Updated at 4:30 p.m. ET: The FBI on Wednesday added Adam Mayes to its Ten Most Wanted Fugitives List after he was charged in the killing of a Tennessee mother and her teen daughter and the kidnapping of her two younger children.
First-degree murder charges were filed earlier Wednesday against Mayes and his wife, Teresa, suspected of killing Tennessee mother Jo Ann Bain and her teenage daughter, Adrienne.
Authorities said at a Wednesday afternoon news conference they are doing all they can to find Adam Mayes, who is suspected of fleeing with Bain’s two younger girls, Alexandria Bain, 12, and Kyliyah Bain, 8.
While search efforts are focused on Union County, Miss., Mayes also has ties toTexas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida and Arizona.
“We believe Mayes could be anywhere in the United States, and we are extremely concerned for the safety of the girls,” said Aaron Ford, special agent in charge of our Memphis office. “Anyone who has any information about this case, of if you’ve seen Mayes or the girls, please contact your nearest FBI office or the local police immediately.”

Mayes is also charged in federal court with unlawful flight across state lines to avoid prosecution, giving the FBI jurisdiction, Ford said.
The reward for information leading to the arrest Mayes is up to $175,000.

Adam Mayes’ mother, Mary Frances Mayes, also was charged earlier with conspiracy to commit especially aggravated kidnapping.
A police affidavit obtained by WMC reveals that Teresa watched her husband kill Jo Ann Bain in a garage adjacent to the Bains' Whiteville, Tenn., home. She also told police Adam Mayes killed Adrienne Bain at the home, the affidavit says. Police in the affidavit say she admitted to driving a vehicle with the bodies inside it to Alpine, Miss., where they were found buried in a backyard of his mother's Guntown, Miss., home.
Teresa Mayes told officials the motive was to kidnap Bain's two younger daughters.
Three days after Bain and her three daughters went missing, Adam Mayes appeared in a Guntown, Miss., convenience store surveillance videotape, his hair clipped short, officials said.

Adam Mayes was captured on video buying sodas and casually chatting with County Line One Market owner Nick Barghouthi on April 30. Authorities released the video Tuesday.
"He comes in here all the time," Barghouthi told NBC affiliate WMCTV.com. "Like, once a week, at least."
Barghouti said that when he saw Mayes he was "very calm, very polite. That's why I'm surprised. Somebody that calm and polite, and does that -- that's a lot to put together."
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said Mayes, 35, cut his hair and may try to alter the girls' appearance as well by cutting or dying their hair.

Mayes is said to have babysat for Bain's daughters, reported WMCTV.com. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation believes he is carrying a firearm and have added him to the state's "most wanted" list. A $50,000 reward is being offered for information leading to his arrest and information about Alexandria and Kyliyah.
Teresa Mayes' bond is set at $500,000 and Mary Frances Mayes' bond is $300,000, WMC reported.
Jo Ann Bain, 31, and her three daughters disappeared on April 27. Her husband, Gary, reported them missing, and their car was found in a field close to their Whiteville home.
Anyone with information on Adam Mayes' whereabouts was asked to call 1-800-TBI-FIND.
Mayes is the 496th person to be named to the Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list, the FBI said. Since its creation in 1950, 465 fugitives on the list have been apprehended or located—153 as a result of citizen cooperation.

Something's missing here. There must be alot more to this than meets the eye. Did they think they were doing these young girs a favor? Some kind of misguided rescue perhaps?
Why did they do this all of a sudden? I wish this told us more information from the wife and mother on what the reason for this horrible act was. Why would they help him?!? They shouldnt have said anything about the store because if he comes in at least once a week there was a good chance he'd be back but not now.
He probably killed the 14 year old because he only wanted to bang the younger girls. There are sick people out there so what do we do let a bunch of them cross the border into here.

This whole story is just INCREDULOUS! How in the HELL could ANYONE, let alone people that you know and have interacted with on a personal level (killer is friends with victims husband and has babysat the children) sit by and WATCH your own husband brutally kill 2 people? I pray to all that is holy, that these young girls are found safe and physically unharmed and that they NEVER witnessed what happened to their mother/sister, its just plain SICKENING! They need to EXPRESS the chair for this b*stard.
And the victims HUSBAND must be beyond words - poor guy! I pray that he can keep it together, and not go crazy on this guy (I sure as hell would). Who also allows a guy to "babysit" teenage DAUGHTERS? Smells fishy to me, i'd surely never do it!

All of the above plants the seed in a child that makes them turn out to be adults like we're reading about. It starts at the root. Children are a reflection of their parents. You only have until a child is about 10 yrs old to teach them right from wrong and treat them right.
That's when their brain stops growing and they want to start experimenting with what they've learned.

I support publicity 100%. Cut off his access to public markets for the supplies that he needs. If he turns to begging, he will still face public scrutiny. If he turns to theft, that's all the justification anyone needs to do the deed.
Stories like this are becoming commonplace, and that is really scary.
I've thought the same thing. But then again, things like this have been going on for decades but in the last 10 years the Internet has caused all of us to be far more aware of them happening. Far more information is readily available to all more than ever before.
My wife hates it when I talk like that. But I'm truthful. When they catch him they need to put him in a deep pool with a garden hose with boiling hot water coming out and televise it. I bet kidnapping young kids would stop. But all you bleeding hearts will probably protest it and want him set free.

Somehow conviction and instant execution seem to easy for this pair. Maybe we could all agree on a life without parole sentence that includes some type of physical or mental torture.
I wonder how Americans would vote for such a measure, allowing for torture as punishment? Instead of seating a death penalty eligible jury, it would have to be torture eligible one. Interesting concept for a civilized, but outraged nation where the horrific nature of these crimes continues to shock.

When my children were young, NO ONE babysat our children, except for my eldest son and now that he is a new father, he sees why I was SO protective and with him at 6'5 310 professional athlete who always looks MAD but is sweet as all get out to his wife and daughter, he said to me yesterday ....mom if anyone EVER hurt my baby - they'll be BEYOND dead (he doesnt talk much, but THAT is one statement I TRULY believe).
Im so very grateful that they made it to adulthood without being molested, raped or hurt .....its a sad thing to have to WISH for your children to grow up and not be harmed in the process ....

From what I read, the mother was moving to Arizona, not Las Vegas. She was moving to Arizona because 2 of her daughters have asthma.

Another story floating around is that the creep may actually be the father of the two younger girls and that's why he kidnapped them so the mother wouldn't move them away from him to Arizona. Sounds like it could be a possibility and that he killed the mother and the older daughter (that probably isn't his). I guess that's all we can do at this point is guess.
I heard that "story" too but it was from other posters on here. Seriously, look at the picture of the girls and then look at the picture of Mayes. Not one of those girls has even a little hint of Mayes' facial features. I seriously doubt the mom was having an afair with that guy.
Plus I believe the story said the middle daughter was born when the mom was with someone else. Supposedly before she even knew mayes
Either he was infatuated with his friend Gary's wife and thought he could take her away with her daughters..or he was in a relationship with her. Bet Mayes never brought mama and wife by the Bain's house. This is one of the most bizarre stories I have ever read. Kill one daughter keep two alive. He eventually is going to be caught..i hope he just lets the two little girls go. Very very sad
