Illinois police on the hunt for groom of slain bride found in bathtub

Just two days after her wedding, Estrella Carrera, 25, was found stabbed to death in her own bathtub. She was still in the dress she wore at her wedding reception. WMAQ-TV's Lauren Jiggetts reports.

Burbank, Ill., police are on the hunt for the husband of a newlywed woman found stabbed to death in her bathtub over the weekend.

Arnoldo Jimenez, 30, and Estrella Carrera, 26, were married on Friday, just two days before Carerra's body was found by authorities during a search prompted by worried family members.

Jimenez hasn't been seen since, officials said. A Cook County judge issued a warrant for his arrest on Tuesday.

Still wearing wedding dress, woman stabbed to death in bathtub

Following a City Hall wedding ceremony, the newlyweds rented a party limo and celebrated their new union with a group of friends and family, ending the evening at a night club on the north side of Chicago, officials said.

The pair were last seen together at about 4 a.m. Saturday, officials said. Roughly 36 hours later, Carerra's body was found. Officials confirmed she was still wearing her silver-sequined wedding dress.

"It was a very brutal killing," Capt. Joseph Ford of the Burbank Police Department told The Associated Press Tuesday. "We do our jobs every day, of course. But something like this really motivates you to work even harder."

Investigators said there were no signs of forced entry into the bride's apartment.

Jimenez was known to be driving a black, four-door 2006 Maserati with Illinois license plates. According to The Associated Press, he had tried to keep the impending wedding secret from most of Carrera's family.

Carerra called one of her cousins, Sandy Lopez, and invited her to the party but said nothing about a wedding, The Associated Press reported.

"She didn't want to tell me she had gotten married," she said. "She didn't tell anybody besides her father the day before."

The couple had reportedly been dating for two years prior to getting married. Carrera had two children, aged two and nine.

What did the police do wrong????? They weren't there or ever had the boyfriend in custody. Sound like a strange story of love and murder.

The article I read right here on MSNBC, within the last few days, did say they were in contact with the husband - and that he was not considered a suspect.

I think the keystone cops tried to play the old "let him go, and he'll lead us to it" tactic. Looks like it blew up in their face. Surveillance FAIL.

OTOH, a Maserati isn't exactly going to blend into the general populace...

The husband was most likely a drug dealer, pissed off the boss, and so his wife got the ax. Happens all the time in mexico. They are lucky the children were spared.

You cant just arrest someone with out evidence. Even if they did arrest him they would have had to let him go before they started to figure out what happened. Unless you find the person on the scene coverd in blood then you will question him and then once you get evidence you go and arrest him.

Hmmmm, there's a thought. I wonder what he did for a living to be able to afford a Maserati. Maybe that's why the fam didn't approve. Maybe that's why he's missing -either they took him or he's in hiding from cops and drug dealers. I guess we could speculate all day on this one. So sad.

I am glad nothing happened to the children. To all single parents, I know you have your own "desires" but seriously, use your brain and sound judgement before bringing anyone around your children. I know it's hard, but avoid relationships until your children are older. This situation is tragic, but could have been much worse. Thank God it was not.

From what I read the children were his.

    #1.13 - Wed May 16, 2012 2:38 PM EDT

Th article wa sa not very clear on some of the facts or details. Did not say if anything happened to the children or where they are now. I can only hope they are safe and sound. --Did not say if this guy was the father of these children either. In a situation like this the husband/boyfriend is allows the first one the police look at -- and now he is missing. Don't think it was a case of the "police just letting him get away" -since they did not find the body for two days - and he was already gone by that point. They did not say what he did for money to afford such a car == but I am sure we can all come to our own concludes on that. We won't know whatreally happened until they find this guy.

TFNJ, what "it's me" said is totally correct, he wasn't implying the murder took place in mexico but that it is common there, if you'd pay attention to the race of the murdered bride and the spic that killed her you would understand a little better. Now add all this together with the fact he's driving what kind of car ?

    @ PValdes,

I too heard they had questioned him and said he wasn't a suspect. That was stated in the original story here on msnbc. If we knew what race or at least a picture of him we might be able to figure out which direction he may be traveling. I'm getting the idea all is not on the up and up with this story. I believe the news papers and police are trying to keep us from racial profiling which exactly what we need to be doing. Racial profiling doesn't mean we need to pick up ever person or suspect every person of that race but it should set off a bell when you're looking for someone. The idea that racial profiling is even called racial profiling is absurd, there is no such thing that links one race to all be of the same kind of personality. This is what the TV has put in our heads.

Women in the U.S. are so often terrible at picking a good man. Bad boys cheat, lie, and sometimes even kill. This guy didn't look like an MBA or an athlete? What's he doing with a Maserati at 30?

This is the third story of a young woman being killed by their husband in the last 2 days. Women pick better men. Men be better men.

Bet this guy has a record as long as my Arm. Maserati's, some of them are under 10,000. The older Bi-Turbo's are affordable, but it requires a lil maintence from time to time. Isn't a car you want to have to depend on to get you across the country and say into Mexico.

Let us consider two things There are 2 countries that border the US that will not extradite if the death sentence is on the table, Canada and Mexico. Guess anyone ?, Canada is closest to Chicago. Close the borders ? Ya Think. If my wife were stabbed to death I would sure want to stick around and see justice done (even in Chicago) Something smells bad and it is not Herring.

Because they choose douchebags and psychos? Like LL Cool J says, "a man doesn't choose a woman, a woman chooses a man." As far as advice on ladies, you could do worse than LL Cool J.

Also, d-bags and psychos are who get rich. Ladies like money... 2+2=?

By the way, my wife's hot, so take it from a psycho, be one of us! It's pretty sweet! You get hot chicks, Maseratis (well, I drive a BMW), but you get the picture...

I thought women liked douchebags and psychos because they desire men who can't fulfill their needs. And they know that, subconsciously.

Most women believe they'll never be happy and their mate selection is their way of fulfilling that prophecy.

This story did not say anything about who was the father(s) of the children (being she was 26 years old when she was killed and has a 9 year old child -- She was 17 when she had that child) - soI guess this guy was not the father of that one -- Also, this story does not say if the police had spoken to the husband or not. it implies he was gone before the body of the girl was even found.

Bill- she'd been with him for two years. She hid their wedding from her family... which implies they wouldn't have approved. Many of her friends and family didn't like the guy... which tells me that he had shown his true colors before now. It is a sad situation, and maybe it was fear that kept her with him, but it was her mistake to get involved with someone of his caliber in the first place. The only good thing about this situation is that the children weren't with her when it happened. I have a hard time with any mother that would put her own wants above those of her children. She shouldn't have married this guy. Sad for her, but more so for her children.

Even if he didn't do it... his lifestyle most likely contributed to it. He has a suspiciously nice car for someone his age unless he came from money or made it big in business/won the lottery... which would most likely have been part of the story. If he was into selling drugs and got into some trouble, I still blame him.

I can only see one good thing to come out of this: the children were spared from having him as a step-father. Can you imagine what someone with that kind of temper could do to two small children in his custody? It makes you feel kind of sick.

Sounds like someone listened to Alice Cooper's "Roses on White Lace" too much.

A dead wife, missing husband, secret wedding, luxury car. Anyone else think this sounds like an episode of "Weeds"? This totally sounds drug related.

The fact that he's 30 and driving a maserati doesn't stand out to anyone as being odd?? Hmmm.... involved in drugs somehow? I think YES!!!!

I would tend to agree with you considering the Chicago Tribune reported that she had 2 cars and neither were parked in the driveway. The 2 year old boy belongs to the new husband. The boy and the girl were not picked up from the baby sitter and there was also no report of the police talking to the husband. They are looking for him to talk to him, at this point he is not a suspect. Something really stinks here. Why would he kill his new bride and not take his son, why all the secrecy of the wedding? A lot of unanswered questions in this puzzle!

there are definitely a lot of strange details about this story. i wouldn't be surprised if there was a lot more than what meets the eye here

I would say this guy is in Sunny Mexico right about now. And it is very very hard to get them back to the U.S. from Mexico because the Mexican government doesn't want anything bad to happen to their people, no matter what they do here.

The story did not suggest that this guy was a "illegal mexican" -How are you folks coming to that concludion? A 30 year old guy with a car like that might very well be invlived in drig dealing -- but that was not presneted as a fact either. If the police know what they are doing @ all -- they will talk to everybody who attended that night club party -- ASAP.

                      That's a pretty dubious assumption.

Sounds like events at the night club might provide a motive which means that everyone in attendance, including all of their friends, are going to be witnesses. I'm guessing alcohol was involved, flirting and jealousy.

Without knowing these people personally, there are just too many details left out to really know what happened or who was involved. About as vague as it gets.

Ladies, don't put on blinders just because a man mentions the "M" word (marriage). If he wants to get married, but doesn't want your family/friends to know, that is a BIG RED FLAG! Don't ignore it! If there are major problems while dating - there will be bigger and major problems once married. Have your own mind, but take into serious consideration the opinions of those that love and care about you. Sometimes they see things that you can't see through your "love shades"!

IF he did this, I hope they fry him til he's crispy.

How do women end up with such worthless life guys? I am amazed how so many really nice women go for the "bad boy" type, @!$%# happens, and people wonder why. See it all the time. Women I know think it is fun to hang with some piece of shiit as it is "risky". I feel bad for her, but she had to know this guy was not an upstanding, great guy. Not saying she deserved this in any way, but bad decisions usually have bad consequences.

I agree. I think sometimes women think the bad boy is tougher and can keep her safer. Not always, especially if he turns on you like a pitbull.

I agree too. Don't want to speak badly about the poor girl --No one deserves this -- but this kind of thing happans way too often.

I'd rather be in Mexico than Crown Point, too!
