Subscribe to RSSA cardiologist in Mesa, Ariz., has pleaded guilty to 18 counts of aggravated assault after female patients accused him of fondling their breasts, and even rape, during office exams and surgery.
But, as a result of a plea deal, Dr. Richard Lewis will likely face only probation and avoid having to register as a sex offender when he is sentenced on June 14, the news website AzCentral.com reported.
"If we would have required him to register as a sex offender, that's probably a deal breaker," AzCentral quoted Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery as saying.

Why is it that he is only getting probation for this? If he raped his patients, then he should be facing jail time, and DEFINITELY should have to register as an offender.

Maricopa County, it figures. If he wasn't white you can bet he would be going to prison for a very long time and have to register as a sex offender. Since he is a white doctor in THAT county he gets off virtually scott free.
This old fart gets a slap on the wrist.... while some poor kid who just turned 18 gets Sex offender status for for having a girlfriend who is 16. Great Country,,, where lousy Judges can do what they want...

Wake up people! This is America, the justice system is all about money. OJ ducked a murder charge because he had the money, and it didn't hurt that he was famous. This sounds like a COMPLETE MISCARRIAGE OF JUSTICE. The women he victimized are now being victimized all over again, by the 'justice system'. The sad part is that he will CONTINUE to victimize women. What will happen next time he decides to sexually assault a woman? Will there be violence? Sexual assaults usually escalates with each offence. Will he maim someone, murder someone? Maybe it will be the judges niece, daughter, wife, friend, or either of the attorney's family member's. THEN will they take it seriously? Will the offender THEN be registered as a SEX OFFENDER? or will they slap him on the wrist again?
My dad was falsely sent to prison for one rape. His sentence was around 60 years if I remember correctly. After 17 1/2 years in prison he was exonerated based on DNA. This guy PLEADS guilty to 18 counts of sexual assault and rape and gets off with probation and NOT having to register as a sex offender? BULL! This man should be thrown right into prison where he belongs.

This has little to do with Tea Party members or platform. It does have to do with the current Maricopa County administration, as led by Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who is anti-Tea Party.

Just 18 victims??? How many victims did not come forward; how many could not stand the embarrassment, pressure and grilling that goes along with these cases and changed their mind about pressing charges; how many victims were told "not enough evidence" and how long did this go on??? Very little info here on this article.

Because it is in AZ in Jan's Country? I cannot believe what I am reading unless his patients/victims would not testify. This proves once again medical doctors are held above the law and do not abide by the same laws as the majority of the citizens of this country. They desperately need cardiologists in prisons and he would get all the molesting, rape and fondling he would ever want. Boy what was the state's AG thinking about? Totally unbelievable except it is Arizona.
Intellect-- In your assanine remark why didnt you bring up Sheriff Joe while you were at it. What does a GOOD Governor like Jan Brewer have to do with the courts ruling, Sheriff Arpio is doing his job that he is paid to do. Arizona is a great State.

If the judge is worth anything, he will do serious jail time...however I suspect that the judge will turn him lose on society because they play golf together. Think about it...rich cardiologist, district attorney, and judge...of course they socialize together. Their wives are probably all on the same committees and they support the same charities. They will never turn on each other. It's just not done.
Somebody should start a petition to have this scum bag prosecuted. I would do it myself, but I don't know to who's attention it should be made once enough signatures are reached. This is outrageous and sickening. Probation for rape and molestation? He'll get his rightful punishment in the end.
Our justice system is royally inadequate if a horrible sex offender gets to plea out of paying time and not even be registered as a Sex Offender! Women's rights are yet again not being upheld. He should not be allowed to walk the streets and have the rights of law abiding citizens. Hopefully he's completely lost his right to practice medicine and also can't go practice in another country & continue to do these abusive acts.

Where are the fathers or husbands of these women? Dr. Lewis would not be in need of a cell if it was my wife or daughter.

Hopefully this prosecutor will lose his license to practice law and the medical board better revoke this doctors license to practice for life! Even with a deal, the act violates morality clauses which legally says he cannot practice medicine.

A deal breaker? What does it take to have that kind of leverage? Oh yeah, education, degrees, money, expensive lawyers. Don’t get me wrong; I honestly don’t believe that the public registry is an appropriate or effective option for anyone, for a myriad of reasons, but I believe even more strongly that this type of favoritism is beyond wrong. We are used to seeing it for members of law enforcement in similar situations, but now doctors? Who will be next? And in the meantime the ordinary, average guys on the street, some of them children as young as ten, are on the registry for life for horseplay and for looking at nude photos of underage girls and for consensual teenage sex. This cannot be tolerated.
Exactly...a 18 year old high school senior having sex with his 16 year old girl friend & they end up labeled for life. Yet scum like this walks.
I have heard of this before when a Doctor will get away with this, In Petersburg Alaska there was a Dr.
Coon was his name who went to trial and was let go and continued to work as a Dr. for several years more even with the fact he had been molesting girls for his whole Carrer. He even mloested his own son. Also me.
Sorry that that happened to you. He won't go unpunished. He has it coming to him. I understand your situation, and I hope you can find healing from it.
What is going on this world? You can be sure the miserable speciman of a doctor will have a just Judge in the end, and it may be soon. Shall we pray he gets an incurable severe painful disease of the penis, loses both arms in an accident and lives a long life. Oops! That isn't very nice (BUT NEITHER IS HE).
I know it won't change what he's done, but at the very least he should be neutered. That's what should be done with all violent sexual assault offenders.
His license to practice anything should be revoked, permanently.

Beth: Slow down Miss Lady - neutered? I can't subscribe to permanent punishments (like the Death penalty, castration, et al.) in the face of the Innocence Project finding justice for WRONGLY convicted rapists as often as they do.
BTW: I have had an immediate family member raped. They kept this coward azz offender in protective custody until trial, then sentenced him to expulsion back to the Middle East.

A lot of doctors are gross perverts. It seems to be some sort of creepy industry secret. This applies to "normal" community doctors and big-name "respectable" doctors. I don't mean to lump in the few honestly nice doctors like several good guys that I know, but you can thank your colleagues for this reputation. Twice I have encountered lewd behavior and sexual battery to me by a doctor, which has given me bad dreams a couple nights a week forever. One of those doctors was an hispanic internal medicine doctor at the world famous treatment and diagnosis hospital in Jacksonville, Fl, who was also a mean jerk. And since then there have been several thwarted attempts. Since I've gotten wise and toughened up, from now on if there are no female doctors available and I have to see a male doctor, at the reception desk I state that a female nurse or staff member is required to be in the exam room with us the whole time. And in the exam room, clothes stay on, especially those covering private parts, no matter how hard they whine or pout. I'm paying them - so I call the shots! I'm not intimidated by them anymore. You would be surprised at how when they ask you to take your clothes off, and they're leering and grinning like a school boy and starting to breath really fast, when I tell them NO (such as, "the sore that I made this appointment for is on my wrist, so no, you do NOT need to see my naked pubic area") - their demeanor suddenly changes to a mad pouty puppy instead, or in one case enraged disappointed yelling. And also since I've wised up, at one time I had to quickly physically block another doctor who tried to yank my underpants down without warning - and yes, he pouted too right after. Again, these are all normal, "respected" community doctors in my town, who are in excellent standing in the civic and medical community. Parents - DO NOT ALLOW YOUR KIDS, EVEN TEENAGERS, TO BE ALONE AT THE DOCTOR'S OFFICE. DO YOUR DUTY AS CARING PARENTS AND WATCH THEM LIKE A HAWK.

I can't believe this crap. This pervert violated 18 people and he doesn't get jail time or have to register as a sex offender. And that's after he admits his guilt too. WTF. Hey everybody, how 'bout instead of bitching about our screwed up system we ALL contact by letter or email, EVERY ARIZONA POLITICAN and DEMAND THE SCUMBAG SACK OF MEAT be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law!! NO DEALS!!!!! It took a deluge of outrage to get that nut job finally arrested for the killing of that young boy Trevon in Florida. It's a great idea and I'll be one of the first to sign up. But do you REALLY think this will change anything? It's Arizona! They make their own laws and have such little regard for women anyway.
