Updated at 6:45 p.m. ET: Adam Mayes, the man suspected of killing a Tennessee woman and her daughter and kidnapping her two younger daughters, was investigated in 2010 for child sexual abuse, police records show.

Mayes, 35, shot himself when he was found Thursday night after being on the run with Alexandria Bain, 12, and her sister Kyliyah, 8, for nearly two weeks. The girls' mother, Jo Ann, 35, and older sister, Adrienne, 14, were found dead in the back yard of Mayes' home in New Albany, Miss.
In the police report, obtained by NBC station WMC-TV of Memphis, Tenn., someone reported that Mayes was babysitting a 7-year-old girl when a family member walked in on them in the bathroom. The report said that Mayes and the young girl were naked and that he was shaving her legs.
The complainant also said Mayes had a stash of child pornography in his bedroom. A U.S. Postal Inspection Service investigation found no evidence that Mayes had received child pornography in the mail, and the allegation was ultimately declared unfounded, WMC reported.
After a two-week manhunt, Adam Mayes died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound as a SWAT team closed in on him, allowing authorities to safely recover the two girls he was accused of kidnapping. NBC's Thanh Truong reports.
Mayes claimed that his sister made up the accusations because she was angry at him and his wife, Teresa, for kicking her out of their house a few months previously.

Mayes shot himself in the head as a SWAT team closed in on him Thursday evening. Authorities safely recovered the two younger Bain sisters, who said they had been without food or water for three days, law enforcement officials said at a briefing Friday afternoon. They were returned to their father Friday.

Mayes said nothing before pulling the trigger, they said.
Teresa Mayes was charged this week with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of "especially aggravated kidnapping." Adam Mayes' mother, Mary, was charged with four counts of intent to commit especially aggravated kidnapping.
Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant said there could be more arrests, citing what he said was evidence that Mayes might have had help at some point. Later Friday, authorities told Reuters that four of Mayes' neighbors had also been taken into custody.
Police didn't say how the four people — including a husband and wife and the adult son of the husband — were linked to the case. The couple were arrested for possessing a weapon, and the son had been wanted previously by Mississippi authorities.
In an interview Friday on NBC's TODAY, Josephine Tate, Mayes' mother-in-law, said Mayes had abused her daughter for as long as 11 years.
"I know that she was scared of Adam. I know that she was coerced and manipulated and forced to do the things that she did," Tate told NBC News' Savannah Guthrie.

Tate said Mayes believed the two younger girls were his daughters, even though "they were not his children."
Union County Sheriff Jimmy Edwards confirmed at Friday's briefing that there was no evidence of that.
"I don't know what was going on in his mind, why he was thinking that," Edwards said. "But I don't believe there's any evidence to back that up."

Why couldn't this guy just put the gum to his head and pull the trigger BEFORE any of this happened? What a mess with all these others involved. Did he actually think he was going to get away with it? Actually, it looks as if he couldn't think straight at all, but what about the rest of them? I feel for the dad and his daughters.
Mississippi is a no stop state for me. I gas up in Bama and then pray I don't get a flat or have to stop for anything until I hit Texas. Those people have family trees that run in a straight line, crazy is an understatement.

Um, the man was from Tennessee and it was law enforcement in Mississippi that found him and the girls. Without those hicks from Mississippi I guess those little girls may have died! I get pretty sick of the in-bred southerner jokes. There is evil everywhere. This is a horrible tragedy for this family. Instead of making ignorant stereotypical jokes there seems to me that a little compassion is called for here. And BTW, marrying even distant cousins is very much frowned upon here.

Or possess it, such as printing or downloading. While it wasn't judged to be a constitutional right, it was ruled to be legal as the state statutes now stand. So, it can be fixed, which NY legislators are trying to do. Viewing still violates federal law. And, I believe that the pervert still stands convicted on 132 of 134 state charges of possession---which is a good thing. Plus, state pens are not generally as cushy as federal prisons---another good thing. He also has received a large quantity of publicity which his "mates" undoubtedly already know---a third good thing.

I think the Bain's should have been careful not to allow Adam Mayes to be in their home with their 3 young daughters. My gosh, they let this jerk babysit for them. Red flags everywhere and no one saw them. I just hope he didn't molest any of these girls at any time. People astound me at the careless manner in which they raise their children!!! You can never be too careful.

No smoke without fire....so I'm not surprised a sexual abuse accusation turned up. These sort of guys can be very persuasive,which may explain why this family was taken in by him. When I heard the explanation that he was obsessed with the girls being his.....and looked at his ugly clock...well let's just say I didn't see much of a resemblance.
I have to agree. Whatever he & his wife fought about is not necessarily what he told the Bain's. I learned (after the fact) things about my ex - not sexual, but still reprehensible and deceiptful. Con-artists have perfected their con. HIS neighbors and mother-in-law, not the Bain's, stated this creep called the girls his. Not the girls family, nor their neighbors have stated that - at least not yet, if ever. I have not seen a picture of Mr. Bain, but the girls do not have a facial resemblance what so ever to this wacko.
When I watched this video while I have to agree with other comments here and can't quite wrap my head around the fact that this loon was allowed to babysit. I wouldn't have let him watch a dog let alone children. My heart also goes out to his wife. I was in a situation where I married a control freak. I was so afraid of that man that whenever he raised his voice I peed my pants. It didn't matter where I was. I was terrified of him as he had brutalized me so many times. He threatened that if I left him he would kill me and the children. I had him arrested once and I dropped the charges because he told me if I didn't maybe he couldn't do it himself but he had plenty of people who would do it for him. I believed him. When I did take the children and leave I carried a shotgun with me wherever I went. I never felt safe until some other guy killed him for messing with his wife.
I think her mother hit the nail on the head. I do hope that a full investigation is done to assure that any action is fair to her. It seems she is another victim in this horror story. I have walked a mile in her shoes and I know I would have been terrified of being the third murder if not in compliance.
"Investigated" does not mean "guilty." I could pick up a phone right now, make an anonymous tip, and launch an "investigation" into anyone at any time. I read the original police reports of the alleged child sexual abuse, and you can easily see the redacted name of the "unknown" 7 year old as that of the youngest Bain daughter, Kyliyah, who was identified by Mayes' wife as the little girl who was with him. I really wonder why this perve was allowed to be around these girls in the first place, especially after his sister had already walked in on him naked with the youngest one sometime within the past year. Seems to me the parents are somewhat to blame here for not keeping this creep away from them!

... Police arrested violent sexual predator George Jones for indecent exposure April 21. He was a free man at the time, despite five previous convictions for sex-related crimes since 1994 and 15 arrests in Bonneville County since 1999.
He also has at least three prior unlawful entry convictions, 12 disturbing the peace convictions, one public nuisance conviction, two simple battery convictions and one trespassing conviction, according to the xxxx State Repository. All are misdemeanor crimes.
He has served 12 years, 10 months and three days in XXXX state prisons throughout his life.
Jones' last indecent exposure conviction was in 2002. (There's more behind this, but:)
Even if he's found guilty of all three counts, Jones could be back on the streets in 18 months.

This is what I had thought that Adam was up to. He maybe the father or he created a false reality to use as a cover to rape children. If it was the Bain family that Adam was naked with then the Bain family is stupid because you let a sex criminal into your house again and again. That scumbag would've been in jail a long time ago if his wife reported to police that she was beaten so many times! I could not believe how stupid the wife is and the mother in law to allow the abuse for 11 years. Good riddance, that guy is a devil's advocate.
Mayes was definitely an evil person and it appears most of his life was spent with ill thoughts and worst actions. At least the last two deeds Mayes did and accomplished were proper and correct.

Will Theresa's mother be testifying for the prosecution? I do appreciate her explaining Theresa's motive for helping with murder of Jo Ann. Jealousy over an affair and custody issues (even when they are imagined) make for powerful motives. So it helped me to understand why Theresa helped Adam. Or did she actually kill Jo Ann herself?
