Still wearing wedding dress, woman stabbed to death in bathtub

Just two days after her wedding, Estrella Carrera, 25, was found stabbed to death in her own bathtub. She was still in the dress she wore at her wedding reception. WMAQ-TV's Lauren Jiggetts reports.

Updated at 6 p.m. ET: When police showed up to Estrella Carrera’s apartment outside Chicago on Sunday, they found her dead in a dry bathtub. She had been stabbed multiple times, and she was still wearing the dress she wore at her wedding reception.

Carrera hadn’t told many people that she was getting married, the Chicago Tribune reported, and the news seemed to surprise her neighbors as well, who had always seen her alone. She was a Spanish interpreter for a social welfare agency and apparently lived alone with her daughter and son, ages 9 and 2.

On Friday, though, Carrera married a 30-year-old man she’d been with, on and off, for three years, according to the Tribune. He was the father of her 2 year old. The Tribune newspaper has not named him because he has not been charged.

That night after the marriage, Carrera called family members, inviting them to join her on a party bus. When she called her cousin Sandy Lopez, she didn’t mention a wedding, perhaps because her cousin didn’t approve of the man Carrera was seeing.

"She didn't want to tell me she had gotten married," Sandy Lopez told the Tribune. "She didn't tell anybody."

"We are following several leads but have not named a suspect at this," Captain Joseph Ford of the Burbank Police Department told msnbc.com. "We will release more info tomorrow."

Carrera was supposed to pick up her children from her father’s house the next day, Saturday, but she never showed up. By 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, her family dispatched police for a well-being check.

"We never thought this would happen; she was a strong woman,” Jaime Lopez, a cousin, told the Tribune. “She loved her kids."

Jason Tokarczyk, a neighbor, told NBC Chicago that he hadn't noticed anything abnormal about Carrera. He described her as quiet.

"I seen her walking to her car, her and her son,” Tokarczyk said. “Hi and bye and that was it. I never ever seen her with a guy since I have been here, and I never seen her walking in and out with a guy at all."

Carrera’s death was ruled a homicide following an autopsy Monday. Police said in a statement Monday that they believe her slaying stems from "a domestic situation." The investigation is ongoing.

Find who did it and hang him by his B__ls and let her family hit him like a Pinata with a baseball bat. That would be justice.

Since some are saying who they think the suspect is, I'll take a "Stab" at it myself. I know for a FACT that the KILLER is responsible for her death!

But we don't stab them because of it. They can't help it, it's the way their mothers raise them.

So you think it was okay because she probably ran her mouth too much?? Do you get stabbed everytime you run your mouth?

The detectives are investigating the online suicide course she was taking. She was on the Hari-kari chapter but it seems she failed the quizes twice.

Did the husband go on his honeymoon by himself...Maybe she had just missed the boat....so he's out on the cruise ship looking for her.

He wanted the insurance settlement, but was too cheap to take her scuba diving. That's why the cops are now baffled. Newlywed, bathtub, multiple stabbings....I'm connecting the dots, but I still can't make out the picture.

Got to hand it to JG-he has been schooled twice by Atticus Rules and keeps on ticking. He is like the Timex watch of responders. TZ’s post was indeed perfectly justifiable. Simply put, and you obviously need it thusly stated, this is a lame article and this is becoming an alarming habit of MSNBC. Obviously, stories evolve as investigations continue. It is not that TZ, Atticus, Bullet or myself don’t want a report until all the facts are in. We simply expect a major player in this media market to offer a more intelligent, well-crafted piece. We all know this was rushed to publication due to the bizarre nature of the crime, but if this is the best MSNBC can do, why bother. Besides, we all know the butler did it.

How ridiculous that these lazy morons masquerading as journalists at MSNBC didn't dig just a little bit in order to obtain a few more facts, such as those pointed out by one of the early posters on here. Also, what is the problem with naming the person who this woman married? It doesn't matter if he is a named suspect or person of interest yet - it is part of the story of a newlywed bride! It is known he is 30 years old, so who did this newlywed bride marry?

Lastly, he obviously can't say he went out to the store and decided to never come back. Unless, perhaps, he got kidnapped or whacked also. . . hmmmmmm

What is the problem with NOT naming him until there's a real need besides your desire to out him ?

I don't get this pholosophy of 'why don't they give us the whole story before they know it' complaining crap.

Is this a by-product of the instant gratification generation?

When they report that a woman is married, there is usually some mention of the husband's name. Like "Her husband, John Smith, was at work when relatives found his wife". Hello? Is that so hard? By NOT naming them, aren't they really saying something?

I feel for her two children. They deserve answers and justice for their Mom. Doesn't sound like this one should be hard to figure out.

I would die to meet someone like her, she seemed nice and is very beautiful. Then some sick'o goes and kills her, this angers me. Why does this go on? I will never be able to wrap my head around things like this.

If she was happy and wanted to be married to the man she loved; then so be it, no matter who approves or doesn't approve. That is not their choice or decision; what they chose to be joined in the eyes of God for is their own choice. Now as for the children, I am so sorry you have to go through this; that hole ripped in their lives will never be filled. God bless you.

This woman had two children out of wedlock? This pretty much explains it all. She was not very good at picking men and finally she picked the murderer who ended her meaningless life. Bread like a dog ,die like a dog.

So now she is a dog!? So having children out of wedlock says what exactly? Do you even know what you wrote? We all make mistakes but your name calling a victim at this time is very unappropriate. I really hope no one ever calls you a low life dog. You don't need to know what you are.

I believe you meant "breed" as dogs can't & don't "bread." Just because she wasn't married doesn't make her a "dog." If anyone is a dog I would say that it is you.

All you people are silly. Re-read the article and if you still don't understand it go back to school. Yes this is news. Does it say the whole story. NO because there isn't enough for the FULL STORY. I actually live 10 mins from there and my wife told me yesterday she knew her but not that close. My opinion, where is the new husband. I did like the "his ex-girlfriend did it". But, if it was someone else where is he right now? Scared of what?

He is involved and knows what happened. And yes I am condemning him. I am judging. Let the family get involved and look for him and if they cant find them they should go to his family and attack their family until he comes forward. Life is becoming a war.
