A Maryland honor student who hoped to attend Johns Hopkins University on a full scholarship instead pleaded guilty Friday to conspiring to help a Pennsylvania woman known as "Jihad Jane" plot to kill a Swedish cartoonist who had offended Muslims.
Mohammed Hassan Khalid, 18, is believed to be the youngest person ever charged with terrorism in a U.S. civilian court.
During a short hearing at the federal courthouse in Philadelphia, Khalid pleaded guilty to a single charge of providing material support to terrorists, the Philadelphia Daily News reported. Khalid faces up to 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine when sentenced. No sentencing date has been set.
Khalid, who moved with his family from Pakistan to suburban Baltimore in 2008, had been accepted on a full scholarship at the prestigious Johns Hopkins University, according to the Daily News.
"This is the saddest case I've ever been involved with in my career," the Daily News quoted Khalid's lawyer, Jeffrey Lindy, as saying. "He's a smart kid who understands what's happening. But how much can an 18-year-old brain comprehend about a life-altering experience like this?"
According to filings by U.S. prosecutors, Khalid began communicating online with fellow jihadists in the United States, Ireland and South Asia as early as age 15.
One of them was Colleen R. LaRose, the suburban Philadelphia woman who called herself "Jihad Jane." LaRose pleaded guilty last year to conspiring to kill Swedish cartoonist Lars Vilks. The artist had offended some Muslims by drawing a cartoon with the head of the prophet Mohammed on a dog's body.
U.S. officials have said the "Jihad Jane" case is unusual because it involves a green-eyed, blonde American woman who boasted that her appearance and U.S. passport allowed her to conduct terror activities without drawing suspicion.
"Today's plea, which involved a radicalized teen in Maryland who connected with like-minded individuals around the globe via the Internet, underscores the evolving nature of violent extremism today," said Assistant Attorney General for National Security Lisa Monaco.
'Black Flag'
Khalid helped LaRose raise money and recruit other conspirators online "to wage violent jihad in and around Europe," U.S. officials said. In addition, Khalid helped LaRose hide a stolen U.S. passport and, officials said, hoped "he could personally provide it to the mujahideen."
Khalid also communicated with one of the plot's alleged leaders, Ali Charaf Damache, an Algerian living in Ireland. Damache, who used the alias "Black Flag," is charged with conspiracy to provide material support for terrorists. He was arrested in 2010 in Ireland on an unrelated charge and the United States is seeking to extradite him on the American terror charges.
According to the Philadelphia Daily News, in a July 2009 email cited in the indictment Khalid told LaRose: "I have waited for this ‘donation’ moment for so long and I want to make sure that everything is true so that the money reaches ... the hands of brothers who are true to their intentions and are REAL mujahids (fighters engaged in violent jihad) not some fbi hungry agents ...”
LaRose was arrested in October 2009, shortly after returning from a visit to meet Damache in Ireland.
The FBI arrested Khalid in July, when he was still a juvenile, but the case was not unsealed until September, when he turned 18. Under the plea agreement, he faces adult charges.
In a statement, Zane Memeger, the U.S. Attorney in Philadelphia, highlighted Khalid's youth.
"This case has demonstrated that age is not a limiter to threats to our nation's security," Memeger said. "Regardless of a defendant's age or background, we are committed to keeping our communities and our country safe through the investigation and prosecution of violent extremist activity."
Khalid was a legal U.S. resident but, unlike his siblings and parents, he did not become a naturalized American citizen. As a result, Lindy said, Khalid is likely to be deported back to Pakistan after he finishes serving his U.S. sentence.

He admitted his crime and understood what he was doing...send him away where his deranged mind can't harm anyone else. Seriously, this so called smart kid thinks it's ok to kill someone because they offended him, really....doesn't sound very smart or rational to me. It's time to put the maniacs where they belong....behind bars for a very, very long time.
He should plead insanity. Those would-be muslim terrorists are crazy over green-eyed blondes.
I think there should be leniency shown. For gods sake he is still a kid and his future shouldnt be taken away.
You have freaking presidents declaring wars and wiping out entire generations and here we are talking about an 18 years old who "plotted" against another person. There has to be some common sense to American justice. Or otherwise our sense of justice is completely messed up.
Well, I hope Khlaid's sentence is more than 50 years. By the time he gets out of prison and "sent back to Pakistan", he will be TOO old for the Pakistani terrorist groups.
Wait a minute, they will probably use him as a Martyr with a belt bomb.
PJ-1795048.....What does "terrorist" mean to you ? At what age would you consider a "terrorist" if they were going to blow you (hint, ME terrorist use children in some of their plots) ?
If you have concerns with American Justice, maybe you should go to Pakistan, Iran, North Korea, or some other nice place with a "better" justice sytem.
PJ, you must be sh*tting me. You obviously don't know that most soldiers or jihadists are not old men like Osama, but usually young. I can tell you have never been in any theater of combat in the middle east, you would have figured out that one by now. and he is getting leniency. Prison here, then off to Pakistan where he can train to avenge himself against the United States. Was he going to be lenient killing his target or targets? I don't know about sense of justice, but I do sense you have smoked yourself retarded.
PJ, this wasn't a military target they were going after. It was a freaking CARTOONIST. Leniency? I don't think so!
PJ - Sorry. Plotting to murder a cartoonist just because he drew a cartoon many Muslims didn't like, is no excuse for murder by any stretch. It's sad that a kid who obviously had some potential gifts to give the world decided to throw it away by scheming with medieval barbarians (I do not include all Muslims in this description). Everyone gets insulted in this world, and Islam has no special right not to be offended.
ldo - Just because someone has a disagreement with American justice is no reason they should leave the country. People of every political stripe kvetch about every aspect of this country every day on these boards. They have that right.
Eighteen years old is plenty old enough to know right from wrong, the fact that the lawyer is suggesting an 18 year olds brain can't fully comprehend the life changing yada yada....is crap. I was 16 when my father passed away and I completely understood death was permanent. I never once thought about killing anyone. It's sad that a kid with so much future ahead of him got into something stupid but he's old enough to have known better so the consequences are on him.
maxeemas,
Maybe he will get himself killed next time.
Just being deported to Pakistan sounds bad. After prison here he will have no legitimate future so we'll being hearing from him again some time in the future. Probably work his way up the ladder in a terrorist cell.
Astro - I agree w you that there is in general no excuse to plot a murder. But 18 years is just too tender an age and i do not believe a person in that age exactly knows what he/she is doing.
Rando , D Mc, Ido - go first hang Cheney Bush and Lyndon Johnson (too late now) and others who have murdered hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians around the world. You have no clue what the @!$%# you are talking.
PJ,
18 is not a "tender age". When do you think people should actually be held responsible for their actions, then? 30? 40? Where's your threshold?
If you willingly and willfully plot to commit an atrocity (blowing up innocent civilians is wrong), there shouldn't be an age limit. Little kids don't fully understand what they're doing. 18 is old enough to be in control of yourself.
Wow PJ, you are just dropping winning statements left and right.
18 is "too tender" an age to be held responsible for plotting to brutally murder someone because they drew a cartoon you didn't like? Seriously? And then you claim that Bush "murdered" thousands of people around the world and should be hung?
Didn't know they had internet in the looney bin these days, that would explain a lot about the internet though.
Ryan, that's the fallacy of threshold. One can claim insanity at 40 too and get away with murder. So I do not think there should be threshold.
Hiap - need to look at own bad karma that led to all this terrorism. What have you read about Afghanistan, Pakistan, Indonesia, Philipines, Chile, Panama, the entire eastern Europe, and as late as Iraq and Iran. Let me tell you one thing - each one of them had dictators and all of them were friends with the US until some point of time they outlived their utility. So what does that do to the common population in those countries. How do you expect them to look at US. So when you get educated about these things - perhaps you will start making sense of my "winning" sentences.
Hey Pajama Man (pj), when they parole this POS have him come and live with you. At 18 I was in the US Army, 1973, so I have ZERO sympathy for this supposed brilliant muslim scum bag. Full penalty. No quarter and NO MERCY. When he is dead allah, she, can give him mercy.
PJ,
This "kid" should be executed like the pig Islamist that he is. No Islamist deserves any mercy no matter the age or gender. His whole family should be investigated for terrorism and thrown into a dark cell for life or outright executed. No mercy for Islamists or their families..both deserve death and torture.
"Khalid was a legal U.S. resident but, unlike his siblings and parents, he did not become a naturalized American citizen. As a result, Lindy said, Khalid is likely to be deported back to Pakistan after he finishes serving his U.S. sentence."
One promising life destroyed - for what?
At least when he gets deported to Pakistan at age 33, he'll be able to see how 'enlightened' his version of Islam is and all of the 'benefits' of living in such a 'utopian' society.
I love the comments about how "he's too young", "too tender" to understand the consequences/ comprehend the ramifications, etc etc etc. of a crime by/against a single person, but eighteen year olds are considered perfectly capable of making political decisions about the future of this country for 300million people.
Anyone want to explain the logic behind that??
People need to understand that this Man, is the new threat in America's war on terror. Westernized...well educated...speaks good english...lives a nice life. This guy could be in ANY neighborhood in America, and that's by design.
Terrorists are NOT always the poor, uneducated, ppl "who have nothing to lose".
@kapekodder if you were in US army, I hope you didn't accumulate bad karma. Because otherwise someday it will come and kick your ass. BTW - do you read other people's posts before writing things?
when are the muslims going to wake up and realize they are NOT a religion of peace? take off the veil, pun intended, and see that these "few bad apples" read from the same book as you do. however, they follow it, unlike the moderates.
Christianity is not a religion of peace either.. I can pull up many incident happened here.. like Oklahoma bombing & Arizona shooting & many more... if christianity was a peaceful religion they were of used other alternative rather than take innocent life..
This boy admit to the plot but he did not commit the crime, if we were good people, we would of give him good advice and teach him that vengeance is not the key to end problem but it s a weakness in Islam just so you know.
I understand that our justice does not make a difference between ploting something and committing something! but it could of been prevented if we want it to... rather than just charge him! I dont think he will learn something this way but it only going to make him seek more reveange
Maxeemas,
One doesn't justify a bad act by pointing to other bad acts.
denver bill 2 :
every time we see a crime committed by a Muslim.. the insults is more than you can berry but when a Christian commit a crime.. Christianity is never mentioned or insulted!
as if it s okay if you do it in the Christianity way as long as you dont do it in the Islam way! give me a break!!!!!!!!
I am of the opinion that this kid was already involved (as per the article stating he began looking into these groups at the age of 15) in making inroads to become a member of several extremist groups. I am all for rehabilitation where it is warranted, but this kid wants a way in and they have to prove themselves in order to move higher into the group and something tells me that had this kid not been stopped he would keep going. If he is so smart, he knows right from wrong. I would not give him or anyone like him an ounce of sympathy. If you want to play the big boy games then you are going to suffer the consequences. These are just my opinions, but after what happened to this country I have not the inclination to offer any goodwill towards any terrorist or would be terrorist either foreign or domestic.
When I was 18 I was not fully aware of everything and did not have a strong will too! it s easy for someone around you to influence you easy at that age
small example: why does the army pick young people? it s so simple.. they are very young and innocent and dont have a strong will neither strong believe and they break them down to obey them and to take control of their life and what follows.. in return they pay their college eduction after they break and control you...
I see Army and those groups same way because they both want you to do something based on their believe
Maxeemas, the way you say things, you aren't from the U.S., are you? Are you perhaps from the Midlle East yourself? Just askin.....
Maxeemas,
(1) If you think Christianity is never mentioned or insulted here, you haven't been reading much.
(2) My original comment stands: One doesn't justify a bad act by pointing to another bad act, no matter who are the actors.
first of all MAXEEMAS, did you not see the part where I wrote they are following the same book? where does it say in the bible, THAT YOU BROUGHT UP, about killing non-christians?
also, maxeemas: your quote: "Christianity is not a religion of peace either". "either" would imply that you're saying islam is also NOT a religion of peace. get educated please about your "religion".
@Maxidoofus - Christians never get punished??? like the priests who don't get arrested for child crimes (lets see some of the boy-love muslims turn in a cleric or mullah)? abortion clinic shooters don't get arrested? you have got to be some 12 year old sirius xm loving wanna be.... pick up a book.
Maxeemas: You make some good points and some bad. First off, if you are a Muslim living in the US, I am sorry for any prejudice you might feel from day to day. Now is not a good time to be Muslim here, and I imagine that you experience some barbs and suspicions that other people do not have to deal with. If you are a good person just trying to make your way in the world, then it is unfair that you be lumped in with the terrorists.
I agree with you that Christianity and other world religions have, and have had historically, their own bloody pasts. Islam is, however, currently the religion that is most likely to move people to strap bombs on themselves and blow up innocent targets. I applaud good Muslims who speak and work against violence in their religion. I hope their voices grow louder.
"This boy admit to the plot but he did not commit the crime, if we were good people, we would of give him good advice and teach him that vengeance is not the key to end problem but it s a weakness in Islam just so you know..."
I agree. I am sorry he decided to pursue a nihilistic philosophy and I hope he is able to better himself in prison. Maybe he will be a better person when he gets out, though unfortunately rehabilitation is not high on the corporate prison system's list of priorities.
"I understand that our justice does not make a difference between ploting something and committing something!"
Actually, it does. If he had succeeded in pulling off a murder, his sentence would no doubt be even heavier.
"...every time we see a crime committed by a Muslim.. the insults is more than you can berry but when a Christian commit a crime.. Christianity is never mentioned or insulted!"
I agree that with certain types of offenders, their religion may be more likely to be mentioned, and people are fast to blame Islam even when it's not at fault (witness Fox News leaping on Breivik's killings as being Muslim terrorism, when they were actually the opposite). I have also seen common murders involving Muslims which are blamed on Islam, when in fact the religion is a non-factor in the crime. That said, here on NewsVine, you'll find that every religion (and even harmless atheists like me) will get slammed for our positions. Christianity is one of my favorite punching bags, but I always try to draw a distinction between the person and the faith.
"When I was 18 I was not fully aware of everything and did not have a strong will too! it s easy for someone around you to influence you easy at that age
small example: why does the army pick young people? it s so simple.. they are very young and innocent and dont have a strong will.."
I agree completely, and unfortunately the subject of this story was easy pickings for cynical Svengalis who didn't care a whit about him, but wanted to use him for their own nefarious ends. His age should be a mitigating factor in his sentencing (and probably was), but he chose to play with terrorists, not merely sympathizing with them, but materially aiding them. He had a chance at a bright future and he threw it away.
Again, if you are a Muslim living in the US, I hope that you will have a good life here and that in time the suspicion and recriminations will lessen. Good luck.
Max, the Oklahoma and Arizona cases were tragic isolated incidents...not a worldwide movement like radical Islam. There really IS a difference.
@ Maxeemas,
The military likes young 18-20 year olds because at that time in our lives we are in the best shape. Yes, I will admit that it is easier to get an 18 year old out of the civilian mentality than a 35 year old, but the military does not want robots. Contrary to popular beliefs, they want doers and thinkers. I spent 27 years in the Army, 21 active, 6 reserve. I retired 5 months ago. I am 45 years old and if I tried to do basic training again right now, I'd probably have a stroke or coronary. I did Ranger School at 23 years old and it damn near wasted me. The 2 week assessment phase was the worst. It took me almost 2 months to recover the 37 lbs. I lost in 11 weeks. The military is NOT for middle aged people. Having a heart attack in the middle of a firefight is not a good thing. That is why if you stay in and make it a career, as you progress up the chain of command, you are behind a desk more and more instead of behind an M-4, or whatever your primary weapon is.
I hope that this little discussion has helped to open your eyes. If not, then I suggest you do an experiment. Take an 18 year old and average a 35-40 year old, have them run the Darby Queen at Ft. Benning. See who comes out on top. I'm willing to lay wagers on this one.
I just realized something, " behind a desk more and more instead of behind an M-4 ", rhymes. Look at me, I made a mini-poem:)
War Ranger makes a valid point. At eighteen we are in the best physical shape we're ever likely to see. This equates to effectiveness and survival on the battlefield. A great many eighteen year olds are mature in their judgement. To say they aren't and joined the military because they were unable to make a responsible decision is insulting to them.
The case in point here is that a young man with a bright future was radicalized by Islam and was prepared to kill a cartoonist because of it. For those of you who think killing a cartoonist merits the kid some slack.., well, given the taste of blood, where would he have gone from there? No, the punishment has to fit the crime. The terrorists who flew aircraft into the Twin Towers started small too, I'd bet on it.
For those of you equating Christianity to Islam - it's apples and potatoes. Christianity is a religion. Islam is a political entity with religious overtones. The Crusades are not a telling argument here, only ancient history.
We are in a struggle with radical Islam that, unless dealt with quickly, will end badly for all concerned. Our Islamic population is mostly made up of people who are much like the rest of us. But there is a percentage who are radicalized. Small as this number is, it is still in the multiple thousands. Like it or not, we have a serious problem.
If we outlaw The Muslim Brotherhood, cut financial ties to the mid-east and get a handle on our energy consumption we can defuse this situation. Anything less and we'll see steadily escalating instances of violence from this radical element. It's all in what you want, folks - a free country or one running scared from its Muslim fifth column.
Maxeemas...All religions are BS. However from a scholarly point of view the difference between Christianity & Islam is this. When a person commits violence in the name of Christianity, that person is taking it upon themselves, out of fanaticism, to force Christianity on others for their own good. When a person commits violence in the name of Islam, their only doing as mohamoud instructs.
Well glen, we will one day see how much BS religion is. Dead or Alive you will meet your God on Judgement day. Good Luack.
Frankie Little
Prove it.
warranger 3/75, I was 2/75 and all we had was Panama. I did Ranger school at 31, and it was hard, but doable. I went into it in excellent physical shape, suffered hypothermia (low body fat due to extreme distance running), but graduated with a major plus. But you're right. It's not for the faint of heart. Thank you for your service.
One thing tho...let me point out. People like us are somewhat desensitized to guns, violence, and so on. People who have not been to war, or have not been through the training, are not desensitized, and what may seem normal, or of no consequence to us may scare the living h*** out of those without our experiences. This calls for maturity. In society there are sheep, there are wolves, and there are sheepdogs. Because of your training and experience, you are a sheepdog. But you can do no good to anyone, or ever be of value as a silent protector of society if you are foolish with your skills and training. Ranger's lead the way, 3/75.
I see a lot s of angry people here dont like me too much... I dont blame any one for what s been happening lately all over the world.. I will continue to pray for all of us.. may God help us restore peace every where and help us unit as one... and guide us to the right path.. Amen
For someone supposedly so smart he sure is dumb. Maybe after spending up to 15 years in prison he will smarten up, of course he will be getting an education even he would never have imagined(come and get 'em boys!). We have got to keep cracking down on this crap and get them while they are still in the early faze of their extremism and have yet to gain the experience and knowledge to become a serious threat here and now.
Check out the history on how General "Black Jack" Pershing dealt with terrorist types ... he ended the problem for 50 years. Prison is too good for these people when they behead some of our people and other nationalities, recently a doctor was assasinated by these type a$$holes.
From Pakistan, huh ... I am not surprised.
But whats with the lady?
I'd hardly call her a "lady." Female sounds more appropriate.
" TRASH " sounds more fitting to me.
Moron is more appropriate. A female living in this country defending islam is moronic.
Glenn
" A female living in this country defending islam is moronic."
Like a pro-abortion fetus.
Well, the best way to give is to forgive. He might have just been a little misguided. Perhaps some couciling would help him find his way. Best of luck in the future.
Perhaps some counseling on how to spell counseling would benefit you, ( it is spelled COUNSELING ), not counciling. These computers nowadays have a little helper called, " SPELL CHECK ". Learn it, Love it, Use it.
Right, and you think terrorist's just need counceling? You leave in a dream world.
Deport this piece of garbage. He doesn't deserve to be in prison with Americans here in the USA.
I don't know if releasing him back into Pakistan after letting him marinate in a US prison for 10-15 years is a good idea. Maybe, like AlaskaGirl says, he'll smarten up and drop the jihadi cause...but he could also go the other way and become even more extremist. If he's as "smart" as it seems he is, that probably makes him a little more dangerous than your run-of-the-mill jihadi thug, no?
There is always that chance that he will meet his demise while in prison. I can't imagine that even the most heinous of criminals will be happy with this future lollipopper knowing what he was doing. Even our worst criminals seem to be patriotic and this piece pos is going to pay for it. He won't last.
If you deport him now, he'll get trained in Pakistan immediately then have 10-15 more years to try and kill Americans. If he's in prison here for 10-15 years first, then fewer Americans he can kill. Either way, at some point he'll be back in Pakistan and a potential threat -- whether it's sooner or later.
@AlaskaGirl True...unless they do something dumb like send him to Guantanamo and surround him with sympathizers :-\
I will be the first to admit that I am not entirely up on the GTMO stuff, but don't we only send the foreigners there? This kid is a U.S. citizen. I know some of the 9/11 plotters are there, but were all of them U.S. citizens or here on Visas? Enlightenment would be appreciated! Don't have time today to do the research!
@Mrs Wilberforce: I agree with you, but if I had a vote I would say later. Let our devious criminals work on him for the next 10 to 15 and the boy may be too messed up in the brain to be of any good at doing anything!
Nope, he was a legal resident, but not US citizen:
"Khalid was a legal U.S. resident but, unlike his siblings and parents, he did not become a naturalized American citizen."
But you're right, they're only to detain non-Americans, though they did "accidentally" detain Hamdi at Gitmo briefly since it didn't occur to US forces that he was a US citizen.
Thanks! I meant to go back to the article to make sure I had his status right and forgot to! I love how we do things "accidentally"! I wish we would do more things "accidentally". Oops! Our bad! So sorry! LOL
Black muslims are a strong influence in prison so he will indeed get an education and be quite the asset once deported to Pakistan.
Disco, that leaves a short walk and a bullet. He's radicalized now and will be worse after fifteen years of being some larger thug's girlfriend. Let him be deported immediately and he'll be a jihadist before the ink drys on his exit visa. I don't know what the solution is, maybe there isn't one?
Islam is a religion of peace.
We as US Muslims do not encourage reveange and killing, revenage is a sign of weakness in Islam. if we were to meet this boy before.. we would of changed him mind quick.. but unfortunatly he was not lucky enough to have someone advicing him.. instead someone else had to punish him instead..
Been Muslim today its like been a Black men back in the 1800. if they can find a way how to get rid of you.. they will do it in a heart beat!!!!! a white chritian men would of been handled in a different way!
I knew it! What country are you from? And if you don't like it here, why don't you go back? And I don't think "a white Christian man" who was plotting terrorist acts would get off easy. Remember Tim McVeigh and his buddy Terry Nicholls. May have been before you took the boat over here.
In all fairness, D McMillen, he has not stated that he doesn't like it here. I completely disagree with him when he says(in poor English) that had the boy been a white christian that he would have been handled differently. I see that you did well straightening him out about TM and TN.
@Maxeemas: Your community needs to speak louder about being a peaceful people and educating Americans that the majority of the US Muslims in this country are of a peaceful and country loving kind. Until you can get involved and not sit back (like the black community did ie the civil rights movement) you and your community will never be seen as anything but extremist and terrorists by many in this country. Sorry, but that is the way it is.
I also don't have much use for sympathizers either. I don't care if your faith is christian, islam, hindu, etc. A terrorist is a terrorist is a terrorist. Nuff said.
@AlaskaGirl: well said.
yeah.... if it was a white christian guy who actually killed people, like ... oh I dunno... Tim McVeigh or Eric Rudolph (white christians) the US justice system would have given them medals and set them free.. right?!?!? you f$%#@ing bigot retard...
you know something else - each year peace loving muslim kill millions of christians in the middle east and north africa - this year in Egypt the peaceful muslims who overthrew the government decided the coptic chritians didn't really need a church anymore so they burned them down... and they decided to beat them in the streets and kick them out of the neighborhoods... I suppose you will blame that on the US interferring in Egyptian Muslim activities.....
Praise be to Allah and all her wisdom,
Maxeemas, you may well practice a form of Islam that is peaceful and without dreams of a Worldwide Caliphate. Since none of us knows you, you deserve the benefit of that doubt. You are one of very few openly Muslim people who post here. The lack of dissenting Muslim voices tells the rest of us that either you are all in fear and awe of The Muslim Brotherhood or you all agree, at least in some part, with the radicals. Remember, Muslim people danced in the Middle-East streets after 9/11. Remember, Islam is known for building mosques on conquered land and one is going up not far from The Twin Towers site. If you, as a religion, want a meaningful dialogue you will need to come out and begin it.
Okay Maxeemas, and this is a serious question since you claim to be a Muslim, and claim you are a religion of peace. What do you feel about Iran's decision this week to imprison the ATTORNEY of the Iranian native Christan pastor Yousef Nadarkhani for nine years for supposedly being "against national security and spreading propganda, and keeping banned books in his home"? Don't suppose they locked him up because he was bringing too much attention in the press to the fact that the Iranian government sentenced one of their own citizens to death for converting to Christianity and refusing to renounce his conversion and return to Islam? What are your thoughts?
Maxeemas
Islam is a religion of peace.
We as US Muslims do not encourage reveange and killing
bwhahahahahahahahahahaha!
You must not be reading your Koran.
Better be careful, Maxeemas. Your published statements prove you to be a less-than-dogmatic Islamic. Now your co-religionists are honor-bound to kill your infidel ass.
Sleep well!
When he finishes his HOPEFULLY VERY LONG PRISON SENTENCE, send his a$$ back to Pakistan on the first flight there. Maybe he'll get to see the working end of a drone.
Nice! I almost forgot about those little jewels! LOL
Does extradition actually have to involve landing? Maybe they could just lower the ramp of a C-130 at 15,000 feet or so . . .
What exactly is Johns Hopkins criteria for full scholarship??? Can the university replace the little terrorist with an American student??? One who is interested in helping humanity rather than destroying it maybe.
Under islamic law this idiot IS an adult--and if in a muslim country would have at least two wives by the age of 18.
OH darn lost the scholarship---That needed to got to an AMERICAN anyway!!!! Not some terrorist that is out to kill innocent pepole for expressing their FREEDOM OF SPEECH!!
Why is he NOT being deported??? I don't want MY TAX dollars going to feed and house this terrorist!!!
On second thought DEPORT THE ENTIRE FAMILY!!! Bet they all helped in his "fundraising"!!
He's 18. I'm pretty sure he's an adult under our laws too. Lock him up.
I think they are creating the next Bin Laden. He is going to learn new skills in prison, and he is going to be way more pissed off, plus he will be a celebrity when he arrives back in Pakistan, Way to go, government! Keep those wars and taxes coming. World peace would just put CIA and NSA and the Joint Chiefs and Lockheed out of business.
Either way he is going to be a celebrity when and if he arrives back in Pakistan, but for now I am okay with the U.S. getting its pound of flesh out him and soon the prison will have a shiny new toy! The only new skills that boy is going to learn will do him no good in anti-gay Pakistan.
I don't care what his age is. We should help all terrorists join Osama Bin Laden in celebration !
When does a war against terrorism end? I mean, who surrenders for the whole terrorist group?
That's the million dollar question! I don't believe that terrorism will ever end. It is a generational thing in large part. Many of the fathers in those countries like Pakistan and Afghanistan are extremists and they raise their sons as such. I am so proud that "we" got OBL, and that helps to weaken the movement but it by no means will lessen their determination to kill in the name of Allah. Hell, we have our own home grown terrorists living amongst us. I do believe that we must keep up the fight and to severely punish those who are proven to have plotted, aided and abetted and carried out acts of terrorism.
IMHO,
One important characteristic of a Fascist state is that it is always at war.
hint, hint.
We have always been at war with Eastasia.
Astro,
No, no we have never been at wae with Eastasia.
Can't remember the name of the other alliance.
I already mentioned the way General "Black Jack" Pershing dealt with terrorist's ... they didnt try their tactics for 50 years when he stepped up and dealt with it head on. Check out the history and a direct approach personalized is all they will understand. The USA has too many whimps and the terrorist types know it.
What I don't understand is why John Hopkins offered this person from Pakistan a full scholarship when there are so many deserving american born kids who can't afford a school like this.
quotas - and an insatiable need to prove how diverse they are ...
Or maybe he earned it academically.
@Astro - yeah he sure showed a lot of intelligence recently huh?!?!? I can't help but feel he would have been a questionable doctor had he graduated.
Maybe a combination of all of the above. It sure would have been a great way for him to live in the shadows and continue to make his way up the ladder of terrorism.
james - I agree that he didn't show any smarts in pursuing his jihad activities, which is why I said "academically."
How intelligent can anyone be if their buying into a load of crap like islam or any religion for that matter.
You mean you dont know? We citizens are not as important as those who come over to our schools.
Like the "doctor" at Fort Hood???
what is up with the web site tonight
3rd try
How smart could this kid have been if he 1) was willing to kill in the name of religion and 2) posted his plans on the internet for everyone to see?
Send him to Pakistan! Good riddance!
I think he is old enough to know plotting to kill someone is wrong. Hell, my 3 year old knows that!
Wow, your three year old must be very mature to know about plotting to kill! LOL Sorry, I mean no disrespect, it just struck me funny.
@Snowsummer - I am writing that down for others --- "killing... wrong... ".
Apparently it is a new concept to some of the people on this board.
If your 3 year old understands what murder is, your kid is very precocious.
(Or have a lot of experience with murder.)
Glad to see all of the peace loving and accepting Christians out in full force in these comments...
oh really? christians or non-christians. people are supposed to be accepting to this type of behavior? it seems like a lot of their "wrong doing" is common sense to me. aka "don't kill others". o wait. that's actually a commandment on top of the fact that we should just know that it isn't of good to kill. *sigh
Go back and read your Bible, shed man's blood, your blood will be shed. There is no pacifism acceptable in reference to "Thou Shalt Not Kill (murder)."
It would seem that educating Muslims and allowing them to migrate to western countries does not stop their belief that they can kill you ir you insult their religion. Whats the next step start hacking off westerne heads with a kitchen knife if they refuse to convert? Oh wait thats already been done.
Fry the little zealot
so if a muslim tries to kill someone no matter for what reason they're a terrorist but if a non-muslim tries to kill someone it's just a simple crime, no terrorism. Stupid logic
You hate america muslim lover ?
Vegeta: If you conspire with a terrorist organization to kill someone for political reasons, then you are a terrorist. If he was a Muslim and killed the local grocer for the cash in the register, them he would merely be a murderer just like any Christian, atheist or other.
He will fit in well in the American prison system as this is where most of the recruiting into extremist Muslim brotherhood is taking place in this country. There really needs to be a more efficient way in this country of rehabilitating these people against the hatred they have buried deep within themselves. This is a young kid - he will probably watch his steps in prison, and if he makes it past the first 5 years, he will probably get out, because real murderers will need the space and his cause will be old news. But without effective brainwashing, he will go right back to his former ways and next time, he may succeed at whatever he plans to do. There has to be a better way.....but I have no idea what that may be.
m-612920: There is an interesting old book called "Stalag, USA" which addresses that question in the de-Nazification of German POWs during WWII. It's not completely germaine to Islam, but hopefully the US government is paying attention to some of its methods.
He MAY be smart but he sure didn't USE his smarts. Neither did the young woman.
The "religion of peace" sure gets turned on it's head by SOME of it's followers.
When will the moderates of the "religion of peace" admit to themselves that Islam being is used by the radicals in their midst as ANYTHING but what they say it is?
How does ANYONE know what a man who lived BEFORE cameras know what Mohammed looked like? Same goes for the Jesus freaks seeing a blue eyed, blonde haired white man when he was clearly Middle Eastern appearing?
Islam has never been a "religion of peace."
It has always been a cult of murderous fanaticism.
Although, there have been some very wise Muslims, e.g. Kalail Gibran.
it will never get through to EVERYONE. it's not about what the cameras didn't see b/c they didn't exist. there were these two major influences. one has the one book and the other, the other. the difference in teaching is QUITE DIFFERENT. therefore, we can "concur" as to how these people also were by...wait for it...hold on...THEIR TEACHINGS and ACTIONS. *sigh again...once again...for the elect.
"But how much can an 18-year-old brain comprehend about a life-altering experience like this?"
This is exactly why Religious fanatics prey on young impressionable kids. They may be Little Geniuses, but they still don't know their A$$ from a hole in the ground yet when it comes to life experiences. They just want to be Famous and a part of something bigger then them selves. The Fanatics Bank on these young naive wannabes!
I was young and Naive once and then I grew up.
A book is no substitute for experience.
People are born into the world innocent, then the adults take over and mold them into good people or evil ones...
I'm very close to this person's age and I understand that if I help a nutjob kill someone, that person will be dead, forever, and everyone who loved them will grieve. I also understand that this deed will hang over my head for the rest of my life, and nothing I can do will ever change that. He's not an innocent, he is an adult.
Just put a bullet in this seditious young immigrant.
