Cell phone of slain bride's husband tracked to Texas

Burbank Police Department via AP

This undated photo, released May 15, 2012, by the Burbank Police department, shows Arnoldo Jimenez.

The FBI has tracked the cell phone of a Burbank, Ill., man suspected of killing his new bride to the Texas-Mexico border.

A federal warrant was issued Thursday for the arrest of 30-year-old Arnoldo Jimenez.

Jimenez was born in Texas and owns property in Pharr, Texas, according to a federal criminal complaint and attached affidavit. He has relatives in North Carolina, and his parents live in Mexico.

Estrella Carrera was still in her wedding dress when she was found stabbed to death in the bathtub of her apartment on Sunday, two days after the pair were married in a City Hall ceremony, officials said. Jimenez disappeared.

Law enforcement said they tracked his cell phone from the Chicago area to an area near Memphis, Tenn., through Arkansas, to Houston, Texas, and finally to Hidalgo, Texas, at 10:45 p.m. on Monday.

His sister told police Jimenez called her and said he and Carrera had a bad fight and he left her bleeding, the affidavit said. Authorities said the couple were last seen at about 4 a.m. Saturday following a post-wedding celebration at a Chicago nightclub.

Jimenez told another close associate that he was leaving Illinois and the associate should tell police he has fled to Mexico.

Carrera, 26, is the mother of two children. Jimenez is the father of the youngest, a 2-year-old boy, the victim's family said.

Jimenez, according to officials, was last known to be driving a black, four-door 2006 Maserati with Illinois license plates.

Just two days after her wedding, Estrella Carrera, 25, was found stabbed to death in her own bathtub. She was still in the dress she wore at her wedding reception. WMAQ-TV's Lauren Jiggetts reports.

I am so sure there is more to this story than provided by the media.

  • Pharr, Texas is CLOSE to the Mexican border.
  • Parents live in Mexico.
  • Owns a Masaratti with ILLINOIS tags which Main Street Jane/Joe Doe cannot afford.

This guy certainly isn't too bright....either that, or he doesn't watch much TV. He should know that you can be tracked through your cell phone calls. He'll get caught because he's not smart enough to get away!

Can we say Le eMe Captain and drug smuggler? Of course we can. Oh, I'm sure there is some kind of legit form of income, (financed by drug money)there always is, any criminal with half a brain has a legit cover up illegal income, (See Congress and Senate). What do you bet they find drugs or a tunnel to the border on his place in Texas. There's a lot more to this than is being said. You can believe that. I wonder if Eric Holder will order the charges on this douche bag dropped? Sighting him as a fast and furious material witness. Stranger things have happened in D.C.

Many of the Drug Dealer/Terrorists called ZETAS are actually US Citizens who have regular lower end jobs here in the US. They have "reasons" to visit Mexico now and then as a cover up to their family and friends. These ppl make about 80k to 100k a year traveling back and forth with narcotics or to kill specific ppl. Again this is all supposed to be secret. Now and then you have a dummy who just cant hold back in purchasing and exotic car, and once intoxicated and violent things get out of hand and ends up hurting hiw own family, and does what he gets paid to do. Kill.

Another murder by a damn anchor baby. When is it going to stop? Answer: Never. In the next 100 years Latins, mostly made up of people originally from Mexico will be the majority of our population in the US. Then they will take over the government. Then the US will become more like Mexico. I feel sorry for our descendents. America will NEVER be the same.

Don't get me wrong, many Latin people are fine, hard working people. Much better than some people that currently live here. But, there is a huge percentage that aren't so good, and that is a problem. Case in point, the guy in this story.

Landslide victory!!

BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

45% tie in the polls

I could be mistaken, but I believe most polls have them neck and neck, or within the statistical margin of error.

And has been that way for the past month.

Because we all know the President's job approval has just been stellar, don't we.

Why how much more indicative of a pending landslide can it be.

You know whats funny, let's imagine for a moment he does win, and does so the same as last time (in others words win by 3%), and takes it as a mandate. I mean what can go wrong.

It isn't like the 2010 elections (where Democrats lost 63 House seats, 6 Senate seats, 680 State legislature seats, and 6 Gubernatorial positions) could have been a referendum on misinterpreting "mandates from the people".

The election has months to go.. We'll see what happens as we get just a bit closer to November.

Because we all know the President's job approval has just been stellar, don't we.

Yep.. the GOP mantra of cut corporate taxes has created TONS of new jobs hasn't it? Hmm.. Corporations are back to their pre recession profits but where are the jobs? Seems to me, the GOP promise of lower taxes has NOT created jobs either... Unless you offshore jobs to another country. You know it was the GOP congress that approved tax credits to American Corporations that move jobs overseas right????

The election has months to go

So you agree then that TFNJ was jumping the gun a bit with his prediction of a landslide, especially with the current evidence not exactly supporting his prediction.

        the GOP mantra of....

And the deflection starts. Weren't we talking about the President's job approval rating. Oh yeah, 47% or so. If you want to talk about Congress's by all means go ahead.

Didn't former President BUSH lose the popular vote in 2004, won the electoral college vote, but claimed a mandate???

And what happened in 2008 again? Didn't the Obama campaign help paint McCain as Bush part III? So basically part of the 2008 election may have been due to a misinterpreted mandate. Just like 2010. Not very insightful of the Democrats to not see that one coming then.

Thank you for helping support my argument.

My how the brainwashed on all sides turn an article about a murderous Mexican douche bag, likely a member of Le eMe, into a political debate. Now, let me drop a little knowledge into this. I doubt any of you partisan hacks will understand let alone agree, but here goes. What part of ALL Dirty, ALL the time can't you people understand? Politicians, party notwithstanding, are all the same. they tell the ignorant what they want to here to get elected. Once this occurs, they do everything they said they would do, all of which is to improve their own finances. Listen carefully to what they say. The president of these United States, called on an end to member of both houses involvement in insider trading in his last State of the Union speech, did any of you catch that? No? What a surprise. Remember the "bonus checks" all you 99%er's were so up in arms about to all those share holders and board members. Guess what governmental offices most hold. That's right, Congressmen and Senators.

If you wish to find were you favorite politico's loyalties truly lie, check their portfolios. It's all about money and power and hanging onto it. They don't care about you or the country, they care about how much money they can stuff in their pockets. Why do you think they are ALL heavily invested in oil, insurance, banking and other financial pursuits. Take the four political persuasions, Democrat, Independent, Republican, and Tea party. Now, use it to form and acronym, D.I.R.T.,,,, Dirt, I'd say that sums them up pretty well.

Now, all you brainwashed Brahmin on all sides, let fly the insults, say it isn't so. I don't care, Having voted for Kennedy, I've watched the political crime show far longer than most of you. I know there is not an honest person in D.C. If you live long enough, you will come to know the truth of this. In the mean time, enjoy the bliss that comes from ignorance.

You never know, maybe he gave his cell phone to someone else so they could use it to throw the cops off of his tracks, they could then dump the cell phone wherever. He's probably not that smart though......

You ever notice that Mexico is so bad, that all the bugs are fleeing for their lives across the border... but as soon as they do something that involves going to jail for or prison, they always run back to that border... that suddenly, Mexico isn't all that bad after all...?

Could it be because the police over there are so entrenched in that war on drugs they have no time a little thing like a wife killing? Hell, who has time for a single murder when you just found 50 bodies on the road?

People talking about voting or politics please who cares. When the kids grow up they will know that their father killed their mother.

As a Texan that grew up with Mexicans it is a well know fact that they like knives and will stab you in the heat of an argument. They are for most part extremely jealous and very hot tempered. I have seen it many times over the 65 years in Tx. They are usually cowards unless in groups. They are commonly taking knives to gun fights....LOL. Lot are hard working good people but in Tx we are over run with illegals just like Az. , it is becoming a financially drain on local schools, hospitals and welfare programs. Most likely this guy is long gone in Mexico...that is the common thing with Mexican criminals, they all flee to home country.

We can only hope they catch up with him before he makes it across the border. If he get into Mexico --it will not be so easy to get him back. My question is why it took two days to even start looking for him? And why the sisters of both he and the dead bride did not do something as soon as they spoke to him ("we had a bad fight.."left her bleeding") From what I have read, no one called the police or checked on the girl for two days! Why?

If he was tracked to Hidalgo, TX, on Monday PM, he has had over 3 days to drive or walk a few feet across the international bridge into Mexico. Was the person caring for her small children not expecting a call-in from mom?

"Jimenez was born in Texas and owns property in Pharr, Texas, according to a federal criminal complaint and attached affidavit. He has relatives in North Carolina, and his parents live in Mexico"

Translation: His parents were illegals who came into Texas to get free healthcare. Jimenez could then grow up in Texas, buy property, associate with other "relatives in North Carolina" who may or may not have established themselves as U.S. citizens the same way he did and went on to kill this woman. Quite an accomplishment...but at least he helped bolster the voting block for the Democratic Party.

That is because black on black crime, or mexican on mexican crime is not considered newsworthy normally. In point of fact, most white crime seems to be domestic (husband/wife), while black crime and mexican crime seems to be gang and drug related, and there is actually far more of that. it is the domestic crime that makes the news.

And i would say that --if he was Chinese and China was just south of Dallas -- Once this guy gets into a country that he can hid in -- it will be very hard to get him and have justice served.

It is not all about you and how you feel wronged by racism. Hey Marvin, you must not talk to too many white people do you? This article is about a man on the run after he murdered his wife, not how poor Marvin and IslandGirl are affected by racism which, I would venture to say, Marvin practices himself!

Thinking the same thing - murdering one's spouse does not have any bearing on race, political views or anything other than that this guy is a sick b*****d. He could be as white as white or yellow or green, fact is that he killed his wife, and left her children without a mother. Hope he is found soon and whatever is done is final for him. He does not deserve a trial by a jury of his peers.

but once he is in Mexico, he is protected from the death penalty, as Mexico will not extradite if that option is on the table. With the current violence in Mexico, the Mexican authorities probably will not even bother looking for him, so if he has the ability to survive in Mexico, he is home free.

Does Illinois even have the death penalty? Everyone keeps talking about Texas (where we would definitely fry his ass, regardless of his skin color) but he was living in Illinois and that is where the crime took place. I only ask because today I'm too lazy to look it up, where normally I would.

Don't think the state of Illinois currently has the death penalty. Even if they caught him @ the border in Texas they would still have to send him back for trial.

That is an excellent point. He could be trying to "threw the cops off his trail" -- Don't know if he would be that clever -- (we can hope he is not).

Governor Ryan put a moratorium on the death penalty before he went to prison.
Now his succesor governor Blago is in prison.
If you ask me, our current governor belongs there too.
                                    Slightly off-topic, just my opinion.

I should feel offended that you essentially called my worthiness equivalent to that of a bug… yet I’m not because that’s the way life works here in the U.S. when you’re Mexican. So I’m used to it. But it saddens me that I have to be used to it. People like you that over generalize and stereotype must overlook a lot of people and things in life. And that’s why I feel sorry for you instead and not for me.

I'm going to first off agree with you. But I want to point something out that I have been observing for too long. In discussions in news stories where a Mexican person is involved, I've seen some Mexican Americans take the side of the racist ranter and agree with the statements like "they need to get out", etc. I once asked a Mexican American here why he would encourage such talk, since it over all made things more difficult for ALL mexicans, sinse racists don't stop to look at documentation before spouting. I couldn't convince him to remember his heritage and stop encouraging anti-Mexican racism. He felt he was American now, and that meant bashing Mexicans was ok.

As an example, I am a Puerto Rican from NY. Want to know why you don't find the same rants here? Because it would be ass whoopin time. Mexicans Americans need to start defending the raza, long after they have left Mexico. Otherwise this will continue. There is NO reason for you or anyone to believe that its just the way life works here.

Agree with you here. When in fact the census just showed that there are more babies being born in the US that are not "white", yet the discrimination of non-whites continues and anything that these non-white people do jump into the headlines and top the list of crimes in the US. I do not feel that this is justification of a crime or criminal. Just that it makes the news more and more, yet the "white" population is as inclined to murder and other crimes, but just not as notable as others due to their skin color.

Of course. All criminals need to be punished. But all I know about this guy is that he possibly commited a crime. I know nothing about his citizenship. Yet that does not stop the racist comments. And as I point out above, part of that is because some people feel its ok to bash Mexicans. The threat of immigration hanging over their heads has made them feel American life should be filled with hate and racism.

Many criminals have escaped to Mexico in the past. But since this guy happens to be Mexican by heritage, he can't do so without racist bashing. As I said though, this sort of behavior only happens in certain parts of the country.

Maybe its time you accepted that there is nothing you can do about it. Hispanics are here to stay, regardless of how many times you rant about it. Your question is moot. I'm here all over Newsvine, you have plenty of Hispanic neighbors, and your kids will date a Hispanic. "baby daddy" will be spoken closer to you than you want..

I have no problem with that at all. Do you really think I'm ranting? I just asked a rhetorical question. I live in Texas -- I'm surrounded by all nationalities so why would I have a problem with any ethnic group? I work with people who come from all over the world. My "kids" have friends from all nationalities and ethnic groups. My "kids" have dated Hispanics and Muslims. What makes you think I have a problem with Hispanics? My PROBLEM is that I don't like women popping out kids that they can't take care of. And before you jump my case--my daughter is probably in the minority of her white friends that hasn't had at least one child out of wedlock that the government is providing care for.

No, but I had to test where you were "coming from". There is a big difference between living in Texas and living in New York, as far as being surrounded by different nationalities. You see a Hispanic and think Mexican. Just like a person in Miami sees a Hispanic and thinks Cuban. But in NY, its a grand melting pot.

You say your problem is that you have a problem with women popping out kids they can't take care of, but your questing in 25.4 points to a deeper view of certain races. It goes against this last "accepting and caring" post you just made.

TFNJ What you say sounds good in theory. However, the situation is a little different for you. Puerto Ricans are US citizens already. People who come here without documentation are not and don't care to be. I admit there are many hard-working people from Mexico that come here and never have any problems. And I think that often the message of enforcing immigration laws gets lost in the racial bigotry that inevitably raises it's ugly head. Many of us that support enforcing immigration laws are not concerned with preventing immigration. We just want to know who is in our country and for what reason. However, the criminals get lost in the crowds of hard-working migrant workers and domestic help. If we enforce documentation requirements, we'll know who the migrant worker and the cleaning ladies are. Everyone else is suspect. (I know, before any comments on my choice of words, that many immigrants are skilled workers, heavy equipment operators, boiler makers, carpenters, etc. The choice of occupations is not intended as a slight.)

Texas Lady, I stopped reading your post after your first line, just for a second, because I want to make a point. My citizen status is NOT why I am an understanding or caring person. If what you are implying is true, then you must also see no reason for others here to use racist remarks. This person, or killer is you want, is an American. Regardless of people assuming his parents MUST have come here illegally, that doesn't make it true. We know nothing of them. So why bash without fact? Isn't that the definition of ignorance? I'm not defending this man, but I'm going against ignorant assumptions. Nothatyoucare's post above disturbs me greatly. That she feels this is what America is. A hate filled country that looks down their nose at everyone trying to better their lives. I don't see that here where I am. And as I said above, there is a reason for that.

Ok, now I will read the rest.

Ok, nothing else made me rant.. lol. I agree, and while I don't follow immigration laws enough to know what flaws there are in the system, I'm sure some either take advantage of them, or sneak in to the country. But why are immigrants who legally came in to this country, or were born here but are of Mexican descent, obligated to listen to people bashing Mexicans, or Hispanics, or even immigrants in general? They shouldn't. They deserve my respect as much as I deserve theirs.

I've asked some about that in the past and they tell me that they resent the people who take advantage of the open border. They went about it the right way and they don't like being grouped in with people who just think they can walk into this country and take what they want. I dated a "hispanic" (actually native american Indian from south Texas) and his family had been here for generations (long before the first missionary ever came to Texas). They were educated, hard working people. They didn't like being lumped in with 'peasants and criminals' as they called it. (Their words, not mine.) It would seem that each person has their own reasons for doing that. I understand your objections. However, my objection is a little broader than yours. Why should anyone bash anyone for being a different race, religion, etc? Racism will never truly go away until we can defend any other person just as vehemently as you defend other Puerto Ricans.

                                                            #25.15 - Fri May 18, 2012 2:59 PM EDT

Hispanic doesn't make me automatically think Mexican. Texas is a grand melting pot too--NY doesn't have exclusive rights on that.

I understand. But its not the authorities that make them feel uncomfortable because others have come into the country illegally. Its their neighbors and their community. Its people just like here making assumptions. That is what needs changing. The authorities need to fix the issue, without involving American citizens. If it was easy, it would be fixed by now.

And just so you know, I will defend a White or Black or Asian person just as vehemently. Its just that since this story involves a person of Mexican descent, my being Hispanic was relevant.

Hmm, his phone was tracked, he told a friend he was going to Mexico; both excellent ways to mislead authorities. Get away with murder 101...leave a false trail. Just because he owns a Maserati does not make him a criminal. Perhaps he is one very savvy business man. If so, he is probably leaving a text book fake trail. If not, and he is really that stupid, I will enjoy watching his stupid, wife murdering behind get caught. Too bad he didn't commit this horrendous crime in Texas. Texas don't play around with the death penalty, it's snap and zapp. Heck, a report released this very week said they executed the wrong man. Maybe they will get him for border crossing and Texas will get a crack at him, improbable, but a girl can hope.
