so full of holes it stinks to high heaven, yet many of you are so ready to believe him.
Plotinus
So poke the holes in his story. What is wrong with Zimmerman's account of what happened?
Well I've ran to the store for snacks that late at night on many occasion. But does it really matter what and why he was going to the store. The same could be asked of George; what was he doing at that time of night?
I really hope that the justice systems is fair in this case. I want the pool of peers to base their decision off of facts and evidence versus emotions.
As far as George's account, he hasn't changed it.
slodon
I dont think there is nothing wrong with his account but why didnt the police investigate properly thats who i blame not Zimmy
Slodon,
He was getting into his car when Trayvon jumped him was what I heard. You can go from there. Broken nose with no bloody shirt another. I am not here to argue this case, just to say I think many of you are real peckerheads from reading the posts. Or maybe you don't even know what a peckerhead is. Come on down to New Orleans then.
Plotinus
I think your anger should be directed at the police dept because had they cross there T's and dotted there i's there would be no room for speculation, had they kept his gun, gave him a drug and alcohol test took good pics as well as kept his clothing, oh and maybe took the time to call his parents (treyvons) that would all have helped zimm would not need a body gaurd right now would he?
Again "Stand means to not move. Zimmerman moved he did not stand he chased after and ask for trouble." Also they were a long way from the car.
BAX-Common-Sense

While I am leaning in the same direction just a few POINTS to clear up. We don't find people innocent. We presume innocent until proven guilty. We find guilty or not guilty.
Gun rights is not a debate, at the moment, in this case. Will be eventually.
The entire encounter happened between 7:00 and 7:30. Even if it was 11 as you stated, he was 17 and the store was open. I can't swear to it but I don't believe there is a civil curfew in that area that is enforced.
Plotinus
Surprised you didn't hit him up on the time frame... maybe you haven't followed the story all that much?

I keep reading your comments "what I heard" How about you read some of the stories posted on various news outlets. Even wikipedia has some facts. you ARE hear to either argue or stir things up with your commetns... especially with your name calling.
To avoid being shot by the neighborhood watchman.
don'tjudgedude,
I don't enjoy getting angry. Bad chemicals in the blood. I'm outta here. You guys can hammer and chew on this all you want. Good luck. It was just that some dickhead calling a murdered innocent kid he never met a punk flipped my switch.
It was 7:00 PM, not 11:.
And, you know this how? If you were a direct witness to this altercation you should be talking with the investigators, otherwise.........
Plotinus so far every "Fact" you have pointed out is wrong. That is what the issue here is. Poople are so worked up and they don't know the "facts" here they just know what some forums post and honestly Im ashamed and nbc and msnbc and the today show. They have ALL twisted this with "facts" that have been shown to be false. Problem is most base their opinion on these bogus facts and then never want to change when the real facts are presented. Just to clarify he never said he was getting back in his truck. He said he was WALKING back to his truck.... Huge difference... www.wagist.com has more information you can read on there.
AlaskaGirl-759554
with 11 statements above yours... who was that addressed to? The TIME of the shot is between 7:13 and 7:19 most likely 7:16 or 7:17 based on time stamps and transcripts of the 9-1-1 calls.
maybe people are confused because Martin was returning from the 7/11 store. George was reported to be returning from Target.
Hey, A$$ -- why is Trayvon a punk? He was minding his own business walking down a public street in his gated community and not involved in any criminal activity.
dan
here are some facts
the police never tested zimm for drugs or alcohol, but they tested trayvon
they gave him his gun back before even performing any type of ballistic testing
and they never took his clothes, or took good before pictures
and last but not least they waited 3 days before notifying the parents
that's what upsets me not Zimm he could be telling the truth i don't know but the police is still suppose to do there job it does not seem like they did there job properly.
Your "facts" are somewhat skewed and are based on rumors, which makes them not facts, but just more rumors. I can't say for sure what happened with your first 3 rumors. Some reports say otherwise, but I don't believe much from the media these days.
I CAN tell you that the last rumor you shared, the one about his parents not being notified for three days is completely false. The local news was interviewing Trayvon's father and the girlfriend of Trayvon's father the day after the shooting.
The police did their job according to how they should've done their job in a self defense case.
How could he be getting back in his car when the fight and killing happened in an area behind the houses on the street? How was Trayvon on top of Zimmerman and shot but ends up face down on the ground? If Zimmerman rolled Travon off of him he would be face up. Funny how we've had no info on the entry wound. Was he shot in the front or back? Zimmerman has quite the record too, yet all of you racist redneck scum keep calling Trayvon a punk. You nothing about him other than he was black. That's all the criteria needed to profile this kid after the fact, yet it's so out of the question that Zimmerman would do the same!!? Who are ya'll trying to lie to? Everyone else or yourselves?
Newtmike you sound like you know what your talking about could you give me a link to where to find the info i found this link iki pe dia.org/wiki/Shooting_of_Trayvon_Martin and i stand corrected the parents were notified the next day you are right but every thing else i said remains still facts based off the same link i provided. (i tried to paste a link not sure if it showed i put spaces in it and if it didnt show google travon and go to wikipedia they have all the info
leave the h-t-t-p stuff off to paste a link
This is in answer to Slodon:
Hole #1
He said OK to the dispatcher and discussed where he was going to meet a police squad car. Instead he continued following the kid.
Hole#2
He said that he was the one calling for help. Two independent voice experts have said that the voice crying out just before the gun shot was most likely NOT that of George Zimmeran. Trayvon's mother identified the voice crying it as that of her son.
Hole#3
His first attorney indicated that his nose had been broken, from pictures taken the night of the fight, his nose looks the same as it in the booking photo taken years ago from his arrest stemming from assaulting a police officer.
More issues
-There isn't any proof that the photo of the back of his head that magically materialized just before he turned himself in was taken the night of the event.
-There is EVERY reason to believe that George Zimmerman is completely at fault for the events that followed because he was specifically told not pursue the young man and he did anyway.
-He called himself a neighborhood watch Captain in a community that doesn't have an official neighborhood watch. He didn't follow the rules as set out by Neighborhood Watch nationally which is simply to watch and report. He instead confronted the kid. We know this because Trayvon was on the phone at the time of the altercation (phone records corroborate this), and his girlfriend will testify that Trayvon said he was being followed, had picked up his pace in order to try and get away, and just before he was shot, she heard him ask George Zimmerman why he was following him.
-He claims he was seriously injured with a broken nose and a bleeding head, but a recording of the emergency workers the night of the incident shows that they canceled a second ambulance for him and he did not go to the hospital that night to have himself treated. I would also recommend you google pictures of a broken nose.
-The undertaker who handled Trayvons body at the Funeral home says there were no bruises or scars on his hands or knuckles that would indicate he had been in a desperate fight.
-People like Jeb Bush who were instrumental in the passage of the Florida Stand Your Ground Law have said that this law would NOT apply to George Zimmerman.
And that is just what has been made known to the PUBLIC. There is also likely evidence from an autopsy, evidence of the bullet trajectory that would indicate what position he was in when he shot Trayvon and would either strengthen or weaken his account of what happened when he fired his weapon.
George Zimmerman has had accusations of violence against him in the past. he has had a restraining order against him, been arrested for assaulting a cop and allegedly lost a job as a bouncer because he was too aggressive with party goers. There had been complaints about his aggressive behavior before from neighbors inside the gated community where he shot that kid.
Now there are stories floating around that he was attending school, studying criminal justice at community college because he wanted to go to law school. However, initially his story was that he wanted to be a police officer. Hence his riding around a gated community with a weapon, harassing people, and calling 911 dispatch over 40 times within the last few weeks.
This was bound to happen and anyone who thinks this guy is innocent and innocently shot this kid while trying to protect himself is delusional. It makes no sense.
Well ... you know what... whether or not you want to... the clowns in city hall, will most likely spend your money for you no matter what you want... because here is a fat low expectation called Zimmerman, who found a way to not only kill someone, and who will most likely get a way with it, because he is claiming to be this poor little hispanic boy who is unfortunate.... but he is going to live off of you all also... and enjoy every minute of it...!!!

How about holding the entities responsible for the "racial bias" outcry? You know, like NBC for editing the 911 call to make it sound like he was racially profiling when in reality all he was doing was answering the dispatcher's questions. Or how about all those other people, to include POTUS, for jumping on the racial bias bandwagon whom we aren't hearing from anymore now that more of the FACTS are available. Have THEM foot the bill for his security and leave the taxpayers out of it.
20 @!$%#s beat an inocent white man to get justice. chicken @!$%#.
AH - you are referencing Matthew Owens, correct? Interesting how that is not receiving national airtime as well.
edited: the link to the local news report wont post, but a google of his name will pull the story as run on WKRG channel 5 news.
When O.J. killed two white people not a peep out of the black cimmunity.
O.J. was arrested and tried for murder. He did not walk out of jail (nor was he granted bail) until after he was acquitted. Like comparing apples to oranges.
It's called the straw man argument...! What a weak mind to even compare the O.J thing
LMAO...!!!
I'm not defending him but i will say this: I hope he gets a bodyguard at the expense of taxpayers. People who have nothing to do with this and are stirring the pot deserve to be hit with that bill. He was arrested like everyone wanted so let it go and let the court decide his fate. Stay out of it or pay his defense and legal fees. Oh and on another note: There was a big event last year where 5 black guys attacked 2 white kids and murdered them in cold blood on the street including raping and pissing on both of them before killing them. Why didn't that get this kind of attention?? Where was the public outcry?? These 2 kids looked like they could be Bush's kids at the time by the way.
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504083_162-5246779-504083.html
well im a tax payer and i dont wanna pay for his body gaurd im black and i can care less what happens here it wasnt my son and i also dont have a clue as to what happened that evening.
I think NBC,Al and Jesse need to pony up. They are responsible for the Racial BS that has happened. The NBP should be in jail for the Bounty thing.
Mike....I did look at the link. My heart goes out to the 2 kids who were killed. That killing was senseless. I just wish that we would place a race filter on and read and/or view a story for what it is...5 guys killed and raping 2 unsuspecting kids.
And your question has been asked and answered. The media picks and chooses which stories get nation wide attention versus local spots. I wish it were easier that is something we consumers need to address the networks.
That's my point Jenn. The media doesn't place a race filter and never will. And they get everyone all riled up when people don't take the time to sit back and say hey, there are tons of racial instances that we could get upset about. It shouldn't be about race - but that's what they've made this for their big ratings and the public bought into it.
Were the perpitrators questioned by police the night of the crime and then allowed to walk home?
Did over a MONTH go by before charges were filed against the perpitrators?
Did the investigator's desire to bring charges get overridden by his superiors?
Did 3 days go by before the victim's families were notified??
Did the police perform drug tests on the victims and NOT on the perpitrators??
DUDE! You and everyone else that brings up this "where's the outrage over this other story of blacks killing whites... blah blah" are comparing APPLES to ORANGES and making a FALSE ANALOGY.
The public outrage over the Martin/Zimmerman case would NEVER have gotten so out of hand HAD THE POLICE DONE THEIR JOB TO BEGIN WITH and NOT ATTEMPTED TO PROVIDE COVER FOR THE PERPITRATOR!!
It is NOT the RACE of the two parties involved that created the public outrage, it was the POLICE NEGLIGENCE!! NONE of which existed in ANY of these other lame examples put up by you Zimmerman defenders.
@John, Indiana
Where exactly are you getting the information that the police provided 'cover', or were negligent? The police are very aware of the SYG law and also understand that they must have proof that it wasn't self defense in order to make an arrest. How many husbands, or wives for that matter, are questioned and released in the disappearance/death of their spouse...only to be arrested at a later point?
Do you think that the police have released all information to the media? If you do...I have a bridge to sell you. In ongoing cases...very little is released.
MSM has taken what little there was and projected a story that is very myopic. They've printed statements from the funeral director...not the medical examiner. They've had their 'experts' review the cries for help and made a definitive determination without having all of the evidence. They've doctored the 911 calls to make it appear that there was racial profiling. They've printed alleged racial slurs that weren't there. They portrayed a photo of the victim that was years younger to make him appear as an innocent child and a photo of Zimmerman in jailhouse orange that screams 'Guilty'. MSM has created and fed a frenzy.
While I am not defending Zimmerman...I also cannot join the frenzy who believe he is guilty based on the MSMs myopic opines.
By the way, I am distressed that Zimmerman has to be conce
I meant to put comment 8.7 in comment 2.23.
John, Indiana
You are RIGHT! If the police had done their job in Feb, none of us would know Trayvon and GZ's names.
Bringing up and comparing other stories, showing "blacks" as murderers is THE PROBLEM here, not Sharpton, media, or anything else...if he had been arrested when he committed the crime, no one would be looking for him!
If he's NOT safe on the outside, they should have left his ass in jail!
If you think the King (Rodney and Martin) riots were bad wait until the Zimmerman riots begin. I'm going to renew my NRA membership tomorrow...
He will walk when the evidence is presented in court!
Don't count on it. Under Florida law, beating a manslaughter charge is very difficult, and carries a stiff penalty. If the jury can not agree on second-degree murder, they will convict him of manslaughter.
I can honestly care less about this yes this is tragic and i understand why the parents are doing this but there is more important issues out there and we always let cases like this and casey anthony take our attention from the huge problems we face like our economy
So you are saying the economy is more important than some ones life. Say that if it was your child.
uh the way our economy is going i would say its more important we get that straightend out again if it was my kid i would have done what travon parents was doing and if he was found not guilty then i would kill him myself but travon isnt my son and i honestly cant say i could put myself in there shoes. sorry not tryna be a prick.
Knowing the way folks think in Florida, my guess is that they will think that it is ok to let him out on bail from jail protection then spend taxpayer money to protect him like he was in jail.
If he wants protection then why did he want out of jail he was safe there. Also why should he get better treatment than any one that is on charges?
So, you're saying anyone who is currently threatening him has that right because he should have remained in jail?
He should be provided protection...at the expense of those who have portrayed him as guilty. Either that or give him his gun back...he should at least have the right to protect himself.
Bdune: That is incredibly funny, had a bad day at work needed that laugh.
Slodon: Here's your holes:First off who was screaming for help, not Zim like he says-Two experts already stated that.Secondly, you tell me how you can shoot someone center mass when he is on top of you and pounding your head on concrete.Third: Trayvon's body was face down, how does that work.If Trayvon was on top and Zim shot him,he falls on Zim-Where is the blood. And remember Zim started this whole chain of events. As for tax payers footing the bill for his protection-That is so incredibly absurd.
maria, can you explain how a short out of shape white guy could catch up to a running tall athletic black kid? i can't explain this... to me it seems so illogical that george could ever catch up to trayvon
for those 2 who will confirm that Zimmerman was screaming there will be 2 others to dispute. to your 2nd & 3rd point-would have been possible that he was turned away from him?
I only ask because I've read and heard multiple new reels on the chain of events that night.
And I am soooooo in agreeing with you...we as taxpayers should not foot the bill. If that is approved then each suspect from here on out will ask for the same.
bob its possible that trayvon stopped running because he was lost in the first place thats why he was looking at the houses but i dont know this is speculation lets just wait and see what the case reveals if zimm's telling the truth he will be fine.
Maria, even Trayvon's father said it wasn't Trayvon screaming on that 911 tape. And let's face it, an"expert," will say anything you want them to say if the price is right.
Bob:How in the world do you come up with short and pudgy ??? The man I saw in the police video was not pudgy at all,wow that's funny-HaHaHaHaHa !
maria, where did i say pudgy, maybe you should re-read my comment - i said short and OUT OF SHAPE - i surmised he was out of shape because it has been said that he seemed out of breathe on the 911 call after chasing trayvon. reading is not obviously not you strong suit. nice dodge of the question too
According to the girl Trayvon was on the phone with, he was not running - he was walking. So yeah, short out of shape white guy could have caught up with athletic black kid.
What we NEVER heard in any accounts was Zimmerman - the neighborhood watch guy - asking Trayvon what he was doing in the gated community. A conversation could have cleared the whole thing up. But by all accounts, questions, explanations and identifications where never made.
Zimmerman followed Trayvon, Trayvon did not know why, whatever happened after that is a one-sided story from the winner of the gun fight.
BashfulRabbit
Actually that same girl claims that words WERE exchanged ... "what are you doing here?" "why are you following me?" Then the phone cut off.. she claims she heard it fall/drop then the call dropped.. not sure how that can be heard but that is the claim.
In her earliest reports to the police, the girlfriend said that Trayvon DID run, but then went back to find Zimmerman, because he wanted to know why he was following him. She told him to keep running, but he said no. She reported that Trayvon said, "Why are you following me?" and THEN Zimmerman asked, "What are you doing here?" Then she claimed that she could hear Trayvon being pushed and that he fell in the grass where the phone then broke and cut off.
Of course, this is all according to the media's version of the girlfriend's earliest reports, so who knows what the real truth is?
Also, I'm kind of skeptical about her reports, because I'm just not sure how she could possibly have heard the pushing and the falling in the grass and the phone breaking before it cut off.
It seems obvious to me that the community activists have helped her memory a bit, as her story has changed since then...
That's not what I heard. She told him to run, and he said no, he would walk fast. I don't remember hearing anything about Trayvon going back to find Zimmerman. Do you have a link to back that claim up? I didn't think so.
trm2008
I think we all need to wait until either her police statement is released or an actual word for word interview is released into the public on the girlfriend. Right now both sides are relying on hearsay of hearsay at best. The only NEAR fact we have on her phone call is the T-mobile usage printout that shows there were two calls from someone that night around the time this all went down. The next call she makes from that number is March 3 to 9-1-1. which would be 5 or 6 days later. I'm not saying she didn't make other calls from another phone but the number her and Trayvon spoke on is remarkably silent for a teen girl this day and age.
Plotinus,
You actually believe that crap? Zimmermans story doesn't seem to have ANY holes in it. This wouldn't be an issue at all if it were not for the race baiters. By the way you wouldn't happen to be black, would you?
Actually, this wouldn't be an issue at all if it weren't for the DA interfering with the lead investigator's recommendation for an arrest.
DonKeehawtee another blatant FALSE "fact". The lead investigator NEVER recommended an arrest. This has already been confirm by both HIM and the SPD. He said after his investigation he found that GZ did nothing wrong. PLEASE learn the facts here. That "manslaughter" was put down as what the "potential" crime was BEFORE the investigation was done.... Arggggg people.....
LOL Dan...you actually expect people to grasp reason and logic? MSM has portrayed a story that according to many are the facts and nothing but the facts.
cms5 - I know I'm fighting a losing battle with people who only have emotion to go on. They won't look at the facts. The just HAVE to believe this 6'3" tattoo'd, gold grill 160+lbs "KID" was just an innocent victim here. The can't deal with the facts that show he assaulted Mr. Zimmerman. If it comes out he was high on marijuana that night it will not matter to anyone anyway.... GZ had every reason to think this kid was up to something. His behavior was suspicious. Even staying with someone wandering around behind the buildings you don't live in and hanging around the closed clubhouse is going to arouse suspicion. Why didn't he just tell GZ "Hey I'm staying right down here with my Dad's girlfriend".... This could have been avoided. GZ did not set out to shoot a "kid' that night.... Especially when the COPS WERE ON THE WAY.
Maria
There is an eye witness who says it was Zimmerman who was yelling. Now I would call that more creditable than a sound heard from several feet away and through a wall over the phone and recorded at the other end.
How can you see red blood on a red jacket on grainy video? Gunshot wounds don't usually bleed profusely from the entry wound on the exit you bet.
Can you get somebody to lay on you and you roll out from underneath them? Give it a try you will find that it is possible for the person on top to wind up face down.
There is only one John Doe that says it was Trayvon on top and NO witnesses I know of have said it was Zim screaming.Remember I did say two experts, but I guess you know better than them. There were also witnesses that say Zim was on top and the screams were that of a young man.The second video was not grainy at all-No blood on jacket or shirt.
Maria
But one man's testimony could be key for the police.
"The guy on the bottom who had a red sweater on was yelling to me: 'help, help…and I told him to stop and I was calling 911," he said.
Trayvon Martin was in a hoodie; Zimmerman was in red.
The witness only wanted to be identified as "John," and didn't not want to be shown on camera.
His statements to police were instrumental, because police backed up Zimmerman's claims, saying those screams on the 911 call are those of Zimmerman.
http://www.myfoxtampabay.com/dpp/news/state/witness-martin-attacked-zimmerman-03232012
Zimmerman's voice was ruled out as being the one screaming for help. It was Martin screaming for help SlowDon, give it up already. He was screaming for help right up until he was shot. Zimmerman was in control at the end for some time before he shot this kid, so even if you buy the BS story of his head being bounced off the path by this scrawny kid, it doesn't matter, Zimmerman was in control at the end and murdered the kid.
Maria sorry your wrong.
1. John said point blank Zimmerman was on the bottom and yelling for help.
2. So did the young boy. He could not see Travyon well but said that GZ was yelling for help and on the bottom.
3. NONE of the witnesses claim to have seen ANYTHING until after the shot came. The only other one to claim to see anything said the "bigger" man was on top. Treyvon is about 6'3" and Zimmerman is like 5'9". Who would you think is the "bigger" man in that scenerio.
4. GZ said that after he shot him he got on top of him because he didn't want to get hit again. He did not realize how bad he was hurt.
5. Again no one "saw" GZ on top until after the gunshot.
6. No EXPERT has confirm that is not GZ screaming on the tape. The prosecution confirmed this at the bond hearing.... The guy who said it "was likely not" is also selling his product and this same software only matched RICHARD NIXON giving 2 different speeches at 86%. didn't this expect say it should be at least 90% to be sure. Richard Nixon has one of the most distinct voices ever. So please this guy had an agenda. Plus TWO eyewitnesses and the family and GZ all confirm it was him screaming. Why is this even debatable?
7. Did you not see the photo of his busted and bleeding head taking about 3 minutes after the shooting. Guess you feel that is fake?
8. There doesn't need to be blood on his shirt or jacket. It was a 9mm single shot. He would not have likely bled past his hooie.... This isnt the movies you don't get splatter 40 feet away....
Again people please try and learn the facts here.
Maria
So the eye witness is lying? Why would he lie? Isn't his observations more creditable then the sounds from several feet away through a wall over a phone line onto a recording?
Leroy
That little play on my name is not original at all. Can't you guys be creative?
leroy brown
Zimmerman's voice was ruled out as being the one screaming for help. It was Martin screaming for help SlowDon, give it up already. He was screaming for help right up until he was shot. Zimmerman was in control at the end for some time before he shot this kid, so even if you buy the BS story of his head being bounced off the path by this scrawny kid, it doesn't matter, Zimmerman was in control at the end and murdered the kid.
long time no see :)
The expert said he could not MATCH the voice with certainty beyond 48%. The expert did not say it was Trayvons voice. From a legal aspect only POSITIVE proof is acceptable. You have no proof who was in control near the end or for how long.. we agree the screams continued until the shot.
Trust, you are either too simple-minded to understand the voice test or are willfully playing ignorant. Zimmerman's voice was ruled out quite conclusively and the tester was very happy with the sound quality he had to work with. There is not a 50% chance of it being Zimmerman's voice, there is virtually NO chance. There is only one other possiblity of who was screaming, why don't they just test Martin's voice? Oh yeah, they can't, he's DEAD!
Really? You don't think they could find a video of Trayvon talking and use that to do a voice test? Oh, but that might hurt their case, wouldn't it?
TRAYVON'S FATHER SAID IT'S NOT HIS SON SCREAMING FOR HELP. That's good enough for me.
slodon - so you would believe an account brodcasted by Fox TV? Are you sure the witness named "John" is not Frank Taafe, Zimmerman's #1 fan?
No Newtmike, he didn't say that. He said that he wasn't sure, because, unlike Zimmerman's family, he was being honest about it. Zimmerman's voice was ruled out. Who else would have been screaming for their life at that moment? Were there OTHER life and death struggles going on right there at that time?
First of all, I want to say that what happened to Trayvon, should never have happened, he should not have been followed by Zimmerman, and Zimmerman should have never left his vehicle. Zimmerman should have stood down from the incident, as the 911 dispatcher told him to do.
The more I hear about this case, the more I wonder if young Trayvon did indeed assault Zimmerman first, because HE FELT THREATENED by Zimmerman. Maybe Trayvon was (as the law states) 'STANDING HIS GROUND', thinking that Zimmerman was some kind of thug~following him, questioning him. If that be the case, then they BOTH in part have contributed to this horrific situation.
I don't know how, UNDER THE CURRENT LAW on the books, how Zimmerman can be tried and convicted. I think that BOTH parties were 'standing their ground'. Both over reacted. HOWEVER, there may be other charges that can be brought against Zimmerman. Possibly interfearing with a police call etc.
This is such a SAD story, and I'm sure that if I were Trayvon's parent, that I would want JUSTICE for my child. And I would lobby to have that 'stand your ground' law to be changed. My heart goes out to the Martin family. I hope they can find peace, and satisfaction.
Ok leroy so why is it that NO TESTS have been made against Treyvon's voice? There are samples readily available on the internet. I'll tell you why because it would RUIN the Martin's family's case. God people wake up. READ the guys website who did the tests about what a VALID sample is.. Come on for crying out loud he only matched RICHARD NIXON at 86%.... What if they run Treyvon and you only get 36% match will you all say "wow we were wrong". Your sooooooo fixated on this "voice match". BOTH have claimed the original sample is not what they would use as valid and the PROSECUTION has SAID THEY CANNOT DETERMINE WHO IT IS. Know why??? Because the sample sucks and you just can't... Sorry you don't need to prove it IS him screaming you need to PROVE it is NOT him screaming. This is america people.... come on.... I've found videos of Treyvon talking. Where is the "audio experts' trying to prove this is really Treyvon??? Oh yeah that's right NOWHERE. Crump doesn't want it to come out it's 100% not Treyvon now does he?..... Pfffttt - Yeah so the father says its not him but we totally disregard that right??? 2 witnesses, GZ and his family and friends say its him but they are ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL lying....
I have a few points where I see negligence. Both for Trayvon and Zimmerman.
Zimmermans negligence:1. carrying his weapon while on neighborhood watch duty, when told by the police instructor that gave a presentation at Twin Lakes to not carry a weapon. 2. following a suspect, when told by the police instructor that gave a presentation on NW at Twin Lakes to not follow a suspect.3. Leaving his vehicle to follow the suspect. 4. Leaving his vehicle with his gun.
Trayvon's negligence:1. failing to run home. 2. Throwing the first punch, if that turns out to be true.
Both have negligence, but there is more negligence attributed to Zimmerman, he made two big assumptions that night that caused Trayvons death. 1.Assumed Trayvon was going to committ a robbery 2. Assumed Trayvon had a weapon(he stated this at the bail hearing "I was unaware of weather or not he had a weapon). Those 2 assumptions were incorrect and they ended up putting Zimmerman in a situation where he caused a death! He should be liable, was it murder, I don't think so, but definitely some type of negligent homicide. He shouldn't have got out of his car until he was 100% that Trayvon had committed a crime that evening.
@Reni-1459961
At least you are keeping an open mind. Trayvon would not have been covered under the current law. The law requires a reasonable belief that force (including deadly force) is needed to prevent serious bodily harm (or death). Being followed does not cover that. Being verbally accosted does not cover that either, unless someone is standing in front of you with a weapon threatening to kill you (though, more likely the weapon allows the escalation of force).
As far as we can tell, Zimmerman did not pull his firearm until he was attacked. That means Martin did not know about the firearm until after he attacked Zimmerman. "Following" does not allow for deadly force, nor does it justify assault. Assault does allow for deadly force, and it does justify a killing.
Mistakes were certainly made by both parties, this did not need to happen like this, but it did, and like it or not, it happened in such a way that Martin was at fault and Zimmerman is justified in his actions.
Trayvon had the right to fight like hell to get away from the person that was following him, and we have no evidence that GZ was attacked by Trayvon, in fact there is evidence that it was GZ that confronted Trayon, not the other way around. What if GZ grabbed hold of Trayvon, so he could keep him till the police arrived, and Trayvon fought to get away, did Trayvon have the right to "stand his ground"? Trayvon had no idea who GZ was, he could have been trying to abduct him, for all Trayvon knew!
All we have is GZ's account, but when you listen to the 911 call that has someone screaming for help for at least a minute before the shot is fired, it seems to me, GZ is lying!
Confronting? You mean asking what are you doing here looking in windows? Why are you out wondering the neighborhood in the rain? That may not be "appropriate? but it is not a threat nor does it pose bodily injury or death. THAT is the requirement of SYG. YOU have ZERO evidence that George GRABBED Trayvon. NONE.
Not sure how anyone screaming constitutes someone lying. The eyewitnesses that states who was screaming are in conflict.
Jenn:The only two experts I know of both say it was not Zim.As for the turning away thing:That doesn't jive with Zim's statement nor what his father and brother stated that Zim told them.I am glad I don't live in Florida, and you have a very good point concerning future suspects.
I think it's time for America to stop calling blacks a minority. Take away Black History Month, minority loans, minority college benefits. It's like being in a relationship where one person is always taking and is never grateful.
Can we get rid of black unions while we're dreaming of actual REAL equality, instead of this whole idiotic mindset of, "Let's cater to the black guy so we don't get called racists," CRAP?!!!
I like most of the people I know and associate with. Guess what race they are?
You'd be wrong if you guessed anything but human. Black, white, purple... why does it matter? We're all human beings and we're all God's children. I am sick to death of CERTAIN blacks crying racism all the time and making sure race is ALWAYS an issue! THOSE people should be held accountable for all this crap!
Donna, try using a dictionary. Just read the posts to see racism on this very story. Even better, read any comments on the NY Post.
Do you think white folks saying President O'bama is a Nigerian Muslim Communist are basing those statements on fact. WAKE UP.
The first time a white man was convicted of murdering a black person in the US wasn't until the 1960s. At that point over 3300 blacks had been lynched in the USA, and many many more were murdered in other ways.
Bob: Not dodging your question at all.And he was not out of shape either,in fact he looked very muscular on the video, like he works out.And so what if he was out of breath, what the hell does that prove ? He obviously did catch up to him.Oh,that's right you actually think that Trayvon doubled back even though he was very close to his fathers girlfriends house-Cause we all know he's a thug and drug dealer, yeah right !!
muscular? every picture of him has been in a sweater, coat or suit, how can you tell? is there any evidence that GM ever caught TM Is there any evidence as to who started the fight or who confronted who? didn't think so... thank you for playing... please notice i didn't say pudgy in this post either
No I think he doubled back because its the only logical explanation how he was killed AT THE OTHER END OF THE COMPLEX maria.... Do you know any of the "facts" so far or just some MSM lies???
So a 6'3" kid who plays football and is in great shape got caught by a 5'9" man who was out of breath in about 20 seconds??? That's fantasy.... Or GZ should be running the 100 Meters in the next olympics. Face it with the head start he had Usain Bolt could not have caught him before he got home...
Why? Is he walking down the street wearing a hoodie, eating skittles and drinking tea????
I love it-HaHaHaHaHa !! I am glad I don't live in Florida and have to use my tax dollars to protect this scum.Like someone else here said:Does this mean future suspects can get protection with tax dollars.
he should have the same protection as the young man he murdered. had he minded his business as the 911 operater asked him to, this would be a moot point. he killed that young man
Because in a place that has had 8 breakin's that year alone "minding your own business" is how the crime continues. Maybe if this kid would have gone home or did anything other than assault GZ this would not have happened? Perhaps if his dad would have stayed home and grounded him this would not have happened. Perhaps if an asteroid had not hit near mexico 65 million years ago the dinosaurs would still be ruling the earth and he would still be alive. Face it everything GZ has said happened has been PROVED so far. The "audio experts" are a joke. Notice how NO ONE else has tried? The all said the sample is garbage. How come both TM's dad and brother did not say it was TM screaming for help? IIRC they both said it WASN'T....
Maybe if Zimmerman would not have gotten out of his vehicle and pursued Martin this would not have happened. Martin WAS on his way home when some random stranger decided to stalk a young man who was doing nothing wrong. His duties as a neighborhood watch "captain" are to observe and report. Once he got out of his vehicle to pursue Martin he had overstepped his bounds. He never once identified himself to Martin and even when Martin asked him why he was following him, he didn't identify himself as the neighborhood watch, all he did was ask Martin what he was doing there based on what his gf claims. For all Martin knew this person pursuing him was out to harm him. If Martin felt that his life was in danger, he had every right to protect himself just like you are claiming that Zimmerman did.
I am waiting to hear what Zimmerman claimed that has been proven so far? It has not been proven that he was on his way back to his vehicle. It has not been proven that Martin attacked him. It has not been proven that Zimmerman was the one screaming. As for the eyewitness claiming that it was Zimmerman screaming, if he was close enough to see who was actually screaming, in the dark, in the rain, then he should have been close enough to help Zimmerman out. Why didn't he? The only thing that you have regarding any of that is the word of someone who has everything to lose if he admits that he provoked the altercation. Oh, I am sorry, it has been proven that he has injuries, all that is proof of is that he was in an altercation, not that he was attacked.
I served as the Jury forman on a Manslaughter trial in Virginia. I could not be on the Jury on this case because Zimmerman did not have permission to cary a Gun in his capacity as a watch volenteer NOR did he follow the directions of the Police dispatcher.
He put himself in the position of having to make a very bad decision.
He would be guilty in my mind.
This has nothing to do with race. The press and politicians have created the the race issue.
@Carl Lafoon
He did have permission to carry a gun, he had a Flordia CCW permit. That is his permission. What everyone keeps misconstruing is that he was part of "Neighborhood Watch" the national program that is sanctioned by local police departments. Their neighborhood was part of no such organization, they had an HOA meeting and designated Zimmerman as the "go to guy". He was just a resident who was keeping an eye out for the other residents. Also, a police dispatcher has no authority. They can not give you a lawfully binding order to stop doing what you are doing. A dispatcher telling him to stop is akin to his wife sticking her head out the door and saying "No! It is to dangerous! Wait for the police!". Yes, maybe he should have listened, but he did not have to.
At least we agree on one thing, this has absolutely nothing to do with race.
My grandson just clocked me in the head with a skittle and it hurt! Is it ok if I shoot him?
Yes,only if the gun is loaded with skittles-Lol !!
if he's smashing your head into the sidewalk and saying he's going to kill you
leroy brown
Are you in Florida? Do you reasonably believe your life or body is in imminent danger? If both are yes.. then feel free to use the necessary force to remove the imminent threat... eat the skittles. Otherwise he gets to keep clocking you with skittles.
The crisis has been averted, my grandson is going home now. Incidentally, that is all Zimmerman had to do to handle the "threat" from Martin, let him go home.
Zimmerman was a gung ho phony cop in an unrecognized neighborhood watch carrying a concealed weapon.
He deserves his day in court, and thanks to media pressure, he's going to get it.
Scared of what? Big bad Chicken George has his gun. Or is he only big and bad when it comes to teenaged boys armed with a can of iced tea and a bag of Skittles. Gimme a break.
if you could read... or i mean if you read any story since the bail hearing you would know that he is not allowed to have a weapon
Umm no. Scared of getting your head beat against the ground with a broken nose and someone going for your gun.. Yeah that scared. Guess you wouldn't be huh?
Zimmerman is going to be rich after the charges are dropped in this case. He will be able to sue Florida and NBC at the least.
Harry I usually don't condone that but in this case yes he should. The MSM has slanted this so badly....
Nice fantasy world you live in.
Harry Ballvia Facebook
Zimmerman is going to be rich after the charges are dropped in this case. He will be able to sue Florida and NBC at the least.
Actually the state has limited liability under the law... wages, fees, expenses, lawyer fees.
Maria-2595762
No fantasy.. IF George is not proven guilty the state will be paying the bills and MSM will be very open to liability/slander charges... The state may even be required to help George go after them.
Funny that you think that when you can't get compensated for false imprisonment for decades.
Brain funny you have no idea how lawsuits work in america. He can sue the Today show, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, The Martin Family, Crump, Natalie, NBC and the "audio experts". So he can't sue the state he has a long line of people he can and should get compensation from when he is found innocent....
I doubt Zimmerman has grounds to sue anyone. None of those people have told lies about Zimmerman. Expressing an opinion is still legal in this country.
@trm2008
But repeatedly running a falsely edited 911 tape to destroy someone's character is not.
say592
REPEATEDLY?? That's nonsense, do you even understand what was "edited" in the tape? It changed nothing!
It changed the entire tone of the exchange.
the one question I would like to see answered is:
Why does GZ get to say he "stood his ground" and had the right to end the fight with his gun when he was the chaser, but TM did not have the right to "stand his ground" and defend himself with his fists, when he was the one being chased..??
Because TM instigated the confrontation and would not let GZ retreat. Even IF GZ started the fight when he was yelling for help and for TM to stop. HE DIDNT. Guess what you can still shoot someone then even if you started the fight... No TM had no reason to Stand His Ground. You cannot assault someone because they are following you. SYG is not free rule to shoot/assault someone.... GZ would have had to DO SOMETHING to him first.....
Actually in Florida the only criteria needed to stand your ground and defend yourself is that you feel threatened. If I had someone following me on the street in their car and when I leave the street they get out and follow me on foot, I'd feel threatened. Or maybe you white folk can understand it this way. If you were walking and a black guy followed you in their car and then continued to pursue you on foot when you left the street, you'd feel threatened. My god!, why wouldn't you? He's already a punk because he's black!
One could argue they each had the stand your ground right but Zim brought a gun while Tray brought skittles.
Brain you have NO idea about the SYG law. So far every comment you have made I have read is completely wrong. It's not just "feeling threatened". Ask all the people in jail now who shot someone because they "felt threatened". God another totally misinformed person on the MSNBC forums WOW... Read the damn statute before you spout uninformed drivel...
Apparently so far I read that black people (since you have to explain to use "white folk") feel it is ok to assault someone following you... WRONG... SEE the "meet force with force".. Feeling threatened has ZIP to do with it. Everyone who wants "SYG repealed" has no damn idea what SYG is about... READ....
"A person who is not engaged in an unlawful activity and who is attacked in any other place where he or she has a right to be has no duty to retreat and has the right to stand his or her ground and meet force with force, including deadly force if he or she reasonably believes it is necessary to do so to prevent death or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another or to prevent the commission of a forcible felon"

According to the only witness--George Zimmerman.
And the EYE witness "john"
"John" didn't see who started the altercation. He saw Martin on top. Even Zimmerman's ex-lawyers admitted on national television that George was the only witness to that.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7jkxf-TKYw
trm2008 - yeah and since you have no other PROOF you have to take the witness GZ for his statement. That's how it works... Still someone yelling for help for a minute leads me to believe him too.
trm2008
you are now using YOUTUBE as factual evidence? Maybe if it were surveillance video but there isn't any. The fact IS "John" saw George on the bottom yelling for help. Your statement was only George witnessed that. George was unable to get out from under Trayvon and "John" chose, probably wisely, to call 9-1-1 rather than get involved in a physical altercation.
Two independent researchers have said that the voice is not Zimmerman's.
We need to patent that magic shirt Zimmerman had on. You can shoot someone sitting on top of you and not get a speck of blood on it.
The video is Zimmerman's ex-lawyers giving a press conference on national tv. Yeah, I would say that is factual evidence. Unless you think Zimmerman's ex-lawyers are liars. LMAO
Provide a link to a reliable source that is less likely to edit things. I heard the 9-1-1 tapes on youtube and they had more edits than NBC had. I presume they had concerns over time on youtube. (sarcasm)
So you are now admitting George was on top or still contesting that as well? You know for a evidential fact that there was NO blood whatsoever? Let me guess, you are still relying on the same grainy video that proved George had no injuries from that night.
@BrainCandy-3328906
Actually, it has to be a reasonable threat. Someone following you is not reason enough to escalate to assault. Some assaulting you is reason enough to escalate to deadly force. Ergo, Zimmerman had a right to defend himself, Martin had no valid reason to defend himself, because a crime was not being committed against him.
