5 anarchists nabbed in plot to blow up Ohio bridge

Five men were arrested in Ohio, accused of plotting to blow up the Route 82 Brecksville-Northfield High Level Bridge near Cleveland. Charges are now pending against Douglas L. Wright, 26, Brandon L. Baxter, 20, and Anthony Hayne, 35, Connor C. Stevens, 20, and Joshua S. Stafford, 23. NBC's Brian Williams reports.

Federal agents have arrested five people who were plotting to blow up a bridge near Cleveland, Ohio, an incident not connected to the anniversary of former al-Qaida chief Osama bin Laden's death, officials say.

Douglas L. Wright, 26, Brandon L. Baxter, 20, and Anthony Hayne, 35, were arrested by members of the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force on April 30 on charges of conspiracy and attempted use of explosive materials to damage physical property affecting interstate commerce. Also arrested were Connor C. Stevens, 20, and Joshua S. Stafford, 23. Charges are pending against them.

The five were "controlled by an undercover FBI employee," and agents had them under extensive surveillance for a long period of time. The explosives they allegedly purchased were inoperable.

"There was never any danger," one federal official said.

On what appeared to be the Facebook pages of Hayne, Stafford and Baxter, there were claims that they were affiliated with Occupy Cleveland, which moved swiftly Tuesday to distance itself from the bridge plot.

Occupy Cleveland canceled May Day protest plans to march in the city and hang signs after “we awoke to the news of the arrests,” coordinator Johnny Peskar, 22, told msnbc.com.

'Occupy' protesters hit the street

“We don’t need any implications in this nonsense,” Peskar said.

Occupy organizers had seen a few in the plot hanging around earlier events, but their actions were “autonomous,” he said.

Court documents say the FBI became aware of the men in October. A confidential source told the FBI that they were acting suspiciously at a protest event, wearing masks, talking on radios, and saying they didn't believe in peaceful protest. They carried flags associated with anarchist groups.

From that point on, the informant was in constant touch with the group members. Their goal, one of them said, was to destroy private property "to send a message to corporations." Last November, they discussed setting off smoke grenades on Veterans Memorial Bridge in Cleveland as a diversion while they would be knocking bank signs off the tops of tall buildings downtown.

Federal officials say Wright, Baxter and Hayne describe themselves as anarchists who considered a series of evolving plots over several months.

As Stevens and Stafford came into the plot, they started talking about using explosives.

The informant brought in two people he said could help them get explosives. These people were actually FBI undercover agents. The group members agreed to buy tear gas and gas masks. Two weeks later, they said they wanted to buy plastic explosives.

In late April, they settled on trying to blow up the Route 82 Brecksville-Northfield High Level Bridge. This bridge crosses from Brecksville, Ohio to Sagamore Hills, Ohio over the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

On April 29, they met with the undercover agents and bought what they thought were two homemade bombs for $450. They planned to place them on April 30 but were arrested by the FBI.

The members of this group had a strong desire to commit acts of violence but no idea how to do it. At one point, a member of the group says what they needed was "mainly bleach," because, he said, that's what land mines and hand grenades were made with during World War II.

"The complaint in this case alleges that the defendants took specific and defined actions to further a terrorist plot," said U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio Steven Dettelbach. "The defendants stand charged based not upon any words or beliefs they might espouse, but based upon their own plans and actions."

This story is developing. Please check back for more details.

Sigh. Leave Cleveland alone. This city has enough issues and do not need any help for the race to the bottom. Hopefully this is an isolated incident, because the city is trying to turn around and they do not need people being afraid to visit.

btw: enough with the cheap political jabs. It just feed the trolls on both sides and make the comment board a pain to read.

Sounds like a philosophy only someone with limited life-experience could fall into. I think the government is as corrupt and inept as the next guy .... but "no" government? How does that mesh with common sense? And blowing up a bridge, possibly killing some poor schmuck on his way to a @!$%#ty job that he can't stand ... how does that sync with your anti-conformist ways?!?

I wonder how these people were caught. Look for more political zeal to spy on citizens by listening to everybody's phone calls and monitoring their online use. Yes, I'm glad they were caught before people were hurt, but the Big Brother policies and elimination of civil liberties bothers me.

Funny, how they can catch terrorists and use drones to zap them, but they couldn't catch Bankers when they were ripping off the country. Maybe they ought to be listening in more to Wall St calls and intercepting their emails as a way to protect the country from devastating recessions.

Sometimes, some of these cases against 'homegrown terrorists/extremists' have a familiar smell about them that takes me back to the 60s and 70s when there were a number of instances where the FBI infiltrated various anti-war/anti-government groups, were the instigators of ideas to blow things up or fire bomb building such as ROTC facilities and then after convincing people this was a good idea, then providing them with the materials to carry out the attacks and then busting them. In a number of those instances the people involved had shown no tendency or inclination to violence towards people or property prior to the instigation by the FBI infiltrators.

I'm not saying this is necessarily the case in this situation but it sure seems eerily familiar.

It was more of a rhetorical question. I couldn't dream of wasting the time it would take to read an article about anarchists.

My hunch ... any human being wiling to blow up a bridge with zero regard for the innocent individuals they may kill, doesn't belong to any ideological group other than psychopath.

My hunch ... any human being wiling to blow up a bridge with zero regard for the innocent individuals they may kill, doesn't belong to any ideological group other than psychopath.

Actually there is no indication that there was "zero regard for innocent individuals they might kill" one example being that during the 60s and 70s on a number of occasions when attacks took place on ROTC centers, draft board offices etc. there was great care taken to try to make sure that no "innocents" would be killed or harmed either by planning the attacks for a day, like a Sunday, or time like late at night when ho one would be in the building or by giving adequate warning so that a building could be evacuated. One notable exception was an instance where I believe it was a math professor was killed, I think at the University of Michigan, who happened to be in a building on a Sunday when those responsible for the bombing thought that no one would be in the facility. If memory serves me correctly some of those involved turned themselves in shortly afterwards.

The assumption that because these people intended to blow something up means that they simply don't care about innocent lives is not evidenced by anything in the story.

Chad,

The layman's term for anarchy is crazy people who believe no government should exist as you say; Personally i think there are many loons in this category. But anarchism in the academic sense is more clear about the matter. Trading for everything is the only way to go for them. You want police? Buy it yourself. Fire? Buy it. Army? Buy it. In theory this makes sense and is logical but in reality it is economically inefficient as it is far cheaper for individuals to collectively pay for such services.

These may be anarchists but are more so terrorists

Eventually Gail Sheehy will do a survey that equates mental disorders with believing that Obama is a Muslim, or Obama is not a US born citizen, or Obama is a socialist.

Can anyone explain this ideology to me?

In my collegiate experience back in the 80's, I attended a university in England for a year where it was very trendy to be identified as an "anarchist". I'll admit that, just to be cool, I too wore a punk rock jacket with buttons with a red "A" in a circle on it, but I found in talking with some of these self identified folks, whose government was paying the cost of their education, that this label mostly meant "we want to smoke lots of hash and the government says it wrong, so we should abolish government". Yeah, dead brilliant.

What's in the "anarchist" manifesto?

This I've never read, but I understand it has plans and recipes for bomb making and such. Oh, whoops. Just did a little research... That's the "anarchist cookbook" I was thinking of.

Here's a link to the wikipage on anarchism in general... long history of opposition to government...:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism

Some final thoughts... while government can indeed be the source and cause of many ills, and the essence of the anarchist philosophy seems to be that life would be paradise if there were simply no government, IMHO, we as human beings are not ready for this. When perhaps we might evolve socially to a point where the selfish pursuit of more, more, more for me and mine could be replaced by an attitude of what is best for all, there might be some hope of accomplishing a peaceful society without laws but until such time, the competing needs and desires of the populace dictate that there must be some structures in place to protect private property and ownership of goods.

On a small scale, with a few friends on a back woods commune, it might work out as a social experiment for a while, but anyone who has ever tried to deal with a group of more that ten people in any situation knows you have to rules, and people need to adhere to them, or it quickly decends into... anarchy. And not in a good way.

People are selfish. They will use strength and power and glamour and coercion to get what they want at the expense of others. IMO, it is actually part of the proper function of government to protect the personal rights and property of those who are less fortunate and who lack great wealth and power, else those who do possess the means, if allowed to, would quickly take unto themselves all that they could and leave the rest with none. Perhaps this belief is just a result of my particularly pessimistic point of view about human nature, but based on my experience, that's what happens.

The exposure of the radical left is coming into full bloom, anarchist trying to blow up bridges, occupy Wall street vowing massive disruptions and destruction, with Russian Communist holding supportive marches if the OWS redistribution of wealth scheme is not implemented, and leftist labor unions trying to remove elected officials who dare try stop them from pillaging the peoples treasury, Black racists demanding laws allowing people to defend themselves be repealed, at the same time nothing being said when a young white mother is shot dead by a black woman and her baby stolen from her, or several instances of white men being beaten severly by black mobs or robbed, assaulted, and stripped naked on a major city street by yet again another black mob without a peep about federal "hate" crimes charges from this administration, but, then again, why would they? after all this is the same administration that tried to force Honduras to violate its own Constitution and allow a leftist leader to rig his own re-election and when that failed tried to put sanctions against that Democratically elected Government and,( by sheer coincidence I'm sure), then allowed the arming of anti-government forces in that country with weapons Our "Justice" Department allowed to be sent illegally to them, or the radical EPA closing down Our drilling rigs for deep water drilling, costing this nation thousands of jobs, while increasing the price of gas at home and then allowing the platforms to be sent to the socialist government of Brazil with Obama then assuring them We would be one of their best customers. This along with numerous instances of betraying Our own traditional allies and giving aid and comfort to anti-western elements around the world, and finally, to top it off, and if there was any doubt left in anyones mind what this next election is going to be about , the Obama Administration has now blatantly adapted the old standard Marxist slogan," Forward!" as its own re-election rally cry.

Mike

Don't get me started on the good ole' days of being a punk rocker!!

I was hugely into the scene when I was in high school as well. Some of my favorite music is still punk: Social D, Strung Out, Pennywise, etc.

But the whole anarchy thing just never made sense to me ... as you pointed out, the anti-conformist hypocrisy of the entire scene is easily discovered when one digs beneath the surface a little. That's why my comments were slightly tongue-in-cheek.

There was a great movie a while back, SLCPunk I believe, that touched on this. At the end of the day ... all the chains, leather, studs and ear rings aren't a "movement" ... they are fashion. And what could be more conformist than that?

IMO, it is actually part of the proper function of government to protect the personal rights and property of those who are less fortunate and who lack great wealth and power, else those who do possess the means, if allowed to, would quickly take unto themselves all that they could and leave the rest with none.

They might have had a desire to remove these corporation's displays of power (e.g. signs on buildings). It could have been a non-leathal way to strike against them.

We moved to Northeast Ohio a few years ago --I was amazed at what a wonderful ethnically diverse area of the country this is. It is also very "green" now , which no one talks about. Cleveland is situated on Lake Erie and the very large Cuyahoga Valley National Park which the beautiful / The Cuyahoga river runs through it ( yes, apparently before I was born it was polluted and caught on fire) While I wouldn't say the city is "beautiful' if you drive even 15 minutes out of the city it is AMAZING! There is a Tow Path Trail that is about 75 miles long for biking and hiking right through the forest. There are cute ski slopes, zoos, children museums, The Art museum is the best I have ever seen--I would easily compare it to the Met. Cleveland has operas, orchestras, amazing universities and lots of community theater. The people are really nice too. Northeast Ohio is tops in Biomedical engineering and has some of the best hospitals in the world. Akron which is a large city about 40 minutes south of Cleveland is just as amazing with a beautiful downtown, rich history and gorgeous zoo. I am really glad we moved to Ohio ---- and very grateful that the FBI caught these horrible "people" , I use the bridges all the time!!! People like these idiots should just be locked up for life.

I do remember Ruby Ridge. I also remember that the only good thing to happen that day was that two piece-of-$hit federal agents died at Ruby Ridge. Shot to death, they were. I believe one was a US marshal and the other turd was from the ATF. They were scum, just like the FBI turds who manipulated and then entrapped these five kids in Cleveland.

I do hope that the kids have a good lawyer who is motivated to stick this farce of a case right up the sorry a$$ of the FBI. I can just imagine the FBI goons all high-fiving one another after they took-down these five, very-dangerous terrorists.

The thing that worries me about this case is that it clearly demonstrates the real danger that the Justice Dept. and its thralls in the FBI pose to American citizens.

@ Chad, I still love the original punk esthetic... raw, do it yourself, noisy and loud. You're absolutely right that when that became a fashionable trend you could just go to the mall and buy for yourself, and when those who originally embraced the freedom of expression that the punk movement was spawned from began to codify their uniform and reject anyone who didn't fit the mold and dress like them, the entire movement lost meaning and validity.

P.S. I saw Social D play an awesome show here in Fresno just a year or two ago. They're still touring and sounding great.

That the FBI has some zealots in our employ (yes, we, as citizens, are employing the FBI), and that those zealots (all the way up) broke multiple laws and rights to destroy a group of citizens at Ruby Ridge, does not prove these agents are breaking laws here and today.

It just looks fishy.

IMO it's our job to keep abreast of the situation and support the good agents where ever they are. If we do, they will let us know when the zealots are screwing us over.

And what about the Neo Nazi skinhead in CA who snatched a 16 year old minority girl off a train platform and raped her multiple times before throwing her out of his truck? When trial came and the girl refused to testify because she was terrified of retaliation by her rapists' skinhead buddies, a CA judge threw her in Juvie to make her testify even though CA law SAYS that a rape victim cannot be force to testify against an attacker.

The two cases you mentioned above didn't have much to do with race--the black woman who shot the white mother was seriously disturb, had just had a miscarriage and was looking for ANY baby to snatch, it didn't matter what color or race or gender. She just hung out in a pediatrician's parking lot waiting for the next available woman with a newborn baby to come along.

I'm not sure if there have been others but the one story I saw with a white man beaten severely and robbed/stripped of his clothes by a black mob was drunk and stoned and I have seen mobs of black youths picking on other black youths who were particularly incapacitated by drugs and alcohol. I have seen mobs of whites picking on other whites who have been incapacitated by over-ingestion of drugs/alcohol. This wasn't a hate crime, this was a group of people picking on another person who was stupid enough to get himself stoned (it did NOT require a beating, although I will bet the guy to whom this happened will NEVER walk down a city street while impaired again.) Some people need a hard lesson--and some people are the hard lesson. The people who perpetrated the assault should do jail time for assault and battery and the guy who was assaulted should count himself lucky it wasn't worse and take that as a lesson to always be aware of his surroundings.

TGFD here.

Chad @ Comment #1.49...You are correct when you say that the gov't could lay waste to TGFD's tiny compound if they wanted to; however, the gov't does not know how many weapons are out there, nor does it know where the weapons are. Nor does it know the skill level of the owners. Where would the gov't start in their attempt to confiscate weapons? The gov't does not have the manpower to do that, either.

The gov't also knows that there are people who would not just say, "Oh well" and then-turn in their guns. The gov't also knows that they'd suffer casualties in the process. Just look at the overwhelming force the gov't had at Ruby Ridge, yet two gov't assclowns still took a well-deserved, one-way trip to hell that day, in spite of all the planning, the snipers, the tanks, the helocopters, and the cast of hundreds, who were all there just to take-over a well-known, remote shack that held a man and his small family. They knew exactly where he was, yet still they had trouble.

Dude, I'm no conspiracy theorist, but I do recognize a gov't that has been reading the Communist Manefesto.

A couple disjointed points:

Dude, get over yourself. The government has F22's, atomic bombs, and Predator Drones. I'm pretty sure they could lay waste to your tiny compound without breaking a sweat.

Yeah, 'cuz the Taliban is pretty much destroyed, and the Iraqi insurgency never happened.../sarc

go back to Israel you corporate, backstabbing, ZIONIST WANNABEES!!

You know, it's really, really disheartening to read posts from ostensible "progressives" that read like they were taken verbatim from Stormfront, especially when Israel wasn't even mentioned in the story. Q22, Opinionated, I'm glad you guys are distancing yourself from this guy.

As for the story itself, if all it takes to get you to go in on a plan that, if executed, would result in the deaths of innocents, is some smooth-talking stranger, re-attach yourself to the planet. If you don't like the way the government is doing things, there are plenty of peaceful, legitimate ways to express your disapproval and to seek redress. Plotting to blow up bridges ain't one of those ways.

I just hope this doesn't turn into a Hutaree-type legal fiasco.

Jim: I think it was the Unions and the pro-lifers who collapsed you. Why? I don't know, but they collapse anything that don't like despite the Ist. There must be something upsetting in there.

Jim & Gil - obviously TWO MORE who don't understand the First Amendment.

Shall we review?

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech,

The First Amendment says that CONGRESS SHALL MAKE NO LAW. It says nothing about Newsvine or any other private company ... or the people who post there. If you don't believe it, go tell your boss he/she is a jerk. Bet you'll get fired, and the First Amendment won't help you.

Freedom of speech does not mean that speech has no consequences. The CONSEQUENCE of your post is that people didn't like it, so it got collapsed. Now, had CONGRESS made a LAW that says you can go to jail for posting something THAT would be a violation of your First Amendment rights.

As an aside, I love this topic, because I always try to lobby Newsvine to make it easier to disagree with a post (as is on the sports forums). I believe one of the reasons so many comments are collapsed -- there is no other easy way to disagree. Agree? Hit the up arrow. Disagree? Report or post a comment.

Institute a "down arrow" and I think the number of collapses will be drastically reduced and much more limited to reporting offenses.

TGFD;

I think you have Ruby Ridge confused with Waco, Tx. The only people killed at Ruby Ridge were a 9 year old boy, shot in the back and his mother, shot in the face while holding a baby.

At the Branch Davidian compound there was a FBI agent and U.S. Marshal killed in the opening assault on the compound and a few wounded. Then of course the rest is history and it depends on who you ask what happened to burn everyone up.

Q22, I remember a bunch of protestors in the 60's, not unlike the OWS people, who after a few years became violent. Oddly, Killed people and got off on a legal technicality. The founder of said group found a friend in the current President. You remember Bill Ayers and his peaceful group the Weather Underground, yes?

Ah well, that's a matter of opinion and viewpoint and to Homeland Security it does mean that.

Vancouver psychotherapist Andrew Feldmar has been barred from entering the United States. The reason? During a random stop-and-search at a US/Canadian border crossing, a Google search of his name led to his article from the Spring 2001 'Janus Head: Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies in Literature, Continental Philosophy, Phenomenological Psychology, and the Arts.' In it Feldmar describes two acid trips he took under the supervision of his graduate advisor in psychology -- in 1967. This turns out to have been enough to earn him a life-time ban under the grounds of 'admitted drug use.'

Occupy Cleveland denies any involvement.

Douglas L. Wright, 26; Brandon L. Baxter, 20; and Anthony Hayne, 35, were arrested by members of the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force Monday night on charges of conspiracy and attempted use of explosive materials to damage physical property affecting interstate commerce. Also arrested were Connor C. Stevens, 20, and Joshua S. Stafford, 23.

The complaint said while the group had not figured out how they would demolish the signs, according to Wright, "the signs are the most important part [of the plan] because they need to make sure everyone knows that the action was against corporate America and the financial system, and not just some random acts."

Yeah, that doesn't sound like Occupy's Goals at all. Not to mention that Baxter is considered an organizer of Occupy Cleveland.

This is the kind of thing that really makes me lose respect for a site like MSNBC. This article seems to go to great lengths to fail to mention these guys were part of Occupy, not just protestors but in some cases organizers. Their goals are consistent with the pro-big-government anti-capitalism anarchists that make up a large part of the Occupy crowd, and they are partially representative of that movement. Yet because this site is in the tank for the far left (and I am a social liberal myself probably more than most in this country), this piece rather than objectively reporting this news, has specifically tried to deflect blame from Occupy by failing to link these criminals to the movement. That is just plain reprehensible reporting from a site that still makes at least an attempt at a facade of reporting news rather than propaganda for their political agenda.

It is shocking to me, that anyone person or group of people, could possibly believe blowing up a bridge, would stop the American spirit. These "anarchist" seem to have been raised to hate. I willing to bet, they have no ability to think for themselves. They most likely have a limited education and their leader has been raised to hate anything that does not conform to his limited imagination. They are not brave but they most likely carry guns and believe they are doing what's right. Unfortunately, this kind of thinking is not limited to Cleveland.

It proves to me, education is a vital building block, in preventing such a misguided souls. When men such as these, have never been exposed to anything but hatred and ignorance, Americans had better be prepared for others, who do not know there are better, non-violent ways to express their opinions. It is call the law.

Everyone who is saying that these folks are not part of the Occupy movement should read the article. They admitted to being Occupy members. Typical left wing nut jobs.

Also, I agree with RonInColorado. There have been several arrests the past couple of years in which the FBI has instigated and supplied groups like these to carry out attacks. Even though these idiots are to blame for their actions, so is the FBI. It's along the same lines of inciting riots. It's also running the risk of being entrapment.

The five were "controlled by an undercover FBI employee,"

This article not only says this, but it also says that they were going to use smoke bombs, but then instigated into greater violence, then given the "supposed" means to commit the greater violence.

What the ??? our govt is now instigating people and controlling them into doing worse acts then punishing them for it? Isnt that like having your kid steal a candy bar then spanking them for stealing it afterwards? I thought setting criminals up was illegal, let alone increasing the crime say from shoplifting to armed robbery or something. When did it become the perogerative of the FBI to not only bust criminals, but to make sure they are even worse criminals than they might have been without intervention? I'm not sure what those older than me are talking about in the 50s and 60s, but I'm at least wise enough to listen to what they said and add in what the article is actually saying to believe the FBI probably made these 5 stooges far worse than they would have otherwise been. Probably a political stunt with it being that time again I guess.

They want anarchy, no rule of law?? Let's give them anarchy.

Let's send them to a remote village in the African jungle for a year. Where there is no law, no justice, where you live in fear of roving bands of lawless people raiding your village in the middle of the night, burning your house and raping your mother/sister/daughter/father/brother/son/newborn baby. Where you can be forced at gunpoint to rape your female relative, where you can't pick up the phone and call a cop if someone's breaking into your house. Where there is no electricity, running water or toilets because there's no legal structure to allow a business to set up to give you that. Where there are no computers or TV, no Facebook or social media, and the only people who are around to hear your anti-government views are too busy just finding enough food to survive another day to listen to you.

Maybe then they will realize that yes, while our government has flaws, it's a heck of a lot better than having NONE!

I think the following is likely: they had recruited 10 people to protest and they awoke to find out that 5 of them had been arrested.

President Bush had only been in office since January that year. It has been shown that the Clinton adminsitration missed many intel clues that this was going to happen. No doubt you concurr with the blame Bush for all of Obama's failures even though he has been in office for going on 4 years and has only accomplished making things much much worse. Am I on that list? Most certainly I'm on some list somewhere. I have a weapons stockpile (sword collection), more than 7 days worth of food in my house, am an animal rights activist in my municipality, know several practitioners of Norse Mysticism (Odinists) and as a practicing witch, of course that's a violet religious sect otherwise why would the Christians have tried so hard to stamp us out? So basically you had a bunch of confused big mouths whose greatest fantasies were to vandalize some signs, and then the government steps in and some ambitious up and comer in the DOJ figures to build a name so sends in undercover FBI to slowly coax them into expanding their horizons, teach them about explosives, bring them up to the point where they agree that, hey, maybe blowing up a bridge is a bigger attention getter, then sell them the explosives, then arrest them as violent and bloodthirsty terrorists.

I think these exact same tactics could've worked on maybe half of the 17 to 23 year olds in this country if chosen at random and coaxed along like this.

Does anybody even care about the word "entrapment" anymore?

Absoulutely agree with the post by Beth post #1.68. There should be a down arrow for disagree/dislike rather than collapsing posts. Not a lot of point in it as everybody still has the option to read the comments. Some do not fit into the columns of no value, inflamatory etc. and are just collapsed because they simply don't like what somebody else said. Not right at all!!

DMTT, the Tea Party existed well before 2009. They just changed their name from the conservative movement to something much catchier that year thanks to corporate organization. There was nothing new, grass-roots, or spontaneous about the Tea Party Movement. Same people, same policies, more flavorful name.

I have to wonder how many of these activities were pushed by the undercover FBI agent? I'm sorry but when you send somebody into a group and then use your agent to get them to plan to commit crimes they very well wouldn't have without the suggestion or pressure from the undercover operative it's flat out entrapment.

See the the rant about this is now Obama's wars (he didn't start them, but I agree it's his issue now that he is the president). It's Obama's economy (he didn't start the mess, but I agree he is holding the bag now). So, if that is how it works for the GOP, then being a sitting president when that scum Osama took a bullet to the head is now Obama's administration victory, because it happened under this watch. So go ahead and deny it all you want, it will not change anything. Welcome to how American politics works. You can find other things to pin on Obama, but you cannot minimize this victory for his administration.

Consider the entire chain of events and they all add up to nonsense but of course little Barry will pound his own back for a successful operation with staged photo ops.

                  The right thing to do.

They should have captured Osama alive paraded him around put him on trial found him guilty and hung him.

                  The wrong thing to do.

Instead they shot him, and dumped his body at sea. wink wink yea.

Events like the below smell like a cover up.

The ship Osama was transported to sea on had a huge number of people thrown out of the Navy.

After the event most of seal team 6 you know the team that "conducted" the operation" all died in a helocopter crash.

A series of events that gives the Conspiracy theorists lots of cover

Even more strange is how Brietbarts coroner was poisoned to death.

Very strange how anyone that could refute Government stories dies in a violent or strange manner.

But hey this has been happening for as long as I have been alive.

Yea I don't trust people running government not like we have not been lied to by government before...right?

Sad so many people can't or won't even begin to look at facts and connect the dots through the spin they simply bleet like sheep and run head long off the cliff.

The line that's the most important here is "this has been happening as long as I have been alive", wake up!!!!! The conspiracy is in your head!!. As someone who held a security clearance for many years I can tell you the government is very good at keeping some things secrete, but a cover up of any size in this day and age, with cell phones and sources that "speak on a condition of anonymity because they were not allowed to speak" is almost impossible. Which is more likely, that Obama sent troops on a night mission inside of Pakistan at great political risk to capture someone that did not exist, or that this clown got himself shot during the raid and they decided not to give people a place to gather and morn him? If you want to keep something secrete that the military has done, you don't "kick the people out" that performed it. People that work in this kind of business (intell, military, etc.) usuallydie "in a violent manner", sorry but it comes with the job, it doesn't instantly smell of conspiracy.

Good. Cause I can't stand a Democrat. And I speak for myself, but his "Victory", if you care to call it that, was diminished long before it occurred. And I'm not the only person out there looking to find faith in someone with a little more back bone. Bunch of wimps any more. It's disgusting.

Quite frankly I can't stand the other side of the politics either, but the praise nonsense that goes on continually, the fanatics, absolutely disgusting. You can't say that people don't have a right to be completely skeptical about Obama and his administration. It's been sketchy from day 1. His past prior to presidency was sketchy.

Credit where credit is due though, foreign affairs has probably been his best attribute. Wish he'd go be someone else's president though, not ours. American doesn't need a president with a vested interest in other countries while there is problems on the home front. Ask a married couple which comes first - Foreign affairs or domestic. If it's anything other than domestic, I bet there is a divorce. Pretty damned good correlation there if you ask me.

So be tired of my type. I don't care. I formulate my own opinions and I express them. To bad for you.

As for the Texan remark - when you state, "your governor", that terminology leads one to believe that it would be theirs. Perhaps a slip up in your thought process prior to delivering the remark.

You all disgust me when you give the credit to Obama. Heck any politician. The seals did all the work and you want to give the credit to a disgusting politician whose very goal no matter who he/she is is merely to win votes is pathetic. Not because its Obama. Because its a politician. And you want to give our hard working seals credit to them????? Thats sick. What would have happened to Obama if he said no. He would have been toast. So that means he only had yes to choose. And I dont care if it was bush, lincoln, washington, jefferson or whoever, no wasnt a option unless they wanted the entire U.S. wanting them hurt, gone or something so yes was the only possible answer. Thats why I get so sick of liberals. They will lie or make up stuff or exagerate anything to make themselves look better where the conservatives will eat each other alive if they get out of line. Thats also what gives the smaller liberal party their only strength. It doesnt matter if its right or wrong, evil or good as long as they can stick together and win those things dont matter. The conservatives are most likely doomed to failure because they wont stick together when one of them is wrong or evil, they actually stand against it. But either way quit giving our hard working military's credit to a self serving politician no matter who it is.

The Obama administration DID announced that the war on terror was over not so long ago.

Soooooooo, are there still any liberal koolaid drinkers buying that today?

And, are some of you folks still wanting four more years of our 'Fool in Chief'?

I was not too happy with G.W.Bush, but at least he was no fool when it came to terrorism.

We need a new president and not the 'Community Organizer in Chief'!!

Regarding the "high risk" operation to eliminate Osama: It was only high risk for the soldiers who participated in the mission. Had it gone wrong, the whole thing would have been covered up and we would never have heard about it. Maybe some press release about how some soldiers died in a "joint training exercise." Pakistan wouldn't have wanted to admit that Osama was within their borders, so they would have had no choice but to keep quiet about the whole thing. Obama deserves credit for ordering the operation, but please do not act as if he was the one taking the risk.

President Obama takes more risks than the vast majority of you could ever imagine. That's why he has a cadre of heavily armed special forces protecting him 24/7.

The risks he took regarding the execution of Bin Laden were mostly political and emotional. But, do any of you think there aren't Bin Laden supporters who would dearly love to exact mortal revenge against President Obama ?

How many people do you folks have gunning for you ?

regarding these anarchists being affiliated with the Occupy WS movement: claiming false affiliation is pretty standard fare for would-be evil-doers.

The Seals only needed the go ahead from the President, meaning approval of the mission NOT executive order. What else could Obama say? And please show us where and when Romney said he would not have done the same thing. I have heard him say multiple times he would have done the same thing. Please do not post misinformation.

President Obama could have done, not done, or decided many things other than he did. He could have timidly allowed the Paks to continue jerking our chain as your Dubya and Cheney did (and as Romney proposed). He might have not pressed so hard to find Bin Laden. He could have decided the risks were too great. This list could go on interminably.

BUT, President Obama did what he said he would do. He drove the effort to locate Bin Laden. He did not shrink from entering Pakistan. He brought down American justice upon Bin Laden.

Now, what do you folks do? You refuse to give President Obama credit for the decisions he made, the risks he took, and the success he presided over.

Your approval is not necessary. History will record the facts: President Bush and the GOP presided over the single largest attack upon the American homeland. President Obama brought the perpetrators to justice. Continue to engage in your adolescent games. You only make the distinction between President Obama's incompetent predecessors and his brave and competent team more vivid.

The five were "controlled by an undercover FBI employee,"

This is typical of the FBI. Find one, or a few, mentally challenged and unbalanced individuals who couldn't find their as+es with a map and get them all riled up with nonsense and fears and brow beat them until they finally agree to "help" you with your wild plans. Next step, arrest them and pretend you did something good instead of being the one who invented all the nonsense.

That's why they don't report on the real details of these plans even at trial because then everyone would see the lazy FBI entrapped a few slow witted but otherwise harmless fools just to garner some fake headlines about a fake "threat" that would never have really existed if some FBI clown didn't dream it up.

Anarchist- a word derived from the greek word Archon which means ruler or authority. An ANarchist is someone who believes and desires a world without rulers or authorities. To band together as a team is not counterintuitive to this aim as long as each member of the group is considered equal amongst each other in their own right. Contrary to the group mentality which is parallel to the pack system (such as a pack of wolves) with the Alpha male at the head, and anarchic group reveres the power of the individual and is more akin to a pack of wild cats (not lions) who band together out of desperation against a shared threat (e.g. human) to their individual territories. After said threat is neutralized the pack disperses preferring to re-establish their individual territories apart from one another. I'm not saying that these five follow this system of thought, God knows there's a lot of posers out there just that in its pure form this is what it is.

Watch out, folks! I'm also wondering if they were "anarchists" before or after the FBI started "controlling them"??? Last year I was investigated by the Treasury department for "potential terrorism", at the orders of the biggest criminal in government - Eric Holder - simply because I got into an argument on the phone with an IRS agent when he refused to let me speak to his supervisor. Our government is manufacturing "home-grown" terrorists to divert our attention.

Michelle, to clarify the analogy with biology, perhaps "terrorist" should be considered the genus and "violent anarchist", "radical muslim", or "right wing fundamentalist christian anti-abortion murderer" could be various species under the general umbrella term. They come in all shapes and flavors and are equally dangerous.

I've intentionally applied various qualifiers because contrary to certain folks with narrow beliefs, not all anarchists are violent, not all muslims are radical and not all christians are murderers, just some of them.

                                          Another FBI staged terror plot...

Problem: Bad guys are out to blow up bridges.
Reaction: Oh no, we need to be protected so we can be safe. Hurray for the authorities.
Solution: Real time surveillence and more police state! Microchip everyone so we can track who was going to blow up the bridge!

                                          @cgtrav

You have been added to the brain dead list or operation sockpuppet.

If you're just braindead then please look up operation sockpuppet.

They told you in the story what was really going on it wasn't FBI sponsored but for sure they had a major hand in the plot setting these fools up.

These idiots where infiltrated setup and burned.

The infiltrator is always the one wanting to escalate the brain dead to further grand planning and feats of stupidity.

It really is called false flag for a reason.

I'm just glad they stopped it before anyone was hurt and the "anarchists" really where morons.

Try watching terrorstorm, endgame or invisible empire if nothing else they bring up good points to ponder and make you wonder just who the insane ones really are.

Are the conspiracy nuts really nuts are are there really grains of truth mixed inwith all the crazy sounding stuff?

                                          /Sarcasm on

Are we being told the truth it's understandable why you think your line about tin foil hats is witty but everyone knows they make the mind control beams stronger.

                                          /sarcasm off

What is not understandable is why you would not want to know the truth about the history of state sponsored terrorism?

You know, Bush had the whole G.I. Joe outfit AND the action F-16 Jet that came separately, and he still not only couldn't find OBL (though he said he wasn't really worried about him at all) but declared the war was through seven years before we stopped fighting in it.

I'll take Obama, some night vision oogles, and a canteen over Bush and his entire flight suit any day.

I don't know what you collectively call them, but I know one thing that is destroying our country, people, politicians and organizations that demonize the other side because they disagree with them, rather than working together to solve our problems. You know, like our Founding Fathers did when they wrote the Constitution. Unfortunately politics is about winning, not solving problems.

Both political parties take part, neither is better or worse than the other. We need a third party that is not beholding to corporations, bankers, unions, enviromental special interests, etc. I won't hold my breath...

Humans who need to go to a third world country where anarchy TRULY reigns.

5 Magi geniuses here... We 5 kings of Orient are. Sounds like someone amongst these 5 Einsteins has dual PhDs in explosive ordnance and structural engineering.

Nice mugshot photo montage... we could put it in a musuem of art and label it "Mid-century modern meth-head". Yet another PSA about inbreeding and its deleterious effects on the gene pool is needed. Looks like we've got a new crop of Vanilla Ice replacements here. Somebody queue up the boombox and see who starts dancing and rappin' most impressively... Maybe the "handsome" guy on the right side of the photo.

Let's see, their identities are... (left to right):

"Lead singer for A Flock of Seagulls" , "Poor Curtis/Beaker the Muppet", "Spawn of Carrot-Top and Sammy Hagar Mating", "Amish Paul McCartney", "Handsome-faced Vanilla Ice"

To the corn pones out there suggesting that the FBI set up these, innocent little wankers -- yes, you will definitely need to take off your tin foil hat, take your meds, and put down your crack pipe. Don't worry, you'll probably find these guys in your under-represented prison gang some day, hoping to fend off well-tattooed men 3 times your size.

The five were nabbed in what amounted to an FBI sting, and agents had them under extensive surveillance for a long period of time.

"There was never any danger," one federal official said.

How much you want to bet these were patsy's set up by the FBI to begin with? They can't catch real terrorists, so they have to find delusional wanna-bees, gin up their fantasies, then send them out with stuff that could never work in the first place.

It's the same tired playbook, using the same tired script. It's right on cue. But it plays in so well with Homeland Security Theater trying to make us believe that the enemy is now homegrown, not so much foreign.

How stupid do they take the American public for? (Pretty much so it seems.)

You've been added to the tin foil hat list.

Can't you gov-trolls come up with a better response? It's always the same boring catch-all phrase: tin-foil hat.

Why don't you purchase a good book on metaphors, and learn how to express yourself? I'm sure your paymasters will spring for the purchase price.

And yes, the FBI has been catching "terrorists" - the ones they've set up beforehand as in this case. The Christmas Tree Bomber, the idiots who wanted to blow up LGA, the dope who thought he could blow up tunnels, the fool in Texas who the FBI called an Iranian Master Spy - and was actually a washed up used car salesman. Then there was the underwear bomber, who was escorted ON THE PLANE by government officials, even though he didn't have a passport, while his father had alerted US officials BEFOREHAND his son was a bit off the deep end. The FBI did nothing.

The people involved here didn't have a clue on how to destroy anything. They needed to be held by the hand every step of the way. I'd be surprised if they could successfully order a pepperoni pizza.

So, if I'm wearing a tin foil hat, at least I have a head with some brain cells still functioning to place it on.

Your comment is beyond ignorant. If any party in this country condones violence and rape--by, for instance, refusing to enforce gun laws and causing total chaos with needless wars in foreign countries--it certainly is not the party of Obama, Pelosi, and Reed.

It depends what kind of Anarchists they claim to be: Individualists or Collectivists.

Either way, Anarchy has no place in America...be it a conservative or liberal rendition.

In fact, "Anarchist" is NOT just another term for "terrorist" or "Muslim." There is a long and distinguished tradition of careful political thought and theory under the "Anarchist" heading. Ignorant people shouldn't open their mouths--or exercise their fingers--to spew on something they know nothing about.

Democrats in this country are not "leftists" at all. And frankly leftists the world over are the ones who actually DO know how the world works. The right-wing elite is just really good at "pulling the wool over the eyes" of people like you, who wouldn't know a real "leftist" if they saw one.

So the FBI planned yet another crime. Why is this breaking News? The FBI does this almost everyday, to remind us of the bogyman and fan our fears. What would we do if the FBI suddenly stopped fueling our fears? Regain our sanity, perhaps.

Your comment is beyond ignorant. If any party in this country would sanction domestic terrorism, it certainly is not the party of Obama, Pelosi, and Reed. Republicans are doing everything they can to sabotage the economic recovery in hopes of winning elections in November--just so that they can squeeze more money out of the people to put in the pockets of their already-rich cronies.

Rather an odd location choice for a terrorist act. More of a local road. Suspects look like a bunch of yokels who meet in their mother's basement

Thank you Maggie for the local information and other photos. These guys look like troublemakers. It will be interesting to see what other information about them is released other than their arrests. Not being familiar with the area, it looks as though there is another bridge (perhaps a railroad bridge) below and also a park-like area in the foreground.

I agree with you, Maggie and have several ways of describing them:

They look like they are playing hockey with a warped puck

A few fries short of a happy meal

The elevator doesn't go to the penthouse

                                                            Their pilot light blew out

As Bugs Bunny used to say "What a maroon (sic)"

If they get any smarter thier combined IQ's will get into double digits.

                                                            Those boys just ain't right.

I invite others to add to the list.

Oh, and they better get used to wearing lipstick where they are going because none of them look like they work out regularly...

See, we can insult these guys without using anything political ; >

'The individuals charged in this plot were intent on using violence to express their ideological views'

That statement there can be used to describe the entire US military and Congress, as well as just about any state, government, or empire. Lets have a balanced report on this story, listing how many things the United States government has blown up and killed via the use of explosives.

These guys however were not anarchists, as there is nothing in anarchist philsophy about blowing up bridges, nor killing innocent people for no point at all. Bridges are useful things that benefit all, and people who have done nothing to harm anyone should never be a target for anyone.
Further, real anarchists want nothing much to do with the Occupy movement, seeing it as wishy washy, and vice versa. They are entirely separate movements.

Anarchists want to be left alone, o have the right to self sovereignty, and to be left alone by the state. Occupiers just want to protest and squat.

                                                              #25.7 - Thu May 3, 2012 9:30 PM EDT

Notice how angry everyone is nowadays, and quick to blame everyone else? Anarchists have been around since the industrial revolution, and they are no different than Islamic terrorists in their harnessing of negative energies for destruction and mayhem. If anyone is egging on the spirit of anarchy these days, it's the extremists on the Left and Right, and the blowhards who host radio shows just to vent their narrow-minded views.

There is a big difference between wanting NO Government (these Anarchists) and wanting SMALLER government to represent the people (Rush).
