You enjoy making crap up? "Real" unemployment numbers are pretty hard to quantify, so you can make up any numbers you like. 401k's were destroyed before Obama took office, but I'm sure you knew that. Gas prices were identified during Bush's regime as not the responsibility of the administration, but now that they aren't in charge things have magically changed. Small business foreclosures? Please clarify. Home foreclosures? Yeah, that's possible, but that would also seem to be more the responsibility of the previous administration and its lack of oversight over out-of-control bankers (and Bush's desire to have EVERYONE own their own home). You folks on the right are real good about assigning blame to others, pure crap when it comes to responsibility.

Most , if not all states have laws that prohibit polygamy .Why haven't the left-wingers been raising hell with the states that have been denying life , liberty and the pursuit of happiness to men who love more than one woman and women who love more than one man ? Why is it that Christians feel they have the right to impose their religious beliefs on the whole country? I thought that this country was founded on freedom of religious belief. What's even more astounding is that most Christians do not follow the bible anyway (when was the last time a Christian was put to death for working on Sunday?), but they sure wave the bible when it is something that they don't personally like.
But what I really want to know is why the government is in the marriage business in the first place. "Marriage" is a religious construct, and as such, should be left to religion. All the government should issue civil unions to handle the union of two people for legal purposes. If two people want to be legally bound in the eyes of the government, they register their union. If they want to be married in the eyes of the church, they get married in accordance with customs on their religion, in addition to their civil union.
The government is supposed to represent all it citizens, that is why there is supposed to be a separate between church and state.
We are NOT a christian nation, we are a FREE nation where all citizen enjoy EQUAL rights under the law.
What rights do I have that homosexuals don't have ?

I asked a Christian friend who denied they constantly push their beliefs and crosses on us....and he admitted because it was in the bible to do so. Duh, like any life form it must endeavor to survive. Of course with the convience of the interpretation du jour of the "absolute truth" any repression and hatred and assault on everyone, INCLUDING their own, can be justified.
The Beauty in what Obama did is that virtually No One who was going to vote for him before, won't because of this. Virtually all progressives I know, either are pro universal rights or simply don't care. None are against gay marriage (just my opinion and observation, I am sure everyone has their own special cases). BUT, there were plenty of people who might have been single issue voters and this will swing them over to the Obama camp.
So now, we have a big part of the youth, most of the women, most of the black and hispanic community and soon the utter bull that the economy is Obama's fault will be buried, and the bull that Romney has anything to offer AT ALL in ANY context...I'd bet the farm that Obama is going to win by one of the biggest landslides we have ever seen (electorally speaking - in raw numbers, he will win by at least 12 million).
The republican party is essentially a pack of fundamentalist zealots - Americans are smart enough to blow them off. At least with a steady campaign of truth to counter their fantasies (you know like Mitt saved anything let alone a car company).

Goin for broke: the right to get a divorce. And the precursor to that is the right to the full range of benefits and curses of being in a legal marriage. (Yeah sure, hire enough attorneys, in the right states, with the right beauacracies and maybe you can achieve equal rights - but that is inherently NOT equal).
But it is not just rights, it is attitude. The precursor to the Tea Party was the KKK and they thought it was okay to murder blacks at will. Rights, laws and progress have ended that. So will go the right of those non-standard white hetero's to have a safe and fruitful life.

The South had diversity during slavery, but were all men equal? Are they now? They are certainly more equal now, because of progressive and, speak softly, LIBERAL ideas.

And the party of Lincoln is NOTHING like the current Republican Party, just as the Democratic Party of 1860 is nothing like today's party. But, do you know what happened to the "Dixiecrats" of the South? Why, they became Republicans. When the Democrats of the 1960s and 70s started pushing for civil rights, these "old style" Democrats wanted nothing to do with it, so they migrated to a party that they thought was a better fit. Want to read about one of these wonderful folks? Look up Jesse Helms. Do a little reading and enlighten yourself.

But, I am a liberal and have been for a long time. And I have been working for a long time. And I am a veteran (of two branches of the military). And you know what else? I know a whole bunch of Republicans that have something in common. You know what it is they have in common? They don't work and are on welfare. And they all seem to think they will someday be wealthy beyond belief.
I am fed up with the holier-than-thou spew from the right that mostly consists of falsehoods and delusions; when will they grow up and stop with the schoolyard banter?
Burgundy, amen. For those who have clear minds and read and listen, we are witnessing a great president. Did he get 'managed' by the military/industrial/banking system - of course, every president does, it is impossible not to be affected. But that system is so narrow - nothing but money, it misses the greater good of the big picture. Sure they hire the likes of the Fox/Rush media and attemp hypnotism, but in the end people do not stay in the haze. Their personal drive for life and rights will bring them back. No one can watch a child die of neglect and keep a hard heart. And that is what the Republicans are dedicated too. Save the fetus, hate the child (well that is the poster, the reality is nothing but money).
And when the public opens their mind they will see that the Stock Market has recovered. Corps are profitable (and holding out on hiring - not Obama's policies), and while too many are unemployed, most people are employed. In fact ALL the jobs lost during the depression have been recovered in the private sector.
The republicans will continue to obstruct, but there will be new freedom to make progress going forward. And perhaps Obama can drop some of the 'system' on it's visually bankrupt butt and move us even further forward.
And oh by the way, everyone should study Obama's foreign policy successes. It's not just Palestine and Israel. It's the whole of each of the regions of the world, and rarely has cooperation and understanding been working as well and heading us to a peaceful place.
Apparently it's what you get when an ordinary man, does not have riches poured upon him, learns to learn, learns to think, thinks and thinks again. That is a great president. The rest is just the dust blowing by in the noise of blowhards.
Did I miss something? When does one group get to define marriage for everyone else? I mean Christians did not invent marriage. It is not a uniquely Christian ceremony. When are people going to stop letting these Stone Age morons dictate to the rest of the planet how we are supposed to live and think and love? The FACT is that anti-gay laws are laws by our government that endorses the religious beliefs of one religion over another. NO other religions, except the Bloody Trio (Judaism, Christianity and Islam) have a problem with homosexuality. American Fundamentalists, not seeing enough hatred and bloodshed, have been financing deadly anti-gay laws in Africa. Murders, rapes, beatings, burnings. This isnt Buddhists, Hindus or Shinto doing this: It is CHRISTIANS. American Christians.
These people are no different than the Islamic "terrorists". They use many of the same tactics, they even have the same damned God, the one who keeps changing his name, like a freaking mobster. The OBJECT of all three of these religions is world domination in the "name" of their "God". It freaking SAYS SO, right in their BOOK!!! They WANT the end of the world. Says that as well. All you people up there who claim to love democracy, but are Christians? You are either naive or have never READ that book. And if you dont believe the book, look at their freaking history. Try them, it's very satisfying.
As for Obama backing down on his word...well that could be argued in a few contexts, but why bother. The critical aspect, the magnificent aspect, is he did not just change his mind, not just a flip. He thought. He thought long and hard and yes in the context of votes, morals, ethics and progress. They all have to be considered in a real life mature situation. And like going after Osama, there were hard choices, big fears, realities...but he made the tought choice.
Obama has read history and he makes good choices. Just as we can not leave people dying on the street from lack of medical care any more than we can abandon the medical system to its own greed and burdens, he does not wish to leave sub classes of Americans out of the common strength of our nation.
Carlo, I am an atheist but raised Jewish. I will go with your opinion that the fundamentalist parts of Judism maybe homophobic (I can't get past their attacking 8 years girls for their dress...so I ignore them) but the Jewish culture is far far more liberal than that. I don't know any Jews who are not liberal - though I have met some that would take the world down for Israels survival. Surely if the Jews were so hell bent on domination....we'd have bred past the mere 12million or so of us. Overall I think the mentality is we have some pretty good ideas and some maturity in all this (I mean really, we do have a 3-6year real history). And we really don't need to ram our stuff down your throats. I mean really when was the last time any Jews knocked on your door and shoved a Torah at you.

Steveo, I did not mean to imply that all Jews were involved in some sort of plot. But there is an element of your people who are. The entire story of the Jews in Egypt, the foundation of your story, is a complete and utter fabrication. These people were not poor victimized sheep herders, they were an invading army that conquered the Lower Kingdom and ruled with an iron hand for nearly 200 years. After being expelled from Palestine by the Romans in 75AD the group that I am talking about moved north and founded the Khasar Empire, which reached from the Eastern Caspian Sea to Eastern Europe.
During the beginnings of the Nazi regime, the World Jewish Council declared war against the Nazi Party. They did this BEFORE there were any camps. The Jewish people, even assuming that any of the Bible is true, had only actually controlled this area for less than 800 years. Maximum. This same council, using the power of Jews that had established themselves in the government of the US and Britain, to take the land from the people who had been continuously living on it for more than 4000 years.
Now, moving forward. The leaders of the Jewish people knew all this. They immediately began using US military power to expand their borders to nearly twice the size of the original. The US spends nearly a quarter of a billion dollars each year in military support alone on Israel. The Christians believe that the Jews are "Gods Chosen" and that this fake story tells that Israel must be in control of that region if Christ is to come back and a war against Islam is necessary because the bible says so.
So, we have a concocted story used to generate the idea that the Jewish people have been picked on just because they are loyal to "God", and Jewish leaders have been using this story for political gain for millennium. Steveo, I will bet your a pretty nice guy. But the leaders of the Jewish people are horribly corrupt and they have been using Western Governments, playing on these religious fears, for far too long. If you think they do not have far too much influence, ask yourself why the US has not given the native Americans THEIR land back. Or why England has not given the land back to the various tribes that lived there before the Romans. Or the Gauls in Western Europe. They use the Christian fears of eternal Hell to push their agenda.
I have Jewish friends, many of them. But the Jewish friends that I have all feel the same as I do.

I am heterosexual, a veteran, and a former republican, who has been driven away from the GOP by all of the extreme right wing self righteous fox news watching zealots. I did not vote in '04 or '08, and probably will not vote in 2012, but I really could care less about who marries who. Much ado about nothing.
My only criticism of Obama's statement is that he said the question of same-sex marriage should be left up to each state.

I haven't completely read all of the comments...but I would like to say that some people need to realize what Obama is really saying before they attack him for being a hipocrit. I believe his support for gay marriage is simply saying that he's not going to choose what people can and can't do. I am not gay but if thats how you want to live your lifestyle than do so. There will always be and have always been homosexual people. A gay person getting married doesnt do anything to me...i'm still straight...i'm still american...my bills are still the same...just sayin.
