FBI: Bodies identified as missing mother, daughter

Jo Ann Bain and her daughters, Adrienne, 14, Alexandria, 12, and Kyliyah, 8, are believed to have been abducted by a family friend, Adam Mayes. Police believe the two younger girls are still with Mayes.

A Tennessee medical examiner identified two bodies Monday as those of Jo Ann Bain and her eldest daughter, Adrienne, 14, who are believed to have been abducted from their home in Whiteville, Tenn. on April 27.

Two other girls - Alexandria Bain, 12, and Kyliyah Bain, 8 - are believed to be with the man police have identified as the kidnapper, family friend Adam Mayes.

The bodies of Jo Ann and Adrienne were found Saturday behind Mayes' home near Guntown, Miss.

Earlier Monday, state troopers stopped vehicles at roadblocks and officers searched the yard of a home in northern Mississippi, as they looked for the remaining girls and Mayes, 35.

Officers also searched the yard of a home near Guntown that's been linked to Mayes. He was last seen a week ago in Guntown.

Kidnapping warrants have been issued for Mayes. The Mississippi Department of Public Safety said Saturday it believed "the children may be in extreme danger."

Adam Mayes, considered "armed and extremely dangerous," is wanted in connection with the disappearance of Jo Ann Bain and her three daughters, who were abducted in Tennessee and last seen in Mississippi.

Before they disappeared, the Bains had been preparing to move to Arizona.

'A good venting'
The mother's Facebook page shows that in the days before the four disappeared she was packing and working on homework.

Her last post, dated April 26, said "a good venting always makes you feel better." It didn't say why she was venting.

A web of ties connects Mayes to Bain and her family. They were all known around Whiteville, a town of about 4,500 people 60 miles east of Memphis.

Mayes was a longtime friend of Bain's husband, Gary, and had been at their home the evening before they disappeared, police said.

Both Gary Bain and Mayes were once married to sisters, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Kristin Helm said.

Mayes had stayed over at the Bains' house to help the family pack and load up a U-Haul to drive across the country to Arizona, Helm said.

Gary Bain, who was at the house that night, awoke to find his wife, daughters and Mayes gone. He couldn't reach his wife on her cell phone that day, and reported them missing when the girls didn't get off the school bus.

While authorities say Mayes is likely to be armed and extremely dangerous, acquaintances describe him as friendly, helpful and like an uncle to the girls.

Gerald Long, 60, of Jackson, Tenn., said he last saw Mayes about two years ago. He said Mayes lived across the street from him for about a year with his wife, Teresa. He described Mayes as a "sociable person."

He was helpful, Long said. "He didn't seem violent or anything."

As for his relationship with his wife, Long said "they were always up and down about things." Long would not elaborate.

The neighbor said he thought Mayes and his wife were no longer together.

Amber alert frustration
Jo Ann Bain's aunt Beverly Goodman, who works at Whiteville City Hall, said that her niece was not the type of woman to run off with someone.

She expressed frustration that the authorities didn't issue an Amber Alert sooner.

"What would it have hurt to put an Amber Alert out?" Goodman said. "They might have saved a couple of lives."

"Jo Ann and the kids, everyone loves them. We're just hoping to hear that they're safe," said Linda Kirkland, a family friend and cook at the Country Cafe in Whiteville, Tenn., speaking before the bodies were found.

Kirkland said the woman and her daughters were moving to Arizona because two of the girls had asthma.

FBI spokesman Joel Siskovic said authorities talked to Mayes early on in the investigation, but he fled when they tried to contact him again.

Authorities had said over the weekend that Mayes could be in Mississippi, but added that he has ties to Arizona, Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida.

Alexandria Bain has brown hair and hazel eyes and is 5 feet tall and 105 pounds, authorities said. Kyliyah has blond hair and brown eyes and is 4 feet tall and 57 pounds.

Mayes has brown hair and blue eyes and is 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighs 175 pounds.

Authorities said Mayes may have cut his hair, as well as cut and dyed the girls' hair to disguise their identities.

A reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the apprehension of Mayes and location of the victims has been offered. Contact the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation at 1-800-824-3463.

6-3, 175 pounds and here is his picture. Go find this guy, America. Show that we are in fact a country where we care. You grandfathers and fathers, turn over all the rocks you come to. In the convience store, in the WalMart, print and carry this mutt's picture. Don't aproach him, you probably don't have the right guy anyway. Lots of people look alike. Just stay right there and call 911. Tell them that you just spotted Adam Mayes. Let them take him down, but let's find this person of interest.

Personally, I doubt the father is involved, however I'm not saying it would be impossible. I know most people can't conceive of the mentality it takes to commit crimes like this, but in trying to imagine how it could have gone down ...they only think in terms of their own lives. I can think of many scenarios that would explain a man sleeping while his family was abducted. We just don't have enough information to judge what happened that day. Remembering he was (by all accounts) a trusted family friend- Do any of you know family's who have adults working different shifts in which one rises early and the other sleeps past noon (even on days off)? Where one habitually can't get to sleep, takes sleep aids, then tends to sleep in? Where a father might be a drinker and easily convinced by a "friend" to stay up partying, one last time before moving with said "friend" and then sleeping in? The size of the home could come into play-whether the person slept w/ a fan or music on etc. I don't know many people who if getting up ,and knowing for whatever reason that their significant other wanted to sleep in (therefore wanting to be quiet) and having a friend who had been nice enough to help you get ready to move- if that "friend" said,"Why don't me, you and the girls go out to breakfast and take them to school this morning. I'll buy, I'm going to miss you all so much." wouldn't gladly go quietly, and if they said they had to stop 3 miles away first (where her car was found abandoned, and where it really turned into the abduction and maybe the murders) unfortunately,I would have taken him there too.

Certainly everything you have stated is plausible. Has there been more released on this story though. It says that Mayes who was a long time friend of husband Bain was there to help the wife and kids pack to move to Arizona. It said nothing that husband was going? Somthing still doesnt smell right about all this.

I have checked on a few of the local Topix pages (for what they are worth) People who claim to know the family say the family was not breaking up, that they had lived in Arizona before moving to Tn. and were moving back ...together.

I don't understand why would the dad bring a pervert looking guy like this one to his home. Especially being that he has all girls at home. To all parents out there, please keep all your perverted looking friends away from your Innocent and unsuspecting daughters. You are suppose to protect them from evil, they're depending on you.

So what kind of vehicle is he driving so we could help look out for this creep, and maybe find the other two girls?

There are details missing from this story I am sure. Either the husband put this guy up to this or the wife was screwing around with him and he went nuts when she was going to move away. Either way I am certain there is something else we don't know about.

why would a mother...a real woman allow the weirdo around her babies to begin with. look at the guy, he obviously is lacking in social charm, looks, and any kind of social skills. I wished they would clarify not all people fron Tennessee look like that. God help the search.

(cont. comment 139) As for the father not reporting them missing until the girls didn't return home from school- we don't know what time Dad got up-could have been noon, maybe he reasoned his wife had just left? perhaps he knew of an errand his wife had to still do in relation to the move that might have been time consuming, and thought she and Mayes were off doing it. Maybe cell service @ their area or the area he might have reasoned her to be in is still sketchy? Just trying to think of reasonable explanations for the Father's actions as per media reports.

Any info released about the Bain family itself? It stated only the wife and girls were moving to Arizona. What about husband? Were they getting along or in the process of seperating? All this is relevant but this story seems so vague that there must be more to all this.

You know, when it's all said and done, it doesn't really matter why this guy took Ms. Bain and her daughters. It doesn't matter why he has killed two, so far, of this family. Whether it's jealousy or spurned advances, the one and only fact that needs to be considered is that this man needs to be caught, tried, and put away or to death, depending on the laws of that state, as soon as possible. People, get out there and be alert. If I were in that area, I'd have all these photographs with me and I'd be keeping my eyes open and scanning my surroundings at all times until he is caught.

Photo of this guy tells the whole story. His small squinty pig eyes reveal a lot about him. He is the killer for sure. There was no life and soul in this guy from day one. Satan took his soul at an early age. This is the work of Satan . He is the only one that can do something like this. The older daughter and mom gave him their souls voluntarily and that's why he liquidated them. Now he is workin on the two younger girls. I am really questioning their father who failed to protect his family. He is a big failure to say the least!!

Any way jokes aside this is horrible its always the douche bag you got who is supposed to be normal but really isnt. The nieghbors are saying he was such a nice guy, oh? just like Geroge Zimmerman they are all nice until they kill someone. Thats scary i rather deal with the so called thugs at least i know whats coming. People with these double personalities are the worst kind of people to be around because they are smiling in your face and plotting behind your back the worse kind of people ever.

Yet another half story from the internet. Certainly hope the little girls are safe. Not much was said about the husband, the story just kind of left lots of open ends and questions. A more thorough story would have been better.

The police would have taken him to jail if he been a black man but because he was white they didn't. They always do that and and let the white man go knowing he has a criminal past can see his mental health as they talk but since he is white and they want so much to blame it on a blackman they let the white real murderer go. Those women lives could have been saved if it were not for the police ignorance. Psychiatrist from FBI have already profiled what a person who does this kind of crime would look like ,blondhair, blue eyes, from the white race of european decent mostly from the lower south in America or southwest. The police these are so busy trying to lock up blacks for smoking joints they got no time for the real cases thats why they can never solve these cases 3 time now they have had the killer in custody and let them go. Thats why whites should have their own police response service and blacks have their own police response see because it seems the white police just are not going to do the right thing just like they didn't in the Trevon Martin killing.

I think the father of the youngest girl and husband of the dead woman looked suspicious to me. When the press got to his house, I saw a mean looking mug annoyed to be in the spotlight, but not really worried about his family. He could have arranged a fake kidnapping of his family by his buddy to get rid of the excess baggage.....too many strange coincidences to be legit.
