Alleged Florida white supremacist leaders: We're 'being persecuted'

Osceola County Jail via Reuters

Patricia and Marcus Faella, reputed leaders of the white supremacist group American Front, deny they were planning for a violent race war.

The reputed leaders of a central Florida white supremacist group accused of planning for a “race war” say they are proud Americans who are being persecuted for their beliefs.

Marcus Faella, 39, and his wife, Patricia Faella, 36, told News 13 they had no intentions of being violent toward anyone.

Interviewed at their compound in St. Cloud in rural Osceola County, Fla., the Faellas acknowledged their ideas are different than others, the TV station reported Thursday.

"At this point, it looks like we are being persecuted for our politics," Patricia Faella told News 13. "I am really -- we are out here because something does make us uncomfortable, but we are not trying to bother anyone else. We are just trying to be left alone."

Marcus Faella said he and his wife are proud Americans, according to News 13.

The Faellas are among at least 11 people connected to the Florida branch of a skinhead group called the American Front arrested in the past week. They are accused of felony conspiracy and hate crimes, including taking part in paramilitary training on the Faellas’ compound in preparation for what Marcus Faella believed was “an inevitable race war,” according to court documents.

A government informant infiltrated the group during the two-year investigation and said members trained with AK-47s, shotguns and explosives at the Faellas' fortified barbed-wire compound. According to a court affidavit, American Front members discussed acts of violence that included causing "a disturbance” at City Hall in Orlando and attacking a rival skinhead group during a May Day rally.

Patricia Faella denied the group was planning a race war. "Some symbols mean something from one person to the next," she told News 13. "All we are asking you is to reserve judgment."

The Faellas were arrested Friday and released from the Osceola County Jail after posting $500,000 bond each.

The father of another defendant, Richard Stockdale, 23, of St. Cloud, said the charges against his son are “fabricated and trumped-up.”

“I know my son is a good kid, and his friends are nothing but prideful Americans,” Richard Stockdale Sr. told The Orlando Sentinel on Tuesday. “I can’t wait to hear what (authorities) have. It’s all been blown way out of proportion. It’s amazing that when you say hooray for the white man, you go to jail.”

Patty Kenny, the mother of defendant Christopher Brooks, 27, of St. Cloud, told FloridaToday.com her son was "a very good kid, respectable."

"I knew about the tattoos, I knew about him, but I didn’t know about the command post and the guns and the stuff they’re saying is happening," she said.

"As far as I knew these were just friends that he hung around with,” Kenny told FloridayToday.com. “I feel like if I was on the side of the road in the middle of the night I could call the friends up and they would come and help me out."

Earlier: Reputed white supremacists accused of planning race war

"They’re more survivalists than terrorists,” Brooks' father, Thomas Kenny, told FloridaToday.com. “They want to be able to live off the land. I don’t  see them wanting to terrorize people or starting wars."

Meanwhile, some American Front backers are trying to muster support online for those arrested.

A petition called “Free Richard 'Adam' Stockdale and the AF 11” was started by a person using the name Jbug Garrean. “The media is spinning this story to make it appear as if these people were plotting 'Terroristic Attacks,' when in all reality all these people are guilty of is being white,” the petition states.

I think these folks are going to walk on all charges. Being racist is not a crime, and judging from the articles on these folks, the prosecution has nothing on them except that they don't like their attitudes. I think people should pay close attention to this case. I honestly believe government has really been over-stepping their bounds lately, and in some other cases, have broken the law themselves. I am not a conspiracy theorist, but I support everyone's right to be or not be whatever they want.

I'm an hispanic liberal and even I think these guys are being harrassed. What proof was given that these people were going to start or engage in a 'race war'? Living a secluded life and training with weapons does not make anyone a criminal. Talking about criminal acts does not make anyone a criminal. No proof of a crime was mentioned. These guys should be released back to their camp.

Guys they are not going to walk. They are being prosecuted because they PLANNED to incite violence. They were actively training using explosives and different types of guns including assault rifles. Forming a militia is one thing, actively planning mayhem is another altogether.

It's not the beliefs that are the issue. Racism is a legitimate human belief system. It's a stupid one, but legitimate. However, acting on that belief to harm others is definitely NOT okay UNDER THE LAW. These fools did something or they would not have been picked up. Let the justice system work for them too. By the way, it's also a legitimate human to belief to think we are all one tribe in the end, beautiful in it's diversity and courage. Let the profanely stupid live with the results of their unfortunately informed acts.

Last time I checked people wanted the government to act BEFORE violence occurred. Columbine happened when I was in high school, and since then I have seen lots of stories of internet comments being blown out of proportion as a possibility to violence against school staff or students but fellow students. However the harassment of the accused and their family almost always takes side stage and people wanted a thorough investigation to ensure their children are safe.

If there was a possibility or a suspicion based off of evidence that they could be planning for future attacks, it has to be acted upon. If these were femi-nazis or muslims would people be complaining as much? If they are just guilty of being narrows minded buffons then they will likely walk, if there is evidence to suggest they were going to harm people they'll be punished.

If they did something at a later time, people will then be asking "Why didn't the government do anything?"

Well these are not enemies of the state, so whatever the state knows, SPILL IT! Show us the evidence if any! Knowing something we don't is an excuse to prosecute cases that don't exist, been an excuse long before 9-11, Columbine, and the the Oklahoma City bombing, and the like. Arrogant feds will make up anything to make cases where none exist. Whether these people are a legit case or not, the actions of the state should be made public in this case, who's the infiltrator for example, by the laws of the COTUS, his or her testimony is legally mandated in the presense of the accused. National Security Letters = Gestapo Kidnappings Murders. Patriot Act/More Than Doubling The size of the fed govt and the attacks used to justify it all are no different than the Reichstag Fire used by Hitler to justify setting events into motion for his mass murders and genocides. Legit case or not, really dangerous or not, these people and the public have a right to hear the evidence in their presense, her prosecutorial witness testimony in their presense, and have evidence in their favor and witness testimony on their behalf.

In this country can believe whatever you want. You can take any position you want. People will hold it against you when you preach hate. Speech is free but not without consequence. BTW, you weren't arrested for your beliefs but for your actions and intent.

      Reply#3 - Thu May 10, 2012 3:08 PM EDT

Now there's an interesting point...how do you determine their "intent"? If we discussed the "possibility" of attacking some group does that mean we are actually planning to do so. Even if we draw up plans and run a sand table exercise, does that mean we are really going to do it? There's a very gray line here that should not be crossed but we all too often are willing to let government cross that line when we disagree with those on the other end.

As for their actions...paramilitary training...hmmm...ever meet any serious paintball players? They probably do more paramilitary training than most radical groups in this country. The only difference is they carry out their training using paint instead of ammunition.

But we all know that Christians are RACIST! God surely didn't make this guy or his band of RACIST angels. But we know all you Christian's forget it's a sin to be RACIST. The most SEGREGATED time in America is Sunday morning!

If Christ loves ALL the little children, then please explain why he murdered the first born male child in Egypt to punish someone else. Then explain why he sent two she-bears to maul dozens of children to death because a few of them teased a bald man. Then explain why he doesn't help the children in starving countries from dying. You can talk about love all you want, but love without action is nothing more than words.

As for the racism Christ once refused to help a woman's demon-possessed daughter because she wasn't one of The Chosen until she debased herself before him. Don't you think that's racist?

I see your a christian-phob, I don't see you explaining what the other religions do like stoning women, public hangings, or cutting off body parts to show their will over the people. And just to let you know these items I listed are still going on from the religion.

You are not much of a diplomat or a person who should look at things from both sides but love the colored glasses you wear to only see and explain to others why they don't think as you.

Quote: "The greatest corrupter of man is his ego, to deter him from this is to have him look in the mirror."

You might want to look at a mirror and see what is in the reflection, bad thing is you probably won't because you won't like what you see.

Not true. Religion itself is the cause of its own downfall.

Your response is proof positive that certain people can be led to believe whatever they are told, even if it isn't true.

This is where religion is faltering. More people are questioning their faith because of the actions within the church itself. Failures generally happen from within an organisation.

So the primary reason less people are following religion is because of the actions of religion itself and not some random comments on a message board.

        Dear Beth Baby!

I'm not RELIGIOUS in anyway! Nor am I into politic's because as you said they both will get you killed!

So we agree about RELIGION! But it's another thing to quote the Bible! That all in this society is living by....Actually I was posting to show how people use RELIGION to pull their crap against others.

If you ask most people, they will state that they are CHRISTIANS! Even those in prison for murder are whatever. You also have those that go around stating that GOD told them to mass kill people. Like Jimmy Jones did. and several others. God told White Baptist to be RACIST towards Black Baptist?????????? That's how it goes in real lfe.

You have all these so called Christians that just don't know nor ever read their Bible! I, have taken the time to study it! I, have found way too many holes in the stories in the Bible!

The New Testament was first written some 50 yrs. AFTER Christ death! So NO ONE was there to hear Christ say this or that! That they state he was supposed to have said....It was written from 50 to 500 yrs. after his death. You know how man lies! Stretches stories and have fantasies in their minds.

So since there's those that so call live by that Bible and they go around doing wrong and quoting the Bible as a defense and yet know nothing about it or what it says.

Church's are only about MONEY! They virtually force you to pay 10% of what you make weekly. You can't pay your bills and the Preachers are living like Kings! Then they try to shame you for not paying them. By telling that God will give you ten fold, so you pay then your ass is in the streets cause you couldn't pay your bills. Or if you go to them for help, they turn you down while the preacher is eating steak, living in a million dollar home and laughing at your ass.....

God is not a Christian! God is not about MURDER, PAIN, HATE, RACISM, BURN IN HELL, DOOM and GLOOM. and whatever else! If there even is a God? If there is one, he is FAR everyone, love, peace and being kind!

As George Carlin stated, " That if God was a Woman we wpouldn't be as F----- up!"

Don't you think it's funny that the Christian RELIGION only preaches out of the New Testament and never the Old Testament.... When it was even written till years later.......

Look how the Govt get those to go to another country and kill someone that's never ever done a thing to them and kill them in the name of GOD! Then when they return and have someone do something to them personally and they kill that person, they are put in prison or executed!???????

You are correct on the sales, but way off on the reason.

Ever since Obama took office, the NRA has been telling everyone that Obama was going to abolish the second amendment. Since that didn't happen, they are now telling people that Obama was just lulling people into thinking he wasn't. If re elected, the NRA now states that he will do it for sure since everyone was lulled into thinking he wouldn't. The audio is out there to listen to for yourself.

You're right about the paranoia, but wrong about the cause of it. It's not about race, but all about fear mongering by the NRA.

I have to admit though, they did a bang up job. So good in fact, that the top gun manufacturers are no longer taking new orders for the time being.

Do not dismiss the claims about trying to take away your guns. Remember the "Assault Weapons Ban"? That was a blatant attempt to take away firearms from people. there have been plenty of other attempts as well. The Brady Bill? Multiple bills which HAVE been introduced but fortunately did not get to a vote also would have severely limited your ability to buy or own hand guns.

There IS a crowd out there which would rather see every gun in this country taken away form the citizenry. most want to do it because they say they champion people killed by guns. What they ignore is the tens of thousands of people each year who defend themselves and others and prevent crimes with legally owned firearms. They would turn each and every one of those people into victims in their blind quest.

I'm no fan of skinheads but I have the say on the surface the evidence against them sounds kind of weak. I mean what did they actually do?

What did the murders on 9/11 do before they crashed into their target. They planned for a very long time.

I thought I was hearing Deutschland Uber Alles in the background when I read the part saying we are just proud Americans. The dude has a neo-nazi symbol tattooed on his neck..., and he is just another proud American? C'mon Man!

Regardless of if we agree with their beliefs, we should not single out this one group for being "racists" while not going after ALL groups that are racists. This includes ANY group or company that seperates from others using race as a criteria. The Neo-nazi's, KKK, Black Panthers, ALL religious groups that preach any type "hatered" by race, gender or sexual orientation; study groups on any school campus that are divided by Race, the minority bidding requirement for government contracts. Either ALL speech and beliefs are protected, or there is no protection. imho, There is a reason these type groups are small, because most people with common sense listen to them and walk away.

Persucute: to harass or punish in a manner designed to injure, grieve, or afflict; specifically : to cause to suffer because of belief

I was about to say that, and you beat me to it!

Sounds to me like they got caught, now they're desperately back-pedaling to try to get out of their jam. Just like a criminal who keeps saying "I didn't do it! I'm innocent! That wasn't my loot, and I didn't steal those diamonds!".

If they really wanted to be left alone, they wouldn't have been promoting their racist ideas in public. If they didn't want to bother anybody, they wouldn't have been planning and practicing for their "race war". And they certainly weren't arrested for "being white", there are several hundred million people in the US that are just as "white" as they are, but they're not being arrested because they aren't planning terrorist attacks.

It's going to be an easy win for the prosecutors, the defendants have already demolished their own defense.

Being persecuted is one term for what is happening to you guys. "Picked Off" is another term. While I do not share your views I support the fact that free speech is protected under our law, however, often times there are consequences that come with certain speech and actions and I suspect it is that for which you are being "Persecuted" or "Picked Off".

If you want to be afraid of someone, pick a black street gang in any city...any one will do. These white supremists don't look all that scary to me.

My little seven pound dog doesn't look intimidating either, but the vet found out otherwise after needing to get 17 stitches.

I told him he needed to use a muzzle but he thought like you did and didn't see anything to fret about.

Based on the information given in the article it seems like anyone who hunts or camps can be arrested. Would love to know what information the DOOJ has on them to warrant the arrest.

I am not certain what their intent was but that is certainly an Aryan Nation tat on his neck. I beleive "Blood and Honor" was the inscription on gestapo ceremonial knives as well.

You have to wonder what these people did for a living.

Actually, I believe the inscription was:

              Meine Ehre heißt Treue

              My honor is loyalty.

But I take your point. That tat would keep ME from hiring him!
